4 K-Pop Group Famous in the World

Everyone  have heard about K-Pop culture .It’s origin is South Korea . K-Pop means Korean Pop Culture . A group of young girls & boys are trained & become professional in dancing & singing .They then together release song videos with their amazing hip-hop dance .This K-Pop culture is now very famous  all around the world . These K-Pop bands are internationally very acknowledged .Let’s talk about some of them —–

1. BTS : It is the most internationally famous K-Pop band .It is a 7 boys band group .The other name of BTS is Bangtan Boys .Their formation time is 2010 & they first debuted in 2013 .They work under Big Hit Entertainment company of South Korea .Name of the & boys are – V or, Kim Tea-hyung (He is a vocals ) ,Jeon Jungkook (He is the main vocals) , Park Ji-min (he is the lead vocalist) , Kim Seok-jin (he is a vocals) , Suga or ,Min Yoon-gi (he is a rapper) , RM or, Kim Nam-joon (he is also a rapper) , J-Hope or, Jung Ho-seok ( he is also a rapper) . Their fandom circle is called BTS Army . They have achieve numerous awards ,recognition , credits for their works from all around the world . Their song Dynamite had nominated for Grammy award . Some of their album are — Youth ,Wake up ,Love yourself , The most beautiful moment in life  and many others .

Blackpink : It is one of the most internationally recognized girl K-Pop band group in Korea .There are 4 girls in this Group .Their name are  — Jennie or, Kim Jennie (she is the lead vocalist 7 also a rapper) , Lisa or, Lalisa Manoban (She is the main dancer) ,Rose or, Park Roseanne  (she is the main vocals) , Jisoo or, Kim Ji-soo (she is the lead vocalist) . They work under YG Entertainment in Korea .They first debuted in the August of the year of 2016 . They have also got many awards . Some of their album are  – Kill this love , square up  and many more .

3. EXO : It is also one of the famous boys band of Korea which is globally recognizes .It works under SM Entertainment . Their group was formed in 2011 & they first debuted in 2012 . At first they were a 12 members group including 4 chinese members .But after 2016, 3 chinese members (Kris ,Luhan ,Tao) have left the group & now they are a & membered boys group .Name of these 9 members —  Kai or, Kim Jong-in (he is vocals & a very good dancer) , D.O. or, Doh Kyung-soo (he is the main vocals & also an actor) ,Beakhyun or, Byun Baek-hyun (He is the main vocals & an actor) , Chanyeol or, Park Chan-yeol (he is a vocals) ,Sehun or, Oh Se-hun (he is the main rapper) ,Chen or, Kim Jong-dae (he is the main vocals) ,Suho or, Kim Jun-myeon (he is the group leader &  the lead vocalist) ,Lay or, Zhang Lay (he is a vocal & a Chinese actor) ,Xiumin or, Kim Min-seok (he is a lead vocalist) .They also got numerous awards .Some of their album are – Wolf ,Love shot ,XOXO ,Exodus ,Tempo ,Obsession & many others .Currently some of the members are serving in Military (like Suho ,Beckhyun ,Chanyeol) , D.O. & Xiumin had already finished their military training & remaining members will be enlisted in future .

4. TWICE : It is also a very famous girls group in Korea .This group works under JYP Entertainment .They debuted in the year of 2015  .They are 9 girls member . Their name – Sana (She is a vocals) ,Tzuyu ,Momo (she is the main dancer) ,Nayeon (she is the vocals) ,Jeongyeon (she is the lead vocalist) ,Mina (she is the vocals) ,Jihyo (she is the main vocals) ,Dahyun (she is the main rapper) ,Chaeyoung (she is the main rapper) . They also have got many awards .Some of their album are — Perfect World , Merry & Happy ,Taste of Love ,What is love and many more .

Tiger Shroff does another dance cover of a K-pop song

K-pop as usual is loved by a lot of people all around the world and recently there are many Indian celebrities that have come out about their love for k pop. All if these one is Tiger Shroff. Previously when most popular k-pop group BTS released their first full English song it was loved by fans all over the world and also sat up some new records. The band also got nominated for Grammys for dynamite.

