Guiding your way through the Arts

Art is an expansive and diverse field consisting of drama, music, theatre, industrial design, performing, culinary and visual arts. It is the mastery of a skill, a creative way of expression and communication of emotions. Performing arts (including fiction, drama and theatre) is primarily where the performers use their facial expressions, voices and bodies to communicate the message to the audience. While the visual arts (including music, poetry, film, photograph, printmaking) are created for aesthetic purposes. The inbuilt creativity established in the various means of art signifies that budding artists and performers can draw, sketch and design through distinct employment paths.

Following is the list of potential options available to people keen to have a career in art.

  1. Music: It covers a wide range of professional zones such as composition, production and engineering, music therapy, music composition and music education. This perhaps can be categorised into a performing art, a fine art, and an auditory art. Music has potential career avenues outside of becoming a musician. The avenues include composers, who work, arrange and develop the music. They might create a background soundtrack or write a composition for a performer.
  2. Graphic design: In today’s time graphic and visual designing is in a huge trend. As more and more content is going digital, the need of graphic designers have increased tremendously.
  3. Fashion: It is a hub of designing and also offers career opportunities in fields like sales and marketing, retail, journalism, public relations and merchandising, for those individuals who don’t have an interest in sewing or stitching. This often includes fashion merchandiser who mixes the sense of style with knowledge of marketing and sales, a visual stylist and a fashion designer.
  4. Drama/ theatre/ Actor- the most popular profession in this category is actor but the neighbouring options are no less such as screenwriters, set designers, theatre director etc.
  5. Web designer/ Web developer- A web designer focuses on the overall aesthetics of the website while the web developer aims to make the site functioning. An individual can work as in-house web designer or as a freelance web designer.

Budding artists possessing the right skill set and knowledge in performing arts have variety of options while choosing their career paths. Various promising jobs are available in this sector including being an actor, makeup artist, theatre director, musician, choreographer, set designer, community art worker, ballet/modern dancer etc. Specialisations always go a long way. Some can figure out their unique talent and want to specialise in it which helps them in getting jobs in the places where their skill grows like music graduates get jobs as performers and in composition while drama graduates would become actors, writers, directors, designers, stage managers, technicians, drama teachers, presenters, producers and stage managers. The major common employers of performing arts include: local government, arts organisations, educational institutions and voluntary organisations.

There are further tons of fields where the individuals can find their place or their zone such as applied arts offers architect and automotive designers as the career option while art and studies offer art historian, professor, auctioneer as the career options. Culinary art is also a popular art amongst individuals, it includes a food stylist, pastry chef and winemaker.

Interfaith Marriages- Still an issue?

India is a land of numerous and diverse cultures. People follow these cultures to the best but they also create some misconception in their mind while following these cultures and when they do so they begin to blindly follow these cultures which is very harmful for the society we live in. However, even with so many people of different cultures living together, it comes with its own set of limitations. Inter-caste marriages is one of the biggest problem of India even today. Marrying a person of a different caste creates a large dispute in Indian families. It is just not accepted. It’s rather unfortunate to experience petty things like these when India has become advanced in terms of technology and in many other fields.

Inter-caste couple are even tortured or killed for going against their family by marring or loving each other. These couples face many challenges to marry and many of them even leave there homes and then gets settled with each as they know that their families will never accept them. They even have to hide their identity or they decide to live in area where they know their parents can’t reach ever.

  • In Manoj–Babli honor killing case, Manoj and Babli were from different caste in Kaithal district, Haryana. Their family were against this marriage, Babli’s grandfather who was leader of Khap panchayat ordered her family to abduct the groom (Manoj) and bride (Babli) and killed them. This was the case of honor killing, the court sentenced Khap panchayat leader (Babli’s grandfather) life imprisonment. Caste holds more primacy than their son or daughter’s happiness. A society that is ready to kill their daughters and sons for their false pride.
  • In the Mahabharata too, we come across several instances of inter-caste marriages of this type. For example, Santanu married Ganga and later Satyavati, both were from outside his own caste. So, the concept of inter caste marriage has been prevalent from time immemorial, but it is hardly practiced due to different social stigmas associated with it.

