BUDDHIST PILGRIMAGES IN INDIA

Explore these locations to be awestruck by their beauty and to learn more about Buddha’s teachings.

Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya is India’s Buddhist epicenter. The tiny village of Bodh Gaya in Bihar reverberates with a serene atmosphere infused with profound devotion. This 2,500-year-old Buddhism cradle, studded with temples and monasteries, welcomes people from all across the globe to soak up its spiritual and holy vibes, follow Lord Buddha’s footsteps, and hear about his teachings at the very spot where he attained enlightenment. The serenity pervades every wind in this tiny village. Prince Siddhartha, better renowned as Lord Buddha, is claimed to have taken shelter under the most sacred tree in the vicinity, the Bodhi tree, there he meditated till enlightenment.

The beautiful Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Lord Buddha’s four sacred shrines. The renowned sandstone temple stands 52 meters tall in the heart of Bodh Gaya town, amidst lush green gardens. The existing Bodhi tree, most likely the sixth generation of the first, a prominent emblem in Buddhism, is located to the left of the Mahabodhi Temple. It commemorates the spot where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment underneath the first Bodhi tree. Buddha meditated for about a month in Bodhgaya under a holy fig tree. Bodhi Day, which honors Buddha’s enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, is observed every year on Dec 8 by Buddhists all around the world.

It’s a delightful surprise, with exquisite engravings and arch motifs on the tower. A golden figure of Lord Buddha in his renowned bhumisparsha mudra, with one finger touching the ground and asking it to witness his enlightenment, can be found inside the temple. A statue of Mayadevi, Lord Buddha’s mother, is housed in a room at the top.

Sarnath

Sarnath,10km from Varanasi, was the starting point for Buddha’s teachings and preaching. Buddha gave his first lectures after nirvana in this very location. Sarnath is one of India’s four holiest Buddhist sites, with constructions like the Dhamekh Stupa and Chaukhandi Stupa highlighting its historical importance.

The solid cylindrical structured Stupa made of red bricks and stone reaches a height of 43.6 m and a diameter of 28 m. This historic site is significant because it represents the site where Lord Buddha delivered His first teaching to His 5 monks following achieving enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. Buddhist pilgrims from all across the world come to Sarnath to worship Lord Buddha.

Lord Buddha’s remains were dispersed and buried beneath 8 mounds after his enlightenment, with the embers and urn buried beneath 2 additional mounds, for a total of 10 such memorials housing Lord Buddha’s relics.

Great Indian Emperor Ashoka of the Maurya Dynasty, who reigned over almost the entire Indian subcontinent from c. 268 to 232 BCE, constructed multiple Stupas across India bearing relics of Lord Buddha and his disciples, to spread Buddhism. At 249 BCE, he ordered the construction of the Dhamek Stupa at Sarnath, which was later reconstructed in 500 CE, as well as several other Sarnath structures.

Kushinagar

Kushinagar is a well-known tourist destination associated with Gautama Buddha, located 51 kilometers east of Gorakhpur on National Highway No. 28. Buddha delivered his last and final preaching here in 483 BC. The statue of Lord Buddha in nirvana, which towers 6.10 meters tall and dates from the 5th century A.D., is built of monolith red-sandstone. The ‘Resting-Buddha’ is seen lying on his right side, facing west. It is a holy pilgrimage place since it is where Lord Buddha breathed his last.

Kushinagar’s other attractions include the Indo-Japanese Temple, Burmese Temple, Chinese Temple, Thai Temple, Korean, Sri Lankan, Tibetan temples, 15-acre Meditation Park, and Museum.

Tawang Monastery

Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world, located in Tawang city of Tawang district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, serves as the valley’s social, cultural, and spiritual hub. This monastery, perched on a hill about 10,000 feet above sea level, is India’s largest, with views of ravines to the south and west, a short ridge to the north, and a gradual slope to the east. During the winter, it is buried in snow, which enhances its splendor.

