IMPORTANT APPROACHING DATES OF INDIAN HISTORY

AUGUST 8- THE QUIT INDIA DAY

Indian history plays a very crucial role in several developments and changes that have laid the foundation to the current scenario we are in today. We have several important dates in our calendar devoted to the biggest struggles our people fought to free our nation from the intruders. We all know about the Independence day, the republic day and certain other days when our freedom fighters were born or when they died fighting but out of these there are dates when our struggle to independence was initiated and one of them is the QUIT INDIA DAY.

The Quit India Movement is also known as the “August Movement” and the “Leave India Movement”. This movement was launched at the Bombay session of All-India Congress Committee led by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8,1942, during the World War II, which was done to end the British rule in India and was supported by Jawaharlal Nehru and many other leaders.

Recently, last year we have completed 78 years of this Quit India Movement on August 8, 2020.

WHY IS QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT IMPORTANT?

Well, before answering this question I would like you to just imagine yourself being locked in a room in your own house by some strangers who want to occupy your house and want you to do slavery for them. Somewhat relatable to what happened in the past to our country and to the people. Mahatma Gandhi gave the call for the public to join hands and end the British rule and thus he initiated this movement with the slogan “DO OR DIE“(karo ya maro) at the Gowalia Tank Maidan, which is now popularly known as the “AUGUST KRANTI MAIDAN”. It makes us very proud to turn back the pages of History and see that even though women have always been suppressed in our society yet they somehow managed to make their contribution towards the Independence of our country wherever they could find an opportunity. Aruna Asaf Ali popularly known as the “Grand Old Lady” of the Independence movement hoisted the Indian Flag at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai during this movement. The slogan “QUIT INDIA” was given by Yusuf Meherally who was a socialist, a trade unionist and also served as a Mayor of Mumbai. He also coined the slogan “SIMON GO BACK”.

WHAT WERE THE CAUSES FOR THIS MOVEMENT?

The immediate cause for this movement can be taken to be the British assumption of unconditional support from India to British in the World War II was not taken well by the Indian National Congress. Also the Anti- British sentiments and demand for full-Independence had gained popularity among the Indian masses.

WHAT WERE THE DEMANDS OF THE QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT?

The demand was very clear with the struggle every Indian faced back then. They wanted to end the British Rule in India and form a provisional government after the withdrawal of Britishers.

OUTCOMES OF THIS MOVEMENT

This movement was violently suppressed by the British Rulers- people were shot dead, lathi-charged, heavy fines were imposed on them and were forced to pay, villages were burnt around. While the Quit India Movement was crushed in 1944, with the British refusing to grant immediate Independence, they came to this important realization that India was ungovernable in the long run due to the cost of World War II. It changed the nature of political negotiations, paving way for Independence.

Works of Lord Alfred tennyson in a nutshell

Lord Alfred Tennyson (1809-92)

Tennyson was the most representative Victorian and was also the most popular poet of his age. He won the Chancellor’s prize at Cambridge in 1829 for a poem on Timbuctoo. In 1930 his Poems, Chiefly Lyrical was published. The publication of his two volumes of poetry under the title Poems in 1942 proved Tennyson’s worth. The collection consisted of poems like Locksley Hall, Break Break Break, Ulysses, and also a renewed version of The Lady of Shalott. In 1850 Tennyson’s In Memoriam raised his stature as a poet and won him a unique place in the world of Victorian poetry. Some of his memorable works include Maud and Other Poems, Idylls of the king, Enoch Arden, Ballads and Other Poems, The Lotos Eater, The Palace of Art, and Tithonus.

The most striking feature of Tennyson’s poetry is his ability to create word pictures. His true merit lies in his genius as a craftsman. Metre, rhythm, and sound effects are all turned into the mood. He uses rhetorical devices such as assonance, onomatopoeia, and alliteration to intensify the sensuousness. In the Choric Song he uses long drawn-out vowel sounds like ‘soon’, ‘afternoon’, ‘swoon’, and ‘moon’.

