However, nothing comes easy in a turbulent city. The 3 Mistakes of My Life is a book from Chetan Bhagat, a well-known author, and writer. The story lines based on love, historical disasters, religion, friendship, cricket, excitement, business, and humor. In other words, the book shows the picture of the real life of a common Indian and elaborate Indian mentality. He has presented the facts, neutrally narrated a story. It’s the story about three friends Omi, Govind, and Ish. The story is presented through Govind’s eyes and it’s his three mistakes of life. Govind is a true Gujarati, interested in coming up on his own in life, through business. Ish is an avid cricket player whose passion lies in playing, teaching, and watching cricket. Omi is a priest’s son who doesn’t have any ambition and moves along with his two friends. These simple people’s journey in life, how their lives get affected by the worst disasters in Gujarat’s history is portrayed in a simple yet efficient way. This book also teaches you how your dreams crash into pieces by unexpected events but how with support from people around you, you get back on track, focus and rebuilt your dreams.

This novel especially comes when people only want to come up with excuses to show or feel how different they are rather than see the common aspects and bring oneness, which can keep us together and achieve our common goal of growth, peace and prosperity. The language is simple, it connects well with India’s youth, the narration has improved, all in all, Chetan has improved in all the departments of writing a book. He has again proved that to be the best novelist, you don’t need fabulous vocabulary, or you don’t need awesome critics review, all you need is a threat to connect to people’s minds. Truly his best book ever

It is our duty to spread the awareness among humans as animals can be our friends, companions, protectors, benefactors and comforters. Research studies indicate that people has own pets and have close bond with them and have higher self esteem. They are also generally happier and healthier.

The aim of this week is to create an opportunity to direct the public’s attention to the needs and wants of animals.

History of Animal Rights Awareness Week

In 1991 Animal Rights awareness week founded to promote education about animals welfare and bring further protection to animals.

Several ways to participate in spreading awareness concerning the human treatment of animals are:

  1. Adopt shelter for pets.
  2. Do programs in your area and spread the importance of animals.
  3. Buy cruelty-free products.
  4. Know where your products come from and determine whether they are obtained humanely.
  5. Consider adopting pets from shelter.
  6. If you do decide to buy from a breeder make sure to do your research and find reputed one.

Many zoos function as an extension to conservation and preservation efforts, others do not. The conditions in puppy mills, for example, do not provide proper shelter or care. Most of the dogs are used solely for breeding purposes and rarely leave their kennels or receive proper veterinary care.

monsoon delayed in capital, temperature to touch 42 degrees celsius next week

Despite monsoon not reaching the Delhi NCR region, Chandigarh, and parts of Punjab yet, the North-West India region has got 58% surplus rain so far. According to IMD, East and North East, Central and the South Peninsula regions have all got above normal rains so far.

Daytime temperatures in Delhi, which have been below normal for the most part of June, are set to rise and touch 42 degrees Celsius next week as rains skip the National Capital. The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier forecast an early monsoon in the region. However, changes in wind patterns meant that the advancement of moisture laden winds, which bring monsoon rain, has now been hampered.

According to officials at IMD, there is now a chance that monsoon rains will hit Delhi after its onset date of June 27.

“Further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab is likely to be slow as large scale features are not favorable and the forecast wind pattern by the numerical models do not indicate and favorable condition for sustained rainfall over the region during the forecast period,” the IMD stated.

Despite monsoon not reaching the Delhi NCR region, Chandigarh, and parts of Punjab yet, the North-West India region has got 58% surplus rains so far. According, to IMD, East and North East, Central and the South Peninsula regions have all got above normal rains so far. While light rain is expected on Friday and Saturday, with the maximum temperature expected to be 39 degrees Celsius, the next four days are expected to be dry, with the maximum temperature expected to touch 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.3 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year. The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal. Humidity has been high throughout the past week, touching 77% on Wednesday.