The Mandalas or Kying-Khores are painted on the Kakaling’s ceilings and inner roofs, while saints and divinities are depicted on the inside walls. On the monastery’s northern flank, after Kakaling, is the main gate. It has a 925-foot-long eastern wall. A 25-foot-high golden statue of Lord Buddha, perched on a lotus throne and flanked by his two chief attendants, Maudgalyayana and Sariputra, each bearing staff and a bowl, is a major attraction of the monastery. The Tawang Monastery, which is three stories tall and is enclosed by a 925-foot high compound wall, houses 65 residential buildings.

The monastery is historically notable as it was founded in 1681 per the wishes of Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso, the 5th Dalai Lama. The word ‘Tawang’ translates to ‘chosen by a horse,’ and legend has it that a horse belonging to the founder, Mera Lama Lodre Gyatso, chose the current monastery’s location. Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth Dalai Lama, was born at Tawang, making it a significant Tibetan Buddhist pilgrimage destination.

Ajanta Caves

The Ajanta Caves, 107 kms from Aurangabad and 60 kms from Jalgaon, were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. A protected monument in the care of the Archaeological Survey of India, it is a cluster of 32 Buddhist caves not far from a medieval village of the same name. Ajanta’s thirty rock-hewn caves, built into a cliff’s scarp, are either chapels or monasteries. Paintings adorn the cave walls, many of which retain their original colors. Exquisitely carved sculpture adorns the building’s outer walls. The Ajanta paintings’ Buddhist motif embodies the essence of Lord Buddha’s life and previous earthly events.

Role Of Social Media In Transforming Tourism Marketing

When social media sites had flourished with millions of users, it was confined to connecting with friends and family only. With increased popularity of social media, businesses received an opportunity to expand their products and services on online platforms as a newfound marketing source. Earlier, the technology being unknown, fear of investing in social media had taken over most businesses, even large operating hotels. Soon, realizing how cheaper and effective it is, marketing strategies were beyond newspapers and mouth publicity. Hotels and restaurants are able to set up websites and create profiles of their business. It is proven to be the best and effective source of marketing, especially for new and upcoming businesses.

Travel agencies were popularly hired to plan trips or book hotels. Since, they had connections with the hotels and other tourist visiting places, they were tremendously hired. There was no other way to contact them without these agents. Now, profiles can be created that allows customers to book rooms according to their likings and avail discounts, if applicable. When visiting a new state or a country, many times you are unaware of the good restaurants or restaurants that serve your preferred cuisine, in that case finding restaurants around your location is one search away.

Travelers before the beginning of social media era were naïve. They were not aware about the deals or ratings. Research could not be done before visiting due to lack of resources to find out about the popularity or prices of the hotels and restaurants. Consumers can know the quality of the food served or services provided through the ratings under each business. Ratings can also be posted by you if you like or dislike the services. Ratings have a range of factors on which you can rate, such as food quality, ambience, prices. Concept of ratings encourage businesses to improve their quality and services. It is a huge platform to promote businesses through ratings and comments by the actual visitors.

Consumers expect great services with cheaper prices, delivering such requirements creates a difference in overall marketing. Media has immense power to either uplift your business or downgrade it to ‘Should not be visited’ status. Offering expected services on time and encouraging a feedback from the customers leaves a lasting impression without evidently provoking a bad review.

Online travel sites are being chosen over physically operating travel agencies. Such travel agencies have minimum expenses and huge profits due to affordable deals provided to attract customers. Seeing low-cost deals persuades customers to choose them as agents. Such agencies with little operating maintenance have substituted other travel agencies.

Promotion of travel and tourism on social media sites like Instagram, Facebook has supported nations from around the world to draw tourist and elevate growth of tourism and hospitality. In India, every state has its own tourism campaign run on social media platforms through films and pictures. During recent times, tourism had faced a fatal downfall because of Coronavirus. Many businesses were shut down by the massive hit of Covid-19. With improved conditions, tourism sector is gradually recovering. With the help of social media, tourism sector will recover faster and better.

They are so tiny, that some of them can even be covered by foot! Some of these countries can fit entirely within the city of another country. Traveling Tips.🌄

\n

Who doesn’t like traveling? It is the most beautiful thing to do. Now a days it’s always in trend and also getting more popular day by day. Thanks to the digital world for that, but, there’s always something which you can’t learn from the digital world, yeah! Even youtube fails. Shocking, na!..
Hey, you don’t worry about it because I’m hear.