Tiger Shroff did a dance cover to the song and it was appreciated by many fans of BTS.

And once again Tiger Shroff has done a dance cover of “Mmmh” BY kAI of the popular boy band EXO. The song was released a month ago and was a big hit.

where many fans are appreciatibng the fact that K pop is getting the recognisation it deserve there are some of the fans who are accusing the actor to grab attention by coverng the songs all of sudden. Acoording to them as Kpop is getting popular worldwide people are just getting around it for clout.

Two members of this K-pop Band Tested Positive FOR COVID-19

K-POP band Treasure’s two members have tested positive for COVID-19. Kim Do Young and So Jung Hwan have tested psitive for COVID-19.

On July 13 YG Entertainment did announced that Do Young has tested positive for COVID-19 after he along with other members with some of the staff went through the the process.

YG Entertainment said,” we are informing you that Treasure member Doyoung has tested positive for COVID-19 test today. The other members and the staff tested negative. As there are no other confirmed cases, the Treasure members and the staff will be self-quarantine.”

On July 16 YG Entertainment released a statement saying that the youngest members of Treasure So Jung Hwan has tested positive for COVID-19.

In the statement YG Entertainment said,

“This is YG Entertainment.We inform you that TREASURE member So Jung Hwan tested positive for COVID-19 today (July 16). Besides Doyoung who tested positive on July 13, the other TREASURE members and staff have tested negative as a result of all additional tests until now.

So Jung Hwan tested negative initially, but he received a positive result from continuously checking his health with a rapid detection kit while under self-quarantine, and he was confirmed positive with the following PCR test.”

With the release of this statement fans flock to send positive messages to both the idols recovery. everyone is wishing them a fast recovery and we also wish for their fast recovery.

The Rise Of Hallyu

The Korean Wave or as it is more popularly known the ‘Hallyu Wave’ is the rise in the popularity of South Korean culture globally. 

The word ‘Hallyu’ finds its origin in the chinese word Hanryu meaning “Korean wave”. The Korean wave refers to a global awareness of several aspects of South Korean culture, such as television and film (especially “K-dramas”), K-pop, manhwa, the Korean language, and Korean food. 

Hallyu first started gaining prominence in the 1990s and was originally only limited to Japan and China. That all changed with one movie. Released in 1999, ‘Swiri’ is a North Korea/South Korea espionage film. The film was not only popular in China and Japan but soon gained popularity in several South East Asian countries as well. This momentum was carried forward with dramas such as ‘Autumn In My Heart’ and ‘Winter Sonata’ and films like ‘My Sassy Girl’. The popularity of these entertainment products generated a lot of hype about Korean culture’s exploding prominence. 

The Korean government’s decision to relax the prohibition on Koreans travelling abroad in the early 1990s was perhaps the most crucial element that ultimately paved the way for Hallyu. This allowed a number of Koreans to go to the western world, primarily the United States and Europe. These western-educated Koreans carried with them new business approaches, new nuances and interpretations of art, movies, and music, as well as new means of expression. This resulted in a massive pool of young, energetic, and highly competent people eager to explore prospects in Korea. 

At the same time when the restrictions were repealed, Asia (including Korea) was experiencing the terrible Asian financial crisis of 1997-98. The Asian financial crisis was a perfect storm of bad debt, lender anxiety, and regional economic difficulties.Because many worldwide stakeholders still felt Korea was in terrible health after the crisis, the nation lost foreign direct investments, tourism, and faced global mistrust. To address the issue, the then newly elected president Kim Dae-Jung and the Korean head of global PR agency Edelman co-authored a book geared towards foreign investors titled “Korea: On Course – and Open for Business.”

Since the 2000s, the Korean Wave has seen a steady increase in popularity but that all changed with the growing use of the internet and social media. Hallyu has been spreading for over 20 years, but K-pop in particular has grown more visible to worldwide audiences in the last five to ten years. K-pop is a noticeable and distinct addition to the domain of pop music for three reasons: very high-quality performance (particularly dancing), an exceedingly perfected aesthetic, and a “in-house” technique of studio production. The international breakthrough of “Gangnam Style” was followed by a boom of K-Pop idol groups such as Big Bang, Girls’ Generation, 2PM, EXO, Wanna One, BTS, Twice and Blackpink.

