YOGURT- a fermented milk product

Yogurt is a basic fermented milk product that usually contains the basic bacterial starter cultures of Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophillus.
Although the composition of different types of yogurts changes but there is some fixed composition of fats present in them. It is important to note that all yogurts must contain at least 8.25% of solid which is not fat. The fat composition changes with the type of yogurt like full fat yogurt must contain not less than 3.25% of milk fat whereas low fat yogurt must not contain more than 2% milk fat. Also there is a category of non fat yogurt where the fat composition is even less than 0.5%.
The yogurt is basically a mixture of milk and cream which is then fermented by using a culture of Lactic acid producing bacteria. The types of milk which can be used are whole, reduced-fat, low-fat or non-fat depending on which the type of yogurt is decided. The lactic acid produced by the starter culture bacteria is basically responsible for lowering the pH of the yogurt making it acidic and tart. This finally causes the milk protein to thicken. These bacteria ferment the milk which results in the production of yogurt leads to partial digestion of the milk making it more easily digestible. In addition, these bacteria also act as a beneficial microorganisms for the human body as they act as oral-antibiotic therapy and helps in eliminating the pathogenic-bacteria from the gut and replenishing the non-pathogenic bacteria.

Ingredients of yogurt
Milk
Cream
Sweeteners (e.g. sugar, honey, aspartame, etc)
Flavorings (e.g. vanilla, coffee, etc)
Other ingredients (e.g. fruits, preserves, stabilizers such as gelatin)

Types of yogurt –

  1. Set yogurt – This type of yogurt has a jelly-like structure and texture and is incubated and cooled in a final package.
  2. Stirred yogurt – This type is less firm than set yogurt. It is incubated in a tank and final coagulum is broken by stirring before cooling.
  3. Drinking yogurt – It also has coagulum broken before cooling though very little reformation of coagulum will occur.
  4. Frozen yogurt – This type of yogurt is incubated in the same way the stirred yogurt is incubated. It has an ice-cream like texture.
  5. Flavored yogurt – In this type of yogurt, flavors are added just before yogurt is poured into pots and the sugar content present in this type of yogurt is about 50%.

General processing of yogurt

  1. Adjusting milk composition and blending all the ingredients
  2. Pasteurization of milk (at 85 degrees celcius for 85 minutes)
  3. Homogenization of milk (2000-2500psi)
  4. Cooling of milk to 42 degree celcius
  5. Inoculation with bacterial starter cultures into the cooled milk
  6. pH reduction by waiting for sometime
  7. Again cooling to 7 degree celcius
  8. Addition of fruits and flavors
  9. Packaging of prepared yogurt.

URBAN LIFE PERILS

Whenever we think about life in a metro or living in an urban area, we realise that we have everything. All that comfort, luxuries that contribute to a healthful lifestyle; opportunities, infrastructure, restaurants, big hotels, malls, hospitals and life represents progress. However, every coin has two sides, the opposite side of the concrete jungle is less than desirable. We have advanced cars but a lot of traffic and pollution; huge buildings but less open space, money and facilities but never satisfying desires, education and opportunities and more stress and depression in life. We have our McDonalds and Pizza Hut with them we have obesity, diabetes, cholesterol issues too. People work over 10 hours a day and have no time for themselves or their family. These problems are a result of an occupational hazard in cities as people are stuck in a never-ending rat-race.

In the advanced setup of an urban area, life is being run by technology, and we are all slaves to it. Our WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype has consumed most of our time and thoughts, and while we are virtually closer, we are physically farther than ever before. People are victims of impatience and lack of tolerance, and so confront emotional issues. A proper healthy diet and lack of exercise are standard characteristics of urban lifestyle. Life in a metro offers economic efficiency and a better lifestyle, but what is wealth without health?

The glamour, neon-lit nights, glitz of urban life appeals to us no doubt, but if we want the pleasure, we must take it with the pain. Everyone from a school going child to a worker to businessman is under performance pressure. We have created it for others and ourselves too. Our desires are bringing heftier bills, costs and expenses that sometimes leave us with stress. These stresses lead to diseases, and we look for gym, spas, health courses, yoga classes, and we burn more cash for the illnesses that we created for ourselves. There is less green cover in urban life and how much time do we spend with the left nature, the one we have? We have also developed a culture of isolation. We spend much time on television and on laptops. We keep ourselves distant from people around us because we love spending time with these electronics than we do with people. We isolate ourselves.

