Father-daughter relationships have always been the most beautiful thing in this world, and embracing this bond is equally important. So, reschedule your plans for the weekend girls, and watch these movies beautifully portraying father- daughter bond.

1. Piku

Review: Piku may be the finest Hindi film of 2015 - Rediff.com movies
The comedy-drama film based on daughter fulfilling his father’s peculiar demands. The film was directed by Shoojit Sircar and written by Juhi Chaturvedi. The leading cast of the film includes Deepika Padukone (the daughter), Amitabh Bachchan (the father), and Irrfan Khan. It is a very sweet, simple yet an emotional movie. Don’t get fooled when I said it’s a comedy-drama. It has chunks of scenes that will make you tear up. So, I’ll advise you to get all the tissues beforehand.

2. Dangal

Dangal aims to go tax-free
This incredible story is on the life of the man who dreamt of winning gold medal in wrestling for the country. He wants to have a son to fulfill his dreams but has four daughters instead with his wife. He is disappointed but soon maks up his mind to train his girls to become wrestling champions and bring home a gold medal for the country. He is especially sure his older daughter Geeta Phogat will do it.

Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan’s Angrezi Medium focuses on a father who’s willing to go to any length to secure a seat for his daughter in a prestigious university in London. 4. Raazi

Raazi: A self-important, self-applauding thriller - Rediff.com movies
Raazi is such an ode to the father- daughter relationship. On the wish of her father, Hidayat Khan, the 20-year-old daughter agrees to dedicate her life to the nation and becomes an agent by marrying a Pakistani military officer. The cutting emotions in the song are beautifully highlighted and, needless to say, Alia looks beautiful as a Kashmiri Bride. Raazi is a period thriller film directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta under the banner of Dharma Productions. The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, about an Indian spy married to a Pakistani military officer during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

5. Khamoshi- The musical

This movie marked Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut as a director. It is a very heart-wrenching movie. It beautifully portrays the relation of a mute father and his normal kid. The scene where Nana Patekar (the mute father) tries to revive his daughter- Annie (played by Manisha Koirala) from coma by delivering a mute speech will definitely let the rivers flow down your eyes.

What is Déjà vu?

DEJA VU: WHERE DOES IT REALLY COME FROM – the word

Déjà vu is the sensation of having been in the same scenario previously. This is a French expression that literally means “already seen.” Although some people interpret déjà vu in a paranormal context, conventional scientific methodologies dismiss déjà vu as “precognition” or “prophecy.”

Experts estimate that two-thirds of us have experienced déjà vu at least once in our lifetimes. While there appears to be no gender difference in the occurrence, age appears to be a factor. Déjà vu occurrences decrease drastically as people become older; in fact, most reports come from persons between the ages of 15 and 25, prompting some to speculate that déjà vu is linked to brain development. We now know that the brain isn’t fully formed until the age of 25, maybe even later. People with a greater level of education and socioeconomic status, as well as those who see more movies and travel frequently, are more likely to have déjà vu. These statistics make sense if déjà vu is all about recognition based on familiarity: Travel is more prevalent among those with greater incomes, and it allows them to see new physical sites that may create a sense of familiarity. However, just because something can’t be remembered doesn’t imply the memory isn’t still ‘in there’; it usually is, and it’s just not being accessed. These kinds of recollections could be the source of déjà vu’s sensation of familiarity. Deja vu is also more likely to occur when a person is stressed or tired, according to research. According to a 2010 study, people who remember their dreams regularly have greater déjà vu occurrences. Dreams have a reputation for being unreliable guides to reality. When you combine that with our brains’ already flawed memory system, it’s easy to understand how the two could interact to generate a sense of familiarity; perhaps you dreamed it, or something similar. Dream déjà vu is actually referred to as déjà reve, French for “dreamed before.” Approximately 86 percent of college students polled in a study report recalling events from their dreams. Cleary says this happens when you have a dream about something you’ve done, but just recall the dream, not the action itself.

