Centre vs States On Coal Shortage Amid Fears Of Blackout Panic: 10 Points

Power Minister RK Singh said that the supply routinely drops during monsoon as the mines get flooded, but the demand remains high especially with the growing economy.

To the centre’s ‘All is well’ messaging over the coal situation in the country, several states have said that the crisis and concerns over power blackouts are real. Many Chief Ministers have written to PM Modi spotlighting the same.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has called out Power Minister RK Singh’s “sufficient” coal stock statement as “irresponsible”, adding the same thing was said during the oxygen shortage crisis in the capital during the COVID-19 second wave. “When we had an oxygen crisis, The coal situation is similar. We have a crisis today,” Mr Sisodia said.

A panic and been unnecessarily created about coal shortage and this is due to miscommunication from GAIL and Tata, Union Minister for Power RK Singh said. “We have sufficient power available… We are supplying power to the entire country. Whoever wants, give me a requisition and I will supply them,” he said.

The supply, Mr Singh said, routinely drops during monsoon as the mines get flooded, but the demand remains high especially with the growing economy.

California losing tech grip? Tesla’s move from Silicon Valley to Texas marks major blow

Elon Musk, Tesla’s co-founder and chief executive officer, pointed to some of California’s issues when he announced the move from Palo Alto to Austin. The company’s Fremont factory is jammed with workers and equipment, with little space to build around it.

California Governor Gavin Newsom frequently touts that his state is the leader in cutting-edge manufacturing and green technology. Now one of the most recognizable companies in those fields is taking its headquarters elsewhere.

Tesla Inc.’s move from Silicon Valley to Texas marks the latest blow for California, the electric-car maker’s home since its founding 18 years ago. It joins companies including Oracle Corp., Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co., and Charles Schwab Corp. in relocating their corporate hubs to the cheaper and more tax-friendly Lone Star state in the past two years.

They all are keeping a large presence in California, underscoring the importance of the world’s fifth-largest economy. But the shifts of companies born and bred in the state show how many of its intractable issues, from the nation’s most expensive housing costs to high taxes and climate catastrophes, pose a threat to continued economic growth if corporate departures multiply.

And losing Tesla — a long-shot, clean-energy startup that upended the auto industry and embodies much of the state’s economy — delivers a particularly symbolic hit.

Tesla as a brand represents not just Motor City USA, it represents Silicon Valley and Hollywood,” said David McCuan, chairman of Sonoma State University’s political science department. “Tesla is really a California-centric thing. But Elon Musk represents something larger than life, and that’s really Texas.”

Musk, Tesla’s co-founder and chief executive officer, pointed to some of California’s issues when he announced the move from Palo Alto to Austin. The company’s Fremont factory is jammed with workers and equipment, with little space to build around it.

The billionaire clashed with local public officials over lockdown policies during the pandemic. He defied local orders by restarting production at the plant. Musk said that Tesla isn’t leaving California and will continue to expand there – but he made clear that he saw more opportunity for growth in Texas.

It’s tough for people to afford houses and a lot of people have to come in from far away,” said Musk, who last year said he was moving to Texas himself. “There’s a limit to how big you can scale in the Bay Area.”

That region, in particular, has long been seen by companies as a difficult place to do business. Employers have had to offer ever more generous compensation so that workers can keep up with sky-high housing costs. Many workers have simply been priced out of living near their work, forcing them into long commutes before the pandemic.

California’s Association of Realtors forecast this week that the state’s median single-family home price will jump to a record $834,000 next year, more than twice the national level. The median sale price of homes in Santa Clara County — the heart of Silicon Valley – was $1.66 million in August, an almost 11% jump from a year earlier, according to the industry group.

Supreme Court Issues Guidelines On Granting Bail On Filing Of Charge Sheet

The requisite conditions include those not arrested during investigation, cooperated throughout in the probe including appearing before Investigating Officer whenever called, the Supreme Court said.

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court Thursday issued guidelines for granting bail after the filing of charge sheet and said trial courts are not precluded from granting interim relief considering the accused’s conduct during the probe.