India is making effort to stop honor killing by sentencing rigorous imprisonment for offenders of honor killing. Hence, of judicial system is supporting inter-caste marriage by punishing the offenders. The caste system in India prohibits marriage outside the caste. However,inter-caste marriages have gradually gained acceptance due to increased rate of education, employment, middle-class economic background, and urbanization. According to a survey in 2016, about 5% of marriages are inter-caste in India, that means very few people have accepted for inter-caste marriages. Inter-caste marriages are most common in poor people as compared to the rich one.

Everybody thinks that issues related to the inter-cast marriages are only happening in rural areas, but according to the stats. they are happening in urban areas too. Urban Indians are still getting married according to their parents or grandparents. According to the survey conducted in 2018, 93% of people had an arrange marriage, just 3% had an love marriage and 2% of people had done love-cum-arranged marriage in urban India.  In fact, even some highly educated people don’t support inter-cast marriages.

Some of the Bollywood movies like Bajirao Mastani, Jodha Akbar, Ishaqzaade and 2 states also depicts inter-caste marriage system and issues related to it.

So, let’s sum up this topic with the fact that inter-cast marriages will slowly come into acceptance in India and now a days Modi government is also supporting these marriages by providing financial facilities to the inter-caste couples. Hence, we hope for the better conditions in future.

Power of positivity

Each of us has this ongoing need for love, commendation, and acceptance. However, people are more likely to be the victims of explosions, anger, fear, and dislike. All of these things are a reflection of our negative thoughts. But the irony is that the more you show it, the more you attract it. This is where the power of positive thinking comes into play. This is not something to be taken lightly and certainly should not be taken as a preaching tool for scholars and saints. Many do not believe in the power of positive thinking, viewing it as nonsense. Still, this is a topic that is gaining popularity. If you are naturally beautiful, then the way you deal with your problems attracts positive results. On the other hand, if you are scared and nervous, then without the side effects, and you behave, look, and speak appropriately. After that you reap the problems. This paper seeks to study the power of positive thinking and its impact on people’s attitudes.

Positive and negative attitudes are contagious, and their consequences are obvious. If you choose the past, you will find great and beneficial power to turn your mind to good, knowledge and training are needed. People do not change their attitudes and thoughts in an instant.

Even our health is affected positively. We walk long and our voice has great power. Our body language reflects how you feel inside. Verification works both ways, building and destroying. They are a strong, neutral person. How we use them determines whether they will bring good results. Then, make sure you have good energy and create a good vibration around you. We all touch the people we meet, whether it’s right or wrong. This happens naturally and at an unconscious level, with thoughts and feelings of transmission or body language. People hear our thoughts and are affected by our thoughts.

Positive thinking is a positive attitude toward thoughts, words, and images that work with growth, development, and success. An attitude that expects positive and positive results. A good mind expects happiness, happiness, health and a successful outcome of all situations and actions. Avoid phrases like ‘I wish I could have’ or ‘I wish I could’. The past is no more and the future comes when it comes. At the moment this is what we have so we have to make the most of it. Be natural and happy about who you are and what you have. Focusing on what you have will make you happier instead of focusing on what you do not have. These simple suggestions will help you to develop positive thinking in your life.

LSR student dies by suicide, some call it ‘institutional murder’

A second-year student studying mathematics honours at Lady Sri Ram College, Delhi died by suicide on November 3, 2020. She was the state topper in class 12th examinations and was awarded the ‘Inspire’ scholarship by the Department of Science and Technology because of her outstanding result in the 12th examination. The Rangareddy resident had mortgaged her house to pursue higher studies. The scholarship was therefore a relief to her and the family. However, the scholarship was delayed since March resulting in financial pressure. Her suicide note in Telugu states that no one was responsible for her death and that she felt burdened as her family had been spending a lot of money on her studies, leading suicide as her only resort.