Because déjà vu is so unpredictable, researching it has proved tough. That’s why some scientists are focusing their attention on epilepsy patients’ brains, particularly those who have recurrent déjà vu during the “auras” that occur right before a seizure.” Patients with epilepsy who have déjà vu are more prone to have seizures in the medial temporal area of the brain. This part of the brain also handled memory. In these investigations, patients report two sorts of seizure experiences: one is a feeling of déjà vu familiarity, and the other is a more vivid and comprehensive remembrance of a past occurrence. This is referred to as déjà vécu, or “having already lived.” Some argue that the two are related, with déjà vu being a low-level kind of failed recollection.

Book Review – Norwegian Wood

Amazon.in: Buy Norwegian Wood Book Online at Low Prices in India | Norwegian Wood Reviews & Ratings

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami is a coming-of-age story of Toru Watanabe, set in the late 1960s in Tokyo during the main character’s early student life. Toru narrates the story himself. Having lost his close friend, Kizuki, to suicide, Toru moves out of his hometown in Kobe and to Tokyo to study theater, which he clearly isn’t really interested in. Their lives in those days have a background context of a weak student revolution which fizzles out too soon, only to reveal the hypocrisy of the people leading it.

Here in Tokyo, Toru once accidentally bumps into Naoko, his deceased friend’s girlfriend. Naoko, if not more, is clearly as affected by Kizuki’s death as Toru (only to know later that Kizuki isn’t the only close one Naoko has lost to suicide). Naoko is broken and in dire need of someone’s emotional support in order to heal. And here comes ToruToru & Naoko share a bond, albeit a sad one, a bond strengthened by the death of the third partner of their group. They spend multiple Sundays together, wandering through the streets of Tokyo and, as one may expect, Toru falls for her. Unfortunately, that is where things take the melancholic path further down hill.

Naoko ends up in an institution called Ami Hostel up the hills, an hour from the city of Kyoto. Ami Hostel is a sophisticated version of (to put it subtly) a mental hospital. It’s secluded, clean, peaceful, and more of a community living where the lines between doctors & patients are blurred. While back in Tokyo, Toru finds Midori Kobayashi, his ‘History of Drama’ classmate. Midori, despite her own multiple problems — family, boyfriend, her family bookstore — to name a few, helps Toru to live through his lonely days, while he still yearns for Naoko to reach out to him. Toru is equally attracted to both Naoko and Midori. The story progresses as he sways back and forth and spends time with Naoko and Midori alternatively. While in his mind he is always rooting for Naoko to come back to his life, he doesn’t allow him to register that fact that he loves & misses Midori equally well. Naoko is troubled deeply & doesn’t want to come back to Toru until she is in a much better shape while Midori hates the fact that Toru always prioritizes Naoko over her, even though Midori Toru have never discussed Naoko even once. This is a tough choice Toru has to make and a journey he’ll have to take in his mind moving from Naoko to Midori or vice versa. What choice does he make? Do read the book to find out.

The two women in Toru’s life couldn’t have been more contradictory — One doesn’t speak much, the other doesn’t stop at all. One goes all out in showing affection for Toru while the other never confesses even though Toru keeps asking for it. Both have seen death, grief and loss, up close and personal, but one gets accustomed to it, jokes about it while the other gets crushed by it.

In the end, Toru has to make a choice between Naoko and Midori. Before he decides, you would have definitely made up yours. It’s not a grey area anymore. Norwegian Wood is a love story, with some ecstatic, arousing moments and with some dark, melancholic, heart wrenching ones as well — just like life, as one may say.

Bottom line, we will lose the people we love, friends and lovers will fall out of our lives, and there will be mistakes we make in our lives or watch others make towards other people we won’t be able to rewrite, because that’s the power of time. It can only go forward, not back. The characters interacting with each other are nostalgic; they recount the times that made them to be the person they are today. The lessons from this book aren’t any easy pills to swallow, so if you’re intending for a happy-go-lucky read, then I’d probably request you to skip Norwegian Wood.

