The Haunted Midnight Bus of Beijing

You all must have heard of mysterious things like a mythical creature being spotted somewhere or someone experiencing something out of this world. People have even claim to have seen Aliens on above. People have came out with their own experiences about having encounter something that is not easy to believe. Most of the time we don’t even believe what the person is saying no matter how hard they try.

For them its just a story. People ignore it by saying that why it ever happens to them or why they don’t feel it. Well, what is there are several people witnessing it and there is nothing to prove it wrong.

Yes, this incident is something that happened in and to a bus so it is witnessed by more than one person . There are even many things to prove that the incident is nothing normal.

The incident took place in November of 1995. Bus number 375 off from Yuan Min in Beijing, China. The bus had two passengers and driver and conductor. The bus passengers were a student and an old lady. At one stop a couple enters the bus. Everything was normal and fine until the bus stopped for two persons. It was quite late and the bus was the last bus on that route. so, the driver stooped the bus to let them come in. But when the bus stopped they saw that it was not two but three people.

There were three people, in which two of them have old the third one as he was sick or unconscious.

They entered the bus and everyone was quite surprised to see them. All of them had clothes that were used in the era of 1600 to 1900s. But the ignored it. Another thing that was a little weird about them was that their skin was too white. It did not seem natural it was almost pale.

The bus conductor jokingly said that they might be actors and that’s why they had this uniform and makeup on them. The bus continued on its way. Later on a stop the couple who took the bus earlier got off.

Now there were 7 people in the bus. The old lady was sitting in the middle seat and the student was sitting in front of her and the three people who got in earlier were siting behind her. The lady was continuously looking at the passengers sitting behind her.

The Haunted Midnight Bus of Beijing

Suddenly she started yelling that the boy who was siting in front of her has stolen her purse. She complains to conductor that the boy has stolen her purse. But the boy kept refusing and said that how can he take her purse when is the one sitting ahead of her. He kept on insisting that its impossible for him to take the purse from her. The allegation turns into an argument and the old lay demands to go to the police station straight form the bus.

But the driver cannot go out of the route he was suppose to follow. So, he suggests that they go to the Police Station on their own. The bus stops at one of the bus stop and both the lady and the student get off the bus. As both of them get off the bus the boy asks the lady why she was wrongly accusing him. The lady told him that all that she did was to save both of their lives.

The boy got confused and asked her to clarify what she was talking about. The lady told him that she was continuously keeping an eye on those three persons. One time she saw that they had no legs when a blow of air came from wind. She also told him that the faces of those three people kept on changing and were getting bizarre. The boy was unable to believe cause he did not saw anything like that. Both of them went to police station and told the police everything that happened.

Police as usually thought that both of them had an argument and the lady was old so she might have had some misconception. They get their information and then tell them to leave.

The Haunted Midnight Bus of Beijing

But next morning a shocking thing happens. Bus number 375 never reached the BUS DEPOT. The bus was supposed to come back to its depot after its last route but it never did. The manager tried everything but he was not able to find anything about the bus. There was no information about the bus, the driver and conductor and the passengers of the bus.

Now the missing of the bus was reported to the police and they started looking for the bus. The CCTV s were available. So police started checking the footage. But shockingly the bus was not captured in of the camera after the lady and the boy got of the bus. There were four more stops after that and the bu was not captured on any of them.

But them remember about how the old lady and the boy came to report the same bus. They cal them again and start asking questions. The old lady repeats the whole scenario and tells them everything she told last night. The news spread like wild fire and it was everywhere. The description given by The old lady lead to everyone on the same conclusion that the three men she was talking about were non other than ghosts.

Soon a report is made about a bus being drowned in a river in Beijing. They check the bus and it was the same missing Bus. They check the bus and find five dead bodies in the bus. This was not all. The bodies of Driver and conductor were not that rotten as the bodies of the three men.The bodies of thee men were totally decomposed and it was not possible to happen in two days. And even if it was then why it did not happened to all the bodies.

The autopsy showed that the driver and conduct died from drowning but the three men were dead before bus got into water. It was all a mystery in itself when the manager of the bus revealed something more mysterious. The manager told the police that the buses are fueled up at the depot only and the refill is made only for the bus to complete its route. The drivers are not allowed to fuel up the buses anywhere else. If the driver tries that it would lead him to loosing his job.

In order to confirm if the driver did refilled the fuel or not, The police checked the fuel tank and it was another unsolved mystery. The fuel tank was full of blood. It was all kept on getting mysterious and Mysterious. So there were a lot of questions like how did bus went at the place it was found when it was 100 of km far from its stop point. Secondly how did they dies and what happened to those three men. Who were the? and why their bodies were so decomposed.

The questions are still unanswered and people still don’t know what really happened on that bus. This became a legend in China and people stopped using the route 375 totally. The route was considered haunted after the incident and the mystery of the midnight bus is still unsolved.

SO, What do you think happened on the bus and what was the reason behind the different way of bodies being decompose. Tell you thoughts in the comments and stay with us for more interesting things like this.

Generation Gap

Maya Angelou quoted, “I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life. ” It is indeed the truth. Lately I have been thinking a lot about relationship between parents and child nowadays.

Though we love our parents more than anything in this world and so they do. It is of no question that our parents took care of us and will always do, no matter how old we become. But, don’t you think that these days parents-child conflict are increasing way too much? What could be the reason behind that?

The first thing that comes in our mind is obviously generation gap and it’s true. Why generation gap? It is basically age gap between parents and children. However, the major issue arrives due to the mental gap in terms of thinking and current trends. These days, children, mostly teenagers believe that they are grown-ups and it’s high time for them to be independent. This helps them to gain more self-esteem. On the whole, both parents and children do not see things from the standpoint of each other and thus leads to conflict.

Some teenagers feel that their parents should trust them and give them freedom but they also know that parents are more concerned about their safety, which sometimes make children irritated.

