Bollywood and Fashion

Bollywood and fashion go hand in hand. Come to think of it, they both have massively influenced each other. Fashion has always given the characters of Bollywood a distinguished definition, and Bollywood has inspired many fashion trends; be it wedding attires or casual outfits and has been doing so since forever. The audiences have looked up to actors for fashion and personal inspirations. While certain fashion trends are evergreen, the other tends to repeat itself every 10 years, which is why Anarkalis are still an ongoing trend. The trendsetters often visit the past to revive the old idea with a little modern twist.

Bollywood has been influencing fashion since its early days. While the 50s was about the dapper suits and sarees with pearl necklaces, the 60s was about vibrant colors, winked eyeliners and fringes.

1. Mughal-E-Azam:

One of the most iconic movies of all times gave us one of the most iconic trends which seem is here to stay. Mughal-E-Azam, the epic Indian historical love story between the price and court dancer gave the fashion industry the most iconic ethnic wear. Anarkali (Madhubala), the talented dancer, wore the outfit in the song Jab Pyaar Kiya toh Darna Kya justifying the name of the outfit after the character.

2. Waqt:

Sadhana’s hugging Churidar in the movie got popular amongst the young generation and is praised till date. Ladies enjoy wearing the evergreen Churidar of all the colors flaunting their body curves, and why not?

3. Brahmachari:

The one and only Mumtaz inspire the great retro look that we create for parties. In her song Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke, she transformed the way of wrapping saree and creating her fashion. The song and the saree were sensational and unstoppable.

4. Hare Rama Hare Krishna:

Zeenat Aman is known in Bollywood for her boldness. So there would have been no better than her to introduce the hippie culture and bell bottom pants to the industry. Hare Rama Hare Krishna, directed and starring Dev Anand, is a story about brother-sister duo and a tale of a modern family. Zeenat Aman’s character Jasbir is grown by in Montreal, hence bringing the western look in Indian cinema and breaking the stereotype.

5. Bobby:

Polka Dots are one of those evergreen trends that can be pulled off at every occasion. However, it would be difficult to pin down, how polka dots came into the limelight. It was through Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor’s Bobby, a modern-day Romeo Juliet with a twist and a different ending. Unlike the 60s, the 70s was more about crop tops and miniskirts, and we have Dimple Kapadia to thank for that. Her polka dots top and skirt were trendy then and are trendy now!

6. Shaan:

Parveen Babi brought glitter to fashion with her stunning outfit in Pyaar Karne wale from Shaan. In the title track, she wore shimmer gown, which immediately became the light of every party.

7. Chandni:

Sridevi and her exemplary style in Chandni won hearts all over the country. It was her who brought in the love for chiffon sarees and continued the same in Mr. India as well. Chandni was an epic love story of sacrifice which resonated with masses as did Sridevi’s style. After the movie, the demand for chiffon sarees was at the peak and seen around a lot.

8. Maine Pyaar Kiya:

The brought back the polka dots as Bhagyashree wore it as a skirt. The famous “Friends” cap and the leather jacket worn by Salman Khan got accessible from the movie.

9. Hum Aapke Hai Kaun:

The very stylish Madhuri Dixit wore the backless blouse in the film with a saree. Alongside her, starring Salman Khan, who not only did wore the suspenders differently but the three-piece suit caught everyone’s attention as well. The pair set a revolution in motion in terms of fashion and dance.

10. Rangeela:

The 90s college girls were solely inspired by Urmila’s fashion in Rangeela. Her Denim shirts with skirts or colorful pants created a sporty look for the girls to be comfortable in. Rangeela had an impact on the crowd, storywise as well as fashion-wise. The fashion trend set by the movie was hard to beat.

11. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:

Jumpsuits, Bob cuts, body tight polo t-shirts, and colorful friendship bands are to name a few trends that were seen being adopted by masses after the movie. KKHH was a sensational movie that connected with the audience so much that the country replicated every fashion possible from the film.

12. Mohabbatein:

The dynamic duo of very talented Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were paired in the movie. SRK, the trendsetter who is a professor in the film, has a nerdy look. The high-neck polo sweaters over the shirts with specks made the girls go gaga! While beautiful Aishwarya brought back the chiffon sarees in pastel colors. A pastel version of Chandni, perhaps?

