Draupadi was the daughter of King Drupada of Panchala. Draupadi was an unwanted child born to him. She was not born from her mother’s womb. ‘Growing up with Teens’ by Ruchi Verma, is a psychological approach that revolves around the lives of Teens. I loved to explore this genre. It intrigues me a lot, how parents establish connections with their offspring, how they involve in the process of long-term behavioural management. So, to explore the reality I read this book.

This book was all about the vision of teen parenting. It is not an easy task to raise a teenager, but with the right approach, every parent puts forward to make this journey easier. As communication should not be a barrier in your relationships with your offspring, and these methods will definitely help you to begin better conversations with your teenage kids.

Ruchi Verma states ‘Each day as a parent we too are growing up and understanding the other side of the story.’ This book comprises of 12 chapters. Every section deals with new challenges that emerge in the road of family life. There are so many questions that arise with this set of age, in regards to emotional, physical and social changes. And the perspective, author shared here, is really a nice construct if you can agree to put it into practice this book is really helpful to parents.

Ruchi Verma offers a whole section on communication that I liked the most about this novel. The author acknowledges many important points, for example─ why communication is important? How your teens want to communicate? Do and don’ts of communications.

‘Don’t assume or read their mind. If you don’t understand certain behaviour change or less communication or even, they are not doing things according to the rules made by you’.

‘Listening means letting them finish their story and their thoughts. Just make sure when they talk, look in their eyes, and show interest in their versions. Your opinion on that same topic might differ but remember to give them equal opportunity to put forward their opinions so that they don’t feel neglected.

As a reader, I have mixed feelings about this novel. On the positive side, Ruchi Verma shared some absolute gems of tips and advice based on her personal and professional experiences. She comes up with the idea of talk about adolescence, depression, anxiety. Adding to this, she explored myths and taboos of sex education in India. ‘We carry a hush-hush talking attitude for years. It’s high time to change and break this taboo. Teaching your child this aspect is as important as giving them any other education’.

Not only had she incorporated discussion on daughter’s puberty but also added her son’s too. I have found it to be immensely practical and loved reading it. 

The author has rightly convinced me to go on reading the book because every page gave me a new idea about the way she handles the teen’s mind swings. On the other side, I found the information bit repetitive. I so wish it were organized a bit differently.

Reading this book has enhanced the way we look at the behaviour of teens, and the way we feel their life is easy, but they also go through various emotional traumas. ‘It is important to teach both boys and girls that they are equal in the society, and one should respect the other gender’s emotions and consent always.

Book Review: The Tattoo on My Breast by Ravi Rai

‘The Tattoo on My Breast’ is the debut novel by acclaimed television director and writer Ravi Rai. The story is a mixture of an epic tale of love, passion, emotion, drama and romance set in the times of partition through the eyes of our protagonist women.

The story is set in the 1940’s era, around the time of the Quit India movement and Independence. A Spanish aid worker named Abella Alejandro had come with the International Red Cross to Nepal after the 2015 earthquake and there she learns about Sadhana’s story, the childish granddaughter of a rich Sindhi grain merchant who was getting married to Prakash, when Rehman, the meek, poor boy living next to Sadhana’s house and was Sadhana’s childhood friend realizes his love for her.

On the other hand, Jinnah and Nehru have started displaying their influence on the young and the restless of the yet undivided India, where the several Gurdwara’s Sikh flags are replaced with the green flag of Islam and Prakash becomes a fatality in one such crossfire.

Barely 15 days into her marriage and Sadhana is a widow. And Rehman is back in her life. But little does she know that her radical Hindu father has fixed her marriage to Sunil, a Sindhi millionaire running his looms in Dhakka, which is soon to become East Pakistan.

I feel the story is well researched and beautifully executed. The plot and some of the imagery make it evident that the writer used to write dramatic shows, which explains the dramatic plot and graphic visualisation. The book gives readers a deep look at the hardship and inequality of suffering around the turbulent times in Indian history. Despite the backdrop, the story is predominantly a love story, and this book is a great gift to romantic book readers. Personally, I feel it describes the sorrow of separation and make you realise the importance of your loved ones in your life.

Book Review: ‘Murder at the Mushaira’ by Raza Mir

About the author

Raza Mir’s ‘Murder at the Mushaira’ is not his first book and the author is almost an expert in writing novels and various other books like Ghalib: A Thousand Desires, The Taste of Words: An Introduction to Urdu. But ‘Murder at the Mushaira’ is most certainly his ‘magnum opus. Each and every page of this novel is worth reading and re-reading. There is no denying or any dilemma in mind because we can see the years of effort and intense research that must have gone into this exquisite work of art by Raza Mir. The fact jumps out at the reader as one is compelled to halt, ponder, smile and sigh at the careful selection of words that create a vivid, elaborate and exuberant imagery of the then Shahjahanabad, amid the rising tensions, chaos and tumult of the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny.

