The BooK Thief

The book thief is a historical fiction novel written by Australian author Markus Zusak . It was published on 2005 and soon after became an international bestseller

It is one the most heartbreaking story I have ever read. Markus Zusak has dine amazing job of presenting the sorrows of Germans especially Jews during the Nazi rule. The story follows a young girl Liesal Meminger , who is a thief . Well , don’t get me wrong, she is a book thief. Well this nothing , the story is unique in its own way because the story is told by the death itself . “When death has a story to tell , you listen”.

This book is a whole journey of laughter , love, pain , sorrow and friendship.

Horticulture

Horticulture, the branch of plant agriculture dealing with garden crops, generally fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. The Horticulture falls between domestic gardening and field agriculture, through all forms of cultivation naturally have close links.

It is divided into the cultivation of plants for food and plants for ornament. Pomology deals with fruit and nut crops. Oliericuture deals with herbaceous plants for the kitchen, including, for example carrots, cauliflower. Floriculture deals with the production of flowers and ornamental plants; generally, cut flowers, pot plants, and greenery. Landscape Horticulture is a broad category that includes plants for the landscape, including lawn turf but particularly nursery crops such as shrubs, trees, and vines.
The specialisation of the horticulture and the success of the crop are influenced by many factors. Among these are climate, terrain, and other regional variations.

HORTICULTURAL REGIONS :

TEMPERATURE ZONES :

Temperature zones for horticulture cannot be defined exactly by lines of latitude or longitude but are usually regarded as including those areas where frost in winter occurs, even though rarely. Thus, most parts of Europe, North America and Northern Asia
are included, though some parts of the United States, such as southern Florida, are considered subtropical.
The temperature zones are also the areas of the grasses – the finest lawns particularly are in the regions of moderate or high rainfall- and of the great cereal crops. Rice is excluded as being tropical, but wheat, barley, corn and Rye grow well in the temperature zones.
Plants in the temperature zones benefit from a winter resting season, which clearly differentiates them from tropical plants which tend to grow continuously. Most of the great gardens of the world have been developed in temperature zones. Particular features such as rose gardens, herbaceous borders, annual borders, woodland gardens, and rock gardens are also those of temperature zone gardens. Nearly all depends for their success on the winter resting period.

TROPICAL ZONES :

There is no sharp line of demarcation between the topics and the subtropics. Just as many tropical plants can be cultivated in the subtropics, so also many subtropical and even temperature plants can be grown satisfactorily in the tropics. Elevation is a determining factor. In addition to Elevation, another determinant is the annual distribution of rainfall. Plants that grow and flower in the monsoon areas, as in India, will not succeed where the climate is uniformly wet. Another factor is the length of day, the number of hours the sun is above the horizon;some plants flower only if the day is long, but others make their growth during the long days and flower when the day is short.
In the tropics of Asia and parts of central and south America, the dominant features of the gardens are flowering trees, shrubs, and climbers. Herbaceous plants are relatively few, but many kinds of orchids can be grown.

PROPAGATION :

propagation is the controlled perpetuation of plants,is the most basic of Horticulture practices . It’s two objectives are to achieve an increase in numbers and to preserve the essential characteristics of the plant. Propagation can be achieved sexually by seed or asexually by utilising specialised vegetative structures of the plant or by employing such techniques are cutting, layering, grafting and tissue culture

SEED PROPAGATION :

The most common method of propagation for self- pollinated plants is by seed. In self-pollinated plants, the sperm nuclei in pollen produced by a flower fertilize egg cells of a flower on the same plant. Propagation by seed is also used widely for many cross- pollinated plants pollen is carried from one plant to another.
The practice of saving seed to plant the following year has developed into a specialized part of horticulture. Seed technology involves all of the steps necessary ensure production of seed with high viability, freedom from disease, purity, and trueness to type. These processes may include specialized growing and harvesting techniques, cleaning, and distribution. Germination in such seed may be accomplished by treatment to remove these inhibitors. This may involve cold stratification, storing seed at high relative humidity and low temperatures, usually slightly above freezing. Cold stratification is a prerequisite to the uniform germination of many temperature-zone species such as apple, bear, and redbud.

VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION :

Asexual or vegetative reproduction is based on the ability of plants to regenerate tissues and parts. In many plants vegetative propagation is a completely natural process; in others it is an artificial one. It has may advantages. These include the unchanged prepetuation of naturally cross pollimated palnts and the possibility of propagation seedless progeny.
Vegetative propagation is accomplished be use of

  1. Apomictic seed
    1. Specialized vegetatice structres such as runners, bulbs, corms, rhizomes, offshoot, tubers, stems and roots.
  2. Layers and cuttimgs
  3. Grafting and budding
    1. tissue culture.

“American God” by “Neil Gaiman”

“American God’s” by “Neil Gaiman” the way the book has to been written the storyline is absolutely stunning. The protagonist of the book is shadow and just a few days before his release from the present his wife Laura dies in a mysterious car accident and it completely shatters him because he was
going out of prison and meeting his wife and resuming their life together and be happy again because he had already wasted so many years of his life in the present because of a bank robbery that he committed in the past.

She was really helpful and he was really happy to see his wife Laura now while on its way back Shadow comes across come Mr. Wednesday in the airplane and Mr. Wednesdays character you don’t know
anything about in his very enigmatic and he comes across his person who has really interesting stories to tell you this character is absolutely stunning and Shadow is like really not a place where he wants to get into
any kind of conversation with anyone and Mr. Wednesday on the other hand want to talk business with him with absolutely Shadow of any way things happen that actually makes Shadow interested in whatever Mr. Wednesday has to offer and Mr. Wednesday want Shadow to become his
Bodyguard to anyway lot of things happen and find leave Shadow protect.

The post of becoming the shadow protect the post of becoming the Bodyguard of Mr. Wednesday and then they go on this journey to America. Mr. Wednesday enigmatic and he introduces himself as one of the Gods and one of the forward Gods now we know
America is a place where people from the entire world migrate and stay there so they kind of like take their relation to that place and store your going to find different God from different cultures traditions and right in
there may be a few tries to Africa and they got there also introduced in the book to similarly God from our country Indian culture is also introduced in the book and you will find book and you will find that when you read the book and it’s fascinating when you find anything from culture in a book that is written by a foreign writer and needs a man has thus mastery at actually putting everything together and assembling all these things in a way that everything Falls into place and think to feel like believable and the best part about American Gods is that it is extremely real you are in the reality was seeing these.

It perfect and an amazing rate is not let you completely shifting towards his genera
of mythology or anything as such you are in the reality you are reading this characters who are blood in flash and would not like Trichy Gods were not like Gods in a way that they tell you stories and lessons learned that the way these calls are flawed they have their battles to fight and that is the most amazing part of that these gods are not Gods in that way these goals are skill Masters and they preach skills and that and their skills make them the God Mr. Wednesday and Shadow travel across America and explore all these goals and their stories and it is interesting because everything just feels So vivid and illustrative that you are going to visualize Everything And Everything feels So
the believable relationship that Shadow shared with his wife and that was pure love, I mean everything that happened in the book and shadows love for his wife Laura was and parallel it was unprecedented there was nothing that could affect his love for her and I think that was super cute you know this book is all about God Supernatural stuff away Ne man actualize love in such a real manner that melted my heart because it’s very rare when you see that kind of love which is unconditional which doesn’t have any grudges against each other and I think that is amazing and let’s just not even get to Mr. Wednesday’s the character was that character I was in the strict entire time I didn’t have any idea what was happening like who the hell was that person and even
started to be honest so basically, when you’re reading the book you become shadow and all these are the characters are like these mysterious people you don’t understand what is happening but you are there what you are there are you trying to understand and by the end of the book you are like
that was quite a bit of Revelation so I will just be ready to read everything in
this book and will be to by the end of it and obviously will get the answers of all the questions and that the best thing I love about Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and read books for that a trailers and that have a mystery the quotient in them but you know what by the end of the book a lot of things
are not explain in those books and that pisses me off a lot because I am sorry you actually built up so much mystery and you build up so much of trade and then you do not give all the answers to all those questions that will lead role was to the point where we are trying to get find to get around but did Neil Gaiman spoke you will get the answers of every small thing that you never told you if there is a mystery.