Every afternoon, evening and night, we take a fresh breeze of pollution because there is not much fresh air left. What do come comes in the morning and our late-night work, associations and morning affairs do not give us time to enjoy that either. There was a time in the 1990s and early 2000 when kids could move about one ground in an urban city and play cricket, badminton, or anything and now we don’t have space, and when they play this in colony parks, the older people send them away. There was a time when a Rs 2 Kismi bar appeared to be a delight and now the time has changed, areas are more urbanised than ever, and a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk does not satisfy an appetite. Even in an urban setting, there was a time when few had TV and people used to collect at this person’s place. Now since everyone has everything, nobody needs humans anymore.

Life in an urban city is materially incomparable; it is just great. We are part of a privileged generation which gets to live in this setting. However, we must learn the values of humans, our environment, and we must make the other side of this coin better because we are responsible for giving a beautiful urban life for generations to come.

Kerala health Minister honoured to speak at UN regarding COVID19 control

Kerala health minister played a vital role in reducing the number of COVID cases in Kerala. She responded very quickly and became very attentive. She predicted the arrival of the disease prior to the warning from WHO. She said that she processed 3 plans and executed in advance. The plan A includes the establishment of 15 COVID19 awareness centers. Plan B is of arranging 10000 beds and sending victims to quarantine. Plan C is about increasing the beds to 25000 and implementing lockdown. Kerala must have been included in one of the highest COVID case State. But due to her advanced actions Kerala became the fastest recovered state and UN recognised the efforts of health minister and her plans. They invited her to speak about her plan of action. She is the only person who is honoured to get invitation from India.

The selection of K K Sailaja in UN program is to present the Kerala model that she had adopted in the fight against COVID19. She had gained immense popularity across the international media. The UN honoured all the people who had involved in this fight against COVID19. International media had appreciated the Kerala model of COVID is more effective than other models.

The minister said that state had opened special control rooms and took precautionary measures before the actual entry of COVID to India. As soon as the state recognised 3 cases it implemented plan B. During the plan A the minister also confirmed that the they were keeping a note and observing people who came from other states and countries. Those who have symptoms have been sent to quarantine. Home quarantine had been implemented to the people who came from other states. One of the foreigners praised to the treatment and methodology used by the government was too good. The hospitality and the treatment they have is extremely warm. The foreigner was so impressed by the action of government.

The people have actively involved in health care and social welfare including the distribution of masks and sanitizers. “Whether working in healthcare or delivering essential services in the areas of sanitization, social welfare, education, postal , delivery, law enforcement and public servants globally who continued to work in the community as people shelter at home, risking their life to ensure ours can continue” WHO said in a statement.

The Kerala health minister is proud of the country. She recognised the threat in advance and took necessary precautions and honoured to speak in prestigious stage. The only Indian to be honoured with such a thing. Hope she continues this perspective in future and still be the reason for our country to feel proud of her.

Here we, Indians salute you for making our country proud.

5 Tips to Help Students Prepare for Their Careers

Set yourself up for post-graduation success pre-graduation. Your “real world” self will thank you.

Students, you’ve seen it more than once. Fellow classmates complete their degrees and then spend their first week of freedom from the library painting the town red and celebrating. Those same classmates pound the pavement the following week with their resumes, new tie, starched slacks and polished shoes – only to find rejection at every turn.

It’s sad really – four to eight years working towards their degrees, just to end up managing the night shift at McDonald’s. Don’t’ let this happen to you. Start working towards your entry-level career early in the game. Try these five proactive tips to prepare for your career and prevent an educational disaster.

1. Don’t procrastinate

One common misconception is that your professional experience starts after college. This incorrect student career advice can and will cost future opportunities. Start looking for opportunities before you graduate. Don’t automatically default to those stereotypical “college student” or minimum wage jobs. Look for work related to your major. For example, journalism students could benefit from working in a print production plant. This provides an inside look at how the business functions. Accounting students may want to work as a receptionist at the local tax office. Art history majors could volunteer or do an internship at a local gallery.

Another option is the universal, federally-supported and funded work study program. All federally accredited colleges and universities offer the work study program. This program matches students with semi-guaranteed jobs. Most of the job opportunities are located on-campus, and counselors try to pick positions closest to your field of study. Jobs offered on and off-campus typically are minimum wage or a little higher. Just be prepared for the hours, Federal law prohibits colleges from assigning more than 30-hours per week. You may need to take a supplemental job to make up the loss.