A bench comprising Justices SK Kaul and MM Sundresh accepted the suggestions made by Additional Solicitor General S V Raju and senior advocate Sidharth Luthra on the issue.

The offences are put into four categories — A to D, and the guidelines have been laid down without fettering the discretion of the courts concerned and keeping in mind the statutory provisions, it said.

We are inclined to accept the guidelines and make them a part of the order of the Court for the benefit of the Courts below,” the bench said.

The category A offences include: a) Ordinary summons at the 1st instance/including permitting appearance through Lawyer; b) If such an accused does not appear despite service of summons, then Bailable Warrant for physical appearance may be issued; c) NBW on failure to failure to appear despite issuance of Bailable Warrant.

‘You’ll get opportunity to bid farewell to me’ – MS Dhoni announces venue of his possible last match as CSK player

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni’s future with the franchise remains unclear. Dhoni, who announced retirement from international cricket in 2020, has been struggling with the bat for the past two years, and at his age, there is a chance that he may be retiring from IPL as well as CSK player by the next season.

CSK have done better in IPL this season as compared to last, having already reached the playoffs as one of the two teams. But there are still doubts if Dhoni as captain continue to play for CSK next season, if he is unable to chip in with the bat.

Addressing his future, Dhoni announced the possible venue of his last match as a CSK player.

“When it comes to farewell, you can still come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there,” Dhoni said while interacting with fans during the 75th year celebrations of ‘India Cements’ held virtually.

We are a process-driven team, we believe in the process and we know that if we follow the process if we execute the plans well, if we do the small things right, we will get the desired result, we know the result is a byproduct and that also keeps us calm,” he added.

“We live in the moment and enjoy each other’s company. We know that if we play to our potential, we can beat the opposition. If the opposition has to beat us, they have to play better cricket.”

In a reply to a question about whether he would be interested in a career in a Bollywood after retirement from cricket, Dhoni said that it is not his cup of tea,

News agencies Reuters and AFP have confirmed that the outage is faced by users worldwide. The outage has impacted potentially tens of millions of users.

Candid Wüest, Acronis’s VP of Cyber Protection Research, said the outage may have happened due to issues with the BGP or DNS protocol.

“While there’s no confirmation on what caused the incident from Facebook Inc, it’s possible that the issue lies with the BGP or DNS protocol – which happen to be popular targets among cyber criminals…. Depending on what service is attacked – for example, if it’s a central authentication server shared between multiple brands, like in this case, then such a single outage can lead to multiple brands going offline. To be fair, we must note that most commonly such outages are caused by non-malicious actions – suspect it to be the case here too,” Wüest said in an email statement.

Space is full of surprises and wonders. The beauty is unparalleled and sometimes we come across such a beauty that we can’t help but be mesmerised and ascribe some meaning to the resplendent celestial structure.

Trust NASA to send such pictures our way! The space agency regularly posts photos it clicks via its social media channels. And on of its photos has us go gaga again.

The image is of ‘Hand of God’. The photo shows a golden structure on the background of deep black of the space that has arranged itself to resemble a hand. And it would have been surprising if this would’ve got called anything but ‘hand of God’. The structure appears to pop out of nothingness, just like a Supreme Being wanting to convey his blessings and nothing more. Take a look at the image.

NASA explains that the golden structure is a nebula of energy and particles blown by a pulsar. The pulsar has been left behind after explosion of a star. This pulsar is known as PSR B1509-58. It is about 19 kilometres in diamters. Mind boggling thing is that it is spinning around itself 7 times per second. It is 17,000 lightyears away from Earth.

Bishan Singh Bedi’s 75th birthday is gift for family, friends: ‘We got him back’

Seven months after that surgery, Bedi, slightly frail, cuts a cake shaped like a cricket ball, his son Angad and daughter Neha stand on either side; Anju, behind him, leans over to plant a kiss on his cheek. Each one is aware that this picture-perfect frame is a very special gift they have got.

