Badminton – The Underrated Racket Sport

https://in.pinterest.com/

Have you ever compared the ratio of the number of spectators binging on cricket or football to that of badminton? I bet most of you already know the answer to this. The inclination is more towards the prior two than the latter.

The society still claims badminton to be predominantly a female sport. It originated way back in India during the British colonization. Due to facts like the shuttlecock is made out of light & soft feathers & the sport doesn’t require a lot of strength to play it got tagged so. But even though the sport was mainly attended by the men, in the beginning, it later gradually got favoured more by the females more.

But as we see modern society breaks off the stereotypes by proving themselves with some serious actions on-board. As we see Saina Nehwal shares no less spotlight than Srikanth Kidambi in the sports world.

So if you’re a beginner, this is all you need to note into your mind before beginning the game :

  •  ‌Warm-up before the game

Prepare your body with some good warm-up exercises. Ideally, you could start with a gentle jog around the court or some skipping. Once your pulse is raised and your body is feeling warmer. As the game involves a lot of stamina & reflex movements. So one might end up cramping themselves without proper warm-up exercises.

  •  ‌Check the racket grip & shuttlecock flight

So rackets of 85-90 gms are considered as lightweight and recommended for beginners. This helps one in quick reflex strokes and recovery & easy on your wrists and shoulders, reducing the chances of injury. Poor quality or faulty and should be avoided as it may reflect the improper projectile motion of the shuttlecock.

  •  ‌Keep a central base position

By positioning yourself in the middle of your area of play you are more likely to focus & reach over the whole area.

  •  ‌Be prepared for any outcome

As badminton is a fast-paced, unpredictable game you must be prepared to move in any direction at any given time. So it is important to know your body’s limitations.

  •  ‌Game planning

Strategize your game. This needs psychological make-up before playing. When starting out with minimal skill, try to understand your opponent’s psychology and use their weakness to your advantage and catch them out.

As in any sport, choosing the right shot is essential to excel in Badminton. If you are a beginner, then you need to know the five essential badminton shots – Clear, Drive, Drop, Smash, Net – to step up your game.

Every game should be treated sportingly. It is the golden rule in sport. Don’t hype up upon victory neither feel depressed upon losing. The spirit of a true player lies upon learning from every experience they face. Take an account your weaknesses & tackle them accordingly. Build a strong profile by indulging in practice sessions if you want to seek it as your career.

Issues Faced by Women in India

Every woman, independent of class, caste and creed, has faced some level of difficulty because of their gender. These difficulties are not new, the female gender has faced them for a very long period of time all over the world. Even today, women are far from being recognised as equal which is not because of their capabilities but rather because of the social, political and economic discrimination and oppression that they have faced. This is reflected by India’s 122nd (out of 162) rank in Gender Inequality Index published by the United Nations Development Programme as per 2019.

About a hundred years ago, women had to battle a completely different and more severe set of problems. This included female infanticide (deliberately killing a newborn girl) which is still practised in some rural areas across the country. Child marriage was also widely popular which also led to many teenage pregnancies. It was in 1929 that child marriage was banned by law which was revised in 2006 to extend women’s age of marriage from 14 to 18. Dowry, even though no longer permitted by law, was and still remains prevalent in India. Other practices which are no longer widespread are the Sati Pratha (widow, willingly or forcefully, burning to death in her husband’s pyre), honour killings, no inheritance or property rights, et cetera.

In rural as well as urban areas, women do not have the position they deserve. This is due to multiple problems, some of these problems that demand immediate eradication for the growth of women in the society are:

-Patriarchy

The root of discrimination against women, patriarchy poses the toughest obstacle to overcome. The belief that men are superior to women is not only accepted by most men but some women have also internalised this mentality. Men, not wanting to give up their privilege, have continuously oppressed and prevented women from obtaining the position they deserve in their homes and society.

-Violence and other crimes against women

Apart from being seen as inferior beings, women also face safety related issues. Physical violence is quite common in India, the rate of domestic violence (violent behaviour towards women typically by the male members of the household) is as high as 33.5% for the age group of 15 to 49. Emotional violence has an equally negative impact as it affects the mental health of women. According to various reports, psychological abuse is as common as physical abuse. Crime rates against women are soaring. Sexual violence, murder, rape threats, dowry-related abuse and other crimes have become so common that women feel threatened even in their own homes.