13. Dil Chahta Hai:

Dil Chahta Hai did not only highlight the Goa trip we all want to go on with our friends, but also made Leather pants a hype. The movie inspired the crazy party clothing for the clubs in early 2000. It was all about the urban chic fashion and contemporary art, which was the highlight of the 2000s.

14. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham:

Pooh’s backless or Pooja’s Sharara, take a pick! K3G, was a classic family drama movie with so many fashion tips. The traditional heavy Sarees or the Band Gala suit worn by Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in the movie caught everyone’s eyes. We all know, magic happens when Manish and Karan work together.

15. Bunty Aur Babli:

Do a collared kurta, Patiala and a jhola ring a bell? Well, it should! Rani Mukherjee, in her mischievous love story with Abhishek Bachchan, wore the attire only so every single girl could adopt it. Her non-dupatta look got famous real quick real soon.

16. Parineeta:

Vidya Balan’s very first movie was one of the classiest trendsetters. Based on the novel written in 1914, Parineeta had picked up a few fashion trends from the era and created a beautiful fusion with modern fashion. Sticking to the authenticity, Balan wore full-selves blouses and suits which were later adopted by the ladies keeping it simple and beautiful.

17. Jab We Met (2007): T-shirts with Patiala salwar pants:

This was not long ago when Kareena’s dialogues got famous as well as her Patiala Salwar pants with Tshirts. The casual attire got so prominent that every college girl was seen wearing one. Moreover, Kareena’s outfit in the song, Nagada was another traditional hit. She was the first to wear, a suit-salwar with no matching color combinations, which was a fashion statement of its own.

18. Dostana:

Karan Johar’s magic is visible in the movie even though he just produced the movie. Dostana, the romantic comedy movie was way ahead of its time and trying to break the stereotypes. The film was excellent in terms of fashion. Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s no jewelry look was iconic and hard not to follow, but more than that, the song ‘Desi Girl’ got the low-waist golden saree the appreciation it deserved. One of the highlights of the 2000s fashion.

19. Wake up Sid:

Laidback lazy Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Sid was probably the most relatable character for any college going student. His fashion resonated with the audience so much that everyone made an extra effort to look for perfect graphic t-shirts to wear to college.

20. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani:

One of the best onscreen pair is undoubtedly Ranbir and Deepika. In the movie, they followed different styles, given the film leaps forward a few years. In the first half of the movie yeh jawaani hai deewani, Ranbir’s Leather Jacket caught everyone’s attention. And during the second half, Deepika’s dark blue chiffon Saree became a party trend.

Indian Colourism: Origins and its residual effects

While some people might not be familiar with the concept or term colourism, rest assured for everyone has indulged in it. The oxford dictionary defines colourism as “prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.” Perpetuated by both the oppressed and the oppressor alike, it is deeply entrenched in the average person’s psyche. Discussions of such topics are often littered with defensive stances and refusal to believe in one’s own fallacy. People tend to gloss over the microaggressions they partake in every day unbeknownst to themselves.

If we try to look at the roots of the issue and where its origins lie, if there are any, one will find being ruled by fairer-skinned Aryans, Mughals, and Europeans a recurring theme. However, was there no discrimination on the basis of skin in ancient India? The ancient texts portrayed dark-complexioned princes and princesses, gods and heroes in the same light as their fairer counterparts. They were allowed to be heroic and dark and beautiful not in spite of their skin tone but because of it. Lord Krishna’s—whose name means black itself—statues could be dark while Radha’s were made from marble. Times seem to have changed with idols carved in lighter stones selling exponentially more. India’s fanatic obsession hasn’t exempted even gods.

The Britishers moulded the pliable atmosphere after the end of the Mughal rule to their benefit. They were modernized and scientific here to save the uncivilized natives from our erroneous ways. They were symbols of power, class, and status. Who wouldn’t want to be like them? If dogs and Indians were not allowed inside exclusive clubs, who wouldn’t want to shed a part of them for a better life? Thus, colourism unfurled its tendrils. If you weren’t white, be the next best thing. Being white adjacent would land you better opportunities. With the English came the Eurocentric beauty standards. Other places have loosened these to let in talents from diversified backgrounds, but India is still stuck with the remnants of British rule.

