Why real saffron is so expensive?

Even in the expensive world of spices, saffron stands out. Kashmir is famous for producing some of the highest quality of saffron in the world. Red soil is mostly found in Kashmir which is suitable for growing saffron because it is naturally fertilized. It only grows under very specific conditions, blooming for 1or 2 week in a year. Saffron is not a fast crop, it reproduces slowly. It is picked in the early morning, when the sun isn’t hard. Spain is the world’s largest producer of saffron. Saffron is used as a cooking spice and a clothing dye.

Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world because it is an extremely labor-intensive crop. Crocus sativa, or the saffron crocus, flower which has three tiny, threadlike stigmas in the center. Workers have to be quick to pick all the flowers, carefully not to hurt the flowers themselves. Stigma must be removed by hands carefully. No machine can do this delicate work. This is the biggest reason saffron has such a high price, It can take 40 hours of manual labor to produce just 1 kg of high-quality saffron. This is why saffron is so expensive.

The aroma and flavor of saffron is unique. It is floral, but not sweet. The taste of saffron depends on the rainfall, temperature, and soil. It’s taste is difficult to describe. It tastes slightly bitter, not sweet. It takes some 75,000 saffron flowers to make just one pound of spice. Most saffron these days comes from Iran (about 90%) and manual labor there is cheap.

Saffron needs to be kept in the dark, at a cool temperature in an air tight container upto 6 months. If it comes in contact of air, it will loses it’s color and flavor .

Identify Real saffron. Saffron is red in color, and if you want to identify if its real or not, you have to soak it in water for about ten minutes. If water turns yellow in color it is real. If you rub real saffron between your fingers, your skin will turn yellow/orange. If it’s not too expensive, there’s a good chance it is not real saffron. Be careful while buying saffron.

Benefits of saffron. Many people drink Saffron by mixing it with milk. It is rich in medicinal properties. It helps to combat depression and lowers blood pressure. Saffron has been used in traditional medicine to treat menstrual problems, and asthma.

Why delta is variant of concern?

A major concern right now is Delta, a highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus strain, which was first identified in India in December. This strain spread rapidly, soon becoming the dominant strain of the virus in both India and then Great Britain.

The delta variant, which has further mutated into the delta plus, has 60% higher transmissibility rate than the original alpha variant. Delta has now spread to 92 countries. This is one of the mutations that contributed to the loss of response to some antibodies, including those produced by the vaccines. Delta is less sensitive than alpha to antibodies.

With the rapid spread of the delta variant in the United States, coronavirus cases are spiking in parts of the country, especially in areas with low COVID-19 vaccination rates. Almost all COVID-19 deaths in the United States are now among the unvaccinated people’s.

The two doses of vaccine provide much better protection than one dose against the delta variant. Children under 18 years old are not yet eligible for vaccination, which leaves them at risk. Anyone who is unvaccinated and not practicing preventive strategies is at risk for infection by the new variant, the doctors say.

The real risk is when you consider the broader population, where many people are either unvaccinated or only have one dose of the vaccine, combined with delta’s higher transmissibility and disease severity. The delta has high levels of transmission combined with a partially vaccinated population which increases the risk of more people catching the virus and increase the risk of further mutations.

The highly contagious delta variant is the fastest and fittest coronavirus strain yet, and it will “pick off” the most vulnerable people, especially in places with low Covid-19 vaccination rates, WHO said. Many mutations do nothing or actually hinder the virus.

Delta, first identified in India, has the potential “to be more lethal because it’s more efficient in the way it transmits between humans and it will eventually find those vulnerable individuals who will become severely ill, have to be hospitalized and potentially die,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s said during a news conference.

The most important thing you can do to protect yourself from Delta is to get fully vaccinated.

Basic rules of netiquette

Successful relationships, whether in our personal or professional lives, depend on effective communication.

In today’s world most of the meetings occur online, communication isn’t just a nice skill to have – it’s essential. Good communication can be the difference the way you answer an email or what you say on social media directly affects people’s perceptions of you.

Now that such a considerable amount of our daily lives is facilitated by the internet, digital communication skills are essential to ensure messages are delivered and received correctly. We are lucky to have incredible 4G connectivity to help us communicate digitally.

Teleconferencing programs, group chat apps, and other digital tools are part of everyday life now as we attempt to strike a balance between isolation and connection.

As we all know, there aren’t many chances to improve the first impression. Some of you may have heard the term “netiquette” being used in online circles. Netiquette defined simply refers to the code of courtesy and respect followed when communicating with others on the Internet.

Start speaking at a normal volume when talking over the phone or video chat. Be as polite as you would be in offline encounters.

Do not send emails and text messages in ALL CAPS. Writing in all caps can oftentimes be interpreted as YELLING! and will be viewed as impolite. Make sure your emails are easy to read.

