When we talk about biggest wastes of talent in Indian cricket ,Vinod Kambli is certainly one of the players that comes in our mind . and why not ? the kind of talent that he posssesesd , he had the ability to hit a 75 ball 100 in test cricket in that era .
Besides his memorable unbeaten 664 run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar in the harris shield trophy match where he scored 349 runs along with Sachin who scored 326 runs , Kambli also took 6 wickets for just 37 runs . perhaps this was the reason that Ramakant Achrekar , the guru of these two players , considered Vinod Kambli more talented than Sachin. But today ,Sachin Tendulkar is called the God of cricket , while Vinod Kambli is counted among the failed the cricketers .
After making his Test debut in `1993 , Kambli matched Don Bradman and Wally Hammond by hammering successive double test centuries , almost overshadowing Sachin Tendulkar for a brief period . having that said , he did absolutely nothing outside the Indian Subcontinent .
At a time , when he enjoyed a lot of attention , fan following and adulation , he somehow lost his head . he got himself into a lot of trouble with his off field activities and started making headlines for many wrong reasons including alcohol ,affairs and brawls . bad attitude , lack of discipline and lack of work ethic made things worse for him.
Not to mention , his technique had flaws like the high backlift where fast bowlers were able to get through the gate.
To add to his misery , this low coincided with a poor run with the bat where he was bounced out by curtly Ambrose at home , in 1994-95 season. He had played what turned out to be his last test in 1995 , aged only 23.
What happened thereafter ? He was dropped from the one day side after 1996 World cup on disciplinary grounds and since then he could never cement his place . The same world cup had also seen Kambli publically breaking down after the disgrace exit of the Indian cricket team in the semifinal and not-so-publically , allegedly, creating a showdown in the team as well .
If this wasn’t enough, he made some controversial statements against Sachin Tendulkar in a TV Show named Sach ka Samna where he alleged Sachin for not supporting him in his difficult times
After he was terminated from the national team for one last time in 2000 due to his poor form and poor record , India saw the emergence of two future greats namely Rahul Dravid and Saurav Gaunguly .
Kambli later blamed his own failures on his captain , teammates , selectors and cricket board.
To conclude , Kambli was a colossal waste of talent . he let success go to his head and was an entitled brat. I remember a comment he made after his breakthrough double tons saying something to the effect of” Sachin took the elevator and I took the stairs but we’re both here now “.
I think his cricketing journey is a perfect example of how hard work and strong ethics beats talent regardless of what anyone says.Having a lot of talent makes you complacent as it gives you the false illusion and security that you are better than everyone else.
“ If you travel deep inside some 340 +km from Chennai, you get to see a small village called Chinnappampatti. With barely any transportation available you would only find buses that will take you there. If you happen to visit the place , ask for Natarajan , the whole village loves to talk about their humble chella paiyan, which loosely translates into go boy ,” says a local resident .
And rightly said . Cricket has no limits. It doesn’t have the foggiest idea where and which place you are . In India , people are so determined by cricket that each and everyone wants to break into the national team as if it is super easy and then you will find strict mothers who chase you for playing the game and breaking the windows. Having said that , nobody believes in you as they do.
In Tamil Nadu, cricket was never a career option but a pass time . however , with hard work , proper path and determination some do make it . And one of them is Thangarasu Natarajan .
Natarajan’s family wasn’t monetarily wealthy. While his dad functioned as a coolie at a railroad station , his mother ran a road side snack stall. being the eldest child , Natarajan was constantly stressed about his family , but cricket has been a friend in need for the Natarajan family .
In an interview with Times of India ,the left arm quick recalled his early days of struggle , “ We didn’t had enough food on the table, it was truly a struggle .”
“ we all studied in a government school and there were no facilities or mentors who could help me with my cricketing ambitions ,” says Natarajan.
At a time when basic necessities like food and water were hard to come by let alone cricket gear , the bowler sharpened his skills by playing tennis ball cricket .
His fortunes started changing after his breakthrough performances in Tamil Nadu premier league ( TNPL) , first with dindigul dragons and then with lyca kovai kings that caught the attention of former kings XI Punjab ( now Punjab kings ) coach , Virender Sehwag , and was bought for a Whooping 3 crore, making him the highest unpaid Indian uncapped player in the auction .
However , his dream came true when he was selected for the Indian national team , after some stellar performances for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian premier league 2020.
