your vote matter?

What is voting? Why is it important?The very first thought which comes to our mind when we think about voting is ‘democracy’. So before understanding voting and its importance, we first need to know about the supportive pillar that provides the right to vote which is democracy. So, Democracy is a form of government in which the people have the authority to deliberate and decide legislation or to choose governing official.

The notion of democracy has evolved over time considerably. The original form of democracy was a direct democracy. The most common form of democracy today is a representative democracy, where the people elect government officials to govern on their behalf such as in a parliamentary or presidential democracy.Democratic principles are reflected in all eligible citizens being equal before the law and having equal access to legislative processes.The term “democracy” is sometimes used as shorthand for liberal democracy, which is a variant of representative democracy that may include elements such as political pluralism; equality before the law; the right to petition elected officials for redress of grievances; due process; civil liberties; human rights; and elements of civil society outside the government.

The present form of democracy is mostly representative democracy , where people elect the government on their behalf to govern the country. So the question arises that how the people select their representatives ?There lies a very simple answer to it e.g. Through voting. The very fundamental principle of democracy is that everyone is equal before the law and has equal rights. So, every vote has equal weight in a democracy. The vote of an ordinary citizen is as important as a vote of the prime minister or the president of the country. The term “democracy” is sometimes used as shorthand for liberal democracy, which is a variant of representative democracy that may include elements such as political pluralism; equality before the law; the right to petition elected officials for redress of grievances; due process; civil liberties; human rights; and elements of civil society outside the government.

Elections aren’t just about who’s in office. They’re about which policies are put in place and where money is spent. Decisions are made every day around issues such as healthcare, education, fair wages, the environment, taxes, housing, and public safety. When people choose not to vote, they’re giving their voice and power to someone else. A majority vote is a formal expression of an individual’s choice for or against some motion (for example, a proposed resolution); for or against some ballot question; or for a certain candidate, selection of candidates, or political party. A preferential vote may allow the voter and/or elected representative to cast one, some or many preferences. In elections, many countries use a secret ballot, a practice to prevent voters from being intimidated and to protect their political privacy.

There has always been a dilemma in society about voting and the most frequent one is that “Does voting matter?”. Voting is the fundamental basis of democracy. Instead of taking it as a burden , rather we should seek it as our responsibility because the purest truth of democracy is that ” every vote matters”. Everyone’s vote is counted and there have been several instances in the past where a single vote became a game changer. Besides, there also lies several dimensions of voting processes. In a democracy the voting system not only gives us the right to vote but it can also act as a weapon of protest. So , voting is a highly effective method to have the change that we want in the government. you have the power to decide on the quality of life you want for yourself and future generations. We may be happy with our present situation but there are several things that require the support from the society and the people. Voting is the way to express commitment to ourselves ,one another and to the whole country. For a well developed society we have to choose those people who want to work for the development of society and people. So for a smart society we need smart people and for those smart people we need to vote first so that they can be selected. We are the ones who define our present and future through our votes by choosing the right candidate.

One should take pride in the right to vote and make proper use of the most coveted right, which is the right to vote. Voting is not something that affects the lives of one or two persons, rather it has a huge impact on millions of people and even the entire country. So voting is the duty of every citizen as it matters to us and it is also a way of showing patriotism and respect towards the country.

Gender inequality

Gender inequality is the social process by which Mens, LGBTQ community and womens are not treated equally.

Gender equality is a human fight not a female fight.

Due to patriarchy many girls are hold back from striving for their dreams, receiving a quality education, medical facilities and overall awareness for their well being.

Everyday girls and boys see gender inequality in their homes, community, in textbooks, in media and among the adult.

Society assume an unequal responsibility for household work with mothers bearing the brunt of caregiving.

In schools, many girls receive less support than boys to pursue the studies they choose.

Rashida khatun says I realised the harm I would be causing myself if I agreed to get married. She in is enrolled in UNICEF supported program that provides out of school girls with basic numeracy, literacy and life skills.

Whenever we talk about gender inequality we always seems to focus on women but have anyone ever thought that what it’s like for men or LGBTQ community.

Gender equality, historically has been predominantly a women’s movement for women but I think the impact of gender inequality and how its affecting man hasn’t really been addressed.

  • Generally we see in our families that boys told to pursue maths in higher studies and girls were told to pursue Biology so that the male became engineer for female can be a doctor.
  • Whenever a boy wants to be a cook, singer, dancer he is being discouraged by society or his parent by saying that these are for girls.
  • It’s a perception in our patriarchal society that boys do not cry that the crime is only for girls.
    • Mens are stronger than women and they will never bow in front of anyone
    • That’s why mens will never admit their faults because they are meant to be dominant in this patriarchal society.
  • When a girl wanted to be an officer then she is being discouraged by the family by saying that this is the job for Boys.
  • The perception of our societies that the household works are made for womens .
  • If people see a girl with short hair, the peoples in society tends to point at her and think of her as a freak.
  • If a girl is not interested in cooking but she still has to do it and she is pressurized by the family and Society by saying that you have to go to someone’s home and you have to do it because it is made for you.

Let’s talk about LGBTQ community. It is is the second of three issues focused on social inequalities.

  • LGBTQ community faces gender inequality in their everyday life.
  • They face inequalities in employment, education, health, survival and political empowerment.
  • It is not the only way by which they faces social inequalities.
  • Lgbtq people faces housing discrimination and workplace discrimination.
  • They faces basic human right such as – marriage and family adoption.
  • They have been discarded from their homes at their birth. The only reason of this is that they are not a male or female.
  • Peoples doesn’t behave properly with them.

