The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

What is growing old? Is it accumulating experiences and memories or making memories? Scientifically growing old means your body accumulates damages and is no longer able to function normally. What if someone could grow younger instead of older? The movie plays with a similar idea, it focuses on a man that grows younger instead of older.

The movie starts with an elderly Daisy Fuller on her deathbed in august 2005, she tells her daughter about a clock that ran backwards. The clock was installed on a station in 1918 by a clock worker that wanted it to be an memorial to everyone who lost their lives in the second world war. On the evening of November 11 19118 a boy is born with the appearance of an old man, he is abandoned as an infant on the steps of a nursing home run by Queenie and Mr Weathers. They decide to raise the boy as their own in the nursing home.

Benjamin has to use a wheelchair till 1925 as he cant walk, he however learns to walk and is given crutches. Benjamin although physically old is mentally only about 7. He meets seven year old daisy and becomes good friends with her. Wishing to see more of the world he accepts work on a tugboat captained by Mike Clark, they form a close friendship while working together. Benjamin is contacted by Thomas Button a rich older man who seems to like his company, Thomas hides the fact that he his Benjamin’s father. Benjamin leaves with Mike on along-term work engagement.

In 1941 Benjamin meets Elizabeth Abbot in Murmansk and begins courting her, in December Japan attacks Pearl harbour bringing the War to United States. Captain Mike volunteers the boat for the U.S.Navy, the boat is assigned to salvage duties. After nearly dying in a fight against a German gunboat Benjamin and some surviving crewmen are rescued by a Navy ship, Benjamin returns to New Orleans in 1945 and reunites with Queenie. Benjamin learns that Mr Weathers passed away a while back. Benjamin meets Daisy and has dinner with her before she departs for New York. Benjamin is contacted by Thomas who reveals his relation and leaves his estate to Benjamin.

In 1947 Benjamin visits Daisy in New York but leaves once he realises that she has fallen in love with someone. He meets Daisy again in 1954 after her accident in Paris, a frustrated Daisy asks Benjamin to leave her life. In 1962 their paths cross again in New Orleans, they decide to give their relationship a shot as they are of similar physical age. The two move in together in 1967, Daisy give birth to their daughter Caroline. In 1968 believing that he cant be a proper father, Benjamin liquidates his assets and leaves their lives. Benjamin travels the world alone in the 1970s.

In 1980 Benjamin meets a married Daisy who introduces him as a family friend, they part once more after a short reunion. In 1990 a widowed Daisy is contacted by social workers who find a pre-teen Benjamin living in an abandoned building. Daisy moves into the nursing home and cares for Benjamin the rest of her life. Benjamin finally dies in 2002 as an infant but chronologically 84 years old. Daisy dies having revealed the truth about Benjamin to their daughter Caroline.

This is an amazing movie with a really unique concept which explore the possibility of ageing backwards. A must watch for fans of science fiction, the plot is amazing and makes you think. The cast is amazing as well Brad Pitt plays Benjamin Button and Cate Blachet plays Daisy.

“SHOULD OTT BE REGULATED ?”

Regulation of OTTS is a matter of great concern for government.

OTT platforms have grown rapidly in India, especially during the coronavirus-induced lockdown period, when the closure of film theatres led several production houses to release their films directly on OTT platforms. And this allows them to conveniently bypass even the basic scrutiny of a film regulatory authority. Many also believe that OTT platforms often perpetuate sexual crimes and soft porn, amplify bloodshed and gore which can potentially inflame passions, especially in young minds. Unregulated content can be damaging especially for a country like ours where communal tensions are not uncommon. Content on OTTs are age restricted , since their is no censor board for such & everyone can watch it , the content is influencing young minds in wrong way , which is why they need to be regulated.

Regulated OTT content could also imply missed opportunities for filmmakers and actors who are lured to the medium for the creative freedom it offers. This is the only drawback of regulation of OTTs . Filmmakers comes to this platform because this platform offers freedom of creativity , they can make whatever they want to , yes it is true that they make what is real , but this reality often brings problems among young minds because these minds are not able to take the message behind the content but grasp the things which are not meant for them .