Avoid sending spam to others, keep your messages meaningful. Don’t send forwarded content created by others.

Be yourself. Don’t say anything to anyone you wouldn’t say in person. Don’t be funny, sarcastic, passive or aggressive. A joke can oftentimes be perceived as a rude remark. A light-hearted joke can be viewed differently in text. While in-person, we communicate with the help of facial expressions and gestures. Conveying the same message online can prove more challenging.

Tone is important when you can’t speak in person. Chances of miscommunication are high when you’re relying on communication through the phone or computer. Sometimes things just go wrong.

Stay on topic. When there is a discussion happening, it’s crucial that everyone stays on topic. Make sure that you understand what the discussion is about and only reply with things relevant to it.

Use respectful language. It’s not just what you say, but how you say it.

Don’t let your point get lost in translation by typing too many unnecessary words.

Online communication can easily be improved through proofreading. Check for: Grammar and punctuation errors, Poor sentence structure, Incorrect use of tenses. Use real words and complete sentences, and skip the emojis.

Verify facts before sharing information. You should be careful when providing information. It’s important to fact-check everything you read and possibly include sources when giving advice or information.

Being open to guidance and feedback, which means researching different options and tools of communication

Incompatible food combination

Some delicious combinations are doing your body more harm than good when eaten together. We all know the dangers and health risks of eating junk food yet we still stuff our faces with the ‘wrong things.’ We are all guilty of eating the wrong kind of food because we are too lazy to eat the right stuff. Either a busy day at the office or we are just feeling down and find a reason, an excuse rather to get our hands on that burger we had been craving all week. We all know that our health greatly depends on the food we choose to eat. That is why it has to be not only tasty but also good for our bodies. However, sometimes the wrong combinations of ingredients can undermine all the healthiness you were trying to achieve!

Some food combination can be harmful if you are having a delicate digestive system. Here are a few combinations that should not be eaten together as they may cause more harm than good.

1.Yogurt with fruit. You should avoid it as the bacteria of yogurt will act on the sugar present in fruits and leads to toxins, cold, allergies. Any sour fruit like berries and yoghurt do not make a good combination. A better idea with yogurt is to add some healthy fat in nuts or a dash of cinnamon. A little bit of honey or a few raisins go well too.

2.Water and food. Water along with meals is one of the worst combinations. This is because water tends to dilute stomach acids, which are essential for digesting the food that you eat. This can get difficult for your tummy and make it work more to digest the food.

3.Milk and Banana. Shocking right? According to Ayurveda, eating bananas and milk together can diminish Agni (fire), which is responsible for the digestion and metabolism of food. The digestion of this combo is very hard as it is known to produce toxins in the body.

4.Honey and Ghee. Mixing honey with ghee is a big NO. Honey has the property of heat and ghee has the property of cold, and one should never combine opposite properties in equal amounts.

5. Burger and fries. This may make you wonder because most burger joints give fries along with the burger. But it is not so because this combo is as wrong as it could get. Both fries and burger patty are deep fried food items, which can make your blood sugar levels very low. Low blood sugar levels will make you tired and lethargic.

6.Wine and dessert. Although we know wine and cheese to be a food match made in heaven, wine with dessert does not mix so well.

7.Mint with aerated drinks. Mint with coke can cause excessive bloating and gas, which can make you very uncomfortable.

8.Pizza and coke. Who doesn’t love pizza with a coke? As much as it sounds tempting, this combination is not good for your health. You should avoid drinking a cold drink with a cheesy food as the combination can lead to difficulty in absorption. Pizza is loaded with starch and proteins, which slows down digestion and high amounts of sugar from cola further makes you digestion sluggish.

9.Juice and cereal. If you are thinking that a glass of juice along with your breakfast cereal is going to give you much-needed energy for the day, well, that may not be true. The acids in fruit juices like orange juice hinder the breaking down of carbohydrates by affecting the enzyme activity.

10.Eggs and fried meat. One of the bad food combinations for digestion is eggs and fried meat. Fried meat like bacon along with eggs is a combo that is loaded with protein and your digestive system may take a long time to digest it.

11.Fruits with a meal. The best time to eat fruits is in the mornings, on an empty stomach, with a glass of water, as it helps in detoxifying your system.

12.Milk and melon. Milk and melon must never be paired. Since melons are rapidly digested, they trigger the secretion of stomach acids, which curdle the milk. This causes indigestion and causes many other diseases.

Why are cashews so expensive?

Cashews are delicious. When we’re in the mood for a nutty snack, cashews are hard to resist. The only problem is, they can really hurt your wallet over time, especially when compared with other nuts.Cashews are not a cheap indulgence.  No wonder gorging on roasted, salted or plain cashews is pure bliss, but what makes this rich, crunchy, silky nut so expensive?

