GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN INDIA

Gender discrimination is the inconsistent or disadvantageous treatment on someone because they belong to a specific gender. It is normally the women who need to face such gender discrimination.

Gender difference actually exists in India. Being brought into the world as ladies in Indian culture, one needs to confront gender discrimination at all levels. At the family level, females are restricted to their household work, bringing up youngsters and taking care of families, independent of their schooling degrees or occupation profile. At her work environment: ladies have restricted admittance to job opportunities and are paid less for a similar work.

Training and learning open doors: gender-wise education rates in India represent the wide gap among people. According to 2011 census information, effective literacy rates (age 7 or more) were 82.14% for men and 65.46% for ladies. Parents in India are not willing to spend money on the education of girls on the grounds that educated ladies is of no worth as they will just serve their spouses and the parents in law later on. The Indian constitution gives equivalent freedoms and privileges to all kinds of people, however most ladies across India despise these privileges and potential ensured to them.

CAUSES OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION

Poverty: This is the main factor of gender discrimination in the male dominating society, as the financial reliance on the male partner is itself a reason for gender discrimination. An aggregate of 30% of individuals live underneath the poverty line, and out of this 70% are ladies.

Illiteracy: Gender discrimination In India had prompted educational backwardness for young ladies. It’s a pitiful reality that regardless of educational changes in the country, young ladies in India are still denied to learn. The attitude should be changed, and individuals need to comprehend the advantages of teaching young ladies. An informed, very much perused lady guarantees that different individuals, particularly the offspring of the house, get quality schooling.

Patriarchal setup in our Indian society: Men dominate cultural and everyday life in India. This has been the situation in the past ages and keeps on being drilled in most of the families. However, this attitude is changing with urbanization and education, there is yet long way for the situation to change permanently.

Social Customs, Beliefs and Practices: Until now, majority of families have an inclination for a male youngster and disgrace towards the little girl. Children, particularly in the business networks, are viewed as financial, political, and ceremonial resources where girls are viewed as liabilities.

Lack of Awareness Among Women –A large portion of the ladies know nothing about their fundamental privileges and abilities. They miss the mark on essential comprehension of how the financial and political powers influence them. They accept all prejudicial practices that exist in families from age for the sake of custom and cultural standards, basically because of their lack of awareness and ignorance.

Gender-based discrimination across India can only be checked when young ladies are not denied their opportunity to learn and grow.

OVERCOMING GENDER DISCRIMINATION

  • Promoting human rights by supporting media events for girl child.
  • Complaining to police if we witness any sex determination test.
  • By making a severe move against gender discrimination.
  • Creating awareness for gender equality in our villages, cities, nearby areas, society etc.

STATUS OF WOMEN IN INDIA

The situation with women in India has been dependent upon many changes over the range of recorded Indian history. Their situation in the public arena disintegrated early in India’s ancient period, particularly in the Indo-Aryan talking regions, and their subjection kept on being reified a way into India’s initial current period.

  • EDUCATION

India’s poverty is one of the fundamental explanations behind low education among ladies. Just 13% of farm is claimed by ladies across India, in any case, this figure is exceptionally low with regards to Dalit ladies in India. Around 41% ladies in India make their living by physical work.

Being a non- earning member, it further grows women’s weakness and expands women reliability on their male partners.

India is positioned 105 among 128 nations in its Education for All Development Index. Among SAARC countries, India stands third behind Sri Lanka, and Maldives. India actually has one of the least female education rates in Asia. According to the India’s last enumeration in 2011, the female education remains at 65.46% contrasted with 82.14% of males. Estimates show that for each 100 young ladies in rural India just a single girl arrives at class 12 and practically 40% of young ladies leave school even prior arriving in fifth standard.

LABOUR FORCE

Women’s cooperation in the force is very low, and has been falling in the course of the most recent couple of years. The female to male proportion is just 0.36. This is deteriorated by absence of decisions that ladies need to take part in paid business related to work type and area, patriarchal gender norms, and the excessive burden of neglected consideration work that ladies bear.

