Realism in the International System

Realism is a school of thought that explains international relation in terms of power. The exercise of power by States towards is called politics. Politics is the distinction between politics within a state and politics outside a state, because the state is assumed to have sovereignty, that is the government having structure, rule of law and a hierarchy. Realism can be understood as a body of theories and related arguments about how the world works.

One of the principles of how realism works on the aspect of international arena is groupism, where human beings need groups to survive because individuals are weak The most important human group are nation-states and nationalism are the source of ingroup cohesion. Secondly, egoism, people are self-interested as it is rooted in the human nature. Power centralism, politics is all about power and it is the fundamental feature. Realist assumes that international relation can be best explained by the choices of states operating as autonomous actors rationally pursuing their own interest in an international system of sovereign states without a central authority.

Another proposition is that a nation can only advance its interests against the interests of other nations;this implies that the international environment is inherently unstable.Whatever order may exists breaks down when nations compete for the same resources, for example, and war may follow. In such an environment, the realists argue, a nation has only itself to depend on.Structural realism or neorealism is a theory that deals with the importance of power in the stance of international relation, this was outlined by Kenneth waltz who was a believer of defensive realism described in his book that the world is in anarchy that there is no sovereign and basically every state is dependent on themselves called self-help.

Another important theoretical preposition about international relation is balance of power in which state will keep dangerous concentration of power by building up their own capabilities both internally and external balancing. Political realism works to find out how power is shared across the different countries and how the international system works. Its main focus is on power. It can be in domestic as well as international system. In domestic system it talks about politicians while in the international system it talks about nation states descriptive political realism commonly holds that the international community is characterized by anarchy, since there is no overriding world government that enforces a common code of rules realist tend to see military force as the most important element of national power. They believe that international system exists in a state of anarchy.

Alliance play a key role in the balance of power. Building up one’s own capabilities against rival is a form of power balancing but forming an alliance against a threatening state is more effective. During the cold war, the united states surrounded Soviet Union with military and political alliances to prevent soviet territorial expansion. Alliances can shift rapidly, with major effects on power relations. The world’s main alliance, including NATO face uncertain roles in the changing world order. In order to understand the foreign policy, the neoclassical realism plays an important role to understand the working of international system.

World Alzheimer’s Day: It will be very easy to remember anything in these fun ways

If people with weak memory have to struggle to remember anything, then the fun tips given here will be of great help to you….

It is true that due to increasing dependence on technology, we do not have much trouble even forgetting some things, but trying to remember things always proves beneficial for mental health. Here are some ways, with the help of which it will be very easy to remember the names of people and places, key dates and some important numbers.

Reiterate Names

When you meet someone for the first time, after hearing its name, repeat that name two or three times in your mind. Even if you have a five-minute conversation with them, always address them by their name during that time. This will make it easier for you to remember their name and they will also feel good.

Convert words to images

After hearing a new name, try to remember its meaning or any topic related to it. For example, if a person’s name is Pankaj, remember also that it means lotus flower, then you will always remember his or her name.

Adopt interesting ways

There are also some names of Hindi which can be translated into English in a fun way. For example, if a person’s name is Lal Bahadur Singh, then you can remember him by the name of Red Brave Lion.

Affiliation is required

Before saving the number of people, write a keyword with their name so that you will immediately remember why we had saved that mobile number. For example, if you talked to someone named Ashish for your child’s tuition, then save their number in your mobile name as Tuition Ashish. You won’t have any problems later.

Remember numbers in this way

It’s okay that people’s addresses and phone numbers are saved on your mobile. Yet the way to remember these is to remember it not in numbers but in words, for example, if someone’s house number is 315, it would be easier to remember it as three hundred and fifteen instead of three one five.

Add links for key dates

Even if Facebook reminds you, try to remember special occasions like your loved ones’ birthday and anniversary on your own. Often some of your friends or relatives’ birthdays will fall around each other. You can remember it like this – in the month of May, it is the birthday of three people, firstly of Soumya on the 2nd, Ketan on the 5th and finally of Saurabh on the 28th. In this way, you will never forget your close one’s birthday.

