World of Wong Kar Wai

“He remembers those vanished years. As though looking through a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct.”

In the Mood for Love

If you are familiar with Wong Kar Wai’s work you know by now from the above dialogue what I’m talking about. And the reason I started this article with a dialogue from this movie because it symbolizes something and that is the style of Wong Kar Wai’s cinema whose prominent theme are often about time and inevitability. Often capturing a distinct separation or a missed opportunity.

Being a perfectionist, Wong Kar-wai has only directed a few films in his long career. But it is safe to say that he is one of the few filmmakers who have never made a bad film.

Here is the list of Wong Kar Wai’s movies that you must watch. Let’s start off the list with his magnum opus:

In the Mood for Love (2000)

Set in Hong Kong in 1962, “In the Mood for Love” stars Tony Leung as Chow Mo-Wan and Maggie Cheung as Su Li-Zhen. This is a film about a possible affair between two neighbors who discover their spouses are sleeping together. But it’s also, and perhaps more importantly, a film about the aftereffects of an affair that’s already occurred and is still occurring off-screen. In the Mood for Love is a complete work of art that is both dreamy and grounded in every sense.

Chungking Express (1994)

This 1994 masterpiece, a two-sided view of life in Hong Kong in the 1990s that would become one of the defining works of its era, was Wong Kar Wai’s international breakthrough. Chungking Express is more of a love letter to Hong Kong than a traditional romance which is told in two parts. Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung play Hong Kong cops looking for love and connection in one of the world’s busiest cities. Even though for some reason people prefer the second part of the movie, but it’s safe to say that neither halves would be so good without the other. Both halves of “Chungking Express” are required to provide a complete vision of a city in which people can be close enough to feel at home but too far away to touch. Chungking Express is one of those films that you can watch again and again, but still can’t get enough of it.

Fallen Angels (1995)

Fallen Angels is sort of a spiritual sequel to his 1994 masterpiece ‘Chungking Express’. Even he suggested the mentioned movies can watched as a double feature and experience will remain the same. In this movie, Wong Kar Wai explores with overlapping storytelling once more, but this film is renowned more for its visuals flair, a frenzied, wide-lensed experience that drew analogies to 1990s music video culture. In the end, “Fallen Angels’” messiness is what makes it most satisfying; the film’s tangled turmoil allows its survivors to discover a sense of hope in one another.

Happy Together (1997)

If some audiences found Wong Kar Wai’s “Fallen Angels” a touch too detached, he followed it up in 1997 with one of his most emotionally powerful films, a romance starring Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung as a couple travelling across Argentina. A relationship between the sensible, calm Lai and the disruptive, non-monogamous Ho, on the other hand, is doomed to fail. Wong Kar Wai brings beauty to a tragic story of a troubled relationship between dissimilar personalities in a way only he can, using a non-linear, disconnected storyline combined with his unique styling. Everything about Happy Together is familiar to fans of Wong’s earlier films, and yet everything is also different.

2046 (2004)

A lonely author writes novels about a train departing for 2046, a destination where people go to relive their lost experiences. Except for the writer, no one has ever returned from the location. “Love is all a matter of timing,” says a film in which time is deceptive, elliptical, and continuously calls back and forth. Nothing is more beautiful than something that has never been fully realized. Every time you see this film, it just makes you feel that you are a part of it, you feel the nostalgia, the pain and the unrequited love.

Enjoy your Wong Kar Wai movie marathon.

India needs to play with five bowler startegy in WTC Final feels Virender Sehwag

Indian cricket team on 18th June are set to play the historic test match of all time. After all it is the inaugural World Test Championship final faceoff between India and New Zealand.

Indian team have already named their squad for the finals and currently they are practicing in England ahead of the final match. Team India has got the perfect balance in all the departments mixed with experience and it seems all good so far.

But Virat Kohli’s men still have lot to work on the team combination before they meet the Blackcaps in Southampton. The pace bowling department of Indian team comprised of some skillful and experienced players with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj  accompanied by two world class spinners – R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. So it’s going to be a headache for Virat Kohli and Indian management to pick the final eleven before the Test match.

Whereas, former India cricket opener Virendra Sehwag  feels India needs to play both Jadeja and Ashwin in the final as the team needs to play to its potential. He feels India should go with 5 bowlers strategy with 3 pacers and 2 spinners as it will also strengthen their lower middle order batting.