Manufacturers seized the perfect opportunity by preying on the insecurities of the general public who desperately longed for upward mobility to escape from their circumstances. In 2019, the Indian skin lightening industry was reportedly worth nearly Rs 3000 crore. Bollywood jumped on the bandwagon and ingrained in all our minds that only fair can be attributed to lovely. With whitewashing actors in commercials and casting only fair actresses as love interests, the message was clear: there is no space for dark-skinned actors to be leads in a country of dark-skinned people.

We have internalized the messaging and bigoted ideals. So much to find fair attached to qualities in every matrimonial. To use skin bleaching and lightening products even after knowing their harmful effects. We have attached our self-worth and ability to be seen as desirable and worthy of respect and love to the shade of our skin. We have broken the hearts of millions of innocent kids who would grow to doubt themselves because what they see in the mirror will always resemble the dirt beneath their feet more than it ever does their favourite actor. Change is long overdue.

Bollywood Movies That Should Be Watched

The Bollywood industry is not sensitive towards the LGBTQ+ community, colourism, casteism, classism, rape culture, harassment, sexism, mental health problems, et cetera. This significantly affects the quality of the productions in Bollywood, be it movies or songs. This defeats the purpose of overcoming these problems in our country by popularising them further among the youth. We tend to imitate our ideals, thus, when we see our favourite actor or actress performing something problematic, either we accept it or dismiss it. Thus, we need to avoid these movies and promote the ones that are actually good. Some of the movies produced by the Bollywood cinema which must be watched are in stark contrast with each other, however, they have an important place in the industry. They are:

-Article 15

Caste hierarchy existed in India for a long time, thus, our Constitution makers presented a draft in the November of 1948 immediately after India achieved independence. Article 15 states that “The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex or any of them” and it aims to eliminate the caste system from the deep roots of our society. This movie raises awareness about the multi-layered casteism that prevails in our country, more frequently observed in the rural areas. Directed and written by Anubhav Sinha, it primarily focuses on the Indian caste system and along with it corruption, rape, politics, and many more social issues and how an IPS, born and brought up in a city away from these issues, fights for justice.

-Kapoor & Sons

A complete genre than Article 15 but equally emotionally exhausting, Kapoor & Sons portrays problems that are faced by a family. It shows how every family member plays a significant role in the family. Eventually, roles get defined for every member such as the funny one, the fighter, the rational one, et cetera. In this movie, we see the Kapoor family coming together after overcoming the issues that they had with each other. This movie takes us on an emotional roller coaster, from laughing with the grandfather (Amarjeet, played by Rishi Kapoor) to crying when many family problems come to light.

Some other movies include Pad Man which is about a husband who works towards making affordable sanitary pads after his marriage when he realises his wife’s struggle of using cloth during her menstruation. He further works for providing women with the pads that he made and raises awareness about periods.

Bulbbul is another movie which focuses on child marriage, domestic violence, rape, and sexism. In this movie, Bulbbul, the protagonist, suffers in her marriage and dedicates herself towards stopping crime against women in her village. It is a movie which will leave you shocked about the harsh reality of India.

Other movies that you can add to your list are Pink, Barfi, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Peepli Live, and many more. There are some movies that should not be watched as well, such as Kabir Singh, a movie which was widely questioned but managed to be a blockbuster.

Bollywood Songs That Shouldn’t Be Played Anymore

Songs have a lasting impact on our mind and leave us humming the same tune for weeks. However, we often don’t pay attention to the lyrics and its meaning. Most of the Bollywood songs are racist, sexist, promote rape culture, and dismiss consent as being essential. Covering the lyrics with peppy beats and catchy lines, Bollywood songs never fail to objectify women. People tend to focus on the extravagant choreography, the glamorous clothes and the actors rather than judging the quality of the song’s lyrics. It is a dire need to raise our voices against such songs especially at this time when songs are easily available and can be streamed anytime and anywhere. Censorship needs to be more strict with respect to such lyrics as Bollywood songs reach about 17% of the world’s population and influence young as well as mature minds.

Some of the songs that need to be removed from streaming platforms are-

• Jumma Chumma Dede

A super-hit song from a well-recognised movie, Hum, is rather an example of harassment but everyone sings this song without acknowledging its problematic concept. We should take a second to analyse its lyrics-

Are tu boli thi pichhle jumme ko

Chumma dungi agle jumme ko

Aaj jumma hai to aaja aaja

Aaja aaja aaja aaja”

These lines harass a woman by constantly asking her to give a kiss which she had promised last week. The repetition of the word ‘aaja’ which means come, is abusive.

