Is “Masculinity” a gender-based characteristic?

On googling the word “Masculinity” you’re provided with a definition stating, “qualities or attributes regarded as characteristic of men”. It enforces males to be “man” enough to be qualified as to being a perfect male figure.
I’ve been pretending to be a man that I’m not my entire life. I’ve been pretending to be strong when I felt weak, confident when I felt insecure and tough when really I was hurting. I think for the most part I’ve just been kind of putting on a show, but I’m tired of performing. And I can tell you right now that it is exhausting trying to be man enough for everyone all the time.” said – Justin Baldoni at a TED talk.
Today, we’re going to question if Masculinity is a gender based characteristic.
As kids we all have been taught that masculinity is the opposite to femininity and therefore males are forced to reject any other embodying quality that of a supposed man. Girls are weak and boys are strong, girls wear pink and boys wear blue, girls play with dolls and boys play with superheroes, girls don’t shout and boys don’t cry; all of these are stereotypical characteristics that are created by our society and we as individuals grow up satisfying them to be “man” enough or “lady” like.

IMPACTS OF THIS MINDSET

Psychological impact on men
According to Mental Health, six million men suffer from depression, and men seem to cope with depression differently than women. Due to society and “toxic masculinity”, i.e. Rejecting any other emotion other than anger or male dominant activities. Men have difficulties in expressing their emotions. Ever since childhood men are taught to dismiss their feelings, and man up to define their gender, which trains them to bottle up sadness, and over time it changes to depression.

Affects equality of gender
This not only affects males but girls as well, women have been fighting for equality for over years now for various reasons like, job opportunities, education, social status, employment rates, ownership of properties and businesses.

CONSEQUENCES

Burderning males with putting masculinity standards causes a lot of distress. Surveys and researches show that young men are more likely to be diagnosed with disorders like autism and ADHD. Men are less likely to ask for help, 45% of men at the ages of 25-29 feel lonely and more likely to commit suicide than women. There are still so many countries which believe that it is the responsibility of the males in a family to run the house and do all the outdoor work. So many men across the world live with the burden of responsibilities on their shoulders even before they turn eighteen, which just adds on to the stress and anxiety to their minds since a young age.

Conclusion:
I question you today, can we not remove the burden of responsibility of “masculinity” away from men, and let it be a word to describe power and femininity to describe care and affection, which can be in both boys and girls. Girls can also be recognised by masculinity. We’re living in a century where both genders stand shoulder to shoulder, if girls can cry, why can’t boys? There are millions and millions of people going into depression out of which the rate of depression in men has been increasing constantly, solely because they are expected to be strong. What kind of strength pushes one into depression? Why can’t soft boys be accepted as gracefully as we accept our superheroes who do the fighting? Let us actually reflect on this and treat each other equally. All of us can do everything we want, let’s stand for equality by all means and not define masculinity as a gender based characteristic.

YouTube: The video hosting platform that has created a raging storm!

Its one of the best user friendly video platforms in the world .Its produced many celebrities and has the solutions to many of our woes in the form of interesting videos. Be it beauty vloggers, lifestyle vloggers or food channels one can find everything on this site. It caters to all our doubts and easily accessible by all. It’s at par with Google, Instagram and Facebook and will continue to remain so in the long run.

Creators have minted huge amounts of money through their YouTube channels, many unemployed people found an amusing and interesting job in having their own youtube channel and creating user friendly content. It has changed the world. Every minute around 500 hours of video content is uploaded. It’s become a platform for many creators to show off their talents and this has also helped viewers in doubt.

Though it comes with its biter drawbacks as some of the content is not user friendly, then comes the problem of stingy comments which can frustrate the channel creator and it also does have a lot of illogical content uploaded on it. The other problem is anyone can become a YouTube creator regardless of their background or their job. The fact that it is free for any content creator attracts many, to have your own channel on YouTube one does not need require a certain set of skills or any kind of aptitude, one should have a strong will in creating attractive content which attracts subscribers and likes as well as comments to gain popularity and be a part of the trending list. There are numerous advertising channels on YouTube which make one million dollars per month.

There are several perks of being a You tube creator-

Recognition in the online community is one of the biggest perks as it allows one to become famous and gain popularity in this competitive world.

It’s a huge source of income, incase of followers-more the merrier as the more the followers more is the income, many you tubers are earning huge amounts of money specifically certain beauty vloggers and lifestyle vloggers, it has given them access to a luxurious lifestyle and has turned the table. Many have even given up their 9 to 5 jobs to become a youtuber. Some of the most famous YouTube vloggers in India are Bhuvan Bam, Ashish Chachlani, Sandeep Maheshwari or Shruthi Arjun Anand. When it comes to the International creators we find PewDiePie, Jena Marbles, Luis Alvarado (Fernanfloo), Samuel de Luque (VEGETTA777), Evan Fong (VanossGaming), Andrew Hecox and Daniel Padilla (Smosh), Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) etc. at the top.