2. Expand your knowledge

Students learn multiple skills in college. Some are related to your career; others may seem less useful. Open your mind to those so-called “useless” skills. They may come in handy one day. But don’t stop there. The key is expansion. Expand your skills and knowledge. Companies look for team members with the ability to work in diverse settings. Look for courses that compliment your major. Anthropology majors can take a few business courses to increase their marketability. Photography students may want to take a few graphic design or art classes to help improve creativity and their “eye” for art.  Speak with your academic advisor for help selecting elective courses that compliment your major.

One great skill, and lost art form, is typing. Sadly, most college curriculums don’t require, or even offer, basic typing classes. Employers want team members who meet deadlines with little to no errors. If your college doesn’t offer typing classes, invest in a good typing software.

3. Stay up-to-date

While some entry-level careers are more competitive than others, all jobs require work and preparation. Staying current on technology and industry trends gives you an advantage over other applicants. Most students are more up-to-date with technology than seasoned professionals, giving them the upper hand. Those same students however, show a lack of knowledge of industry trends. Visit your college library and read professional journals each month. These provide an in-depth look at the changing landscape inside your career and will help better prepare you for what’s to come. Google offers a news subscription, customizable to any search word or phrase. Set up an automated search and receive up-to-date news alerts in your inbox each month.

Consider this piece of student career advice: learning new technology or updating your software version knowledge is just as important as industry trends. Most universities and colleges provide, and even require, students to take introductory computer classes. These classes cover basic file creation and editing, operating system quirks, word processing and basic maintenance. Take advantage of the introductory and intermediate classes. But don’t forget older software. Some companies haven’t upgraded. Read up on the last two versions of Microsoft Office, Windows OS and the standard software used in your industry. Most libraries carry technology books dating back several years. If your school or local library doesn’t have these books, Half Price Books, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com and other retailers may have older books at discount prices.

4. Pay attention in science and math class

STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers represent one of the fastest growing industries. Technology is booming, making it an oil field of wealth. While you don’t have to major in math or science to benefit from STEM revenue, learning the basics will help you understand this growing field and impress employers with your analytical side. Visit the science and math Dean’s office, and speak with a counselor. Explain to them you aren’t majoring in STEM but want to learn more about the field and gain analytical skills. They know the best classes to help you learn.

On the other hand, don’t pass up opportunities to learn the arts, including visual and performing arts. Performing arts teaches communication skills. Every professional benefits from communication, especially public speaking. These classes help build self-esteem, teach you how to overcome the fear of speaking and hopefully prepare you for various, spur of the moment scenarios. Taking arts classes (i.e. painting, ceramics, etc.) helps build creativity, teaches structure and discipline, cultivates patience and encourages students to think outside the box.

5. Don’t forget about those internships

Internships are the lifeblood of college experience. And rightly so. Nothing beats a hands-on education. Just be careful to select the right internship to help work towards your entry-level career. Academic advisors recommend forgoing those large, competitive internships during your first two years in college. Instead, put more energy into local, small business internships. These businesses need the help and often offer more real-world education than those coffee-fetching, large company versions. Google a few local medium to small-sized companies in your field. Call their human resources department and inquire whether they accept interns and what are the qualifications. Don’t forget, your professors are your greatest allies. They probably know a few good companies who will give you a shot.

It’s never too late to start

Most of this student career advice requires a few years of planning to become effective. Don’t worry though, there is still time for students getting ready to walk the stage. The first step is optimizing your resume. While it is best to plan for your future and have the ammunition ready for your resume, most skills and experience are easily rewritten. Look for transferrable skills (i.e. leadership, communication, team building, etc.) Highlight those attributes and similar accomplishments. Use strong action verbs, and draw attention to what you can achieve for the company. Treat your abilities as merchandise for sale. Make the employer want you.

Desire

There’s always a question lingering our minds, nudging our hearts even if we try to ignore them. Why don’t they want us? What is wrong with me? Am I that bad? We start to find our drawbacks.

The actual point is, it is not always about you. It is not that something is wrong with you or you did something bad. They just don’t want to be a part of your life and you didn’t drive them away from yourself. And I know that it hurts, feels like a stake in the heart. Wondering, what if you had said more or said less? If only you tried harder or never started talking. Were you aloof or more often? What if you could be the one they were looking for even if it takes you away from yourself. You only care about that person, you want them to desire you. And for this, you ruin your existing bond with them neglecting the fact that this could be better than a relationship.

