Radio Script

Introduction:
Radio is a way of communicating using radio waves. Radio can be used for numerous purposes. In the early 1990’s, they were used to learn about political happenings and things going around the world. These days they’re used for listening to music and also many radio shows impart knowledge to their listeners. In this article, I’ll be giving an example of how to write a radio script. This is an interview with two great personalities who have done tremendous work in the social field.

Script:
J – Good morning Bangalore! This is Joy and I welcome one and all to radio campfire. So today’s show is going to be very informative and I request you all to pay utmost attention to what is being said and if need be you can as well take down a few pointers/notes. So today we have with us, two very special guests, who have gained great popularity in their respective careers or work fields because of their hard work. Two very known social workers, we have Ms. Eden Everett, who is a Child Welfare social worker and we have Ms. Tessa, who works for children with disabilities. Hello and welcome to my show today. It’s an honour to have you guys here .

EE – thank you for having me.

TS – thank you for inviting us. It’s a pleasure.

J – So I’ve been wanting to invite the both of you for the longest time and it finally happened. I’ve heard a lot about you guys and can’t wait to talk to you further about things that are very important for one and all to know in today’s time.

EE – yes ofc.

TS – I’m excited!

J – So first and foremost, I’d like the both of you to introduce yourselves and talk a little about yourselves. We’ll start with Ms. Eden.

EE – Thank you, Joy. Hello everyone! I’m Eden Everett and I’m a child welfare social worker. I’ve been working in this field from the past 7 years and it’s been a great experience.

J – As we proceed, we’ll talk more about it.

EE – Yes, sure.

J – And Ms. Tessa?

TS – Yes thank you . Good morning everyone. I’m Tessa and I’m a social worker. I work for the children who suffer from various disabilities.

J – That’s great! Thank you for the introduction. So, I’d like you guys to ellaborate a little more and tell everyone what it is that you guys do and how do you help people?

EE – So since I specialise in child welfare assistance, what we do is we serve some of the most vulnerable children, youths and families. We specialise in building on the strenghts of families and helping them to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children and youths.

J – That’s interesting. And Ms. Tessa?

TS – Yes so, I specialise in helping children with any form of disabilities. We give them assistance and make sure that their environment is as healthy and friendly as possible.

J – Ms Tessa, so the field that you work in,the children are usually very introverted and most of the times they don’t like sharing with their parents about the abuse they suffer because of their disabilities or the difficulties they face! How do you deal with such cases?

TS – So I’ve been working in this field for about 8 years now and I’ve seen every sort of scenarios where the children had to suffer and some cases where the children brought it upon themselves that they want to be treated the way they’re being treated. So most of the children that I spoke to wouldn’t open up to me at first and they’d slowly start talking and sharing their experiences. But some were so traumatized that they wouldn’t even blink an eye, which was very painful for me to look at. But I’ve learnt different ways of communicating with such kids and I’m trying my best to help them in any way possible.

J – that’s amazing! So glad that you took the initiative to do so much research and to help them in any way possible. So Ms. Tessa, there are sometimes, a few cases where the parents give up on their children and keep demotivating their children, constantly reminding them of their disabilities and forcing them to accept that harsh and abusive behaviour that they experience instead of being their support system! What do you have to say about that!

TS – Yes that’s a very good question. About that, there have been also many instances where the parents would give up and they’d start showing their frustration on the children. So what we do is that we not only assist the children but we also help the parents of the children to understand their child’s legal rights. We help parents learn to be advocates and find special services that enable their children to be as independent as possible.

J – That’s so nice of you! I’m so glad that you take so much initiative to help them lead a better life, if not the best.

TS – thank you! That means a lot but I’m still working towards it! I’ve still got a lot to learn.

J – I hope the best for you.

TS – Thank you.

J – what about the services? Are they available at ease or how do you go about that?

EE – Yeah we have groups of social workers alloted in different states. We’ve tried to provide help and service across the country as much as possible and we’re still trying to broaden the network of helpers. We’ve also given out numbers that they could dial in order to receive help or merely even if they just want to talk about it. Any sort of help provided is very crucial and important for us.