So, the story of this historical fiction by Raza Mir, set against the backdrop of the revolt of 1857.. India stands on the brink of war. Everywhere in its cities, towns, and villages, rebels and revolutionaries are massing to overthrow the ruthless and corrupt British East India Company which has taken over the country and laid it to waste. In Delhi, the capital, even as the plot to get rid of the hated foreigners gathers intensity, the busy social life of the city hums along. Nautch girls entertain clients, nawabs host mushairas or poetry soirees in which the finest poets of the realm congregate to recite their latest verse and intrigue, the wealthy roister in magnificent havelis, and the drinking dens of the city continue to pack in customers.

Book Review: Fighter Cock by Sidharth Singh

‘Fighter Cock by Sidharth Singh’ is a book that gives you the vision of the universe of petty politics, rivalry and obsession for sex, drugs, and cockfighting. Each character retains their flaws yet is absorbing and dramatic. Although, in the beginning, I am not into this type of genre as much, still this debut gave me enough reason to carry on with it. 

Fightercock is a story based on the life of Sher Shah aka Sheru, who has a dangerous past. In a search for a job, he enters this unusual world of royal heritages, patriarchal society, and vengeance. This story is set in Shikargarh, Central India. An untamed wilderness is ruled by Raja Rattan Shah with a passion of blood sport. As Kings always need a new territory to conquer, Raja sahib launches his dream project, the black cock poultry farm, which rears top- class Karianath.

‘Sheru glanced up again at the shabby painting of the Shikargarh coat of arms and inspected the black rooster, framed by two crossed swords below and a fortress above, trying to find meaning in its bizarre heraldry.’

As the story unfolds and discover, more characters come into the spotlight with the basic plotline, that is ─ The Raja’s Karianath fighter cocks are the undisputed champions of the area, but their reign is challenged by the new Aseel fighters imported by Teja, his bastard son, who also schemes to take his position the Aseels had taken the cockfights by storm and upset the status.

In the next few chapters, we have been getting introduced to Sheru’s past life and his connection with Bombay’s underworld.

In the story the author has also described sheru’s childhood he says- as a child our Sheru often asked his mother why she had given him the name Sher Shah. And her answer set the environment of this novel, ‘because you are a tiger, the king of the jungle. You don’t know that yet, but one day you will.’

Once he lost both his parents, he questioned his life journey ‘Why on earth had Anna (his guardian) sent him to Shikargarh, of all places, when he could have easily packed him off down south or even abroad? What was Anna’s real connection with Murugan (Raja Sahib’s Assitant)? How long would he be able to survive here knowing that Anna’s life may be in danger?

As in projects, you need to construct a flow chart into your mind, you need to do the same here to understand the story because there are not a couple of plots but subplots and various tales and references, it is a wild trip, characters do clash, worlds rebuild and it really demands the reader attention.

Personally, I think Fighter Cock is a political thriller that reveals the difficult world of poor Kairus, who were caught in an endless web of debt and delusion. This weekly spectator-sport extravaganza and sports like cockfight was the only form of public entertainment in the area and brought in substantial revenue from illegal gambling, mahua and ganja sales, whereas the raja took the lion’s share of the proceeds.

The only thing interrupted in this novel is the usage of superabundant characters. The prose is clear, and moving sentences. The author managed to captivate drama in right place. I liked the nuances between Sherub and Kanya. ‘If you stay in Shikargarh long enough, you will stop wearing one. Time moves slowly around here,’ she said and extended a delicate but firm hand towards him. ‘I am kanya’.

Fighter cock novel is a kind of political thriller that will keep you hooked with each and every page of the book, it is interesting as well as boring at the same time. But I would definitely suggest this book is not for children below 16years.

You could also use a cold compress to relieve the pain if the dermatologist says you can’t use aloe cream.

Protect the area with sunscreen for at least 6 months after the treatment-

The area will be more sensitive to sunlight since the melanin has been removed. Make sure you protect it for at least 6 months after the procedure. Apply sunscreen regularly with at least 30 SPF whenever you go outside to avoid sunburns.

If the spot is in an area you can cover with your clothes, then you don’t need sunscreen.

Use a chemical peel to remove surface melanin-

If you want to lighten large patches of skin instead of a few spots, then your dermatologist may try a chemical peel to reduce melanin pigmentation. They will rub an acid agent onto your skin and let it sit for about 25-30 minutes. During this time, it dissolves the surface skin layers. Then, the dermatologist will wash the mask off.

