Basic Maths: Averages

What do you understand by averages?

Average is sum of all observations upon number of observation. For eg. Kripa had monthly salary of 20000 and krishna of 40000. There average would be 40000+20000 i.e. sum 60000 upon 2. Answer is 30000. In this question there were 2 observation.

some basic formulas

Sum of first n natural no. = n(n+1)/2

Sum of first n odd no. = n square

Sum of first n even no.= n(n+1)

sum of square of first n natural no. = n(n+1)(2n+1)/6

sum of cube of first n natural no= (n(n+1/2))whole square

  • If n is odd: The average of n consecutive numbers, consecutive even numbers or consecutive odd numbers is always the middle number.
  • If n is even: The average of n consecutive numbers, consecutive even numbers or consecutive odd numbers is always the average of the middle two numbers.

When two groups of Parts or objects are combined together, then we can talk of the average of the entire group. However, if we know only the average of the two groups individually, we cannot find out the average of the combined group of objects.

Ex: The average of 6 consecutive even number is 21. Find the largest number? Largest no. = A + (n−1)
A = average
n = no. of terms
Largest no. = 21 + ( 6 -1) = 26

Ex: The average of 5 consecutive even number is 46. Find the smallest number?
Smallest no. = A – (n – 1)
A = average
n = no. of terms
Smallest no. = 46 -( 5 -1)
= 42

Ex: The average of 6 consecutive odd number is 22. Find the smallest number?Smallest no. = A – (n – 1)
A = average
n = no. of terms
Smallest no. = 22 – ( 6 – 1)
= 17

Geneva gear mechanism

Photo by Pixabay on Pexels.com

Geneva Gear Mechanism The main component of this machine will be the Geneva mechanism (or Maltese Cross). The Geneva drive or Maltese cross is a gear mechanism that translates a continuous rotation into an intermittent rotary motion. Geneva mechanism, also called Geneva Stop, is one of the most commonly used devices for producing intermittent rotary motion, characterized by alternate periods of motion and rest with no reversal in direction. Geneva Mechanisms are widely used in motion picture film projectors to intermittently advance film through a film gate having a projection aperture.

Geneva wheels having the form of the driven wheel were also used in mechanical watches , but not in a drive, rather to limit the tension of the spring , such that it would operate only in the range where its elastic force is nearly linear. If one of the slots of the driven wheel is occluded, the number of rotations the drive wheel can make is limited. In watches, the “drive” wheel is the one that winds up the spring, and the Geneva wheel with four or five spokes and one closed slot prevents overwinding (and also complete unwinding) of the spring. This so-called Geneva stop or “Geneva stop work” was the invention of 17th or 18th century watchmakers.

Other applications of the Geneva drive include the pen change mechanism in plotters , automated sampling devices, banknote counting machines, and many forms of indexable equipment used in manufacturing (such as the tool changers in CNC machines; the turrets of turret lathes , screw machines , and turret drills; some kinds of indexing heads and rotary tables ; and so on). The Iron Ring Clock uses a Geneva mechanism to provide intermittent motion to one of its rings.

All about : Business enenvironment

Photo by Zeeshaan Shabbir on Pexels.com

The word ‘business environment’ indicates the aggregate total of all people, organisations and other forces that are outside the power of industry but that may affect its production.

Business environment is an aggregate of all conditions, events and influences that surround and affect it. It is broad and ever changing as its separate elements interact. A single firm’s environment is narrow in scope than the total environment of business. It is complicated and continuously changing.” —Professor Keith Davis.

No business can exist in a vacuum. The rapidly changing business environment might shorten the life of a given strategy. The external changes might influence the activities and quality of decisions of both the firm and its competitors. George Salk says, “If you’re not faster than your competitor, you’re in a tenuous position, and if you’re only half as fast, you’re terminal.”

Hence, as Kenich Ohmae says that “environmental analysis is the critical starting point of strategic thinking.” Charles Darwin has said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survive nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

We live in a dynamic environment that changes all the time. Businesses must understand the changes in the environment and how these changes affect their performance. The process of thinking strategically requires that managers understand how the structure and competitive dynamics of their industry affect the performance and profitability of their companies. Armed with an appreciation of the forces in their industry that give rise to opportunities and threats, managers should be able to make better strategic decisions.