J – That’s great. And Ms. Tessa?

TS – I think at the end of the day, if you look at it, though we specialise in different fields of social working and aid, we all comprise or fall under the same category that is social worker or proving aid. So I think when it comes to services, we follow the same pattern. We have groups that are 24/7 at service when required and we have the numbers given out, where the person if unable to meet in person, can talk about their problems and seek help because Joy, as you see there have been quite a few cases where the one suffering just needs someone to listen to him or her and that itself gives them so much peace and encouragement. So it is very important that we realize that even the tiniest amount of help, be it as mere as just listening to the one suffering, might be something very simple for us but in many ways it changes their life.

J – Absolutely true. Any sort of help that can be given out counts and is just as important as any sort of counselling or service provided .

TS – yes

EE – Absolutely. In fact, I’d like to point out that the children or youth I’ve helped these past few years have now taken upon themselves to help kids and youth who suffer from what they were suffering and I feel so proud of them for finally building up that courage and self-esteem to finally get over things or past experiences.

J – Thank you so much for the ending remarks. It was a please having the both if you on my show. I genuinely want to thank the both of you and your teams for the immense help and service you provide for those in need and help them live a happy and better life. And lastly, to all my beautiful listeners, don’t forget to be kind, spread love and always know that hating or looking down on someone will bring you no good. It’s better to realise from the past mistakes and strive to become a kind, empathetic human being. That is all for today. Thank you for listening, stay safe and I’ll meet you guys again next week.

Conclusion:
The above Radio script is just an example of how one could write a script. Just keep in mind that the questions need to be very clear and there must be no communication gap between the interviewer and the one being interviewed as that might confuse the listeners.

HOW TO IMPROVE WRITING SKILLS?

Writing is an art and not everybody could become an expert without practice. Maybe, everyone can write generally like blogging and things. But professional writing needs certain steps to be followed and practiced. It is not an inborn quality for anyone, it lies in the person’s interest to learn and master it. To stand unique from others and gain appreciation, the person should have a passion for writing from the heart. Here are few steps one could take and follow while writing.

  • HAVE THE HABIT OF READING

Read articles, blogs, and other kinds of stuff as much as you can. The more you read the more you get the ideas and intuitions to write properly. You will also get some inputs before writing. You can notice that it is easier to write after gaining inputs. Reading also helps to improve your vocabulary. One can start the practice of reading from the newspaper. When you read the newspaper, you could get to know at least 5 new words every day.

  • BRUSH UP YOUR BASICS

Before starting to write, revise the rules in English grammar and writing. Although you don’t need to complete a course on grammar, the basics are required. Build a strong basement with the basics of spelling and grammar. Grammar is very important while writing although it is not paid attention to while speaking.

  • RESEARCH WELL

Ensure you have made the necessary research on the topic. Reach out to the available resources of that topic, make a thorough study and note the key points that are required. This will make you more knowledgeable and you could write easily with a flow. Unless you know more about a topic, you couldn’t expand your ideas and write well.

  • PRACTICE WRITING

To improve your writing, do as much practice as you can. It is the only helper to mould you in the right shape. Learn to frame paragraphs and sentences. Try to bring a coherent sequence of sentences. When you write never doubt yourself or your skills. Don’t do it as a practice, think of it as your job and give your best every time you write. Take up workshops and internships until you feel confident and have become a passionate writer.

  • REVIEW AND EDIT

When you are writing, always start with the rough draft. Read what you have written and make the required changes to make it a better one. Check for spellings and grammatical errors. Edit the rough draft, remove unnecessary words, proofread and frame a fair copy. Try to deliver the content with simple words so that anyone who reads could understand it. Finally, check for plagiarism from the available online tools. This is essential to ensure that your work is not copied from other sources and is unique.

  • HAVE SOMEONE TO READ WHAT YOU’VE WRITTEN

Try to have a person by your side to read, guide, and organize you. The person may be your teacher, colleague, friend, or anyone with enough knowledge in grammar and the language to suggest and give a true opinion on your work.