The left arm quick picked up two wickets in his ODI debut and three wickets for 30 runs in his T20 Debut , helping the team win on each occasions . Upon his return from Australia , the Yorker king was taken on a chariot in his village in Salem district of Tamil Nadu.
Natarajan’s cricketing journey is full of inspiration. It teaches us that with hard work and dedication , anything can be accomplished . We , as Indian cricket fans , wish Natarajan carries his good form for team India in the foreseeable future and keep on making his fans and his loved ones proud .
It is no exaggeration to say that cricket is a sport that has caught the attention of all the people of the world. Cricketers are celebrated by fans all over the world. Cricket games that are full of money and fame are loved by everyone regardless of age.
England is the Homeland of Cricket
The game has been played in England since the early seventeenth century. Cricket was invented by the people of England especially to enjoy the summer holidays. But now it is being played in many countries all season. Public interest and involvement in this sport is increasing.
Game Mode
It is a game of eleven on both teams. Two members of a team play with the bat, and one of the opposing team throws the ball, while the other ten members of the team fielding. If the batsman leaves according to certain rules, another member of the team will come and play. Similarly, if ten batsmen are out, the players from the opposing team will play with the bat. Throwing six balls is called an over.
Test and ODI Match
As far as cricket is concerned, Tests and ODIs are played. Test matches have been played since 1877. For the first time, England and Australia played a Test match.
The game, which lasts for five days, is often drawn without a win or a loss. So the interest of the fans is likely to decline in Test matches. Occasionally they host one-day matches.
ODIs have been played since 1971. The ODI series has been reduced from 60 overs to 50 overs at present.
Global Matches
There are global matches in cricket every year. There were also triangular tournaments in which only three countries participate. But now those matches are not taking place.
Cricket was played at the 1900 Olympic Games. Then it was dropped.
The World Cup has been held since 1975. The West Indies were the first team to win the four-yearly World Cup.
The 1983 World Cup was won by our Indian team led by Kapil Dev and brought pride to India. After Kapil Dev, India won the World Cup in 2011 ODIs under Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Achievements that have occurred
Australian batsman Don Bradman has amassed a record 10,000 runs in Tests. After that, India’s Sachin Tendulkar topped the list with over 10,000 runs.
Then in the test match, Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar became world famous by amassing a record of 10,000 runs. Currently, India’s Virat Kohli tops the list with over 10,000 runs.
Similarly, India’s Kapil Dev took a record 400 wickets. Courtney Walsh of the West Indies then broke that record. Currently Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan has a record of over 800 wickets.
Kapil Dev went on to captain India and amassed many victories. After him Mohammad Azharuddin amassed many victories. After all, Mahendra Singh Dhoni bought many victories for India.
The interest in cricket, which is considered to be one of the greatest sports in the world, is increasing day by day. Cricket, which was played only in the UK, has spread all over the world and is now played in more than fifteen countries. The fact is that the longer it spreads the more the nations of the world will play.
Lankans won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers minod Minod Bhanuka and Avishka Fernando added 59 runs in powerplay. Yazuvendra chahal broke this partnership and Minod 36(42) hit one delivery to Manish Pandey at midwicket and he made no mistake. On the very next ball, new man Bhanuka rakjpaksha edged the delivery to Ishan kishan and returned to pavilion with a golden duck.
Then, avishka Fernando and Dhananjay de selva continued the innings and added few runs between them. Avishka after reaching his fifty falled to Bhuvaneshwar,he scored 50 of 71. Deepak chahar got rid of Dhananjay 32 of 45 with a knuckle ball, shanaka 16 of 24 was bowled by chahal and Hasranga 8 of 11 was bowled over by chahar. Aslanka continued the scoreboard ticking and registered his maiden fifty and soon fall to Bhuvaneshwar,he scored 65 of 68. Karunaratne 44 of 33 landed some blows at end to take his side to 275/9. Bhuvaneshwar and chahal bagged 3 wickets each while deepak chahar took 2 wickets.
Chasing 275,Shaw and Dhawan opened the Indian innings and shaw hit 3 boundaries and was looking in good touch. Lankans introduced Hasranga and he got rid of shaw 13 of 11 with a googly. Kishan 1 of 4 soon followed with falling to Rajitha.