That has been built in the initial part of the book you will get the answer to that
part in the end or by the end of the book you will get the answers of everything that the evidence and 2 weirdest most part that Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is that the first Publication like the first time that when the
book was published cause I don’t know how many pages but after that he published a not the addition in which he wrote some of it in approximately12,000 more words like he added that win book I will hold us that lower
does the time in authorized book effects ahead in the head I don’t care but
he actually went ahead Rote 12000 in words and added to the book published it again and like I just wanted to make it more that he wanted to give better answer and its two amazing because he is so freaking
dedicated to his stories it’s not like is doing it for money or he’s doing it for recommendations it’s very clear that he writes for inviting is absolutely free of any conditions it does not fit any specific ID like to write whatever he was right and that is the best part about him and I will love you for that was my weird review for the American Gods and I think it’s hard to be weird because the book in good fashion.

‘The Forest of Enchantments’ – A Sitayan

“Sita’s story haunted me. Because it was one of the first stories I was told, and because I sensed there was a disconnect between the truth of Sita and the way Indian popular culture thought of her. I sensed that Sita was more than what we took her to be. But who she was I didn’t yet know.”

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni has made a well-written Author’s note right before the prologue to the novel begins. She tells us one big truth which is to a great extent a commonality among three-fourth of the world’s population who is familiar with the great epic ‘Ramayana’ – who real Sita is, is untold.

Despite Sita being considered as the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi herself, she is often regarded as a meek woman who is an epitome of sacrifice and unending love, with no temper or hatred. The ‘ideal-woman concept’ idolizes Sita for she is considered the perfect wife with silent stoicism and the ability to long endure without whimpering. This is of course a prominent reason why many name their daughters ‘Sita’ and asks them to look up to the goddess to learn subservience, sacrifice and ‘perfection’. Sita is indeed to be idolized but not in a way most people perceive.

‘The Forest of Enchantments’ is brilliantly feministic in writing. It retells Ramayana through Sita’s eyes, making us analyse the story through a gynocentric perspective. Thus, it indubitably makes Ramayan a ‘Sitayan’.  The author sets to bring out the version of Sita nobody knows, a Sita who is much more than a mere daughter, a loyal wife and a loving mother, a Sita who is a woman, an equal to Ram, one who refuses to give her dignity away even for love. Chitra Banarjee also tries to sympathize with some of the other female characters of Ramayana, who we consider evil, flawed or obnoxious, through Sita. We see Sita musing about whether Shurpanaka had deserved to get mutilated by Ram just for declaring her love for him. Similarly Sita chats with Ahalya asking her a question that most of us would’ve asked if gotten an opportunity to meet Ahalya in real- ‘why did she forgive Gautam?’. Sita is left answerless by Ahalya but it is quiet clear from her countenance that it is what women are supposed to do, forgive and endure.  Sita herself had to go through a similar situation, when Ram refused to accept her, doubting her chastity after Ravan abducted her, she performed the agni-pareeksha and the gods itself declared her innocence. Sita got the answer as to why Ahalya forgave her husband when she found herself forgiving Ram inspite of how cruel he had been to her. The author draws a picture of how women are taught to endure and forgive when men are never blamed for their actions. She also points out how love can be blinding. Ram’s consecutive injustices to Sita like abandoning her while she’s pregnant and making her do fire test is often celebrated by people as the spirit of kingship and the duty of a husband but ‘The Forest of Enchantments’ questions Ram on how he’s going to pay for his actions. The epilogue to the novel is heart-wrenching, especially for the female audience, for it shows how extreme a woman can get insulted, how her dignity is at stake and her indecisiveness whether to choose love or self-respect. Sita lets go the love of her life and chooses to be dignified and decides not to settle for anything less.