Technology also affects the relationship between them. Technological ability is also important. Parents might not learn technology as quick as teenagers and when they try to learn from them, they get impatient. Our world keeps changing and developing, things rarely stay the same, causing generation gaps between the parents and their children.

Below are some of the significant points which need to be understood.

• Parents often do not tolerate mistakes and tend to tell their children off. They need to understand that this is their learning phase and making mistakes will make them grow in life, but if they only get punished for it, it widens the gap and creates a lack of proper communication.

• Children are expected to be replicas of parents often have dreams for their kids. They should not impose their wish on them without knowing what they want.

• Comparing children to each other or telling them how you were as a child also widens the gap. Due to this, they lose confidence and enthusiasm they may previously had.

• Lack of understanding is also the major cause. Listening and understanding what a children is trying to convey could be a good step. But, it is lacking these days. Parents often feel like because they have already been the age their child is currently, that they understand how their child thinks. They should understand things have changed from then to now.

Now, how to solve these problems? Here are some ways :

  1. Keep an open mind – The way that kid think is different from how parents do. Keeping an open mind and not assuming that they are same as you were at their age is very important. You must also understand that there are some things that are acceptable in society and therefore acceptable to your child that may not have been acceptable when you were the same age.
  2. Communicate – Taking out time to communicate with your kids will be very helpful. Your child must feel comfortable to talk to you about anything. The children must be assured that they can approach their parents with anything and can speak freely without any fear. And this way parents need not to worry about their children hiding thing from them.
  3. Listen – Parents need to allow their kids time to talk without interruption and listen to what they have to say. Learning your child’s thoughts and opinions makes them feel like what they want or feel matters to you, which in turn makes them feel much closer to you than before. Having a parent who listens as well instead of only talks and lectures will give your child more encouragement to listen to you in return.
  4. Understand – With listening comes understanding and this means that you have to learn to put yourself in your child’s shoes and trying to understand how they feel and what they want from what they tell you. If you are able to understand where your child is coming from, you will be able to close that generation gap to some extent.
  5. Unconditional Love – Love has a way of crossing boundaries and bringing people together if acted upon. So show your children how much you love them. This unconditional love and support that they get from you is very encouraging and makes children more inclined to show that same love and understanding back.

In the end, I would like to mention that children should also treat parents with love and affection because they did and are doing a lot for you everyday that is unnoticed. Your one word of affection can make their day. No matter how miserable you feel while they’re scolding you, never stop respecting them.

History behind writing!

“Writing to me, is simply thrilling to my fingers”. This quote is said by Issac Asimov. The art in itself, is not only a thrilling one; but its arrival denotes a thriving change that has happened in the history. With the invention of writing, transition has occured from prehistoric culture to historic one. It enabled the ancestors to record the past for the sake of upcoming generations. Initially writing was used to document, trade transaction which takes precedence over the drafting of chronicles; which served to restore the thoughts of the ancestors.

The first writing systems have been pictographic. The ancient Egyptian texts were written in hieroglyphs, a highly developed and complicated pictographic language that was used, for nearly 3000 years. Each words that we consider as older in their etymology, had its own symbol. The earliest writing systems was discovered around 3300 B.C. in the Sumerian city of Uruk in Mesopotamia. The code of Hammurabi was developed by the king in such name which did not live until some 1500 years later. This code was written in the cueniform script; which arised out of scratching the symbols on clay, and it became wedge-shaped.

Cueniform gave rise to logographic writing system in which a single word is represented by one symbol. The stock of symbols became large as such, Chinese had used nearly 50,000 symbols. Currently most of the writing systems in the world are alphabetic. Each alphabetic language is denoted by its own mother tongue of the place such as Cryillic, Arabic and Latin. Such writing systems are phonographic as they are related to sounds, though sounds and writing cannot always coincide.

5 reasons you should be looking for a New Job

The day you start a new job is the day to begin planning for the next one, say experts. Such advice may sound pessimistic and even betray a lack of confidence in one’s own abilities, but it reflects a level of truism. Shutting out the job market may mean missing out on important opportunities for career growth. Worse, you could find yourself stranded if circumstances forced you to quit your current job.

Irrespective of whether you are happy or not in your existing job, there are major advantages to keeping your eyes and ears open for new employment opportunities.

1.You may become a victim of restructuring and cutbacks

The global economy might be inching back towards normalcy after the recent financial meltdown but restructuring and cutbacks remain a way of life in the corporate world. The growing scarcity of resources, coupled with increasing competition, means businesses are constantly forced to reform and streamline to remain competitive. This means that your job is constantly on the line—along with everybody else’s at the company. Layoffs are a persistent threat in any corporation and it helps to be prepared should the axe fall on you.

2.Changes at the top may not bode well for you

Acquisitions, takeovers, mergers and demergers are various ways in which corporations reinvent themselves to rationalize costs or add to profits. Such decisions, while they are taken at the very top, have an impact on all the company’s employees. As a result, a steady job today could become a shaky one tomorrow. If you’ve kept your ears to the ground, you’ll get a head start on the job-hunting process, when the time comes.

3.It’s a great way to network

If you’re called in to meet a potential employer, make sure you meet up, even if you’re not looking for a change. Networking is an important means of career growth, and applying to jobs and turning up for interviews will help you get to know key people in your industry if nothing else. You may be unwilling to switch companies at the time of meeting the hiring manager, but when the time does come and you’re ready, you’ll have access to the relevant people. Stay in touch with them and enter into discussions when the time is right. If you’ve managed to impress them enough, on the other hand, they might just make you an offer that is too good to refuse!

4.It keeps you abreast of industry developments

Sometimes, being employed with one company for a long span of time comes with the accompanying danger of being shut out from the latest developments taking place in your sector. Scanning advertisements and sending out applications regularly will keep you informed of industry movements and the skills you need to develop to stay relevant in the job market. In addition, it will also give you a sense of what demand there is for someone with your skills and experience as well as the salary you can expect were you to leave the company.