Dhawan 29 of 38 tried to carry the innings but Hasranga got better of him and he was strucked on pad and review got Lankans his wicket. Manish Pandey 37 of 31 , was striking well but he was unlucky to be run out. then, Hardik Pandya chipped one straight to midwicket to fall for a duck. Suryakumar Yadav continued the fight at the other end and scored a fluent fifty. Krunal Pandya sttruggled but managed to hang in there. Lakshan Sandakan trapped Suryakumar 53 of 44 leg-before-wicket and few overs later,Hasaranga castled Krunal 35 of 54 . Victory seemed easy to Lanka at that time and match was in their control.
After, that Bhuvneshwar and Chahar took the game deep. Chahar hit a massive six off Sandakan in the 43rd over and followed it up with two more boundaries in the next over to reach his fifty. Some streaky boundaries added to Sri Lanka’s woes and eased India’s path to victory eventually as the match was completed with five balls to spare. Bhuvaneshwar scored 19 of 28 and Chahar made 69 of 82. For his all-round performance Deepak chahar was given ‘Player of the match’ award.
Hasranga bagged 3 wickets and Rajitha,Shanaka and Sandakan got 1 wicket each.
T-20 world cup is near and India in chahar may have discovered an All-rounder. We’ve seen him landing few blows in IPL, but it was new for us in Indian Jersey. India will look to clean sweep the Lankans while Lankans will play for their pride in the last match,as they’ve nothing to loose now.
MATCHES PLAYED BY ALL ROUNDERS WHERE THEIR PERFORAMANCE HELPED THEIR TEAM TO HOLD TROPHIES
What is Cricket??
Cricket is a worldwide sport played by a team consisting of thirteen players where eleven alone will enter match and play with soul-hearted. There will be two opponent teams as they fight against each other as teams to win the game. There are different types in this sport itself: T20 series, one day match, World Tour, League matches and Test matches.
State matches and district wise are also conducted by private or government organization to pick valuable players to join teams. This sport requires a huge ground or vast area to practice. The center of play area is the pitch where stumps are placed in either ends. For batting there are ten wickets and swapping of roles in teams takes place if innings gets completed or all the wickets are gone.
There are four types of players to play a match (fielders, bowlers, batting and all-rounders) in every team as everyone is primary to assist or win the match along with teammates.
This brief description helps you to figure out a sample idea of how will the cricket be and let me continue with all-rounders who perform dual roles to make them team fruitful in winning the game. Their responsibility in match is a bit higher than single tasking persons. So let me discuss a few players who showed out their rage to gain success. (all-rounders)
Kapil Dev
The master of cricket and the first person to win his most count of matches as an all-rounder. His performance of handling the match with the flow of bat and ball was enormous. He was the Captain of the Indian team when they won the WORLD CUP for the first time in 1983. He bowled the first while swapping roles in a similar where he as a low-ordered batsman gave only 6 runs in 4 overs. He is a faster bowler in a medium speed and also critical hitting batsman. Also, the coach for Indian team for consecutive two years. His talent of bowling and batting made the team to get the cup for the nation. Holds the highest record in the world for taking wickets on all test series matches thus establishing a huge fame in Indian Cricket Organization.
2.Virender Sehwag
The First to bat in their team who is an extreme and ruthless batsman ever seen in matches. He is a well-respected all-rounder and a hard-hitting batsman for all types of bowling raising them to boundaries. He is a decent off-spinner and a good fielder over the critical times of innings by resisting ball to reach the lines of boundaries. An arrogant man hesitating to face failures, a game changer in certain matches where their team struggles over boundaries. Helped “Team India” score many wins over the decades against several countries and matches. “A trump card for the whole set that’s what we can call him”.
3.Garfield Sobers
A unique key player recognized by all members in ICC (International Cricket Council) has been identified by other opponents as a threat in all the fields. Besides his retirement a rage of his energy is compensable as he can play the role of three cricketers in a match. He has taken a total of 235 wickets overall in his career. A multi-talented bowler and a low-medium batsman in the cricket history. Being appointed for West Indies for the first time his enormous performance covered a wide fame. He has a record of holding 26 times centuries and 30 half-centuries. Still 1994, His record of scoring runs was not broken against Pakistan. (365 not out) For his excellence he served as a Captain for West Indies and still his record is among the top 5 leading runs a greatest achievement of all.