So, this blog will cover all those things which youtube can’t teach you. By the way there’s a lot of things which even though you learn from youtube but can’t replicate it in real life. See, I have got many issues with youtube but first let’s learn, what are the essential things to keep and remember while traveling?.

There’s a countless place in the world to travel and more are getting discovered.  Things like weather, people, food, transport are bound to be different but few things always goes same. For example:- There may be a difference between two beaches but safety measures always goes same. Just like that few things always goes same irrespective of the place.

This paragraph will go for the travelers who like mountains and trekking the most. For the selection of place, you must have the theoretical knowledge about that place. You can do some sort of  surveys before selection, and I would like to suggest you to check it on Quora, if you trust digital world more, otherwise face to face surveys are still the best. After doing surveys you become aware about the place and the type of situation you can have there to face. Now, make a check list for all the things you are going to need there and also to make sure you don’t leave any necessary things behind. And Before leaving your doorstep, you must double check your check list, because one more layer of protection always gives more protection. Now, first of all you should know, there’s no trip that you can actually anticipate. Some if & but will surely happen, and for that keep your mind and senses active. Now you are well aware about the place where you are heading too, so, choose your clothes according to that place, like:- for trekking you should have a trouser and a light t-shirt under a jacket (optional) and a sports shoe. Plan your number of days and pack your things according to that and, because it’s a mountain area you should keep power bank and a non digital mobile phone for just in case. Keep you bagpack light because lighter the bag, easier the trekk. If you are going for the first time on trekking go by any agency or travel company for camping for better experience. After that  for the next time you can go all alone or for a solo trip. If you don’t have any sleeping bag or tent then don’t worry you can rent out. It’s available there either at starting point or in mid way of your trekk. Always keep an extra drinking water while trekking because of two major reasons : 1) it is costly to buy drinking water up there.
2) For cleaning or getting fresh you need water up there.
Keep checking your mobile phone for network and if there’s no network turn your phone in flight mode for less battery consumption. Don’t forget to take a portable speaker with you because without music even heaven is boring. Once you reach there interact with your fellow trekk mates for some good memories and also to make your trip memorable.

If you like photography then it’s okay, but, if you not then don’t waste your time in clicking snaps. Look around and try to observe each and every details for enjoyment. The world with naked eye is still more beautiful that your high mega pixels phone camera. Try to spend some time alone there, because it’s useless if you don’t get yourself some time.

At last, there are several things you will live that I don’t want to mention here because it’s your trekk man!. Go and feel it rather then reading it. Since, i have already said that I got some issue with youtube but somewhere I go with it like for further tips you need to read my other blog regarding this, Traveling Tips 2.

Till then enjoy your trekking and don’t forget to tell your experience in the comment section, No! not about your trekk, but, about this blog..😝

See yaa.

TRAVEL INDUSTRY IN COVID-19

From the beginning of the year, the situation around the world is grave. The rise of the newly formed virus had made everyone to stay caution about every little thing. The behavior of population across the globe had changed in an instant. Major industries and firms had faced hard hit from this crisis and suffers a huge loss of turnover and profits. One such sector which is neglected completely altogether from the starting of lock down is travel and tourism. From the commencement of the pandemic had made many people to travel and reach their hometown safely, but lately this industry got completely shut, following a loss in transportation sector as well.

America’s travel industry is among the hardest hit. The U.S. travel associations projects a loss of 4.6 million jobs through May, a figure likely to increase. U.S. weekly jobless claims doubling in a week and by far the biggest spike in half a century. Tourism decline is a driving reason for job losses in states including Nevada, where Las Vegas casinos and jumbo hotels have gone dark.

To improve this situation and employment, the hotel chain has launched their project ‘We Care’ in South Asia which will focus on enhanced technology, sanitation and security efforts to fight the virus spread. “Social distancing will continue and hotels will have to gear up for the day to day operations. With corporate groups, for instance, it is expected that they will split it up into smaller regional events with 3-4 events spread out as opposed to larger events earlier. Self drive car rental company Zoom car has been focused on working with essential service providers in this time and predicts city-based travel to take off sooner. “There will certainly be a bias towards in-city trips compared to outstation ones. Also, we see a stronger focus on shorter term subscriptions. We expect 90% to be in-city rentals and 10% outstation during the post COVID time,” highlights Greg Moran, co-founder & CEO, Zoom car.