Korean films and filmmakers have increasingly piqued the curiosity of international cinema communities. Train to Busan, has gained international acclaim as a must-see Korean film due to its intriguing subject matter and good narrative structure.Films such as ‘Parasite’ and ‘Minari’ have won several accolades worldwide. 

Korean skincare products have also grown in popularity throughout Asia. Amorepacific and LG Household & Health Care have risen to the top of the Asia-Pacific beauty industry. K-dramas and K-pop boosted exposure of Korean beauty goods and brands, which increased demand among Indian women, resulting in the establishment of several specialist e-commerce businesses. Korean consumer brands are expected to be in great demand in India by 2020, with items ranging from food to cosmetics and toys, in addition to household gadgets. 

The Korean Wave’s budding global surge has not only boosted South Korea’s economy but also enhanced its soft power and cultural diplomacy. People all over the world are interested in the Korean Wave’s future because the continued flourishing of a local culture in global cultural marketplaces might send an inspirational message of acceptance and inclusiveness. The Korean Wave’s rise may also be an indication of changing relations between Western and non-Western cultures.

Let’s K-Pop

K-Pop is now extremely popular amongst youth across the globe. Whether or not you may have yourself looked up a song on YouTube, there are chances that you have a friend who is interested or has asked you to give a song a listen. The truth is that the K-pop industry is huge. There are several agencies representing such idols and most of them have more than two groups under their agency. While you may have come across BTS or Blackpink already, there are many other equally talented but lesser known groups and soloists that are worth stanning.

With four months of the year still left, there will be plenty to look forward to for k-pop fans as there is still loads in store. With Blackpink slated to drop their first full length album in October and comebacks from BTS and Twice lined up as well. Moreover, EXO’s Kai will debut as a soloist before the end of 2020 and this has been a hot topic among K-pop fans.

As for September, we are a week in and we’ve already seen some good comebacks. Lovelyz made their comeback after more than a year with Obliviate on September 1 and so did CLC with Helicopter on September 2. A.C.E and Super Junior D&E also made their comebacks this past week. Yesterday, on September 7, SHINee’s Taemin made his solo comeback with his third full album and the day also saw solo debuts of Oh My Girl’s YooA and Apink’s Kim Namjoo.

Only 3 months after their most recent release, Stray Kids will be back with their first repackaged album on September 14. The same day will also mark the debut of ASTRO’s first unit comprising of Moonbin and Sanha. VAV will release their sixth mini album on September 15 and SuperM will release their first full album on September 25.

Hallyu is the new frontrunner of Soft Power

Hard Power or coercive power is often recognized as having shaped Global Politics for years. A smaller nation ought to fear a bigger nation that has an expansive army or greater economic prowess. On the other hand, soft power in politics refers to the ability to attract and co-opt rather than coerce. Soft Power is thus co-optive power. It primarily refers to shaping others’ preferences through appeal or through attraction.

Joseph S Nye Jr. was the scholar who coined the term soft power in the late 1980s. He defined it as the ability of a country to persuade others to do what it wants without force or coercion. In the context of International Relations, it emerged as one of the go-to-strategies for many. The US was among the earliest beneficiaries with the McDonaldization of the world. More recently, Asian countries have witnessed a remarkable boom in their economies thanks to the concept of soft power.

South Korea has been among the biggest beneficiaries of the same. Korean pop, or K-pop as it is more commonly known, has been at the heart of Korean soft power strategies. The Korean culture wave or ‘Hallyu’ has taken the world by storm. K-Dramas were initially meant for domestic audience but its audience soon spread to other parts of Asia and slowly captured the world. K-pop groups like EXO, BTS, Blackpink are now household names. BTS accounted for $4.65 billion (£3.5 billion) of South Korea’s GDP in 2019. EXO’s Baekhyun, who debuted as a soloist in 2019, released his second album in May 2020 and went on to become the first soloist in over 19 years to sell more than one million physical albums. In today’s digital day and age, selling over one million physical albums is a huge achievement.