The reason behind the expensive cashew nuts is their growing climates. Cashew can only be harvested in tropical climates such as India, Vietnam, Brazil, and some African countries. It grows in a single nut attached to the bottom of a fruit called cashew apple which takes two to three months to develop.

Cashews are in high demand and supply is limited. That is the primary reason for their high price.

The seed is removed from the apple. The cashew seeds have to be steamed and then dried for 24 hours to make it easier to remove the outer shell. Cashew seeds are cracked individually by hand. Cashews need proper processing in order to make them edible, but most of the extraction and processing is done manually, which makes this task tough!

The cashews have a toxic substance under the shell similar to poison ivy, therefore workers oil their hands to protect them. The shell’s oils cause damage to the skin of the workers responsible for processing the seeds. Roasting the cashew nuts to destroy the toxins is dangerous as well, as the toxins are released into the air. After the toxins are removed, the cashews must be graded and sorted. The entire process is labor-intensive as well as hazardous, which helps explain part of why cashews are so expensive. Cashews are then dried to reduce the moisture content making it easier for peeling. Lastly the kernel is carefully peeled one by one to reveal the final product!

I was amazed at the long labour intensive techniques involved in bringing cashew nuts to our table.  This made me realise the reason behind the high price tag of the cashew nuts I love.

What if I get corona virus?

If you get it, nobody else should get it from you. This line is the only solution I think. This commitment you should take for yourself, for sake of humanity. In case you get it, it should not hop to one other person. This responsibility we must take.Focus on good food, sleeping habits and working out and if something is out of your control try and shift your attention, there is nothing you can do. Strengthening the immune system is the best action you can take.

The older you are, the more likely you are to get very sick if you get COVID-19. People of any age with certain medical conditions are also at a higher risk for more severe illness. If you have any of these underlying conditions or other serious medical conditions, including a weakened immune system, call your doctor right away if you develop symptoms of COVID-19. Keep track of your symptoms.

If you have all the symptoms of virus but haven’t been tested, you should assume you have it and still take precaution.

  • Stay home except to get medical care. Avoid all public areas.
  • Separate yourself at home in a specific room away from other people
  • Avoid sharing household items
  • Wear a mask when you have to be in the same room with other people. You don’t need to wear the mask if you are alone. If you can’t put on a mask (because of trouble breathing, for example), cover your coughs and sneezes in some other way. Try to stay at least 6 feet away from other people. This will help protect the people around you.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Clean and disinfect all frequently touched surfaces daily.
  • If you have symptoms, you should get tested for COVID-19, even if you are fully vaccinated.

Tell anyone you had close contact with that you are sick so that these people know to quarantine and stay alert for symptoms. By letting your close contacts know they may have been exposed to COVID-19, you are helping to protect everyone.

Being ill with COVID-19 might be especially hard because it is a new disease and there is a lot of news coverage. Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media.

Is Telemedicine The Future Of Health Care ?

The novel corona virus pandemic has stretched health care system to the brink. Covid 19 might getting all the headlines but patient are getting sick from other health disease and that’s left doctors looking for other way to treat them while minimizing contact.

Telemedicine allows health care professionals to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients at a distance using telecommunications technology. Telemedicine is the use of electronic communications and software to monitor and treat patient in lieu of any in patient visit.

According to IBIS world, the industry revenue has grown 34.7% from 2014 to 2021. Despite the increase in revenue. Americans have been slow to adopt the practice according to 2017 report. Like all of American life, that changed with novel corona virus. The number of medicare patient using telehealth has increased.

Shares of zoom video communication are up more than 150% since the start of 2020.

Telehealth visits are booming as doctors and patient embrace distancing amid coronavirus crisis. Telemedicine is the primary means of care during the corona virus pandemic.

Benefits.

1. It allows a patient to schedule visits at their convenience.

2. The benefits of telemedicine are easy to see. Physicians can now reach patients who are halfway across the city or state. All you need is a strong internet signal and a smartphone, tablet or computer to connect with a medical professional.

3. You can wrap up a visit in 15 or 20 minutes, which is convenient for many patients. Often, you’ll spend the same amount of time driving to and from an in-person visit.

4. There is also a decrease in wait times.

Challenges.

1. The main limitation is the lack of a physical exam. Inability to do a surgical procedure.

2. A lot of time goes into adjusting to the technology and understanding how it works and most importantly managing the wifi network at times.

3. The biggest challenge is to convince the patient that the quality of care via this consult is no less than being done in person.

Telemedicine will be the permanent new normal. It has been obvious for years. It will continue to move healthcare delivery from the hospital or clinic into the home. A fair amount of consultations, approximately 80%, can be done through telemedicine. Today, there are plenty of instruments that allow a person to do an ultrasound and allow people to check their kidney, abdominal cavity or even the heart echo without physically being at the hospital.