Tennyson was drawn to legendary themes and nature, but from 1942 he seemed drawn towards social and political themes. In The Princess, he dealt with the higher education of women. Ulysses, the hero of his dramatic monologue Ulysses with his passion for exploring is often said to represent the Victorian thirst for knowledge and for going beyond boundaries known to man. Tennyson’s Locksley Hall is full of the free spirit of young England and its faith in science, commerce, and the progress of mankind.

Tennyson does not belong to the galaxy of the great, but when it comes to lyricism, artistry, and workmanship he is simply irreplaceable. Tennyson lacked originality and depth. He was content capturing feelings and aspirations of his time. His last poems contain harsher notes as if he had become disillusioned and discontent with the pleasant artifices that had graced his prime due to age.

Mahabharata lessons

Learning

T

Mahabharat is one of the major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being Ramayana.

The story is the biggest war in the world, the god of all wars. Then what is it about?

There are various lessons which were thought to us by this ancient epic. Mahabharata involves the story of the two brothers Dhritrastra sons and Pandu’s sons the rivalry between them which took turn after turn.

The few lessons which this epic taught us are: –

  • Skills and ability to gain knowledge are not based on one’s birth.

Karna upbringing was made in the low caste/category class (which did not have the right to many things which include gaining knowledge) but in order to gain knowledge though which was his desire he challenged the norms of the society and gained knowledge and turned him out to be warrior.

  • Proper knowledge and education require discipline.

There is no knowledge which you get over night you must be disciplined about it. Consistently practicing improving yourself in you desired field like Arjuna did when he was in Gurukul(school) he initially find it difficult to aim perfectly while continuously challenging himself.

  • Follow the right.

Though Karna was a wise and educated person he was on the side of Duryodhana he was his friend, he did not oppose him in his bad discission which resulted in his involvement because he kept quite he too got involved in all the bad works he did.

  • One should not take immediate action under pressure or circumstances.

The time when Bhisma(Shantanu and ganga son), because of his father happiness took the steps like not taking up on the throne which was a not good decision. So one should not take decision on current circumstances.

  • One should stand for other.

When someone is in danger, we should stand for others right. When some is getting suppress under others power, we should stand for the needy one.

When Duryodhana ordered Dushashan to take off Draupadi clothes in the assembly the king (father of Duryodhan) should has stopped him.

  • Nobody should harm other for their revenge.

Duryodhana always wanted to take revenge on the Pandavas on various situations. He did various bad things to get his revenge and one such was when he wanted to get revenge on why he was asked to take off his weapons in assembly of pandavas he took revenge by taking off The pandavas wife clothes in his father’s assembly.

  • Karma comes back and takes away.

Whatever deed you did either good or bad comes back to you in return. Duryodhana always did bad deeds, so he was punished very intensely. There are various examples too.

We all should learn from this epic mythology it teaches us way more than just these few points. Once we will get more into this we will become or find a better version of ourselves we would we able to distinguish what is right and what is wrong So we will meet up in the next part of this.

NOTA JUDGMENT 2013

INTRODUCTION

The option to cast an election has been an idea which has been joined as a key right of a person. In the prior periods this right was just vested in people of a specific class. In certain social orders, the option to cast a ballot was just vested with people and needed to confront a long battle before they were likewise permitted to cast a survey in open decisions or appointment of some other nature.

In India during the British guideline when self-administration was acquainted the right with vote was vested uniquely with individuals who had a place with a specific class and just with time and a long battle for opportunity was the idea of grown-up testimonial for example, the right vote was given to people similarly, proficient and ignorant similarly by the selection of the Indian constitution.

Notwithstanding, another measurement came into the political circle when an inquiry was mooted that whether there will be a right not to decide in favour of any of the applicants who were challenging the races and the decision stayed a mystery. This is the measurement that was investigated by the Supreme Court of India in the moment milestone judgment.