“I don’t have any idea about how the wicket would look like on June 18th but one thing I have always believed is that you need to play to your strengths. If India can play with five specialist bowlers that will be great thing because I still believe that two spinners will come into effect on fourth and fifth day. The rough which will be created because of the foot marks, that can be utilized when two spinners are bowling in tandem to generate turn from the pitch,” Sehwag told PTI in an interview.

“Two spinners will be good for India because both Ashwin and Jadeja are capable all-rounders. That also adds depth to your batting. You don’t need a sixth batsman with both of them around.”

He further added, the contest between two IPL mates – Rohit Sharma and Trent Boult would be mouth watering and it will further spice up the finale in Southampton.

Sehwag who himself was a swash-buckling opener in his hey-days, is more eager to watch Rohit Sharma and he feels, according to Rohit’s technique and style he surely would be successful in this summer not only against the blackcaps but also against the England team in the test match series.

“Boult vs Rohit Sharma will be a contest that I would be looking forward to. If Rohit gets set and see off Boult’s opening spell, it will be a treat to watch,” feels Virender  Sehwag .

He also warns the Indian batsmen against the New Zealand pacers – Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Kyle Jamieson and Neil Wagner. All of them are accustomed to the English conditions and it will be a great contest between their bowlers and the Indian batsmen.

We don’t know what strategy Virat Kohli is going to apply in the historic finale but we can surely say, it is going to be one of the greatest Test match of all time.

How I Topped Boards and You Can Too! – Book review

Are you a student who is worried about your 10th grade or 12th grade board exams? Well, you need not worry anymore. ‘How I Topped the Boards and You Can Too’ by Gaurav Sood has all the tips and tricks you need to excel, not only in boards but also in other school exams. You do not need to be a topper to top; anyone, me, you and even your dog can do it(or maybe not your dog)!

This book is an honest guide. It contains all the details regarding one’s preparation, from day 1 to the finals. All the eating habits, sleeping habits, notes preparation, and other important aspects of a student’s life are covered. At first look it might seem like a self-brag book rather than a self-help book, but as you progress further, you understand the author’s emotions. All his so-presumed brags serve as good inspirations. One can both be great at academics and life. Also, the tips are not some magical spells, you do need to add your hard work to make them work, after all this is not some fantasyland(sorry to remind you but you live in a boring, no-magic world).

This book indeed helped me to score great in my exams. It is unlike other self-help books. In this book the author dives deeper,  giving us his own experiences as a teen. All the myths regarding ‘toppers’ are shattered throughout the book. Moreover, all the help tips are not just his opinions or some make believe, he has given scientific explanations and referred to scientific researches too. I loved this book even more because of the interesting way in which it’s written. The author has used amusing language to keep the readers indulged. You may or may not find some very interesting memes in this book(I loved them!). The summary chapters are wonderful; they provide a quick glance of all the preparation tips.

The book is more than a mere guide. It is a motivation, asking us to seek the best within ourselves. As Gaurav Sood says, “If you want to be the best, you’ve got to want it more than everyone else. It has to come from within.”

I wish to rate this book a 5 stars since it truly deserves it. I recommend this to all teens who are too stressed for the boards.

About the author:

Gaurav Sood graduated from The Doon School as the all-India ISC Board examination topper in 2008. He secured 99 percent, the highest marks in India’s history, and was felicitated with various national awards.

He then did his bachelor’s in economics from St Stephen’s College, where he secured the most sought- after campus-recruitment offer—a role as one of the youngest management consultants at McKinsey & Company.

Gaurav then took his GMAT and TOEFL exams, where he got a near-perfect 780 and a perfect 120, respectively, and is currently on a full scholarship at the University of Oxford.

In his free time, Gaurav can either be found trying to (unsuccessfully) emulate Roger Federer on the tennis court or tormenting people in the vicinity with his music, under the name Rooftop Sundays. He’s also a terrible cook, who, by some miracle, once managed to explode five eggs. Understandably, he’s now banned from his mother’s kitchen.

Dementia in elderly people

Senior citizens face various issues in their day-to-day life. With the growing age, a weak body and weak cognition make almost every task difficult for them to perform. Getting older is not just about wrinkles and greying hair. Physical illness is not just the issue of the elderly, but also mental illness. Depression and dementia are the most common psychological diseases.

Dementia is a syndrome that deteriorates the cognition and ability to perform everyday tasks of an individual. Dementia is not itself a disease, but a collective term used to describe symptoms of impairment in thinking, memory, and communication.