Recovery will happen, albeit at its own pace. And with travel taking its own course in a post lock down world, wanderlust will just have to take the road less traveled.

Travelling and tourism

Karina sharma

Tourism is the act of going for joy and roaming particularly in an unknown destination. Moreover, it is a sorted out adventure amid which a few spots are visited. However, tourism is not just confined to humans traveling to new locations, but the travel industry is one of the significant wellsprings of a national financial system. Tourism isn’t just a business for giving joy to and rest. It has now developed into a major industry. Consistently, a great many non-natives come to India because of which a country wins a ton of remote trade. The travel Industry makes employment increment and contributes towards enhancing the economy. Tourism has caused the development of travel organizations and tourism administrators, the foundation of lodgings and guest houses, hotels and eating houses, the creation of lavish vehicles, and presentation of super-extravagance trains and aviation routes. It has additionally energized the improvement and modernization in a country.

Tourism as an industry has been travelling with the wild pace of technological advancements and aboard are people from different places and cultures interacting with increasing ease….since, the globe had been shrunk into a village.
Unlike our predecessors, we can affordably and in a shorter time travel across the world in large numbers comparatively safe. Tourism being one of the biggest and fastest growing industries globally, its benefits and the challenges, keenly observed by governments affects the economic, socio-cultural, environmental and educational resources of nations.
The positive effects of tourism on a country’s economy include the growth and development of various industries directly linked with a healthy tourism industry, such as transportation, accommodation, wildlife, arts and entertainment. This brings about the creation of new jobs and revenue generated from foreign exchange, investments and payments of goods and services provided. Though improvements in the standard of living of locals in heavily visited tourist destinations is usually little or non-existent, inflation of the prices of basic commodities, due to visiting tourists, is a constant feature of these areas.
The nature of the world economy dictates that it’s mostly people from developed nations who travel as tourist to the developing ones, much more than do people from developing nations visit as tourist the developed ones. This results in a downward stream of cultural influences that in cases have proven to be detrimental, as they were not in cohesion with the environment, economy and culture of these hosts, who cannot in that same capacity exchange influences. For example, it is common knowledge that most tourist destinations are plagued with prostitution; this has had dire consequences for the culture, economy and health of these tourist coveted nations, but is reported to be a major boost for tourism.
The environment can be greatly affected by tourism in cases where the attraction is a vista of nature’s beauty, visits of people in large numbers could mean huge amounts of treading and pollution of materials such as plastic waste, bottles, which in the long run could be disruptive to the habitats of both faunal and floral life. Assessments into the capacity of people an area can safely bear environmentally, security and facility-wise are important in the protection and preservation of these vistas beaming with nature’s beauty. The responsibility falls on hosts, who must make it a point to inform and educate visitors on acceptable behaviours and dangers posed by going against the advised codes of conduct, such as disposing waste haphazardly.
In the quest to provide facilities for tourists the environment has been affected in other ways, large hotels and other facilities for tourists and likes consume large amounts of power in their quest to provide a long list of patrons with all the ‘hip’ electronic comforts.
The tourist themselves face several difficulties in their quest for, journey and stay in these foreign lands, such as the sometimes tiring search for visas and the duration of stay permitted by the host country. Another is security; most places because of frequent tourist visits have become targets for criminal activities such as kidnapping and terrorism.
Nonetheless in true nature of the human spirit tourism continues to be one of the fastest growing industries worldwide……..besides, what would adventure be?

Tourism is very important source of the economy in the country. However it needs investment first in order to make the tourist destinations clean, more attractive, safe, and secure for the tourists safety purpose. If we analyze the level of tourism in the country the question arises that what we do to promote tourism in our country. Do we maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene in all the villages, towns and cities of the country. It needs proper cleanliness, safety and maintenance of the tourists destinations in the country in order to promote the tourism. Only being full of historical monuments, heritages, etc do not attract tourists. Tourists see cleanliness, safety and security of the tourists destinations of any country.

