Started in 1946, the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore, is one of the oldest private engineering colleges of the country.

National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, was established in 1960. In 2003, the institute acquired its National Institute of Technology status with deemed to be University and attained full autonomy in its Academics. The Institute is situated at the banks of the Dal Lake, with the Hazratbal Shrine on the other side of the campus.

Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology was established in 1987 as Regional Engineering College. In 2002, it became National Institute of Technology (Deemed University).

The University College of Engineering (UCE) was established in 1929, 11 years after the formation of Osmania University. It was the 6th Engineering College to be established in British India. The College moved to its present permanent building in 1947. Today it is the biggest among the campus colleges of Osmania University. The College was made autonomous in 1994.

Harcourt Butler Technical University Kanpur was established in 2016.

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, also referred to as NIT, Nagpur, is one of the first six Regional Engineering Colleges established under the scheme sponsored by the Government of India and the Maharashtra State Government. The college was established in June 1960.

NIT, Rourkela, formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, is one of the premier national-level institutions for technical education in the country and is funded by the Government of India.

Established in 1854, the College of Engineering, Pune, is now an autonomous engineering college with permanent affiliation to the University of Pune.

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, is an autonomous university. It was founded in July 1960 as a joint venture between the Government of Karnataka and the Government of India, under the name Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), Surathkal. Today, it is one of 18 National Institutes of Technology in India.

Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College was established in 1961 as a joint enterprise of the Central Government and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),
Government of India, to expand the reach and enhance the quality of technical education in the country. At
present, the institute offers Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) programme in the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering,Civil
Engineering,Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Indian Institute of Technology, Indore, was set up in 2009. The institution started functioning from 2009-10 in a temporary campus at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University under mentorship of IIT Bombay.