Although dementia mostly affects older people it is not a normal part of aging. Possible symptoms of dementia are-

  • Recent memory loss- A person asking the same question might repeatedly be a sign.
  • Forgetfulness- The person may be forgetting where he/she kept his/her everyday items.
  • Mood swings- Sudden or unexplained change in mood.
  • Bewilderment- Getting lost or confused in familiar places.
  • A problem in speech- difficulty with familiar language, forgetting words, or using wrong words in place of some other word.
  • Loss in interest- Showing less or no interest in doing something that they earlier enjoyed or going somewhere.

With these symptoms, dementia is acting as a major reason for the abuse of the elderly. The elderly suffering from dementia is easily negligible for some people as the sufferer is not capable of saying anything or raising any questions to them. The old aged people with dementia are often abandoned o the streets by their own families and children so that they don’t have to give any special care to them and also they know that the patient is not in a condition to report these incidents.

Abandonment is not the only abuse an elderly with dementia has to face. There are more abuses that they have to face like:

  • Negligence- The elderly with dementia suffers from forgetfulness and may not remember to take meals, bath or medicine on time and the caregiver may keep neglecting the patient there is no to rebuke
  • Sexual abuse- as a sufferer of dementia and a weak body the elderly is easy prey for the abusers and are hence, forced into sexual acts without their consent.
  • Financial abuse- old aged people are often tricked into handing over all their property to their family, by their family members, either by forcing or by forging the signature of the property holder.

People often use the words ‘Dementia’ and ‘Alzheimer’ interchangeably, but the two diseases are different. Alzheimer is itself a disease, whereas dementia is a collective term.

Aging affects differently on different people but it has a common way of handling it- love and care. The person who nurtured us yesterday needs some care and affection today. And love is deserved by every being and so by the elderly. Elderly suffering from dementia is not an opportunity for abandoning and abusing them, rather a human being to be taken care of.

Best Strategy for Long-Term Mutual Funds Investments

Mutual funds really help us to achieve our long-term goals. Everyone says that mutual fund investments are better when done over a longer period of time. But the question is: how long does the long run last? In this article today, we’re going to discuss the long-term strategy. Fixed Term Mutual Fund Investments: Mutual funds operate on the compound effect principle, which means that money generates money and it usually does so over a period of time. The longer you keep your money invested, the more benefits you can expect. Well, we think it not only takes time, but also a little homework and a good strategy.

What do we mean by “long-term”?
The word long term refers to something that lasts longer, but nobody tells us how long long term is. According to investors, investors generally refer to any investment of more than 3 to 5 years as long-term. However, this can vary as a person who is now in their thirties wants to keep their money invested for the next 30 years until retirement. Annuals to take advantage of this investment as you will be making money with the money. If you give your investment time, your wealth will be valued and grow over time.

Why are long-term mutual fund investments better?
Let’s take a quick example: A mutual fund that has a historic 10-year return of 12%. A person who invested 10,000 in this mutual fund ten years ago now has 22,000 (which is more than double) as a return on investment. To say about past accomplishments we should get carried away with it as the future cannot be predicted, but at the same time history gives us a clear idea of what the future holds. So the math here shows us why long-term mutual fund investing is good.

Strategy for Building a Long Term Portfolio

DEFINE YOUR LONG TERM PERIOD
The first and foremost strategy is to set your goal. Mutual funds work best for you when you decide on a goal that you want to achieve. There may be a different portfolio for a different need, and you can use several of them depending on what you want from your investments. For example, if you want to create a pension corpus. It depends on how many years there are until retirement. You can also create a separate portfolio for your children’s education that will help you streamline your investments and strategically build a secure future, say 15 years later. Investing in long-term mutual funds can be a great option.

FIND YOUR INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Not only can we invest in long-term mutual funds, we also need to research which investment best suits our needs. When it comes to mutual funds, we have several categories like equity, debt, etc. We all know that equity funds are riskier than debt funds, but there are more than 10 different funds that fall under the top fund category. With equity funds, for example, small-cap funds are riskier. as a large-cap fund. Similarly, when it comes to bond funds, credit risk funds are riskier than most other fund categories.

I never thought that I would write blogs

I never thought that I would write blogs.
I am passionate about film making so I never felt that blogs can help me in this. So I used to watch only movies and shows, and learn about film making through YouTube and online, I have never worked on any project but I will probably apply for internship somewhere in some time.
I did not read blogs earlier but once I saw a blog on my google feed which was about films recommendation, then I read it, which had short explanation of some movies.
I got to know a lot by reading it.
Since then I started reading blogs regularly and now I can say that I understand by reading blogs in less time than what I learn from any video, it totally depends on myself how quickly you can read. Ho.
One advantage of blogs is that the way YouTube videos come in between, they are saved in blogs.