Stay organized

Often people forget their things by keeping them here and there. To avoid such a problem, make a habit of keeping the goods back from where they are taken. If you succeed in trying to remember these tips, you will soon forget the habit of forgetting.

Blogging in 2020 : Points to know before getting started

A blog (a shortened version of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational website displaying information in the reverse chronological order, with the latest posts appearing first, at the top. It is a platform where a writer or a group of writers share their views on an individual subject. The more frequent and better your blog posts are, the higher the chances for your website to get discovered and visited by your target audience. This means that a blog is an effective lead generation tool. Add a great call to action (CTA) to your content, and it will convert your website traffic into high-quality leads. A blog also allows you to showcase your niche authority and build a brand.

As a business, you rely on consumers to keep buying your products and services. As a new business, you rely on blogging to help you get to potential consumers and grab their attention. Without blogging, your website would remain invisible, whereas running a blog makes you searchable and competitive.

If you want to create a blog, you don’t need a revolutionary idea. But your blog should be focused on something specific.

Remember that no idea, no matter how good, is truly unique.

But you have unique experiences. You have a distinct voice. And, you probably have a vibrant personality that will attract others like your family and friends.

When it comes to choosing your blog’s niche, there are 2 key questions to ask yourself.

The appearance of blogs has changed over time, and these days blogs include a wide variety of items and widgets. However, most blogs still include some standard features and structure.

Here are common features that a typical blog will include:

  • Header with the menu or navigation bar.
  • Main content area with highlighted or latest blog posts.
  • Sidebar with social profiles, favorite content, or call-to-action.
  • Footer with relevant links like a disclaimer, privacy policy, contact page, etc.

To set up your blog on a personal website, there are a few things you’ll need to sign up for as you set up your blog, so it’s good to see how they all connect before we get too deep.

  • First, there’s the domain. This is the URL of the website. Think of it as the address for your business. You’ll need to buy your domain from a domain registrar. This is the company that you’ll use to buy your domain and hold it for you. They don’t host your site or anything — they just store your domain and point web traffic to your site which will be on your web host. Use Domain.com (they are my favorite) and get 25% off with coupon code “QUICKSPROUT”.
  • Second, the web host. This is the company that hosts your site. Your site will be on its servers. Here is my updated list of the best web hosting companies overall and I also dive into specific WordPress focused hosting companies in more detail below. The quick answer though is for most bloggers the best choice is BlueHost
  • Third, the tool to build your site. Very few sites are built by hand using raw HTML and CSS these days. Almost all of them are built using a tool. The tool handles a lot of heavy lifting and makes building a site substantially easier, especially if you have no idea how to code. This is how you’ll configure your site and publish your blog posts. For blogging, these tools are called content management systems (CMS) and the only real option is WordPress. Once you’ve installed WordPress on your host, you’ll be able to start building your site.

To recap, you’ll buy a domain using a domain registrar, install WordPress on your host, then start building your site. I’ll walk you through how to do each of these things step by step.

What exactly is Storytelling?

There is so much to speak and listen. Who doesn’t have a story to hear! Everybody has more than one story whether it is Job-related, life-connected, pains of social media etc. And don’t know how many stories we all are filled with. Just try it once. The stories start flowing. That is, life itself is made up of stories. Stories are produced and circulated in our lives one after another. Sayers say if they have something to say. If you know how to tell others, then everyone listens. How will they not listen? They need a teller. A storyteller who is proficient in telling and speaking his voice. There is no shortage of listeners in today’s date. If you have the skills to express, then the listeners are ready. If we can provide any other option to the audience or listeners similar to social media, then nothing can be better than this.