CONCLUSION

This story has three main characters and their selfless love and that willingness to destroy owns self for the person they love. There are quite few many difficulties in their life but the way their love has been portrayed it won my heart. Some secrets, some revelations and then an unexpected climax – everything is just so catchy that I could not put the book down till I completed reading it. So, half torn hearts will definitely win many hearts of the readers!! And the most beautiful part about this book is the Hindi poems in between the story which gave that storyline the perfect essence of emotions.

While reading the novel, we can tell that not every relationship is about flowing together forever. People who meant the world to us at one time will seem like a distant memory at another.
In conclusion, I could say it’s interesting and engaging. It’s a heart crushing story with surprising revelations and a touching climax.

5 true stories prove multiple universes do exist!

Would you believe me if I say parallel universes exist and are a ‘real’ thing? Well if no, I would request you to continue reading ahead. We have all come across the terms like parallel universes/ multiple universes several times in the fictional books that we read. But who knew that those stories weren’t just a myth or an old-wives’ tale. Here are 5 more real-life stories that will leave you dumbstruck.

1. A guy at Tokyo International Airport who was supposed to be from a non-existing country

Allegedly, this man told customs he was in Japan for business, and had legitimate visa stamps, currency from multiple European countries, cheques from an unknown bank, and a driver’s license issued in Taured. They sent him to a hotel while things were sorted out, while two immigration officers stood outside of his hotel door. But when they went to check on him in the morning, he’d vanished. This was from 15 stories up, above a busy street, so escaping through a window was unlikely, if not impossible. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department searched, but never located the man from Taured again.

2. The green-skinned children who simply just appeared in Woolpit

Back in the 12th century, two children, a brother and sister, allegedly popped up in the village of Woolpit, in Suffolk, England. Both had greenish-colored skin, spoke an unknown language, wore bizarre clothing, and initially refused to eat any food other than raw beans. They were taken in, cared for, and eventually they adapted, developing a taste for food and losing the green hue in their skin. Shortly after, the boy became sick and died, but after learning to speak English, the girl explained that she and her brother were from a place where the sun didn’t shine bright, and it was perpetual twilight. She and her brother were there, herding their dad’s cattle, when they heard some loud noise, and were suddenly in a new place where they were eventually discovered, in Woolpit. The girl grew up and integrated herself into her new surroundings. Though it remained unknown how she and her brother got there, the girl went on to get married and live her life here, in a dimension that might not actually be her place of origin.

3. The cabin in the Markawasi Stone Forest that leads to a parallel dimension

One day, a woman and her friends were camping at a site near the mysterious forest, when they heard music coming from a small, stone cabin that was lit up by torches. They claimed to see people wearing 17th-century fashion dancing inside, and the curious woman was drawn to it, so she headed over and tried to enter. Before she could get inside, a friend pulled her away, and half of her body immediately became paralyzed — the half that had entered the cabin.

Some believe that the woman partially entered a dimensional gateway, and when she was pulled out, she experienced a shift that threw off her nervous system, resulting in her partial paralyzation.

4. The strange man who wound up shipwrecked in Germany from an unknown world

So this story goes, a peculiar guy popped up in a village, where he was picked up and questioned by authorities. The only comprehensible language he spoke was a broken variation of German, but he said his name was Jophar Vorin, and claimed to come from a part of the world known as Sakria. He conveyed that he was searching for his long-lost brother, whom he’d been separated from during a shipwreck. While he had geographical information regarding his home planet, such as five compartments known as Sakria, Aflar, Aslar, Auslar, and Euplar, he couldn’t trace his route on shore, and he would wind up living in Berlin, where he was a topic of discussion amongst the scientific, and simply curious, communities.

5. The universe in which the Beatles never broke up

In 2009, a man named James Richards was in Livermore California driving home from Turlock with his dog. He claims that when he pulled over to let the pup empty her bladder; she sprinted after a rabbit, and he followed her, but tripped, knocking himself unconscious. When James came to, he was next to an odd machine, in the company of a man named Jonas who claimed to have found his unconscious body while on a work trip for an interdimensional travel agency.