GENDER WAGE GAP

The wage gap between Indian male and female is among the most exceedingly awful in the world, a report by international confederation of charitable associations, Oxfam, said. The Monster pay Index (MSI) says, Indian men earn 25% more than women in a similar sort of work done by all kinds of people. The normal orientation gap is 38.2%. Not only that, Accenture research says that the gender gap in India is pretty much as high as 67%. Over 47% of ladies in India are associated with Agriculture related works, but the wage gap is inconceivable, in view of non-uniformity in areas, which is the same for other unorganized sectors in India.

WORK AND LIFE BALANCE

There is as yet the obligation assigned to women of being liable for care in their home and the need to earn money to keep up with their families.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Given to India’s male dominating society, aggressive behavior at home remains as socially acknowledged due to social and strict reasons. In a study with young men and women in India, 57% of young men and 53% young ladies accept beating by spouses is acceptable. In one more ongoing overview between 2015-2016, it uncovered, 80% of working ladies experience abusive behavior at home because of their spouses.

WOMEN IN MEDIA AND SPORTS

Gender discrimination by all accounts assume a significant part with regards to the selection of stories for printing or announcing in Media in India. The Global Media Monitoring Project 2015 has found that just 37% of all accounts, remembering for papers and TV, were accounted by women. This was a similar figure 10 years prior. On the web, nonetheless, ladies’ portrayal was 42%. Inside the Asia-Pacific locale, ladies correspondents contain just 28.6%, as per the International Federation of Journalists.

One of the reasons is that Gender predisposition keeps holding back sports talent in India particularly in bigger stage. Be it any games in India, political help and financial foundation play important part in acquiring a birth in any sport event.  Taking the national awards, less than one in 25 women got Dronacharya awards over the years, while one fourth of Arjuna awards were granted to women.

As Diana David, cricketer quotes: “Men are certainly treated better compared to ladies in cricket. For each Ranji game, we are paid pretty much nothing, maybe 10% of what the men would get. The majority of us keep on playing just for the love of the game.”

Overthinking: Road to Self’s Destruction

If we were to name any one thing or precisely one habit which is present in the major portion of people in our society, it would be the habit of overthinking. It is also called as rumination, which means thinking obsessively about a particular thought or theme that in turn interfere with the other forms of the mental activity. It is a common feature of the “obsessive compulsive disorder” and “generalized anxiety disorder”. It means that when we dwell ourselves repetitively over the same thought and the same situation over and over unless it causes anxiousness.

It is often said that when a person overthinks, he is unable to concentrate on anything be it studies or anything of relevance. His focus is not present there and this is because that thought occupies his mind so strongly that he is unable to think anything else. He is so delved in that situation that even if he tries to come out from that very place, it will worsen the situation.

The official mark of the overthinking is that it is unproductive. It is nowhere useful in building any personality trait or behavior. It just strangles the current personality of the person involving so many disorders. It just disturbs the mental functioning of the person. Thinking over the same decision and situation for hours and hours by ignoring the sleep and missing on the deadline is not something construction to a person’s life. It is not same as the stress and worry because that lasts for a short span of time but overthinking makes a person feel stuck where he is unable to act or take up any action. It is really very unhealthy for an individual.

The root cause for overthinking is that we try everything to be perfect. We want that everything to be in our full control because that is what will make us confident. And for that we analyze everything so deeply that it captures our whole mind. It occupies its place so effectively that there is no place for some other thought. It is also ironic that after overthinking we are unable to take up any action regarding that. Whenever a solution pops up, another worry question comes in the mind and the cycle continues. Later, we end up doing nothing.

All this while overthinking is considered as bad, unhealthy and much more but the question which pops up in everybody’s mind after reading it is, Is it a disorder? The answer is Yes. It is a mental disorder. It is associated with other mental health conditions like:
a) Depression
b) Anxiety Disorders
c) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
d) Post traumatic Stress Disorder

Lastly, I want to conclude with my opinion that overthinking destroys our mental health. It also disturbs a person emotionally. In a nutshell, it creates a situation of imbalance in the body which can take a good amount to recover. So, to keep away from this kind of disorder, the individual should be always ready to challenge his thoughts. The reaction should be so strong that whenever any thought or situation tries to capture his mind or make him anxious, the person is ready to challenge it.