ADR and National Election Watch (NEW) have examined the quantity of votes got by NOTA in different decisions since 2013. The total report in English and the Executive Summary in Hindi and Kannada are connected herewith.

NOTA (None of the abovementioned) was presented in India through the Supreme Court’s judgment dated 27th September 2013 in WP (C) No. 161 of 2004, (People’s Union for Civil Liberties and another Vs. the Union of India and another). The SC guided the Election Commission to make essential arrangement in the voting form papers/EVMs and give a catch to ‘Nothing unless there are other options’ (NOTA) in EVMs so the citizens who go to the surveying stall and choose not to decide in favor of any of the competitors in the quarrel, can practice their right not to cast a ballot while keeping up their right to mystery. The arrangement of NOTA button was first executed in the State Assembly Elections of Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh in 2013. ADR and National Election Watch (NEW) have dissected the quantity of votes got by NOTA in different decisions since 2013.

FACTS

PUCL, a social freedoms NGO, archived a writ offer under Article 32 of the Constitution, testing the consecrated authenticity of Rules 41(2) and (3), Section 33B of the Representation of People Act, and 49-O of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 communicating that these plans abuse the mystery of casting a vote which is vital for the free and sensible races and is needed to be kept up as per Section 128 of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951 and Rules 39 and 49-M of the Rules.

The sacrosanct authenticity of Rules 41(2), (3) and 49-O of the Rules of 1961, was condemned. The combined effect of these standards was that individuals who didn’t project a voting form in choices were recorded (by the overseeing official) as having not cast a voting form. The candidates battled this as an encroachment to one side to secret balloting, guaranteed by Articles 19(1) (a) and 21 of the Constitution.

In the above background, the applicants thus appealed to God for pronouncing Rules 41(2) and (3) and 49O of the Rules ultra vires and illegal and furthermore petitioned God for a course to the Election Commission of India, to give fundamental arrangement in the polling form papers just as in the electronic democratic machines for the assurance of the right of not to cast a ballot to stay quiet about the activity of such right under the current RP Act/the Rules or Article 324 of the Constitution.

Issues –

  • The essential issue was that whether rule 41(2) and (3) and 49-O of the guidelines disregard the mystery of casting a ballot which is major to the free and reasonable decisions and is needed to be kept up according to Sec 128 of the Representations of the People Act1951 and rules 39 and 49-M of the standards.
  • Whether a writ can be given for a situation managing a legal right of casting a ballot?
  • Whether the choice set down in Kuldip Nayar in regards to right of a citizen should be returned to and whether the two decisions Association for majority rule changes’ and PUCL stands overruled?
  • Whether the standards 41(2) (3) and 49 O of direct political decision rules1961 disregard the principal privileges of the citizen?

SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT ON NOTA 2013

For the situation under investigation, the Supreme Court of India said, that they direct the Election Commission to give crucial game plan in the democratic structure papers/EVMs and another catch called “Nothing except if there are different alternatives” (NOTA) may be given in EVMs so the citizens, who go to the studying corner and decide not to rule for any of the up-and-comers in the battle, can rehearse their advantage not to project a voting form while keeping up their advantage of mystery. The Supreme Court additionally saw that it is fundamental that individuals of high good and moral qualities are picked as individuals’ agents for appropriate administration of the country, and furthermore be assigned for genuine organization of the country and accordingly, NOTA catch can urge ideological groups to designate a sound applicant.

Overview

NOTA has been depicted as the developing of India’s majority rules system. One sort of assessment is that the reason and benefit of NOTA have been crushed as the victor will be the competitor who gets the second-most elevated number of votes, regardless of whether NOTA gets the most noteworthy number of votes. Henceforth, “NOTA is a positive advance”, while “it doesn’t go far enough”. NOTA is considered a “misuse of vote”, “only restorative”, “an emblematic instrument to communicate hatred”, electors communicating their “upsetting with the current political framework” and potentially “a simple design”.