We enjoy or tell stories of our own or others through social media or other mediums. Who went where? What did they eat? Information about where one is roaming etc. is taken and given. Many times you are happy to share your personal moments with others and sometimes you know who is doing what? In whose life now new guests have arrived ? etc. Actually, man is such a living being who cannot sit empty. Either narrates stories of his past or is interested in listening. How efficiently you can tell the story of yourself or others matters. These days there is a great demand for storytellers and speakers in the corporate sector. Storytellers who connect them with management tools by connecting strings of small incidents and everyday life-related events. How a manager treats his team, how to make a project successful, etc. shares theoretical things through the story. The charge for each session is at least ten thousand. What is special about them? If there is something special, can’t we learn the skill of storytelling? There is also a question, what happens in these stories? Our life philosophy and life’s ups and downs are recorded in the stories. If this happened in his or her life, what kind of tricks did he or she adopt and got out of that situation? We often find the light of way and hope from those stories.

Actually, we understand more from stories rather than theories. In theory, you listen to many things and then throw them from the other ear. But when grandmother or friend narrates stories, our interest increases. Because a lot depends on what is said here, who is telling what things and how much interest they have on the stories of one’s own sufferings.

There are women or men in the street who have the skills to tell and narrate stories throughout the day. But we have to understand a difference here or by drawing a line that there is a fundamental difference between storytelling and blasphemy. As mentioned above, through the story in the corporate sector, the biggest and the smallest incidents and things are conveyed to the people. Case studies are also provided in management classes. It is said that such and such employees work in the company. People take more holidays there. So how do you as a manager handle it? Another example can also be that the company was incurring losses for the last two-three years. Production was not happening on time. But when a new manager and leader was appointed, he removed the company from shortcomings within six months and enabled it to run everything on time and according to the goal. Thus this story which we can name it case study. New students of management learn them. And let’s see how to introduce theory into practice.

We learn quickly by listening to and reading the story of how to mould the principles into practice or how a successful leader has succeeded in taking the principles and practices to take the company and organization to a new height. It may be a matter of separate discussion that our socialization has happened many times by principles and grammar. In it, schools, curriculum and textbooks nurture a conservative tradition to a large extent. Whereas in management, everything is tested and verified in practice. Perhaps because of a successful leader and manager, the company and organization achieve new heights.

We have to understand that if the new leader has the ability and skill to execute the sight and vision, from strategy-building to execution, then it can run any project on the path of development. This is a story. Companies share this story among their other employees. When a professional storyteller picks up the same story, he is treated completely different. Here, when we are talking about the story, then it is becoming a little different story of an academic narrator, novelist. Such a story sometimes slips from the eye of the narrator. We can also call such stories a case study.

Curiosity (science)

• Why do we wake up from sleep?

Sleep is essential to give the brain and nerves some rest. While we sleep, our bodies too, get a chance to recover from the fatigue caused by daily activities. When we are well rested, both physically and mentally, we wake up. Sometimes, we wake up because we feel cold or hungry or because a bad dream has made us afraid.

To sum up, we all have an internal body clock that tells our brain to wake our bodies up after a certain amount of time. However, some things or situations such as noise, temperature in the room or sunshine interrupt our sleep and wake us up too.

• Why doesn’t glue stick to the insides of the bottle?

The regular white glue that we use is made up of a variety of chemicals that are either sticky or stretchy. White glue also contains water. Water acts as a solvent that keeps the glue liquid until you want it to stick. When you put glue on a piece of paper, the water in it is exposed to air. The water eventually evaporates and as it does so, the glue dries and hardens and holds the things that need to be glued, stuck together.

When the glue is inside the bottle, there’s not enough air inside the bottle to cause the water to evaporate to make the glue sticky. The bottle protects the glue from the air and keeps the glue runny. This is also why if you’ve ever left the top off a glue bottle for a while, the next time you try to use the glue, it would have dried up.

• Why do the lights of a distant town appear to twinkle?

When you are traveling at night, the lights of towns in the distance appear to twinkle. This is because of the constant movement of air above towns. The air above towns is warm, as a result of the heat given off from buildings. Warm air keeps moving up to be replaced by cold air which then gets heated and rises. This constant movement of air is known as turbulence.