The popularity of Korean music, K-Dramas and films has resulted in growth in other sectors such as food, tourism and has increased the demand for the Korean language as well. The international popularity of K-pop groups, actors and Hallyu in general, is a great example of the proliferation of Korean soft power. Soft power is at the heart of cultural diplomacy. Through deploying cultural diplomacy tools, nations and other international actors mobilize resources for forming positive opinions about their culture, people and society. The promotion of soft power through cultural diplomacy is a shared interest of both governmental and non-governmental actors as well as K-pop agencies.

K-pop groups play a big part in spreading positive associations with Korean culture worldwide, through the immediate impact of their performances on international music charts, merchandising and rise in tourism. The huge demand for K-pop merchandise in India is testimony to their growing popularity in the region. There are many sellers on Instagram and Twitter who devote their time and efforts to conducting group orders for fans in India in order to help them order albums and other merchandise from South Korea. All these cases illustrate how influential South Korean soft power strategy has been in expanding horizons for the Far East Asian nation.

The Up and Coming Korean Brands

Happiness for a parent is when he is recognized by his child’s name. Just so, when a small country, in terms of size and resources, gains something big, a name in the whole world only because of the various companies it is home to, nothing could measure up to that.

For a long time, Korea was just a country with a population of 76 million, located in Asia, known for its cultural heritage and cuisine. However, in recent times the Korean Products and brands have become very popular in all corners of the globe. Invading our homes are LG, Samsung, Hyundai, 87mm to name a few. Being a gadget freak, I have my home filled with gadgets ranging from a Samsung Galaxy Tab, an LG microwave and washing machine, and even a Hyundai Grand i10.

The popularity of these brands is such that even global media such as Time and Fortune feature them too. Not only the well-known brands, but the smaller ones too are also set to make a mark in this giant world, few of them being Lock and Lock, Aurora, Pororo, and Woongjin.

Similar to naming a newborn, branding is the most vital marketing step for an organization, creating its identity, and generating long-term business perspectives. And that, I think, has been achieved by many brands of Korea very beautifully. With the fandom of Samsung merchandise overshadowing the popularity of Apple products, Korea has successfully ventured into the arena of technological advancements. Founded in 1967, the world’s largest maker of memory chips, smartphones, and television Samsung Electronics has a user-friendly interface and one could be easily taught how to operate a Samsung mobile phone.

Now, these advancements are being highlighted worldwide by hosting events like the Big Bang Alive Tour and the Golden Disk Awards, which receive global press coverage and have helped to build up a positive brand for Korea and its products.

Some of the leading automobile producers, no doubt, are from South Korea. World’s largest shipbuilding company is Hyundai Heavy Industries and the world’s fifth-biggest carmaker, Hyundai Motor Company is the top automaker in South Korea, producing pieces like Grand i10, Santa Fe, Veloster, Universe, and Genesis, with a variety of trims and body styles.

Korea has developed in terms of fashion too. When Wonder Girl’s star Sohee, one of the most fashionable young stars in the country is campaigning for 8seconds, there must be something in that brand. “Spain has Zara, Korea has 8seconds,” said “In Style Korea” fashion editor Sujin Yang. A signature 8seconds will have you looking at a pair of neon tribal print leggings paired with Space Age silver bomber jackets and a retro polka dot blouse. With colorful and creative displays, the stores are some of the most fun places to visit in Korea. Next in line is the Lucky Chouette, the variegated, street-inspired, and accessible line by Kim Jae Hyun.

The obvious analogy that one could make is that South Korea is set to one day replace Japan in terms of makers of high-quality brands. This in turn can mean that Samsung is on a trajectory to become Sony and Hyundai will one day have as loyal a following as Honda. Nevertheless, since brands are more global than ever before, it is getting harder to identify a global brand with a single country. That could help ascendant brands as they gain a global presence. As it is newcomers from China and India are already stalking them, fueled by fast-growing middle classes eager to display their newfound wealth through luxury goods and premium brands. With this growth rate, the day is not far when South Korea would be leading the world with all its advancements and technologies, supported by the hard work of its people.