In my view, self-regulation is highly preferred to strict censorship as the latter will curtail the creative freedom of OTT video platforms. If OTT platforms self-regulate and take adequate measures to ensure prohibited content is not watched by children and carry content descriptors, among other safeguards, they would emerge as the best platforms for content watchers

Broadcasters Association (NBA) regulates news channels, and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regulates film content. There is no such regulatory authority operating to scrutinize digital media content. So unregulated content that is now widely accessible owing to cheap data connections and the proliferation of smartphones has become a cause of concern. So there must be a regulatory body for OTTs , so that without violating the rules & guidelines & without showing content which is not good , they can give content which is meant for all & loved by all

A Reliable Learning Via Robotics and machines….

IMPORTANCE OF STEM EDUCATION FOR AN ENHANCED LEARNING

  • Definition Of Stem

STEM is an artificial intelligence related to Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics but it is a vast concept of more than these. It integrates and builds an advanced system of education taking into account every individual’s attention. STEM kind of learning needs to be paid attention as it has an improved technology with enclosing subjects that teaches moral values and discipline in inter-relating one another.

The main motive is to build advanced geniuses in the teenage able to tackle subject and real-time oriented issues. This tech unites with pupils making them to be well-versed and multi-talented in all occasions.

  • Benefits of STEM related education

This kind of learning is focused on building higher order of thinking among students by connecting them a classroom experience to the modern world. A future model is built under campuses for upgrading their problem-solving ability, thinking skill, communication skills and creativity to sort out various critical circumstances in reality.

Generally, focuses on practical experience with real-time applications that gradually builds the skills ability level and shaping them to utilize a sense od outstanding creativity in a competitive world of 21st century.

The students brought up from this kind of teaching can tackle the reality as well as social media/virtual world simultaneously with their brilliance and social skills that comprises of curiosity, social skills, leadership, management and acceptance of up and downs in life.

At that stage without realizing they randomly choose a false decision making them fall in a pit, which will be realized on later times by the same individual after which nothing can be undone.

This system basically concentrates on those kinds of cases so the growing kids can be exclusively intelligence while handling such experiences. This AI creates a similar kind illusion to make them think and decide their choices accordingly so they can adopt to changes or select a decision more preciously.

  • Differences from normal learning and AI integrated learning

In a standard learning taught by faculties they can give you their knowledge ask them to explore it on your way but mostly pupils memorize concepts that will be totally vanished in this type of system where a machine will broaden every word and concept of subject and explaining the facts deeper by triggering your anxiety to grasp the entire knowledge.

They also become as Book-worms instead of knowing the working behind every concept thus it becomes like mugging/memorizing and vomiting/producing in exam papers just for marks rather than knowledge or skill developed education.

STEM education is the path of future learning making upcoming generation as innovative ones.

These AI models create crucial real-time happenings thus testing their initial level of thinking and providing solutions to the same. By doing this they actually promote their working of brain at a younger age which we call as maturity and experience at small ages.

It is also a known to contribute steps towards economic growth by this deep level thinking knowledge (innovation) which is unique in every kid. That is why each one is special but as they discover their innovative skill it becomes too late for individuals so by enhancing them to bring up their key skills so they are ready to face out life and unavoidable circumstances.

The base of any product to be recognized is how you explain and elaborate the advantages and benefits that grasps attention to every single student in a whole crowd or in a classroom.

If you are self-motivated to prove and provide minute specifications for the useful machine integrated model (AI/STEM education) it can be an added information for users so they support and promote in various different ways.

  • Social Media Channels

The enlarged platform of these trending applications has several unique features under each portal those are different from one another. From audience till owners of some companies have adopted to this virtual world that helps growing merchants to develop and stand tall of their product.

” HOW I LEARNT KINDNESS ” based on true incident .