In a survey conducted by the LSR Student’s Union, Rani (name changed) had clearly mentioned how she was facing troubles with the connection and could only attend few hours of the classes as she lacked equipment. She further mentioned that she could not give best to her studies as the study material was not available to her and the timings of her class clashed with her household work. In her suicide note she wrote ‘I cannot live because I cannot study’, signalling how burdened she was. According to her friend as reported by news click, Rani was asked to vacate the hostel room in middle of the pandemic resulting in added pressure.

SFI LSR are calling it an ‘Institutional murder’ holding the government institutes responsible for the suicide. They have called out the government, the college and the university for the lack of empathy towards the deceased student and also towards those students who are facing financial problems due to loss of income. LSR students say that her death is a reminder of how even the most prestigious institutions of India are unable to protect the most vulnerable students of all, driving them to take such drastic steps.

LSR claims that their policies have been very transparent regarding hostel accommodation being for one year and that the ‘name of the deceased’ had never approached the department/college or faculty for help. LSR alumni association ELSA says that the college has a certified counsellor to help students at all times.

Students have been demanding disbursal of fellowships, as they pointed out that University Grants Commission (UGC) has frozen the disbursal of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowships (SRF).  The tenure of JRF scheme is of two years and for the candidates who qualify the National Eligibility Testing (NET) and the UGC-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research joint test.  Research scholars across the country have complained about the delay in payment of scholarships in August. Rajnish Jain, UGC Secretary has said that the disbursal was delayed citing some technical issues.

The University Grants Commission however has now said that it will disburse the pending scholarships to Junior Research Fellows and Senior research fellows within a week. A JRF scholar gets Rs 31,000 per month while an SRF scholar gets Rs 28,000.

Freedom of speech and expression still exists?

Right to freedom of speech and expression is one of the fundamental right provided by our Indian constitution. This right comes under Article 19 (1)A; which states that every person living in India belonging to any caste, creed, colour or status has an equal right to express themselves, that means every person has the right to express their views, thoughts, creations or idea though any media without any interference or obstacles. But this right is imposed with certain reasonable restrictions or limitations which comes under Article19(2). This law is one of the most important part of the whole democracy as it describes how the democracy of the particular nation works.

But now the question arises ‘Are we really getting the right to freedom of speech and expression?’ Well! the answer can be both yes or no because this right to freedom of speech and expression has positive impact on society as people can reach to the world easily by sharing their views or idea and an individual’s idea can incarnate thousands of lives but it can also have negative impact on society as people misuse, violate and misinterpret this right by abusing or defaming others image through their words. Even though many popular journalists, reporters, cartoonist were arrested under this law on the charge on defaming other party.

There are cases where people are arrested under the law of freedom to speech and expression:

  • Teenage student of Uttar Pradesh was arrested on 17th march 2015 because he commented against Azam Khan on Facebook.
  • A cartoonist of Mumbai was jailed on September 2012 on publishing drawings which were based on anti-corruption. So, he was arrested in the charge of sedition of the drawings.
  • A teacher in West Bengal was arrested in 2012 because he mailed a cartoon to his friends that was against Mamta Banerjee-chief minister of Bengal.
  • Recently one of the most popular journalist of India Arnab Goswami-Chief-in-editor of Republic tv was arrested by Maharashtra police. FIR was registered on him for showing inappropriate content on his channel which created disputes between communities and groups.
  • According to Supreme court the ‘Tablighi Jamaat’ case is most abused case of freedom of speech and expression in recent times.

There are many other cases which proves that how much this law is threatened in India.

Lastly, I want to conclude that, Positive and negative impacts does not end here, there are many other reasons which lead to the violation of this right so giving right to freedom of speech and expression does not mean giving right to use abusive and bad language which   can harm others and can create disputes between communities, groups or individuals. If this right will be taken positively and as responsibility by every citizen of the country, it would give us better results as it will lead to the development and sake of the society as well as the whole nation. So, you decide freedom of speech and expression still exists?

Why fake feminism is dangerous?