Due to not favorable conditions, there is a possibility of delayed arrival of monsoon in the southern districts of Punjab and Haryana including Delhi and northwest parts of Rajasthan. Although rain and thundershower activities are possible over North India from 25th to 27th June, it will not be Monsoon rain. During the next few days, rain will remain very light in many parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai and the temperature is

likely to rise. Heat and humidity are very likely to increase over Northwest India including Delhi during the next few days.

bcci to donate rs 10 crore to indian olympic association

The Indian cricket board will donate Rs 10 crore to the Indian Olympic Association(IOA) to support Indian athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympic Games next month, it was decided at an emergent meeting of its apex council.

The summer Olympics is scheduled to be held in Tokyo from 23rd July to 8th August 2021. The BCCI has decided to support Indian athletes in every form and manner it can. In that spirit, based on the request received from the IOA/MYAS, the Apex Council of BCCI has decided to extend support to the Indian Olympic Association and has pledged a monetary gesture of Rs. 10 crores.

The support to the IOA has come as a bit of surprise, particularly considering some lingering doubts about the Olympic Games actually taking place due to Covid-19 situation around the world and its impending third wave. Certain people and organizations have called for the postponement/cancellation of the July-August Games, which were scheduled for last year but were postponed due to the pandemic. The apex council also decided to constitute a committee to suggest measures to give compensation to domestic cricketers for domestic season 2020 and 2021. The BCCI didn’t organize several men’s and women’s tournaments, largely due to the Covid-19 situation, in the two

seasons despite huge demand to organize them.

“Yes, BCCI will be helping out the Olympic contingent. An amount of Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned by the Apex Council,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.

“It(fund) will be used for the preparation and other contingency purpose of our elite athletes who have qualified for the Tokyo Games. The modalities of the payment will be finalized after talking to Sports ministry and Indian Olympic Association(IOA)”.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will begin from July 23. It is understood that post the departure of LiNing as the kit sponsor, the amount donated by the BCCI will certainly help in multiple ways for the contingent in covering various costs which includes training and preparation.

“The BCCI has always believed in helping the development of Olympic Sports and this is not the first that a big amount is being donated,” he said. The BCCI hoped the Indian athletes would “return with more medals than ever before.”

Unemployment in india

India as a nation is faced with massive problem of unemployment. Unemployment can be defined as a state of worklessness for a man fit and willing to work. It is a condition of involuntary and not voluntary idleness.

Some features of unemployment have been identified as follows:

1.Unemployment rates for women are higher than those for men.

2.The incidence of unemployment is much higher in urban areas than in rural areas.

3.The incidence of unemployment among the educated is much higher than the overall unemployment.

4.There is greater unemployment in agricultural sector than in industrial and other major sectors.

TYPES OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN INDIA

1.Open Unemployment: Open unemployment is a situation where in a large section of the labor force does not get a job that may yield them regular income. This type of unemployment can be seen and counted in terms of the number of unemployed persons. The labor force expands at a faster rate than the growth rate of economy.

Therefore all people do not get jobs.

2. Seasonal Unemployment: It is unemployment that occurs during certain seasons of the year. In some industries and occupations like agriculture, holiday resorts, ice factories etc., production activities take place only in some seasons. So they offer employment for only a certain period of time in a year. People engaged in such type of activities may remain unemployed during the off-season.

3. Cyclical Unemployment: It is caused by trade cycles at regular intervals. Generally capitalist economics are subject to trade cycles. The down swing in business activities results in unemployment. Cyclical unemployment is normally a shot-run phenomenon.

4. Educated Unemployment: Among the educated people, apart from open unemployment, many are underemployed because their qualification does not match the job. Facility education system, mass output, preference for white collar jobs, lack of employable skills and dwindling formal salaried

jobs are mainly responsible for unemployment among educated youths in India.

5. Structural Unemployment: This type of unemployment arises due to drastic changes in the economic structure of a country. These changes may affect either the supply of a factor or demand for a factor of production. Structural employment is a natural outcome of economic development and technological advancement and innovation that are taking place rapidly all over the world in every sphere.