These are some of the tips to become a better writer. Nothing comes without effort and so as any language. “Practice makes a man perfect” – so practice more and become a perfect writer. Start simple, make gradual increments and then master the art. Happy learning😊.

The crazy ball and the crazy me

Photo by NEOSiAM 2021 on Pexels.com

The balls above bring back memories. Don’t they? Well, they definitely do for me. When I was a kid, mobiles weren’t very popular and so we had to look for other sources of entertainment that included many board games, those plastic bats, plastic cars and later on those remote controlled ones, a soap bubble maker, stuffed cartoons and bears, cartoon characters in balloons and balls- football, stumper ball, leather balls, table tennis balls, plastic balls, even golf balls, balloon balls and my personal favourite -the crazy balls.

Well, what’s so special about them, you ask. Nothing much, except that once thrown they bounce back soo high and the fact that they come in such attractive colors- neon, green, pink, blue, a mixture of pink and blue, green and yellow and soo many more and the rubber like texture of the balls. You couldn’t help but love it.

And this one fine day, when I was out with my mother and visited a stationery, I saw these crazy balls. Not one or two, but a whole packet. I couldn’t believe they still sell this. Now-a-day, kids have so many sources of entertainment and when they do play outside, it’s usually in those professional stadiums. I thought they had stopped making them. So anyways, when I saw the packet, I couldn’t help but want one. With the best puppy like face I could muster, I looked at my mother and pleaded to have one. My mother looked at me in all her seriousness and she said and I directly quote- “Why do you need one? Are you a kid?”. It was when it stuck me, I wasn’t a kid anymore. I was supposed to be all serious and mature. But then again, feeling that child like excitement once again, after soo long felt strange but it felt soo good. I couldn’t help but want it- both that feeling and the crazy ball. And so I looked at my mother and said, “Yes, I am only a kid “. She smiled. What more could she have said and when I didn’t budge she allowed me to have one. Just like those old days, choosing one was soo difficult. There were soo many colors- neon, green, pink, blue, a mixture of pink and blue, green and yellow, red and green. I took the pink and blue ball and clutched it tightly in my hand all the way back home. The crazy ball sure has me crazy over it. So, gotta go. I still have to play with it. And so, if you ever come across any of those or any of your personal favourites, embrace them. Be a kid. Life is short, the pandemic has taught us this, but our childhood was even shorter. And we all miss it somewhere, sometimes. So when life gives you moments like these, don’t just sit and recollect. Go ahead and relive.

CLAUSTROPHOBIA

Claustrophobia is an anxiety disorder that causes an intense fear of enclosed spaces. If you get very nervous or upset when you’re in a tight place, like an elevator or crowded room, you might have claustrophobia. Some people have claustrophobia symptoms when they’re in all types of closed-up areas.

Claustrophobia is often caused by a traumatic event experienced during early childhood. For example, adults may develop claustrophobia if, as a child, they: were trapped or kept in a confined space. were bullied or abused.

Claustrophobia is very common. “Studies have generally indicated that about 7% of the population, or up to 10%, is affected by claustrophobia,” says Bernard J. Vittone, MD, founder and director of The National Center for the Treatment of Phobias, Anxiety and Depression.

Claustrophobia is treatable and people can recover from the condition. For some people, claustrophobia disappears when they get older. If it doesn’t, there are different ways you can treat your fear and physical symptoms, as well as manage your triggers to live an active and fulfilling life.

POLO

Polo is a horseback ball game, a traditional field sport and one of the world’s oldest known team sports. The game is played by two opposing teams with the objective of scoring using a long-handled wooden mallet to hit a small hard ball through the opposing team’s goal. Each team has four mounted riders, and the game usually lasts one to two hours, divided into periods called chukkas or “chukkers”

Polo has been called “the sport of kings”, and has become a spectator sport for equestrians and high society, often supported by sponsorship. The concept of the game and its variants date back from the 6th century BC to the 1st century AD, originated from equestrian games played by nomadic Iranian peoples. The sport was at first a training game for Persian cavalry units, usually the royal guard or other elite troops.A notable example is Saladin, who was known for being a skilled polo player which contributed to his cavalry training. It is now popular around the world, with well over 100 member countries in the Federation of International Polo, played professionally in 16 countries, and was an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1936.