4.Andrew Flintoff
Always known as the hero of the Britain of early 2000 for his heroic acts in his first Ashes series where he was able to defeat Australia’s team known as the best in the world. A quick wicket gainer in both batting and bowling fields having a record of 226 wickets in his journey of cricket. His endless eye-catching performance made him an all-rounder with a huge fanbase and fame for his name remembered still now by teenagers.
I have given the best of all players whose performance have really gave their team to win an extra-ordinary innings against an enormous talented team thus establishing a history in records in International Cricket to be remembrance of.

Very few people who have played this game can match the genius of AB De Villiers. He is a modern master of this game and has innumerable records to his name. Usually known for his 360 degree shots which got him the name Mr.360, he can tear any bowling attack apart when he is in a flow. His presence alone is enough to strike fear in the hearts of opponents. Born on 17th of February 1984 in a small town in South Africa, he is known all over the world as an ambassador for unorthodox shots. There isn’t any shot that he cannot play.
International Career
Having represented his country, South Africa for 14 years, he has won many matches for them and chased victory from the jaws of defeat. A clean striker of the ball, he has played various sports while growing up but decided to take up cricket. Result, 20,000+ runs 40+ centuries and countless breathtaking feats which mere mortals cannot achieve. He along with Hashim Amla, Faf duplessis and Quinton Dekock form a world class batting order which is almost impenetrable.
However, the tour that shot him to fame was the Australia tour in 2012 where he played a match saving knock along with the debutant Faf Duplessis. In the very next match, he scored a match winning hundred and won the test series. He ended his career with 8000+ runs in test at an average of over 50 and including 22 hundreds. He has an ordinary record in tests but has an unbelievable record in ODIs. Scoring over 9000 runs at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 101 is not an ordinary feat.
He has 25 hundreds to his name, all of which have been scored over a strike rate of 100. He holds the record for the fastest 50,100 and 150 in ODIs, all of which have been scored against West Indies. His wide range of shots and his consistency has got him a chance to play various T20 leagues across the globe.
IPLthrough years
Getting a chance to play in the inaugural edition of the IPL through Delhi Daredevils, he hasn’t played an impressive part in his first season. However with the tournament being shifted to South Africa in the next edition, he got a chance to play all the matches and has scored over 400 runs including a hundred on Chennai Super Kings. He was in and out of the team frequently in the third edition and eventually was released from the squad.
The Bangalore based franchise, RCB bought him as a lower order batsman and he continued to impress them by chipping valuable runs down the order. Later, his promotion up the order worked wonders for the team. He along with the King, Virat Kohli won many matches on their own. On field, he is a live wire. His acrobatic fielding, agility and the way he strikes the ball has earned him a nickname of “Superman”. Even after retirement from international cricket, he is continuing to enthrall the spectators wherever he plays.

The longest form of cricket i.e., Test cricket was started in 1877. The first test match was played between England and Australia in Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia. Australian team emerged as the winner of the first test. This was a timeless test match it means that no specific number of days is fixed for playing and play will not stop until there is any result. The five days test cricket that we are familiar with was first played in 1985. From 1877 to 2021 we do not have a champion team in test cricket. It was in 2019 when ICC decided to conduct a World Test Championship to decide the first test champion among the test playing nations. It was in 2021 that the first Test Championship final was played between New Zealand team and the Indian side and New Zealand become the first Test Champions by defeating India.

Brian Lara(Full Name: Brian Charles Lara) is a former Trinidadian cricker and is regarded as one of the greatest to have ever graced the game. He was a prolific run scorer in both one day internationals and test cricket. He was born on 2nd May, 1969 in Cantaro, Trinidad. He batted left hand and is known in the cricket world for his knock of 400 not out versus England in 2004 – a record for most runs scored by a batsman in one innings. He also scored a score of 501 not out, which is also a record for the highest first class individual score in an innings, for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994.
He did not take much time to impress others at Harvard cricket clinic. Spotting his talent, his coach soon made him play against cricket balls. West Indain cricketer Carlisle Best was impressed with the boy after seeing him bat at the club and presented him a bat as a gift. He loved both cricket and football as a kid. When he confronted with a situation to choose one, it was his father who played a role in Lara’s decision.
He made his debut for the national cricket team of West Indies when he was just 21 in the year 1990. It took him a bit longer to create an impression at the top level, it was not until 1994. In 1994, he broke the records of highest individual score in test cricket after score 375 runs versus England and the record of highest individual score in first class cricket after scoring 501 not out in county cricket. He later bettered his personal best score by scoring 400 not out against the same opposition and broke the record that belonged Mathew Hayden ( Mathew Hayden 380).