Have you ever thought, “ why you want someone who doesn’t want to be with you?, who doesn’t want your true self, your authentic version.” Still you are working too hard to let them desire you! I know the answer already, “you want them and you want them so badly that you are ready to do anything to make that happen.  A sense of connection is enough to push you towards false hope that whatever it is it’s your duty to keep that alive. What if you did become that person they were seeking after? You will be with them but as a changed person. You will have to maintain that “not so yourself” personality of yours and you have to spend every minute with them not being yourself.

What we want? We want people because they make us feel complete, they fill the invisible voids in our hearts and minds. There are billions of people on this planet and the good news is you haven’t met even a fraction of them. This person may not want you but that doesn’t mean its your fault. YOU JUST CANNOT MAKE THEM WANT YOU!!!

They might have there own reasons. Maybe they have their own past horror memories. Maybe they are not able to see you intensely and appreciate you. Maybe they just have different preferences that don’t add up to you and that isn’t a sign you are broken or you need to change. It simply means that person is not interested in you out of everyone on this planet and THAT’S NOT THE END!

I know it sucks and you are allowed to feel hurt. You are allowed to cry it out. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO MAKE THIS PAIN GO! But you aren’t allowed to sink in this and make yourself depressed. You are allowed to wish that what if things were different and it’s not a crime. You have to get over it by seeing the other side and realise “ this doesn’t mean you are not worthy of love”.

You can’t make them want you but I promise one day you don’t even want them to. You will find your love or they will find you.  You have your whole life ahead of you, so why waste it on someone who is not worth you and your precious time.

‘Happy Birthday, Football Magician’: Lionel Messi is Thirty Three Today

We all know this person so very well. Today’s ‘birthday man’ is one of the greatest celebrities in the football world. We commonly know him as GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)! Yes, you must have guessed it right! Feliz Cumpleaños (Happy Birthday) to our one of the most favourite football players— Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini!!

Lionel Messi made his debut in FC Barcelona first team in 2004-2005 La Liga at just seventeen. He was the youngest player to represent FCB ever. Since then he is breaking goal records and raising the bar for the future players. He plays as a forward and is currently the captain of both FC Barcelona and Argentina National Team.

Messi was born on 24 June, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina. Having received his first ball when he was four he started playing with his elder brothers. However, just as obvious as his outstanding ability it became more apparent that he was smaller than his friends. The doctors discovered that he had a restrictive growth hormone deficiency. The expensive injections made his family left with huge costs to pay for his continued treatment. In 2000 when he was thirteen Barcelona came to his rescue and changed his life forever. Messi was invited to Spain for a fifteen-day trial. The club agreed to sign him and pay for his medical bills in a contract that was written out on a paper napkin.

Messi always has number 10 on his jerseys in both teams. He is often seen with a smile on his face and humble about his record-breaking achievements. He has enviable commitment to the game. He is the perfect example of how smaller players can use their size to their advantage. He keeps inspiring many football players around the world. His left foot is a deadly weapon when it comes to shooting goals. His razor-sharp brain with a combination of natural talent and instinct make him the attacking machine. Messi is also deceptively quick. He accelerates from the moment he picks up the ball and speeds past defenders before they are even ready to tackle him.

Messi is married to his childhood sweetheart, Antonela Rocuzzo since 2017. They have a family of three sons, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro. His favourite dog, Senor Hulk, is one of the largest French Mastiff breeds, Dogue de Bordeaux.

He has record in winning awards almost each year:

•  La Liga titles- 10

•  Ballon d’Or awards- 6

•  Best FIFA Men’s Player- 6

•  Best UEFA Player in Europe- 2

•  Golden Boot awards- 5

•  Champions League Winner- 4

•  Player of the Year- 10

•  Spanish Champion- 10

•  Spanish Cup Winner- 6

•  Spanish Super Cup Winner- 8

•  FIFA Club World Cup Winner- 3

•  Under- 20 World Cup Champion- 1

•  UEFA Super Cup Winner- 3

•  Copa America Runner Up- 3

•  Player of the Tournament- 2

•  Silver Boot- 1

•  Top Scorer- 19

•  Guinness World Records Title for the most official goals in 2012

And the list goes on and on. Thus, these all made him a legend in football.

