There has been talk that who will be declared the winner if final match  ends in a draw or tie. Ahead of the start of WTC in 2018, ICC has said that if final end a draw or tie, the the trophy will be shared and in its latest media statement, it maintained the same stance.

Pitch Report – As informed by the head groundsman, Simon Lee, the pitch for WTC final will have pace, bounce and carry due to ‘a lot of sun’ in Southampton. It is likely to favor swing bowling for the initial two days and might assist the spinners on the final two days of the test match.

EL CAPITAN DEPARTS

Sergio Ramos, one of Real Madrid’s most accomplished players, has bid an emotional farewell to the Santiago Bernabeu club after 16 years in which he played 671 times and won 22 titles. Only two players in history have scored more Champions League final goals (neither is a defender like Ramos), and no one has led Real Madrid to European Cup or Champions League success as many times (three) as this Sevilla native. A natural force is now ready to leave his club.

ACHIEVEMENTS– Sergio’s career is decorated with trophies and records both at the club and international level. He is 2004 U-19 Europe Cup champion(Spain), 2010 FIFA World Cup Winner(Spain), two times Europe Cup Champion(Spain). At the club level, with Real Madrid,he is four times Champions League winner, five times Spanish Champion, two times Spanish Cup winner, four times Spanish Super Cup winner, four times FIFA Club World Cup winner, and three times UEFA Supercup winner. His €27 million transfer from Sevilla to Madrid in 2005, when he was 19 years old, remains a record fee for a Spanish youth. Ramos has scored in 17 straight Liga seasons, a Liga record for a defender. Ramos is one of only a few defenders to have scored in two different European Cup finals, and he is the only one to have done it during the UEFA Champions League era. . He is LaLiga’s top goalscoring defender of all time(68 goals). Ramos has been named to the FIFPro World11 eleven times, a defender record and the third-most all-time. He has also been included to the UEFA Team of the Year nine times, a defender record and the third-most of any player. Ramos has also been voted La Liga’s Best Defender a record five times, as well as a member of the La Liga Team of the Season in 2015–16. Ramos is the most capped player in the history of the Spanish national team, and he is the country’s eighth-highest all-time goalscorer. He also holds the record for most international victories for Spain, having won 131 games. These records can show his importance for the team both at national and club level.

SERGIO RAMOS LAST MATCH IN REAL MADRID JERSEY

WHY HE IS LEAVING-Ramos requested a new two-year contract to stay in Madrid, but Los Blancos president Florentino Perez was unwilling to break his policy of only offering one-year contracts to players beyond the age of 30. Conversations between Perez and Ramos had been going on for a year and had lasted into June. However, neither party was willing to make a concession. He is no longer the man he once was at the age of 35. Injury has badly affected his season, particularly in the second half, and Luis Enrique has decided to keep him out of Spain’s team for Euro 2020. The club tried its best to convince Ramos to stay for one year but it was too late.

FUTURE– Despite his age, Ramos is one of the world’s top defenders. A number of prominent European clubs are still keeping an eye on Ramos, who will be available on a free transfer. According to reports, the Premier League three of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City are interested in bringing Ramos to England. Paris Saint-Germain, another French powerhouse, has been connected with the defender. These are the only clubs which will be able to handle the Spaniard’s reported €12million annual salary demands. Everyone, including Real Madrid’s fans are curious to know about his next destination

MALARIA

                                MALARIA

Malaria can be fatal disease for human beings. Approximately 300 million people around the world get infected with malaria every year. More than 2 million people die every year due to malaria disease.

Malaria is caused by a protozoan parasite Plasmodium. This disease   spreads through the bite of an insect vector- the female Anopheles mosquito feeds upon plant juice.

The name Malaria was proposed by Macculochin 1827. C.L.A. Laveran in 1880, a French physician, discovered the Malarial parasite –  Plasmodium  in the blood of a malaria patient. He received Nobel prize for this discovery in 1907.

SYMPTOMS-

Main symptoms of malaria include headache, nausea, muscular pain and high fever. Each malarial attack is of 6 to 10 hours duration and consists of the three stages:

1.    Cold stage, feeling of extreme cold and shivers

2.    Hot stage, high fever, faster respiration and heartbeat and

3.    Sweating stage, i.e., due to profuse sweating, temperature of the body goes down to normal.

Even after the patient is cured of malaria, the patient feel weak and becomes anemic. Malaria may also secondarily cause enlargement of spleen and liver. Presence of malarial parasite can be checked by blood test.

