Mission

It is the mission of Prescott College to educate students of diverse ages and backgrounds to understand, thrive in, and enhance our world community and environment. We regard learning as a continuing process and strive to provide an education that will enable students to live productive lives while achieving a balance between self-fulfillment and service to others. Students are encouraged to think critically and act ethically with sensitivity to both the human community and the biosphere. Our philosophy stresses experiential learning and self-direction within an interdisciplinary curriculum.

Roots and Foundation: Prescott College History

Prescott College began in the 1960s, a time of optimism and growth, when leaders of a small town in the stunningly beautiful pine and chaparral country of central Arizona were searching for a new cultural identity. Dr. Charles Franklin Parker, minister of Prescott’s First Congregational Church and Prescott College founder, announced the ambitious project of creating the Harvard of the West – Prescott College. With the group of visionary leaders, Parker drew on the Congregationalist tradition of founding over 50 leading colleges and universities in America, beginning with Harvard in 1636, and including such institutions as Middlebury, Dartmouth, Amherst, Smith, Yale, Oberlin, Grinnell, Whitman, Colorado, Pomona and Scripps.

Making a Difference in a Changing World . . .

Many of the College\’s core philosophical and educational principles emerged in 1963, in a conference of state and nationally known leaders from higher education funded by the Ford Foundation’s Fund for Post-Secondary Education, Business and Industry. These principles crystallized around a central goal: To produce the leaders increasingly crucial to successfully meeting the challenges of the changing world. Dr. Parker’s vision “for a pioneering, even radical experiment in higher education “ and “to graduate society’s leaders for the twenty-first century who would be needed to solve the world’s growing environmental and social problems” seems especially prescient today, as humanity comes to terms with global warming and its potential for large-scale, adverse health, social, economic, and ecological effects. Society looks to new models of education to better prepare students of all ages for their role as global citizens.

What Exactly is a Goal?

Goals are the most important of our plan. It defines what we want to become and achieve in future. We can re-direct our plans more confidently and can ignore the ideas that cannot contribute to success of ours.

Our goals can be achieved through proper planning, clarification of goals and goal setting. Each one us have a vision and set of dreams of long-term goals that actually provide strong base for achievement. Goals gets connected with our deepest motivation, mind and purpose.

Types of goals

Actually all the goals are not same. There are certain goals that focus on the outcome while other goals focus on the performances.

Outcome Goals

Outcome goals are the most common type of goals. It focuses on gaining something at a particular point of time. Big goals can be broke down by years, quarterly, month and week.

These kind of goals are really very hard to reach and it is more frustrating and depressing if you cannot achieve them. But one thing, this type of goal provides a crystal clear view of planning and the guidance.

Execution or performance goals

Execution goals are also known as performance goals because it focuses on the duration of the goals. It measures the activity that is to be done on daily basis. It helps in personal growth and helps in gaining concentration. It allows new ideas to flow.

An execution goal create a habit of achieving more clear goals with your potentiality. It makes the tasks easier and simple.

How to set your goals on right track

It is very important to get your goals on right track whatever may the goal type be. Below given are 3 steps of how to set your goals right. Read it down.

  1. Clarification of goals: First of all, you have to set a clear view of goal because goal setting is not that easy task. Choose wisely by taking your time. It should include the various aspects of your life and career. You have known the difference between ‘reality’ and ‘achievable’ goals. Think deeply. For achieving any goal you have to come out of your comfort zone and must be that much confident that you can achieve your dreams.
  2. Start with the end in mind.Choose your goals carefully: Choose your goals very carefully. Choose that goals only where you can be committed and have the confidence that you can give your best not that goals where you are not confident. Better break your goals in short-term and focus on the targets that you want to achieve. You have to specific, clear and target-oriented. One way to depict that your goals are clear is that asking yourself the questions like ‘How to measure success?’ and ‘How to know that you have reached your goal?’
  3. Plan how to reach your goals: focus on everything that is to be done to reach your goal. Divide your goals in small steps so that it become easy. A proper milestone and a structured must be formed to reach your goal. There will many obstacles but you have to overcome like your beliefs, facts, habits and many more. Make a list f all those facts, beliefs and habits that are stopping you from achieving your goals. Task and time management plays an important role in achieving your goal. Plan a deadline for every task of your goal.

Turn your dreams into reality

By practicing your goal setting, chasing your goals is hard, but you can make your goal into reality by doing hard work. Turn your execution of goals into habits. By acquiring a good health, start the preparation of achieving your goals.

There must be a reliable cash flow statement of your day providing you the dream of achieving your goal rather than winning millions of moneys.