“A few groups contend that the execution of NOTA will drive up political decision costs. Be that as it may, a spoiled applicant who enjoys debasement and acts of neglect is a more noteworthy expense for the country. It is just the longing to proceed in influence and the insatiability for cash that take unmistakable quality over qualities.”

Unnamed Relation

As we know that every person is related to each other in some way or the other. Whether it is a relationship of friendship, parents, siblings, and many more.

But there are some relations which have no name. Yet,they connected, they communicated.

He may remains anonymous throughout his life. But still they exist forever and become so important. When we are in any nameless relationship. They live every moment  with  wholeheartedly, but at the same time there is also the fear of losing . Our heart is in dilemma of the scariest thing of distance whether this diversion would erase all beautiful memories or will they be alive in the core of their hearts.

No one knows their limits in this relationship. We just keep on flowing like a stream of water. This is all life and fate so we have to breathe, belief, hold on and let go off the things with their own pace just to see what happens next.

Even though relationship is unnamed and we don’t know what we are for each other? But we still inside know the name of this unnamed relationship and know what she is for you and you are for her.

In India we call such a relationship as-

‘Rab ne banadi Jodi’ meaning ‘The God made bond’.

Animal abuse

Overview
Animal Cruelty also called animal abuse, cruelty to animals or animal neglect is a range of behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to malicious killing. Intentional cruelty can run the gamut from knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, shelter, socialization, or veterinary care to maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing an animal. They face a lot of mishappenings and still they fight for themselves. There is no humanity left within human beings. They act Insane. They do not pity the animals. The way animals are treated is just so pathetic and disturbing. For no reason, they are beaten up, they are being raped, and they are were killed then. Many suffer through this daily, and in the end, they give up and lose their lives.
The animals whose abuse is most often reported are dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. Undercover investigations have revealed that animal abuse abounds in the factory farm industry. But because of the weak protections afforded to livestock under state cruelty laws, only the most shocking cases are reported, and few are ever prosecuted.
What our role was, and what are we actually doing?
Instead of providing them love, care, and help we fail to even consider them living organisms. We disrespect them and make them feel that they are not part of society as living organisms.
In recent times, there has been a rise in the number of such cases. Cases have been reported from every part of India. There was a recent case from the streets of Ludhiana, where a dog was beaten to death by a security guard, the dog’s mistake was that he was less strong than human beings. He fought for his life for two days and he couldn’t survive after that. There is not just one case but a thousand no. Of cases, and some which we don’t even know. We see no action taken against the people who make animal abuse happen.
Statistics
Humans hurt, maimed, killed, and even raped almost 5 lakh animals between 2010 and 2020, according to the latest report on violence against animals in India.
The report, published by the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations (FIAPO) and All Creatures Great and Small (ACGS), says that in the said period a total of 4,93,910 animals became victims of crimes committed by humans.
The report says these include over 2,300 gruesome and intentional acts of violence that led to the animal’s death or irreparable harm.
As per the report, out of the 1,000-assault cases recorded against the animals, 82 cases were of sexual abuse, 266 cases of cold-blooded murder, and over 400 cases were of violent attacks of beating, kicking, torturing, throwing acid or boiling water, maiming a part of the body, attacking with a knife or a blunt object.
According to the report, the year 2019 saw the highest number of cases of crimes against animals (700 cases). Additionally, almost 4,230 dogs were killed by mass culling drives across the country in the past five years alone.
“Because they are animals, people tend to underplay the violence by calling it cruelty. But it’s more than cruelty. It’s physical abuse; it’s psychological abuse; it’s rape; it’s murder. Severe crimes against animals must be treated as a felony,” Varda Mehrotra, executive director, FIAPO, said.