It was a rainy day . The monsoon was on its peak , I was getting ready for my school as it was my economics exam . I need to reach at my school campus at 10:00 O’clock & my school was 3 km away. At 9:45 , I asked my father to drive me to my school as fast as he could . My father took his bike & asked me to come fast . I took my umbrella , we were just crossing our flooded streets , my father stopped hi bike , & asked me to see a girl . I saw that girl , she was from my school only . Dad said she was waiting for rikshaw & every one listening to me right now can imagine how difficult is to get rickshaws in rainy season. I was getting angry because I was getting late for my exam as i can’t afford to leave my exam . I asked him to leave that place. He said , if you are so much concerned about your exam she would also be . He stopped his bike in front of her , asked her to come with us . She got scared . I could feel what what she was feeling . Everybody’s parents aske them the same thing ” DON’T TALK TO STRANGERS”. I looked at her face , I was angry , but could feel that she want some assurance , I asked her to come with us , she hesitated , I said politely ” come ! we are from same school & your security is in my hand “. she smiled . she sat with me, I put my umbrella on her head .

i reached at my school gate at 10:10 , i came off from the bike , so did she . She ran towards the school gate as it was about to close. While she was running , she turned towards us & said ” Thankyou uncle , thankyou Didi ” . On that day I learnt kindness from my dad . Smile on her face can clearly tells us how grateful she was to us or she would have left her exam . If I would be at my dad’s place. I would never stop my bike as it was raining heavily & her daughter is continuously shouting on him to drive fast . But he did , I learnt a lesson that in this world which is full of people who care for themselves , we should be the one who care for others , we should be the one who care for others , we should be the one who have to look & sense others problem . I learnt that people are always concerned about their own problems like me , I was concerned about my exam only , but their are people who are looking at others & their are people who are concerned about others . We should devote few hours of our day to look for others problem , this is what I learnt on that day .

How Much Does India Invest In Olympic Athletes?

Postponed by a year due to the pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics is now less than a month away. Last week, the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju urged the people to extend their support to India’s Olympic-bound athletes, the same way they back India’s cricketers. However, India’s abysmal performances at the Olympics is in striking contrast to India’s immense success at cricket. The model of sports governance and financial irregularities are often blamed for the lack of competitive edge in sports other than cricket. So, the most obvious question that comes to our mind is, how much does India invest in the Olympics?

Money allocated for Sports

In the 2020-21 annual budget, the Government of India allocated Rs 2826.92 crore for sports, which meant an increase of mere ₹ 50 crore from the revised estimates of the financial year 2019-20. The Modi government’s flagship sports programme ‘Khelo India’ received a substantial hike of ₹ 312.42 crore and was allocated ₹ 890.42 crore compared to ₹578 crore in 2019-20. On the other hand, the National Sports Development Fund saw a reduction of ₹ 27.15 crore from ₹77.15 crore in 2019-20 to ₹ 50 crore in 2020-21. National Sports Federations saw the highest decrease after Finance Minister allocated ₹ 245 crore, ₹ 55 crore less than the previous financial year, according to The Wire. Even the budget for meritorious sportspersons saw a 40% reduction from the last financial year. It is important to note that the 2020-21 annual budget was presented in January 2020, when the government had no idea of the coming pandemic. It was also supposed to be the year of the Tokyo Olympics.

Target Olympic Podium Scheme

While these are the broad schemes under which Indian sportspersons are funded, the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) provides financial assistance to potential Olympic medal winners. Launched in 2014, TOPS is the flagship programme of the Sports Ministry of India. The top-up funding scheme considers the performance of Indian athletes in the past three years. They are provided with personal coaches and other staff fees, cost of travel during competitions, purchase of equipment, and pocket allowance.

Looking Back At The Last Olympics

In the 2016 Rio Olympic, India spent ₹ 36.85 crore under TOPS, as per Financial Express. Nearly half of that amount was spent on shooting, which was India’s most successful Olympic sport in the previous three games. Shooting is also very expensive, which requires importing equipment from other countries. But shooting failed to bring any medal. Athletics received the second-highest funding of ₹ 7.80 crore in 2016, but India failed to make a mark in the sport. Unfortunately, out of the ₹ 36.85 crore, ₹30.49 crore had gone to disciplines that fell short of goals. Only 1.66 per cent of the total TOPS fund went to the fields that brought India two medals – PV Sindhu in Badminton and Sakshi Malik in wrestling.

Comparison With Other Countries

The United Kingdom allocated close to Rs 9000 crore on sports infrastructure and training in the annual sports budget, whereas India spent only one-third of the UK, Rs 3,200 crore, on youth affairs and sports, before 2016. The UK won 67 medals against India’s two at the Rio Games 2016. Abhinav Bindra had also tweeted back in 2016 that a medal cost UK 5.5 million pounds, and that is the kind of investment India needs to make. Otherwise, we cannot expect much. In the USA, a large number of athletes are privately funded. Individual athletes had started their own funding portal for donations from the general public. Therefore, only 10% of the US Olympic Committee’s finance was spent on athletes in Rio 2016, and the USA finished first. China, on the other hand, is known for its aggressive state-sponsored promotion of sports.

