The small business community was among the first and the hardest to be hit by the covid-19 pandemic. Yet in the face of so much adversity, they demonstrated unfathomable resilience. These small business have used digital platforms like Instagram and Facebook to make a new start and grow through this particularly challenging time.
With small businesses forming 30% of the GDP, it is known that their revival will be critical to the economic recovery of India.
Nandan Nilekani, the non-executive chairman and co-founder of Infosys in his interview to fortune India stated that it had been a tough year for small business due to the pandemic. However, these problems notwithstanding, small businesses in India do have a bright future ahead. He continued to say that “I strongly believe that they are the engines of economic growth and job creation, and I believe they will have a very good future”
Hence, the rise of small businesses has just begun in India and it will not just define the country’s recovery from the pandemic but it will also shape the coming decade of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Nowadays, we tend to focus so much on our physical appearance and health that we forget to take care of our mental health. No doubt, if we do not eat good food and take proper rest, we may get ill but if we do not care about our thoughts, then also we may get ill. We are living in a world that is moving at a very fast pace and we all are messed up in our worlds. We have many problems nowadays like family problems, relationship problems, work stress, etc., and finding solutions to these problems is the only way we can live happily. All this can trouble a person so much that the person may find himself/herself depressed. We must speak about the problems and situations we are facing in our lives to our near and dear ones.

A person may look happy from the outside, but what’s going on inside that person matters more than what’s on the outside.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine the extent to which we can handle stress and make a healthy and happy life. Mental health is of utmost importance at every stage of life, be it childhood, adolescence, or adulthood. Mental and physical health are equally important for overall health. Mental illness, especially depression, increases the risk for many types of physical health problems, particularly long-lasting conditions like stroke, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Similarly, the presence of chronic conditions like cancer and diabetes can increase the risk for mental illness.

WHO defines Mental health as mental well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.

When we sense our physical health declining, we visit a doctor for a check-up. The doctor then performs some tests and the results are out in no time. If we have a fever or headache, we take medicines to recover from it. The medical field has advanced so much in the past few years that we have developed treatments and medicines for almost all types of physical health disorders. Why don’t we do the same if we sense our mental health declining? Why are we afraid to speak up about our mental problems. Speaking up about our mental health problems to your peers or family members is the only way you can find a solution. If you don’t reveal what is wrong with you, then you are only responsible for the decline of your health because mental illnesses like depression and schizophrenia can destroy the person from inside and others may never get to know about it. 75% of suicide cases occur due to this situation that people never open up about the problem they are facing, they get eaten up on the inside by the illness and when it crosses the red line, they do not find any good reason to live and give up on their life. Psychologists and Psychiatrists are the ones you need to visit if you sense your mental health declining, if you sense yourself in a lot of stress, eating less or more than you used to eat, sleeping more or less than you used to sleep, you see your daily functioning reduced as you are messed up in your own thoughts. There are stigmas associated with mental illness and people are discriminated against for it but if we keep these things to ourselves and not open up due to fear of stigmas and discrimination, it will be a big mistake. Illness means that something is not okay with us, be it physically or mentally. So, what is the problem with visiting a psychologist and consulting what is going on inside you? We all need to rise above the stigmas and open up about the mental illness we face. 

To every problem, there is a solution. But if we do not speak up, we may never know the right place or the right way to find the solution.

So, I urge everybody to speak up about their mental illness and not keep it to themselves.

Body shaming is the act of mocking someone’s physical appearance. This includes fat- shaming, height- shaming, shaming for thinness; also sometimes people are body-shamed for having less hair or hair colour , lack of masculinity ( in males) and lack of femininity ( in females).

If a person whether a male or a female is overweight or obese then they are body-shamed for their fats present in the body. Sometimes this segment becomes a little controversial that if the person is suffering from obesity then why don’t they do regular exercise and follow regular diet; which is quite right to say. But there are also some people who have some kind of problem because of which no matter what the do or follow strict diet a little bit of eating can also make them fat. It is seen that sometimes the overweight people eat less than the normal people and till now nothing such conclusion has been made to this situation.

Suppose if a fat girl wears a tight fitting dress which projects her belly fat as if coming out of the body, people stars mocking her and saying abusive things for that. They starts telling her ugly and all these things makes her insecure about her physical appearance and sometimes this may lead to a serious condition of depression. The people who laughed at her said abusive words to her , could have gently told her not to wear such tight fitting clothes instead wear some losses beautiful clothes so that she can look more pretty.

Not only the obese people, the thin people are also body- shamed. They are said that “you are so thin that you will get carried away with the air”. People tell them that they don’t have any stamina or strength because they are so thin and don’t have much muscles. Instead of saying things like them they could have said that eat some protein rich foods and do some exercises for building up muscles.