PREVENTION-

Malaria is an infectious disease. It can spread from an infected person to a healthy person (host) by the bite of female Anopheles mosquitoes (vectors). The only way to prevent malaria is to take precaution against mosquito bites.

We can protect ourselves from the bite of mosquitoes by following methods:

1.    Wire- gauge should be used on doors and windows of houses to prevent entry of mosquitoes.

2.    Insect- repellents (e.g., Odomos) should be used to prevent mosquito- bite.

3.    One should sleep under mosquito nets.

4.    Mosquito larvae can be killed by sprinkling kerosene oil on large- sized water bodies. Some larvivorous fishes such as Gambusia, minnows or trouts or birds (e.g., ducks) can be introduced in water bodies. These animals feed on mosquito larvae and hence the population of mosquito is checked. This is called biological control of mosquito.

5.    Adult mosquitoes can be killed by spraying insecticides (e.g., BHC, malathion) on the walls of human dwellings. Insecticides are chemical poisons (toxicants), hence, regulation of mosquito population by them is called chemical control. The insecticide DDT is not used in the chemical control of mosquitoes, as it persists in the environment for much longer time and can cause toxicity by accumulating in the body of fishes, birds and humans through food chain.

6.    The breeding grounds should be destroyed. Thus, the ditches, puddles or swamps around human dwellings should be drained or filled. We should not allow the collection of water in any uncovered containers such as water tank, pot, cooler, flower pot, discarded tires, etc.

Ø Recently Allan Porter and his team produced a genetically engineered aquatic bacteria at National Institute of Singapore. When mosquito larvae feed on these bacteria, they get killed by the toxic substance produced by these bacteria. This can prove to be an effective biological control method against malaria.

CONTROL-

A drug named Quinine, which is extracted from the bark of Cinchona tree, is used to treat a person suffering from malaria. This drug kills most of the stages of malarial parasite. There are certain other drugs (medicines) which should be taken on the advice of doctor. Scientists are trying hard to develop an antimalarial vaccine.

Ø Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow has developed an anti- cerebral malaria drug called – Arteether. This drug is extracted from a herbaceous plant Artemisia annua belonging to family Asteraceae.

Love and relationships

Love the most complicated yet simple word in pronunciation. This is the word we have heard millions of time. And also have spoken multiple times. Now If we define love what would be it?. Something which give you happiness and pleasure is love. The person with whom you are happy and know that he or she can make you happy everytime.

Today we are talking about love in relationships. Relationships one more complicated word. And in actual relationships are complicated. The start of every relationship is from I think the word love. In most cases this is not love. How can you just a say person you saw ? That’s what is like not love. And we assume it as love and enter into relationships that are going to end soon.

May be with the passage of time you eventually fall or may be you dont. The situation is worst when one and the other doesnot. This is what we call DEVDAS stage. Person in Stage of singing TADAP TADAP KE IS DIL SE AAG NIKLTI RAHI.. And he feels all sad songs. Ohh damn this is so good and it was written for me.

Relationships are never smooth. Have you ever seen any marriage smooth? So how can be a relationship smooth? Your relationship can only be successful if you both understand each other. How you can run your vehicle? Sounds like marriage yaa it is. But the roots of both are same. Trust and understanding.

Every relationship is different in its own and you dont need a LOVE GURU for it. Follow what your heart says and everything is best then. Sometimes expert advice can ruin your life. Use your mind. #kbhi toh istmal kro.. and #phle istmal kro fir vishwas kro. 🤣🤣🤣.. Sorry for the joke.

Caregiving In A Pandemic: Mental Health Challenges For Parents

Parenting has never been an easy job. This Parenting Month, UNICEF USA highlights the importance of mental health support as parents carry an even heavier load than normal.

After more than a year of the pandemic, parents and caregivers continue to struggle to keep children learning and their families functioning, often in the face of worsening poverty. Parents are forced to balance their responsibilities for child care and employment, with a disproportionate burden placed on women. “COVID-19 and its socio-economic consequences have piled new forms of stress onto parents and exacerbated pre-existing vulnerabilities and adversity within families,” says Paloma Escudero, UNICEF Director of Communications. The repercussions contribute to a devastating mental health crisis affecting families and young people. To meet those needs, UNICEF has made UNICEF mental health a 2021 global advocacy priority

In a recent Congressional briefing on mental health hosted by UNICEF USA, Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) stressed that “the Lancet Commission estimated 15 to 23 percent of children around the world live with a parent with a mental disorder.” Children can only thrive and flourish when they feel safe and protected, when family, caregiver and community connections are stable and when their basic needs are met. This makes our work to reimagine the future for every child even more urgent, and we cannot do it without reimagining parenting.