Start setting your goals right now

Always be honest with yourself. Think properly that are you really there where you want to see yourself? If not, give a try, sit with a pen and a paper and jot down the plans for your goals and start to act accordingly.

One framework of your setting your plans will help you to achieve your dream one day.

How to create Multiple happiness streams in your Life

When it comes to increasing financial wealth, many experts have said it’s wise to diversify and create multiple streams of revenue or cash flow. The same goes for increasing happiness.

The reality is most people don’t. Instead they rely on one stream of happiness. Relying on one source creates a dependent relationship and can become troublesome, especially, in the case of a pandemic, if that source becomes unavailable to you.

A way to resolve this is by creating multiple streams of happiness. The following are the three key streams of happiness that will level up your business, well-being, and fulfilment.

Level One: People: People are the easiest source to tap into your happiness. If you are not spending a lot time with anyone but specifically those who make you happy, this will severely impact your happiness, business and eventually healthy. As entrepreneurs are very much aware of the stories of depression, increased anxiety, lower motivation, and lack of physical care-taking, to combat that it is vital to install social connection as a daily practice. Having close connection has proven to lessen susceptibility to premature death, better handle to stressful events. Creating more social engagement, especially during this pandemic, when we are not able to be physically close, has more important than ever. These connections will provide you happiness and joy. Studies have shown ever talking to strangers can make you happier. This is completely opposite of what we have been taught growing up. Yet your business and future are dependent on connection with strangers. If you do not have close relationship with them, having a conversation over zoom or just shooting a test, can improve your health and happiness stream.

Level Two: Places: We have the ability to create or go to environments that bring us joy. During a pandemic, you may feel limited in where those places are. Let’s take a look at three types of environments. The first is inside your home. This could be ‘work from home’, world, it is even more important to have spaces inside your home that are not work-related and specifically designed to make you happy. The second is public and available open-air locations such as parks, beaches or trails. Exposure to these places will ground you and naturally increase your self-esteem and happiness. The third are virtual places. We can use video conferencing tools and each tech platforms such as social media and meet up apps to socially engage. Whether it is attending a virtual concert, yoga or meditation class or pub trivia, finding and knowing you can always have access to these places will virtually guarantee you moments of joy, especially if you have not had those experiences in a while.

Level Three: Things or Experiences: While it is nice to have people around and places to go have fun, what you do to have fun is vital. The more time you experience the moments of your life, the less you worry about the stress that come as an entrepreneur, the more you experience gratitude. Even though combining these three streams create the maximum impact on happiness using them as separate streams will make life happier, more joyful, and in the long term, create more success for you as a well-balanced entrepreneur.

Whether it is through social engagement, environments or experiences, having diversity in creating of joy will create sustainable, long-term happiness even in the most stressful of times.

While being able to rely on a single source creates security in anything, what creates even more security in expanding beyond just one source of reliability. And this applies to virtually everything in life. Your business and soul will thank you.

Hope you have enjoyed reading this article. We will be back with more exciting topic during this pandemic crisis time. But for this you all have to stay connected with us.

Till then goodbye. Have a nice day. Stay at home and stay safe. Always stay healthy and be the sponge that absorb all kinds of negativity and emit all positive vibes.

BIO METRIC Technology

Bio metric is used to determine the person identity on the basis of its physical characteristics. For example, voice recognition systems work by measuring the characteristics of a person’s speech as air is expelled through their lungs, across the larynx and out through their nose and mouth,Fingerprint scanner etc.so how bio metric is useful lets understand.Every time you unlock a smartphone screen with a facial recognition, ask Siri for a weather update, or log in to your online bank account using your fingerprint, you’re using bio metrics. You might use the technology every day to authenticate your identity or communicate with a personal device, but there are plenty of other uses for bio metrics.

bio metric is like two step verification first you need to claim your identity by punching your card then by scanning your fingerprint you need to prove your identity isn’t it amazing!.

Advantages

1 The very first advantage is that nobody can replicate the information. Because every individual has unique characteristics.

2 It provides more security than the old paper work and password methods.

3 Easy to use

4 Its Accountable

Disadvantages

1 cost could be one disadvantage.

2. data breach could be there as hackers can steal the information

The bottom line is that this technology is very impressive as its helps in identification of the person with his unique physical characteristics there are many types of this technology such as iris identification, fingerprint, face, voice.each of the types have their own pros and cons.