Is this what we called Gender Equality??

We blame society for gender inequalities and for everything but why we forget that society is because of us. we are the part of society and to change this society we have to change our own mentality.

HUMANITY

Humanity is defined as the quality of being human; the unique nature of man that distinguishes him from other beings. Being human does not imply that one has humanity. If you want to know how human a person is, look at what he does for others who don’t return the favour. Mother Teresa has beautifully portrayed one of the most extraordinary examples of extra-ordinary humanity in a human being. When and whenever possible, humanity entails caring for and assisting others. 

Humanity entails putting other’s needs before your own, and putting others’ needs ahead of your own when they want assistance. Humanity entails expressing unconditional love to all living things on the planet. The following anecdote serves as an excellent illustration of humanity.

Importance of Humanity:

As humanity progresses towards the future, the true essence of humanity is increasingly distorted. It is critical to remember that actions of humanity must not be motivated by selfish benefit such as celebrity, money, or power. Borders divide the world we live in today, but our reach is infinite. We are fortunate in that we have the ability to travel wherever we choose and experience whatever we desire. Countless nations struggle incessantly over territory, resulting in the deaths of many innocent people.

Similarly, other humanitarian crises such as those in Yemen, Syria, Myanmar, and others have claimed the lives of millions of people. Because the situation is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, humanity is required. Most importantly, humanity is concerned not only with humans but also with the environment and all living things. We must all band together to display true humanity and aid in the healing and prosperity of other humans, animals, and the environment.

Instead of fighting about democracy in other nations, we should ask ourselves if we have a voice in our own. Because power corrupts even the most strong-willed, we should exercise our right to vote and enhance the government’s procedures. Stop photographing flora and animals to show your friends and relatives. Look at the trees, animals, and natural beauty with your real eyes, not through the lens of a camera. Bring your friends and family to see the breathtaking beauties that surround us and share this beauty with them.

While technology and democracy have given us the ability to accelerate the pace of change in our society, they have also corrupted us. It has given us a sense of unlimited power and knowledge, making us feel as if we are Gods. No, we aren’t gods, and we have no power over other people’s lives. Only that right is theirs. However, we can and must alter ourselves by making informed selections, making the best life choices, and not allowing others to make our decisions for us.

The narrative of a king is an excellent illustration of mankind. When a dove and an eagle were fighting, a kind-hearted king witnessed it. He could communicate with birds and other animals. The pigeon requested the king’s assistance in escaping the eagle’s clutches. The king promised the eagle that in exchange for saving the pigeon, he would pay any price. The eagle requests from the monarch that he be given the same amount of flesh as the pigeon. The king agrees to the Eagle’s condition and begins hacking off his own flesh in proportion to the pigeon’s meat. He finds the pigeon heavier even after donating a small amount of his flesh. Finally, he gives the Eagle his entire being to consume. The Eagle and the Pigeon both transform into angels at that point, appearing on the ground to test the king’s humanity. 

For his deeds of humanity, the monarch has now been awarded with the most beautiful prizes and afterlife heaven. This narrative can be interpreted as an overblown statement intended to make people realise the importance of humanity in their daily lives. One crucial truth to remember is that “an individual’s life is measured not by the number of degrees he or she holds, but by the degree of humanitarian actions that one engages in on a daily basis.”

A God Who Hates Women : DR. MAJID RAFIZADEH

I had chosen to write about Dr. Majid Rafizadeh’s phenomenal novel  ‘  A God Who Hates Women’. It is a beautiful yet tragically moving story of a women caught in a patriarchal household. It takes us back to the times when women were seen as commodities sold off in markets. Choice was a word that women could not even imagine.

The story highlights the life of the authors mother, how she lived through oppression. This story forms around the background of a civil war. The novels throw light on the cruelties faced by  women in a patriarchal society. The story begins with a short background of how the authors grandmother was born. It later shows the birth of the authors mother which turned out to be a disgrace for her own mother, since she expected a baby boy. The story continues with the atrocities faced by his mother at her own home and how she was forcefully married to a man who abused her at all chances he got.  The story speaks mostly about the struggles faced by the authors mother in her journey. It shows the cruel side of patriarchy, how women carry it down more than men.

The book is set in the backdrop of a series of political tension in Syria and Iran. The author and his family have moved from Syria to Iran a couple of times and the book shows the difference in the culture in both the countries vividly. The book shows how much political leaders are influenced by religion and how they kill people cruelly who goes against them, the authors father was one such victim. Maybe the author might have also got the influence from his father, but in a much better way. The author was the founder of an organization on human rights which reported cases of human cruelty. The authors father has a very interesting character, he on one side focuses on how modern our thinking should be in various aspects of life except in the equal treatment of women. His character was rather paradoxical.

The name of the book also seems to bring out the story, about how the religion and its god were cruel to women. The people of the religion went to extreme ends to make sure that the rules of the religion are followed, sometimes inhumane practices were also used.

But one of the most important thing that the book has left out is that it hasn’t brought into consideration the larger issues faced by the people. The author has merely had an interview with the close members of his family and friends. And so we cannot really say that the book speaks about the whole of Syria. After certain parts of time in the book, it fails to show the feelings of Amira, the authors mother. How she felt about religion, her passion and how she lied to herself to live for her children. The authors life has been glossed over for most parts and it talks in the perspective of the author while the book was about his mother. More focus should have been given to her as well as the political conditions too.