Chitra Banerjee’s ‘Sita’ is what every woman should be. Loving, caring yet resilient and dignified. The author walks us through every little detail on ‘How to be a Sita’, not the stoic one but the strong one. The book is indeed a must-read if you are ever asked to be like Sita.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harpee Lee

Nelle Harper Lee popularly known as Harper Lee was born in April 25 1926. She was an American novelist and known for her classic novel “To kill a Mockingbird”

To Kill a Mockingbird gives a picture of 1930’s fictional town Maycomb, Alabama. The book deals with various topics that was prevalent at that time , from hypocrisy to racism. Though the topic of book is very serious, author has written it in very light tone which makes book less depressing and more fun to read

There are really some interesting characters in the book , my favorite being Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch and her fathet Atticus Finch. Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch , popularly known as Scout is loud and intelligent girl. She is not afraid of saying what she thinks and deeply resent the idea of ‘Proper lady like behaviour’. She usually gets irritated when her aunt tries to teach her ‘ how a lady should behave’. She is just a girl who wants to live her life like just a regular kid. The whole book is written through her perspective and shows the various encounters she faces in three years of her life from being age 6 years old to 9 years old.

Atticus Finch is a widowed father of Scout and Jem Finch ( elder brother of Scout). He is a lawyer whose life gets changed drastically when he gets the case of black man being accused of raping white woman. Since it was 1930s there was a major racism at that time. So when Atticus takes up the case , almost all the people starts to hate him and his children. Though providing sufficient evidence that black man was falsely accused , he fails to save him from allegation. This shows how at that time black people were wrong in whatever they did and whites were always seemed as correct , no matter what. Atticus is shown as a father who does not have a great relationship with his children but never fails give right lesson and value to them.

One of the most interesting and mysterious character in the book is Arthur Radley , famously known among children as “Boo Radley”. He lives in the same area as of Finch family. There are many rumours surrounding why he is socially reclusive and almost all the people of fears him. Ironically, in the end he saves the lives of Scout and her brother. This book does a really great job in showing how people are often misjudged because of their looks and behavior

Apart from this people there are other characters named Nathan Radley ( brother of Arthur Radley) , Dill Harris ( best friend of Jem and Scout). The first half of book revolves around the life of children ( Scout , Jem and Dill) but the later half proceeds toward a serious note when Atticus takes the case. This book will surely give readers a good laugh and insight of 1930’s hypocrite and racist world.

What ‘Pride and Prejudice’ tells about life of women in early nineteenth century ?

Pride and Prejudice is a romantic novel by Jane Austen, was first published in 1813. It is a classic of English literature which centres on the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a country gentleman and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich aristocratic landowner. The novel throws light on role of women in early nineteenth century Britain. The importance of marriage in the lives of Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters have been revealed which reflects on how hard it is to be in a unmarried state, where one needs to depend on others to support themselves financially.

Those days it was believed that marriage as a vital part in a women’s life who needed support inorder to lead their life. The men were allowed to pursue higher education, then job and were let to live independently whereas women were denied education and as a result only few of them got employed. This situation of women are represented through the story of Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters. The women of those period weren’t given choice of independent life and were left to relay on someone else. Although the daughters of the middle and upper class were sent to school still their education was in a restricted form. It created lesser academic knowledge in them and restricted them from pursuing in various fields. Education for women of that time was only gained through private tutors or private institutes thus higher education got restricted and even those who were able to complete their studies successfully were not able to choose the job of their choice. As these cases can be seen through the novel where Elizabeth Bennet being lively and inquisitive mind was able to further her education independently whereas her sisters needed a more elaborate and structured one. Another major cause for denial of women’s formal education was the less job opportunities. In turn these less job availability paved way for marriage as a unavoidable part of their life. The novel also clearly states how the inheritance of property moves only to the male heirs. In case of unmarried state they remained dependent upon their relatives, receiving small incomes. At the end women were left to depend on men to support themself financially. In order to live a independent life and to ensure it for everyone there was a need for structured form of education. The novel thus clearly portrays the life of women of early nineteenth century and also stands as a record which shows the changes the life of women had been through.