CULTURE OF Bhutan: The World’s Happiest Country

It is hard to imagine that such a small country, the size of Indiana with the population of Alaska, tucked in the Himalaya Mountains, accessible only by two airplanes, is the “Happiest Country” in the world, the last standing Buddhist Kingdom and has one of the fastest growing GDP’s in the world. This country is Bhutan, “Land Of The Thunder Dragon.” Bhutan is located in South Asia and is landlocked between India, Tibet, China, and Nepal. In 2004, I lived in Bhutan for a month at the time the King was transitioning the government to a democracy. My father had been invited by the Chief Justice of Bhutan to help them write their judicial laws.

Bhutan is the last standing Buddhist Kingdom in the World and, until recently, has preserved much of their culture since the 17th century by avoiding globalization and staying isolated from the world. Bhutan only allows a certain number of foreigners into the country each year, and the two hundred dollars a day that must be paid by every traveler is a deterrent for many. Internet, television, and western dress were banned from the country up until ten years ago. But over the past ten years globalization has begun to change in Bhutan, but things remain perfectly balanced.

Bhutan is the only country in the world that has a ‘GNH.’ You may think GNH is just another statistically based term with no real life application, but it refers to “Gross National Happiness.” The process of measuring GNH began when Bhutan opened up to globalization. It measures people’s quality of life, and makes sure that “material and spiritual development happen together.” Bhutan has done an amazing job of finding this balance. Bhutan has continually been ranked as the happiest country in all of Asia, and the eighth Happiest Country in the world according to Business Week. In 2007, Bhutan had the second fastest growing GDP in the world, at the same time as maintaining their environment and cultural identity.

Bhutan is the only Buddhist Kingdom in the world; Mahayana Buddhism is the official religion of Bhutan. Over two thirds of the people are Buddhist, and Buddhism is supported by the government both politically and economically. The government gives subsidies to Buddhist monasteries, shrines, monks and other Buddhist programs. Buddhists also are very influential politically with a guaranteed voice in public policy. Bhutan has also made significant efforts to keep other major religions out of their country. Promoting Christianity and other major religions is not allowed in Bhutan. Even with globalization, Bhutan has been able to preserve their Buddhist traditions, and they remain the last standing Buddhist Kingdom.

Some call Bhutan the “Switzerland of Asia” because of its size, shape and location in the mountains. But as I flew into Bhutan, I realized that the mountains I saw out of the window of the tiny shaky plane were Mt. Everest and K2, the two highest mountains in the world. As soon as the plane touched down in Bhutan, the beautiful landscape overwhelmed me. Bhutan is a country of mountains and valleys, and the climate varies with elevation. The mountains are extremely cold and snowy, but it is humid and subtropical in the hills, and temperate in the valleys. Bhutan is not an easy country to travel through; traveling from one place to another usually involves passing over a mountain, on two way roads barley wide enough for one car with a thousand feet drop on both sides. Our car trips through Bhutan involved many stops for eating and site seeing, but also puking. The windy roads through the beautiful mountains and valleys were not always “beautiful.”

Bhutan has one of the stable ecosystems in the world and has virtually no environmental damage due to its long isolation. The restrictions on tourism and their protection of natural resources have let Bhutan preserve the beautiful landscape and physical country as well as their cultural identity.

In Bhutan, we were guests of the King and dinners consisted of traditional Bhutanese food, such as Yak Burgers but with a side of French Fries. One day, my mom took me to play basketball at the local court. Being the only foreigners there, we were the center of attention, but that did not stop the local boys from including us in their games. One boy who seemed to be everyone’s center of attention, who was very good at basketball, ended up making friends with me. He played basketball with us, and engaged in a friendly conversation. As we walked out the door, someone pulled us aside and told us the fellow who so kindly helped me with my basketball shot was the Prince of Bhutan. This was very telling to me – that the Prince of Bhutan would play basketball with kids at the local court, showing how Bhutan was still a small isolated world, where a Prince was safe to walk the streets and do as he pleased. And yet, it also showed how Bhutan was starting to more open to the influence of the wider world; the prince spoke perfect English and loved the American basketball.