6. Underemployment: It is a situation in which people employed contribute less than their capacity to production. In this type of unemployment people are not gainfully employed. They may be employed either on part-time basis, or undertake a job for which lesser qualification is required.

7. Casual Unemployment: When a person is employed on a day-to-day basis, casual unemployment may occur due to short-term contracts, shortage of raw materials, fall in demand, change of ownership etc.

8. Chronic Unemployment: If unemployment continues to be a long term feature of a country, it is called chronic unemployment. Rapid growth of population and inadequate level of economic development on account of vicious circle of poverty are the main causes for chronic unemployment.

9. Frictional Unemployment: Frictional unemployment is caused due to improper adjustment between supply of labor and demand for labor, lack of correct and timely information, seasonal nature of work, etc.

CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN INDIA

The important causes of unemployment in India are:

  1. Slow growth in the agricultural sector.
  2. Defective system of education.
  3. Absence of manpower planning.
  4. Inappropriate technology.
  5. Slow growth of industrial sector.
  6. Jobless growth.

education ministry releases guidelines for parents to facilitate children’s home-based learning

The Union Education Ministry on Saturday released guidelines for parents and caregivers on how to provide support to children and facilitate their home-based learning at a time when schools are closed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The guidelines emphasized the need for parents to create a safe, engaging and positive learning environment for children, have realistic expectations from them, take care of their health and ensure a healthy diet, and also have fun, a statement from the ministry said.

In a tweet, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said the ‘Guidelines for parent participation in home-based learning during school closure and beyond’ have been drafted “for parents and caregivers to provide information on the ‘why’, ‘what’ and ‘how-to’ of participation in supporting children during school closure, irrespective of literacy levels”.

“I strongly feel that a home is the first school and parents are the first teachers. In this pandemic, the role of parents is pivotal in the growth and learning of children,” he tweeted.

These guidelines are meant not only for parents but also for caregivers, other family members, grandparents, community members and other siblings in promoting the welfare of children.

The activities suggested in the guidelines are in accordance with the various stages of school education under National Education Policy 2020, the statement by the ministry said. Age-appropriate art activities have been categorized on basis of 5+3+3+4 system such as Foundation Stage(age 3 to 8years); Middle Stage(age 11 to 14 years); and secondary stage: From Adolescent to Adult (age 14-18 years). The activities are simple and suggestive, which can be adapted and adopted to local needs and contexts. The guidelines appreciate the role of art as a therapy for children under stress or trauma, the statement said.

“They (guidelines) also lay significance on improving children’s learning by monitoring and addressing their learning gaps.” Collaboration of parents with teachers in documenting and reflecting on the progress of children in their learning is important for both teachers and parents, the statement by the Education Ministry said. The guidelines also advise schools to involve parents by providing information and ideas on helping students with homework and other curriculum-related activities, decisions, planning and involving them in school decisions, it said.

Resources have been made available for children with special needs which may be explored by parents. A separate chapter has been included in the guidelines for supporting parents with low or no literacy. Schools, teachers and volunteers may take suggestive steps to provide support to parents who are not quite literate, the statement said.

Serum institute to begin novavax covid vaccine trials for kids in july

Pune-based Serum Institute of India said that clinical trials on children will begin from the month of July.

Amidst fears of the third wave of Coronavirus vaccine on children from July onwards. Pune – based SII, which is also manufacturing the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab known as Covishield in India, is hoping to introduce the Novavax vaccine, to be known as Covavax in the country, by September.

In the midst of vaccine shortage across the country, Novavax vaccine got a shot in the arm as the clinical trials were conducted across 119 locations in the United States and Mexico and proved efficacy of the vaccine. The development comes just days after Novavax Inc announced that its vaccine had turned out to be more than 90 percent effective in trials, including against a number of coronavirus variants of concern, in a large, late-stage clinical trial conducted in the United States. It was said that the trial was done on nearly 30,000 volunteers in the US and Mexico. According to the company, it is likely to apply for emergency use authorization in the US and other countries in the third quarter of this year.