Although Leo holds the all-time scoring records both in La Liga and Champions League he still has plenty of play left for the rest of his career. How many more goals can he score? How many more records will he make? We have to wait patiently for that. Players have some best days as they have some worst. One of the worst days in his life was not to win the FIFA World Cup in 2014. His face had shown how much disappointed he was about being the runner-up. He faced severe criticisms that the dedication he shows for his club is not found for his national team. We, his loyal supporters who watched him grow, would not disown him on that ground. It is quite possible that he tries really hard to win every game for his country but his luck does not favour him at times.

Even if Messi does not break any more record or fail to score spectacular goals every time he has already done enough for the millions of football fans.  The day will come when he will announce his retirement from football. We need not be upset. We can wish him by saying— Thanks, Leo, for all the memories!

Messi’s story proves that size does not matter. Nor can poverty come in the way of talent. Anything is possible if one is good enough to work hard with talent. Success, they say, comes out of one percent inspiration and ninety nine per cent perspiration.

The way they talk- to the overthinkers.

so, its is 10:30 pm, you are lying in your bed tossing and turning around . you sleep early because your overthinking session about each and every detail in the nook and corner of your day starts as soon as you hit your damn bed. You just can’t sleep its just impossible because without the overthinking happening and the analysis you just cant complete your day .

so you play conversations you had months ago with someone, you had said something firm may be standing up for yourself but then months later you’re replaying it again because you’re a classic over-thinker. you replay that conversation just because you thought maybe you’ve upset the guy. you think maybe you messed up or maybe u broke a part of something. you also might have talked it out just in case you know and so did it get cleared as well but you’re not convinced because the vibe was not trustable. Oh yes, vibes are a big thing that you trust by the way. he also texted back cleared and said: “I get it 🙂 “. But he never uses that emoticon. you start over-thinking again all over again.

vibes have always been a big thing for you, if you wake up and get the same that same damned vibe that you got a few days back and there was a mishap, you are convinced that the fuckening of the day might come real quick. so you get out of your bed and start replaying things which you did wrong in the last few days. classic.

well, some classic over-thinkers might agree they have this thing in them. They get overwhelmed, over-love, over-feel, well they become really sensitive, I’m calling sensitive because majorities just address this as being a cry baby. You stay in toxic relationships or shitty friendships just because you think walking away would hurt them, hence you just start sticking around and there is no decluttering. But trust me when I say this decluttering is important regardless of the fact that it might hurt them or not it is their life they’ll figure It. But also it is your life that you need to figure. You also have lived up so many imaginary scenarios which you think is absolutely normal, honestly so many scenarios that a novel could be composed out of that. You might also relate that you stare at your phone before dialling someone thinking am I bothering them, am I being too nosy or over the top. you type a text then backspace, type again then backspace, type again and backspace. Your heart starts racing when you think before picking up a stranger’s call. classic again.

well now it is 3:30 am, the thing with 10:30 pm is that it comes just a minute before 3:30 am if you are not careful haha. what started with thinking about a text message got into apologising and the worst-case scenarios and lots of shower thoughts and ended up with severe life questions.

You are still restless and tossing in your bed . The worst part of overthinking is that it gets dismissed with people just saying that:” God, you think too much, gimme a fuckin break.” And end up just giving you relentless advice on how to stop overthinking and one of the most stupidest advice. You just hope they knew that over-thinking is just not a car that you can pull a break to , its a break less cycle which if you take up a hill to stop it you might trip.

Anyway its 4:00 am now and I guess you should get some sleep and rest up, cause you gotta overthink again tomorrow.

Is Uniform Civil Code really needed ?

Uniform civil code

Uniform civil code is undoubtedly one of the most debatable topic, which can basically be derived from Indian constitution which mandates to replace personal laws based on the scriptures and customs of each major religious community in India with a common set of rules governing every citizen. Mainly their personal laws like laws of marriage, divorce , adoption , maintenance.

Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is defined in our Constitution under Article 44 of Directive Principles of State Policy. In almost India there is no state to apply these special provisions but In Goa which is the only state which has a common family law and 1954 Special Marriage Act allows any citizen to marry outside the realm of any special religious personal law.

The British Government in 1840 on the basis of Lex Loci report had framed many laws bit personal laws were left out intentionally. This era many reformers were raising voice for the for making laws against the women discrimination like sati etc. so the formation of many laws were done and they refuting themselves would result in the proper dysfunctioning ,which they knew, at the panchayat level .

Then comes the period of 1946 where B.R Ambedkar the chairman of the constitution assembly wants to regulates all these personal laws by uniform civil code but some minority groups and communities like of Muslims protested against it, As a result only one line is added in the Constitution under Article 44 in Part IV of DPSP. The main reason was minority mainly Muslims felt that minorities mainly Muslims felt that their personal laws are violated or abrogated by it.