If a boy is a little short then he is treated very ill in the society. Our society has the notion that boys should be tall enough to fit in the category of so called “perfect”. No matter what is their age people always calls them as “little”, “dwarf”. This effects a lot to the mental state of the boy and his self- esteem is totally destroyed. Sometimes if a boy is too tall then also people mocks him by making him as “pillar”. Instead of saying these kind of things people should encourage them as the way they are.

If a girl has some masculine features in her body let’s say for example, has some thin facial hairs or hairs around the upper lip then they are mocked by their friends as a boy. On the other hand if a boy don’t have much facial hair then they are laughed at and regarded as a girl.

Our society has a pre occupied notion that a perfect body for a girl is that the girl has to be slim, she should not have any masculine features and she should not be much tall. While for the boys, they should be tall and should have much facial and hair growth in their body.

This lowers the self esteem of such people who are the victims of body shaming. Instead of shaming them for their physical appearances we should stand with them and encourage them to be with themselves in the way they are!

ACCEPTANCE

Get ready to live in reality, not in real life! what does that mean? This means that anyone you meet and discover that you are an entrepreneur will say the same thing to you, “You should get a job, just to be safe.” Shouldn’t you graduate from school? The first one? You are not Zuckerberg. “(The worst person)” What would your relatives think of you? and many more. Stop arguing with them. These people think throughout their lives that if they do what others tell them, they will be happy, or at least realize their dreams. They have to learn from their own painful experience that everything is a lie.

Remove them from your life. Don’t tell these people after the first few phone calls. They will find a way to keep it to a minimum and insist that you stop reality and become pragmatic (so you may end up being as unhappy as they are). Forgive them. Few people have the spiritual and emotional power to implement entrepreneurship. Even those who do this will still collapse due to failure. Working on weekdays, drinking on weekends, getting up early on Monday morning, and continuing to do this over and over again is your only choice.


Always believe in your opinion.

You will not be a professional businessman, in the beginning, so you may do a lot of crazy things and create jobs according to your dreams. On other days, you wait for an answer to an annoying problem, and then “suddenly” find a solution. These two situations have one thing in common: intuition. You can limit the time spent on preparation or try to complete the task as quickly as possible. You can also set the rewards you get after completing tasks or parts of tasks.

How do you keep up with challenging tasks?

Does this Pandemic could co-exist with Good Education ?

The answer is: YES!

It has been quite a salacious topic as to how everyone who studied in a Zoom class is nothing but suffering. But are we really? Teacher’s who aimed at delivering their best and optimising the tools they had over the course of this year have certainly made this experience memorable. Graduating batch of 2021, what a load of expectations we had carried upon us, planned to do all the fun stuffs, even study, because its important but the situation didn’t clearly permit such flexible ideas to help nurture. However, we were able to still get-out-of-the-rut that the University’s put us in with just End Semester Exams, an extremely futile practice, and we were suddenly, introduced to a more integrated system, with Assessments throughout the course of semester.

Seems like a big task when first introduced, but now standing at the end of the tunnel and looking back, it was the best thing to shape us, our personality, as well as give us a glimpse of what a true education,  which is not just inclusive but better in terms of helping understanding the Course as well as giving the students the autonomy to act upon their discretion and prove themselves looks like. Heavy, but ’tis not, some may say it’s ‘toxic’ that the ‘pressure of submissions gets too unbearable’ but if contemplated upon the same, we came out better than a lot of our previous batches, a fresh start — a new page to the system of passive education we are unapologetically fed.

For years, there have been discussion on the pros and cons of examination, consisting at least 80% of a students grade; a cemented archetype that made sense to some, but was shattering to the student itself, and unequivocally created nothing short of unhealthy standards and competition with its tendency to be an open exhibition, but having given 50-50 opportunity to have multiple assessments alongside a small examination gave us the chance to prove ourselves, apply the theory we understood, and what’s not good about this entire method of testing, grading, and evaluating a student? So, the pandemic, gave me a new outlook, a more desirable way to pursue education whilst in India, and instilled a hope to prove myself as a better student by the work I submit, also inculcate qualities to work on deadline, and meet new challenges. So, can’t we receive such opportunities with nothing but welcoming arms?

An organizational psychologist says one of the reasons might be because when we elect our leaders we can’t discern between these two words: confidence and competence. A lot of people right now in leadership are people who have fooled others that they are better than they actually are. And this is not because they are very manipulative but mostly because they fooled themselves too.  I’m pretty sure you have worked with people who think they are really good at something, when they’re actually not. Also, statistically,they are more likely to be male than female.Men are typically more deceived about their talents than women are. So there’s a sexism converstion here which I won’t be discussing since we don’t have time but the catch is that they are also  more likely to succeed in their careers. So being unaware of your limitations increases your probability of being a boss.