We are living in the year 2018 and the 21st and the world is developing rapidly. People travel from place to place with innovation, technology, and science. The concept of humanity itself attests to a radical change and in this case it is about equality, gender rights and justice for all. The age-old debate between the sexes continues and we are still fighting for dominance between men and women and recently the spirit has been driven by certain events and events.

The recent debate and topic on femininity impressed me. By all accounts, any ordinary person and public servant knows the meaning of femininity and respects and wholeheartedly supports it. This generation is aware of all the challenges and stands in the fact that women are beautiful when they are no better than men and we see the change happening in front of us.

But there is a great diffrence between beign busy in a healthy manner and being busy in an unhealthy manner. If your brain is busy in a healthy manner it would make you meet that version of yourself which you couldn’t imagine now. But if you are keeping yourself busy in an unhealthy manner that you degrade the health of your brain and body.

  • WRITING AND READING:

Reading novels, articles or any other knowledgeable stuffs helps improving the knowledge and also improves the personality of oneself. And writing short stories, poems or personal dairy would help you meet with your inner self.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON INDIA’S ECONOMY

The economy affected a lot by this pandemic because all the economic works are shut but now every country started thinking that they should start economic activities and put less restrictions due to this pandemic many people lost their job they don’t have money to fulfill their daily needs .the report by IMF said that the economy will go in negative because of this heavy crisis due to which the growth rate of GDP decreases so that poverty in our country increases due to pandemic the demand for natural gas and oil decreases the most affected sectors are travel and tourism loss of 8500 crore done because of the restrictions imposed on foreign tourist also entertainment industry also facing loss of 250 crore between march and may because they have postpone all their shooting plans the automotive industry also affected a lot by this pandemic because the materials which is required for manufacturing are imported from china and Germany so the production rate is decreases. FMCG [fast moving consumer goods ] majority of supply chain is disrupted production is not smooth because of the lower demand. Factories themselves couldn’t work in full capacity the pharma sector is working smoothly because the demand increases as we all aware that India started making a lot of masks and sanitizers so the demand increases also India exports a lot of pharma products but the raw materials coming from china so this is also a big problem .So the government decided take several steps for maintaining the economic growth and announced some packages the first one i discussed here is the package which is given to MSMEs as we all aware that the MSME are more affected by this lock down due to which most of the enterprises shut for forever and people lost their job so the government decided to help them so those msmes who have taken loan of 25 crore the government decided to give collateral free loan the tenure of the loan is 4 years. this is one of the step taken by government so this will help the companies to start their company again and started working on it and also there are so many other decisions taken by government and also the government focusing on making India self -reliant because if people use more products of our country then the demand increases so the rate of production is also increases so more employment are generated the standard of living increases so it is beneficial for our country as well as other countries. so we can say that the economy is not going well in coming months but after sometime it will become well if everything goes in favor . this lock down gives a lot of negative effect to our GDP growth now people realize that they have to live with corona virus because they don’t know how much time require for making vaccine so they started living life with taking care of themselves.it is very much important for everyone that they follow every guidelines and take care of themselves and do their work carefully.