It’s a platform where you can share your creativity, your hobbies be it cooking, makeup or even reviewing products, and it’s been a huge help especially when it comes to creating new recipes from the kitchen we can always rely on YouTube as it will give us the recipe video and the numerous options available.

Fan following and online traffic– One gains a huge momentum in both of these areas as one almost becomes a celebrity and achieves a name in the industry.79% of internet users are said to have a YouTube account.

But there are also some drawbacks

There is a lot of criticism associated with being a youtuber, especially stingy, bitter and biting comments can really shake people up in an emotional way and there are other external sources as well who will criticise you and judge you on becoming a youtuber.

Many Youtubers are completely dependent on the income coming from Youtube which can be very perilous as it’s a very unstable career and can doesn’t give one any kind of job security.

It’s a risky job, as one day you will have 80,000 followers and after a few moths you might just have 80 or you might not be trending anymore as mabey your content is not that attractive anymore or the quality of your content is not up to the mark which attracts viewers and subscribers. To keep up in the game is not an easy task. As of 2019 Youtube had around 2 billion active users.

Many Vloggers and lifestyle you tubers are giving away everything on YouTube and even if you are just a youtuber you are at risk, as one’s privacy is exposed to a great extent which can become a path to unwanted problems. Many vloggers have had cases where crazy fans have trespassed their property and invaded their privacy.

It is time consuming as one has to plan out the content, record it and edit it, one has to be considerate of the content the viewers are expecting and create content accordingly which fulfils their demands and also saw that one gains more followers and to remain in trend.

The competition is real as there are thousands of vloggers and one has to come up with unique and attractive content to remain in the limelight.

BRIDA

The book tells us the story of a young girl, Brida, who dives into sorcery and experiments with different magical traditions.

The book is about exploring life, learning to connect with your truest self, finding one’s soul mate in this life and feeling complete.  The progression of the human soul, with all its elements (feelings, memories, experiences, people around us, thoughts, actions, choices) through time, is portrayed like a charcoal sketch – black and white, stark, with elements of the distinct unknown in various shades.

Whenever you have to find about something plunge right in!

This statement sums up the whole book. It has everything summed in one book, full of supernatural affects with a pinch of reality.

The rituals and the steps, the Tradition of the Sun and the Moon, the four forms of expression of the self, and the ensuing epicenter of the book.

The main character of this story – Brida – has been portrayed beautifully. Her internal conflicts, external temptations, fears, and joy are so beautifully penned that everyone can easily connect with the character.  The conflict within all of us to be with someone whom we have known since long, or to be with someone whom we have known for a lesser time but who touches our heart more, or to just leave everything and submit ourselves to a lone path with no partner is integral to this story.

The book is a cocktail of multiple ingredients like witchcraft, religion, spirituality, magic, search for self, incarnation, soul mates, etc.  A story for the readers, inspiration for the believers and introspection for the thinkers.

Happy Reading!

How to Fight PCOS with Diet and Nutrition

Polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, is a condition that affects up to 1 in 10 women of child-bearing age. In a nutshell, PCOS is characterized by hormonal imbalances, involving not just the reproductive hormones (like estrogen and testosterone) but also hormones that regulate blood sugar, fat storage, and appetite.

Symptoms of PCOS may include painful or irregular periods, acne, abnormal hair growth, increased appetite, weight gain, and difficulty losing weight. Women with PCOS often develop metabolic syndrome, which increases your risk of heart disease and diabetes. And the reverse is also true: Women with metabolic syndrome are more likely to develop PCOS. PCOS is also a leading cause of infertility.

Common symptoms of PCOS include:

  • irregular periods or no periods at all.
  • difficulty getting pregnant (because of irregular ovulation or failure to ovulate)
  • excessive hair growth (hirsutism) – usually on the face, chest, back or buttocks.
  • weight gain.
  • thinning hair and hair loss from the head.
  • oily skin or acne.

PCOS is strongly linked with obesity—and as obesity levels have risen, PCOS has become a more common diagnosis. But there are also lean women who suffer from PCOS. Almost all women with PCOS, however, have some degree of insulin resistance, which is also known as pre-diabetes.

The first-line therapy for PCOS is a diet and lifestyle makeover with the primary goal of improving the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Here are 3 ways to start on a virtuous path.

