SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT

Sense of entitlement is a personality trait in which an individual believes that they deserve recognition or special treatment for something they didn’t earn. Its basically “YOU OWE ME” kind of attitude. They believe that the world owes them without giving anything in return.

Sense of entitlement is not always negative. But as quoted “Too much of anything is good for nothing” and it can affect a person both physically and mentally.

FACTORS:

Thought it is not exactly known how this mentality develops within a person, but the main reason can be due to social factors like The environment the person grew up in. The way parents and society treated the individual. How the person is been treated and The way the individual is been taught. All these can affect ones personal as well as professional life.

IMPACTS

Entitled people will be able to put up a nice and well mannered mask on the outside, but according to research deep down this is not how they feel about themselves or other individuals around them. Research also suggest that entitled people can also be dangerous at times. They assume themselves as superior and also take any challenges with anger and defensiveness. These create a vicious cycle, the more they are challenged by society’s limitations the more they become angry.

CYCLE OF ENTITLEMENT:

It follows a vicious 3-step cycle: The particular individual is always vulnerable to the threat of unmet expectations.  And even if the expectations are met, it may lead them to dissatisfaction. When that individual is upset they try to console themselves which results in self-reassurance that they deserve everything they wanted which in turn reinforces to the same entitled behavior.

TIPS TO OVERCOME:

Regardless of caste, color, creed and social status, we are all humans. So treat every individual as you would like to be treated. Treat your failure as a learning tool instead of being upset about it and make sure not to repeat the same mistakes twice. Go easy on others. If this is practiced overtime, you can learn ways to address issues of entitlement and how to live a healthy, balanced life.

Indian classical music

Today I want to discuss a very interesting topic ,it is about ‘Indian classical Music’, which is India’s heritage and pride. Indian classical music is the classical music of Indian subcontinent. it is basically divided into 2 parts ,in north India it is called as Hindustani music while in south India , it is called Carnatic music.

Indian classical music has 2 components Raga and Tala. raga is based on ‘Swara‘ while the tala is based on time cycles. Indian classical music has been adopted historically with many regional styles and places. Indian classical music is considered to be 6000 years ago where people developed a combination of musical notes with rhythm. Indian classical music is very closely connected to nature, beauty and surroundings. There are different – different ragas for different moods and seasons.for example , there is a raga called ‘Malhar’,which is said to be sung during rainy season.

Hindustani music

it is believed that Indian subcontinent music was integrated until political turmoil of Delhi sultanates era came, than it was divided into 2 parts 1. Hindustani music 2. Carnatic music.

it is believed that Hindustani music was started in 14th century. it was at its peak during Akbar period, during that time Tansen studied Hindustani music and made many innovations in it. he is also considered as founder of Hindustani music. Hindustani music is mainly found in North India, Pakistan and Afghanistan . It has different forms like khyal, tarana thumri etc. There is a huge list of Ragas in Hindustani music.

Puranadara Dasa is considered as grandfather of Carnatic music. He was a devotee of lord Krishna. Due to his efforts, Carnatic music was introduced.it is said that Carnatic music is more rhythmically intensive and structured than Hindustani music. Carnatic music are little bit fast and shorter than Hindustani music.

What makes Indian classical music different from other music

in this we will discuss that how classical music is different from other forms of music like Bollywood Music. It is all about history ,its context and purpose. classical music is studied and developed in a very disciplined way .and it is more professional and difficult to learn.it is also considered as a type of meditation.

nowadays very less people know about classical music, about its history ,origin and other things. We all are attracted by western Music because it has that an entertainment flavour in it. But classical music is not for entertainment or any other thing, it gives mental peace to the listener who understands its beauty. In fact in Bollywood music , classical music plays a huge role many songs that we like are sung with the help of ragas especially sad or romantic songs.

The Beauty Of Gulzar

Parallelism

In his seminal essay, ‘The Defence of Poetry‘, the Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley endeavors to define the function of poetry. Shelley states that “Poetry lifts the veil from the hidden beauty of the world, and makes familiar objects be as if they were not familiar.”

On that account, Shelley would readily claim Gulzar in his breed of poets for the latter’s ability to verbalize and derive poetry out of regular and commonplace things. Over the course of half a century, Gulzar has produced countless verses that have left every listener mesmerized by the extraordinary visuals produced by ordinary words.

How Does He Make The Impact?

The immense power of Gulzar’s pen has found numerous means. He has written dialogues, screenplays and even poetic anthologies. However, the dominion where he reigns supreme is lyricism. Verses produced by him propel any song towards the domain of poetry. His graceful blend of Hindi and Urdu allows him to draw images and sights that could only be a poet’s imagination.

What fascinates about his writing capabilities, even more, is the ubiquitousness of it. These lyrics talk and discuss anything and everything on the face of the earth. A simple look at the body of his work might overwhelm anyone for the number of songs that he has penned in his splendid career. This number, however, feels surprisingly insufficient when you begin to listen to each song. For the more you discover, the more you crave.

Air Pollution and India

According to the World Health Organisation(WHO), air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year. The same data shows that 9 out of 10 people breathe air that exceeds WHO guideline limits that contains high levels of pollutants. These deaths occur as a result of increased mortality from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and acute respiratory infections.