Human trafficking

Using a person for their own purpose by cheating and by using false power so human trafficking not only affects a specific religions and races but it affects all most of times it is life threatening women’s and teenagers are mostly affected by it. The people first lay a net and asked them or give them opportunity of better life or job so they trusted them easily here they win they exploit them to do what they want if they refuge them then they give them threat of killing so from here human trafficking starts…..
According to United Nations Palermo protocol the definition of human trafficking is ….trafficking in person can be defined as the recruitment, transportation , transfer ,harbouring or receipt of person by means of threat or use of force or others forms of coercion or abduction of fraud or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation.
Now the victims of human trafficking is mainly those who lives in poverty the traffickers mainly focuses on that people who don’t have anything so they come easily in their trap the traffickers watch those areas and do their work sharply and there is also attraction of big cities play major role in human trafficking domestic violence is also a big reason
As per the record in India there are 1794 identified places of such origin from where female victims are being trafficked between 18 to 24 years. Every time we hear news of missing of girl or a women what it says there are number of cases coming everyday so the reason is that the victims family even don’t know where their family member is gone. In many states of India we hear a story about human trafficking a study of 207 trafficked women from 14 countries reported that 95% of women had experienced sexual or physical violence . so it’s clear that they exploit women thinking about that they are their own properties these kinds of heinous crimes they done some of the people who are involved in these are their own relatives the traffickers use tactics no one knows where they are doing trading the women became prostitute they have to sleep with lot of men’s without their consent after a particular time after knowing that they are unable do to anything they are okay with it many women’s died because of HIV
In times of India : data from national crime records bureau [NCRB] shows that around 4000 cases were filed in the country in 2018 but the number of unreported cases is presumed to bge much higher in Vishakhapatnam district however the number of such cases registered in last three years has steadily risen .
The Hindu: the united nation star=e department has released its 2019 trafficking in persons report highlighting the need for action against domestic trafficking in human beings India continued to be placed in tier 2 on the country trafficking scale
The Hindustan times: in 2017 while the number of cases related to human trafficking in west Bengal had recorded tenfold decrease from 3579cases in 2016to 357 the rescue of missing persons increased by more than two folds 53445b persons rescued in 2017 as against 23624 persons in 2016
In last I want to say that government [central or state] should look on these crimes precisely and should be vigilant
In section 370 of Indian penal code it is said that if any person got caught then he should be in jail for 7 years or may be 10 years and they have to give fine also.

A letter to self :)

Dear self,
How are you doing? I hope you are doing well. I know life has been tough but you have done quite a good job to stay alive. Thank you for not giving up.
Life is not a straight line, it goes up and down. If you are sometimes happy or sometimes sad, be glad because this is life. If you don’t want these ups and downs in life, then that is as good as wanting death. The challenges you have gone through, and those you will face in the future, may break you down. It makes you think about your self-worth, your weakness, and your failure. This devil will try to hold you from walking toward your goal. It is like a dark cloud full of negative thoughts that turns even darker every time you look up to find a hope.During our past life journey, I am terribly sorry that I was not great enough to ignite your motivation, was not good enough to encourage, to appreciate you. Sorry that I allowed you to hang your head down low. I was not all ears to listen to your problems. I did not stand up for you.But behind these dark clouds, there is a bright blue sky waiting to shine on you once you blow those clouds away. The same goes to these hardships; while you are looking for help to unlock this hardship, you also learn something: nobody can help you but yourself.Have you noticed that you have changed? You have. You have improved. I am glad that you did. You have eliminated your hidden fears and have had the courage to let go. The change you that you experienced is definitely hundred percent different from the past, when your anxiety would make you cancel your plans by using “I’m busy” as an excuse. This change is beautiful. Keep it going throughout your life.I hope you are more confident to stand up and rise up to challenges. I hope you stop comparing your life to that of others. Tell yourself that your life is perfectly imperfect. At the end of the day, it is all about yourself. As I am writing this letter, your life isn’t fully figured out yet. You are not 100% sure of your direction, or what you are going to do long-term in life. Surprise me with what you have in store. And something to remember is that it is okay to not know what you want to do in life.
Love,

-palak!!

The Change Challenge-After the New Normal – August 2020

We all are experiencing a sudden pandemic on global scale. We all on the new phase of ‘new normal’. There are certain restrictions but still many business organizations are focusing on the ‘back to office’ thing.

It is very needed that the leaders should focus that the working environment should be as safe as possible. The different steps taken by the government like installing of scree, re-arranging of desks in cubical forms and many other, so that there is no direct contact with each other and the work force at least returns.

But the question always remains what will happen next? Still the business needs to look at past the ‘new normal’ and the next challenges that they will be facing.

About the old normal or pre-COVID era

Before six months also, we did not know that business and its working condition will suddenly change dramatically. The workplace will suddenly change from ‘office’ to ‘home’. This environment is very daunting as we never experienced such condition before.

A lot of changes leaders and business entrepreneurs had to undergo.  Remote working and flexible hours came into their concern. Though employees are working from home for full time but still are missing the office space and social attachments.