Our country is worldwide famous for having attractive tourist destinations. People from all over the world come every year in a huge crowd to see the various sight-seeings. There are many big cities in India having very attractive world-class skyscrapers. Our country is the home to beautiful Taj Mahal, excellent gateway to the Himalayas, Royal Bengal Tiger, Lotus Temple, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, India Gate, Red Fort of Delhi, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutb Minar, Harmandir Sahib, Amer Fort, Akshardham, Hawa Mahal, City Palace Jaipur, Gateway of India, Mysore Palace, Meenakshi Amman Temple, Golkonda, Jama Masjid Delhi, Lodi Gardens, Siddhivinayak Temple Mumbai, Mahabodhi Temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Charminar, Lake Palace, Jantar Mantar, City Palace Udaipur, Dal Lake, Falaknuma Palace, Venkateswara Temple Tirumala, and many more.

Other tourist destinations in India are Srinagar, Shimla, Goa, Coorg, Ooty, Darjeeling, Varanasi, Mahabaleshwar, Pune, Gangtok, Imphal, Kajiranga, Kashmir, Kanyakumari, Kerala, Ajanta Ellora, Leh/Ladakh, etc. However, there are lot to be done in order to improve the prospects of tourism in India to attract more tourists to give foreign tourists a memorable experience like never before anywhere else in the world.

People from upper class Indian society generally like to spend holidays in London, New York or other swish countries however people from middle class society always enjoy tourists destinations in their own country. Our country is highly targeted as the tourist place by the people all over the world in spite of many problems that’s why travel and tourism in India needs to be promoted more.

My First Solo Trip to Nainital

Nainital, also known as the “City of Lakes,” is magnificent in every sense. The night, my train reached Bareilly, and I stepped out of the station to rent a cab to Nainital. Never had I any idea that a short trip of 3 days could change my whole perspective about traveling. I have always been fond of traveling, but Nainital was my first female solo trip, and the excitement, fear, and thrill juxtaposed all together inside my heart. But, let me tell you, even though the beautiful city is known for the lakes, it is much more than that. Nainital welcomes you with open hands, and trust me when I say this; it is one of the safest cities in India.

Now, I decided I would give you a list of activities you could do in Nainital, and none of them would burn a hole in your pocket. When I left for my solo travel, I only had 7,000 INR with myself, and I saved 3,000 INR, and I am not at all bluffing. The entire trip, excluding the train tickets, cost me 4,000 INR only. So, let’s get started on the list of activities you could do when you visit Nainital:

  • Walk around the City

One thing, I had never experienced before Nainital, was walking around a city leisurely. This was my first time alone, and I had no restrictions on me, which is pretty standard in an Indian household, especially if you are a girl. So, three years back, when I set my feet on the roads of Nainital, it was way into the night. I had my luggage with me, and no outside cars are allowed inside the city premises at night. The cab dropped me on the outskirts, and I started walking without any idea of where to go. I had not booked a hotel yet, and to be honest, I was scared to death to walk alone on the streets. But the moment I came closer to the lake of Nainital, the beauty of the night sky filled with stars, and the reflection on the still water of the lake, I forgot what fear feels like. I was mesmerized by the beautiful sight of the city, and I walked on the streets the whole night. In my opinion, this is the most affordable way to look around the city. Go out and walk around leisurely, the beauty of the town would keep you captivated for a long time.

  • Visit the Mall Road

Walking around the Mall Road was one of the most exciting activities for me. The entire road is always filled up with tourists and local people. There are tiny little shops on one side of the mall. You can buy a souvenir from one of the shops, for cheap. The Mall Road is the busiest place in the city. Every day, I used to walk down the Mall Road at least once, and talk to the people around. The people who live there are incredibly polite and friendly, and you can learn a lot about the city from them.

  • Row Boating at the Naini Lake

If you are in Nainital, you have to visit Naini Lake. The city, Nainital, is named after this particular lake. The lake’s atmosphere is vibrant in the day time, and you can also experience the beautiful silence at night time. Also, it would be best if you experienced row boating at the lake. The ticket is for 200 INR only. I would personally recommend you to visit the lake at night, too. The silence and the night sky make the lake more peaceful at that hour.

