YOGA

Modern life has become more chaotic and busy. This has led to the rise of yoga. Yoga provides many other mental and physical benefits. Some of these extend to the kitchen table.

There are many types of yoga, such as Hatha. It is a type of yoga that focuses on breathing exercises and a series of asanas. The goal is to get as much done as possible while not feeling overwhelmed. This practice is focused on cultivating a calm and accepting mind and body. This activity helps develop awareness of the body’s abilities. It’s not about physical appearance. Instead of mirrors, yoga studios use mirrors to help people focus their attention on the body instead of the people around them. This allows them to focus on their breathing and awareness instead of the image of their bodies.

According to the Harvard Medical School, focusing on the present moment can improve a person’s mental health. It can also help them manage stress and improve their physical well-being. Mindful eating is a nonjudgmental approach to addressing the physical and emotional aspects of eating.

They developed a questionnaire to measure mindful eating using these behaviors:

  • Eating even when full (disinhibition)
  • Being aware of how food looks, tastes and smells
  • Eating in response to environmental cues, such as the sight or smell of food
  • Eating when sad or stressed (emotional eating)
  • Eating when distracted by other things

People who practiced yoga were more likely to eat well according to their eating scores. The study also found that the amount of practice they performed was linked to the better eating habits. People who practice yoga and eat mindfully are more aware of their bodies’ natural cues when it comes to hunger. Those who practiced yoga for at least four years had a lower BMI than those who did not.

Although yoga is known to improve a person’s mental health, it can also improve their physical fitness. For the study, researchers focused on the effects of yoga on a group of individuals who were not yet active. After eight weeks, they experienced greater flexibility and muscle strength. Several studies have shown that yoga can lower blood pressure and improve heart health. It’s believed that this practice helps the body maintain its balance and senses the pressure in the body. A study found that regular yoga practice can improve the lipid profile of patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease. It can also lower blood sugar levels and improve overall health.

Before you start a new exercise program, be sure to check with your doctor.

Researchers are also studying if yoga can help people with depression and arthritis, and improve survival from cancer.

Namaste!

Water and No Water: Wastage, Shortage and mismanagement.

Mumbai is facing a shortage of water with a third of its residents not having drinking water as per a recent report. This comes in heels with the news of massive water-logging across the city and flood-like situations. This is reminiscent of the Chennai Water Crisis in 2019 when a flood had hit the city in 2018 and in May 2019, the city declared a zero-water day – no water left in any of its reservoirs. As per statistics, in the coastal city with a medium size river flowing right through it (the famed Anna University is actually partially built on lands claimed from the river), 60% of its population relies on bottled water for drinking all year long. Was this always the case? History suggests no. But it has been so for about a decade now. This is not very shocking given that Mawsynram, the place with the highest recorded average rainfall on the planet also faces water shortage during summers!!!

Maharashtra received 17 per cent excess rainfall since June: IMD | India News,The Indian Express
A lot of rain, and yet no water to drink

Yemen – the poorest of Arab nations and a region marred by civil war and international interference for more than a decade now might also have the root of its civil war as water shortage. Let us understand that the Yemeni factions are the Houthis, the republicans – with both basically supporting their tribal interests – and a swinging group of Saudi-led forces. Records suggest that there existed blood feud between villages just because a village constructed a well very close to that of the other village. As per data, Yemen has the least water availability per capita on the planet, even inviting statements like – if water were to get exhausted on Earth, this process would begin in Yemen. This is odd, given the fact that Dubai is a sprawling metropolis situated in the same Saudi desert.

War and pieces: Political divides in southern Yemen – European Council on Foreign Relations
Yemen is the most water depreciated nation on the planet.

The situation is actually grim in many more places – Northern India – a land abundant with rivers and lakes – most of them, technically all of them polluted beyond potability. Go to Africa and the nations with rainforests and rivers are dry.