Your dermatologist will probably use light to medium-depth peel to start out with. In general, the lighter you want your skin, the deeper the peel has to be.

If you have sensitive skin, your dermatologist may not use a chemical peel. Placing acid on sensitive skin could cause a lot of irritation and cause burning of the skin.

You may need multiple chemical peels to remove excess melanin.

Non-prescription and store-bought chemical peels are not recommended and could be harmful. Only have a chemical peel treatment under a dermatologist’s supervision.

Your skin will be irritated and red for a few days after the treatment. Your dermatologist might tell you to take pain relievers and provide you with washing instructions to help you heal faster.

Microdermabrasion is usually only used on small patches, so your dermatologist may use a cream or peel if you want a large area lightened.

Ask your dermatologist for a prescription whitening cream-

If you don’t want to have an in-office procedure, you could also get a prescription product to apply at home. Most of these creams contain retinoids or hydroquinone, both of which can lighten skin. Apply the cream onto your skin exactly as directed by your derma. In most cases, you’ll have to use prescription creams for about 3 months to complete the treatment.

The application instructions vary with different products, but in most cases, you’ll apply the cream 1 or 2 times per day. Rub it in completely and then wash your hands thoroughly.

Keep the cream away from your mouth or eyes.

Don’t get the cream on anyone else, or it could bleach their skin. Keep the cream away from children’s.

Those with darker skin tones should exercise caution if considering using a product that contains hydroquinone, as it can cause irreversible discolouration and skin darkening.

Apply an over-the-counter 2% hydroquinone cream-

Hydroquinone is a common bleaching product that’s effective for lightening skin. Low concentrations are available from pharmacies without a prescription. Check the application instructions and apply the cream to the affected area exactly as directed and don’t go out in sun.

OTC creams should produce results within 4 months. If you don’t notice any change, contact your dermatologist.

Products with a hydroquinone concentration higher than 2% are usually not available without a prescription. This is because hydroquinone could cause health problems in high concentrations and with long-term use.

Some countries have banned hydroquinone without a prescription or altogether because of potential health risks. However, studies demonstrate that concentrations between 2-4% are not dangerous.

Get a skin cream that contains kojic acid-

This is another common ingredient that’s used in many skin-lightening products. This is because it can reduce the amount of melanin in your skin and prevent the formation of new melanin cells. Check the pharmacy or shop online for a kojic acid cream and apply it exactly as directed.

Kojic acid doesn’t have the potential health risks of hydroquinone, so you can use it if your country has banned hydroquinone. You could also ask your dermatologist for a prescription to buy kojic acid cream.

It has been nearly one year since I have first heard of Patrick Süskind’s literary sensation, Perfume, The Story of a Murderer. I initially thought that it was a biographical work but upon learning it was a fictional work, I was quick to add it to my growing TBR list. Basically, I bought this book for my college assignment. So how do I describe the experience? Was the anticipation worth it? It was both worth it and not I guess. I was expecting so much more and it did, on many levels, lived up to them. I guess the story was a little too short, the story ended too soon. I was so engaged that when the book ended, I was filled with pangs of regret. Lastly, my major takeaway from the story was greediness for something is always injurious.

The screenplay, by Tykwer, Andrew Birkin and Bernd Eichinger, is based on Patrick Süskind’s 1985 novel Perfume. This movie was one of his best known internationally directed thriller films.