When we are near a town or in it, we don’t notice the turbulence because it is quite small and the lights are nearly. However, when we are some distance away, the lights are far away too. They appear as only pinpricks. The warm and cold air that make up the turbulence above the town have different densities and light passing through the layers is bent at different angles because of this difference. As a result it appears as though the lights of the distant town are twinkling.

• Why do clouds have different shapes?

Clouds are made up of tiny droplets of water vapour or ice particles or both. The shape of the cloud depends on its height and temperature. Cumuliform clouds are shaped liked mushrooms and are formed when rising warm air cools as it goes up. Stratiform clouds come in flat, dull layers and are formed when air sinks in a high pressure area, creating a layer of cold air near the ground that doesn’t rise or rises only very slowly. Cirriform clouds are clouds that have risen on a front or tropical cyclone and frozen into ice crystals at very high altitude. They look like thin hair. The shape of cloud also depends on the time of the day.

Towards evening, clouds tend to be thinner and flatter than during daytime. Changes in wind patterns also change the shapes of cloud.

Thank you for reading. Have a nice day!🌼

A God Who Hates Women : DR. MAJID RAFIZADEH

I had chosen to write about Dr. Majid Rafizadeh’s phenomenal novel  ‘  A God Who Hates Women’. It is a beautiful yet tragically moving story of a women caught in a patriarchal household. It takes us back to the times when women were seen as commodities sold off in markets. Choice was a word that women could not even imagine.

The story highlights the life of the authors mother, how she lived through oppression. This story forms around the background of a civil war. The novels throw light on the cruelties faced by  women in a patriarchal society. The story begins with a short background of how the authors grandmother was born. It later shows the birth of the authors mother which turned out to be a disgrace for her own mother, since she expected a baby boy. The story continues with the atrocities faced by his mother at her own home and how she was forcefully married to a man who abused her at all chances he got.  The story speaks mostly about the struggles faced by the authors mother in her journey. It shows the cruel side of patriarchy, how women carry it down more than men.

The book is set in the backdrop of a series of political tension in Syria and Iran. The author and his family have moved from Syria to Iran a couple of times and the book shows the difference in the culture in both the countries vividly. The book shows how much political leaders are influenced by religion and how they kill people cruelly who goes against them, the authors father was one such victim. Maybe the author might have also got the influence from his father, but in a much better way. The author was the founder of an organization on human rights which reported cases of human cruelty. The authors father has a very interesting character, he on one side focuses on how modern our thinking should be in various aspects of life except in the equal treatment of women. His character was rather paradoxical.

The name of the book also seems to bring out the story, about how the religion and its god were cruel to women. The people of the religion went to extreme ends to make sure that the rules of the religion are followed, sometimes inhumane practices were also used.

But one of the most important thing that the book has left out is that it hasn’t brought into consideration the larger issues faced by the people. The author has merely had an interview with the close members of his family and friends. And so we cannot really say that the book speaks about the whole of Syria. After certain parts of time in the book, it fails to show the feelings of Amira, the authors mother. How she felt about religion, her passion and how she lied to herself to live for her children. The authors life has been glossed over for most parts and it talks in the perspective of the author while the book was about his mother. More focus should have been given to her as well as the political conditions too.

Chocolate and its Evolution

Chocolate is a sweet brown food preparation of roasted and ground cacao
seeds that is made in the form of liquid, paste or in a block or used as a flavoring ingredient in other foods .The word ‘Chocolate’ is the Aztec word, ‘Xocolatl’, which means ‘Bitter Water’.Theobroma cacao is the scientific name of the tropical tree that bears the fruit whose name means the ‘food of he gods’.

The Brief history behind chocoloate

Before the 16th century chocolate existed in mesoamerica. The first
people to use chocolate were probably known as Olmec of what is today southeast Mexico. They lived in the area around 1000 BC where the cacao trees grew
wild. It is not yet known if the Olmecs actually used chocolate. However the Maya who inhabited the same general area a thousand years later did use chocolate. The Mayans used the cacao beans as currency. Even after
counterfeits were made by carving clay, the beans were still used as currency in parts of Latin America until the 19th century. The Mayans also used chocolate in religious rituals. They were also
used in marriage ceremonies and baptism. They even had a cacao god. But the Mayans prepared chocolate strictly for drinking. Only the rich
could afford this luxury. Emperors were often buried with jars of chocolate at their side. After the Aztecs overthrew the Mayas they kept the chocolate tradition
alive. The Aztecs dominated the region and continued using cacao as currency. Soon after the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs, chocolate was imported to Europe.