Evidence-based parenting programs, mental health services for parents and family-friendly policies are proven accelerators to drive change across multiple child life outcomes. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of nurturing care and parenting in fulfilling the rights of every child.

As U.S. government leaders seek ongoing ways to provide COVID-19 support and relief, greater access to mental health services and psychosocial support for children, youth and their families must be a priority both in the short- and long-term.UNICEF is also calling on governments and businesses to invest in scaling up parenting programs and family-friendly policies to build more resilient, prosperous and fair societies

UNICEF USA has proudly partnered with the organization ZERO TO THREE to advocate for family-friendly policies. These policy solutions include investing in quality, accessible and affordable child care; paid leave; early head start programs; infant and early childhood mental health care; and economic security and family support. As UNICEF Executive Director, Henrietta Fore has said: “To truly be ‘For Every Child,’ you have to also be ‘For Every Parent,’ and that means making sure parents have the time necessary to provide their children with a nurturing and loving environment upon which their learning, emotional and social development depends.”

UNICEF USA staff member Fabienne Goldgaber, became a new parent during the pandemic. One of the biggest takeaways from her personal experience was learning to ask for help and giving herself the grace as a new mom trying to figure things out. “About a month after I gave birth, I experienced mild postpartum depression. I had to really focus on my mental health once I recognized what was happening … I knew I had to find time to make me happy in order to give my daughter what she needs and part of that included reaching out to my therapist. More support in terms of mental health is needed for new parents, and parents in general, especially after giving birth. Whether it’s the first, second or third [child], it’s still a transition and adjustment.”

Now more than ever, we need to reimagine the support we give to parents so that they have the time, resources and services to give children the best start in life. UNICEF Parenting continues to grow and serve as a trusted reference point for parents around the world, especially in navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.Speak out

Call on Congress to address the need for increased investment in mental health and psychosocial support for children in global programs as well as for children in the U.S.

10 Things I Wish I Knew in the Start Of IT Career

Pandemic has had drastic effects on the world economy leaving many people jobless, but the IT industry has stood the storm quite well. It has been one of the few most stable fields. The thrashing effects of COVID-19 do not seem to be even touching the IT industry as it is rapidly growing and is all set to hit close to $6 trillion by 2023.

The pace of IT market growth is quite impressive. It is presumed that the IT outsourcing market seems to be growing from a figure of $342.9 billion in 2020 to $410.2 billion by 2027, which is unimaginably high in such a condition of global economic crisis.

This begs for the need for more IT experts in the field and it seems to grow from 24 million currently to over 28.7 million IT experts and developers by 2024. If you’ve responded to this need and want to start a career in IT, here are some aspects of the job, and the learning curve leading up to it, you should be aware of.

Essentials You Should Know Before Starting a Career in IT
Being a beginner at anything can be frustrating. You might be unsure about every single step you take or lack help in choosing a career, programming language, or devising a learning plan.

Following is an account of 10 things that might sound so simple to many IT experts but weren’t so obvious at the start of their IT career.

Focus on Practice-Based Learning
Beginners often place too much emphasis on theory, while programming is a kind of practical skill. So, ensure you’re focusing on the practical part, coding itself. So when you are choosing programming learning sources, keep in mind code practicing availability. Here we have the top five online programming courses and platforms where you can find such courses:

Codecademy
Codecademy is an effective online resource with professional guidance to start off with basics. But make sure to practice the concepts yourself, as their course lacks the practical part to some extent.

Stanford Online
Stanford Online has an excellent number of introductory courses with many teaching assistants that help students understand the Basics of IT thoroughly.

Udacity
Udacity has many courses launched for individuals, for businesses and even government. It offers an extensive learning archive and the assistance of the mentors. Which is quite helpful to learn programming languages.

Codegym
Codegym Java course contains 1200+ practical tasks. It starts with the basics, Java Syntax, and logically moves to the complicated learning. The best part is that 80% of the learning process is based on practical assignments, which helps you grasp programming quite well.

EdX
Tonnes of tutorials on edX help build the useful concepts that every programmer requires to start his career in IT, especially programming.

