Black hole – The basics

A black hole is not really an empty hole or space. Black holes are points in space that are so dense they create deep gravity sinks.

It is formed by a death of a massive star. A black hole takes up zero space but does have mass, that used to be a star. And black holes get more massive as they consume matter near them.

There’s a boundary at the edge of a black hole called the event horizon, which is the point of no return — any light or matter that crosses that boundary is sucked into the black hole. It would need to travel faster than the speed of light to escape, which is impossible.

Event Horizon and Singularity

When a massive star (more than 8 times bigger than Sun) runs out of nuclear fuel in its core hen it’s gravity causes the core to collapse upon itself. This huge weight of its constituent matter falling in compresses the dying star to a point of zero volume and infinite density– called the singularity.

A black hole cannot be observed but only detected by the effects of its enormous gravitational fields on nearby matter.

In April 2019, the scientists at the Event Horizon Telescope project released the first-ever image of a black hole.

Supermassive black holes are found at the centre of most galaxies, including our own Milky Way. The one in our galaxy is called Sagittarius A*.

Interesting Facts-

If our Sun were suddenly replaced by a black hole with Mass equal to that of sun, the orbits of the planets wouldn’t change.

If you travelled close to the black hole, you could escape, as long as you don’t enter the event horizon.

If you entered the black hole, you could still see everything outside, since light can enter a black hole.

You wouldn’t notice anything special about the event horizon, since it isn’t a solid surface.

Once you enter the event horizon, you will pulled into the singularity.

Should more money be spent on space exploration?

Poverty still rising all over the world, COVID-19 pandemic made it even worse. About 1.89 billion people, or nearly 36% of the world’s population, lived in extreme poverty. Nearly half the population in developing countries lived on less than $1.25 a day. Why should we spend money on space exploration when we already have so many problems here on Earth? Is it really that important? It’s like What if our ancestors thought that it would be a waste of time to figure out agriculture while we can do hunting? Or why should we spend so much time on exploring new lands while we have so many problems in our land? Each year, space exploration contributes to a lot of innovations on earth. It gave answers to many fundamental questions about our existence, and a lot of questions there to be answered if only we could increase our investment on space exploration. NASA’s annual budget is 23 billion dollars but, its only 0.1% of the total revenue. even if we were to increase the international budget 20 times it would only be a small fraction of GDP. isn’t our future worth a quarter of a percent?

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.

Benefits of space exploration:

Improves our day to day life

Since 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to ever set foot on moon, our interest in science and technology has improved a lot. In 22nd February 1978, US space agency launched the first satellite for its program of global positioning system (GPS). Currently there are 31 global positioning system (GPS) satellites orbiting the earth.Space exploration helped us to create many inventions like television, camera phones, internet, laptops, LED’s, wireless gadgets, purifying system of water and many more that we are using in our day to day life. There are nearly 3,372 active satellites providing information on navigation, business & finance, weather, climate and environmental monitoring, communication and safety.

   Improving health care

The international space station plays a vital role in health and medical advancements. The Astronauts who works on the ISS able to do experiments that aren’t possible on earth due to the difference in the gravity. The project of Exomedicine – the study of medicine and micro-gravity, gravity has an effect on a molecular level so working in an environment where it can be eliminated from the equation allows discoveries that would otherwise be impossible. Medical advancements due to space exploration include,

  • Diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases
  • Treatment of chronic metabolic disorders
  • Better understanding of osteoporosis
  • Improvements in Breast cancer detection
  • Programmable pacemakers
  • Laser angioplasty
  • NASA’s device with Space technology for Asthma
  • ISS plays vital role in vaccine development
  • Early detection of immune changes prevents shingles
  • Development of MRI s and CT or CAT Scans
  • And invention of ear thermometers