In the slums of 18th-century Paris, a baby is born. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille clings to life. The story begins with the sentencing of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a notorious murderer. Between the reading of the sentence and the execution, the story of his life is told in flashback, beginning with his abandonment at birth in a French fish market. Raised in an orphanage, Grenouille grows into a strangely detached boy with a superhuman sense of smell.
After growing to maturity as a tanner’s apprentice, he makes his first delivery to Paris, where he revels in all the new scents. He focuses on a redheaded girl selling yellow plums, following her and repeatedly attempting to sniff her, but startles her with his behaviour. To prevent her from crying out, he covers the girl’s mouth and unintentionally suffocates her. After realizing that she is dead, he strips her body naked and smells her all over,
becoming distraught when her scent fades. Afterwards, Grenouille is haunted by the desire to recreate the girl’s aroma. After making a delivery to a perfume shop, Grenouille amazes the Italian owner, Giuseppe Baldini, with his ability to identify and create fragrances. He revitalizes the perfumer’s career with new formulas, demanding only that Baldini teach him how to preserve scents. Baldini explains that all perfumes are harmonies of twelve individual scents, and may contain a theoretical thirteenth scent. Grenouille continues working for Baldini but is saddened when he learns that Baldini’s method of distillation will not capture the scents of all objects. Baldini informs Grenouille of another method that can be learned in Grasse and agrees to help him by providing the journeyman papers he requires in exchange for 100 new perfume formulas. Right after Grenouille departs, Baldini dies when the shaky building, along with his studio, collapses. En route to Grasse, Grenouille decides to exile himself from society, taking refuge in a cave. During this time, he discovers that he lacks any personal scent himself, and believes this is why he is perceived as strange or disturbing by others. Deciding to continue his quest, he leaves his cave and continues to Grasse. Upon arrival in Grasse, Grenouille catches the scent of Laura Richis, the beautiful, redheaded daughter of the wealthy Antoine Richis and decides that she will be his “thirteenth scent”, the linchpin of his perfume. Grenouille finds a job in Grasse under Madame Arnulfi and learns the method of enfleurage. He kills a young lavender picker and attempts to extract her scent using the method of hot enfleurage, which fails. After this, he attempts the method of cold enfleurage on a prostitute he hired, but she becomes alarmed and tries to throw him out.
He murders her and successfully preserves the scent of the woman. Grenouille embarks on a killing spree, targeting beautiful young women and capturing their scents using his perfected method. He dumps the women’s naked corpses around the city, creating panic. After preserving the first twelve scents, Grenouille plans his attack on Laura. In church, after the Bishop of Grasse declares that the murderer has been excommunicated, it is announced that a man has confessed to the murders. Richis remains unconvinced and secretly flees the city with his daughter, telling no one their destination. Grenouille tracks her scent to a roadside inn and sneaks into her room that night, murdering her. Soldiers capture Grenouille moments after he finishes preparing his perfume. On the day of his execution, he applies the perfume on himself, forcing the jailers to release him. The executioner and the crowd in attendance are speechless at the beauty of the perfume; they declare Grenouille is innocent before falling into a massive orgy. Richis, still convinced of Grenouille’s guilt, threatens him with his sword, but he is then overwhelmed by the scent and embraces Grenouille as his “son.” Walking out of Grasse unscathed, Grenouille has enough perfume to rule the world but has discovered that it will not allow him to love or be loved like a normal person. Disenchanted by his aimless quest, he returns to the Parisian fish market where he was born and pours the remaining perfume over his head. Overcome by the scent and in the belief that Grenouille is an angel, the nearby crowd devours him. The next morning, all that is left are his clothes and the empty bottle, from which one final drop of perfume falls. In this novel, the central theme of the story was how greediness can be harmful and led you to wrong paths and sometimes it can be deadly. The rating of this novel is good with a score of 7.5 out of 10. And was very successful at the time it got released and now also people love to read this novel. The story of the novel was so fantastic that a movie was made on this novel named PERFUME ‘THE STORY OF A MURDERER’ released on [2006] recently Netflix has launched a web series on this theme. If you like thrillers, Suspense, and horror stories then you must read this novel for sure. Raj Kundra scam:

Tip-off on adult film shoot, led cops to Raj Kundra!! Know More

It was February 4. The Mumbai Police received a tip-off: a porn movie being shot at a bungalow in Madh Island. In a prompt raid on the bungalow that followed, the police found two persons in a state of undress being filmed in intimate poses in an uncomfortable position.

According to the police five persons assisting in the filming process were arrested and a woman was rescued from the house that day. Later a complaint was made in the case which eventually led to the arrest of businessman and Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra, five months later on July 19.

Kundra was produced in a court on Tuesday that sent him to police custody till July 23 and got extended till July 27 in connection with the alleged making of pornographic films and publishing them through some mobile applications.

Police said that five persons, arrested from the Madh Island bungalow, would promise aspiring actresses coming to Mumbai, from areas like Beed in rural Maharashtra or states like Jharkhand, roles in web series. On the day of the shoot, the accused would tell the women the script had been changed. They would allegedly ask them to undress and shoot intimate scenes.

If the women refuses, police claimed, they would be threatened with the bill for setting up the shooting. Coming from humble backgrounds, most of these women would succumb to the pressure, the police stated.

Once the movies were shot, the accused allegedly put them on mobile applications like Hot Hit Movies and Hotshots. They allegedly also offered subscriptions on the lines of mainstream OTT platforms and also put up advertisements on social media platforms.

According to the police in June 2020, the Hotshots app was removed from the Apple store and from Google Store in November 2020 following complaints that it was streaming pornographic material.