Polo is played professionally in many countries, notably Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Iran, India, New Zealand, Mexico, Pakistan, Jamaica, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and is now an active sport in 77 countries. Although its tenure as an Olympic sport was limited to 1900–1939, in 1998 the International Olympic Committee recognised it as a sport with a bona fide international governing body, the Federation of International Polo. The World Polo Championship is held every three years by the Federation.

Polo is unique among team sports in that amateur players, often the team patrons, routinely hire and play alongside the sport’s top professionals.

The playing field is 300 by 160 yards (270 by 150 m), the area of approximately six soccer fields or nine American football fields (10 acres), while arena polo is 96 x 46 metres. The playing field is carefully maintained with closely mowed turf providing a safe, fast playing surface. Goals are posts which are set eight yards apart, centred at each end of the field. The surface of a polo field requires careful and constant grounds maintenance to keep the surface in good playing condition.

Divorce by Mutual Consent

Although it is believed that relationships are created in heaven, these heavenly ties do not always continue forever. Divorce is now seen casually, and individuals utilize it as a first choice, despite the fact that the law intended it to be a last resort. Many times, the partners in a marriage can no longer stand one other and cannot live peacefully together. In such situations, the couple may choose to divorce mutually. Mutual divorce occurs when both husband and wife mutually agree that they can no longer live together and decide to dissolve their marriage.

Essential Conditions of Mutual Divorce

  • Parties must be living separately – In order to dissolve a marriage by mutual divorce, the parties must have been living apart for at least one year prior to submitting the divorce petition. Living apart does not imply living in different locations. Living under the same roof as a couple but without sharing the bond of husband and wife qualifies the required requirement of living apart.
  • Parties are unable to live together – There are a variety of scenarios in which a couple is unable to live together despite mediation, reconciliation, and numerous efforts. In such a case, the couple can divorce by mutual consent. Following the filing of the petition, the parties are allowed a six-month cooling period, which can be extended to eighteen months. Both parties must ponder and examine their options during this period. If the parties are still unable to live together, the district judge should issue a divorce order.
  • Parties have mutually consented to end the marriage– In order to dissolve the marriage by a mutual divorce, both parties must have agreed to do so. The divorce petition is submitted jointly by both parties in the case of mutual divorce. The parties have the right to withdraw the petition at any moment. The petition appears to be withdrawable at the request of one of the parties within six months of the petition’s filing date. When a joint motion is adopted by the parties after the expiry of six months but before the expiration of eighteen months from the date of presentation of the petition for inquiry, the individual right of a party to withdraw the petition seems to be barred.
  • Parties must file for divorce jointly and without undue influence, fraud, or corruption– Both parties must have consented willingly and without pressure from the other parties to file for divorce. If neither partner is willing to file for amicable divorce, the party seeking divorce may do so using the grounds specified in Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act.

Advantages of Mutual Divorce

  • A divorce by mutual consent minimizes needless confrontations, saving both spouses time and money.
  • Maintenance and custody of the kid can be readily arranged by the parties amicably before the marriage is dissolved.
  • In this divorce, the court legalizes and agrees to all that the couple has talked and chosen.
  • Under this, the spouses need not explain the reason for divorce before the court of law.
  • It does not lead to any confusion or chaos between the parties regarding how the assets and liabilities will be divided between the couple.
  • If the divorce takes place amicably without any conflict the couple can continue to be friends rather than sworn enemies.