While they were together, Jonas and Richards wound up chatting about the pop culture in their respective universes, and discovered that not only did the Beatles also exist in this dimension, but they were all still alive and actively making music. Richards gained a cassette tape labeled “Everyday Chemistry,” which contained Beatles songs that never existed in our dimension. He even uploaded the songs to a website and called it TheBeatlesNeverBrokeUp.com

8 Movies Based On Time Travel To Stream Right Now

When we talk about “Time Travel” movies, the 1985’s classic Back to the future has its place reserved at the top. And with good reason—considered one of the best films ever made, this sci-fi flick paved the way for several other time travel films that followed. Also, the classic Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure has reserved a place in our hearts forever. But there are countless other great time travel flicks that deserve our attention too. So, here is a list of 10 movies based on Time Travel that you should add on to your watch list right now.

1. The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day

The Terminator (1984) - Trailer (HD) - YouTube

Terminator 1 and 2 are really quite different movies. In the first sequel, Arnie—the terminator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, acts as the bad guy. He’s sent back in time by a machine overlord to kill a woman who will give birth to a child that will lead the human resistance to victory. It’s a dark and weird story; a classic action film made on a stringent budget. The second, in contrast, is a big-budget, featuring perhaps the greatest special effects in movie history relative to their time. Here, Arnie, now a blockbuster star, demanded to play the good guy: He’s still a robot, but he’s defending the key kid from the icy, and more advanced, T-1000 robot.

2. Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko: Director Richard Kelly explains the cult classic's appeal, Jake Gyllenhall, and the new 4k theatrical release — Quartz

You’ll probably never look at rabbits as some cute animal after you see this. The cult classic follows a troubled, sleepwalking teenager who barely escapes a jet engine crashing into his room. But after the accident, he has several visions of a creepy, black, giant rabbit; Frank, who claims to be from the future and reveals that the world will end soon.

3. Looper

Looper • Movie Review • Movie Fail

Looper marked Johnson’s first swoop into the sci-fi genre, and he did so with vigor, offers a twisty time-travel story rooted in character foremost. The film takes the presupposition of, “What would you do if you went back in time and met your younger self?” and spins it on its head, adding in terrifically tense action sequences and heady moral quandaries for good measure.

4. Interstellar

Interstellar Review | Movie - Empire

The thrilling scenes and thought-provoking plot will blow to be fair. This one feels more like a sci-fi space movie, but it has some time travel elements too. Set in the year 2067, where humanity is struggling to survive, Interstellar tells the story of a group of volunteers who travel through a wormhole near Saturn, hoping to find a safer world in a distant galaxy. The star-studded cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon.

5. Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day Movies - The New York Times

This classic starring Star Bill Murray and directed by Harold Ramis has our hearts. Philosophical along with comedy and humour is always a win-win. Murray reportedly wanted the film to be more philosophical, while Ramis was always pushing the comedy. But it’s the push-and-pull between these two ideas that makes Groundhog Day a stone-cold classic. It’s hilarious, featuring some of Murray’s best comedic moments, but it’s also profoundly sad. The film doesn’t disregard the inherent loneliness of the premise—being stuck in the same day repeatedly.

6. 12 Monkeys

12 Monkeys (1995) | MUBI

Nearly four decades after a deadly virus gets released, destroying nearly all of humankind, James Cole (Bruce Willis), a criminal from the future, is chosen to travel back in time and help scientists create a cure. The movie also stars Madeleine Stowe, Brad Pitt and Christopher Plummer.

7. Primer

Primer (2004) | MUBI

Although this film was made on a small budget (just $7,000), Primer is one of the smartest and most thought-provoking time travel films you’ll ever see. Two engineers, Aaron (Shane Carruth) and Abe (David Sullivan), accidentally invent a time machine, causing them to experiment with a technology that allows humans to time travel. However, it’s only a matter of time before they realize the consequences of their actions.