He raised curtains to his international career after 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. He finished his career as one of the most prolific run scorers in the history of cricket. He scored 11, 953 and 10,405 in test cricket and one day cricket respectively(including 53 centuries) – one of the few to do so. Called as ‘Prince of Trinidad’, he was inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame in 2012.
The Indian men’s cricket team is one of the best teams in all formats among the other world class teams. People following men’s cricket are many. People know the names of every player playing for the nation. Many fans go craze on their favourite stars. There is also women’s cricket in India which was played from many years back. But people following women’s cricket are very few. The count is incomparable with that of men’s cricket. In men’s cricket, there are many idols like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli. But there is no big name in women’s cricket that everyone knows. The reason is apparent. There is no proper plan and infrastructure for women’s cricket across the country in domestic State level and District level. There was no inspiration for girls to take up cricket. They didn’t get to know the life of a woman cricketer. They didn’t have any idea of how would the life be after playing for the nation; what are the benefits they get; and how to get into a State level team. No growth of women’s cricket was seen till 2010s.
This situation prevailed for some years until 2011. After that a name had gone familiar with people. That name is Mithali Raj. She is also called as the lady Sachin Tendulkar of India. She has a pretty long and successful career. She made her debut in 1999 and is still playing for the country with career spanning over 2 decades. At 16, Raj scored an unbeaten 114 on ODI debut and soon established herself as the lynchpin of India’s batting. The roots of her copybook stroke play lay in her precocious talent that blossomed under the tutelage of her former coach, the late Sampath Kumar, and a regimented upbringing in an army family. With a passion for Bharatanatyam, her nifty footwork found expression on the field, becoming as much a hallmark of her batting as have been grace and an unrivalled precision at plundering runs in the cover region. She captained the Indian team for the first time at a young age of 22 years. She holds the record of having 3rd longest test careers, playing for 19 years. She is the 2nd highest run scorer in history of women’s cricket in all three formats added. She scored 10266 runs in her career totally. She has an amazing average of 44.6 in tests, 51.26 in ODI’s and 37 in T20s.
After her, many girls took up cricket as their career and started representing India. BCCI also looked up to the growth of women’s cricket. They developed the infrastructure and conducted many domestic games which boosted the talents to work hard. Also created a craze for young girls towards cricket. In the growth of Indian women’s cricket, there is a notable contribution done by Mithali Raj. She was also awarded with Padma Shri and Arjuna Award for cricket. She deserves every honour that she received. Thank you Mithali Raj.
Cricket one of the most widely played sports in the world. A game that has millions of fans. A sport which has not to remain just a sport but a life for many/ but which has become a life of many.
Move passion, move people, move a lot of money, move to television. But to understand this you have to look a little in history, know its origin and evolution now. Cricket was invented in the vast fields of England, supposedly by shepherds who herded their flock. Later on, this game was shown kindness by aristocrats, and now has the stature of being England’s national game. After a century now, cricket stands in the international arena, with a place of its own.
THE GAME
Cricket involves two teams with 11 players on each side. The captain who wins the toss decides whether his team bats or bowls first. If they bat first, they aim to score a lot of runs and make sure the other team does not reach that score.
FORMATS OF THE GAME
Cricket is played in many formats, but the most popular are TEST CRICKET and ONE DAY cricket. In TEST cricket game goes on for 5 days, with each team batting twice – if time permits.
ONE DAY is the most popular format, with each team getting 50 overs to score runs. And the other team tries to outscore them within the same number of overs.
T-Twenty format which consists of 20 overs per team to play is now one of the shortest formats in international cricket and one of the most emerging formats in the current era.
The Cricket world cup is the biggest international event of cricket. The winner of the cup shows who are champions of the game. Australia has 5 World Cup titles in their name the most by any country.
Women’s cricket also emerged a lot in recent years. But it still doesn’t get the same amount of support and viewership from the fans. Seeing the current support from them one day it will get the same amount that today the men’s team get.
Cricket has produced many legendary players all over this time. The first one was Sir Don Bradman with an average 0f 99.97, then comes the god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar, MR Cricket Mike Hussey, and King Virat Kohli, and successful captains like M.S Dhoni, Ricky Ponting and many more.