Procedure for Mutual Divorce

To get a divorce by mutual consent, one must follow several steps. In India, the process of mutual divorce usually begins with the filing of a petition under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. Two motions are also involved in this procedure. Following are the important steps:

  • Filing a Joint Petition– The first step is to file a joint petition in the relevant family court. This joint petition must be signed by both parties. Both parties sign a joint declaration in the divorce petition declaring that they can no longer live together due to fundamental disputes and should be granted a divorce. This declaration also includes a distribution agreement, parental rights, and other details.
  • The appearance of both the parties in Court– The second step involved is the appearance of both the parties before the competent court before which the petition is filed. The court fixes the date and on this date, parties are asked to present before the court with their counsels.
  • Court review of the petition– The court will review the petition as well as the papers filed by both parties. When the court is satisfied, it records both parties’ statements. In some situations, the court will attempt to mediate a resolution between the parties. When the parties are unable to reconcile, the divorce process begins.
  • Recording of the statement and adoption of the order on the First Motion– When both parties’ statements are recorded, the court issues the first motion order. Previously, the parties were allowed six months to reconcile. This six-month period can be extended to eighteen months, after which a second motion can be submitted. This is no longer a required requirement. In the case of Amardeep Singh v. Harveen Kaur, the Supreme Court waived the six-month cooling period if it was believed that both parties were committed to the divorce, there was no possibility of cohabitation between an estranged couple, and no alimony, child custody, or property issues were raised.
  • Appearing for Second motion– If neither party agrees to come together after six months from the first motion or by the conclusion of the reconciliation period, the parties may appear for the second move for the final hearing. This also entails the parties appearing in court and making remarks that are recorded. Both parties present their cases at the final hearing, and the court records their statements under oath in the family court.
  • The Court’s decision– The most essential condition for a divorce by mutual consent is the free consent of both parties. In other words, unless there is total agreement between the husband and wife for the dissolution of the marriage and the court is satisfied, the court cannot grant a decree of divorce by mutual consent. Based on the parties’ declarations as well as the facts and circumstances of the case, the court makes the proper judgments and dissolves the marriage. The divorce is then finalized when the court issues a divorce decree.

Conclusion

Divorce is a painful issue that should only be used as a last resort; nevertheless, many people nowadays do not hesitate to divorce. It causes family disintegration, and the kid of a divorced marriage suffers substantial stress as a result of growing up with split parents. The best way to divorce is by mutual consent since the parties do not have to publicly embarrass each other in court and may resolve any issues and dissolve their marriage willingly. From the time of filing until the finalization of the divorce judgement, the total mutual consent divorce procedure might take anywhere from 6 months to 1-1.5 years.

BASKETBALL

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately 9.4 inches (24 cm in diameter) through the defender’s hoop a basket 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter mounted 10 feet (3.048 m) high to a backboard at each end of the court) while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. A field goal is worth two points, unless made from behind the three-point line, when it is worth three. After a foul, timed play stops and the player fouled or designated to shoot a technical foul is given one, two or three one-point free throws. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but if regulation play expires with the score tied, an additional period of play (overtime) is mandated.

The five players on each side fall into five playing positions. The tallest player is usually the center, the second-tallest and strongest is the power forward, a slightly shorter but more agile player is the small forward, and the shortest players or the best ball handlers are the shooting guard and the point guard, who implements the coach’s game plan by managing the execution of offensive and defensive plays (player positioning). Informally, players may play three-on-three, two-on-two, and one-on-one.

In December 1891, James Naismith, a Canadian professor of physical education and instructor at the International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. He sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters. After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly suited to walled-in gymnasiums, he invented a new game in which players would pass a ball to teammates and try to score points by tossing the ball into a basket mounted on a wall.

Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball. These round balls from “association football” were made, at the time, with a set of laces to close off the hole needed for inserting the inflatable bladder after the other sewn-together segments of the ball’s cover had been flipped outside-in. These laces could cause bounce passes and dribbling to be unpredictable. Eventually a lace-free ball construction method was invented, and this change to the game was endorsed by Naismith. The first balls made specifically for basketball were brown, and it was only in the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, searching for a ball that would be more visible to players and spectators alike, introduced the orange ball that is now in common use.

THE VOLKSWAGEN NOBODY KNOWS!

You must have heard of the fact that companies are contributing to environmental degradation , though they don’t want to do that but no one can deny to the fact that they are indirectly into it. But their are many greedy companies who , without even taking concern of the environment are contributing to degradation of it . Volkswagen is one among such companies , let’s see what they have done .