What is the cause then? We often hear of climate change. A reader would agree about the reality of climate change but would certainly not let go of the sheer amount of mismanagement involved in the handling of water resources. Governments all over the world have tried in their own way to clean water bodies – the money ending up in their coffers owing to balant corruption. In India, for instance, the Save Ganges Movement or ‘Ganga bachao abhiyaan’ in the vernacular has been a project spanning over three decades and costing lakhs of crores – the best part – to no result. NGOs and villagers have often revived water bodies across the planet showing the importance of public participation in government or local initiatives. But, the people aren’t really very concerned about this issue it seems. It might find itself in discussions during summers or in newspapers – but people refuse to consider it as a problem as grim as climate change. No one can imagine the change Chennai saw with themselves.

‘Democracy’ and a tale of Power Vacuums

Some 50 years ago, the British left the Palestinian territories in a bitter tussle between the Jewish and the Arabic groups. The Empire had similar history in the Indian subcontinent. The tensions were partly fueled at the end of the empire – in the Indian subcontinent, it was the promise of an Islamic nation to the Muslims of the Raj; in Palestinian Mandate region, it was the bias of British army against the Arabs and its inability to stop the Jewish immigration – and at the end, the Empire simply left the factions to fend for themselves.

Fast forward a couple of decades. Iraq was invaded by the US and between Iraq and Israel was the obvious tussle between USSR and USA – leading to the formation of many small and conflicting regions and factions supporting free market democracy or communism. The fall of the USSR left a vacuum China quickly filled up. However, the withdrawal of the US forces from Iraq did not result in the rise of a stable power, but rather it escalated tensions and led to the creation and establishment of the alleged ISIS caliphate.

In fact, even in Afghanistan, the chief cause of the crisis was the cold war that led to the Soviet Afghan war and an eventual push of the Mujahideen forces that ultimately became the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 and is now leaving the country without any conclusive results – paving way to yet another possible and quite imminent crisis.

The Kosovo crisis and the NATO invasion of Libya in 2011 also left the said regions with a still ongoing power struggle that has led to massive humanitarian crisis there. Libya allegedly has open markets for slave trading today. Not to forget that the infamous Boko Haram held large swaths of land during the time ISIS was at the pinnacle of its power.

These are not the only examples of power vacuums. But the ones that were created in the name of freedom, democracy and liberty – but led to crisis that no one talks of any more.

What do you think about the ways in which contemporary history has played out? Could there be better ways? Can there be steps that can still be taken for the better?

Definition and Examples of Standard British English
Modern history has been about the establishment of power vacuums resulting in some really dangerous results.

Simple tactics for your homely gadgets to boost up

WAYS BY WHICH YOU CAN MAKE YOUR PC RELIABLE AND MULTI-FUNCTIONING ESPECIALLY YOUR LATEST VERSION OF WINDOWS 10

Laptops and computers are the favorable gadgets for remote places to work, entertain, play games and much more. Note a point that nearly 9 out of 10 people in every society and neighborhood own their piece of this tech all over the world. It helps you in many ways of business, entertainment, virtual meeting and much more utilities.

It can be a boon or bane depending on the purposes it is used and in this hectic world without a computer it is not an easy task to spend even a single minute as the life cycle has started running on this online and technology platform already. This may suit any professional or beginner working at home with your school or office projects.

As your every schedule is online from school till extra-curricular activities like dance, drawing etc. Imagine a situation in this pandemic without a PC on your own. You will have to hang out on mobiles but not all the work can be done simultaneously at once like a PC anyway. As it may lead to mental depression and frustration of delay in your task assigned that has to be completed beforehand.

Situations are similar like I’ve described above as at those occasions you have to wander for help to complete your work with someone else’s property.

It has become a necessity that as the system of life and roles of every position/job changes you have to cope up and adopt these items even if you are reluctant about it.

So, after working for long hours like humans, computers also slow down its speed of processing things. Generally in advance we encounter them often for our simultaneous tasks done at the same time. Hence there are some simple ways where you can make them active or energize them to regain their performance speed and generate outputs fer your inputs.

Let me list down some basic ways that help you out in opting/selecting a appropriate way to enhance your CPU or processor it its utmost fastness

  1. Keep a track on upgrades for your PC for software or drivers

You might notice that your version of any feature/tool inside our gadget gets outdated often, so downloading recent releases of it helps it to run faster thus avoiding the arena of entering troubleshoots. Especially for Windows 10 you need to update versions here and there so it won’t disable automatically.