The crime branch said that during the probe, they found that these adult movies were normally shot within a day at a rented bungalow on the outskirts of Mumbai, like Madh Island. There would be minimal staff of five to six people, who would double up as directors, dialogue writers, location scouts and web app developers. These apps became especially popular during the lockdown, with some gaining a subscriber base of lakhs, the police claimed.

Initially, during the course of its investigation, the Mumbai Police had focused on producers and others who assisted in the process of shooting. Those arrested included Rowa Khan, producer of such films, small-time actor of Gandi Baat web series Gehna Vasisht among others.

Later, the crime branch started focusing on platforms to which such films were sold. It was during this probe that the police arrested Umesh Kamat, who worked with UK-based Kenrin Pvt Ltd, a production company that owns the Hotshots app where some of these movies were uploaded.

Based on Kamat’s questioning and going through his call records, the police found that while Kenrin owned the app, it was allegedly being run by Raj Kundra through his Mumbai-based company Viaan Industries. A charge sheet filed in April, however, did not name Kundra.

After further probe and a scan of the technical data on Kamat’s laptop, the police sought the court’s permission to search Kundra’s office. Eventually, a police team raided the place on Monday and claimed to have found “incriminating evidence” based on which he was arrested late that night.

The police is still investigating in this case  and can find big evidences against this case!!!!

Biography- Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa

Sri Ramakrishna, the God-man of modern India, was born on 18 February 1836 at Kamarpukur in the Hooghly district in India. His parents Khudiram and Srimati Chandramoni were exceptionally devoted persons and earned the love and respect of the villagers for their charity, truthfulness and kindness. Sri Ramakrishna’s early name was Gadadhar Chattopadhyaya or Gadai and later known as Ramakrishna Paramhansa.  Paramhansa is a title of honor applied to Hindu spiritual teachers who have become enlightened. He learnt some lessons in the village pathshala but he was not very much interested in it. Sri Ramakrishna experienced spiritual ecstasies from a young age and was influenced by several religious traditions, including devotion toward the Goddess Kali, Tantra, Bhakti and Advaita Vedanta. Gadadhar was seven years old when his father died. At the age of sixteen, Gadadhar came to Calcutta (now Kolkata) with his elder brother Ramkumar, who wished his assistance in his priestly duties. At that time a rich widow named Rani Rasmani built a temple for the goddess Kali on the eastern bank of the Ganga at Dakshineswar. Being invited by Rasmani, Ramkumar with his brother Gadadhar came to the sacred temple garden and Gadadhar found greater opportunities to pursue his spiritual practices. In 1855 Ramakrishna was appointed as the priest of Dakshineswar Kali Temple, built by Rani Rashmoni. To Sri Ramakrishna, the image of Kali was not an inert stone, but the Mother herself. Rani Rashmani was greatly attracted to Sri Ramakrishna, for she felt that his strange behaviour was for the fullness of devotion to goddess Kali. Sri Ramakrishna had a catholic spirit from the very beginning and he made no distinction between one form of God in Hinduism to another in Islam or Christianity. Rumours spread to Kamarpukur that Ramakrishna had become unstable as a result of his spiritual practices at Dakshineswar. Ramakrishna’s mother and his elder brother Rameswar decided to get Ramakrishna married, thinking that marriage would be a good steadying influence upon him—by forcing him to accept responsibility and to keep his attention on normal affairs rather than his spiritual practices and visions. Ramakrishna himself mentioned that they could find the bride at the house of Ramchandra Mukherjee in Jayrambati, three miles to the northwest of Kamarpukur. The five-year-old bride, Saradamani Mukhopadhyay (later known as Sarada Devi; she is also considered as an avatar) was found, and the marriage was duly solemnised in 1859. Ramakrishna was twenty-three at this point, but this age difference for marriage was typical for nineteenth-century rural Bengal. They later spent three months together in Kamarpukur. Sarada Devi was fourteen, while Ramakrishna was thirty-two. Ramakrishna became a very influential figure in Sarada’s life, and she became a strong follower of his teachings. After the marriage, Sarada stayed at Jayrambati and joined Ramakrishna in Dakshineswar at the age of eighteen.

To spread his message to the world around Sri Ramakrishna needs a strong instrument. And such an instrument was found in Narendranath Dutta, his beloved Naren, later known to the world as Swami Vivekananda.

The last days of Sri Ramkrishna were with his devoted disciples. Ramakrishna’s condition gradually worsened, and he died in the early morning hours of 16 August 1886 at the Cossipore garden house. According to his disciples, this was mahasamadhi. After the death of their master, the monastic disciples led by Vivekananda formed a fellowship at a half-ruined house at Baranagar near the river Ganges, with the financial assistance of the householder disciples. This became the first Math or monastery of the disciples who constituted the first Ramakrishna Order.