VOLKSWAGEN AG , known internationally as the Volkswagen group is a German multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Wolfsburg , Germany . In the early 1930s, cars were a luxury – most Germans could afford nothing more elaborate than a motorcycle and only one German out of 50 owned a car. Seeking a potential new market, some car makers began independent “people’s car” projects – the Mercedes 170H, BMW 3/15, Adler AutoBahn, Steyr 55, and Hanomag 1.3L, among others. The Volkswagen emission scandal began in September 2015 when the US Environment Protection Agency issued a notice of violation of clean air act to Volkswagen group . According to the agency Volkswagen intentionally developed a software named TURBOCHARGED DIRECT INJECTION (TDS ) diesel engines , to active their emission control only at the time of testing in the labs which causes vehicles Nitrogen output to met US standards , BUT in reality emits 40 times more nitrogen in air in the real world .

They developed this software in 11 million cars of which 500,000 were in US only . Research were done & a group of scientists detected that there is additional emission in road test . Within the first day of investigation the stock price of VOLKSWAGEN fell in value by one by one third . Its CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned from his post & many officials were suspended .

In April 2016 , Volkswagen announced to spend $18.32 billion to rectify the emission issue & in January 2017 , Volkswagen pleaded guilty to criminal charges & after investigation process , in April 2017 , US government ordered the company to pay $2.8 billion as criminal fine for breaking rules of nitrogen emission . The total cost of the scandal costed $33.3 billion in fines , penalties , & financial settlements & buyback cost of VOLKSWAGEN .

This proves that the greediness of one company can bring harm to whole ecosystem . As business is a part of society , business should perform function to bring peace in the environment by not polluting it . It should serve the mankind & society as well. Volkswagen by realizing their mistake pleaded themselves guilty shows that one the mistake is done you should work to rectify it instead of hiding it .

Generation Gap

Maya Angelou quoted, “I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life. ” It is indeed the truth. Lately I have been thinking a lot about relationship between parents and child nowadays.

Though we love our parents more than anything in this world and so they do. It is of no question that our parents took care of us and will always do, no matter how old we become. But, don’t you think that these days parents-child conflict are increasing way too much? What could be the reason behind that?

The first thing that comes in our mind is obviously generation gap and it’s true. Why generation gap? It is basically age gap between parents and children. However, the major issue arrives due to the mental gap in terms of thinking and current trends. These days, children, mostly teenagers believe that they are grown-ups and it’s high time for them to be independent. This helps them to gain more self-esteem. On the whole, both parents and children do not see things from the standpoint of each other and thus leads to conflict.

Some teenagers feel that their parents should trust them and give them freedom but they also know that parents are more concerned about their safety, which sometimes make children irritated.

Technology also affects the relationship between them. Technological ability is also important. Parents might not learn technology as quick as teenagers and when they try to learn from them, they get impatient. Our world keeps changing and developing, things rarely stay the same, causing generation gaps between the parents and their children.

Below are some of the significant points which need to be understood.

• Parents often do not tolerate mistakes and tend to tell their children off. They need to understand that this is their learning phase and making mistakes will make them grow in life, but if they only get punished for it, it widens the gap and creates a lack of proper communication.

• Children are expected to be replicas of parents often have dreams for their kids. They should not impose their wish on them without knowing what they want.

• Comparing children to each other or telling them how you were as a child also widens the gap. Due to this, they lose confidence and enthusiasm they may previously had.

• Lack of understanding is also the major cause. Listening and understanding what a children is trying to convey could be a good step. But, it is lacking these days. Parents often feel like because they have already been the age their child is currently, that they understand how their child thinks. They should understand things have changed from then to now.