The Flow Of Words

Today, I am not going to write a quote, nor am I going to speak about issues, problems, and the need for change. This article is going to be something entirely different and the one I hope that connects with all people reading my article out there like it has been doing constantly. My article is going to be about the joy, beauty, and satisfaction of writing an article. As I said, something that is out of the box. This is an experience that everyone needs to have at least once in their lifetime.

Something that I have learned over the process is that if you are writing an article you do not necessarily have to publish it for the world to read. It can be a very personal thing and that will still be an article. The reason I am calling it an article and not diary writing is because a diary is very you put your feeling, emotions, and happenings of your life into paper. However, article writing is channelizing your thoughts, feelings, and emotions to things happening around you and using words to put out your opinions and perspective into it.

If you think, your article is not going to make a difference you are wrong. Every small thing that we do has an impact not just on ourselves but also on the people living around us. I would want all my readers to remember that if you are writing an article and putting it out in the public, which makes you think that it will not make a difference or an impact then it is high time you think otherwise. When you do the job of writing an article with all your might and hard work then the article will do its job and does not necessarily be out for the public.

Writing an article is not the only thing that one can do. There is so much more than that everyone can explore and bring themselves out with their amazing talent and art. We cannot please everyone on this planet nevertheless what we surely can do is please ourselves with our work and talents. The other thing that I would like to tell my readers is that when we are writing and we write for ourselves rather than thinking about other things, it often brings the best out of us, sometimes beyond our expectation and that is the magic and power of words.

Factors that make writing an article a joy

So many factors make writing an article a joy. The factors that I am going to mention are the ones that are always the ones that make me want to keep up with my writing abilities as much as I can.

Learning something new: One of the most important things that keep me going and writing as much as I can is because I always learn something new. Even though I am aware of that topic, there are so many nuances that I learn every time I about topics I am already aware of. Apart from that, new topics give me so much information about things that are happening which makes me more aware and knowledgeable that it brings about a sense of satisfaction about myself.

Makes me more aware of my society, surrounding, environment: I used to think every day about what is my article going to be about today. To find an answer to that I made sure to see things happening around me small or big. Things that are often brushed off. Social media usage helped me read so many things that exist in a society, which was good and bad. Writing an article every day about something relevant to society made me more alert and brought about so many different opinions and perspectives about things for me.

A sense of responsibility: When we know that the things we write and the things we feel play an impact, at least to some extent we become more responsible while writing our articles. This sense of responsibility made me write about topics that cover different issues that exist in society and the urge to be responsible in some way to bring about change that is much required. I believe when people read my article it should create an impact on them. Therefore, I should write with complete responsibility so that a positive impact and effect can be seen in the readers.

A major self-impact: Writing articles also comes from a place of it being able to create a positive impact on me. By writing articles, I feel much more confident, valued, respected, and have a sense of power about myself, which is the most fruitful thing for me. The best part is that it makes me feel good about myself, which matters so much in creating a positive and pleasing environment for me.

The rush of my thoughts, opinions, and imagination: This happens to me every time I think of a topic and it is the best part of writing an article for me. My thoughts, opinions, perspectives, and imagination all work together simultaneously and brings about an abundant amount of information to my head, and putting all of these down into words is what makes it so special for me. The amount of happiness I get by the flow of my words into the document is what makes my life interesting every day.

I can go on and on about several other factors that play an important role in making the process of writing an article a joy. However, bringing out each factor that brings out the beauty of writing an article for me spoils the essence. It is something I believe that people should experience on their own. Of course, some things might not be factor for me but will surely be a factor for someone else and that is completely okay. What is important is that factors should be important for you and should not be because of any external factor that is playing a role in it.

My article is not going to be very long today. It is not going to tell what one should do or how one should do things. It is because I believe everybody can write and every writing is beautiful as long as the writer loves their work

To conclude, writing an article is a beautiful journey. A journey that does not have good things in it but also bad things in it. These things might sometimes make you feel tired, however, it is only when you learn and overcome these bad things and emerge as a winner that truly makes this journey a beautiful one.