Just get the Start button on your left corner then choose the settings option available in the menu where you get a main page so there you can find Update & Security choice under that you can look out for your esteemed Windows updates where it automatically checks whether your PC needs to be updated or not.

If you are up to date leave it or install the categories you require by selecting them.

  1. Use only the required ones and restart often

It is important that you refresh before you start working on it as it randomly speeds up by refreshing. Work only on the plugins that you need instead of starting every API in your computer that will make your system get hung or struck off. If you feel like your PC is not up to that efficient earlier restart several times until it gets back to the previous speed it was earlier.

Don’t let more files run in your background as it affects the functionality of the RAM and processor speed eventually. Still, you don’t find your issue solved, enter Troubleshoot settings under the type troubleshoot where the program diagnoses your troubles and receives your opinion to sort it out.

  1. Optimize and enhance your space on disk

Hence if you don’t get resolved under the above criteria try to view the empty space on your computers, if is low free some spaces by uninstalling some contents that haven’t been used for years. Also optimize and clean your CPU or in-built CPU with some apps that totally stops its working. These temporary files are the prompt trouble makers so literally remove them totally by deleting or disabling them.

So, these are my own simple steps to make your personal PC or laptops run faster and flexible up to your requirement. These will really help you out as I have tried them multiple times under my supervision that give better results/ came out perfect.

If you know any way to customize so to reduce the load on your PC’s definitely you can. All these ways can also be used under the latest, advanced version (Windows 10) as it gave me a fruitful result again and again obviously.

Olympics

The modern Olympic Games or Olympics are leading international sporting events featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered the world’s foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating. The Olympic Games are normally held every four years, alternating between the Summer and Winter Olympics every two years in the four-year period.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, leading to the first modern Games in Athens in 1896. The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement with the Olympic Charter defining its structure and authority.

The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has resulted in several changes to the Olympic Games. Some of these adjustments include the creation of the Winter Olympic Games for snow and ice sports, the Paralympic Games for athletes with disabilities, the Youth Olympic Games for athletes aged 14 to 18, the five Continental games (Pan American, African, Asian, European, and Pacific), and the World Games for sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games. The IOC also endorses the Deaflympics and the Special Olympics. The IOC has needed to adapt to a variety of economic, political, and technological advancements.

The Olympic Movement consists of international sports federations (IFs), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and organising committees for each specific Olympic Games. As the decision-making body, the IOC is responsible for choosing the host city for each Games, and organises and funds the Games according to the Olympic Charter. The IOC also determines the Olympic programme, consisting of the sports to be contested at the Games. There are several Olympic rituals and symbols, such as the Olympic flag and torch, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. Over 14,000 athletes competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 Winter Olympics combined, in 35 different sports and over 400 events. The first, second, and third-place finishers in each event receive Olympic medals: gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.

The Games have grown so much that nearly every nation is now represented. This growth has created numerous challenges and controversies, including boycotts, doping, bribery, and a terrorist attack in 1972. Every two years the Olympics and its media exposure provide athletes with the chance to attain national and sometimes international fame. The Games also provide an opportunity for the host city and country to showcase themselves to the world.

The Olympic Games programme consists of 35 sports, 30 disciplines and 408 events. For example, wrestling is a Summer Olympic sport, comprising two disciplines: Greco-Roman and Freestyle. It is further broken down into fourteen events for men and four events for women, each representing a different weight class. The Summer Olympics programme includes 26 sports, while the Winter Olympics programme features 15 sports. Athletics, swimming, fencing, and artistic gymnastics are the only summer sports that have never been absent from the Olympic programme. Cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, ski jumping, and speed skating have been featured at every Winter Olympics programme since its inception in 1924. Current Olympic sports, like badminton, basketball, and volleyball, first appeared on the programme as demonstration sports, and were later promoted to full Olympic sports. Some sports that were featured in earlier Games were later dropped from the programme.

Olympic sports are governed by international sports federations (IFs) recognised by the IOC as the global supervisors of those sports. There are 35 federations represented at the IOC.There are sports recognised by the IOC that are not included in the Olympic programme. These sports are not considered Olympic sports, but they can be promoted to this status during a programme revision that occurs in the first IOC session following a celebration of the Olympic Games.