3 WAYS TO IMPROVE INSULIN SENSITIVITY AND ALLEVIATE PCOS SYMPTOMS

Tip1: Lose weight (if you need to)

Weight loss improves insulin sensitivity and you don’t necessarily have to reach your goal weight to get this benefit. Even a modest amount of weight loss can begin to reverse symptoms of PCOS. For example, if you are 50 pounds overweight, losing 10 pounds can make a big difference in your PCOS symptoms, even though you might still be significantly overweight.

Above all, you want to lose weight at a pace you can maintain long-term. Crash diets that produce fast weight loss followed by the inevitable rebound weight gain do more harm than good.

Tip2: Be more active

Exercise is also a great way to improve insulin sensitivity. It also helps rebalance reproductive hormones. As a bonus, it can also help with weight loss. A combination of aerobic exercise (anything that gets your heart rate up for 30 minutes a day) and strength training will work best.

Tip3: Eat regularly but not too frequently

Although some people claim that eating every 2-3 hours is ideal, spacing your meals out more can help improve insulin sensitivity. Instead of having a small meal or snack every few hours, try to get used to eating a more substantial meal and then waiting 4-5 hours before eating again. For tips on how to choose foods that will keep you full longer, review my episodes on satiation and satiety.

WHAT TO EAT

High fiber foods can help combat insulin resistance by slowing down digestion and reducing the impact of sugar on the blood. This may be beneficial to women with PCOS.

Great options for high-fiber foods include:

  • cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts
  • greens, including red leaf lettuce and arugula
  • green and red peppers
  • beans and lentils
  • almonds
  • berries
  • sweet potatoes
  • winter squash
  • pumpkin

Lean protein sources like tofu, chicken, and fish don’t provide fiber but are very filling and a healthy dietary option for women with PCOS. Foods that help reduce inflammation may also be beneficial. They include:

  • tomatoes
  • kale
  • spinach
  • almonds and walnuts
  • olive oil
  • fruits, such as blueberries and strawberries
  • fatty fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon and sardines

PCOS, like many disorders, responds positively to proactive lifestyle choices. This includes exercise and daily physical movement. Both can help to reduce insulin resistance, especially when coupled with a limited intake of unhealthy carbohydrates.

Many experts agree that at least 150 minutes per week of exercise is ideal. Daily activity, low sugar intake, and a low-inflammation diet may also lead to weight loss. Women may experience improved ovulation with weight loss, so women who are obese or overweight and want to get pregnant may find physician-approved exercise especially important.

The symptoms associated with PCOS can cause stress. Stress reduction techniques, which help calm the mind and let you connect with your body, can help. These include yoga and meditation. Speaking with a therapist or other medical professional may also be beneficial.

The increasing trend of old age homes….

It is considered that taking care of the parents is the moral duty of the children. But in modern day the number and trend of old age homes are increasing day by day, which is not a good development.

Parents, who bring us to this world, who educated us, always tried their best to fulfill our dreams and demands, who always tried to keep us happy, made us what we are today, how can we simply leave them.

There are different reasons which lead to this rise in number of old age homes. The main reason is that people migrate from village to cities in order to get good education and jobs. It is easy for them to adjust in the new environment of cities but their parents don’t come with them because of the sentiments attached with that place. And when they don’t able to take care of them by themselves they have to take the shelter in the old age homes. The other reasons could be, some people don’t want to take care of their old parents who are suffering from chronic diseases and old parents who loose their motor functions due to old age, as they need intense care and their children started treating them as a burden and send them in old age homes.

Some send their parents to old age homes after marriage as their daughter-in-law want just to live with her husband and don’t want their in-laws to interfere in their life.

I know there are many other different reasons for this rising trend of old age homes, but we forgot one thing. As our parents grew old the same care and love they want as we wanted in our childhood from our parents. If then, they had simply leaved us like we are leaving them, because at that time surely they also had their social and personal life to live, then what do you think we were at the same place as we are now. Definitely not. It is because for them we are not a choice, we are their priority so why they are not our priority. It is true that we are busy in our life and if your parents are not well and if you don’t have the full time to spend time with them, hire them a nurse, spend time with them when you are free. They will feel better.

So love your parents as they have loved you or loving you. They need proper love, care and support as same you needed in your childhood which is possible in the home only. Always remember that they are your parents and it is your duty to takr care of them. So try to make them your priority, and not to make old age homes, a trend.

The First Recorded Solar Eclipse of the World

Coming across through the phone calendar, I received a notification from “OnThisDay.com” site. I saw that the year was 512 CE when an ancient Irish monastic chronicler recorded a solar eclipse.