I am Malala

By- Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb

“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced. Malala Yousafzai, a teenager known throughout Pakistan for her advocacy on women’s education and women’s rights. Standing up for women’s progress can be a risky business in countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan where vicious Islamic extremists have a strong foothold. She has publicly spoken for women education was shot in the head by the Taliban, in an attempt to silence her. She survived.

This near to death experience gave her a voice which could not be supressed and that progressed to her earning the Noble Prize when she was just 17, she has been continuing to fight for female education and her global scale has been increasing ever since. In Malala’s gripping book she tells a story of faith, hope and bravery.

Circumstances which brought her to the front of an international scene on female education are heart-wrenching and tragic, that involved Taliban taking over Pakistan, being forbidden to attend school because of her being a girl and was asked to stay at home and being shot in the head by the deadliest terrorist group in the world back in 2012. These are the situations which many would not be able to sail through, most would abandon and drown will fighting for what is right. But she did not budge. She kept a fierce front and continued to advocate for education for girl’s and women. After going through hell, her voice is stronger than ever and is also supported globally.

Overview

In the first half of the book, she describes the history of Pakistan, her family’s ancestors and Swat, which is the northern region of Pakistan where she used to live as a kid. She shares anecdotes about her childhood, her family. She gives the reader a glimpse of Pakistan through a women’s approach. Malala’s father founded the local school which she attended growing up, from a young age, she demonstrated strong character and soon began to ask her father why were women being treated so poorly in Pakistan. In response, he told Malala about Afghanistan, where the Taliban burned schools for young girls and forced them to wear full burkas. Her father’s goal was to make her understand that the poor treatment of women in Pakistan was actually not that bad, when he compared to the way women were treated in Afghanistan. This book is almost about her father, Ziauddin, who is a teacher, headmaster and a local activist. He is the dominant influence in Malala’s life and has been consecutively criticized for encouraging his intelligent child to be outspoken in a dangerous environment. According to Malala’s perspective, her father feels guilt and felt responsible for what had happened to her, but also is proud of her bravery and accomplishments. Ziauddin is a very progressive man in Western terms and considering where he belongs from. Her father is the leader of the local environmental movement, champion of girls’ education, woman’s rights advocate He has challenged the Taliban repeatedly at many public events. In one of the most memorable scenes from the book, Taliban mullah who was a local who was accompanied by village leaders, pay an evening call on the Yousafzai home to demand that Ziauddin needs to stop educating girls. Her dad not only pushes them back, but he also he kicks them out of the house. Malala carefully sees that her father speaks out in support of his ideals. she is heavily influenced by the conduct of her parents. She learns her father’s ideals and develops with her own impressive smartness, talent, bravery and determination. Malala’s fierce advocacy on behalf of girls’ education and women’s right is clear and forthright as her father’s. When the Taliban threats finally had shut down her school, she tells the journalists that: “They cannot stop me. I will get my education if it’s at home, school or some other place.” She has a mind of her own. She has her own voice as well. She conveys with humour, that her father is a romantic and idealistic man and her mother, is an illiterate Pashtun woman, who keeps the family grounded. It will be very interesting to see how, as she grows older, Malala will inculcate the strong and different models presented by her parents.  This book has raised many questions, In the year 2012, one of her impactful speeches led to a group of Taliban militants stopping her school bus on the way back home and shooting her in the head. Thankfully, Malala survived although she had to flee from her country her home and now lives in the United Kingdom continuing her fight for women’s right to education and their rights.

This bestseller book is an absolute treasure that will break your heart in the most beautiful way possible.
This book is one of the most intriguing reads of my life. The title comes from the quote “the fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, for we are underlings.” From ‘Julius Ceaser’ by William Shakespeare. This simply means that people are in charge of their own destiny.