In a world dominated by globalization, developing nations may benefit from globalization – economies made stronger, access to more advanced technology, better health care, but this all comes at a price. With globalization comes integrated western culture, loss of traditional languages, religions and ideas, and the destruction of many folk cultures worldwide. Though a developing country’s GDP might benefit from globalization, does its Gross National Happiness? In many cases, developing nations lose their cultures, origins, and way of life, languages, as well as natural resources to globalization. The society and culture, as well as the economy, become linked to the rest of the world and the ideas of the world flow into that country, often destroying culture. Is it worth giving up culture for a better economy? If all nations worldwide used a (GNH) to judge “the preservation and promotion of cultural values,” I think many people would judge globalization negatively.

Bhutan has found the perfect balance. In recent years, internet, cable television, cell phones, as well as many other modern technologies and ideas have become a part of Bhutan, but their desire to preserve of cultural values, as well as the desire to protect the environment has remained high. Bhutan’s economy and culture are growing and changing. Bhutan’s unique strategy has presented a solution to globalization. They are able to adapt to globalization, to strengthen their economy, while still preserving thousand year old traditions and culture. Bhutan is the only Buddhist Kingdom still in the world, and one where cell phones and cable television are present.

On Research: Practical Issues of Social Research

A properly planned research is necessary to collect data and analyse it. Framing a proper research plan does not always guarantee its smooth execution in practice. When it comes to social research, the practicalities of doing a research is different from the textual model. It is not possible to always adhere to the normative text. For example, text book model suggests not to collect data before planning(for surveys & experiments). However, it is not possible to follow this suggestion in long and complex projects. Text model suggests a linear procedure to conduct researches. However, this is an ideal way and cannot be followed always. The way of doing research in real world differs a lot from the normative approach. Practical alternatives for researching in real world include methods like garbage can model. This methods suggests a messy way of doing things or randomly following the combination of theory, method, resources, solutions etc. Research paper often does not represent the actual idea of research.

Access needs to be negotiated: It is important to have people supporting throughout the research. Research is a time consuming process, and it is necessary to allow time for it.  Friends, relatives, etc… can be used to gain access to data. When conducting researches, it is important to use alternative vocabulary for normal research terms according to different people. It is important to explain the work to people. It is important to negotiate with right people and prepare an outline of study. Formal request and discussion with gatekeepers about your study is important to gain access to data.  Another practical issue is to discuss the study with participants and that will help one to modify his study. It is advisable to use fully informed consent form(with all details regarding the study)

External vs Internal Access: Insiders have a prior knowledge about the organisation they are intending to study. They possess historical knowledge, political knowledge, about people in the organisation etc. It minimizes cost and burden as there is no travel. Insiders have the credibility among people in the organisation and that helps in collecting data. There are also disadvantages of insider access like additional burden of research to actual job. Insiders also have the problem of communicating freely with people in different order of hierarchy. Prior knowledge among people in the organization about the insider may hinder the conversation. Insider researches also face the problem of insider bias. It is difficult to maintain objectivity in such researches. The insider has to live with consequences in case of disappointing parties involved.

Other issues: Other practical issues include organizing(meetings, arranging equipments), piloting designs(for questionnaires aand surveys), working on one’s relationships etc. It is important to revisit the place in cases of inadequate data, mistakes etc. It is important to be prepared to modify the model and get some data(in case of not matching with model).

Writing Up Research

It is important that the study conducted takes the form of a write up. It is important to report the research to make it public. The format of research depends on nature and purpose(it has to be catered to the intended audience). Examples include scientific journal format, technical report(for a client), poster, pamphlet, press release etc. Other ways of reporting research incude alternative literary presentations like portrayal, adversarial, dialogue etc..(interesting to read). It is important to consider the needs of the project and formatting it accordingly. In all cases, it is important to adhere professional standards(grammar, spelling, layout, design).