5.You can practise your interviewing skills

Interviewing for a job can be quite an ordeal, but it gets easier with practice and a little practical advice. If you find a job opening that interests you, apply. Turning up for job interviews even when you are not actively looking for a job will polish your interview skills and serve as preparation for crucial ones later.

Now the bottom line is lulled into complacency in our existing jobs, most of us rarely spend any time scouring the job market when we are not actively looking for a change. But being proactive about a job search has several advantages and may even help you make the career move of your dreams.

Money making tips for college students

I’ve said countless times that there are hundreds of ways to make money, especially in college. What limits people from doing it is all internal – not external. They make excuses for themselves: I don’t have enough time or I don’t know where to start. Well, today I’m eliminating some of those excuses. Here’s my list of 8 ways to make money in college. Seriously, I brain-dumped every idea I could think of to make money into this list. Some of them you’ve heard plenty of times before. Others might be new to you. To help organize the list, here are the categories I’ve assigned to the different tasks. I tried to list it most lucrative to least lucrative, but all of these items have their pros and cons.

Entrepreneurship

Being your own entrepreneur is extremely rewarding, and it can be extremely lucrative for college students and recent graduates. These next money-making ideas are bucketed in this category because your earnings are only limited by your own internal drive.

1.Start A Blog Or Website

If you really want to make money online, you need to start a blog or website. This is your home base for everything that you do online, and it, by itself, can turn into a hugely profitable venture.

2.Freelance Write For Blogs And Businesses

Freelancing writing is one of the easiest ways to start making money, especially if you’re a fast writer. Beyond writing for blogs, many businesses are looking for writers to help with many different types of writing – from general how-to content to technical writing, to putting together brochures.

Work

Of course, you can always earn money by working. These are jobs that college students and young adults are well suited for given school schedules, summer vacations, and more.

3.Become A Tutor

Another great way to earn money while in school. If you’re a pro at any class in college, simply offer to help others that aren’t. You can post a sign outside the lecture hall, or even use a Facebook group for the class (as many classes are going digital). You can easily find clients and charge a decent rate to boost your income.

4.Get An Internship

Almost all internships are paid these days, and they can be a great way to gain real-world skills while also boosting your income. While many internships start over the summer, some companies offer extended internship programs, where you can stay on as an intern during the school year.

5.Plan Events

Do enjoy managing people, tasks, and coordinating things to get something done? If so, then party planning could be right up your alley. You can get paid to plan an event. This can be hard for a college student to do, but I’ve seen several pull it off.

Build Passive Income

Now that you know different ways to make money in college, take it to the next level by investing some of those profits into building a passive income:

6.Start Investing

Once you have a little bit of money, you need to start investing it. The goal, of course, is to turn your investments into a passive income stream that will pay you for the rest of your life. It doesn’t take much to get started.

7.Peer To Peer Lending

Similar to investing, peer-to-peer lending is where you loan money to someone else, and they pay you back with interest.

The 10 Biggest Resume Mistakes You Can Easily Avoid

Writing a good resume is a dream of every student who is
facing interview. You do not want to miss any chance for any single job. Online
job searching is not a rocket science, making a professional resume is.

Now if you want to make a good resume you must follow a good
resume format. Of course, you will find tons of useful resources that will help
you make resume online.

But there are certain details in your resume you want to
double-check before sending mail to any Hiring Manager. Freshers even company
professionals making these mistakes would fail to land their dream job.

These are the most common mistakes on resume and if you
avoid these you will save yourself a career. So read on.

1. Do I look nice?

Yes. You do.

But you do not have to tell your interviewer. And if you are
not applying for any Model or Artistic Industry, I am sure they do not even
care about your looks.

Many students who are applying for a job for the first time,
think they must stick a photograph, like it will bewitch the employers.

The truth is that the photograph has to leave, until it is
asked for. Your skills and qualifications are more important.

2. My house is 2 blocks from Community Park.

Lucky for you.

Now, employers are very unlikely to visit your house or even
the park. They are not interested to send you offer letter by post.

Emails are the vessels of our destiny. We live in digital
era and we use Emails for our official communications. It is not wise to
include exact details of your residence. Just the name of city will do the job.

After all we DO give our contact number. That does the part.

3. Too Flashy and Trashy

Your creative side may distract many. In the last post I
told how important it is to include text based information in the resume. If
you add all the flashy graphics, your resume may not go to the next round.

Keeping minimal design shows professionalism and dedication.

4. “I cannot read, it’s all elvish.”

This is what the employers feel when they find a resume with
the different fonts. Using two fonts in a single resume or using crazy font
formatting will make you less appealing to the employers.

Keep Times, Cambria or Arial. You may Bold, Italicized, or
underline to highlight some point, as you wish. But don’t use all the different
formats in same sentence.

 5. Spell check once
again, and again.

Every resume should pass through grammar check and spell
check. Any deviation from these two checks is big red flags to your employers
about your application.

Your resume forecasts your work.

 6.  Essay no more.

You will not gain any advantage writing long, elaborate, and
detailed resumes. Resumes are short, but not too short, summary of your
academic and professional profile.

7. Cooking, dancing, singing, gardening, ……and leaving.

This was five years ago. No one is going to make you cook,
dance, or sing in the Company you are applying for. There is no need to write
what interests you.

Instead write relevant experience related to the job you are
applying for.

Tip: Mention what you can ‘solve’ for them.

8. 50+ courses in 5 months

No need to include all those certificate courses you have
done since the dawn.

Some graduates who are fond of online course certification
include everything they have learnt, even though it does not match with the job
profile.

I once saw a graduate candidate adding “Online English Grammar
Course” Certificate from Udemy. This is one such redundant bullet that
needs to leave resume.

I mean. C’mon. A graduate does not need to show that he knows
basic English grammar.

Solution is to add top 5-7 course certificates which you
have Mastered and applied to solve real life problems.

9. Find me on Facebook and Instagram – NOT!

No employer, at least real ones, will ever ask for your
personal details or links to your personal social sites.

Be professional. Linkden, Github, Quora, or any website you
have worked on is always welcomed on your resume.