Bio metric technology offers very compelling solutions for security. Despite the risks, the systems are convenient and hard to duplicate. Plus, these systems will continue to develop for a very long time into the future

Dissecting the Esports growth in India – Before and after Pubg Ban

On the evening of 2nd September, pubg mobile and Pubg mobile lite was banned including 118 Apps in India. From few months, there was a buzz around Pubg that whether it will be banned or not, how will things unfold, when it will be banned. On Wednesday, Ministry of Electronics and IT department released a press report stating the Ban on these 118 apps. Now let’s take a leap to the growth of Esports in India. In the starting of decade 2010’s, the term Esports was having a little buzz. Those years saw the nurturing phase of Esports, like what it is, how it will be and how big it will be in coming years. Esports now has become a big and recognized field and sector in the world. The esports market was valued at USD 694.2 million in 2017 and is expected to reach USD 2,174.8 million by 2023, at a CAGR of 18.61% between 2018 and 2023. The esports market is expected to grow because of various driving factors, such as increasing popularity of video games and growing awareness about esports. Pubg has played the right ignition for the sector in India for youth and game developers.

History

Few people know that Esports was getting popular somewhere around the 10 years back. Craze for gaming was popular from very early times. But the Esports as a serious filed born somewhere in 2011. It has now become a serious career option in the world. India is also growing as a Research and development center for all the world. India due to its recent interest and its youth population, is attracting the all Esports giants. Quite a few companies are looking at India as its primary testing scenario and manufacture hub. China is already holding the no. 1 ranking in Esports while India is still ranking at 15th position. However, it has just shot up in India after the arrival of battle ground game by krafton gaming & Tencent.  2-3 years down the line, India has shown a huge growth due to some popular games like Pubg mobile and COD mobile. Freefire and Fortnite is also among the few other popular names.

Esports vs Gaming

Most of the peoples may have a clear idea but few forks might find it confusing. So, the generally we can say Esports is more like a physical sport which has its competitive side. Just like that Esports also has its competitive scenario with every game. Esports has competition game wise.  Esports also has skill set to perform in such competitions. However, gaming is kind of casual term for games. Esports and gaming is just like Club cricket and gully cricket. Esports has everything like normal sports like coaches, teams and analyst like other support staffs. Esports has grown just as it has contracts which players sign and play under a professional team.

International Competition

Esports also has same dedication and craze like immersing yourself to win for your team and specially for your country. Somewhere we all know that international Competitions holds the respect of you respective teams and you have to give all the honours possible. Esports player usually practices for 10 hours or more depending on their area of work and their focus on some specific skills or moves. An average Esports player is quite more responsive than an average gaming player who plays for fun. Just like Sports, Esports also demands Some extra efforts to get yourself at some good levels. It involves your Response time and your frequency of taps and clicks. Basically, how fast you are in compare to others. It works in milliseconds. You need to have a good hand eye coordination for better results.

Esports is now being featured in Asian games, though it was a trail but somewhere it is confirmed that it will be a part of international sports championships like Olympics in coming times. Indian gamer Tirth Mehta won the medal for India in trials of Esports in Asian games. It is just matter of time that it becomes a usual part of Olympics like other games.

Pubg the game changer in India

Back in 2018 when pubg mobile got launched in India, it became an instant hit. Whole world including Indian youth grabbed this game as their favourite and became go to game for all the users. It was a common choice for all the users of different ages and choices. The concept of Battlegrounds was fully used by this game and changed the revolution for whole Esports in India. There were some games like CSGO, DOTA2 and COC. But Everything was shattered once Pubg came and it started its some competitive series like Dream hack & PMIS (Pubg Mobile India Series). Now until September 2020 Pubg has organised more than 10 series in India alone. Some Esports team has grossed high no. of fan followings like SouL, TSM, Fnatic, OR and Team IND. The esports has also increased the field of streaming scenario a lot in the whole world and also in world.

Statistics of Esports in India

According to one statistics website named statista.com, the value of gaming industry in FY2020 is around 87.8 billion Indian rupees. Which is nearly 25.8B Rs more than previous of 62B in FY2019. A rapid penetration and affordability of smartphones, along with cheap mobile data have led to mobile phones being the most preferred device for gaming. The value of the mobile gaming market in India was projected to reach about 405 million U.S. dollars by the year 2022. This marked a significant increase in the sector’s market value from about 266 million dollars in 2016. The total no. of gamer in FY2020 is 365M while in FY2018 was near 269M.