Communicate
Newbies lack experience and don’t consider seeking guidance from experts. Make sure that you aren’t one of those beginners.

Joining communities such as Stackoverflow, Reddit, CodeRanch and others don’t only have you covered for expert advice and guidance, but also provide you a sense of moral support. Create your account on Github, read and comment on HackerNews and freeCodeCamp… Look for different communities!

You can interact with your fellows who’re facing the same situations, being able to relate to someone else’s progress helps a lot with releasing stress.

The communities have thousands of IT experts with years of hands-on experience who can show you the actual picture of many situations and keep you from taking wrong turns as you head towards your goals.

Here are a few resources you can browse for advice and support:

Develop a Habit of Good Research
Never try to save your time on research. Google is a whole world of information. Superficial skimming about a certain topic won’t help you at all. But do it in moderation, otherwise you risk burying yourself in a heap of informational waste. So, build a habit of diligent research.

Stick to Basics at the Start
Practice is essential no doubt, but you won’t be able to practice without solid base knowledge, so go step-by-step and do not skip learning the fundamentals of programming first before moving on to the concepts of higher complexity. This way learning complicated levels would be easier. Skipping the basics is just like skipping the alphabet and directly heading towards writing a whole essay.

Learn Several Programming Languages
Many beginners stick to one programming language only and deem it sufficient, while others think that learning many of them at once is a good idea. But both of them are wrong.

Taking the right decision regarding what languages to learn and how to order them is important. Do not try to stuff your brain with many languages at a time, though settling for just one programming language for the rest of your career isn’t good either.

Take it in a sequential order, and start from Java, for example. It has a robust structure that helps you develop a very thorough understanding of how programming actually works. After that, grasping other languages won’t be that hectic for you.

Be Open for Changes
Working with a “know-it-all” attitude doesn’t work well with an IT career. No matter how long you’ve been in the field or how well you have trained yourself at it, there’s always a lot to learn about programming as this field is one of the fastest-growing ones. Growth comes with several changes and innovations.

As the programming field is growing daily, do not try to be stubborn about your concepts, never step out of the way of learning. Keep learning new things and stay up-to-date and well informed to the maximum possible level. Because obviously, you don’t want to be somebody with old-school technical knowledge. You need to keep up the pace if you wish to stay in the race!

Organize Yourself
Being a mess can end you up with a mess! And here, mess refers to those unorganized working patterns. Being unorganized can generally be disastrous to not only your work but to your mental health as well. No doubt what you do is important but how you do it is equally important.

Being a programmer and unorganized would only increase your pressure reducing your efficiency. Organize your projects, set reminders, make schedules for yourself accordingly and make sure to follow them. Without schedules all you do is waste your time, ending up all stressed out and frustrated.

Focus on Fewer Things at a Time
Some people can’t help thinking about things they are not doing and need to do while doing other things. Similarly, other people tend to commit to more than one task at a time. They wonder if this might be a good way to increase efficiency levels.

But unfortunately, the reality is the other way around. Trying to handle more than 1 task at a time will just end up messing up all the tasks you’re trying to accomplish. Try to focus on one of your goals, whether it’s a project or learning a programming language, everything takes a lot of individual focus and attention to be accomplished quite well.

Fight the Obstacles
The most heart-breaking part is to see talented people giving up as they see obstacles coming their way.

Don’t give up no matter what, believe in yourself and your potential energy that can help you fight every single obstacle. No matter how hard things might get in your way, be ready to face it. And in no time you’ll gain confidence that will make you simply unstoppable in the field.

Relax and Enjoy Your Work
People say that if you love your work, you don’t work a single day in your life. You’re just having fun every day. And no professional can be good at their work unless they love it and are passionate about it. Similar is the case with IT professionals, no doubt this requires long hours of focus. But the day you fall in love with what you do, you definitely will not want to stop and programming would be your favorite piece of cake.

So, just relax and do not stress yourself about things that get frustrating in the beginning. Just love your work and things will start getting a lot better in just no time.

Conclusion
These 10 recommendations have been deduced by many experts to help newbies see a bigger picture at the start to understand things better and not take steps they might regret taking later on.

Even if you’re not a beginner and regret some moves, it’s never too late to make a change. So stick to these 10 tips to make sure you never end up saying that “wish I knew this in the start!” at some point in your career. Good luck!

Race: today’s generation!