How did chocolate become so popular?

The Spanish initially did not like the bitter taste of chocolate but imported it back
to Europe. It was therefore initially used as medicine to cure abdominal pain . By the 1590s chocolate was mixed with honey, vanilla, and sugar, giving it a much
sweeter taste. Initially chocolate was considered sinful by some members of the church as some
drank it to divert themselves from a long service. This changed as the elite and
noblemen supported its consumption. However chocolate always remained a drink.
After the introduction of industrialization, entrepreneurs began experimenting
with different machinery to facilitate the process of separating cacao butter from
cacao seeds. Soon cacao powder was produced and chocolate now became more mass
produced. However it was still a product for the upper class.

Who first invented chocolate

The creation of the first modern chocolate was by Joseph Fry who
discovered in 1847 that he could make a mold able chocolate paste by
adding melted cacao butter into Dutch cacao. It was by 1868 a little company called Cadbury was marketing boxes
of chocolate candies in England. Milk chocolate hit the market a few
years later pioneered by another name – Nestle. By the 19th century chocolate became a mass produced.

Types of chocolates

base of all types of chocolate. This thick dark brown paste is created from

Stop Procrastinating, Do it now!

Procrastination is the thief of time. Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder.

– Mason Cooley

But still, we make a habit of avoiding tasks tomorrow because we do not understand the harm caused by this habit. This habit prevents us from being successful and makes us lazy. When we postpone a task tomorrow, we are actually telling our subconscious mind that I am unable to do this task today or I do not like to do it due to our laziness or fear. And every time we postpone that work tomorrow, we often reinforce in our subconscious mind that “I am unable to do this work” and “My laziness and fear are determined by my determination to do this work are strong ”.

After a time, the “laziness” or “fear” in us becomes so strong that we either never do those tasks or we have to face a lot of trouble in doing even the smallest tasks.

How to stop procrastinating

We postpone tasks because at this time we are not feeling good about doing the work or we feel that we will be able to do this work better tomorrow. We can avoid postponing tasks by adopting the following methods –

7 Tips to Stop Procrastinating

# 1. Stop looking for excuses to avoid work and believe that the best time to do the work is today and now.

#2. Change the workplace environment. If you do not like to do that work right now, it may be because of the workplace environment. By changing the environment a little bit, we can increase our productivity.

# 3. Increase the willpower to do the work and think about the good result that will be achieved after the completion of this work. Commit that you will do this work now and right now.

# 4. Recharge yourself before starting work. Do something in 10-30 minutes that makes you feel good like meditation, yoga, listening to music, walking in the garden, watching motivational videos or taking a nap for 20 minutes of sleep, etc. This will change your mood and you will be able to prepare yourself to do that work.

# 5. Make a list of tasks on a paper and write your plan on paper. Do not waste too much time planning work. And don’t change your plan, again and again, just do the work. Planning too much is a disease that prevents us from starting work.

# 6. Concentrate on that task and stop disruptions of concentration like social media, email, etc. until the work is completed. These small interruptions waste your time and as we have less time, we start thinking about avoiding work.

# 7. Divide the work into small parts and complete it. Only think about a small part of that work at a time and concentrate and complete that small part. This makes the task easier for us and when we complete apart, our confidence increases, which strengthens our will power to complete that task.

Hope it helps!
At last, Stop Procrastinating, Start Acting!