As the secondary result of these the series of Bills were passed to codify Hindu laws in the form of Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, The Hindu Succession Act, 1956, The Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956 and the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956, are collectively known as Hindu Code Bill (covers Buddhist, Sikhs, Janis as well as different religious denominations of Hindus). On the other hand, Muslim personal laws are still primarily unmodified and traditional in their content and approach. The Shariat law of 1937 governs the personal matters of all Indian Muslims in India. It clearly states that in matters of personal disputes, the State shall not interfere and a religious authority would pass a declaration based on his interpretations of the Quran and the Hadith.

Some merits of UCC are that it applies this would keep us integrated. No one feel discriminated because he or she comes from another religion. Uniform Civil Code will provide women with the right to equality and justice in courts of law- irrespective of their religion in matters pertaining to marriage, divorce, maintenance, custody of children, inheritance rights, adoption, etc. A unified code is imperative, both for the protection of the vulnerable sections in Indian society(women and religious minorities) and for the promotion of national unity and solidarity.

Some of the demerits are that Due to diversity in India it is somewhere tough to come up with a common and uniform set of rules but our Government is trying to come up with common rules. also, In personal matters, interference of state. As the constitution provides for the right to freedom of religion of one’s choice. But with the codification of uniform rules and it compulsion may reduce the scope of the freedom of religion but altogether UCC is tough task but not impossible.

WHAT IS A LOCKDOWN?

Lockdown means, all people are supposed to stay at the place where they are, and, not to travel or go out, just, STAY AT HOME! Lockdown happens for safety measures for mass safety, all the doors are locked, no one can enter or exit.

WHY LOCKDOWN?

COVID-19 Pandemic, the reason behind lockdown in 2020, the virus was spreading rapidly and still is. Started from a single person and now spread in all around the world from person to person through droplets from the mouth and nose, when the person with COVID-19 sneezes. It also spreads by touching the already effected surface as it has the infected droplets and there is the possibility of touching our eyes, mouth or nose just after touching the infected surface.

CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC WORLDWIDE?

On 24th June 2020, there are a total of 8993659 cases of COVID-19 all around the world. Total deaths till date, 469587 deaths.

CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN INDIA?

On 24th June 2020, there are a total of 456183 cases of COVID-19 in India. Total deaths in India due to corona virus, 14476 deaths.

LOCKDOWN WAS GOOD OR BAD?

An empty mind is a devil’s workshop! THIS WAS PROVED WRONG! Every single person tried to enhance their knowledge, brushed up themselves and brought out their creative side. Few learned how to cook, some helped their mums in household works, some worked in shaping their skills well, and many more. All worked on a plethora of things, brighten up themselves. On the other hand, students learned about new things, new courses, new topics, which will be fruitful for them in their upcoming future.

COMEBACK OF MYTHOLOGICAL SHOWS! All Indian parents, at least once have told their children about the iconic shows they have watched in their childhood; THE RAMAYANA and THE MAHABHARATA. These two were the most famous shows of the ’90s. On Sunday, when the shows were telecast, roads used to be empty, everyone was found sitting in front of the television for watching the show. Some people used to believe that the actors playing the role of God were actually the real god and used to worship them. The devotion was so pure! At the time of lockdown, these shows were re-telecast, and, this was so hard to believe that children of this generation were even more interested in watching these iconic shows rather than watching movies or web series, The Ramayana got the highest Trp.

BEST TIME FOR ENJOYING THE MOMENTS WITH FAMILY. While working, we get time very often, lockdown resulted as a gift as this was the right time spend more and more time with our families, to enjoy with them, for having long conversations, and be with our loved ones.

FINANCIAL ISSUES! We all fight with the world, just for money as it is the key to good living. For food, we need money, for clothes, we need money, for the house, we need money, for everything, money is mandatory. Lockdown didn’t affect the rich but was a curse for the poor. The migrant labours, vendors, the daily wage workers, they all were deeply affected by this, they did not even have food to eat, place to live, their life was equal to hell! Not only labours, few television actors too faced a financial crisis as they were not paid.

STUCK IN OTHER CITIES. In India lockdown was announced on 24th March 2020, for 21 days, but, it increased further because of the continuous increase in positive cases. Not everyone got the chance to be with their families, no one was allowed to travel, many people were stuck in other cities and were not able to go to their hometown, few were in other countries.