“Toy Story” that came back in 4 episodes

Signs of true friendship are proverbial when two long-time friends meet for the first time in a long time, resume from where they left off, and easily reconnect with meaningful relationships.
Randy Newman’s eternal “You`ve Got Friend Rice” echoes in the opening credits, despite some indifference that he felt when another piece of the “Toy Story” franchise was released. Cross. Some Aspects of “Toy Story” Eduun Intimate people will soon feel at home.
“Toy Story 4” begins in heavy rain, turning time somewhere between the adventures of the second and third movies. Separated, but sets the tone of the intensity movie.
Back to the present, we show Woody and the gangsters playing the role of children’s toys just beginning the first day of kindergarten in a new environment. Seeing her struggling to adjust to the surroundings, and while battling his own self-doubts, Woody provides the material for creating a story known as Bonnie and her own friend, Pokey. Of course, not everything goes as planned. Pocky faces an existential crisis and believes himself to be trash, despite the dark humor and, in some cases, lobbying for the trash. When the moment comes when Fore Key needs ups and downs, of course Woody comes up and makes Bonnie happy and is determined to keep his group intact.
The engaging set pieces here are memorable new characters, fresh and fun added to the story with some hysterical moments, and most importantly, the uncertainty of whether or not it might feel worth it. originally needed. Anyone who hates
creepy dolls will have to apply the same resistance to not only go to the cinema to escape the recent “children’s game” movie, but also watch this particular movie given the presence of perhaps four significant threatening ventriloquist dolls. Under Gyabi Gyabi’s care, they are disobedient dolls that do what she can to win the love and attention of the children who give birth to her. Although not as emotionally appealing as seeing
‘s beloved character treat his death at the end of the final movie, Toy Story 4 has come to a satisfying conclusion. It was actually revealed this time. If “Toy Story” comes back from the other side for 5 episodes, it’s probably because there’s a story to tell. And we now trust the filmmakers to pass it on. They haven’t disappointed us until now.

Forget the results(no matter how good or bad)- Class 12

Photo by MART PRODUCTION on Pexels.com

Today, CBSE, The central board of secondary education, has released the class 12th board exam results. According to the statistics available on the internet, we have achieved an overall pass percentage of 99.37 %. That’s an incredible high score, one we aren’t going to break for years, or dare I say, decades to come. And, so unlike many of your relatives or friends or neighbours or acquaintances, I won’t ask your result but I do offer my congratulations.

The CBSE did not conduct the exam this year. And so, though many of you might argue, and rightly so, this grading system wasn’t exactly fair- to those who worked hard throughout the year and didn’t get what they were capable of and to those who didn’t work at all but manage a very decent score, to those who had no access to digital media and to those who had every gadget at their disposal, to those who gave exams last year and to those who will give theirs next.

From the toppers to those who barely made it past the line, everyone do seem to have one thing one mind though. It could have been better. But now that it isn’t, I wish to ask what would have happened with that better result. For a day or two your parents would have been happy, treated you with gifts, but then the third day you would have done something to piss them off and things would have returned to normal. Your neighbours might have praised you in the beginning, but then hey would have found some other thing to bitch about you. Your friends would have been happy or jealous depending on what kind you have but then you would have went to separate colleges and those friends would have been long forgotten. In that new college, though, no one would have given a damn about your result. And this is how the desired ‘better’ result would have made no difference in your result, whatsoever.

Now, many of you might say that a better result means a better college, better career prospects. To all those I would say that it might give you a better kickstart but it certainly cannot dictate your future. Also, it isn’t the only way to kickstart your career . We are Gen-Z. We need not always need support. If you have talent, then I am sure by now you know that you can showcase it to a very large audience, a better one in many cases if you just go on the internet. From the top bollywood musicians to national as well as international public, your music travel oceans and producers. We have all heard ‘Anuv Jain’ or ‘When chai met toast’ or seen ‘Bhuvan Bam’, ‘Tanmay Bhatt’ or ‘Zakir Khan’. Love to cook? Ever heard of ‘Kavita’s Kitchen’. Love to dance? Go see ‘Naach’. We live in the era of talent. Talent and the courage to give it a go and to keep going is all you need. From google to amazon, the top recruiters visit your Github or codechef profile. Participating in international hackathons is just a click away. So, it isn’t as if just an exam hinders our career prospects.