10. Jack of all trades

Jack wanted to master all the Fortune500 Company. So he made
a resume, applied all the correct fonts, used spell checker, and did everything
fine.

He made his resume for an Automobile sector, then took that
same resume to the Medical Center, then to Academic Institute, then Public
Service, then a Rehabilitation Center…and so on.

At the end, he could not be a master of any one of the Companies.

Lesson learnt! Do not use same resume to different companies,
positions or places you are applying for.
Make relevant changes accordingly.

Tip: Keep a resume template, and make changes according to
the field you are applying for.

Conclusion:

Use Resume Template from an authentic source. Keep up with the
latest LinkedIn posts related to the resume format. Use this 10 check list and
avoid them. And rock that interview!

I am sure there is more to this list. Comment below if you
think so.

Did Caste Reservations Is Good Or Bad … ?

Hello everybody, In order to end caste discrimination from the country, the government introduced the policy of caste reservation after independence. And this has been quite a controversial issue. People debate on this issue a lot but very few have sought answers as to whether caste reservations have actually been effective in changing and improving the lives of SCs and STs and in decreasing caste discrimination. Specifically, we will look at the impact of reservation in three different areas; public education institutes, government jobs and political representation. Outputs vs Outcomes Before talking about the impact of caste reservation, I would like to explain this basic difference to you. What is the difference between output and outcome? It is important for you to understand this so that you can understand the content of this video going forward. These two words sound similar but there is a big difference between the two.

Let’s take the example of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan. What was the target outcome of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan? What did the scheme actually intended to achieve? Make India Open Defecation free! Make it clean, increase sanitation in the country and decrease the number of diseases that occur due to lack of cleanliness. But how will Swachh Bharat Abhiyan achieve its outcome? It will be through outputs. The output of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was to construct toilets. Outputs tell us how effectively a policy has been implemented and on the other hand outcomes tell us the impact of implementing the policy. It is easy for governments to ask for votes in the name of outputs.

This is the reason governments want to focus more on outputs. with claims like- Look how many toilets we have constructed…look how many free cycles we have distributed to girls. But in reality if we really want to develop our nation then we should focus on the outcomes. Did building more toilets result in the nation becoming cleaner? Did dirtiness in the county actually lessen? Did distributing cycles to girls result in them being more educated? Similarly, when we talk about the impact of caste reservation in this video, we will first look at the output -whether caste reservation has resulted in larger representation of lower caste in colleges (which is an output) Thereafter we will look at the outcome whether lower caste people got better job opportunities? Have their lives improved? Have their incomes risen? And has caste discrimination decreased in society? Let’s talk about outputs in higher education first. Has reservation resulted in increased representation of the marginal groups in higher educational institutes or not? Article 15 and 16 of the Constitution has given powers to our government to reserve seats in educational institutes and in matters of public employment.
According to population shares, about 22% seats have been reserved for SCs and STs. So the first question is has reservation resulted in increased representation of the SCs and STs? Yes, it has increased. From 1970 to 1990s, this representation has increased for both the groups and according to the latest higher education survey; this representation has increased further as well. But can we say with utmost guarantee that reservation is the reason behind the increase in representation? It is possible that due to good economic growth in India, SCs and STs have been uplifted more and this is the reason behind the increase in their representation and not reservation. If we want, we can speak of it in probabilities but as told by a researcher, we cannot say with guarantee that reservation only is responsible for it. Despite the increase, we must focus on the fact that the representation share of STs is still lower than their seat reservation number. One of the most common criticisms of reservation is of the creamy layer. According to this theory, the SCs and STs that do get reservations do not belong to some poor family but are in fact from a rich family and because of their reservation, the people belonging to the poorer section from the general category do not get seats.
Researchers have looked into this as well. They found out that the SCs and STs that do get reservations are better off in their own group but their situation is not better than general category people. The second argument given against reservation in education is that the reserved students have lesser score requirements. This might help them get a seat but after getting into the college, they would struggle and this seat would be wasted. In a research conducted in 215 engineering colleges, it was found that there isn’t any evidence that suggests that reserved students are not able to cope up with the syllabus. Now, let’s talk about public employment. Let’s get to know whether reservation has resulted in the increase in representation of SCs, STs and other marginal groups in Indian bureaucracy or not.