Private Investment In India

Before the 2016 Olympics, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) received donations from Reliance Jio, Amul, Tata Salt, Edelweiss Financial Services, Herbalife, Li Ning, and SBJ. Sakshi Malik had also thanked JSW Sport, a foundation funded by the OP Jindal group, after becoming India’s first medal winner in Rio Games, as reported by Hindustan Times.

However, unlike NSDF, where the contributions and sponsorships are open and documented, private funding to individual athletes is not. And most recently, the JSW Group has come on board to be the official sponsor of Team India in the Tokyo Olympics and has agreed to pledge sponsorship support of ₹ 1 crore to IOA. In 2018, the Sports Ministry earmarked ₹ 100 crore for funding of the athletes for the preparation of Tokyo Olympics 2020, which will take place this year. While the number of medals won cannot be equated to the investments made, since medals are not the only measure of success, India nonetheless needs to invest more and put in a new model of sports governance in action. ALL ABOUT AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Write in an autobiography the author writes the story of his own life and achievements. It is the successful presentation of personality. It takes its origin in the common human heart to express once-on achievement in the form of writing. The writer may give a full account of his life in detail or he may give only a few anecdotes or events from his life.

The great drawback of an autobiography is that it can never be complete because it comes to an end before the author’s death. Doctor Johnson preferred autobiography to biography saying that every man’s life is best written by himself. The writer of his own life has the full knowledge of the truth through sometimes he made disguise or suppress it in his writings. From the psychological viewpoint also an autobiography is preferable because the writer knows what are the motives, hopes, and omissions that prompted him to decisive moments in his life. Thus while biography is the product of second-hand knowledge, autobiography is the product of the first-hand experience. R.L. Stevenson says, “There is no truer sort of writing than what is to be found in autobiographies, and certainly none more entertaining”.

An autobiography is a candid narration of events in the author’s life. It may take the form of a confession, apology, self-scrutiny, or a mere delightful account. When it is a mere account of facts without reference to the author’s inner conflicts and motives it is an objective autobiography. When an autobiography reveals the character and inner struggle of the writer and the present a searching analysis of his moods, motives, and fancies, it is subjective. St. Augustine’s confession’s, the earliest example of an autobiography, belongs to the subjective kind. So also Rousseau’s ‘Confessions’ written in the 18th century. Three other important autobiographies appeared in the 18th century. Those of David Hume, Edward Gibbon, and Benjamin Franklin.

Chief characteristic of an autobiography:

  • Truth should be the Hallmark of an autobiography. facts should not be perverted. A true picture of the writer’s personality should emerge from the autobiography. Gandhiji’s autobiography is the best example in this respect.
  • Courage and frankness are the essential virtues of a good writer of an autobiography. The writer should not be secretive and reluctant. Bertrand Russell’s three-volume autobiography is noted for these qualities.
  • The author of an autobiography should be objective in dealing with contemporary events and personalities. Autobiographies of Gibbon and Nehru are good examples of this kind.
  • The author should not be verbose in his description or narration.
  • Self-consciousness is the very essence of an autobiography. An autobiography should not aim at self-effacement as in the autobiography of T.E. Lawrence. Similarly, the author of an autobiography should not indulge in self-clarification.
  • The style should be interesting and even entertaining. A natural felicity of expression and flashes of humor and wit are essential attributes of an autobiography.

Some difficulties an autobiographer faces:

  • He is likely to forget the impressions and emotions connected with the events that happened in the distant past. Sometimes there may be embarrassing episodes he would like to hide or reveal only partially.
  • It is difficult for anyone to be entirely objective while dealing with contemporary persons and events that have affected his personal life and happiness.
  • An autobiographer is likely to omit the details of daily life that are common. This may lead to some falsification.

