Life skills : overcoming challenges of life

Throughout our lives, we have different experiences. Some good, others not so good. It is certain to go through a period of personal crisis or to face acute pressure at some point of time. Many people sail through tough times easily while many others have a hard time doing so.
It has been observed that the people who are good at overcoming life challenges have certain set of characteristics. These are called ‘life skills’. Life skills are basically the abilities that an individual possess which helps him/her to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.

These abilities often depend on how well we are prepared to deal with everyday demands. There are various practices on the part of a person which can enhance his/her life skills and lead toward a better life.
The first and foremost is to get rid of unhelpful practices. Procrastination, for instance, is a habit of putting off what we can do today. In this process we actually create a ton of work for ourselves which acts as a stressor later on. Another unhelpful habit is Perfectionism. Here the person tries to be perfect and therefore cannot relax like others. These habits are a reason of daily hassles. Time management is also very important. Learning to mange your time helps to reduce the pressure on us. The way people spend their time determines the quality of their lives.

Another life skill is self care. When we are healthy and relaxed, we are both physically and mentally prepared to face challenges and succeed in doing so. A healthy and balanced diet gives more energy, improves immunity and circulation and can lift one’s mood. When we are stressed we tend to eat comfort foods which are high in fats and sugar. The key to healthy living is to eat three meals a day with well balanced diet. Exercising is also beneficial when it comes to health. Stretching exercises have a calming effect. Regular exercising not only helps in physical fitness but also have a positive effect on reducing stress, tension etc.

An important life skill is rational thinking. There is a saying that “our thoughts determine our reality”. It is very true indeed. Many stress related problems arise due to our distorted thinking. What we think is connected to what we feel, therefore it is very important to have a positive attitude and positive thinking. Optimism plays a key role in this. Optimists tend to believe that problems can be overcome successfully and perceive problem as challenge instead of a threat. This sort of thinking helps in driving away negative thoughts. Other positive habits are sense of responsibility, acceptance, tolerance, humour etc.
Lastly, having sound relationships is also a life skill. Having people you can turn to during your low time helps to bounce back faster. Emotional support given by friends or family members can help an individual during tough times. The key to sound relationships is communication. Conveying what you feel and accepting what others feel is the basis of sound relationships.

CLIMATE CHANGE – A CONCERN FOR ALL

One of the biggest problems that the whole world is facing right now is Climate Change. It has affected everything and everyone from Nature to Plants Animals, Natural, and Man-Made Things, and Living things most importantly. Although this Climate Change is created by us, i.e., Human Beings, due to the activities to do and we take climate change for granted, we take it so lightly and do not know its consequences. Climate Change includes both Global Warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases and resulting in large-scale shifts in weather patterns. In simple words, it means a change in temperature and rainfall.
A report by NASA stated that Earth’s surface is warming and many of the warmest years on record have happened in the past 20 years.
Human Activity is the main cause of climate change. The way we do the activities, we never look at the factors that can affect other things by what we do.
Increasing pollution and global warming are the major cause of climatic change which human beings have evolved. It has eventually increased so much that we cannot stop it easily. To stop this, we need to take many brave steps and be aware of everything around us. Other factors that cause climatic change and increase in the Earth’s temperature are listed below:-
       ~ Burning of fossil fuels
       ~ Cutting down rainforests
~ Release of greenhouse gases produced through human activity
~ Depletion of quality of air
~ Ozone layer depletion and so on.
Global Warming is the major cause of climate change. Now, what global warming is? Global warming is the long-term heating of Earth’s climate system observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere. The term is frequently used interchangeably with the term climate change, though the latter refers to both human- and naturally produced warming and its effects on our planet. It is most commonly measured as the average increase in Earth’s global surface temperature.
Climatic conditions like changes in temperature and rainfall also may influence the transmission pattern of many diseases, such as water-related or water-borne diseases such as diarrhea, and vector-borne infections such as malaria. Also, climate change may affect the patterns of food production, which in turn can have health impacts. Climatic changes also affect living organisms’ daily lives, whether human beings, animals, flora, and fauna. It affects the farmer when there is heavy rain or no rain, animals have to migrate if it is raining, and many die due to the temperature rise and so on.
Everything has its causes, effects, and solutions. So here are some solutions to reverse climate change- Refrigerant Management: which means refrigerators, air conditioners contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) which were the key culprits in depleting the Ozone layer; Wind Turbines: Fossil fuels sidelined zero-emission wind energy during the mid-twentieth century.