On Friday, a day before his 75th birthday, at the launch of a book on him (The Sardar of Spin), sits Indian cricket legend Bishan Singh Bedi, in a wheelchair, ringed by doting fans and former team-mates.

Watching him, mindful that he doesn’t let his mask slip, is wife Anju, as she recalls that grim day this February when she had to take the most important decision of her life — and perhaps

Three days after his heart surgery, Bedi had a stroke because of a brain clot. A risky surgery was needed and she was asked for her consent.

“Bishan was lying in the Operation Theatre. Something which he always says sort of enveloped me. He would tell the boys, ‘The game is never over until the last ball is bowled’. That’s when I instantly made the decision and I said, ‘Go ahead with the surgery’. Everybody thought it was the end of the road but I said to myself, ‘Surely your game is not over’,” says Anju with a smile whose warmth touches everyone present.

Sonu Sood opens up about income tax raids and other financial allegations: I’ve not wasted any money

Actor Sonu Sood answers every allegation levelled against him in the past couple of days, including tax evasion.

By oshil chawada

25.09.2021

Actor Sonu Sood has been accused of tax evasion.

“Zabardast” is Sonu Sood’s reply when we ask him how he’s doing, especially after the last two days that have been extremely tough for him. It was recently revealed that his premises and house were raided by Income Tax department for alleged tax evasion. And every noble thing he did during the past one-and-a-half years during the pandemic, came under the scanner. Fingers were pointed at the unused amount of donations with his charity foundation, and a lot of other things.

Here is the man himself, taking on every allegation in an exclusive conversation with us. “It was coming, everyone knew that,” he exclaims, adding, “I always believe that when you try to do something which is different, you are bound to face difficulties. In fact, many percentages of my endorsements’ fees, I ask them to donate to my foundation so it can be stronger. The total is not what someone has given to us, a lot of it is my remuneration.”

Excerpts from the interview with the 48-year-old.

There were donations worth ₹18.94 crores collected, but only 1.9 crores was used. Why is that?

It was not lying unused; we use it every single day. The money is transferred to hospitals and educational institutes, and we use it for saving lives. It has been just four to five months we started collecting. If I was using the money the way I am getting cases, it won’t take even 18 hours to finish that money. (Whenever we get a case), we scrutinise, and make sure it goes to a genuine needy person. A blind girl who donated ₹15,000 from the pension she gets, those 18 crores have that amount, same for what comes from the piggy banks of kids. I had to make sure every single penny was used wisely, and goes to the right person. Every foundation takes time. I have been trying to make a hospital, and met ministers in Telangana and other states, spoke to top hospitals across the country. My dreams are bigger so that even if Sonu Sood is not there, we exist and the help continues. People say I haven’t spent the money, but I have not wasted it either

Freedom press

Freedom of Press – Article 19(1)(a) … In Romesh Thaper vs State of Madras and Brij Bhushan vs State of Delhi

The Supreme Court took it for granted the fact that the freedom of the press was an essential part of the right to freedom of speech and expression

Freedom of press is not specifically mentioned in article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution and what is mentioned there is only freedom of speech and expression. In the Constituent Assembly Debates it was made clear by Dr. Ambedkar, Chairman of the Drafting Committee, that no special mention of the freedom of press was necessary at all as the press and an an individual or a citizen were the same as far as their right of expression was concerned.

Freedom of Press –

To preserve the democratic way of life it is essential that people should have the freedom of express their feelings and to make their views known to the people at large. The press, a powerful medium of mass communication, should be free to play its role in building a strong viable society. Denial of freedom of the press to citizens would necessarily undermine the power to influence public opinion and be counter to democracy.

The framers of the Indian constitution considered freedom of the press as an essential part of the freedom of speech and expression as guaranteed in Article 19 (1) (a) of the Constitution.

Public Interest has to be safeguard by article 19(1)(2) which lays down reasonable limitations to the freedom of expression in matters affecting:

a. Sovereignty and integrity of the State

b. Security of the State

c. Friendly relations with foreign countries

d. Public order

e. Decency and morality

f. Contempt of court

g. Defamation

h. Incitement to an offence