8. About Time

About Time' Review: Richard Curtis' Charming Time-Travel Romance - Variety

About Time is certainly the most emotional entry on this list. The time-travel genre offers the opportunity to wax philosophical about death and regret, and About Time seizes it uniquely by focusing on a very earnest relationship between a father and a son. The romantic comedy portion between Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams is the hook, but the relationship between time-traveling father and son Gleeson and Bill Nighy is this film’s tear-jerking heart.

21 Virtual Graduation Ideas 2021 — How to Throw a Virtual Graduation Party

No one ever knew that coronavirus would stay on this long, and a 21 days lockdown would extend to a year and half now. All the plans, the expectations of getting a normal grad-farewell, went nowhere but into an invisible bin in space.
Day by day, breath by breath, I find it hard to live, to exist; sitting and wasting the last year of my graduation attending lectures online – what worse could happen. But no. The worse was yet to come an online farewell?! For real?

I get that this is not really as worse as the situation is out there. Millions of people have lost thier jobs and their only source of income. Many corners of the world has peoples starving to death. Here every passing second, I can hear the intensity of sirens increasing next street. My phone is buzzed with calls of my parents asking if I’m doing okay and also my relatives informing that they tested positive and we could do nothing but just be there emotionally, a thousand miles apart. Just like the cases, the number of deaths of knowns and unknowns are increasing and I’m so intimidated by the pain and anxiety this has left us with.

If we look back when everything was normal, when we could roam around with our friends and family, when we could have things we craved for at that instance, when we could watch skies changing colours while the sun setting down over chit chatting with our friends, when we could stay with them even if the sky turned dark. When there were no curfews, no restrictions, we could stay that way as long as we wished for.
Only if we knew in March’20, maybe then, we could hold on to our closer ones a little longer, we would enjoy that last sunset together a little longer, we would enjoy that one last meal together a little longer.
Only if we knew that time, we would appreciate those small little things more than we ever did. This pandemic taught us few lessons though; to reconnect with our loved ones; to appreciate and be grateful for every little joy of happinesses.

Ever since our births, we’re always taught to look at the brighter picture. This pandemic taught us few lessons though; to reconnect with our loved ones; to appreciate and be grateful for every little joy of happinesses. Even if we’re miles apart from our loved ones, we’re still connected to them by these screens; these megapixel screens act as a ray of hope to the darkness of despair around. In the end, all that I have now is just me and these megapixel screens. But, is it really an end if it’s not a happy one? Somewhere deep down in our hearts we still know we’re going to live that life before Covid again; where we would step out of our houses without masks & sanitizers. But this time hasn’t come yet. So, we still have to follow all the safety precautions as we know together we can get through this.

Most intriguing facts of Jagannath Puri

Shri Jagannath’s Temple in Puri has uttermost importance for the Hindu devotees as it is one of the Char-Dham pilgrimages i.e. Puri, Dwaraka, Badrinath, and Rameshwar. This temple is famous for its annual Rath Yatra, but that’s not the sole reason people worship Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra and elder brother Lord Balabhadra.

Jagannath Puri is also famous for the mysteries and undefinable facts that catch the traveler’s eye worldwide. Devotees believe that all these are blessings of Lord Jagannath, and people who consider these as myths should visit the place themselves and find themselves dumbfounded. So, here are some most intriguing facts about Jagannath Puri.

No birds, no planes fly above the Lord

They say no one’s above God, so nothing flies above it. It’ll leave you surprised to encounter such a divine miracle that no birds, no planes fly above the temple. This is a rare contrast compared to other temples, as we have always seen birds resting on the top of temples are other entities. The temple is considered as a no-fly zone, not by any state government orders but by the Lord himself. And this phenomenon apparently has no scientific explanation.

Flag defying the power of wind

All of us know that any cloth flows towards wind direction, be it the sails of ship or the kites we flew in our childhoods. But here, the flag that flies atop of the Jagannath temple is an exception to this common principle. No scientific explanations reason the flag flow in the opposite direction of wind.

