Calcutta Medical College was founded way in 1835 and is the first medical college in Asia. The institution has just celebrated its 175 anniversary.

Gandhi Medical College came into being on 14th September 1954 AD. This was the second medical college in the erstwhile state of Hyderabad.

The R.G.Kar Medical College & Hospital was started in 1886 by Dr Radha Gobinda Kar, who had just returned from UK as the Calcutta Medical School. It later merged with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bengal and the Belgachia Medical College came into being in 1916. After the death of Dr RG Kar, the college was renamed after him.

Aligarh Muslim University\’s Faculty of Medicine has two colleges under it: the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and the Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College.

The College and hospital, locally known as Sion Hospital, is a general municipal hospital situated in Sion, a suburb of Mumbai. It was started in 1947 with 10 beds initially, which has now grown into multi-speciality hospital with more than 1,200 beds.

The Government Medical College, Chandigarh was started during the year 1991.

The objective of the institution is to have the facility raised and developed to a level comparable to any major medical establishment in advanced countries. On April 1, 1997, it signed an inter-institutional alliance with Harvard Medical International, USA.

The college is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh IP University, Delhi. From 2008 onwards, the post-graduate courses are also affiliated to GGSIP University