  • Visit the Mukteshwar Temple and the Rocks

After my first day at Nainital, I rented a cab with eight other tourists to visit Mukteshwar. I had heard a lot about the temple located at Mukteshwar and planned on visiting it. But, the most spectacular incident took place after I reached my destination. The Mukteshwar Temple was undoubtedly magnificent. But, I started to walk around the temple, and that’s how I found a trail to the most beautiful view I had ever seen. Rocks surrounded the entire place, and you could try rock-climbing, too. I spent the whole afternoon sitting on one of the stones, completely mesmerized by the view in front of me. I witnessed the snow-covered peaks of the mountains in front of me while sipping on a hot cup of tea. At that time, I realized how wonderful it was to be on your own, in an unknown city, with strangers.

  • Go on the Ropeway

On the last day on my solo trip to Nainital, I planned on going up on the ropeway to observe the entire city. Undoubtedly, one of the most extraordinary experiences I had in Nainital is this. You don’t want to miss out on this one. There is always a massive line of travelers waiting to board on the ropeway. It took me a good one hour to finally get my turn, but I completely forgot about pretty much everything when I did.

Nainital is immensely close to my heart. The city has given me a lot more than mere beautiful scenic sites. The town has given me beautiful memories to look back at, and it has taken away my fear of the outside world. The city made me fall in love with being alone and taking risks, even when you might face trouble. Before Nainital, I have been to multiple other cities and towns with my family, but what Nainital gifted me was more than just traveling. If you are a woman who is afraid to go solo or you are anticipating whether to take the trip alone, please do it. There is nothing freer and more peaceful about traveling at your own pace and on your own. To conclude, I would like to quote Jane Austen, “What are men to rocks and mountains?”

Unlock 1.0: Tourism Sector Dying to Say Welcome

Tourism has always been one of the first sectors to be affected whenever there is a change in a country’s economy. In a situation in which an economy is adversely affected tourism bears a major brunt. People who love to see places usually start to cut down travel budget. Coronavirus has also played a direct role in incurring loss in tourism and hospitality industry all over the world. The industry has a long chain with hotels, restaurants, travel agents, tour operators, destinations, sports and amusement venues and so forth. There is a huge reduction in the number of tourists visiting places via land, sea and air. All international and domestic airports, train stations and ports were shut during the lockdown which covered the peak seasons of tourism in India. In Unlockdown 1.0 only the domestic flights are allowed to travel only if found necessary by the authorities. Flights are not available for tourists yet. In one of its biggest challenges the Indian tourism sector faces loss upto twenty five percent this year as international travel is yet to be resumed.

According to a report of the World Travel and Tourism Council, there has been a potential job impact of the pandemic on the travel and tourism sector globally. The sector holds around 12.75% of employment in India.  Around fifty million jobs are at risk for both white and blue collar workers. There is a reduction in jobs to the tune of twelve to fourteen per cent. The Indian tourism sector incurred a revenue loss of Rs. 69,400 crores during the lockdown. The pandemic has affected all sections of the tourism industry including leisure, adventure, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, cruise. Most summer holiday bookings have been cancelled in states which attract tourists from around the world.  All hotels and travel agencies had to refund the amount paid to them, including the cancellation fee. Domestic tourism in Kerala, Rajasthan, Goa, Darjeeling and Sikkim has faced forty to fifty per cent loss. The hotel sector experienced a loss of more than sixty five per cent in occupancy since March, 2020. According to an estimate of the Indian Association of Tour Operators, hotel, aviation and travel sectors together will suffer a loss of approximately eighty five billion rupees. The official members of the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality reported that it has sought financial help from government sources for survival of the industry. It has also asked to consider a complete GST Tax-free Holiday for the tourism, travel and hospitality industry for the next twelve months, till the recovery happens.

During this difficult time, the tourism sector has decided to keep up its head high. It is also trying to devise appropriate strategies to fight against the adversity. Travel is an important part of everyone’s life. It ensures enjoyment and releases stress. If the gradual unlockdown allows tourists to fly within the country the industry will be able to revive to some extent. The revival process may start with the domestic sector which may for some time take advantage of the tourists’ inability to go international at this moment. Simultaneous opening up of hotels and homestays will be an important step. So we may have a ‘domestic first’ strategy to set the tourism ball rolling again.