And, at last, this exam was just that- an exam. If you disappointed yourself or your family or your teachers or anyone anywhere, do not worry my friend for you have lived atleast 16 years of your life and you have so many more to live. You have already disappointed them more times than you could count and you will disappoint them in the future, for I don’t know- a million more times, until that one day when you won’t.

Oh! and if you didn’t this time then kindly skip the first two lines of the previous paragraph and read again. It is an infinite loop, you end up disappointing someone with almost every activity (including yourself) until the day when you don’t and then you again do. And the loop repeats. So, why worry instead of preparing for the moment that is somewhere along the path you are currently traversing? That one moment of pride holds the burden of making up for all the disappointments you met along the way and holds the strength for all those you will meet in the future. So why not reduce the load?

“Once upon a time…in Hollywood”: A strange and satisfying ode to the lost era

Think of your favorite Quentin Tarantino movie and focus on one moment in it. Can you imagine “Pulp Fiction” and Samuel L. Jackson’s evocative speech “Ezekiel 25:17”? Or maybe you are in love with Colonel Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz in “Inglourious Basterds,” and bring bad luck with a glass of fresh milk.
No matter which moment you choose, it can be a scene of intense, vivid, and often unprovoked violence before or after it. Tarantino has always been controversial. His films are respected and insulted. They present ruthless chaos and humorous scenes on our screens. At the very least, these scenes are already in our memory. They left a footprint.
If this is Tarantino what you are looking for, then it is best to browse through his catalog of eight films, because “in the past … in Hollywood” was a completely different creation.
With the vibrant and immersive California of 1969 as a backdrop, Hollywood’s so-called golden age is coming to an end and the adoration of Charles Manson is imminent. Tarantino abandoned the main point of the plot and went back to exploring and felt almost overwhelmed. the day job of actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his great, effortless stuntman / best friend Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Dalton is obsessed with the rest of his decaying television and film career, while the studio has long viewed Booth as an unnecessary and unwanted person. As a driver, a handyman, and perhaps the most relevant thing is the emotion. The support provider remains on your personal payroll. Belonging to an era full of colors, hippies, and social divisions, the couple was unaware of their status, and they twisted and twisted in their lives, neither charming enough to be truly elitist nor gloomy enough to be worthy of true sympathy.
If this rather abstract film is uncomfortably classified, the most appropriate description is a lighthearted buddy comedy. DiCaprio and Pete are two of the most famous stars of their time. Their cast is perfect and they inject warmth and “credibility” into the characters who stumbled to find their goals in an ever-changing world. The movie is lazily described as a love letter to Hollywood, but there may be real elements hidden in it. Either Tarantino proved that in the era of Marvel and Marvel, the original plays starring Aris actors may still be successful or, on the contrary, he is offering his bittersweet odes and goodbyes to the movies of the past.
Although slight by the standard that people expect from the Tarantino film, the film is the beginning of a conversation and changes each time it is re-watched, providing a window into Hollywood’s past. Of course, there are moments of tension and violence, but they are rare and far apart. This movie wants to take you on a leisurely tour of the sunny boulevards of Los Angeles, but you don’t need to wear a seat belt-take off your shoes, sit back and enjoy the journey.
(PD: Tarantino once again gave up historical accuracy to provide a “hypothesis?” ending.