How anyone can become so productive in their daily life

In today’s world, people always try to find out the better method that they will use to make their life more productive and useful but the problem is they are always following shortcuts and after sometimes they regret and become depressed, so in this post, we discussed some important tips that not only motivate you but also you can easily follow them.

1) Self-motivation

Now these days when we saw someone who is perfect in all fields of life and doing something better in their life we only choose two-path first we become his/her fan and follow them blindly or we feel jealous with his/her that God give them good family, or good life so they are using that benefits but I thought we should not be trapped in these conditions. it is good to inspire someone but not follow them blindly. Do something whatever big or small but inspire from that things. Because that particular work will change your not someone else work.

2) Competite with yourself

Competition is one of the keys in the process of success because whatever you are doing the study, business, etc you have to change with time and these changes will have to be beneficial for the process, so I thought is competition is important but you are free to choose your competitors so I think you should choose yourself because this is the best in all the competition in the world.

3) Time management

This is the basic ingredient without it you are not going to achieve something better in your life. Because life is itself a competition of you with yourself and for this. you have limited time on this planet so I think managing the time is very important for this game. Because without it you have so many tasks to complete but there is no time is available for them. so, manage your time perfectly and use a single moment of your life .

4) understand the concept of life

Life is not an emotional drama it is a perfect game that is designed by God so don’t be trapped in the different levels of life. Enjoy every single second of your life and don’t get sad when there is something not occur according to your will. Understand the basic concept of life that life has some rules and you have to understand all of these if you want to be happy in your life. Sometimes you have to sacrifice the best things in your life so be strong and ready to face all the problems of your life just like a warrior.

5) solve problems

This has become our habit that we are always run from the problems whatever the problem is, financially, socially, in the relationship, etc we always want to find out some shortcut and run away from them. But buddy this is life and the problem with it is that its rules are universal everyone single one who is on this planet has to follow them with or without will.so try to face every problem in your life

These are some rules that will surely help you to find a better purpose in your life and make your life more productive.

Why Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is not getting approval in highly regulated countries

India made COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research  is been used extensively in most of the countries. However, the regulatory body of USA, USFDA has still not given the approval of usage of Covaxin on their citizens. It is believed that their regulatory body wants further clarification on the clinical trials conducted for Covaxin by Bharat Biotech.

What is the reason behind USFDA’s unapproval?

USFDA has asked Bharat Biotech to submit the clinical trial data of Covaxin so as to get the vaccine approval in United States. But after the submission of partial data of clinical trials of Covaxin, the regulatory body of USA rejected the approval and has asked Ocugen( Hyderabad based pharma company which is also Bharat Biotech’s US partner) to submit the additional trial data. Covaxin is therefore rejected for emergency use due to lack of scientific data according to US regulators. However,  if they get the complete trial data from Bharat Biotech they can file a Biologics License Application(BLA) seeking a full approval instead.

Recently, USFDA has revised their guidelines for emergency use authorization and stated that they won’t be entertaining further requests. After all this, Occugen remains hopeful for a good news.

Bharat Biotech’s delay to share Phase- 3 clinical trial data

Bharat Biotech has not yet shared the clinical trial data of phase 3 trials and are expected to share it on next month. Following which, the company will start applying for a full licensure of Covaxin. “Once data from the final analysis of phase III studies are available, Bharat Biotech will apply for full licensure for Covaxin,” Bharat Biotech told the news channels.

Further they added, they have already taken the data of Phase-4 clinical trials which is the post- marketing surveillance to check the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

Hurdles of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin

COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech has been facing enormous hurdles in front of them pertaining to it’s approval. The wait of Phase 3 clinical trial data is taking long and that is the reason it is still not being validated by World Health Organization(WHO). Without which they are unable to export their vaccine and make an entry into the Covid 19  passport.

Different countries has different regulations and also some of the them have stingent  regulations. Due to which COVID- 19 vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech, Covaxin remains unapproved in all those countries without their Phase 3 clinical trial data.  This is the reason why, foreign universities are also not considering students who has been vaccinated with Covaxin. They are considering them as “un-vaccinated” in this regard.

Now it remains to be seen how soon they can procure the clinical trial data of phase 3 and then they can get the approval from foreign countries for emergency use. Also, the approval from WHO is required to get into the coveted COVID-19 vaccine passport. “We are aware that Bharat Biotech has sought the WHO emergency-use listing for Covaxin. We hope that the process of getting this approval is completed at an early date,” said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi on this issue.