• Samundar Mei Nahake

One of the most hit among the old songs, Samundar Mei Nahake is seen as a classic composed by R. D. Burman in the movie Pukar. This song shows women objectification by attributing salty as a quality to the female actress in the song. Here are its lyrics-

“Samundar mei naha ke

Tuma ur bhi namkeen ho gayi ho”

Constantly listening or singing along with these songs somehow reinforce these values. We need to unlearn these concepts we have integrated into our minds and it is such songs and movies of Bollywood which have popularised them.

• Gandi Baat

This song of R.Rajkumar promotes rape culture, disregard consent from women, normalise sexual and emotional harassment. Its lyrics are self-explanatory- Achhi batein karli bohot ab karunga tere saath gandi baat (which is a direct rape threat). Another line of this song is “Mooh se kya kya kya, Bol na na na, Mann to mann mann mann ho gaya” which is based on assuming that the woman is also in agreement without taking any kind of consent.

• Yaad Piya ki Aane Lagi

The romanticisation of problematic behaviour is very frequently represented in Bollywood. One such song is Yaad Piya ki Aane Lagi, even though it is one of the recent songs it still portrays values which should’ve been left behind. It shows the backwardness of our cinema industry.

The lyrics of this song is – Hum dheere dheere dheere paagal ho rahe hai

Main to mar jaana haye wo na jo milne aaye

Main to mar jaana haye wo na jo milne aaye

Saansein meri hai unke hathon mein

In this, words like ‘paagal’ are ableist and should not be used. This song shows unhealthy dependability on your partner.

These songs need to be eliminated from our industry as they are negatively influencing the youth along with the rest of the audience.

The Celebrity Crushes We All Had

Everyone has had that one celebrity who makes their heart beat faster and whose photo can instantly bring a smile to your face. Even when we leave our teenage years behind, we keep up with these celebrities and cherish them in our hearts. For my father, it is Madhubala and my mom’s most recent celebrity crush is surely Chris Evans.

While talking to my friends, I realised that our celebrity crushes were not that different. The origin of my friendship with half of my closest friends was due to our mutual love for One Direction, we jammed to their songs, bought their merchandise and cried together when they broke up. And this experience gave me some friends I’ll have for my entire life. Thus, celebrity crushes are important.

There are some celebrities who were loved by all those born between 1999 and 2003. The ones who top the list are:

• Shah Rukh Khan

Nobody can win a heart as fast as Shah Rukh Khan. He is the King of Bollywood and one of the most charismatic actors of all time. From his success story to all the roles he has played, he is the absolute favourite of one and all. Growing up watching Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghum, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein, Kal Ho Na Ho and so many more iconic movies taught us all some life lessons and had us drooling over SRK.

• Zayn Malik

Zayn Malik started his career as a member of one of the most famous boybands, One Direction (1D). As part-Asian, he has a major fan-following from India and was the hearth-rob of all teenagers a few years ago. Apart from being a great singer, he is sweeter than strawberries with his fans who are extremely loyal to him. Even when he left One Direction, his fans didn’t leave him.

• Robert Pattinson

Reading and watching the Twilight series, written by Stephanie Mayor, was one of my favourite past times. The primary reason why I sat through all 4 movies was Robert Pattinson, playing the role of Edward Cullen and the secondary was Taylor Lautner. Losing myself in the fantasy land of vampires and werewolves was how I spent my breaks in school and at home.

• Zac Efron

The most famous teenage movie, High School Musical was watched by basically every school-goer in the late 2000s. That’s where our journey of love for Zac Efron began. The sequels of High School Musical were loved by all. All of us have supported and admired him from his first movie to the most recent ones, like Baywatch and The Greatest Showman. We have a special connection with him because it felt like we grew up with him.

• Hrithik Roshan

His dance moves and amazing chemistry with all his co-stars always leave us wanting more. The diversity of the roles he has played in the past 20 years is astonishing. Watching his movies, from Koi Mil Gaya and Dhoom2 to Jodhaa Akbar, in theatres and then gushing all about them with our friends brightened our childhoods.

Every year, if not every month, we find a new celebrity and fall head over heels for them. But the most impactful are the ones we love in our teenage life. Let’s revisit these memories and cherish them for life.