Depiction of Krishna of Jayadev’s Gita Govinda in Basohli Paintings

Jayadev’s Gita Govinda

Gita Govinda is a medieval literary work by the famous poet Jayadev in the 12th century CE. It is a medieval time musical work composed. Jayedev became the court poet of the Sen King Lakshaman Sen of Bnegal (1175-1200 CE) and wrote the Gita Govinda in c. 1178-1205 CE.
In Gita Govinda, Jayadev describes the love of Radha and Krishna with intense devotion and makes the love of the God a reality to the man, i.e., the pure love of Krishna for Radha. Also, it describes the love life of the Krishna with the other gopis
or the cowherd maidens of Vrindavan, apart from Radha. While Radha is not mentioned in the Bhagwat Purana till the 10th
century but in the 12th
century, Jayadev celebrates the love of Krishna and Radha in his composition Gita Govinda.

The aspect of Raasleela has been shown as well as romanticised by Jayadev in his literary creation. Raasleela is a term used to describe the event when Krishna used to play and dance with the gopis and Radha mostly at night. Time and again, this aspect became an important component of the Krishna Bhakti or Vaishnava Bhakti traditions. It is too said that it was from the Raasleela that the north Indian dance form Kathak has been derived subsequently.

This painting depicts how Krishna is surrounded by the Gopis and how he is moving in a
slow pace with them. He is most probably entertaining or
womanising while wandering around with them willingly.

The entire work of Gita Govinda has been divided into various chapters, each of them
containing a group of eight couplets that has been termed as the Ashtapadis. In this great work, one can find the 12 moods of Lord Krishna and also the
Dashavatar of Lord Vishnu, that associates this literary work to the Vaishnav sect.

Jayadev’s songs continue to be sung throughout the Indian landmass describing the
devotional adoration of Krishna.
Moreover, this great Sanskrit poem is sung in the temples as a prayer of great beauty and
power of Lord Krishna. To add to the facts, in the temple of Lord Jaggannath in Puri, Odisha
this entire work of Gita Govinda is recited before the main deity.

Gita Govinda provided the artist a material of beautification of the themes of each chapter to
be depicted in his respective subject like dance, drama, paintings and theatre. As a result, it too became an important work to be painted under the various art forms of the hilly region including the Basohli art form.

Basohli Paintings

The Basohli paintings originated at Basohli region of Jammu and Kahmi. This style emerged due to the intermingling of the folk art of the hills with the Mughal art styles Basically, the dressing style is depicted with Mughal art influences whereas the facial formula is having an impression of the local folk art.

And as far as the Gita Govinda is concerned in Basohli paintings, Gita Govinda was painted by the artist Manaku in 1730 CE under the patronages of the princess of Basohli – Malini. Altogether , it was found that Raja Kirpal Singh patronised the Basohli Paintings.

Features- These paintings are featured by the style of using primary colours vigorously (Randhawa,1959) and these paintings have a brick red border, flat monochrome background with the characters, having comparatively large eyes. Also, these painting styles too had a close resemblance with the Mughal painting styles;more specifically the Jahangiri influences can be seen in this art style.

Poet Jayadev worshipping Radha and Krishna,Paper, Basohli Painting, 1730 CE,
National Museum, New Delhi
Analysis
The poet Jayadev is worshipping Radha and Krishna with great devotion in this painting. As
mentioned above, the Basohli tradition of art is remarked by the use of hot and vigorous
colours. In the above painting, impression of hot colours has been depicted. A colour
combination of yellow, orange, brown and red and their shades have been vibrantly used. The
artist Manaku has shown Radha and Krishna both wearing heavy ornaments. The background
is monochrome in depiction. Also, the trees are one of the major elements in this painting
style and hereby a tree can be spotted out here that’s a predominant object in this painting.
The border is made of bold red colour with a brown inner boundary in the painting.

As the ending note, it can be said that the paintings as a part of the Indian traditions, too tried to depict the Bhakti movement. For
instance the Basohli paintings depicted the Vaishnav Bhakti while defining the intricate
nature of Lord Krishna under the various themes of Gita Govinda. And Krishna is considered
to be one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Subsequently, the themes that the artists tried to
depict on the paintings patronized by the ruler of that time somewhere relates to the belief system of the society. Also for some political causes too, the ruler is keenly interested to patronise their culture and religion through the paintings made, thus.

Packaged fruit juices:Misleading Covenant and housing carcinogens!