Successful managers must recognize opportunities and threats in their firm’s external environment. Regardless of the industry, the external environment is critical to a firm’s survival and success. A host of external factors influence a firm’s choice of direction and action.

Solar Tree or Solar Photovoltaic Trees are a kind of construction that looks similar to trees. They may be framed from small scale to big scale. It is an artwork which is a combination of creative and technological effort. Solar panels are put on top of its “branches”. Utilizing the sunlight energy, solar panels produce electric energy which is then used for charging gadget. It is very essential now to use the solar energy due to growing pollution form different energy producing power plant. And dew to growing population it is best renewable source of energy with no causing pollution and natural hazards.

It consumes very less space as compared to conventional flat a

.2) Introduction of Solar panel & types of solar panel

Solar panel are made of small unites called solar cell this is made up of silicon this works on the photo-voltaic (P-V) module.A PV module is an assembly of photo-voltaic cells mounted in a framework for installation. Photo-voltaic cells use sunlight as a source of energy and generate direct current electricity. In this module two type of silicon is used

  • N-type silicon
  • P-type silicon

And the combination is known as P-N junction this creates the positive and negative charge.

These days, solar panels are used in wide-ranging electronic equipments like calculators, which work as long as sunlight is available.

However, the only major drawback of solar panels is that they are quite costly. Also, solar panels are installed outdoors as they need sunlight to get charged.

Types of inventory

Raw materials are inventory items that are used in the manufacturer’s conversion process to produce components, subassemblies, or finished products. These inventory items may be commodities or extracted materials that the firm or its subsidiary has produced or extracted.

Work-in-process (WIP) is made up of all the materials, parts (components), assemblies, and subassemblies that are being processed or are waiting to be processed within the system.

A finished good is a completed part that is ready for a customer order. Therefore, finished goods inventory is the stock of completed products. These goods have been inspected and have passed final inspection requirements so that they can be transferred out of work-in-process and into finished goods inventory.

Transit inventories result from the need to transport items or material from one location to another, and from the fact that there is some transportation time involved in getting from one location to another. Sometimes this is referred to as pipeline inventory.

 Buffer inventory used to protect against the uncertainties of supply and demand, as well as unpredictable events such as poor delivery reliability or poor quality of a supplier’s products. These inventory cushions are often referred to as safety stock. Safety stock or buffer inventory is any amount held on hand that is over and above that currently needed to meet demand.

Anticipation inventory is when , firms will purchase and hold inventory that is in excess of their current need in anticipation of a possible future event. Such events may include a price increase, a seasonal increase in demand, or even an impending labor strike.

Profit or loss prior to incorporation for a corporate

When a running business is taken over from a date prior to its incorporation/commencement, the profit earned up to the date of incorporation/commencement (incorporation, in case of private company; and commencement, in case of public company) is known as ‘Pre-incorporation profit’.

The same is to be treated as capital profit since these are profits which have been earned before the company came into existence. In short, the profit earned after the date of purchase of business is called ‘Post-incorporation or Post-acquisition profit’ and the profit earned before the date of purchase of business is termed as ‘Pre-incorporation profit’.

Thus, any profit/loss made before the incorporation is known as “Profit (Loss) Prior to Incorporation” which is treated as a capital profit and the same cannot be distributed as business profit. Hence, it cannot be distributed by way of dividend.

The same is to be transferred to Capital Reserve or may be adjusted against Goodwill. “Loss prior to incorporation” is treated as a capital loss and, hence, the same is shown under the head “Miscellaneous Expenditure” in the assets side of the Balance Sheet.

A Profit and Loss Account is prepared at the end of the year and thereafter the profits (or losses) between the two periods are allocated:

(i) From the date of purchase to the date of incorporation or pre-incorporation period;

(ii) From the date of incorporation to the closing of the accounting year or post-incorporation period.