Need for space colonization

Overpopulation is one of the major crises in our planet. Currently we have 7.8 billion people alive on earth. Experts predict that there will be 9.7 billion people by 2050 and 11 billion by 2100, our earth can carry only 9 billion to 12 billion people with the limited food and freshwater resources. That means we have to find an exoplanet with suitable conditions soon. We already went to moon 6 times, we already sent a rover to Mars. Robotic missions are cost efficient, but if one is considering the future of human race we have to go there ourselves. Elon Musk announced that SpaceX is going to send people to Mars I 2022. NASA planned to make a colony on Mars by 2030. These missions are not something we need at this moment. But it may play an important role on our future. Proxima Centauri b is an exoplanet which is 4.24 light years away from us. With our current technology, it is impossible to reach it in our lifetime. But we should make it as an aim for interstellar travel over the next 200 to 500 years. Stephen hawking said that the human race has existed as a separate species for about 2 million years. Civilization began about 10,000 years ago, and the rate of development has been steadily increasing. If the human race is to continue for another million years, we will have to boldly go where no one has gone before.

The day we stop exploring is the day we commit ourselves to live in a stagnant world, devoid of curiosity, empty of dreams. –Neil deGrasse Tyson

Jeff Bezos sues NASA

Blue origin, the space company claimed by Jeff Bezos, is suing the US government over its choice to grant a enormous Moon investigation contract to its competitor SpaceX, it said in a articulation Monday. The company has recorded a suit with the US Court of Government Claims “in an endeavor to cure the blemishes” in how the contract was granted, agreeing to the statement. The human landing framework (HLS) contract, worth $2.9 billion (generally Rs. 21,540 crores), was given to SpaceX, possessed by Bezos’ very rich person equal Elon Musk, in April

It was dissented by the other bidders, who contended NASA was required to form different grants which the assessment prepare was unfair. “We immovably accept that the issues recognized in this obtainment and its results must be tended to to reestablish decency, make competition, and guarantee a secure return to the Moon for America,” Blue Beginning said.Since losing the contract, Blue Root has unequivocally campaigned to have the choice turned around. It recorded a dissent with the Government Responsibility Office, but in July the guard dog maintained NASA’s choice

NASA said in a explanation Monday that it was informed of Blue Origin’s claim and it is investigating the case. “With our accomplices, we’ll go to the Moon and remain to empower science examinations, create unused innovation, and make tall paying occupations for the more noteworthy great and in arrangement to send space travelers to Damages,” the explanation said. Under the Artemis program, NASA is arranging to return people to the Moon within the center of this decade and construct a lunar orbital station, some time recently a manned mission is sent to Defaces within the 2030s. Musk’s company, established in 2002, is right now NASA’s driving private segment accomplice.

Startup Story of Elon Musk

Elon Musk is the result of a combination of talent and dedication. He always gives new discoveries to this world by thinking about how to go from one success to another without thinking about his achievements. Through his Solar City company, he has made solar power available to the public at an affordable price and also provided an opportunity to drive an electric car through Tesla Motors. Not only this, he has also facilitated space travel through his company SpaceX.

The journey of success we are going to see today is the journey of Elon Musk, the most talented entrepreneur in this world and the hard working man who aims to make all the people of this world live well.

The Birth and Adolescence of Elon Musk

Elon Reeve Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. Born into a struggling family, his childhood was very difficult. Elon learned computer programming at an early age, which allowed him to sell his first program when he was 12 years old. He sold a space game called Blaster for $ 500. He briefly attended the University of Pretoria before moving to Canada aged 17 to attend Queen’s University. He transferred to the University of Pennsylvania two years later, where he received bachelor’s degrees in economics and physics. After graduation, Musk traveled to Stanford University to study for his PhD. But he barely started the program before leaving it.

He deferred his admission after only two days in California, deciding to test his luck in the internet boom that was just getting underway. Elon Musk and his brother Kimbal, started a software company called Zip2 in 1995 using $ 28,000 from their father. Musk became a U.S citizen in 2002. As the website began to grow more detailed and faster, newspaper makers began to explore how it could be used. Musk’s company has signed contracts with local newspaper makers such as The New York Times and Chicago Tribune to start producing online city guides online. But Zip 2 started to get a lot of obstacles. Board was barred from becoming Musk’s CEO. The Board sold the company to CompaQ for $307 million + $34 million in stock options in 1999. Elon received 7%, or $ 22 million.

Elon Musk started an online banking company called X.com as a co-founder, spending $ 10 million from the sale of Zip2. The next year the dot com bubble was fully formed and all the other tech companies backed out and bought another online banking company, X.com Confinity, and its money transfer services, PayPal. X.com decided to focus on this and renamed the company PayPal. It has grown from thousands of users to over 1 million users in just a few years and is loved by all as an easy online payment system.