Impact of Pubg Ban

Pubg ban in India has resulted in Tencent loosing approx. 14 Billion Dollars in market. The share of tencent has seen a fall of 2% until now. Pubg is among the topmost downloads in game scenario with 150M downloads. Tencent holds a 10% stake in PUBG’s parent company Bluehole.  Tencent Games is a part of Tencent Holdings, which is a Chinese multinational conglomerate. However, this move by India comes amid fresh border tensions with China in Ladakh when India spoiled repeated attempts by Chinese troops to transgress into the Indian side of Line of Actual Control (LAC) with intentions to unilaterally change the status quo. As most of players belong to Pubg right now, we can literally quote that they have literally lost their job in peak time of market. Lockdown had rightly supported them but now they are completely lost with some diminishing hopes that Pubg makes a comeback soon. Best thing to them is still this that they have support of audience and the fans.

Fau-G: New game

Just after the Ban news of Pubg came out with other 118 Apps, there comes the big announcement by Actor Akshay Kumar of a new game named Fau-G. However, its poster got involved in controversy of copying the poster from an old movie project. Public on the other hand has given mixed reactions to the game. Most of the people are saying that Ban of Pubg has created a large void which is not easy to fill. Audience has high expectation from this game as pubg has set the standards too high. There is also questions over its worldwide Competitive scenario. One thing is sure that International competition is too far and not probable in coming time. We personally as Indian audience don’t want another game like china i.e. “Game for Peace”. This makes them completely distanced from the international experience in competitive terms and in user base.

Pubg unban

Recently pubg announced that he is breaking his partnership with Tencent. Actually, it is specific to India only. Tencent will not be involved in any scenario in India. Pubg was involved in developing its mobile version. So, all the distribution and development will be solely handled by Bluehole and pubg corporation. However, pubg has stake in Bluehole company, which was taken earlier 3-4 months back. Now let’s see how many days it will take pubg to make a comeback in India. It may take 2 weeks to 2 months or more.

Esports as a career

Even though Esports has seen an upper high in few years but still it is bound under a strict bubble. While Pubg and other games are coming but in India Esports is mostly about Pubg mobile. More than 85% gamers are regular player of Pubg mobile both in terms of Pubg mobile competitive and streaming.  Parents in India are now quite comfortable about their children’s career in sports. If you are dedicated and good at it, parents will allow you for sure. But Esports is still not so popular in India around the middle-aged parents. Parents are still unknown to this field and its possibility of being a career. It’s not they are reluctant instead it’s that they are completely unknown to this platform. Still it’s not that difficult to survive in the gaming Community. Hard work can conquer anything to everything, one needs to dedicate soul and work to achieve the fame and gaming is not an exception. There are many opportunities to create in future but there is no professional option in India till now. With the ban of Pubg, everything has come to halt as there is way ahead to even plan the destination. Even established players are mostly pubg players and they have to start everything from scratch again. There is expectation to get streaming service watching a low too due to this decision. So, it has lowered more than it has grown in recent years. This reason is this that no other game has such big fan base like pubg and still it will benefit other games, but it is unlikely to take place of Pubg. However, Pubg would be putting blood and soul to somehow bring it back in action. For now, Esport is just like which is open to many glorious but nothing to offer and accept.

Bizzare Indian Superstitions

https://www.pexels.com/

As the world has entered the era of drone delivery & Chandrayaan launches, yet it fails to get rid of age-old beliefs that have no scientific or logical reasoning behind it. The Cambridge dictionary defines superstition as “a belief that is not based on human reason or scientific knowledge but is connected with old ideas about magic & etc. “
This blind belief upon superstitions turns one into a mentally-weak, peevish & ridiculous person. This directly or indirectly causes retardation in the progress of the country.
Although this blind trust upon superstitions is not the same as faith. Exemplary support to describe faith can be the existence of God. It’s not a superstition to believe in his existence. Faith is necessary for a man’s existence. This theism instills the quality of being religious & god-fearing thus ennobling one morally & spiritually.
There are still many people in the country who believe and follow many of such beliefs and superstitions. While superstitions are usually attributed to lack of education, well-educated Indians also follow these superstitions quite blindly. Although you can’t make out the reason behind them. But they are still being followed within some Indian societies with utmost sincerity. So here is a collection of 10 super-weird & fun superstitions curated just for you :
1] A black cat crossing your way hints one to delay or postpone the work. To tackle the situation, people usually tend to change their way or direction, avoiding to take that particular path that the cat crossed.
2] The hooting of an owl & moaning of dogs are considered to be a bad omen.
3] This has to the most prominent Indian superstition by far. Having a spoonful of sweetened curd before heading out, to begin with, something important is considered auspicious.
4] If a crow is calling by your place, implies you are having guests. On the contrary, a crow’s shit is also implied to bring good luck.
5] Getting hiccups hints that someone is probably thinking of you.
6] Adding a rupee to the cash meant to be given, is considered auspicious.
7] One can easily spot some chilies & a lemon hanging by a string in front of shops in India. This is believed to avert the evil power from your place.
8] There’s a right time & period to cut hair & nails. One shouldn’t cut his nails or hair on Thursdays & Saturdays. Plus also not in the night time.
9] No. 3 or 13 is said to bring bad luck. So one must avoid these numbers.
10] Wearing rings of different stones & metals is said to bring good luck.