India faces a severe Pollution problem. According to a World Air Quality report from Bloomberg, 6 of the top 10 most polluted cities in the World are in India. The report also stated that New Delhi has the worst air pollution of any capital city, a damning indictment of the country’s problems with pollution.

Air pollution is a big problem in India – researchers say it kills more than 1 million in the country each year. On average its cities exceed World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the amount of particulate pollution (PM2.5) in the atmosphere by a whopping 500%, according to the report.

New Delhi’s problems are caused by fumes from its sclerotic traffic and worsened by diesel generators and the burning of fossil fuels in cooking by the less-well-off families. Industry plays its part too, as does the burning of waste and farmers setting fields alight after crops are harvested.

Future

On the bright side, country is making some progress, thanks to its National Clean Air Program which is aiming to reduce its air pollution levels by up to 30% by 2024. India is also planning the world’s largest expansion of renewable energy by 2022.

GAGANYAAN- INDIA’S FIRST CREWED MISSION

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), with its astounding & momentous achievements, has proved that even – Sky isn’t the limit. It has come very far, from launching Aryabhata, the first Indian satellite, with the help of the Soviet Union- to set up a world record by launching 104 satellites in a single flight.

NASA’s budget of USD 23.3 billion dwarfs ISRO’S budget of a mere USD 2.0 billion by a whopping 168.38%.But the Indian Space agency didn’t let the spartan budget hinder them from successfully reaching Mars in its very first attempt. Neither did it stop them from discovering water on Moon, with the help of chandrayaan-1.

What is Gaganyaan?

ISRO is looking forward to making India proud with its formidable 10,000-crore Gaganyaan Mission. “Gaganyaan” is a Portmanteau word made by combining two Sanskrit words – ‘Gagan‘ meaning sky & ‘Yana’ meaning craft.

Gaganyaan will be India’s first crewed mission to space. Its success will make India the 4th country to do so, following Russia, the US, and China. This very ambitious mission aims to take a crew of 3 astronauts to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for a stretch of 5 to 7 days. ISRO’s GSLV MKIII (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch vehicle Mark III), an evolved, unequivocal & futuristic version of the GSLV MK II, will launch the crewed vehicle. Nicknamed “Bahubali”, it is India’s heaviest launch vehicle, weighing about 640-tonne.

Prime minister, Narendra Modi, also mentioned Gaganyaan during his “Mann ki Baat” in 2020. – “Gaganyaan mission will be a historic achievement in the field of science and technology for India in the 21st century. It will provide to be a milestone for New India,” he said.

Two uncrewed orbital test flights will be launched before the first-ever Indian crewed mission, Gaganyaan. Gaganyaan’s first orbital test flight formerly scheduled for this year, owing to the current dire Covid-19 situation in the country, has been delayed for the year 2022. “Owing to the spread of coronavirus infection and the lockdowns across the countries, vendors are working at a lower capacity or closed which in turn has impacted the supply of components. Even our officials are working from home due to the lockdown,” K. Sivan, Chairman, ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space said.

Vyommitra, ISRO’s humanoid robot, will board the first test flight of the Gaganyaan schedule. “This humanoid will basically mimic human functions, will record parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, etc. This is getting ready. The two unmanned flights will let us ensure whether everything is working well, whether the environment in the modules are controlled, whether it is safe for humans. Like any programme, after two successful test flights, we will undertake the operational flight,” said K. Sivan apropos of Vyommitra & the two test flights.

The second orbital test flight is also lined up for launch in 2022 and India’s first Maiden human spaceflight, Gaganyaan, is slated to ride to space in 2023.

Future missions

Another momentous mission adjourned due to the Covid-19 is Aditya L-1, which aims to study the Sun. It will cover a stretch of 1.5 million km from the Earth’s surface. The satellite will be sent to the Lagrangian point 1, between the Earth and the Sun.

Shukrayaan-1, ISRO’s mission to Venus in 2024, which will orbit the Earth’s closest neighbor & study its surface and atmosphere, is also worth mentioning.

Black Friday By James Patterson

Introduction

A wise man once said, if you start reading James Patterson‘s books you will never be able to stop visualizing about the story for weeks!! How exciting and exhilarating the journey was! It’s been a long time since I read his books. After reading a lot of overwhelming reads, I decided to pick Patterson’s book up.

This book was originally published in the year 1986 with the themes of economic warfare and a brainy FBI service cop investigating the terrorists group which caused several bombings in the wall street.

PLOTLINE AND ANALYSIS

James Patterson’s Alex Cross series is my all-time favorite. Archer Caroll reminded me of Alex Cross and his breathtaking investigations. This is a brilliantly written novel with the secret militia group, and deterioration of financial systems of the world.