As I’m going to start this blog I would love to say everyone is perfect in their own personality, in their own perspective, in their own decisions. So it’s been a long time I had passed my school and now persuing my passion (not a course) ‘my passion’ so let me tell what is the main topic I’m talking about but firstly I’ll tell you a story which is real, so I was studying in 10th and one of my closest friend I can’t revel his name but his intrest was in painting and then he was confused that ‘bro what should I take as a stream in 11th’ so I told him what you love or in which you have your interest, but he said my father is telling me to take PCM (science, math) and he wants to take humanity but he was confused because his dad said if you’ll took humanity then there’s no future! And his dad told him take science-maths and then you cout prepare for IIT and he took science-math and just because he want to become a engineer and want to earn money! And he wasn’t happy as he wasn’t able to paint because of his studies and he wasn’t that good in studies so he was trying very hard but I said why I mean if you love to paint and you wanted to take humanity as your stream then did you took science and math just for the sake of money and even you don’t have intrest in science maths then why and he said because of my father. And this is my experience ladies and gentlemen he took science and maths he studied very hard and gave the exam for jee and he failed because he wasn’t having that intrest in PCM. And on the other hand he haven’t painted for more than a year and when he gave his exam and came back home he took his brush and painted and I’ll that art was one of the best of my friend as he hasn’t painted for a while which is more than a year but,

As i said ‘IF YOU HAVE INTREST IN A PARTICULAR FIELD, YOU’LL DEFINITELY WIN’ but if you don’t have intrest in that particular field you’ll definitely lose doesn’t matter who much you work upon it ‘HAVING INTREST IS THE TOP FACTOR’

For example, if you don’t love to cook and your mom said son just cook tonight’s dinner and you know how to cook but you hate it than Tonight’s dinner would be for the dustbin. I’m damn sure! I don’t love to paint and if you’ll say please make my sketch. Then I don’t know what I’ll make but after making that Sketch you’ll disown me I know.

But why you guys just want yurselves to put yur souls, your hard-work, your precious time and obviously money, in those things where you don’t have any Intrest in. My today’s generation just want to become a engineer, doctor, or a IAS.

Okay so, let’s take an assumption, if my friend was passed in that jee exam and he was selected in a college and becomes an engineer and was doing his job properly but what do you think he used to be happy and prosperous okay if you was at his place were you used to feel good and happy. Guys invest yourselves in those materials where you’re good at and where you’ll love your thing. Its not about that we should not listen to our parents but sometimes we should listen to ourselves too.

Rapes- deathbed for women

We live in a society where it is believed to worship Goddess or you may also say Women, as it is said that, women are like a Goddess. But as we look into today’s situation we can observe that in a society where women are believed to be Goddess are exploited, insulted, raped, discriminated against, and sexually harassed. Is this a manner in which we are worshiping a Women/Goddess? It is actually very disturbing and unacceptable. The rape cases in India are increasing at a very high rate. In 2018, 101,151 rape cases were recorded. Now here comes understanding what rape is, Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration without the person’s consent.

Now the question arises, what is the major cause of Rapes in India?

Wearing short dresses which means, inviting people to take such huge steps as rape, and harassment, late-night parties, or coming late from work alone at night or even in the daytime are the major reason for Rapes in India according to the thinking of some people.

But the major reason behind this is the thinking of the people. It is just a matter of thinking and mentality of the people or the way people approach or look towards women.
It makes me disturb whenever I hear about a girl or a female suffering from this again, whether it be Dr. Priyanka Reddy Nirbhaya or any girl going through this. Now I would like to ask this question to the ones who said that Rape takes place when a girl wears short dresses, so why would a newborn baby girl or an old woman to be raped? Like seriously, the answer to this question from people’s point of view is that they were wearing appealing clothes! What is meant by this? It is how people think and their mentality.

This society is becoming a Rapist Society day-by-day with the rape culture.

There is a need to have a strong and effective law and system to eliminate this. Although the Government is taking certain measures to stop rapes, it is not enough to eliminate them. What we need is more strong, firm, and effective steps to eliminate it, and it will be a big challenge for everyone in society because it’s not that easy to stop. Eventually, it will take time. And if we didn’t start now, then it will be too late. Till then more Dr. Priyanka Reddy and Nirbhaya will be killed.

What punishment do rapists get here in India? The punishment for rape is given in section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. Except in cases provided under subsection 2 of the same section, the punishment will be rigorous imprisonment which is not less than 7 years, which may be extended to life imprisonment and fine.