Tencent out of the Way….

The developer of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has cut ties with Tencent (TCEHY) in India in a bid to skirt a government ban on Chinese mobile apps in one of the video game’s most lucrative markets.PUBG Corporation said in a statement on Tuesday that Tencent Games in India will no longer be authorized to publish the mobile version of its PUBG franchise. The South Korean gaming company said it will take on all publishing responsibilities itself within the country, where PUBG was the biggest grossing mobile game last month.

PUBG was the top mobile game by monthly active users in India last year, according to analytics firm AppAnnie. In the first half of this year, it was downloaded more than 54 million times, analytics firm Sensor Tower told CNN Business. Last month, it generated $2.2 million in revenue, earning the most among India’s top 20 mobile games. The news will come as a blow to Tencent (TCEHY), which has already had its popular messaging app WeChat banned in India. It is also contending with a possible WeChat ban in the United States. Tencent did not immediately respond to a request for comment on PUBG’s announcement.India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has now banned nearly 200 mobile apps originating from China, according to Gateway House, a foreign policy think tank in Mumbai. In June it banned the short-form video app TikTok, which is owned by ByteDance. The ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether PUBG’s actions will give Indian fans access to themobile version of the game again.

A week after PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite were banned in India citing threats to national security. South Korea-based PUBG Corporation has said it was working with the Government of India to resolve the issue. PUBG’s solution is to start publishing all games itself in India and not via Chinese tech major Tencent Games.

Within two days of the ban, both Google Play Store and Apple App store have removed PUBG Mobile as well as PUBG Mobile Lite. Both apps had millions of downloads in the country. “It has seen an overwhelming amount of support for the game from the country’s player base and would like to thank the community for their passion and enthusiasm,” PUBG noted.

The South Korean maker of popular mobile game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG, is looking to partner an Indian gaming firm in an attempt to resurrect its fortunes in its biggest market.

A person aware of the negotiations said a new licensing agreement is in the works with an Indian gaming firm to pass on the rights to run the PUBG Mobile game in India.

Unlike earlier, PUBG Corp. will now retain the publishing rights for the game, with the Indian partner handling the distribution

Terrorism In India : An Overview

The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to indimate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

India has already been ranked among the top ten terrorism affected countries including states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Tripura, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. • There are other states also which have been victims of Naxalite terrorism.

 CAUSES OF TERRORISM IN INDIA

 • In India ,terrorism can be classified in 3 distinct parts: . Cross border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. . Terrorism in the hinterland. . Extreme violence and terrorism as an integral part of the ongoing insurgencies.

 • In a richly diverse society, politics of communalism and criminalisation, fanatic religious movements and irresponsible statements by political leaders, marginalised minority communities, high levels of youth unemployment, poverty, illiteracy etc. Provide an ideal fertile ground for terrorism to take root and thrive in India. India also remains highly vulnerable to terrorism by foreign terrorists, due to porous borders with all its neighbours and a long coast line.

 • As a result, the terrorists and insurgents continue to receive material support and funds from a number of sources.

 • India has experienced all kinds of terrorist attacks like hijacking and blowing up of aircrafts, the assassination of 2 of its prime ministers etc.

• Political cause: primary source of terrorism in India. For example, this ia primarily seen in Tripura and Assam. The political factors that resulted in terrorism included the failure of the government to control and manage large scale immigrants from Bangladesh.

 • Economic cause: Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh are prime examples. The economic factors include rural unemployment, exploitation of landless labourers by those who own land. These economic perceptions and grievances of gross social injustice have led to the rise of ideological groups of terrorists.

 • Religious causes: these are also primary sources of terrorism. In Punjab, some elements of Sikh belonging to different organisations shifted to terrorism to the development of an independent state known as Khalistan for Sikhs.

• State-sponsored terrorism: which consists of terrorist acts on a state or government by a state or a government.

 • Dissent-terrorism: which are terrorist groups that dissent against their government.

• Terrorists and the left and the right: which are the groups rooted in political ideologies.

 • Religious terrorism: terrorists groups that are extremely religiously motivated.

• Criminal terrorism: terrorists acts used to aid in crime and criminal profit.