Packaged fruit juices are available in a variety of flavours and can be consumed alongside your breakfast in the morning. They can be a life saver some days and can refresh us up during the scorching heat, it can be accompanied alongside chips during a party or you can just enjoy a nice glass of fresh juice from a tetra packet along with your own company.

But did you know the amount of sugar along with preservatives and synthetic food colouring it has in it, this can actually make it a not so healthy drink after all. Even though it claims to have no preservatives, no food colouring and no added flavour it still isn’t as healthy as it is shown in the colourful and vibrant advertisements and houses carcinogens.

Many of us tend to rely on packaged juices as in this fast and sedentary life they make our lives hassle free especially when you are on the go and it’s a quick fix as we all know the lengthy and tedious process of making  a cup of mixed fruit juice is not so easy.

All of these fruit drinks aka juices are loaded with sweeteners and sugars, specially for diabetics consuming packaged juices is a big no. Even non-diabetics should abstain themselves from consuming them as they will definitely shoot up you blood sugar levels. It has high level of corn and fruictose syrup which makes it very sweet.

Unlike fresh fruit juices packaged fruit juices hardly contain any nutrients and hence are not very beneficial. Packaged juices have a high calorie content and they can add up a few kilograms to your body weight in no time. Even though it claims that it contains no added flavours  and no concentrate and only contains fruit juice, well this is absolutely not true at all.

Most of these fruit juices are made from dried leftover fruits and are converted into juices using heat, one can just imagine what they are adding to our bodies by consuming these sugary drinks.

These sweet drinks make us crave for more food as they increase our hunger pangs and we consume more juices and food items leading to weight gain and much more, one can clearly say we are at loss here.

Packaged fruit juices lead to teeth decay, cavities and damage our enamel layer which is not beneficial at all, the reason behind this is the high sugar levels present in the juices. They can be even more harmful than candies and toffees.

I greatly feel that one should definitely think ten times before buying these packaged juices from the markets, its our health which is at stake. As doctors rightly say an apple a day keep the doctor away one should eat their fruits, specially the seasonal ones, taking out some time and having a fresh cut fruit or making a glass of fresh fruit juice is better than consuming packaged fruit juices.

It’s all good until you are Breathing.

The meaning of “LIFE” is incomplete without worries. We try really hard to get out of a situation where we don’t feel comfortable at all. The more we try, the more anxious we appear. This does not mean, you should not try, but what you should be more concerned about is the consequences. Every human on the globe is somehow worried about some of the other aspects. Worries may depend from person to person and of course the financial condition. People from below the poverty line are starving, while some people are worried about what dish they will get for dinner. Some are giving pain to themselves by cutting wrists, while some don’t even have hands. Some are attempting to suicide just due to stress, whereas some eagerly want to survive but are hospitalized or coping with the illness. Some were relieved after passing in semesters exams while a girl lost her scholarship. It’s necessary to admit and analyze the worries. The point is everything is smooth until you are living. Everyone will notice your existence, once you stop existing. There ain’t any massive topic more than your life. We can actually train our brains to think slightly differently. Taking stress, being worried, will only result in forehead layers and it won’t affect the root or the cause of the trouble.

Being Practical and Sensible!

While traveling on a local delayed train, the passengers usually come up with a discussion speaking about the time and arrival of the different trains or making perceptions about the actual delay. We just assume things, make perception. Ya, it’s true what else you could have done sitting inside, what is the result of such discussion. If we have the will to improve then why don’t we do something productive and contribute? The point is at some point I think it’s necessary to be more logical.

Psychological tricks.

  • Developing a realistic understanding of control- Analyze the situation whether it can be controlled or not. This means what’s within your control and what’s not. If you think it’s controllable then make sure you believe in it too.
  • Schedule duration for worry- People usually visit therapy to avoid worrying. But they want it done to be real quick. Issues like this don’t have a pill or some magic tricks that will let this go right away.

This may sound funny but it actually helps. We can not schedule time like just 15 mins to worry throughout the whole day, but we can train our brain. Make sure the scheduled time isn’t before going to bed otherwise you won’t get a nap thinking about the worries.

  • Becoming mentally stable- There are many factors that we can not control like how someone should behave, how someone should feel for you, and much more. That’s the bitter truth. Being mentally strong and reaching greater peaks is a characteristic of a healthy mind. When you end bothering about things you can’t control, you’ll have more energy and vitality to assign to the things you do have management over.