The most important journey of our lives is discovering who we truly are. Have you ever asked yourself- Who you are?
Well, if you didn’t then ask yourself today and try to find your answer !
Finding yourself may additionally sound like an inherently self-centered goal, however it is simply an unselfish process that is at the root of everything we do in life. Now, let’s discover some of the ways to find out our authentic self.
1) Make sense of our past- In order to find out who we are and why we act the way we do, we have to be aware of our own story. Being courageous and willing to explore our past is an important stepping stone on the avenue to appreciate ourselves for who we are  and changing into who we prefer to become. Research has shown that it isn’t simply the things that has  happened to us that outlines who we become, but its how much we’ve made sense of what has occurred to us.
So, in order to grow in life and to understand yourself better you will have to make peace with your past, clear up your past issues, recognize your behavior patterns, fix yourself if needed and change for the better. Do not continue to be caught up in your past conflicts.
2)Differentiate- Differentiation refers to the procedure of striving to increase the experience of ourselves as unbiased individuals. In order to find ourselves and to genuinely live our lives in the best viable way, we ought to differentiate ourselves from the rest. We have to attempt to locate our traits that makes us special and unique from others. We ought to additionally try to find our very own values, morals and ideas rather than blindly accepting those values and morals one has grown up with.

Finding your self and your happiness is a challenge inextricably linked to discovering meaning in life and for discovering the meaning in your existence you must have certain goals and dreams to obtain in your lifespan, to make it a life worth living.
4) Recognize your personal power- When we recognize what we prefer and what are our desires that we want to achieve, we are challenged to take control over our lives. We no longer have interactions with  ourselves in a spiral of negative questioning that tells us all the things that are incorrect with the world round us or all the motives we can’t have what we want. Instead, we begin accepting ourselves as a powerful participant willing to write our own destiny. Utilising our personal power is vital to both discovering and becoming ourselves.
5) Practice generosity-
Mahatma Gandhi once stated ” The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” In addition to improving your intellectual and physical fitness and extending your lifespan, generosity can enhance one’s experience of reason and attach a meaning to life. It is frequently considered that humans derive more joy out of giving than from receiving. So, if you desire to discover your way in life, it’s beneficial to exercise generosity as an intellectual health precept and take on a compassionate mind-set towards  your self and others.
So, if you want to discover your true self, first uncover your past, understand why you are the way you are, develop your own set of beliefs and principles to follow, find a reason to live for, stay focused on what you want out of your life, work hard to achieve your dreams and finally practice generosity to attract happiness into your life. Go ahead and follow the above-mentioned ways and I hope you will discover the real ‘YOU’ soon!

Courses and Career: Peaking Into Some Lesser Explored Ones

Selecting a future line of study and eventually profession can sometimes become a bit stressful. Or bland. If not many options are known. We all, at some point of time, have dreamt of doing something unique, or tread on, as Robert Frost’s poem title beautifully captures, ‘The Road Not Taken’. Hence, you are being presented with a collection of courses of scientific discipline, which is not mainstream, yet.

  • Ethical Hacking: Wait a second before judging this profession! It is hacking, yes, but for a good cause. Ethical hacking, also known as penetration testing, is used to test the security and susceptibility of an organization’s network to a breach. This usually results in data theft, identity thefts and other cyber crimes. So, the job of an ethical hacker is to identify and possibly, help to rectify the more weak openings in a network. Though, this course can be more unambiguously classified under IT, but in recent times, the subject has carved its own niche in the market, with an ever increasing demand. Ethical hacking courses usually also include other forms of security to impart an holistic understanding of IT security.
  • Geology: One common misconception about this branch of science is that this deals only with rocks. But in reality, it does not! Geology aims to provide a more in depth understanding about the physical and structural development of Earth. It inter relates various disciplines of science in relation to Earth. Geology also encompasses the study of materials and components making up the Earth, including living organisms. It is a lesser known fact, but geology is a vast and diverse study, overlapping with various scientific disciplines. Hence, the geologists have no dearth of options to consider while embarking on a professional journey.
  • Urban planning: Unplanned expansion of a settlement leads to many short and long term issues. And in today’s world, space crunch is a very real problem. So large scale developments need to be planned to have optimum utility and also not cause much harm to the surrounding environment. Here comes in the job of urban planner. The individual might be responsible for things like sustainable designing, good connectivity with other locations, optimum structures with respect to geographical location and climatic conditions, land use planning etc.
  • Astrobiology: Sounds interesting, right? And it is! Astrobiology deals with the study of the scope of extraterrestrial life in the Universe. The study includes origin, evolution, distribution and future possibility of life across the unending stretch of cosmos. Astrobiologists, alongside other individuals from disciplines like astroecology, astrogeology and biochemistry, analyze these possibilities based on whatever knowledge is obtained about other planets and planetary systems.
  • Pisciculture: India, with an abundance of water bodies, also has a large population of fish consumers. And, obviously with growing demand, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with a constant supply. Hence like the Green Revolution, Blue Revolution happened too in India. It aimed at the development of the aquatic industry, for various purposes. Pisciculture, also known as fish farming, focuses mainly at rearing and breeding fishes in an economic manner, usually as a source of food. Optimum use of water bodies (usually fish tanks or enclosures) is also an important aspect, so that maximum cultivation can be done at minimum permissible limits.