Terrorism can undermine political moderation in a democracy, paving the way for more extreme elements to gain footholds. The death toll of a terrorist attack ,often inflicted in a spectacular way that draws media attention and leads to political criticism, can undermine faith in government.  The secular, pluralistic, ethnically diverse, and vibrant democracy that India has nurtured ever since its independence on 1947 has become the envy of many radical and extremist ideologies.

IMPACT OF TERRORISM

Firstly, it creates a state of panic amongst the citizens. The bomb blasts or firing impacts the mental health of the people.  Terrorist attacks create a sense of doubt in the foreign investors of India. This causes a huge blow to the business of India depending upon them. Thus, it damages the economy. As terrorist attacks cause loss of life and property, the replenishment takes up a lot of capital. There are political effects of terrorism in India. The killing of ex prime ministers of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, by terrorists ,effected Indian politics and economy at large. Due to 26/11 Mumbai attack , Home minister Mr. Shivraj Patil, chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had to resign. This unstabilized the Indian industry.  The financial markets have been directly and indirectly the victims of terrorist attacks. In the aftermath of attacks, the financial markets were not only confronted with major activity disruptions caused by the massive damage to property and communication systems, but also with rising levels of uncertainty and market volatility.

STRATEGIES ADOPTED BY INDIAN AGENCIES FIGHTING TERROR.

NIA : A central government investigative agency to probe terror attacks in the country ,created by an act of the parliament of India on December 31,2008, following the Mumbai terror attack of November 2008. Full form is National Investigation Agency.

 • Intelligence agencies: There are a set of agencies responsible for fighting terrorism in India. A major agency utilized for gathering cross border information is the Research and Analysis wing(RAW)- the external intelligence agency. The Intelligence Bureau(IB), a division of the home affairs ministry is responsible for collecting intelligence information inside India

. • NATGRID: National Intelligence Grid is an intelligence grid interconnecting certain agencies of the government of India to collect and share intelligence that could be used by the intelligence agencies of various departments.

 • CAPF: Centre Armed Police Forces are used extensively in Maoist areas , Kashmir and North-east.

Terrorism in India poses a significant threat to the people of India. Ideologies and brain drain are among one of the important thing to keep in mind as causes of this crime. Terrorist attacks leave deterrent effects on society, political instability for the government and loss to the economy, in form of national and international business. Terrorism is very dangerous as it not only kills the human life but also the infrastructure, industry, ultimately damages its overall growth

Assassination of Indira Gandhi

I do not like carving the world into many segments; We are one world

Indira Gandhi, India

Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi Nehru; 19 November 1917 – 31 October 1984) was an Indian politician and a central figure of the Indian National Congress. She was the first and, to date, only female Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India. She served as prime minister from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in October 1984, making her the second longest-serving Indian prime minister after her father.

As prime minister, Gandhi was known for her political intransigency and unprecedented centralisation of power. She went to war with Pakistan in support of the independence movement and war of independence in East Pakistan, which resulted in an Indian victory and the creation of Bangladesh, as well as increasing India’s influence to the point where it became the sole regional power of South Asia. Citing separatist tendencies, and in response to a call for revolution, Gandhi instituted a state of emergency from 1975 to 1977 where basic civil liberties were suspended and the press was censored. Widespread atrocities were carried out during the emergency. In 1980, she returned to power after free and fair elections. After Gandhi ordered military action in the Golden Temple in Operation Blue Star, her own bodyguards and Sikh nationalists assassinated her on 31 October 1984.

In 1999, Indira Gandhi was named “Woman of the Millennium” in an online poll organised by the BBC. In 2020 Gandhi was named by the Time magazine among world’s 100 powerful women who defined the last century.

Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated at 9:29 a.m. on 31 October 1984 at her residence in Safdarjung Road, New Delhi. She was killed by her Sikh bodyguardsSatwant Singh and Beant Singh in the aftermath of Operation Blue Star. Operation Blue Star was an Indian military action carried out between 1 and 8 June 1984, ordered by Indira Gandhi to remove the Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his armed followers from the buildings of the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar, Punjab. The collateral damage included the death of many pilgrims, as well as damage to the Akal Takht. The military action on the sacred temple was criticized by Sikhs both inside and outside India.

At about 9:20 a.m. Indian Standard Time, on 31 October 1984, Gandhi was on her way to be interviewed by British actor Peter Ustinov who was filming a documentary for Irish television. She was wearing a saffron saree with a black border, and accompanied by constable Narayan Singh, personal security officer Rameshwar Dayal and personal secretary, R. K. Dhawan. She was walking through the garden of the Prime Minister’s Residence at No. 1 Safdarjung Road in New Delhi towards the neighboring 1 Akbar Road office.