“Bulbul” movie review

I saw this Hindi movie recently and I would like to give my opinion on it. “Bulbbul” was recently released on Netflix on 24 June, 2020 by the production company ‘Clean Slate Films’. A supernatural horror produced by Anushka Sharma and directed by Anvita Dutt Guptan. It is roughly based on Rabindranath Tagore’s “The Broken Nest” which is based on his own life incidents.

The movie is set in 18th or 19th century Bengal. It doesn’t have many characters. Our main characters are Bulbbul, a child who is barely five years old when she gets married to Indranil, also known as ‘Bado thakur’. Indranil has two brothers namely Mahendra, his mentally challenged identical twin and Satya, the youngest close to Bulbbul’s age which is the reason why they become close friends which becomes a matter of concern for her husband. Bulbbul grows up to be an enigmatic woman. We see how men in her village are brutally being killed by some witch or chudail.

Basically the film takes us on a journey of Bulbbul’s growth from an innocent child bride to a strong woman who runs her own household.
The character of Bulbbul is played by Tripti Dimri. In my opinion, I don’t think anyone could have done a better job playing the role. Though not from a Bengali background she does a pretty great job in giving us those typical Bengali vibes. Rahul Bose as Indranil (as well as Mahendra) does a pretty great job too. Handling two very different roles at the same time is not easy but he did it. Avinash Tiwary acts as Satya; another great work. Paoli Dam as Mahendra’s wife, Binodini. Parambrata Chatterjee as Sudip, the village doctor. I feel the cast was great. Each one of them did a wonderful work and I cannot imagine anyone else replacing them.
The music is exceptionally good, gives you goose bumps every time you listen to it not because it scares you but it feels like there’s a story behind everything screaming to be heard. Hats off to Amit Trivedi. It gives a special essence to the movie. Another thing I loved was the cinematography. Scenes where the witch or the chudail was to be, the screen would turn red telling us to hold on to our seats for something is about to happen. It has a feminist theme. It shows how women change themselves due to past abuse. Paoli Dam’s character had this dialogue “Badi havelion me bade raaz hote hai” translates to “big havelis have big secrets”. This explains a lot about the chudail. One would understand when they see the movie.
Lesson I learnt was innocence is a pure thing taking that away from someone is sinful.
The movie is family friendly except a couple of scenes but I think it’s high time little girls need to be made aware what the real world holds.
It has a 4.3/5 audience rating. I would totally give it a 4.5/5 just because there is this one thing that it becomes predictable midway. Apart from that it is a masterpiece and a change from regular Indian thriller.

Thank you for reading. Have a nice day!

Why bollywood is destroying itself by Remix.

“Ye khaan aagye hmm, yunhi saath saath chlte” that’s exactly what we feel when we listen today’s songs. If this is what we say evolving is, then Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!..

Hello everyone, This blog is dedicated in favour of retro songs and also stand firm for there justice. We have to come together, we have to, otherwise these new released songs will just destroy everyone’s taste and make them move towards English songs. We can’t let them do that.okay!
See, I’m not against of english songs but I just don’t want anyone to go for it just because bollywood doesn’t have some.

Those famous lyricist like Javed Akhtar ji,  Sameer, Gulzaar sahab.. all have performed greatly in the industry and also given us many evergreen masterpiece. But, you know it was never only the lyrics that made the song popular but the singers too like, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Lata mangeshkar. They use to sing a particular song for 25 to 30 times, to present it in a fabulous way to you all. There was nothing like auto tuner in those days, just try to imagine how hard it was and so the hard works payed. They got fame for there work. And now a days, these so cold rappers using those cheap words and not only using it but repeating it many times in a single sentence, actually there whole sentence is repeated in a song which makes it awful are getting fame just like that. Who’s fault is this??

It’s not like they all are bad but those rappers are good only if they go for there separate albums. So, we can’t blame this whole on them,ok! Like they are bad but it’s us who are encouraging them to do this. And after that we just hit the dislike button but that particular songs legacy is already been destroyed. We can’t let them do that, we can’t. We need some good Songs. There are few non rappers who are literally good like Gajendra verma, Darshan Raval and Arjun Kanungo, Deno james etc.

Some of you must be fan of NEHA KAKKAR and his brother Tony Kakkar. So, let me just clear you that being in trend doesn’t make something look good. Ok! Otherwise, Go for Binod.