According to government data, there has been an increase in representation of SCs and STs in government administration. But when we look at this data in detail and divide the government positions in different levels, we see that SCs, STs do have representation but it is mostly in lower positions. For example, their representation is near their representation quota only in group C and group D category. SCs have higher representation in group D positions because many of these people are “Safai Karamcharis” (sanitation workers) In fact, almost 40% Safai Karamcharis belong to the scheduled castes. A common criticism against reservation in government jobs as well is of the creamy layer. A researcher investigated the same but found no evidence to support this creamy layer theory. One more argument that is quoted against reservation in government jobs is that if people from the marginal groups enter governance then the effectiveness of governance will be compromised.
But researchers did not find any evidence regarding this as well. Two researchers conducted a very interesting study to investigate this. They considered the data of Indian railways from 1980 to 2002 and studied 15 lakh railway employees. They wanted to see if reservation affected the productivity of the Indian railways in a negative manner. After analyzing, they found no such evidence suggesting that the efficiency of the railways were decreasing due to reserved employees. In fact, in some cases, they found out that the efficiency increased due to the reserved employees. Reservation has resulted in increased representation of disadvantaged groups in public administration and higher education institutes but what has been its impact in their lives? Let’s get to know about that.
According to research, overall it has had a positive impact in their lives but there is a lot of room for improvement even now. For example, a research highlighted that post reservation in government jobs, the representation of SCs and STs in salaried jobs increased by 5%. Another study highlighted that reservation in government jobs has resulted in boosting the morale of OBC students and they started studying more. Due to reservation, on an average, a student started studying for 0.8 years more. If we talk about reservation in political seats then we see a mixed impact. According to one study, reservation in gram panchayat has resulted in decrease in poverty amongst the STs but a similar impact was not seen in SCs Another paper showed that reservation in politics has not only resulted in more jobs for SCs and STs but government schemes have also started targeting them more. Another study tried investigating the impact of quotas in panchayat elections.
They found out that because of these quotas the people from the disadvantaged groups get more aid from the MNREGA scheme and there is improvement in their roads, water and education as well. Another study that was conducted in Rajasthan found that when a SC sarpanch is elected then the entire community benefits in many ways. If you look at all these studies then you feel like that reservation is quite a good policy tool resulting in so many positive changes. But we should also remember that reservation cannot change everything. The same researchers also said that despite a SC Sarpanch, the relationship between different castes did not change much within the village. And we have seen many such examples that reservation wouldn’t necessarily result in changing the undercurrent of the society. Recently, we saw a report where a SC panchayat President had to sit on the floor because of her caste in Tamil Nadu.
“The woman panchayat leader there has not been allowed to sit on a chair. She was sitting on the floor and she also alleged that she was also not allowed to hoist the flag.” Many researchers have even talked about the same as well that including quotas in political representations do not guarantee benefit to marginal communities. A researcher said that to win any panchayat election, a leader needs support from different social groups and this is the reason that many times they would not take such a decision that will only help their group. Despite these benefits of reservations, there is a huge gap between lower caste and upper caste people today. Data from 2011 shows that a Brahman adult on an average acquires 5.6 years of more education over the course of his lifetime as compared to a scheduled tribe adult. This map is from 1954. This shows how people reside on the basis of caste in the country.
Even after 6 decades, there isn’t a huge change in it. This table shows you a comparison of average income, assets and education level across different caste groups. You can easily see that forward caste members compared to the rest of population are quite ahead in every aspect. All these data proves that only caste reservation is not enough to solve the problem of caste discrimination in our country. And this is not just my opinion. DR. B R Ambedkar opined the same in his book Annihilation of Caste. Greater social integration simply means that people from different castes live together in every aspect of life. Not just lie in the same societies but also participate in similar activities and inter caste marriages also rise. We gave a great example of the same in the last video that how researchers conducted an experiment where they organised a cricket tournament.
They observed that the teams which had members from different caste had greater sense of friendship which does not happen when all the players in a cricket team belong to similar caste. Actually schools are one of the best social settings to enhance this integration. According to another research experiment conducted in Delhi schools found out that the classes where poor and rich kids mingle, the rich kids discriminate lesser and they interact more with poor kids. And if such interactions happen more is school and colleges then inter-caste marriages will automatically rise in the country consequently resulting in decrease in discrimination. Another research found out that if women in the country are given the independence to choose their husbands while marrying, 20% of such cases are inter-caste marriage. But in reality, in the entire country only 6% marriages are inter-caste marriages.
So an interesting connection can be seen here that how giving the right to choose to women i.e women empowerment increases inter caste marriage and also results in reduction in caste discrimination. This is the reason that some governments have tried promoting the same. Recently, Odisha government has announced a scheme to incentivise social harmony They launched a Sumangal portal to increase inter-caste marriages in the state. But this is not just the job of the government alone. Here, the Police and judiciary too need to take swift action in cases of discrimination. Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1955 tries to protect SCs and STs from discrimination. But the evidence that has come to the front suggests the provisions of act have been barely utilised. The conviction rate is quite low and the backlogs are quite high in such cases. There was a study conducted of 100 such cases in Andhra Pradesh in 2002-03. The study found out that the Police usually does not register such cases or pressurise lower caste individuals to compromise and the accused doesn’t get arrested here.
Another good example of improving the system is to not only provide reservation for seats but also offer free coaching to marginalized groups. One such scheme was launched by the Ministry of Social Justice in 2016 where SCs and OBCs were offered free coaching for UPSC, NEET and JEE exam. It was reported that more than 10 percent of students who availed the benefits of this scheme cracked these exams. So these are some solutions/suggestions to improve the reservation system in order to further reduce the caste discrimination in our country and equality flourishes. Some people would argue that reservation is actually against equality because the hard work put in by us in order to secure a seat, our options shrink and an undeserved candidate takes our seat away. In my opinion, it is quite a narrow perspective to look at the entire situation here. Imagine, you are competing with one lakh people and you write an exam to get selected on one of the 100 seats.
Amongst these 100 seats, say 50 seats are reserved. But think about that if you are competing with one lakh people just for 100 sets then how difficult it is in the first place itself. And if the seats are reduced from 100 to 50 then does that make any difference to the difficulty level? But imagine if there were 1000 seats instead of 100 for which one lakh people were competing.
If 50% were reserved then you would write the exam for 500 seats but otherwise you were writing for 50 seats. It is not right to blame reservation for this problem. If the exam is so competitive and seats are so less then this problem is of our education system.
Ask the government to build more universities, schools and colleges so that seats can be increased. Or the education system should be overhauled such that people go to other fields and more jobs are available.

How to Handle Criticism, Hate & Disrespect

Hello everybody , people did you ever notice that we all are told since childhood that the habit of embracing criticism is the stepping stone to success. But, nobody ever tells us how exactly do you embrace criticism ? If you look at the greatest leaders of all time, the greatest change makers of all time. The one thing you will find common in all of them is their ability to take and act upon the criticism that they receive. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, one of the greatest kings who ever lived in this country was primarily known to take criticism from everyone.

For him it really did not matter whether it is coming from an ordinary villager or the prime minister of the state himself. A modern day example of the same is Elon Musk, you know what, Elon Musk was once asked at a conference as to what exactly is the most difficult thing in his life. Now, considering the fact that he is already doing crazy things like colonising the Mars and making reusable rockets. You would think that his most difficult thing would be related to either one of these crazy things that he is doing. But you know what he said, and I quote, And here’s where the question arises, as to why is this habit so so important and more importantly, how can ordinary people like you and me learn to take criticism the right way. To give you a deeper understanding of the same, I want to take you back to 1846, Europe. For those of you do not know, this was one of the darkest times in the European history wherein there was a major disease that was on the rise.