Now, how to solve these problems? Here are some ways :

  1. Keep an open mind – The way that kid think is different from how parents do. Keeping an open mind and not assuming that they are same as you were at their age is very important. You must also understand that there are some things that are acceptable in society and therefore acceptable to your child that may not have been acceptable when you were the same age.
  2. Communicate – Taking out time to communicate with your kids will be very helpful. Your child must feel comfortable to talk to you about anything. The children must be assured that they can approach their parents with anything and can speak freely without any fear. And this way parents need not to worry about their children hiding thing from them.
  3. Listen – Parents need to allow their kids time to talk without interruption and listen to what they have to say. Learning your child’s thoughts and opinions makes them feel like what they want or feel matters to you, which in turn makes them feel much closer to you than before. Having a parent who listens as well instead of only talks and lectures will give your child more encouragement to listen to you in return.
  4. Understand – With listening comes understanding and this means that you have to learn to put yourself in your child’s shoes and trying to understand how they feel and what they want from what they tell you. If you are able to understand where your child is coming from, you will be able to close that generation gap to some extent.
  5. Unconditional Love – Love has a way of crossing boundaries and bringing people together if acted upon. So show your children how much you love them. This unconditional love and support that they get from you is very encouraging and makes children more inclined to show that same love and understanding back.

In the end, I would like to mention that children should also treat parents with love and affection because they did and are doing a lot for you everyday that is unnoticed. Your one word of affection can make their day. No matter how miserable you feel while they’re scolding you, never stop respecting them.

Adolescent problems

Introduction:
Adolescence is a stage occuring from puberty to legal adulthood. It’s a transition of physical and psychological development. It also means being a teenager. During this stage, teen-agers start finding an emotional distance between them and their parents. This might happen due to many reasons such as, them finding difficult to speak up about their problems or they’re already convinced that their parents won’t understand their feelings. The fear of not being understood is huge in this age group. This is the main reason teen-agers tend to be more closer to their friends as they think that because they’re of the same age, they will be heard and understood. In this article, I’ll mainly be talking about the different kinds of problems that adolescents face such as negative body image, peer and parental pressure, extreme stress.

• Negative body image:
Negative body image is a state where adolescents do not accept them for who they are and try to change the way they look or their appearance. This can create a lack of self esteem in children. There are many factors which can affect the way a child looks at themselves like their body type, height, weight, etc. Body image issues are actually quite serious as they affect how a teen feels about themselves. If a person is not confident about how they are or how they look it might affect their day-to-day activities too. When we talk about negative body images this also includes eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

• Peer pressure:
Peer pressure is when children are forced to do something they do not want to do. Sometimes they end up doing things they do not want to do to fit in order to be a part of a group. It could be stealing or drinking or smoking etc. It could also be possible that a teen and soft following a Very respected senior of friend of theirs to a club just because they looked up to that person and then mistreated there which could negatively affect the adolescent. Pure pressure is when I get involved in things they wouldn’t do it if they were alone.

• Parental pressure:
Parental pressure is when teams are expected to do something that they physically cannot. Parents give children really high standards and are expected to meet them, but the children are unable to do that and that causes extreme stress. Sometimes, teens even end up losing their lives over worrying about their parents as they’re afraid to confront their parents because they believe that their parents would be disappointed in them for not meeting their set standards. This could result in low self esteem and self hatred.

• Extreme stress:
Stress can be in the form of anything. Every child is different and therefore they might have different types of trigger or their tolerance towards situations is different. So, the only thing adults can do about it is to understand them and help them get through tough times in a calming way and not pressurise them even more.

Conclusion:
As I mentioned earlier, the only way to help teens is to let them take things at their own pace and try to be their friends whenever necessary. Don’t judge them all the time. Don’t compare them to other kids as that can affect them negatively and could create a distance between you and your child.

Well, It’s geographically strange…

Hey you all there!!