Typical Scientific Journal Format

Each journal has a different format. For example, one journal follows the format of title, abstract(short summary of the project), introduction, methods, results, discussion, and bibliography. Introduction tells the need of the project and our current knowledge of the field. Method explains how the research was done. Result states the outcome of the study. Discussion section deals with the actual study done with research conclusion of the study. It is important to give references in the bibliography section. Language of such journals is in the impersonal, past tense and passive voice. However, some recent journals use active voice.

Tehcnical Report

In technical reports(for clients), it is important to conform to the expectations(imp. to. meet proffesional standards). It is advisable to refer to other good reports. This format requires an executive sumary(conveys more than an abstract). It is important to fill it with details(methods) in appendices. Revising the draft helps in rewriting and restructuring. This helps in the overall quality of the report. This process includes rereading and asking questions to oneself. Asking others(colleagues, students) for comments can help in this correcting errors.

Ethics of Doing Research

The purpose of doing a research is for better understanding of the world of we live in. A research has to be considering its benefits and harms. The basic ethics of research include involving people after getting their consent(random observation is an exception, informed consent is important not just mere consent), not coercing people into participation), not being redundant in informations etc. Other unethical activities include doing covert research(deceiving participants), inducing people to commit acts(degrading their self esteem), manipulating people’s behaviour(studies seeking individual change), putting people in risks(physical or mental), fair treatment of people, forcing people to participate even if they unwilling, withholding benefits from some people, not allowing them to act freely etc. Some of these ethics can be sacrificed to a certain extent in case of greater good. It is important to adhere to the codes of practice. People can be given benefits to balance the costs they incur.

Ethics of Publication

The legitimate expectation is that the findings get published. It is important to change the names of sources by using pseudonyms. It is important to consider this fact when giving the rights to a different publisher. Interests of the sponsors and gatekeepers before publishing.

STEPS TO STANDOUT IN AN INTERVIEW

“Why Fit in while you are born to stand out?”-Dr.Seuss.

“A job interview is not a test of your knowledge. But your ability to use it at the right time”.

Every one of us would have dreamt at least once in our mind about our first job, the day we get our first salary, fulfill all the desires which were on a wishlist for years. But how to get our first job is the question that haunts us the most. Some of us may even try to run away from this question by saying one or other excuses. However, unless we face the question, find an answer to it by embracing and rectifying the faults within we cannot move a step forward.

“Half of the things people do not succeed in are through fear of making the first attempt. “

The interview day can go as flat as a pancake when it’s started early and moves with a pre-planned schedule. The calmer you remain, the greater you achieve on that day. Once you reach the place of the interview, the bar of pressure on your mind will gradually tend to increase. Follow ways that can make you remain cool because even the slightest pressure on your mind can ruin your self-confidence. Never have a look a how the fellow candidates are preparing / how experienced they are. You are the best version of yourself.

You can distract yourself by observing the office and try to gather unique points about how its space is set up, what you like about the office etc. This might help you at the time of the interview for standing out. The first round of the interview in most of the Multi-National Companies would be a written exam where maximum filtration would be done. So pay attention to every question asked there. Spare the last ten minutes to recheck your answers.

In case if you have a Group Discussion / a face-to-face interview never be petrified by the panel members. They expect you to be honest and calm while you are answering. Both in case of group discussion and interviews play 2 roles – a listener followed by a speaker. Sometimes the panel members might ask questions that may mystify you. It’s a way to check how stable you remain irrespective of the external disturbances. When you are asked questions like “why do you want to join us?”, “why do you want to leave your current job/” think for a while before answering.

When asked about the company say things apart from what’s available on the internet ( like things you have observed before the start of the interview). This will attribute to your interest and attention skills. When you are given a chance to ask any questions or queries ask about the following:

  • work culture beyond what’s been shown on their websites,
  • About  the project, you will be assigned to,
  • Any other queries you have regarding the role or the company.

End up with a note thanking the panel members for the opportunity Best wishes for your job and interview.