Violent and sincere, “Joker” is not a joke

The film industry generally believes that the original “King Kong” is an allegory of African colonialism and the slave trade. Filmmakers, including Quentin Tarantino, believe that it doesn’t matter whether this is the intention of the 1933 film: this is the film made, influenced by the subjective worldview and the subconscious mind of the people involved. Influence. Production:
This brings us to “Joker”, which is the most anticipated movie of 2019 and one of the most controversial works this year. The audience paid attention to the origin of the notorious super villain, watched the beginning of the man behind the make-up, and watched him deal with the harsh struggle of daily life in Gotham City where crime and rats are infested. Here, men reflect the city: isolation, frustration, jealousy and anger, on the verge of collapse.
There is so much discussion about “Joker” that another personal comment can get lost in the vortex of noise. As more and more people get a chance to see this movie, the noise will get louder. However, I have to say: “Joker” is a powerful, inspiring and effective movie. For better or for worse, it is important and relevant, because it is so close to home, it is very scary, reflecting the negative and cynical atmosphere of most people in modern Western society.
So we go back to the “King Kong” comparison: it doesn’t matter if this explanation is the intention of director Todd Phillips and his team. This is the movie they made. This is how “Joker” has been and will continue to be understood: a fable that observes the worst factors in society with a microscope, and illustrates its main theme in an overly stylized, cinematic presentation.
“Joker” is without a doubt a win for the movie. Joaquin Phoenix (Joaquin Phoenix) injects charm into this character, and I daresay that sympathy should make you and your cognitive dissonance uncomfortable. Although his affected and smooth movements are equally exciting and tempting, this man was pushed to the brink by the suffering of his survival today, and he acted in unexpected but violent ways, making him the vanguard and center of a society that rejected him. He achieved the fame he was seeking in a much more twisted way than he had imagined, but it still came. The stark iteration of this role makes you wonder, despite everything he has done and will do, can you understand his point of view?
This is a movie of serious choice—choosing to feature the original and dark version of Joker, killing people suddenly, cruelly and unceremoniously. Demonstrate options for a complete Joker transition with Gary Glitter songs. As my good friend Joe said, the decision to let filmmakers know about a film can be interpreted as a “call” to dissatisfied people in society. These choices have now been made. Whatever happens, inside and outside the film industry, one thing is certain: we will talk about “clowns” for a long time.

Review – Knvies Out

The era of the “Whodunnit” has passed, which, if Kenneth Branagh’s clumsy 2017 adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express” is any indication, is a good thing.

In “Knives Out,” a modern murder mystery with an interesting plot and indisputably excellent cast, director Rian Johnson gives us an updated take on this structure just a few years later.

The answer is yes! “From the very beginning, “Knife Out” brought the audience into its world, juxtaposing the classic tone of the format with a more modern collection of scenes and characters. The main location of the story, a house, an isolated field, Direct shot from the “Whodunnit” script, it perfectly presents and contains old and new trinkets, including intricate ornaments and secret windows, as well as elegant environments and challenging coffee cups, which read: “My home.” My rules. My coffee. “The most important thing is that this film strikes the right balance between simplicity and complexity, while also paying tribute to the films that inspired it and gave them new changes.
The central theme of the story is the aftermath of the hypothetical suicide of Harlan Sloby (Christopher Plummer). Harlan Sloby (Christopher Plummer) is a well-known crime writer and a well-rounded crime writer. Popular tycoons, thieves, and leech gang patriarchs can hardly be described as a family. With the arrival of the famous private investigator Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), the investigation that was about to end became a murder investigation: everyone is a suspect. The first act of film
is admirably sharp and graceful, promoted with effortless composure and humor through preliminary interviews with each character. Each character has been revealed to have a potential motivation to bring Harlan to the afterlife, but this is the situation surrounding death. How and when did someone in the family act like this?
In fact, this movie can be described as a long red herring, leading the audience down a fascinating path, holding our attention tightly until … nothing. However, the excellent performance of “Blade Out of the Sheath” ultimately disappointed him, and the story built to the point where it was almost impossible for most of the characters to support murder, except for one or more of its characters. It was. The identity of the killer or murderer is so obvious that it is almost unbelievable – the audience is likely to expect an additional turning point, unfortunately, it did not appear.
This is not to say that this movie is not worth your time or money. This is a lighthearted, fascinating, self-aware, interesting and sometimes very interesting game, each actor is as close to his Agame as possible. For you to guess if your two-hour runtime is satisfying enough, it can be worse than being a little hobbyist detective on a rainy winter day.

Gandhi’s Concept of Bread Labour and Sarvodaya

Mahatma Gandhi are one of the legend figures associated with India and it’s Independence. Born on 2 October 1869, Gandhi Ji always stood strong about their principles. Two of their very famous principles; Bread Labour and Sarvodaya are explored in this article.

