It was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, under University of Madras. It has 8 campuses, 4 in Tamil Nadu – Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani, Tiruchchirappalli and others in Delhi NCR, Sonepat, Gangtok and Amaravati.