Gandhi passed a wicket gate guarded by Satwant and Beant Singh, and the two men opened fire. Beant fired three rounds into her abdomen from his .38 revolver, then Satwant fired 30 rounds from his Sten submachine gun after she had fallen to the ground. Both men then threw down their weapons and Beant said, “I have done what I had to do. You do what you want to do.” In the next six minutes, Border Police officers Tarsem Singh Jamwal and Ram Saran captured and killed Beant, while Satwant was arrested by Gandhi’s other bodyguards, along with an accomplice trying to escape; he was seriously wounded Satwant Singh was hanged in 1989 with accomplice Kehar Singh.

Kailasa Temple: A Golden Inscription on the Pages of Indian History

Rock cut architectures, especially from the bygone eras, are awe inspiring pieces of excellent craftsmanship and structural engineering. The sheer amount of details and size of some of the best examples of this art form can leave the people dumbstruck. It is unimaginable for many minds as to how such extravagant monuments and structures were carved with the tools that were available during their creation. These architectures are a reflection of how human beings can create even with limitations, which again, is a relative term with respect to time.

India has a special relation with rock cut architecture, as for the country has the most variety and abundance of these structures across the world. Most of the rock cut structures in India are religious in nature. Amongst all, the Kailash Temple, which is a part of the Ellora cave series is considered to be the pinnacle of this category of architecture. So, what makes it special? Let’s see…

Introduction

Rock cut architecture mainly refers to carving out of structures from a solid natural rock. The large amount of surplus rock pieces that were produced during this process were presumably shifted somewhere else for other economic purposes. To prevent the rocks from falling over the workers, the interiors were carved starting from the roof and then working downwards.

Ellora is one of the largest rock-cut monastery- temple complexes, and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is situated at a distance from 29 kilometres north-west of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India and features Buddhist, Jain and Hindu monuments, dating back to 600 CE. This complex was constructed over a large period of time, spanning from 600-1000 CE. They were built during the reign of Rashtrakuta dynasty (constructed the Hindu and Buddhist caves) and Yadava dynasty (added quite a number of Jain caves). Over 100 caves were excavated in this site from the basalt cliffs in the Charanandri Hills. Out of them, only 34 are open for the public. 12 Buddhist (caves 1-12), 17 Hindu (caves 13-29)and 5 Jain (caves 30-34) make up the public accessible attractions and also display the religious harmony that was the binding cultural fabric of ancient India. The legendary Kailasha temple is featured in cave 16, and holds the honour of being the largest monolithic rock excavation in the world.

Glory of the Bygone Era

Kailasa or Kailashanatha temple is the largest rock cut Hindu temple in the Ellora cave complex. It is a megalith (stone from which a structure or monument is created, alone or along with other stones) shaped like a chariot, carved from a rock cliff face, ranging across 2 kilometres along the sloping basalt cliff. Its construction is estimated to have started in between 756-773 CE and was completed around the 8th century CE. Though there is a lack of dedicatory inscription, but on the basis of two epigraphs (the Vadodara copper plate inscription of Karkaraja II, a ruler of Rashtrakuta branch of Gujarat and the Kadaba grant of Govinda Prabhutavarsha), it is considered that Krishna I, a Rashtrakuta ruler has commissioned the creation of Kailasa temple. Though there are some specks of uncertainty due to various irregularities in the timeline and other historical documents. This magnanimous structure is dedicated to Kailashanatha (Shiva), but there are various sculptures of deities from Vaishnavism and Shaktism, along with relief panels depicting the two major Hindu epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Due to the size, architecture and sculptures, it is considered to be one of the  most exceptional cave temples across the world.  One of the highlight worthy fact about the construction of this temple is that it has been excavated vertically, that is, the carving started from the top of the original rock and moved downwards, in contrast to the established method of carving from the front. The architecture defers from the earlier style attributed to the Deccan region. The southern influence is considered to be due to involvement of Chalukya and Pallava artisans. Based on a Marathi  legend, an architect named Kokasa is theorized to be the chief architect of Kailasa temple. It has some resemblance to the Virupaksha temple, Pattadakal and Kailasa Temple, Kanchi.