This disease was called the black death of child bed wherein as soon as the mothers gave birth to their children they used to die out of something called the Puerperal fever. And just like the Covid-19 death toll today there used to be a consistent increase in the deaths of mothers. And even after years of research and millions of dollars into spending no one could actually find out what exactly caused this problem. But amidst all of this chaos, there was this one guy by the name Dr Ignaz Semmelweis. He very openly started criticising the doctors and was screaming out the solution in every way possible. And he did everything in his capacity to get his word out and prove the solution to the world. But you know what, nobody listened to him and the entire society, especially the doctors they called him crazy for decades. And this poor man died in a mental asylum. But you know what, after years of ‘Research & Development’.

As it turns out, Dr Ignaz had made an observation that the doctors were doing the deliveries in the afternoon after conducting the autopsies in the morning which is why the disease got passed on from the dead bodies into the mother’s body which is why even healthy mothers were dying out of the puerperal fever. So all they had to do was wash their hands and instruments with Chlorine and one of the deadliest disease in the history could have been eradicaed very very easily. Today, Dr Ignaz is considered to be a legend and he is regarded as the ‘saviour of mothers’. But all throughout those years while the doctors were too proud to admit their flaws, god knows how many mothers went inside the ward hoping that they would be able to see their babies only to come of in body bags.

God knows how many children in that generation grew up without a mother just because of the futile ego of the doctors who consider themselves next to god. This is the reason why feedback and criticism is very very important. This story also tells us that criticism is a double edged sword. If taken the right way, it will lead you to greatness and at the same time if not taken the right way, it will become the graveyard of your success. So now the question is, in this big bad world while we have got only a few genuine well wishers and on the other side we have got these dedicated haters who will go out of the way just to pull you down and then we have got these people who often sugarcoat their answers just to keep their image regardless of how pathetic your condition is.

How do you exactly filter through this chaos and take the feedback that really matters ? The answer to this question comes from this book called the culture code wherein Daniel Coyle talks about the method which is used by one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time who goes by the name Gregg Popovich. And this method is very famously known as the magical feedback. And you can use this magical feedback technique by asking three questions to your critic Eventually, you will realize that you are getting constructive feedback. These 3 questions are: That’s it. Once you begin to ask these questions, automatically you will begin to receive constructive feedback from your critics because these questions help the viewer navigate through both the good and the bad and urges him/her to think about the new possibilites of improvement which is what brings constructive feedback.

Once you get all these answers, it’s time to jot them down And work upon treating what works best for you and work upon what is not Then comes the most important question of all How do you exactly process this feedback and how do you decide whom to listen to and who not to. Well always remember, people, that there are 4 broad categories of people who will criticise you. The first category of the people are the haters. These are the people who will criticise you just to pull you down and if you start taking them seriously it will mess up with your focus and stifle your growth. So, block them both from your life and social media and it will work wonders for you. The second category of people are innocent critics. These are people who love you a lot but might sometimes give you baseless advice.

For example, your parents love you a lot that is why they might push you to take a so called safe career. But you need to remember one thing; that their intent is never bad but their advice very well could be. So, never ever take their advice without giving it a clear thought If it makes sense to you, work upon it, if not, learn to ignore it. But the one thing that you need to remember is that you should never ever disrespect them because today they might be giving you baseless advice but tomorrow they could be giving you a sensible advice because ultimately their intent is not evil. But then, if you begin to disrespect them they might eventually stop giving you feedback which is very very bad.

With that we move on to the third category and these are sweet talkers. These are people who will praise you so much that you will knowingly or unknowingly incline towards them just to get validation. And this is where you need to remind yourself that “Ego is the anaesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity” I repeat So definitely listen to the sweet talkers but don’t ever take them seriously. And last and most importantly we have got constructive critics These are people who love you a lot and will give you feedback that might sound very harsh at the beginning but is very very important. This could be a professor who really cares for you this could be your best friend or even your partner.

And you know what, never ever leave these people and always jot down what they say. And sometimes they might give you baseless advice because nobody is perfect but do make sure to jot down their criticism and work obssessively on it. And once you start doing this, you will begin to witness exponential growth in whatever aspect you’re taking criticism for. This could be your personal life, professional life and this could even be your own business.

And if you do this I am 100% sure that nobody in this goddamn world can stop you from achieving greatness regardless of what you’re doing right now. And every time it gets difficult to gulp down a harsh feedback just tell yourself one thing Criticism is that stone that people will throw at you all the time but it is you who needs to decide to whether to build the castle of your greatness or the graveyard of your success. Now, let that sink in, and think about it for a while.

Genius Marketing That To $19.6 Billion – American Express Case Study

Hi everybody, If you want to be a legendary entrepreneur, this episode is for you. because the story that I’m about to tell you today is the story of a brand that has leveraged, perhaps, the most undervalued attributes of mankind and made a billion dollars out of it. And if you learn how to use these attributes you can easily go on to outperform your competition regardless of which domain you belong to. These attributes that I’m talking about are kindness and empathy. Now, in this capitalistic world while most people might consider empathy and kindness to be intangible qualities . I gotta tell you that it’s an open secret recipe that can enable you to design game changing marketing strategies in the 21st Century. To tell you about it, let me take you back to 2010 America.

This is when the American economy was still experiencing the wrath of the 2008 recession which caused the stock market to hit rock bottom, the giant corporations to shut down, and caused millions of job losses within a fortnight. When this happened, while the entire economy was collapsing there was one company that did not just survive but also went on to make a profit of $13.4 billion during the very same times of recession. This company that I’m talking about is the giant American retailer- Walmart. And as it turns out during the two years of recession Walmart improved its profitability by $700 million year on year. Additionally, Walmart never had a return of equity of less than 20% during the same time of recession. Now, on the outside this might sound amazing but if you take a closer look at the impact of Walmart on retail America it’s quite devastating.