So, we have stand firm for our choice. If we hate listening those remix then don’t just dislike it but make them realize that we are not going to accept anything like this. And also because, Old is Gold.

Let’s make a pact among us and make them Learn ” Don’t destroy our beloved Songs”. There’s many things I want to say but I think I made my point clear till now.

So, drop down your views on this blog and also on this topic. And also tell us your way to Stop them in destroying our favourite Bollywood songs.

See yaa.

Nepotism in Bollywood

Nowday, Nepotism is in the ears of every person. It is basically giving favoritism to their own relatives in various fields like business, politics, entertainment, sports, religion and many other activities.

In bollywood, after sushant Rajput death nepotism has become a hot topic for debate. Recently, bollywood actress Kanga Ranaut appeared on a channel where she spoke about the culture of nepotism prevailing from earlier time that resulted into Sushant Rajput’s death. She mentions that in this industry there must be godfather behind every actor otherwise their survival is difficult. After Sushant Singh shocking suicide nepotism is highlighted in bollywood. Famous director Karan Johar was called the flag bearer of nepotism on his famous talk show ‘koffee with Karan’ by actress Kanga Ranaut. Many celebs in this industry feel that it’s unfair on the outsiders who are genuinely talented and more deserving. But due to nepotism they left behind. It is very difficult for outsiders to work in bollywood but there are also some success stories like Kanga Renaut, Katrina Kaif, and Sonu Sood who have made it their own. Star kids are getting better launch pads but that can’t stop outsiders from creating their base in the industry.

But when we talk about nepotism it is in each and every profession. For example. A lawyer’s son will have easy access to being a lawyer by virtue of growing in that environment. By the same logic, even an actor kid will have that advantage. Not that star kids are not talented but they get opportunities far easier, projects far bigger and high budget for their films. Nepotism is never ending topic in bollywood that is over discussed concept

Battling COVID with stardom

Millions across the world, rich and poor, younger and older, does not matter where, we are always facing the lurking danger of coronavirus infection. It is causing a tumultuous effect on the day to day lives of people, with increasing healthcare costs, decreasing accessibility to the proper healthcare facilities, rising prices of commodities and the ever increasing number of deaths every day. Poverty has hit its record in India and with time, there is a rising inequality in the provision of treatment, thus leading to preferential treatment.

But what is most astonishing is the fact that this diseases which was, at first, more common among the higher ranks of the society is spurring troubles among the lower ranks. Over the past few weeks, I could see a stark difference in the mode of treatment among the various ranks of the society. Consider the low wage or daily wage and the migrant workers. On the event of such a pandemic, they lost their sole earning potential, had to be transported back to their roots in ways that was unimaginable and even back at their home, poverty has reached the zenith of their lives. They basically had to pay their own fairs, which was multiple of the usual fares and they have to arrange for their own sanitation kit at the time, when they could not even afford the basic kit required for their survival. They are facing great uncertainties in their lives owing to stoppage of income, lost employment opportunities, educational hurdles of their children and many more. There were instances when the migrants tried to return to their homes walking on foot from the working locations and then losing their lives. It is very heart wrenching to see that how the lower sections of the society have to wait for uncountable hours just to get the basic treatment in the hospitals, and most of the times they succumb to their lives. Even for medical reasons other than COVID, they are being kept in isolation and the doctors do not even care to provide the basic treatment necessary to keep that patient alive. Such is the pathetic condition, not just for them but for all the common public.

And I am simply amazed to see how our own Bollywood is treating the entire pandemic. It seems like it’s a kind of spring break for them where they have been asked to do whatever they can. Many such pompous and self-centred Bollywood actors resorted to making videos such as washing the dishes when the bai is unable to come or when they are cooking some dish, which apparently we do it almost every day and then there are others who make their son playing an instrument while she teaches him how to do classical dance. And the worst part of it all is that, they all chant the same thing as to stay inside, wear mask, frequent sanitisation and doing things at home to keep mental stress at bay, but what they are forgetting is that they might have the opportunity to stay away at Disneyland, but others have to go out of their safe haven and do something to survive. Recently, a top notch Bollywood actor was tested positive for COVID and he and some of his ‘beloved’ family members had to be admitted to the hospital. He was tested on a regular basis for COVID and his family was getting the best medical care possible. The most surprising element of this news is that, first, it was broadcasted as a breaking news almost on all the national news channels and second, all the people were desperately praying for him and his family. Such is the disparity.