A man guilty of rape in the United Kingdom is liable on conviction to life imprisonment or for a shorter term. It is a statutory offense in England and Wales, created by section 1 of the Sexual Offenses Act 2003.

Capital punishment of rape is a legal penalty in the United Arab Emirates. Under Emirati law, multiple crimes carry the death penalty, and executions are carried through either a firing squad, hanging, or stoning.

For women, rapes are like facing death. After the rape, most of the girls are killed or burned, but if left alive by any chance then she has to live with what happened to her is more difficult than death. There should be more powerful laws, and systems to stop rapes, as well as strict punishments for the culprit.

ON SOCIAL RESEARCH

The Nature of Social Research

Research means a reliable systematic approach that is approved by a community of social researchers, to extend our knowledge of the outside world. It aims to create new ideas and understandings. The fact that social research involves people at both ends is what differentiates it from other kinds of research. The research object is a person(single person or a group or society) in social research, and there is an interaction between the person and the object. A proper research design(explaining the research problem) has to consider this fact carefully to be accurate. The one advantage of this fact is the researcher’s prior insight of the research object. This type of research is used in various disciplines such as psychology, sociology, history, politics, accountancy, nursing, medicine, and subjects involving people. Design is the key to systematic approach, and it has to start with a research question. Strategy and method has to be decided based on the research question.

Research Strategy

According to Catherine Hakim, design deals with aims and plans within practical constraints such as time, money and staff availability. It is also about style(different styles that researchers prefer and each produces a different result. Two philosophies of research are positivist approach and interpretive approach. Positivist approach relies on scientific evidence and tries to emulate or copy the methods of natural sciences. It uses experiments and survey. It is scientific, hypothetico-deductive(deducing consequences from policies that can be tested), quantitative, and extensive. Interpretive approach is concerned more about language and meanings, and interpreting the world by studying humans as social animals. It does not treat beings independently rather studies human experiences and contexts. It is ethnographic, explanatory, hermeneutic(works by humans that can be interpreted), qualitative, and intensive. It uses case study, participant observation, and interviews. In real world, the research is either positivist or interpretive. However, one can collect a mixture of both data.

Types of Research Strategies

Survey: It is collection of information in standardized form from groups of people. Here, a sample of population is studied to determine its characteristics. Then, it is inferred from the study that the population has similar characteristics. One can either select samples from known population or survey everyone on a smaller scale. Data from each individual is collected through a questionnaire or structured interview(same for all). The practice of distributing questionnaires in person or web questionairres are common methods, and however, the usage of questionairres is not compulsory. Examples include studying diet habits of teenagers, taste preference surveys etc.

Case Study: It involves complete observation of a social unit. It is usually an in depth study about a single complex object, or of a small number of related objects. It emphasizes on individual events. Robert Yin suggests that a wide range of research is best understood as case studies. Should we test our Professors?

Few years ago, the human resources development ministry made an announcement that professors would be required to have a PhD degree before applying for lecturer ship from the year 2021. But are research skills equivalent to teaching skills. Is the quest to discover something new be compared to the passion to impart knowledge. In India, teachers are given at most respect but the profession itself is seemingly losing its charm. Teaching is a profession that teaches all other professions influencing generations. Naturally this huge responsibility should only be taken up by the passionate ones.

However the craze and lucrativeness of a government job has crippled the recruitment process. The herd mentality of finding a comfortable and a secured job results in unnecessary competition in the field of teaching. The eligibility to become a college professor is an entrance exam. The UGC NET exam is conducted at both National and state levels. After the candidate has qualified this exam they can apply for lecturer ship in a university of their choice. But can a mere exam judge the capability of researchers and teachers together?  In the golden age of coaching institutes ready to share their perfect strategy to crack the test. Candidates do not mind preparing for the second or third major entrance exams of their lives.

The only outcome of these entrance tests is the pernicious coaching culture. While the real and bright students are on their way to MIT and Harvard on merit-based scholarships. Such a system undervalues the importance of skill. It fails to recognize teaching as an art.

A very astonishing fact is that in higher education there is no need for B.Ed. or a similar course for teachers. B.Ed. is compulsory for school teachers in the country but are college students any less students. Training makes certain that professors are equipped with various teaching methods and are capable of handling students from different backgrounds. While it can be argued that a course can’t ensure a good teacher but lack of training does ensure substandard teaching. The quality of teaching depends directly on the quality of teachers.