Fashion-Changes in clothing styles-An overview

Fashion industry is a fast growing industry offering great opportunities to fashion enthusiasts all over the world. It has evolved over time and now people wear clothes not only to cover themselves but to express as well. Now, clothes are more about styling and depicting one’s personality. In fact, people are divided on this basis. You can see variation in clothes of rich and poor, native and foreign, and many other categories all over the world. The clothing sense of countries also differ whether they are neighbouring or distant.

In earlier times, people would stitch together the threads just to make garments for their use but now they make it for others as well. It has now taken shape of a business where tailors sell ready-made as well as on-demand outfits to the public. There have been a variety of production when it comes to designs in clothes. Focusing mainly on Indian clothing styles, it initiated from kurta-pyjamas for men and women wore ghagra-choli(tops with long skirts) which evolved to jeans and tops/shirts in the modern era.

It is more about fashion now. The standard of a person is being decided by their clothes and sense of fashion determines how up-to-date a person is. Even if we observe the changes in school uniforms, you will see an improvement for the sake of becoming modern. There occurs a difference between the uniform of a govt. school and that of a private school. The more reputed schools(usually private schools with high fees) design their uniforms in a more formal and aesthetic way than a local one. This also marks the standard of a school.

In India, there is ‘unity in diversity’. The diversity here signals to the variability in culture too, among other differences. People of different regions follow their own culture and practices where the difference in clothing sense is not a big thing to notice. Every region, religion and tradition has its own look which is used to identify them. But, from a farther view, we all look same, following a similar trend. It is only the days of special occasion when people would merry on wearing ethnics and all, otherwise we all follow a common fashion expressing our united beliefs in modernity and comfort clothing.

Ongoing is the time of ripped jeans and extra-size t-shirts which is common in male and female dress code. Fashion gives the advantage of designing without differentiating. As much as can be a women’s apparel be unique and decorative, a men apparel too can be so. There are no limits to fashion. People prefer a new type every time it takes the lead. This indicates how alert and active people are, in relation to their dressing and looks. Some people would prefer more pockets in their lowers to make it useful while some would like tight-fitted, printed jeans even without pockets. The times are always changing and one or the other trend always catches the fire and is followed around in the market. However some people settle for a limited designs i.e. they don’t get attracted too often by these trends and stay in their selected apparel zone for long time.

Social media plays a significant role in business, so do in fashion. Fashion influencers around the globe get a large following which doesn’t need any explanation as to how updated people prefer to be. Gender, age or region doesn’t mark the boundaries for such people. It is all in the mind. Whoever has a passion or determination gets what they aspire and this is how the fashion industry also works. It is more about present and even more about the future forecasts. The upcoming trends are the ones created in the present moment and accepted wide across.

Critical appreciation of the movie ‘Parasite’

The parasite is a film that is inevitably mind-blowingly awesome, which would leave even the most verbose enthusiast speechless!.

The movie was celebrated all over the world for its nuanced take on social inequality and making its way to Oscar’s history as the first foreign language winner of best picture. But Bong Joon Ho’s ( director ) scathing critique of modern society goes way beyond its riveting plot points.

Plot and title

Parasite centers around the abjectly poor but cunning Kim family who dream of escaping their filthy semi-basement they scam their way into the lives of the very wealthy park family innovating methods to find work as a tutor, chauffeur, art therapist, and housekeeper for most parts things went smoothly until they found out they’re not the only one beguiling the family, the former housekeeper husband has been staying in the house hidden bunker for year’s to hide from debt collectors.

Tensions between the two working-class families mount and everything descents down at a very bloody birthday party leaving several deaths, after stabbing Mr park, Mr. Kim retreats into the same bunker to hide avoiding the foreseeable future, meanwhile the Kim son fantasies about buying the house and freeing his dad.

Title

The title parasite represents the way these four members of the lower class leach off the good nature and generosity of the Park family, but what is Bong trying to tell us in the aftermath is that the parks are also leaching off the lowers classes by living comfortably on the backs of their labor thus questioning the audience In late-capitalist society who are the parasites? the poor are surviving off the rich while the rich are living off the poor the middle class are busy making resumes

Cinematography and symbolic references

The film owes much of its success around the world to its reliance on cinematic language rather than the spoken language we examine two families on opposite sides of the economic spectrum and every cinematic tool has been used to contrast between the two.