Exploring the Culture

The temple courtyard entrance has a low gopuram. The deities on the left side of the entrance belong to Shaivism and on the right side, deities of Vaishnavism are more prominent. This gateway leads to U shaped courtyard, which is edged by a three storey high columned arcade. The arcade and the complementary alcoves are decorated by sculptured panels and relief carvings of various deities. Some of the famous sculptures are ascetic Shiva, dancing Shiva and Shiva being warned by Parvati about Ravana.
The central shrine is dedicated to Shiva and has an image of Nandi (the sacred bull), and is situated within the courtyard. The temple encasing the lingam, also include a flat-roof mandapa, held up by 16 pillars and a Dravidian shikhara. Throughout the entire shrine, carvings of niches, windows, images of deities and mithunas are in abundance. As the tradition, Nandi sits on the porch in front of the primary temple. The Nandi mandapa and the main Shiva temple is situated on a height of 7 metres, and built in two storeys. The base of the temple is carved as such to project that the elephants are holding the temple aloft. The Nandi mandapa is connected to the main shrine via a rock bridge. The lower levels, upon which the temple is standing, depicts various mythological scenes and sculptures. Five detached shrines in the compound are also a notable feature, three of which are dedicated to Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.

Friendship Is The Most Wonderful Relationship In Our Life

Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray us. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits. There are many illustrations that show why a friend can be a great comforter. For example, if a student is going through a hard time at school, a friend can offer guidance, encouragement and support.

A true friend is also someone who loves and respects us. A boyfriend and a girlfriend desire to be with each other. They love each other so much that they just want to be with each other as much as possible. This bond is also present in a good friendship because it has genuine love. Also, as friends they respect each other. They try to avoid causing conflicts. They don’t make fun of each other, but treat each other with respect. As friends, we all make sacrifices for each other. Some friends risk their lives for a friend.

A person is acquainted with many persons in their life. However, the closest ones become our friends. You may have a large friend circle in school or college, but you know you can only count on one or two people with whom you share true friendship. There are essentially two types of friends, one is good friends the other are true friends or best friends. They’re the ones with whom we have a special bond of love and affection. In other words, having a true friend makes our lives easier and full of happiness.

Most importantly, true friendship stands for a relationship free of any judgments. In a true friendship, a person can be themselves completely without the fear of being judged. It makes you feel loved and accepted. This kind of freedom is what every human strives to have in their lives. In short, true friendship is what gives us reason to stay strong in life. Having a loving family and all is okay but you also need true friendship to be completely happy. Some people don’t even have families but they have friends who’re like their family only. Thus, we see having true friends means a lot to everyone.

Being in a relationship and having a boyfriend and girlfriend they key word in that is “friend” the key to a relationship is to be good friends first before rushing into anything. that also means you have genuine love for each other and you even respect each other more. One of the most important thing about having a friend is to never betray them. A friend is loyal through thick and thin, broke or rich, house or no house, smart or dumb. A lot of friendships now a days are not real friendships. People are friends with each other for even a certain period of time to get something out of them. A lot of people do not keep promises in a friendship anymore and it is sad. Loyalty and love makes a friendship a lot stronger.

Therefore, there is no doubt that best friends help us in our difficulties and bad times of life. They always try to save us in our dangers as well as offer timely advice. True friends are like the best assets of our life because they share our sorrow, sooth our pain and make us feel happy.

Online classes results in Eyesight and Ear problems

Most of the students are now undertaking online classes due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. This is indeed a cause of worry for many parents because children spend extra hours on mobile phones and laptops. Experts also speak of the hazardous effects that digital classes can have on eyes of young children. Parents must take precautions and measures to ensure safety of the child’s eyes.

Needless to say, excessive usage of mobile phones, laptops or any other gadgets can affect children in many ways. This can be mental and physical. Eye strain is one amongst the most common problems. Some of its symptoms include excessive blinking, tearing, frequent rubbing of the eyes, dry eyes, headaches from eye strain and even tiredness. Parents must be extremely watchful and careful on how the child spends time online. Most of the classes, especially for children above class 8, goes on for long hours. Parents must cut short their time spent on video games, TV and other gadgets. Only a strict no works with most children!

During the last two weeks, a few school children in the age group of 8-10 came to my clinic with complaints of dryness in their eyes and frequent blinking of eyes. Prolonged reading on the mobile screen and watching it from close range may result in this type of problems,” says G. Hanumantha Rao, an ophthalmologist, who runs his clinic on MVP Double Road. He suggests that a laptop or a desktop with a large screen should be preferred. It also ensures that proper viewing distance is maintained, at least to some extent.

“Prolonged use of earphones can result in noise-induced deafness. It can also cause tinnitus and the child may experience ringing sounds in the ear. Severe exposure may cause inability to hear certain frequencies. The problems depend on the duration and intensity of the sound,” says B. Ramachandra Rao, an ENT surgeon at the Government ENT Hospital in the city.