When we emerge from this phase of life, we will prove that our organization  are very much more adaptable by us than working from home for full time. But working from home is leading to an increase in loyalty, this fact cannot denied.

The future state of ‘New Normal’

Many changes have already taken place, but still there more certain changes yet to come. This process is not going to be a short-run process but a long term process. The pain and strain gained from this global pandemic, both physical and mental, are bound to leave scars on the work force.

Mental health issues are becoming very common now-a-days in this COVID-19 era. Many are not able to express or confession it.  This COVID-19 will; have an significant issue on our population.

We still need to take care and prepare for the COVID-19 health risks and issues. Until we take steps, this COVID-19 will stay in our community. We cannot take risk of the health and wellbeing of the employees. Prevention is better than cure and it is better to be safe than sorry, Right!

It is considering that the 2021 or the post-COVID-19 era will be relaxing and break the stress of 2020, the era of COVID-19.

Change is the permanent and a challenging issue, every time. It can be managed in a possible manner for a longer period of time. We all have deal with this impact of global pandemic for months or the next years to come. So let us plan from the very beginning of the day one that how should we will deal with this situation.  It is the utmost requirement to deal with this dramatic changes regarding this pandemic.

Not all the days of an entrepreneur are same. Everybody’s perspective is very different of how they utilize their day and time. It may vary from person to person.

Not every entrepreneur gets up early in the morning at 6.00 A.M. and goes out for jogging. Then he meditates and record a vlog while drinking wheat-grass drink. All is set by 8.00 A.M. and he is ready to head to the office work.

Rather some entrepreneurs have children and have to spend the morning time with them by making them ready for schools while others spend their morning time by responding to the official emails on their laptop by holding a cup of coffee. Either way, their day gets started with a ritual for staying motivated for the rest of day. It brings a positivity in them.

The most challenge that an entrepreneur face is to keep himself motivate for the rest of the day. It keeps him cool-minded for the rest of the day.  It is correctly said that intellectual work is better done in the morning and more creative work when tiredness starts setting in.

The day is not just spending time with the company but also spending and giving time to the family and friends and the most important to give time to themselves. They spend morning breakfast with their family and they keep evenings for their friends by communicating with them via calls or tests. Another thing that can happen is when you are going to present this, you know that your investors fully know about your business and may not be interested to listen to you.

You might fear that this particular deck is of no use and cannot impress them.

You are afraid of showing your business without proper NDA

You could be scared of sending your deck to a venture capital and if you are not getting any commitment like non-disclosure agreement, it might be a cause of your fear.  The thinking that your own business ideas might get stolen, can be very disturbing for you.

What you should send before your meet-up

You should not send a deck but instead of that deck, you can send a teaser or an overview of your deck. It should not be long as long teasers are often proved to be boring and it must not reveal all secrets of your business and ideas related to it.

You can think this in the angle of movie trailer. Trailers of movies always keep the audiences excited for the movie, just like that your teaser of deck will keep your investor excited about your business ideas.  It can help you to retain excitement for your deck.

Do not get scared to reveal some exciting features of your business but remember that your teaser should be like a marketing teaser. If this gets leaked you should not be feeling bad because you are not paying for this.

Do not get afraid of your teaser, because your teaser is only going share your thoughts and ideas regarding your business but it is not going to share the way you have done it. Right!

Let us take an example. Think this way, imagine that you have a chocolate making factory and your customers just love your chocolates. So you want to expand your factory by opening more factories in several places. So what you need? You need investors for that and obviously money also.

You can do one thing, you make a dozens of chocolates and send it to investors who would like to be your partner. After they finished tasting your chocolates, they said they just loved it and it is awesome. Their business deal with your chocolate factory is final.

So you see in this context, you just shared your made chocolates with your investors but you did not share the secret recipe or the process how you made it. Right! Now you can understand from this example that your chocolate factory is your teaser deck and you are not going to reveal your process of making the teaser or the so called ‘secret recipe’.

So now you know what you should send to a VC before your meet-up. Then what are you all waiting for! Go and prepare a killer teaser deck and surprise your investors with your business ideas.