Here are some facts, I heard or read somewhere and it stuck my mind as strange or unique or interesting and I thought that why not share them with you all. And so here we go-

  1. If most of the sunlight falls on the equator then naturally the oceans in this region should have the highest temperature. But, it turns out that the temperate region’s oceans waters have the highest temperature. And here’s why. The temperature at the equator is high but so is the average yearly rainfall. The higher rainfall sort of counter balances the high temperature. But the rainfall at the temperate regions isn’t that high and so the overall temperature there is higher.
  2. The Norwegian sea lies near the Arctic ocean and its neighbouring countries include Iceland, Greenland and Russia. But, even after being in such a low temperature zone, the water of Norwegian sea doesn’t freeze in winters and the ships are still able to pass while those travelling through Russia aren’t. Well, it is due to a warm oceanic current that goes by the name of Norwegian current that keeps the water way above the freezing point.
  3. The northern part of the Indian ocean experiences both clockwise and anti-clockwise direction of ocean current and it is a feature of the country’s seasons. It was a reason of flourishing trade as well as inter-mixing of the Arabian and the Indian people as the ships travelling had to wait for the seasons to change so that the currents could effectively be used to travel.
  4. Japan has a very high land area as mountainous and a very small area of land. Combine this with the steep continental shelf of the nearby Pacific ocean and the meeting of warm and cold oceanic current, it provides for a very good fishing ground. It is why the Japanese people have a staple diet of fish (in addition to some cultural reasons).
  5. Most of the world’s active volcanoes are concentrated in the Pacific ocean in the ring of fire that is a junction point of several tectonic plates, followed by the Mediterranean sea.
  6. The South pole has a lower temperature as compared to that of the North pole. It is because south pole is a land region surrounded with water and the land region has high altitude mountains that help in lowering the temperature. Most of the ozone holes occur in this region.
  7. The Pacific ocean is sinking and after some million years, it won’t be the largest ocean of the world. Oh! And the Atlantic ocean is expanding, all a result of tectonic plate interaction. This is also why the Himalayas in our country is growing(at the rate of 1 cm/year, though the rate might be soon slowing down as the collision between the Eurasian and Indian plate is slowing down.).
  8. 31 December in Alaska is 1 January in Russia. Now, you know what to do if you happen to stumble upon in Russia during the new year’s eve.

Well, this is all in ‘geographically strange’. If you all like it, I will do a part 2 . Next in this series is ‘biologically strange’. So, stay tuned..

ENRON SCANDAL : VOILATION OF BUSINESS ETHICS

Business ethics is the study of appropriate business policies and practices regarding potentially controversial subjects including corporate governance, insider trading, bribery, discrimination, corporate social responsibility, and fiduciary responsibilities. The law often guides business ethics, but at other times business ethics provide a basic guideline that businesses can choose to follow to gain public approval.

ENRON corporation was an American energy commodities & service company based in Houston , Texas . It was a merger between Houston natural gas & inter north . Founder of ENRON was Jeffrey Skilling & Kenneth Lay . Earlier they used historical cost accounting method , A historical cost is a measure of value used in accounting in which the value of an asset on the balance sheet is recorded at its original cost when acquired by the company. But in 1992 , this company started using Mark to market method , Mark to market (MTM) is a method of measuring the fair value of accounts that can fluctuate over time, such as assets and liabilities. Mark to market aims to provide a realistic appraisal of an institution’s or company’s current financial situation based on current market conditions , with the help of this method only they did the whole scandal . The fraud was , they took loan from banks & other corporations , but didn’t show them in their books of accounts . They bought a MEDIATIOR , SFS ( special purpose vehicles ). They sold their assets to SFS & in return SFS asked loan from the banks . But they didn’t showed that they sold their assets in their books of accounts . They took loans , raised their capital & did the fraud of billion dollars .The value of shares of ENRON raised from 20$ to 90$ . The whole scandal was they hide the losses , showed fake revenues & profits , used complex accounting methods & did unethical things with the books of accounts by manipulating them .

But in 2001 , scandal burst , ENRON suffered a loss of 618 billion $ . Company did the scandal of 70 billion $ . Many investors , general public & employees suffered huge losses . Company’s one time Chief Jeffrey Shilling was sentenced to 24 to 24 years in prison in 2011 . Business ethics enhances the law by outlining acceptable behaviors beyond government control. Corporations establish business ethics to promote integrity among their employees and gain trust from key stakeholders, such as investors and consumers.

Amidst growing scrutiny of business practices, it’s more important than ever for companies to carry out work the right way. Ethics programs are an exceptional tool for promoting moral conduct. Organizations also need employees dedicated to ethical decision-making.