My only concern is in the fact that where is the praying when it comes to the ordinary people? People who are actually working for us, where are we when we need them? Why such disparity, even when the soul is not labelled?

Alas, our society still thinks actors are ‘heroes’.

Abetment of Suicide

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death have brought a storm in hindi film industry. Rajput was found hanging inside his house on june 14th. Mumbai Police is investigating the matter, has termed his death a suicide. The post-mortem report of the actor had also mentioned the cause of the death as “asphyxia due to hanging”. But his fans are calling ‘nepotism’, ‘favoritism’ and false campaign of maligning his image, is the cause of his death. Fans of the late actor have launched a social media campaign and demanding for CBI inquiry.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police is trying to find out the reasons of his suicide. Police is also investigating the angle of abetment of suicide into the matter. Total 37 people including the actor’s family members, close friends, and industry counterparts have already been questioned. The first findings suggest that Sushant was taking psychiatrist help for the last one year.

What law says?
Section 306 of Indian Penal Code 1860, describes, abetment of suicide. It says that, if any person commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such suicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The offence of abetment shall conform to the definition of ‘abetment’ under Section 107 of IPC i.e. there must be instigation, or engaging in conspiracy or assistance in the commission of offence.

Earlier this year, Bombay High Court hearing a matter of offence punishable under Sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and Section 306 IPC, remarked that,
“.. It is to be kept in mind that it is easy to accuse somebody of ill-treatment after someone dies, but it will not be wise to convict somebody based on such general statements.”
Gurcharan Singh vs. State of Punjab– In this case, the Supreme Court observed that the basic ingredients of Section 306 of IPC are suicidal death and the abetment thereof. To constitute abetment, the intention and involvement of the accused to aid or instigate the commission of suicide is imperative. Any severance or absence of any of these constituents would militate against this indictment.
In the case of Randhir Singh vs. State of Punjab, The Apex Court enunciated on the pith and purport of Section 306 IPC and opined:
‘Abetment involves a mental process of instigating a person or intentionally aiding that person in doing of a thing.’
‘More active role which can be described as instigating or aiding the doing of a thing is required before a person can be said to be abetting the commission of offence under Section 306 of IPC.’

Instigation
Supreme Court of India elaborated the term ‘instigation’ in the case of Ramesh kumar v state of Chhattisgarh. The court stated that, ‘Instigation is to goad, urge forward, to provoke, incite or encourage to do an act.’

Conclusion
In order to prove abetment, it must be shown that the accused kept on inciting or annoying the deceased by words, taunts or wilful omission or conduct which may even be wilful silence until the deceased reacted.
Secondly, the accused’s intention should be present there. Because mens rea is the necessary concomitant of instigation.

Musical nostalgia

Vaishali Singh (Cheenu Singh Rathore)

And sometimes in life the music playing in the background brings you back to the most beautiful days of your life, music is also known to bring the nostalgia,  Some musical notes makes you feel a bit different, the closing credit (background music) of “Gortimer Gibbons Life On Normal Street” (a web series casts on Prime Amazon) is an example of such a of music, I’m in love with it, though this web series casted 12 or 13 years old children, but somehow I got so much connected to that series that it became my favourite series, at the end of the each episode they share a moral, and somewhere in this fast-paced world, we are losing our morals values and ethics, the show has casted the light on all aspects of life, it showed 3 friends, who are just young kids, but handles all the tough situations of life, the show has also showed the process of growing up and a tons of life lessons, I am very bad at watching web series and movies as well I don’t watch movies so often and when it comes to web series I never watch them, but somehow amidst this outbreak I got to see a web series called “Just Add Magic”, it was all about magic spell and cook book, it was the first web series which made me feel to watch the next episode and I completed this series within a very less amount of time, this web series awaked my interest in this magical illusion so I googled “web series like JUST ADD MAGIC” and just got this name “GORTIMER GIBBONS LIFE ON NORMAL STREET” on the top of the result so when I started watching it I liked it lesser than the first one but overtime this particular series somehow made me so attached to it, and especially the music which plays at the end of each episode.             I’ve learnt a lot from this show, although I haven’t watched it all episodes yet but this song has gave me a lifetime memory.