As soon as you step inside the main door, i.e. Singha Dwara entrance of the temple, you can’t hear the burble of water. And this phenomenon is more prominent in the evenings. But once you step out the audibility of water returns. It’s said that Devi Subhadra wished for serenity inside the temple walls and by this her wish was duly fulfilled.

Neela Chakra at the pinnacle

The riddle of Neela Chakra (Blue wheel) has still been unsolved. First, just think about the fact, how did the wheel made of 8 different alloys and a 36 feet circumference get up there at the pinnacle with just a human force of that century. Second, the view of this wheel doesn’t really depend on the direction that we look at it from. It’s like it was designed to look the same from all directions.

The temple casts no shadows

Every small object/thing/ peoples have shadows. But ever wondered what if something doesn’t have a shadow? The temple Jagannath Puri doesn’t cast any shadow on any part of the day under sunlight. If this is not a miracle, what would it be; just an unexplained phenomenon with no scientific reason to back up.

The magical techniques to cook

The traditional methods for cooking the mahaprasadam have been preserved here from the start. They place exactly 7 pots, one above the other on the firewood. Enchantingly, the upper pot gets cooked first, followed by the rest in order.

Mahaprasad never goes vain here

In India, wasting food is considered as a bad sign; the temple crew lives by this same. So, here at Jagannath temple the food is never futile, even if the crowd of devotees may vary from 2,000 to 2,00,000. Miraculously, the Parsadam prepared every day is never wasted, not even a bite. Could this be an effective management or the Lord’s will?

After reading such celestial facts, you might want to see them yourself. So, do not forget to check these facts on your next trip to Odisha and share your experience with me.

Story – I see you

I always look forward up to the nights. Because that’s when we meet, right? I never felt myself until I met you. Like the day, I don’t feel the need to hold up a bright smile before you; I don’t feel the need to turn back and look at my shadow(s). With you, they go nowhere but into an invisible bin in space but come back again the following day. But with you, I am ready to embrace it all. With you, even the silence feels comfortable, and it doesn’t creep in into every vein in my body. With you, it’s all easier, easier to live, to breathe, to laugh, talk and have fun. Whenever the thoughts in my mind get a bit louder than the silence the night holds, you’re there to hear me out. You never say much, it’s always me rabbling on things, and you hear it all without complaints. With you, I feel like I’m being listened to. With you, I don’t feel judged; like the night sky, you have seen me cry.

Is it only me who felt warm last night?

The nights are often cold and frigid, but with you, they’re warm and cozy. I feel safe when you place your right arm on my right shoulder, and I lay my head on your chest – your language of telling me not to worry and life’s momentary; this shall pass too. But I don’t want this to pass away just like that. I want to lie against your chest a bit longer. I want you to hold me this way a bit longer.

But that’s when mum stepped in and invaded our personal space. As she switched on the lights, you were nowhere, as if you disappeared in the thin air.

Mom: Siya, who are you talking to?

Siya: I’m talking to Ajay. Please leave my room mom and don’t interrupt our talk.

Mom: Who Ajay? Our neighbour’s child? But, I can see no one here.

Siya: But he is right here (pointing towards the left), can’t you see him?

Mom: I can see no one here. You gotta sleep.

Siya: Fine.

*While walking back to her room, Siya’s mom was in a riddle. How could Siya talk to someone who died a week ago?*

The following day, Siya was drawing while chit-chatting with someone asking how was the drawing. Her mom when peeped at the paper, it was a guy aged as same as Ajay and wearing clothes similar to his style. When asked to Siya, she said that Ajay liked her drawing too and later she went to play chess in her room. Siya’s mom followed her to figure out the situation and realised Siya’s just 13, who taught her to play chess, that’s when she remembered Ajay; he was a state-level champion of chess. Siya’s mom was concerned about her daughter, so along with her dad, she took Siya to a child psychiatrist. The psychiatrist came up with a conclusion that she’s affected by a major psychiatric illness – schizophrenia. The disease is called “early onset” schizophrenia when it occurs before the age of 18. And this is the reason she’s been seeing visuals of things/ peoples that ain’t actually there.