It is written in a coherent narrative style. The story revolves around Hazel Grace Lancaster who narrates the story and is experiencing stage 4 thyroid malignancy and Augustus Waters who lost his leg to osteosarcoma. Their first gathering turns out to be at a Cancer Support Group. They become hopelessly enamoured knowing their life wont last more. They talk about a ton of things including films and books. They exchange their favourite novel and agrees to read it. Augustus gives Hazel ‘Prince Of Dawn’ and Hazel proposes ‘An Imperial Affliction’, a novel about a malignant growth stricken young lady Anna. Augustus reads the story and is disappointed as the story is incomplete. Subsequent to battling a ton they meet Peter Van Houten, the writer of the book. However, they are stunned by the horrifying conduct of him towards youngsters and the story goes on.

My favourite character in the book is Hazels mother. She is sincerely solid and kind lady. It was she who enrolled Hazel to Cancer Support Group to cause her to mingle. She wants to be with Hazel all the time with an end goal to make her life additionally satisfying and fun. John Green takes you on a journey both awful and wonderful. He shows the significance of family and wellbeing. The characters are so genuine and wonderful that the reader will feel an extraordinary association with them. TFIOS is brimming with light and wealthy in feelings. It additionally teaches you to be glad even in the haziest circumstances.

Some of my favourite quotes from the book are ;

‘My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellation’
‘Some infinities are bigger than other infinities’
‘That’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt’ &

“Without pain, how could we know joy?’ This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.”

Based on the book, a Hollywood movie with the same name was released on 2014 starred by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort in main roles. Later in 2020, ‘Dil Bechera’ a bollywood movie was made based on the same starred by Sushanth Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi in lead roles.

Each word, each sentence of this book is mystically woven. I would recommend
this book to all readers as it will remain in the core of them until the end of
time. You will not regret picking up this book, for sure.

My rating : 4.5 stars

Melville and his Moby dick

About the author

Herman Melville (1819-1891), the author of Moby Dick, is recognized today as one of America’s greatest writers, although there was a time when critics as well as readers rejected his writings. He wrote more than ten major novels, based on experiences that he had gone through himself. Some of his adventures in real life were more exciting than the ones he describes in his novels, but none was as strange and thrilling as the story he tells in Moby Dick.
Melville was born in 1819 in New York City. His parents, like many other Americans, were of mixed nationality, being partly English and partly Dutch. The Melville family was a well known one, but had become poor at the time of Herman’s birth. He was forced to give up school at the age of fifteen in order to earn his living. He tried his hand at various jobs: farming, teaching at schools, working in offices-in fact, any work that he could find. Finally, in 1839, he went to sea as a common sailor. His first voyage took him to the port of Liverpool, in England. He found life at sea so attractive that he decided to remain in this profession.

In December 1840, Melville joined the crew of a whaling-ship, the Acushnet, and went on a long voyage to the Pacific. After sixteen months on board, he and a shipmate ran away from the ship when it stopped at Nukhera, an island in the group of islands in the Pacific known as the Marquesas. They spent several weeks on this island, where they were in danger of being killed and eaten by cannibal tribes, before returning to America on another ship. Melville described these adventures in two of his novels which became instant hits-Typee and Omoo.

Between 1840 and 1843, Melville worked on two other whaling ships, the Lucy Ann, and the Charles and Henry. His experiences on these ships were used by him in writing Moby Dick. He gave up his sea-going life in 1844 and devoted himself completely to writing. In 1850, he met the great American writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne, who encouraged him to write Moby Dick, and to whom this novel was dedicated.

About the book

Moby Dick is a book with several layers of meaning and can be read at different levels. At one level, it is an exciting tale of adventure. There are many other well known stories of adventures at sea, but what makes Moby Dick special is the fact that it provides a rare glimpse into a particular kind of life-life on a whaling-ship, or whaler, which Melville knew at first hand.

