.. According to Anurag Thakur, this university will be built with Rs 750 crore. Local youth will get this decision. The areas of Leh, Kargil, Ladakh will come under the university.
Giving information about the decisions of the cabinet, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the first phase of the university will be completed in four years. A bill to amend the Central Universities Act 2009 will also be introduced to ease the way for the creation of a central university in Ladakh.
He said that setting up of a Central University in the Union Territory of Ladakh would help in removing regional imbalances in higher education and ensure all round development of the Union Territory. With the establishment of a central university in Ladakh, students will get more opportunities to pursue higher education.
Significantly, PM Modi in his address on the occasion of Independence Day on 15 August 2020 had announced the establishment of a Central University in Ladakh. This new central university will be a role model for other universities in the region.
Anurag Thakur said that the cabinet has also decided to form an Integrated Multipurpose Corporation to run the development projects of Ladakh in a better way. This corporation will do the work of development of industry and tourism and marketing of local products and handicrafts. It will act as the main construction agency of Ladakh for construction of infrastructure.
With this, the Union Cabinet has decided to form an Infrastructure Corporation in Ladakh, which will decide on trade and other related issues in the local area. Anurag Thakur said that with its establishment, development in Ladakh will be done faster. It has been brought under the Companies Act, the corporation will have a budget of up to Rs 25 crore.