What happens next once your child is diagnosed with schizophrenia?

Siya’s parents were quite distressed if there was a treatment to this or lifelong she’ll have to deal with the positive or negative symptoms. Further, the psychiatrist explained to them that there is no permanent cure for this but they could try reducing the severity of symptoms. The next step is developing a mutually agreed-upon treatment plan — incorporating psychotherapy, medication, and school and community support — that works for you, your child, and your family.

How do we treat schizophrenia?

As you addressed this early, the treatment might turn out more successfully. Your clinician will prescribe treatment methods that may include medication, psychotherapy, specialized educational or activity programs, and support groups. Siya’s parents supported the treatment as advised by the clinicians, which obviously freed Siya from often repercussions.

So, this is just a request to all the parents to address thier child’s mental health every once in a while and support the treatment procedures too. If addressed early, it’s better for everyone, the child, the parents and for the family too. Ignoring the symptoms might just worsen the symptoms and make the recovery impossible.

Story – A loop of Grief

This story not only epitomizes love, friendship, and resilience but also about loss, grief, and despair. This global pandemic has caught us in an infinite loop; the number of endless cases adding up each day and with it the increasing number of deaths.

A week ago, my best friend and also a Neurosurgeon, Ram Tripathi was infected by Covid-19
and was admitted to the same hospital. The day when he was admitted, his oxygen levels were
plummeting. And as the days passed, his health worsened and we had to put him on the ventilator. Every day, I personally went to his bed for checkups. For those 2 mins, he would ask about no one but his wife and his baby girl. I can still remember the last words he said to me the day before he died – “Promise me you’ll take care of my wife and Naira (his 5-months old daughter). Meera always wanted to be a baker but… I’ll have to leave her this journey halfway” At that moment all I could do was just hold his hands and assure him that he’ll be fine.

The next day, I was asked to hurry to the hospital, there was an emergency; It was Ram taking his last breaths. We all tried our best to save him but we couldn’t. I couldn’t process all of this and was asked to call his wife and inform her about his death. Somehow, I gathered the courage to dial her number but stood quiet. She was getting anxious with every passing second and lined up questions if Ram’s doing okay and why am I not speaking up. After a min, I said her that we lost him. She screamed and wept; I could hear the baby girl crying in the background too, only if she knew that her dad won’t be back home ever again. Today, lying on
the death bed, all that’s running in my mind is the promises I made to Ram. Also how after I die, my mother would be called and informed that she lost her son to Covid-19 too, how she won’t be able to believe that all her prayers were left unanswered.
But fortunately, I lived and I feel the only reason I’m alive is that I’d to keep the promise, the one that I made to Ram. Till the day I recovered, it was time to scatter Ram’s ashes. In my absence, Meera and Naira stayed at my place with my parents. Meera had already gone into deep despair. I could see her eyes all red as if she cried herself to sleep every night and shed blood tears. She often called me Bhaiya and I took it as my responsibility to make my younger sister achieve all her dreams and also keep my promise to Ram.
Years went and she was among the best bakers in our city yet I haven’t seen her smile in all these years. As if with Ram, her smile went along. Naira was her only ray of hope and only
motivation. She wanted her to live a better life and did every possible thing that Ram would have dreamt for her daughter.

Just like millions of people lost their loved ones to this Covid-19, Meera( Ram’s wife) lost her husband, and Naira (his 5-months old daughter) lost her dad even before she could talk to him. Yet Meera didn’t lose hope and stood strong to take care of her child all by herself. She started her own bakery shop with the help of funds arranged by Mayank initially. Later, she lived her life on her own terms and would never let her daughter’s wish unfulfilled.