This is the story of Captain Ahab, the captain of a whaling-ship, the Pequod, and his unending battle against a white whale, to which sailors had given the name Moby Dick. Because of its unusual colour and its great size, Moby Dick had become a valued prize for all whale-hunters. But in the case of Captain Ahab, there was an element of personal enmity and a desire for revenge as well. In an earlier meeting with Moby Dick, Ahab had lost one of his legs, which was bitten off by the whale. Thereafter, he had only one goal in life-to kill the white whale. After months of pursuit through the oceans, the man and the whale came together at last; the battle is resumed.
The story is narrated by a sailor called Ishmael, who becomes a witness to the battle between Ahab and Moby Dick.

MOBY DICK as an Allegory

It becomes clear from the beginning that the author wants us to read his story as an allegory-a story with hidden spiritual meaning. Almost everything in the book has symbolic value and represents something abstract. The names of the major characters in the story are taken from the Bible, which was a source of inspiration for Puritans, a religious group.

Moby Dick can be read, at one level, as a tale of adventure. However, the fame of this book rests chiefly on the complex spiritual and religious elements that Melville wove into the story. Moby Dick is regarded as an epic, like our own Mahabharat or Ramayan, or the Iliad and the Odyssey, which were written by the Greek poet Homer, thousands of years ago.

An epic is a long tale which presents before us a vast, many-sided picture of human life and nature. Everything in an epic is on a grand scale there may be hundreds of characters, engaged over a long period of time in numerous exciting adventures. Most epics are stories of great battles, in which human beings perform heroic, almost superhuman deeds. These battles often represent wars between the forces of good and those of evil, with the former becoming victorious in the end.

Moby Dick is also an allegory in which ordinary objects, characters and events become ‘symbols’, representing abstract qualities or emotions. In poetry, for example, the rose is often used as a symbol to represent beauty and love, both of which are abstract things. Another common example of a symbol is the national flag of a country-though only a piece of cloth, it can give rise to the powerful but abstract emotion of patriotism. Many men and women have sacrificed their lives to protect the honor of their national flag.

The early American writers were mostly Puritans from New England. The Puritans, who became powerful in England in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, belonged to a Christian group which believed that God had created man only to serve and obey Him and that it was the duty of every human being to lead a pure and strict life, avoiding all forms of temptation. For a Puritan, life was a constant struggle against Evil. They believed that they were the only true Christians. In the sixteenth century, a group of Puritans left England and sailed to America, because they felt they did not have the freedom to lead the kind of religious life which they wanted. The part of America where they settled was known as New England.

Herman Melville was brought up as a Puritan and was deeply influenced by other Puritan writers. It was natural for him, therefore, to see life as a struggle between the forces of good and evil.
Moby Dick is a powerful expression of this Puritan view of life, although there are other elements in it as well, taken from other cultures and religions that Melville became interested in.
When we read Moby Dick as an allegory, symbolizing the battle between good and evil, it is not always easy to decide which qualities a character represents. Is Ahab a symbol of Goodness, and does Moby Dick symbolize Evil? This is what one might think at the beginning of the novel, since Ahab is shown as a heroic character, possessing superhuman courage and determination, while Moby Dick, the whale, is described as a killer. But gradually, we begin to see that there are many sides to both Ahab and Moby Dick. The whale turns into a mysterious supernatural power, which is beyond human understanding, while Ahab appears to become inhuman in the way he ignores the pain and suffering of others in his thirst for revenge. The line separating good from evil is not clear; both good and evil are seen to be parts of a larger design, balancing each other. Here, Melville seems to move away from a Puritan view of life and may have been influenced by other religions such as Zoroastrianism (the religion of the Parsis) as well as Buddhism and Hinduism.

The Power of your Subconscious ind by Dr. Joseph Murphy

Every single person has a desire for something but they still live in the fear of feeling this fear leads into somewhere in the darkness and if you are that one person who lives with this fear of feeling the book that may help you overcome the fear and make you a man with positive thoughts.

The Power of subconscious Mind. The book is written by Dr. Joseph Murphy and it was published in 1962. This book is published in a lot of languages but English is the first language.