In fact, it has even got a term called the Walmart effect. Among the multiple studies that were conducted, it was proved time and again that every time a Walmart store opens up in a city or a town hundreds of small businesses along the radius of the store shut down within 1 year or at max 2 years. This was because Walmart bought all of its product at such high quantities that it was able to lower the price of products to such a low level that small business couldn’t even come close to competing with Walmart’s prices. Now, just to give you an example of the same, let’s say if you have a small retail shop. You would buy notebooks from the wholesaler for ₹30/notebook, alright? And when you buy it at ₹30 , you will sell it at ₹40 in the market but at the same time Walmart would sell the same notebook at ₹28 per piece. Which means what? Walmart’s selling price is lower than your cost price. And this made it impossible for small businesses to survive in the market.

In fact, more often than not there are even protests that are held every time Walmart announces that it’s going to open up a store in a town. But you know what? There was a small twist in the tale here. As it turns out another giant company stepped up and became a saviour for small businesses during the times of recession. And this company lodged a campaign that was such an amazing hit that the senate of the United States itself unanimously passed a resolution to support the initiative. And cherry on the cake, President Barack Obama himself publically supported the campaign. The question is- What is this company and how did the American president himself end up endorsing a marketing campaign. Well, the company that I’m talking about is American Express and the campaign that it launched is known the ‘Small business Saturday’ This was an initiative where American Express gave away $25 dollars of special credit to 100,000 credit card members wherein they could only redeem these $25 if they shopped at a small business on a Saturday, after thanksgiving. And they also gave away $100 of Facebook advertising credits to 10,000 small businesses just so that these small businesses could utilise digital marketing in order to maximise their profits.

On top of the incentives, they also ran T.V. ads, radio ads and even social media campaigns to educate the American population about their impact on the small businesses. And you know what? Soon enough, hundreds of small business owners all across the country participated in the campaign and what followed next was nothing short of a capitalistic miracle that many considered to be impossible. Millions of Americans started walking into a small business store and rather than shopping from a Walmart they began shopping from a small business inspite of knowing that they were making a more expensive purchase as compared to Walmart. In it’s second year, ‘Small Business Saturday’ became even more successful wherein 5,000 small businesses participated in the campaign and 103 million Americans shopped small. And soon enough the Small Business Saturday became such a social phenomenon that it generated over 2.7 million Facebook likes and became a top trend in topic on Twitter. And #SmallBusinessSaturday became so popular that even President Barack Obama tweeted his support towards the campaign.

This is how the capitalistic America went beyond their conventions and came together as a community to spread kindness and showed empathy towards small businesses in their community. By 2012, American Express took the campaign to the next level wherein they did not just give out credit card incentives but they also provided the small business owners with social media kits, email templates and various marketing materials to help them maximise their marketing. This further maximised their sales and within just 2 years Small Business Saturday became a part of the annual American tradition wherein everybody starting from small business owners to the President himself participate in the campaign. And soon enough, it turned into a beautiful occasion with lots of happines, lots of smiles and most importantly it became an occasion of communal unity for the United States of America.

In 2015, President Obama even documented taking his daughters to the local bookstore to promote the initiative of shopping at a small business. Fast forward to 2020, American Express estimates that 110 million people participated in the Small Business Saturday and sales hit a record high with an estimated $19.6 billion in spending and all of this money helped keep small businesses alive even during COVID-19 recession. This is how a bank like American Express was able to use empathy and kindness to make an economic miracle come true even during the toughest times of American history.

Now, there are 3 very important lessons that we need to learn from this case study while we execute these ideas to our domain. Lesson 1, identifying the pain and the interest of the audience is always the key to unlocking extraordinary business ideas. In this case, American Express identified the pain of the shoppers and used its service to give them a $25 credit just so that it could motivate the shoppers to shop from a small business. Therefore, the interest of the shoppers has been addressed, at the same time it has also catered to the pain of small business owners.

Lesson 2, in the 21st Century participatory campaigns will always turn out to be more powerful than even an award winning advertisement. Why? because the new age of marketing is moving from impressions to expressions. So, more than a T.V. ad it is the participation of the customers that is going to create more impact. In this case, because American Express gave out email templates and social media kits the shopkeepers automatically became the local ambassadors who participated in the campaign which eventually led to a chain reaction and got millions of shoppers on board too. This is what we call as participatory marketing campaign.

And last and most importantly, always remember that empathy and compassion are the most undervalued attributes of this capitalistic world and very few people know that these are two of those qualities that are so powerful that they can turn a commoner into a king. In this case, they were powerful enough to give rise to a capitalistic miracle that America will cherish forever.

How did India's MTR Foods Overcome The Economic Downturns

Hello everybody , On 25th of June 1975 the Indira Gandhi government officially declared a nationwide emergency. The fundamental rights were curbed, the press was censored and within a fortnight the livelihood of 620 million Indians was at stake. Little did they know that the next 21 months of their lives would be known as the darkest chapter in the history of Indian democracy. And all of this was happening during a time when India was already witnessing a socioeconomic crisis. During this time, let alone business prosperity even survival was considered to be a miracle. And the story that I’m about to tell you today is the story of one such miracle wherein amidst this economic nightmare while most businesses were shutting down there was one incredible businessman who turned this very same emergency into an business opportunity and built a business empire that now has a revenue of 1000 crores. This businessman is Mr Sadananda Maiya and the company that I’m talking about is Mavalli Tiffin Room which is popularly known as MTR.

The question is- What was so special about MTR and how was it able to turn an economic nightmare into a business opportunity ? The answer to this question lies in the rich history of MTR that dates back to 1924. This is when the Maiya family started the MTR restaurant with the vision to serve the most authentic, hygienic and the tastiest South Indian food to its customers. And the entire family was so dedicated to their profession that even during the post-independence time when the country was witnessing a political turmoil they still served the most authentic, hygienic and the tastiest South Indian food in town. Within a few years the restaurant became so popular that it became a hotspot for tourists television personalities and even film stars. But after 5 long decades of prosperity; in 1975 when the emergency was imposed the family hit a dead end due to the socio-economic crisis.