Like Meera, when one feels stuck in a loop of grief or despair, just remember,

“हर कठिन समय के बाद

एक खूबसूरत सुबह जरूर होती है।

समय की विशेता यही है

की यह बदलता जरूर है।”

Women Empowerment

The concept of women empowerment has become a very significant topic of discussion in development and economies. Women empowerment is empowering women to take their own decisions for personal as well as social development. Empowering women is to make them independent in all aspects and to set them free from all social and family limitations.
Gender equality is, first and foremost, a human right. It implies a society in which women and men enjoy the same opportunities, outcomes, rights and obligations in all spheres of life. Equality between men and women exists when both of them are able to share equal distribution of power and influence; have equal opportunities financially through work and through setting up businesses; enjoy equal access to education and opportunity to fulfill personal ambitions. Yet there is discrimination against women and girls – including gender based violence, economic discrimination, sexual coercion, reproductive health inequalities, and harmful traditional practices. Women usually have less access than men to training and employment, medical care, property ownership, etc. They are less likely than men to be politically active and more likely to be victims of domestic violence. The ability of women to control their own fertility is absolutely fundamental. And when these reproductive rights – including the right to decide the number, timing and spacing of her children are free of discrimination, coercion and violence, she would have the freedom to participate more fully and equally in the society because when she would be healthy, she would be more productive. The roles of men and women are not biologically determined – they are socially determined and changeable.
India is a country where all the women are been honoured as goddesses since ancient times. However, when it approaches to providing them with correspondent rights the same people abandon its major importance and swallow that the main purpose of women is to take care of the family and kids firstly. Whereas, there have been various organizations and institutions advocating for women, supporting various projects that provides women basic education and health care requirements. Apart from these there are many welfare schemes for women – Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Ujwalla, ICDS, Kishori Shakti Yojana, etc. implemented by the Indian government. According to me every women should be given equal opportunities to education and employment without any gender bias. Now, we know that women empowerment is a minute key to economic growth and social transformation. And there’s an African proverb,
“If you educate a man, you educate an individual but if you educate a women, you educate a nation”

World Population Day – 11th of July every year

Today, 11th July has been recognized as World Population Day and the main significance of this day is to draw attention to the alarming global population issues. Among the 195 countries in the entire world, China tops the list recording the highest population and further India stands in the second position.

The day was established by the United Nations Development Programme in 1989 and was suggested by Dr. K.C.Zachariah in which the population reaches Five Billion when he worked as Sr Demographer at World Bank. On this day one should not only seek to raise awareness about the world population but also gives importance to issues like family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

The increasing population has always been a matter of concern. At the beginning of the 1800s, the recorded population was 1 billion. Then, at the beginning of the 2000s, the population recorded was around 6 billion. As of 2019, the world population recorded is 767.35 Crores. The massive rate at which the population is increasing is very distressing. With the increase in the number of human beings, the resources to sustain human life has come to a downfall. The natural resources available are limited while their consumption is increasing every year. If this continues increasing at the same rate, the day isn’t away when everyone here would be doomed.

Individuals always advocate through words and suggest the required steps to be taken to control the increasing population but very few carry out various programs at their institution or organizational levels to make people aware of the consequences this would lead to us if not controlled. In India, most of the remote area’s population aren’t even aware of basic human rights, educating them about various policies and family planning strategies can turn out to be beneficial. If we get a close look at the stats in India, the birth rate is increasing rapidly stating 51 births each min(as of 2020) and death rates decreasing comparatively to around 19 deaths each min(as of 2020). Taking this into consideration, reproductive health of woman is a matter of concern too. Maternal health affects adversely due to multiple rebirths and if one’s sexually active with multiple partners makes her more vulnerable to deadly diseases like vaginal and cervical cancer.

While the media/ press only surges on the count of the world population, leaders, small organizations, institutions should hold hands together to create and spread awareness about reproductive health issues and advocate their voices for the basic human rights of every individual. It’s also my request to the government to come forward with effective policies and schemes to control the population. And the concern is so widespread that the results won’t show up immediately, everyone has to be patient whilst these measures become effective. But if not controlled now, human life should get prepared for some adverse repercussions.