There are 20 chapters in this book and all these 20 chapters really important topics.

The very first chapter of the book says that there is a “Treasure house inside you” and that treasure house is your subconscious mind and there is infinite intelligence in your subconscious mind. If you are wondering that you can do something and if you are trying to find a solution to certain problems then you have to look inside yourself and you have to look inside your subconscious mind for the solution. Every the question has a solution the power of the subconscious mind solves any problem.

The very good example given in this book is “Autosuggestion”. Human beings are two types magnetize people and demagnetize people. Magnetize people who are in touch with their subconscious mind and they know how to draw it from there and the other hand people who do not have any idea about the subconscious mind and they don’t know that they have so much potential inside them they are the demagnetize people who do not achieve anything. It’s all about if you want to magnetize that is if you want to be aware of the power that resides in the subconscious
mind of yours and that will make you a person who can achieve anything.

Another important point in this book is “Affirmative thinking” that is to affirm yourself that you can do anything and you can achieve any heights. This a very beautiful paragraph in this book and in that
paragraph it’s written that your mind is like a garden whatever you sow you going to reap. So if you are sowing negative thoughts you can get negative results. By on the other hand if you can showing positive thoughts that you going to do great in life. There’s hard work you have to work hard to achieve success. But it’s the hard work is the only thing. Ex) there’s a lot of people working hard but is everyone successful not really. So working hard is only 80% of it 20% is yourself making aware of the power that resides on your subconscious mind so only then you will be able to give your
100%.
There’s also a very important point in this book and it about “ Dreaming whatever you want to achieve”. So if you watch interviews of successful people then you will understand that all of them used to visualize themselves as successful people that they used to daydream. Daydreaming is about when you sit down and think and visualize yourself being successful that is if you want to be a CEO of a company you visualize yourself sitting in that chair of CEO. Only hard work does not work because hard work is only a part of if the other one is being positive thoughts that one day you are going to reach your dream it is affirming yourself.

There are also chapters in this book that speaks about “Healing of physical illness and mental illness”. So if you are dealing with anything you can read this book and understand how you can use the power of subconscious mind to heal yourself from any kind of illness.
Theirs is also a chapters completely to wealth and success. This chapter tells you about the wrong approach that you have to wealth and success and if you actually apply the techniques that are given in this book and may be the chance that you will be able to get overcoming the financial issues. There’s also a chapter in this book that tells you about how scientists use the subconscious mind to transform their ideas into reality and there many examples in this book.

Another chapter there’s about “Sleepen or approach to a sleep”. Usually we are tried and go to sleep and we think that instantly we completely switched it off we switched off our brain and we sleep but that is not really true our conscious mind is basically sleeps but subconscious mind is always awaken. The subconscious mind take care that you are still breathing, your heart is pumping, and your body is functioning properly, the food that you had in your dinner it gets digesting properly or not everything is taken care by our subconscious mind so if you are aware of the subconscious mind and if you are touch with it then all function will be working properly and that is why sleep is very important in that time conscious mind never intrudes and it’s never interface in the functioning of subconscious mind just before you fall sleep is the time when you think about all the positive things.

Another very important chapter in this book is about happiness and how you can achieve it happiness is something you have to decide sincerely from your heart. if you think that you never be happy you can never be happy because, happiness is the state of mind as you already here a lot of times before and that is true. You have to sincerely desire happiness you have to feel to yourself by the affirmative thinking you have to tell yourself self constantly that you will be happy that you choose to be happy and you will be able to sow the seed of positive thinking of happiness it is the subconscious mind and eventually be happy.

Achieving a certain goal will make you happy but, that happiness is going to be temporary because, you will set another goal for yourself and then you will wait for yourself to achieve that goal only then you will be happy. it doesn’t work like that it works in a way that it is constant process happiness is a constant choice we can choose every morning and every night.

You want to read a book only then you will understand in absolute depth. This book will change so much in you. This will change your mind, it will change your life.