During this time, apart from the emergency India had already seen 2 bad agricultural years and due to the formation of OPEC the oil prices had quadrupled and the inflation in the country had skyrocketed to 15%. The situation was so bad that the government had to stop all new construction work they froze the wages and salaries in the public sectors And imposed compulsory savings on income tax payers. And this meant that every single rupee was a lifesaver for a middle class person and it obviously meant that rarely anybody ever went to a restaurant. On top of that, the government required every restaurant to conform to prices set by the government and it was practically impossible to run a profitable restaurant business with those given prices. For example, under the President’s rule, the price of Idli was clipped to 10p from 25p while a cup of coffee which costed one rupee was to be sold for just 25p.

Now, people, when something like this happens most of the restaurant owners do either one or many of these 3 things to survive. And this is something that you would’ve seen even during the COVID-19 crisis. Number one, they do extreme cost cutting and fire all of their employees. Number two, they indulge in adulteration and serve extremely low quality food to their customers which eventually leads to health hazards. Or number three they just shut their shop altogether and wait for the situation to get back to normal. And this is exactly what the restaurant owners did in 1975 because they saw no other option to survive. But you know what ? Even during this time MTR foods still served the most authentic, hygienic and the tastiest South Indian food to its customers without compromising on their quality.

And not just that They retained most of their employees and built a supply chain that was so robust that when the emergency was lifted MTR went on to become one of the most successful food companies in the country. The question is- What exactly was this strategy and what was so special about it ? As it turns out, when the government imposed the prices the MTR restaurants started bleeding. They were loosing out ₹25,000 on weekdays and lost upto 1 lakh rupees during weekends. But even during that time Sadanand Maiya sir was not willing to compromise on his family business values. At the same time he did not want to fire any of the employees because they had stayed loyal to the business for decades So you know what ? He took a bold step to shut down the restaurant altogether and made 3 strategic changes to it’s business.

Number one, he realised that inspite of the emergency, the demand for food did not go down. It’s just that the purchase power of the customers had declined drastically. And the supply chain of the restaurant was too costly to actually cater to their demands. So, to reduce the cost he moved from cooked food to packed food. Because of this the heavy cost and loss due to perishable items was completely eliminated. On top of that instead of adulterating the costly ingredients he changed the ingredients altogether. For example, they moved from rice idlis to rava idlis to make idlis cost effective. And even today, Rava Idli is one of MTR’s signature dishes.

Number two since he could not comply by the prices imposed by the government he turned the same restaurant into a grocery store and started selling food mixes via grocery sales. And last and most importantly he trained his entire staff to build an efficient supply chain to make packed food and sold it at an affordable price. In the corporate world this is what we call as reskilling. And that is how ladies and gentlemen MTR was able to survive the emergency without compromising on its business values. And guess what ? As soon as the emergency was lifted MTR restaurant reopened but this time along with the restaurant they had a ready to fire manufacturing chain which produced nothing but high quality products. Soon enough it extended to multiple food mixes like pickles, like spices and even special spice mixtures. Fast forward to today MTR has emerged as one of the finest food brands in the country with a revenue of almost 1000 crores. And MTR exports its products to 21 countries including US, UK, Australia and Japan.

And most importantly it has successfully stood the test of time for 97 years without ever compromising its values And even during the COVID crisis, 10 years after Maiya sir stepped down The company is still setting very high standards for change management in the industry. While most companies were clueless and struggled to keep their supply chain intact during the COVID crisis; MTR foods had already doubled their inventory level from 14 days to 30 days capacity. And while the first lockdown was imposed on 25th of March MTR rigorously started preparing for the crisis way back from 10th March itself. And this is when none of us had a clue that our lives were about to change forever.

And that is how time and again by turning a business threat into a business opportunity MTR has consistently set a benchmark for other brands to follow and from entrepreneurs like you and me to learn from. Now there are 3 very important lessons that we need to learn from this iconic case study. Number one and this is something that has been followed by Dhirubhai Ambani sir better than anybody else wherein his policy was everytime you see a market crisis you need to realize that your competitors are facing the exact same crisis as you are. The question is are you going to see it as an obstacle and succumb to it or treat it as a business opportunity and get way ahead of your competition.

Number two, money can build a company but it takes guts, quality and values to build a brand. And last and most importantly as much as the Internet is filled with American and European business case studies we often fail to realise the fact that India has had a long history of political and economic crisis and the adversity has been so much that let alone business, even staying alive was considered to be a big deal.

But even during these times we have had some incredible entrepreneurs who were able to build a business empire and have established a golden legacy for us to follow and we being in the Indian markets need to pay very close attention to these lesser known goldmines because they have got nuggets of wisdom that can turn us into extraordinary business leaders of this country.

All you should know about the Twitter trend”#ArrestLucknowGirl”

As per the reports, the incident took place at the Awadh crossing in the Uttar Pradesh capital on an unspecified date. This video https://youtu.be/PLvFFywU48A purportedly showing assaulting the cab driver was first posted on twitter by an account named Megh Updates. The caption of the twitter post read” Viral Video: A girl continuously beating a man at Awadh crossing, Lucknow, UP and allegedly damaging his phone in spite of him asking for reason”

The viral video showed the women slapping the cab driver multiple times in front of the traffic police personnel. She kept assaulting the cab driver even as the traffic personnel tried to intervene. The youth counterattacked by slapping her.

The sparking outrage and the continuous demand for her arrest by the social media users finally made Lucknow Police to file a FIR against the women. In our nation the pseudo feminism is continuously acting as a toxicant to the society. Women have been provided with so much rights that some of them have started being misused. There are many incidents in our country where women have been caught thrashing men by misusing those rights which are provided for their safety.

Our constitution provides the right to equality which says everyone deserves respect regardless of the gender. The rules shouldn’t be violated by either men or women. Feminism means women should have same rights as men but this should not be mistaken as women should thrash men in order to show her power.