effect of covid-19 on environment

The global pandemic Covid-19 has affected every aspect of human lives whether it be mental health or physical environment. The government took several measures to halt the spread of this lethal virus. The slowdown of economic activities had a significant impact on the environment. The outbreak of the disease first emerged in December 2019 after which WHO declared it as an International Public Health Emergency and declared covid -19 as a global pandemic. The virus is spread from person to person through direct contact like as sneezing, talking, and coughing. This virus resulted in the death of millions and many more were infected. For breaking the chain and controlling the death rate, the movement of people was restricted and many countries saw nationwide lockdowns. Overall, The pandemic wreaked havoc on the global economy, affecting the environment directly or indirectly.

ADVANTAGES-As factories, transportation, and businesses have closed, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions dropped dramatically. Many countries recorded a nearly 50% drop in nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide. Nitrogen oxide is released from burning of the fossil fuels and around 80% comes from motor vehicle exhaustion. According to reports the nitrogen oxide level and PM2.5 level dropped by 70% in Delhi, the capital of India. People were able to breathe more clean and fresh air during the Covid-19 lockdown. Before lockdown, the industrial waste was directly dumped into the rivers without proper treatment resulting in water pollution. But during the lockdown, the industries causing major pollution were closed, which resulted in the reduction of pollution loads. Rivers were cleaner and there was a huge drop in sewage and industrial effluents. The reduced industrial activities, vehicle movement, and construction work resulted in the reduction of noise pollution. In Delhi, the noise level was reduced by around 40-50%. During this time people witnessed the chirping of birds which is not usual in the capital. The lockdown also reduced soil and marine pollution.

DUMPING OF FACE MASK DIRECTLY IN OCEANS

DISADVANTAGES-But, since the outbreak of Covid-19, there has been an increase in the global medical waste generation which poses threat to health and the environment. For prevention, people use a face mask, hand gloves, and other safety equipment which results in an increase in healthcare waste. These equipment are the sources of increase in microplastic level in the environment. Some equipments are directly dumped into oceans posing a threat to marine life. However, with proper management of waste, environmental pollution can be reduced.

CONCLUSION-The epidemic is harming human lives and the global economy, which in turn is affecting the environment and climate. It reminds us of how we have ignored environmental components while enforcing human-caused climate change. Furthermore, COVID-19’s global response encourages us to act together to resist the threat to humanity. Though the environmental benefits of COVID-19 are short-term, a concerted and time-bound effort can increase environmental sustainability and preserve the planet from the ravages of global climate change.

Covid-19: let’s see what’s going to be.

Some experts are also with the opinion that it could become the dominant strain in most of the parts of the world.

Okay, let’s keep this aside but do you think that this unlock would give us the better results, I’m neutral here as, the economy of the India is important I know it’s important but the lives of our Indians is the most important thing. Giving it a basic trail if you’ve have heard about those individuals and who were so happily living their lives who used to sing, dance, cook and etc etc. But after a few days they were no more you might heard it from your parents from your relatives from your friends that, that particular guy isn’t here with us he/she died due to covid and even when they were treated with the best medicines, from our best doctors but we all know from where does it started so let me tell you being careless about this pandemic would make you sit on the bed, so let me tell you my experience around 5-6 days ago me and my friend we were going for a morning walk and he removed his mask saying that he’s strong he won’t be having covid. I mean guys we have to be honest with ourselves that are we giving our best ladies and gentlemen please take care of yourselves:

Make sure you are wearing a proper mask.

Make sure you are washing your hands.

Make sure you are done with your doses (vaccination)

Make sure you are not going outside without any need.

Make sure you and your family are safe. And our nation is your family too.

Take care of yourselves covid is not gone yet.