The storyline is very interesting and some parts are certainly difficult to understand as it vividly concentrates on the American stock markets. A secret militia group called ‘Green Band’ scares the world by collapsing the stockmarkets of wall street. A lawyer Caitlin Dillon tries to solve the chaos with Archer Caroll. The bomb threats, stupendous adventures of Caroll, nostalgic love of Archer Caroll and Nora are the typical, awe inspiring elements in Patterson’s works. Little did I know that I was yearning for an action thriller genre. After reading ‘Black Friday’ I definitely want to read more books from this genre now. I was binge reading this book, it was an engrossing summer read for me! Guess what? I’m gonna add more Patterson’s books in my list now.

Do you love reading American thriller books/series? Comment down below!

VICTORIAN PROSE

The Victorian Period, almost coincident in extent with the reign of the queen whose name it bears (Queen Victoria 1837-1901), stands nearly beside The Elizabethan Period in the significance and interest of its work. The first great figure in prose, in the period, and one of the most clearly-defined and striking personalities in English Literature, is Thomas Babington Macaulay, who represents in the fullest degree the Victorian vigor and delight in material progress, but is quite untouched by the Victorian spiritual striving. The intense spiritual striving which was so foreign to Macaulay’s practical nature first appears among the Victorians in the Scotsman Thomas Carlyle, a social and religious prophet, lay-preacher, and prose-poet, one of the most eccentric but one of the most stimulating of all English writers. In 1825 his first important work, a Life of Schiller, was published. The first of Carlyle’s chief works, Sartor Resartus came next. The title is allegorical, and Teufeldrockh, the hero, is really Carlyle. The clothes metaphor (borrowed from Swift) sets forth the central mystical or spiritual principle toward which German philosophy had helped Carlyle, the idea, namely, that all material things, including all the customs and forms of society, such as government and formalized religion, are merely the comparatively insignificant garments of the spiritual reality and the spiritual life on which men should center their attention. In 1834 Carlyle moved to London, where he first published The French Revolution. Here as in most of his later works, Carlyle throws emphasis on the power great personalities. During the next years he took advantage of his success by giving courses of lectures on Literature and history, though he disliked the task and felt himself unqualified as a speaker. Of these courses the most important was that on “Heroes and Hero-worship”, in which he clearly stated the doctrine that the strength of humanity is in its strong men, the natural leaders, equipped to rule by power of intellect of spirit and of executive force.

Among the other great Victorian writers the most obvious disciple of Carlyle in his opposition to the materialism of modern life is John Ruskin. But John Ruskin is much more than any man’s disciple; and he also contrasts strongly with Carlyle, first because a large part of his life was devoted to the study of Art- he is single great art-critic in English Literature- and also because he is one of the great preachers and of the nineteenth century humanitarianism at which Carlyle won’t sneer. His own practice in watercolour drawing led him as a mere youth to a devoted admiration for the landscape paintings of the contemporary artist J.M.W. Turner. Turner, a romantic revolutionist against the eighteenth century theory of the grand style, was then little appreciated; and when Ruskin left the university he began, with characteristic enthusiasm , an article on ‘Modern Painters’ designed to demonstrate Turner’s superiority to all possible rivals. In the intervals of this work Ruskin published others less comprehensive, two of which are of the first importance. ‘The Seven Lamps of Architecture’ argues that great art, as the supreme expression of life, is the result of seven moral and religious principles. “The Stones of Venice” is an impassioned exposition of the beauty of Venetian Gothic architecture, and here as always Ruskin expresses his vehement preference for the Gothic art of the Middle Ages as contrasted with the less original and as it seems to him less sincere style of the Renaissance.

Contemporary with Carlyle and Ruskin and fully worthy to rank with them stands still a third great preacher of social and spiritual regeneration, Mathew Arnold. His essays fall into four classes, literary, social, religious and political, though they cannot always be sharply distinguished. Some of his essays like, those on “The Function of Criticism at the Present Time”‘, “Wordsworth” and “Bryon” , are among the best in English while his “Essays on Translating Homer’ present the most famous existing interpretation of the spirit and style of the Greek epics. In his social essays, of which the most important from the volume entitled “Culture and Anarchy”, the contemporary English life presented as being in a state of moral chaos. he held that the English people had been too much occupied with the ‘Hebraic’ ideal and disregarded the Hellenic(Greek) ideal of a perfectly rounded nature. He found that one actual tendency of modern democracy was to ‘let people do as they liked’, which, given the crude violence of the populace naturally resulted in lawlessness and therefore threatened anarchy. Culture, on the other hand, includes the strict discipline of the will and the sacrifice of one’s own impulses for the good of all, which means respect for Law and devotion to the State. Existing democracy, therefore, he attacked with unsparing irony, but he did not condemn its principle.

The ending is the bee’s knees in the storyline!! Although the storyline is moving with the dark portrayal of the complicated emotions, the readers strangely feel satisfied in the end, the slapstick humor wafts discreetly from the grim circumstances.

‘It seems to me that very sad things always contain an element of the comical’

His friend talks about his relationship to the narrator and concludes his story by quoting the above lines with an instance of forgotten fairytale. The story vividly captures the absurdity of human lives and the fragile convictions of the young adults, I guess this is one of the best stories in the collection, the human suffering and depth of emotions are brilliantly ventured in the elusive storyline. The writing style is lucid but certainly elusive. Recommending this short story to everyone, Murakamians this should be your next read!