Soon after the news broke out about the excellent clinical trial results, Dr VK Paul who is the head of India Covid-19 task force urged Serum Institute to begin clinical trials of the vaccine on children without any delay. While terming the vaccine clinical trials result as a positive development, Dr Paul had also said the vaccine was very relevant as it would be indigenously produced in the country and groundwork for the manufacturing of the vaccine has also been completed by SII.

As per the study, the vaccine candidate was found to be 93 percent effective against COVID-19 variants that are more easily transmissible and predominant. According to Novavax, the vaccine is generally well tolerated. Its side effects seen during the trial include mild headache, fatigue and muscle pain. According to the company, it is expecting to produce 100 million doses per month by the end of the third quarter of 2021 and 150 million doses per month in the fourth quarter of 2021. What makes the Covavax vaccine critical in the country’s Covid-19 immunisation programme is the fact that the government expects about 20 crore doses of the vaccine to be available between August and December. Also, the vaccine can be stored at a temperature between 2 and 8 Celsius which makes it highly suitable for Indian conditions where logistics and storage bottlenecks in far flung areas hamper efficient inoculation.

After the completion of clinical trials and regulatory approval to the vaccine, India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive will pick pace with three indigenously manufactured vaccines namely- Serum’s Covishield and Covavax and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

Peer pressure and teenagers

Q. What is a Peer Pressure?

Peer Pressure occurs when a peer group exerts direct or indirect pressure to do certain actions. If you’re with friends who are doing something that you typically would not do and they convince you to do what they are doing, that is an example of peer pressure.

Q. What are the effects of peer pressure?

The effects of peer pressure can manifest differently in each person. Peer pressure can play on certain strengths or challenges that an adolescent already faces. For example, a teen with low confidence and few close friends may be more susceptible to the effects of negative peer pressure, while a confident, extroverted teen may be more likely to give and receive positive peer pressure.

Negative peer pressure can encourage teenagers to participate in negative behaviors and habits, such as stealing, cheating, bullying and skipping class. Negative peer pressure can also decrease self-confidence and lead to poor academic performance, distancing from family members and friends, or an increase in depression and anxiety.

On the other hand peer pressure can have positive effects on teens as well. Positive effects of peer pressure can include pressure to become a leader of a school group, develop leadership qualities, excel academically, participate in extracurricular activities and volunteer for a good cause.

Q. What are the causes of peer pressure?

1. Fear of rejection: This fear of rejection is a powerful reason for pack behavior and the development of peer pressure. Many people in our society are also quite fearful of rejection and are therefore afraid to have their own opinion.

2.Weak personality: Peer pressure is quite effective on people who have not developed a stable personality yet. The weaker the personality, the easier it is for groups to influence individuals to behave in certain ways. Thus, the weaker the personality, the higher the chance that people get affected by peer pressure.

3.Bad parenting: Parents have a huge influence on the mental development of their children. If parents install self-esteem in their children from an early age on, chances are less vulnerable to peer pressure since they may have developed a strong enough character to value their own opinion more than the opinion of others.

4.Mental issues: Mental health issues may also make people vulnerable to peer pressure. If people suffer from mental issues, they may be easy to influence and those people may commit actions or crimes due to peer pressure which they otherwise wouldn’t have committed.

5.Hormonal reasons: Especially for teenagers, there might also be hormonal issues when it comes to peer pressure. The hormone system of teenagers is quite complex and hormone levels change frequently. Thus, this makes teenagers quite vulnerable to peer pressure since their hormones may weaken their ability to judge actions correctly.

Q. What are the solutions to deal with Peer Pressure?

1.Support children to find their passion: Powerful way to protect your kids from the negative effects of peer pressure is to support them in finding their passion.

2.Parents should observe changes in their kids behavior: In order to fight the negative effects of peer pressure, it is also crucial that parents observe their kids behavioral changes. Those changes may indicate that kids are affected by peer pressure.

3.Communicate with your children: It is important for

parents to encourage open communication and help their child prepare for situations of negative peer pressure.