The first shot of the film shows Kims semi-basement window with a glimpse of natural sunlight pouring through and the camera moves downward compare to that we see the park’s home, the camera is moving upwards to the modern home architecture into the full view of the sun we see that Bong ( director)  has used the balance of light and darkness, natural and urban environment to signify their economic status

Most parts of the movies showed Kim’s family infiltration process following the same visual pattern upward towards light finding their host and again moving downwards into darkness until the revealing of the bunker where we descend to the lowest point with no sunlight and no hope it’s more of a prison than a home, but at least better than being dead.

The Kim’s got a taste of paradise to live among the rich before the rain flushed them right back down the parks are sanctioned from everything, not necessarily antagonists but rather they are disconnected from everyday life failing to see the harsh reality of the economically weaker section of the society.

Everything in the movie from clothing, hairstyle to the sad empty fridge, is used to indicate their stature as a family in the lower class, even their smell gives them the way but something never changes and that the dream that once lifted you can come back to haunt you.

In Time(2011): Explained

It has always been said that time is money, what if this was taken literally. The movie is set in a world where Time is literally the universal currency, time is transfer either directly or stored in time capsules. Whenever a persons timer reaches zero they instantly die, this is known as timing out. In this world several time zones exist that divide the people depending on the time they have. People are genetically modified to stop aging at 25 after which their clocks start ticking down, they are given a year before the countdown runs out to zero.

The movie focuses around Will Salas a 28 year old factory worker who lives in one of the poorest time zones, Dayton is a manufacturing ghetto where people rarely have more than a day on their clocks. Will works in a manufacturing plant and lives with his 50 year mother Rachel. One night while returning from his shift Will saves a drunk man pursued by a time stealing group of bandits known as the mintuemen. The drunk man introduces himself as Henry Hamilton a 105 year old man, he tells Will that the people in New Greenwich an elite Time zone are hoarding time. Hamilton gives all of his time to an asleep Will and times out by falling off a bridge.

Raymond Leon the leader of unit of time keepers assumes that Will killed Hamilton and robbed him off his time. Will visits his friend Borel who advices him to get out of Dayton, Will gives Borel 10 years of time. Will decides to leave to New Greenwich along with his mother, his mother however dies having exhausted her time paying off a loan. Rachel timed out as she didn’t have enough to pay for a bus ride whose prices were increased suddenly. Will vows to get revenge for his mothers death by getting back at the people of New Greenwich who control the world.

Will arrives in Greenwich and starts living a better life, he meets Phillipe Wise and his daughter Sylvia Wise at a casino. Will gambles his time and plays poker, he wins over a millennium from the game. Sylvia invites Will to a party, Will and Sylvia get pretty close before Raymon arrives to arrest Will. Raymond doesn’t let Will prove his innocence and simply confiscates all but 2 hours from Will, Will escapes to Dayton taking Sylvia as hostage.

Upon reaching Dayton, the duo is ambushed by the minutemen. The gang leaves the duo with 30 minutes each, Will attempts to get back some time from Borel but learns that Borel drank himself to death. They eventually manage to get a day each by pawning off Sylvia’s earrings. Will calls Weis to demand a 1000 tear ransom to be paid into the time mission for the desperate, an initiative for the poor. Weis refuses but Will releases Sylvia anyway, Raymond attempts to capture Will but Sylvia saves him.

Sylvia understanding the reality of the world decides to work together with Will to rob time banks and distribute time to the needy. They soon realise that they cant make any significant change as the New Greenwich residents just increase prices to compensate for the stolen time. The duo is again ambushed by the minutemen, Will defeats Fortis the leader and kills the rest of the thugs. The duo decides to rob Weis vault and distribute the time, Raymond chases the duo back to Dayton but times out as he forgets to download his day’s salary. The duo nearly times out themselves but them manage to save themselves by downloading Raymond’s salary. The duo continues robbing larger banks in an attempt to crash the system.

The movie brings an old saying to life, a really unique concept with an amazing execution. I’ll recommend the movie to every fan of science fiction, this movie also sheds some light on the hoarding problem of the rich. This problem is apparent in the real world too where the rich keep getting richer while the poor suffer. The movie has an excellent cast with Justin Timberlake as Will Salas, Amanda Seyfried as Sylvia Weis, and Cillian Murphy as timekeeper Raymond Leon.