The Board issue, however, was another issue for Elon Musk. He was fired as CEO due to technical issues surrounding the future of management. Again following this issue the company came to the point of being sold. This time the issue for eBay. At that time, a quarter of the transaction on eBay was completed by PayPal. In 2002, the stock traded for $ 1.5 billion, making it a huge sale compared to Internet company standards. Elon received $ 165 million for his 11.7% stake in PayPal.

It was during this time that Musk began to think about space travel and thought of a miniature experimental greenhouse as Mars Land. Elon decided to start a company when it came to the return flight. He wanted to build a cheap rocket using Vertical Integration and Modular Approach of Software Integration. All of this led to the launch of SpaceX in 2002. This was Musk’s vision of a great vision. He funded the project with $ 100 million from his own network. But the company quickly began to make a profit. NASA awarded a contract to SpaceX to develop the Falcon 9 launch vehicle in 2006 and then raised $ 1.6 billion in 2008. He was, however, bent on meeting a more important need than headlines and profit.

Tesla Motors is a brand that has made Musk world famous for its similar public idealism. Elon Musk came in as a leading investor in an early management and invested $ 7.5 million. In addition to his reputation, he took an active role in the company and instigated the use of carbon fiber bodies from Tesla Roadster as design in-charge. He subsequently invested further and became CEO of Tesla Motors in 2008. The company’s first car, the Tesla Roadster, has sold 2,500 vehicles in 31 countries.

Elon Musk came up with the idea for Solar City while thinking about the production side of Energy Equation. In 2006 he and his cousins Lyndon and Peter Rive all co-founded. The company provided the finance, design and installation for the solar panel. They also collaborated with Tesla Motors to construct electric car charging stations. In 2014, Solar City employed 6,000 people. Elon Musk promised to build a Solar City in Buffalo City, New York. The company is now the second largest provider of solar power in the US. Musk is its Largest Share Holder. Elon Musk is still investing in future generations.

In 2013, he proposed a concept called Hyper Loop. Developed a concept for a train to transport people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in just 35 minutes. He calls it the Hyperloop, and he estimates it would cost $ 6 billion to build.

No one has been able to stop Elon from successfully launching the 4th launch of SpaceX. Failures and losses became a major lesson for his future goals. Elon continues to travel towards his goals.

Elon Musk

Elon Musk(born June 28, 1971) is an businessman. He was born in South Africa. He moved to Canada and later became an American citizen. Musk is the current CEO & Chief Product Architect of Tesla, Inc., a company that makes electric vehicles. He is also the CEO of Solar City, a company that makes solar panels, and the CEO & CTO of SpaceX, an aerospace company. In August 2020, Bloomberg ranked Musk third among the richest people on the planet with net worth to be $198 billion. In January 2021, Musk became the richest person in the world with a net worth of US$209 billion.

When Jeff Bezos first started his virtual venture, he wanted to call the company Cadabra, as in abracadabra. He phoned his Seattle lawyer to try out the name, but the attorney misheard Bezos and replied, “Cadaver! Why would you want to call your company that?” Bezos quickly reconsidered and adopted the name Amazon.com, after the world’s second-largest river.

Despite Amazon’s stunning revenue numbers—the company’s gross profit in 2019 neared $115 billion—it hardly ever declares a major profit, as Bezos’ strategy has always been to reinvest profits into the company’s growth. But that doesn’t bother Jeff Bezos. “To be profitable [now] would be would be a bad decision,” he told PC Week. “This is a critical formative time if you believe in investing in the future.” By expanding the site’s offerings far beyond it’s initial book inventory, Bezos has turned Amazon into the largest online retailer in the world. “There are always three or four brands that matter,” Bezos told PC Week. “With the lead we have today, we should be the No. 1 player.”

Amazon’s runaway growth has made Jeff Bezos the richest man in the world. By owning 12 percent of the company, Bezos’ net worth is estimated to be $116 billion. He maintains the world’s richest man status despite going through a divorce in with wife MacKenzie, who received 4% of Amazon in the settlement (valued at $38 billion). But you wouldn’t know how rich Bezos is from his pay stub. He has collected the same $81,840 salary from the company for over two decades.