The notification

However,in the records of history it’s not a child’s play to detect about the very first solar eclipse that occured in the world but it’s believed that the ancient Irish scholars were the first to document about a solar eclipse.

And no doubt, the Irish have a long history with eclipses. Images of the first recorded eclipse were carved into stone cairns at Loughcrew in Meath over 5,000 years ago, but one of the first eclipses, of the common era, was also recorded in Ireland, by an Irish monk on 29 June 512 CE in the Chronicle of Ireland. This reflects that they had knowledge about eclipses, astronomy, illustration as well as documentation.

Loughcrew Stone Cairns, County Meath, Ireland
Drombeg Stone Circle, County Cork, Ireland

Eclipses-

The ancient Irish have carved images of an ancient eclipse on giant stones over 5,000 years ago. The exact date has been researched as November 30, 3340 BCE,which is the oldest known recorded solar eclipse till this date.

The engravings are found in the Stone Age “Cairn L” at Loughcrew, in County Meath. “Cairn L” has been mentioned in Astronomy Ireland’s article as “Irish Recorded Oldest Known Eclipse 5,355 Years Ago.” They said that the ancient Irish priests recorded the events on three stones relating to the eclipse.

Representation of the solar eclipse. Look at the work as to how, but using concentric circles, the ancient Irish scholars tried their best to depict an eclipse.

This is amazing to claim that without the use of modern technologies, the ancient Irish constructed these complex structures and they built them with such accuracy that these structures continue to excel their performance in astronomical functions till this date.

Thus in these ways, we can figure out the fact that the ancient Irish chroniclers were the ones who excelled in the creation of the accurate illustrations of the solar eclipses, providing us a proper documentation of the same.

India’s Tech Battle Against China.

20th October 1962, the date recorded as 1st Sino-India War, and also the only War India lost post-independence. China took it as a ever warfare theory of India, and attacked in 1967 again in Nathu-La, Sikkim region, in which India succeeded in saving its territory from being annexed by the infamous cheater of the Asian Region.
China have always been immensely hungry for piece of lands, and there’s a major reason for its land hunger,  the rapidly increasing population and density per square foot. This lack of land is one of the major problem of the country which eventually leads it to several other problems of the nation, like compact industry setup, homelessness of the citizens, agricultural area shortage and many others. Instead of solving the problems by scientific method, it prefers attacking neighbour countries, and capturing their lands. Its not just India who has land dispute with this hungry nation, several other neighbouring states also has great problems with it. Hong Kong has got some very serious issues with China.
China not only posses defence threat, but also economic and political threats, too. And now as per the world countries’ allegations, it has created a health threat to the world too, the Covid-19 virus. The virus, from which the whole world population’s life is on stake. And China is busy doing dirty business in this pandemic scenario.
China which is a major manufacturer, of goods in the World, was looked forward by other nations, even the world superpower, USA. China received a bulk order for masks and sanitizers during the pandemic situation. Instead of supplying quality products to the nations, it supplied foul products with worst quality. The most sarcastic supply was made to Pakistan, China supplied bad quality underwear to Pakistan labelling as Masks. The issue didn’t stopped there the complaint was coming from Italy, U.S, Russia, Britain, France and India, too.
This economic supply warfare of China, is the worst warfare, by any nation, ever. Amidst this cheating Policy of China, India rose as a leading supplier of masks and sanitizers and medicines like Hydroxychloroquine, to the other nations, this was a great threat for Chinese economy which tried hard to stabilise itself by cheating the world. And eventually this cheating policy got exposed and China started a new policy of diversion of focus from Economic cheating to Defence Warfare. The Sino-India force Conflict in Galwan Valley was a calculated move of Xi’s dirty warfare. But, as Modi’s stubborn policy of nationalism was a great reply to Xi’s policy.
Modi, now started a new policy of economic warfare against China, this policy of Modi is a threat to Xi’s Economic policies. All Chinese tenders and projects were cancelled in India, and its states. This led to a great economic loss for China. Modi started a new IT war against China by banning its apps, which were contributing in China’s economy, and has Indian users in a great number. Tiktok is a leading Chinese application with maximum Indian users, which is banned by the Government. And several other 58 apps were banned which is a great IT threat for infamous Cheater Chinese.
India’s these Economic and IT warfare beside the defensive warfare is a remarkable policy of Modi Government of India. These policies attract several big industries and they are planning for mobilisation from the Chinese mainland to Indian Subcontinent. This economic and diplomatic warfare is not only a threat for the Chinese leaders but also a profitable move for the Indian Leaders and Creators. China needs to understand the fact that India is no more the Nehru’s India, now India has capability to attack its enemies on every front. Now, India is a  nation of strikes.