Bread Labour is a concept that is referred to as a blessing to those who observe non-violence and worship truth. When we talk about labour there exists two types of labour, manual labour and intelligence labour. Manual labour, as the name suggests refers to work that includes physical handwork like carpentry or labours that help in construction works. Intelligence labour talks about work that uses the intellect of a human being for example scientists, teachers, salesmen etc.

Gandhi advocated that an individual must labour to fulfil their daily needs and desires but along with this the individual should also make use of their intellect to help others and provide service to mankind. E.g. NGOs, social workers who labour for the well-being of others.

Gandhi ji first practiced the ideal of Bread Labour in Phoenix Settlement and Tolstoy farm in South Africa. Bread labour was a compulsion for certain hours of every day in the ashrams and people performed activities like agriculture, dairying, weaving, carpentry etc.

When Gandhi ji returned to India he continued with the bread labour concept in his Sabarmati Ashram along with providing people with basic educational activities. The reason why Gandhi ji strongly believed in Bread Labour and encouraged it was because he believed that upon the adoption of bread labour, we will have a classless and casteless society.

Gandhi ji also said that a rich man cannot forever be happy with his riches and will someday get bored of them.  And that this rich man will be able to understand others and feel satisfied only when he takes upon physical work and engages in the activity of bread labour.

In his concept of Sarvodaya Gandhi ji explores a more a comprehensive, social, economic, political, moral and spiritual philosophy.

Sarvodaya is a term meaning ‘Universal Uplift’ or ‘Progress of All’. It is based on the principle of duties rather than rights of individuals. It lays great emphasis on moral and spiritual values. It seeks to create new social and economic values.

The term was first coined by Mohandas Gandhi as the title of his 1908 translation of John Ruskin’s tract on political economy, “Unto This Last”, and Gandhi came to use the term for the ideal of his own political philosophy.

Gandhi advances the concept of Sarvodaya, which were the based on three basic principles:

  1. That the good of the individual is contained in the good of all.
  2. That a lawyer’s work has the same value as the barber’s in as much as all have the same right of earning their livelihood from their work.
  3. That is a life of labour, i.e., the life of the tiller of the soil and the handicraftsman is the life worth living.

Gandhi ji were of the firm view that the earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not for every man’s greed. The concept of possession yields places to the concept of trusteeship. In the Sarvodaya society of Gandhi ji’s dream, therefore, every member will be free from any greed for limitless acquisition of material wealth and more and more luxurious living and they will follow the motto of simple living and high thinking. Everyone will, thus, get ample opportunity to produce and earn sufficiently through honest work for decent and dignified living. Consequently there will be no problem of unemployment.

In short we can say that the concept of Sarvodaya and Bread Labour is for the betterment of the society and holds a significant role even today in its application.

Tiger conservation: Strides and hurdles

On International Tiger Day( July 29), Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed that the government is committed to ensuring safe habitats for tigers and nurturing tiger- friendly ecosystems in India, home to over 70% of the world’s tiger population.

The last tiger census (2018) pegged the big cat’s population at 2967, marking an increase of about 30% compared to the 2014 report ( 2226). In 2010, India had 1706 tigers, while in 2006 it was 1411. India’s tiger conservation journey started in 1973 with Project Tiger with nine reserves; today, it has 50 tiger reserves in 18 states.

The steady growth in the number of tigers and reserves happened because of state support; vigilance and conservation efforts by the forest department, especially its frontline staff; and the involvement of local communities that help secure forests and participate in ecotourism activities in many of the popular and revenue – generating tiger reserves.

While increased protection has encouraged tigers to breed, it has also led to migration from the safety of reserves. Once they leave the park, big cats encounter a different world.

The Management Effectiveness Evaluation of Tiger Reserves 2018 report shows that at least half of the 50 tiger reserves are facing threats from linear infrastructure ( roads, highways, and railway lines), fragmented forest corridors, poaching, pressure of human – wildlife conflict, mining, improper garbage disposal, and pollution.

About 20% of the reserves have unsustainable pressure from pilgrims visiting temples inside them.

India has made progress, but must remain acutely conscious of the need for the need for the tiger conservation.