Elon Musk

World’s Second Richest Person and an Ideal For Many

Elon Musk

Elon Musk or Elon Reeve Musk is an entrepreneur business magnate in today’s world who has totally evolved the technological terms of today . He is the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at SpaceX early stage investor CEO and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc. He was born in Pretoria, South Africa. He got his Bachelor’s degree in physics and economics from  University of Pennsylvania. He started his career by co-founding the web software company Zip2. This startup was acquired by Compaq for $307 million in 1999. After this Musk co-founded online bank X.com that same year, which merged with Confinity in 2000 to form PayPal. The company was bought by eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.

SpaceX

Then In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company, of which he is CEO and CTO. This rocket firm SpaceX, works on building reusable rockets and aspires to land humans on Mars .

Tesla

Then after this in 2004, he joined electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors, Inc. (now Tesla, Inc.) as a chairman and product architect and became its CEO in 2008. Tesla produces super modern cars that run on lithium batteries and are luxurious and have an auto pilot mode which sounds really impossible to normal ears.

Solar City

In 2006, he helped create SolarCity, a solar energy services company that was later acquired by Tesla and became Tesla Energy. This company Solar City develops solar panels and solar roof tiles and aims at making this world to use the purest and cleanest fuels that are highly renewable so that even their infinite use does not exhaust them.

Neuralink

Neuralink is a startup which develops ultra high bandwidth brain machine interfaces to connect human brains to computers to help cure nervous system problems. The company was launched in 2016 and was first publicly reported in March 2017.

Failure

All this was not always as smooth as it looks. The biggest success of PayPal today was once awarded with “World’s worst business concept of the year”. Elon Musk is a person who has experienced some very adverse situations in terms of his personal life. After all, he went through a very public and long divorce process with his previous wife. He stated that this period was consumed by deep depression. As if that wasn’t enough when the 2008 recession depleted the profitability of Space X and Tesla. Elon was almost broke again and facing a decision to axe one of these two companies. In the end, Elon decided to split any remaining funds between the two companies and later that year. He received word that NASA were committing $6 billion to Space X. Needless to say, both companies survived the storm and Elon even married again just a few years later.

Where most people leave , Elon leaned in and poured is money , sweat, blood, tears in making his companies successful and his passion for design, engineering and the future would have him succeed on both the fronts.

Learning

The main thing to learn is that with the acquisition of PayPal his net-worth rose to 123 Million USD and he could have retired early and rode off into sunset and live happily after ” BUT THAT’S NOT HOW LEGENDS ARE MADE” . Instead he took a gamble and invested his newfound millions into his two separate companies – SpaceX and Tesla .

Elon Musk buys a ticket on Sir Richard Branson’s space flight – report

Sir Richard confirmed the purchase in an interview.

E

Elon Musk has bought a ticket on one of rival billionaire Sir Richard Branson’s spaceship flights, according to a newspaper report.

As Sir Richard prepares to fly on Virgin Galactic’s first fully crewed flight to the edge of space on Sunday from New Mexico, The Sunday Times says Mr Musk – who owns rival exploration company SpaceX – has paid for a seat on a future Virgin voyage.

Mr Musk paid a 10,000-dollar (£7,000) deposit to reserve a seat. No date for his flight has been specified.

Sir Richard confirmed the purchase in an interview with The Sunday Times, saying he might reciprocate by booking a ticket on a SpaceX flight in the future.

“Elon’s a friend and maybe I’ll travel on one of his ships one day,” he said.

Amid what has been dubbed the billionaires’ space race, SpaceX has launched dozens of rockets, including manned flights, but Mr Musk himself has not yet flown on any. The company is due to launch its first fully private spaceflight in the autumn.

Sir Richard will become the first owner-astronaut to take part in a mission, beating Amazon founder Jeff Bezos who plans to reach space in his own rocket – through his Blue Origin company – in nine days’ time.

Tourists are expected to pay some 250,000 dollars (£180,000) for a spaceflight on Virgin Galactic, which includes four minutes of zero gravity.