“Social Media And Us”

Social media has become an eternal part of our life and has made humans addicted to them. People follow these for the source of information, entertainment, sharing their reviews and views and spend most of their time on these. This has made everything more transparent than it used to be, thus has given the power to the common man. It not only helps to provide justice to a person, but also spread awareness about wrong being done to someone. It had brought people to stand for their rights and demand what they truly deserve.

Social media has been able to bring vast change in the life of common people, as they can:

  1.  Make friends all over the world ,they can get instant information about the person or star they are a fan of and can follow him/ her more closely
  2. Moreover, people can share their moments with others and thus can make them a part of it virtually.
  3. People have found better sources of entertainment and fun, sending memes to their closed one and thus spreading happiness.
  4.  People can spread their business and campaign about totally free as a part of social media and digital marketing. They can post out their content which can prove to be fascinating  and people might join them in their work.
  5.  Awareness about global issues can easily be spread and people around the World can be a part of this noble cause.
  6. Moreover, people can display their hidden talent which they usually are not able to do due to lack of opportunity. It thus can be called a stage for numerous activities, bringing joy to life of people and providing them a better opportunity to showcase their true identity.

But this social media has brought people close around the world but have made distance in our close relationship. People hardly talk to their close ones like their parents, friends and society members, and search for new friends online. People spread rumours about other, which could be harmful for the image of the person in the society. It also has affected the lives of people as nothing has been left private. Social media has thus created barriers and have enabled us to live in a virtual world. Students and children hardly play games and rather believe in chatting with other people, playing games on their  mobile phones and scrolling by these social media handles all day long. This has a harsh effect on their eyesight and also their behavior attributes.

People should understand the importance and true function of these social media and internet. It should be utilised for the betterment of humanity . Social media is a good source of entertainment and knowledge sometimes, but one must not forget the right way to live life. Searching for new friends on social media and not even having vocal contact with your close one makes relationships to handle hard. One should spend time on these accounts but also live life and enjoy other things which brings out an all round personality of a person.

“Thus social media is a good source for business, entertainment, knowledge but what really matters is to understand the difference between the virtuality and reality, difference between right and wrong facts , difference between truth and fiction and the difference between living and enjoying life.”

Imperfections of indian education system

What was the main reason, students were not willing to give exams? Due to the stress of incomplete syllabus or due to pandemic issue ? None of them , the main reason is our education system which do not impart students the practical knowledge but theoretical knowledge to be written in the exams to get good marks. In India, till the college life, intelligence is judged on the basis of marks rather than talent and learning abilities and every student now, only pursues marks not knowledge, so they wanted general promotion for next semester to get marks for free without studying.
A person can get good marks just by reciting everything but it can’t help them to do something innovative in future, to grow them. This is the reason india is lagging in the fields of research because the actual knowledge had not been provided to the students in their school and college life where their basic fundamentals are built up. Even if one wants to learn something extra, institutions do not provide such vital support that student needs.

Now a days, parents need to understand this fact that they should make their children a good learner, not just topper of the school or city or state or country. If their child is knowledgeable, automatically he/she can perform well in studies.

india, trend of taking science stream after 10th and further preparation of IIT or PMT exams is followed by going kota, where there are generally 2 type of students. Firstly, those who studies with full enthusiasm, gives their best, works hard, in which some of them gets what they want, and some gets depressed and many of them tries to commit suicide because they are forced to get good marks and other type of students, who just wanted to go far away from their home to enjoy their freedom and splash out their parents earning which makes no sense.

However, it’s appreciable that some of the educated parents who had faced such things knew about these situations, and they are moving forward in making their children a better citizen who can contribute greatly for a better India .

Importance of TIME in Lockdown Period…

In this year , we are fighting with a disease which has no cure and most importantly it transmits from social gathering. Due to this, Many organization’s working culture changed completely. They make the innovation idea of “Work from Home”. Through this Many people saves alot of time in travelling to reach their office. Also lots of energy also conseved through this.

This really means so much time we have for ourself. We can improve ourself in this period. For health, this is the time to accept the Yoga which is traditional exercise of our own country. And also through online study, students can strong their weak points.

But so many people are wasting this crucel time period in laziness and in sleeping, which is very dangerous for us, specially in this period in which we have to boost up our immunity.

In conclusion, we can say that time is the greatest gift of God. Moreover, there is a saying that “if you waste time, time will waste you.” Only this line is enough to justify how important and valuable time is.