But why did our society start functioning like this ? It’s us.

When we comes to leaders, we tend to gravitate towards leaders who are charismatic and charming We prefer our leaders to be  charismatic and  fascinating.But in reality, the best leaders are humble rather than charismatic,to the point of even being rather boring.This is why they rarely feature in the media or blockbuster movies.If we want to improve the performance of our leaders,we should start by focusing on the right traits.Instead of falling for people who are confident, narcissistic .We should promote people into leadership because of their competence, humility and integrity. Leaderships should be judged on traits like accountability, empathy. Are they able to convey their message to their team, can they keep a team motivated?

Yes,if they are very charming, give groundbreaking speeches and sweep you off your feet,  good. But that alone should not be the criteria of choosing a leader. Look at Elon Musk, that guy can’t speak four sentences without stammering yet he has been successfully leading one of the biggest companies. And anyway we don’t have a good history with  people having over the top speaking skills!

What is Discrimination?
People in India are discriminated against based on caste, religion, sex, color, and whatnot. Some people hear so much from a society that they cannot survive or come out of it.
It has been seen in different places on different accounts.
I have seen in my school where one of my friends was discriminated against based on color. She wasn’t provided with equal opportunities like us. Even fellow students treated her as if she is not normal like us. They used to talk about her, about her family.
People are discriminated against on different terms, whether caste, religion, gender, or whatnot? They just need something to discriminate against others. During the British rule Indians were discriminated against. They were not treated equally, all of their rights were taken away.
Stress and Health
Discrimination is a public health issue. According to the 2015 Stress in America Survey, people who say they have faced discrimination rate their stress levels higher, on average, than those who say they have not experienced discrimination. That’s true across racial and ethnic groups.
Chronic stress can lead to a wide variety of physical and mental health problems. Indeed, perceived discrimination has been linked to issues including anxiety, depression, obesity, high blood pressure, and substance abuse.1
Discrimination can be damaging even if you haven’t been the target of overt acts of bias. Regardless of your personal experiences, it can be stressful just being a member of a group that is often discriminated against, such as racial minorities or individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT).
Who are the most vulnerable to discrimination?
Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians, Transgenders, People living under Minority, Lower class, and Backward classes people are most vulnerable to discrimination.
What do we need to do?
People who are dark in complexion are beautiful too. Who says they aren’t? And most importantly, who gives them the right to speak unnecessarily about anyone.
Actually, we are the only one who permits and allows them. If we start taking our stands against this, we start taking actions, we start raising our voice no one would be able to speak about us unnecessarily.
No one will even think about saying bad things about everyone.
Discrimination, big, and small
Laws are in place to protect people from discrimination in housing and employment.
The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability. The Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination in employment based on race, color, sex, ethnic origin, age, and disabilities.
Unfortunately, discrimination still occurs. According to Stress in America Survey results, issues related to employment are the most commonly reported experiences of major discrimination across ethnic groups.
Dealing with discrimination
Finding healthy ways to deal with discrimination is important, for your physical health and your mental well-being.
Focus on your strengths. Focusing on your core values, beliefs, and perceived strengths can motivate people to succeed, and may even buffer the negative effects of bias. Overcoming hardship can also make people more resilient and better able to face future challenges.
Seek support systems. One problem with discrimination is that people can internalize others’ negative beliefs, even when they’re false. You may start to believe you’re not good enough. But family and friends can remind you of your worth and help you reframe those faulty beliefs.
Family and friends can also help counteract the toll that microaggressions and other examples of daily discrimination can take. In a world that regularly invalidates your experiences and feelings, members of your support network can reassure you that you’re not imagining those experiences of discrimination. Still, it’s sometimes painful to talk about discrimination. It can be helpful to ask friends and family how they handle such events.

Your family and friends can also be helpful if you feel you’ve been the victim of discrimination in areas such as housing, employment, or education. Often, people don’t report such experiences to agencies or supervisors. I lack reporting because people often doubt themselves: Was I actually discriminated against, or am I being oversensitive? Will I be judged negatively if I push the issue? Your support network can provide a reality check and a sounding board to help you decide if your claims are valid and worth pursuing.
Get involved. Support doesn’t have to come from people in your family or circle of friends. You can get involved with like-minded groups and organizations, whether locally or online. It can help to know other people have had similar experiences to yours. And connecting with those people might help you figure out how to address situations and respond to experiences of discrimination in ways you haven’t thought of.