Biodiversity : An overview

The earth provides for millions of species across the globe. Some of which are known to us and others not. We all are connected to each other in various ways and have to support each other too. Species which make proper and sustainable use of this system perish while others meet their destruction.

Biodiversity deals with the degree of nature’s variety in biosphere. This variety can be observed at three levels

  • The genetic variability within a species
  • The variety of species within a community
  • And the organization of species in an area into distinctive plant and animal communities.

Biodiversity provides a variety of environmental services from its species and ecosystem that are essential at the global, regional and local levels. The Production of oxygen, reduction of carbon dioxide, maintenance of the water cycle and protection of the soil are some important services.

Biodiversity is the amount of variety of life on Earth. It is the number of different species of plants, animals, and microorganisms. It includes organisms from Earth’s vastly different ecosystems, including deserts, rainforests, coral reefs, grasslands, tundra, and polar ice caps. Our biodiversity is very important to the well-being of our planet. Most cultures, at least at some time, have recognized the importance of conserving natural resources. Biodiversity is the occurrence of different types of ecosystems, different species of organisms with the whole range of their variants and genes adapted to different climates, environments along with their interactions and processes.

Importance of Conserving Biodiversity

Biodiversity produces a number of products harvested from nature and sold in commercial markets. Indirectly it provides economic benefits to people which include water quality soil protection, equalisation of climate, environmental monitoring, scientific research, recreation etc. The consumptive value can be assigned to goods such as fuel woods, leaves, forest products etc. which may be consumed locally and do not figure in national and international market.

The loss of biodiversity directly influences the social life of the country possibly through influencing ecosystem functions (energy flow and biogeochemical cycle). This be easily understood by observing detrimental effects of global warming and acid rain which cause an unfavourable alteration in logical processes

Aesthetic values such as refreshing fragrance of the flowers, taste of berries, softness of mossed, melodious songs of birds, etc. compel the human beings to preserve them. The earth’s natural beauty with its colour and hues, thick forest, and graceful beasts has inspired the human beings from their date of birth to take necessary steps for its maintenance. Similarly botanical and zoological gardens are the means of biodiversity conservation and are of aesthetic values.

Since earth is homeland of all living organisms, all have equal right to coexist on the surface of earth with all benefits. Unless some legal value is attached to biodiversity, it will not be possible to protect the rapid extinction of species. Biodiversity must be seen in the light of holding ethical value. Since man is the most intelligent amongst the living organisms, it should be prime responsibility and moral obligation of man to preserve and conserve other organisms which will directly or indirectly favour the existence of the man.

Biodiversity holds great ecological value because it is indispensable to maintain the ecological balance. Any disturbance in the delicately fabricated ecological balance maintained by different organisms, will lead to severe problems, which may threaten the survival of human beings.

Biodiversity has great economic value because economic development depends upon efficient and economic management of biotic resources. In the day to day life, human beings are maintaining their lifestyle at the sacrifice of surrounding species which come from diversity of plants and animals struggling for their existence.