Thus, it is impossible to not draw a connection between the state of teaching and the state of research in our country.

To improve the state of education it is important to take a step-by-step approach. One of the first steps is to build a strong foundation. An Important cue from the corporate world would be to set a common vision and unified purpose. To enable this a short course or training could be introduced for budding professors. Seminars and workshops by experienced educators for a few years in the start of their careers can steer them towards common good.

It is a known fact that professors after a few years in the profession tend to become complacent. They fail to keep themselves updated with regards to their field of study or experiment with different teaching methods.

Therefore, the next step should be to establish the culture of consistency. One way of doing this is to introduce a robust appraisal system. This would ensure competent teachers to reap the benefits of their fruitful performance and it also helps them remain motivated.

The third step would be to ensure accountability to students. Students are the consumers of the knowledge and the work done by teachers. What better evaluators than a student itself. A good anonymous feedback system will encourage students to give suggestions to their own teachers with regards to how they teach. Bais is a natural outcome of a feedback system but positive criticism can be filtered out to improve a teacher’s performance and to ultimately benefit the students.

This sacred profession’s lost beauty can be restored if we start now. Teaching is an art driven by passion to inspire. Because inspiration and role model are what a young mind needs.

How a grassroots organization in India got a six-sigma certification

Prince Charles once wanted to meet the Mumbai dabbawalas,so he did–on a footpath.
The dabbawalas are a tiffin delivery service. They collect homemade food from houses and deliver it to the offices at lunchtime. But here’s a catch, they do not use any kind of fuel or modern technology. An organisation where average literacy standards of workers is grade 8 and probably only 15 % might have attended senior secondary school, the story of mumbai dabbawalas started more than 130 years ago.

Mumbai, then known as Bombay, took shape in the 19th century. During the latter half of this century, Bombay was a centre of cotton trade especially during the American Civil War and that created a pool of wealth among Indians. Much of this money was channelled into rebuilding the core of this city.
An increasing number of migrants had started to move to Bombay from different parts of the country. They belonged to different communities, and had different tastes that could only be satisfied by their own home-cooked meals. So, in 1890, Mahadeo Havaji Bachche started a lunch delivery service in Bombay with about a hundred men,and The dabbawalas were born.Unlike most other companies in the same field , dabbawalas have a very straight forward mission–To provide healthy homemade food to people.

Everyone in the organisation earns the same salary regardless of his job role i.e. approximately INR 12,000 per month.Currently, a minimum of 5,000 dabbawalas are involved in the business. Most of the dabbawalas come from the Varkari community of Maharashtra. They worship lord vitthal and therefore find their jobs of feeding people very spiritually fulfilling. They live simple lives, most of them reside in the slums of mumbai.

The Dabbawala got Six Sigma Certified, which means, error ratio is 1 in 16 million i.e. 1 mistake in 1,60,00,000 tiffin. In 1998, Forbes Global magazine conducted a quality assurance study on operation of dabbawala and gave a six sigma efficiency rating of 99.999999.

Here is how they operate:
The food dabbas that they carry have a shelf life of 4 -5 hours. The total delivery time is 6 hours – 3 hours from house to office and 3 hours from office to house. Each box shifts hands in transit 6 times and same in return as an empty tiffin. On a daily basis one worker covers a distance of 60 – 70 km. Since most of the dabbawalas are not educated, they use a simple code system. The dabbas are first collected from the homes of the costumes mostly on bicycles. The dabbawala then takes them to a sorting place, where he and other collecting dabbawalas sort the lunch boxes into groups. The gathered boxes are put within the coaches of trains, with markings to recognize the destination of the box . The markings incorporate the railroad station to empty the boxes and the destination building delivery address. At each station, boxes are given over to a neighborhood dabbawala, who delivers them. The purge boxes are collected after lunch or the another day and sent back to the individual houses. Speed and accuracy taking care of the boxes, timely conveyance to the correct proprietor makes a difference them keep up their benefit quality

The dabbawalas even deliver in the pouring rain or during political strikes. They have become the symbol of discipline in mumbai. However the pandemic has proved damaging for them. With no one needing their services anymore ,the dabbawalas have returned to their village.

I hope to see the annadaatas of mumbai again soon, laughing and chattering by the footpath before getting into a hurried segregation and loading of tiffins onto the bicycles.