-Lack of freedom

In today’s world, freedom and independence hold extreme importance. It is unwise to be financially dependent on others after a certain age. But the societal constraints do not let women escape from the ongoing circle of subjugation towards social or financial empowerment. Upon reaching a ‘proper’ age, women are often forced into arranged marriage, regarded as ‘paraya dhan’ (estranged asset) by their parents, burdened with the responsibility of taking care of their in-laws and husband, forced to leave their jobs for bearing a child and, then, cursed if it’s a girl. At their male-dominated workplace, they may be sexually assaulted, given lower pay than men, discouraged by family members from working, feel unsafe at work or while travelling to work, face difficulty in getting maternity leaves, have no period leaves, along with many other serious issues.

These are just a few injustices that women face in their lives. It is high-time to rise and demand practice of equality and empowerment of women.

As Kofi Annan once said, “There is no tool for development more effective that the empowerment of women.”

“AGRIOTA” opportunity for Indian farmers

AGRIOTA is an ecommerce platform to connect the agro traders and Indian farmers. The geographical and environmental conditions of UAE are not suitable for growing crops with in the country so it is completely dependent on import. Whereas India is a one of the largest producer of agricultural products. AGRIOTA is a recently launched portal which connects farmers and traders of UAE without any intermediate or agent. It is a very good opportunity for Indian farmers to do business and have good income.

Shopping trends are changing rapidly everything is shifting to digital sellers and buyers are getting connected directly. Not only AGRIOTA but also many other e commerce platformso like Amazon ,JIO mart ,flipkart and groffers are there which can be a good marketplace for agro products. This will not only improve the economy of the country but also improve the social lifestyle of Indian farmers they will be able to afford good medical facilities and their children will get good education and will contribute towards nation.

The Indian government should run awareness campaign to educate Indian farmers about the opportunities in digital selling and ecommerce and provide adequate aid and facility to the farmers so that can produce agro products in good quality and quantity. In the recent GDP report of first quarter Agriculture was the only sector to show positive growth rate. Agricultural sector have full potential to make India one of the strongest economy in the world.

A Walk to Remember book review

This was my first Nicholas Sparks and surely this one compelled me to read more of his works. Being a rapacious reader I can say he is one of the best romance novelist.
“A walk to remember” is a 1999 release by famous American author Nicholas Sparks. It has a page count of 240. It was later turned into a 2002 movie of the same name.

The story is narrated by the protagonist, Landon Carter. He is 57 years old and is reflecting on events from his past.
“Love is like the wind, you can’t see it but you can feel it.”
Nicholas Sparks

The book is all about the unexpected love story that happens between the two teenagers Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter. So there is this guy all egoistic and the type that goes around bullying around his fellow schoolmates and then there is this sweet cheerful girl, daughter of the church minister. Love seems unlikely but you know opposites attract and henceforth the story begins.
Landon was supposed to act in a play so he asked Jamie to help. They spent a lot of time together and ended up falling for each other when they did not want to. Everything is fine but one fine day Jamie tells Landon a bitter secret about herself. This very plot twist tests their love for each other. They stick together till the end making this one of the sweetest love stories
According to me if one loves to read romance then this ones got to be on your list.
“First you will smile, and then you will cry — don’t say you haven’t been warned.”
Nicholas Sparks

Health Issues Based on World Health Organisation’s Publication

Last few months I have completed, six courses launched by World Health Organisation (WHO) and thus I have received few videos, materials, links etc. from WHO.  Based on ‘World Health Statistics 2020: A visual summary’ published by WHO, few important points are presented here for the benefit of readers, academicians and scholars. Since this article is based on international publication so researchers can use for further research.

Before starting of the discussion, it is pertinent to mention that, all human beings desire to survive with healthy life. Long ago, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore wrote a beautiful Bengali poem and from there one line I am quoting in English alphabet “Morite chahi na ami sundor bhubone…Manober majhe ami bachibare chai” (meaning in general is ‘in this beautiful world I don’t like to die, rather would like to survive among the human beings’). For leading a healthy life, all the Governments in the world have been trying their best for their citizens by spending a good amount from Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on health. In addition, World Health Organisation (WHO) has been doing excellent work in this area as we know its role during COVID19 crisis.

In 2005 a new concept has been developed by the World Health Organisation known as the International Health Regulations (IHR, 2005), an agreement between 196 countries and territories to work together for global health security. They are a commitment to develop and improve public health capacities that make the world ready to respond to emerging public health emergencies. And for this purpose, 13 indicators have been prepared and for the benefit of readers I am presenting all:  Legislation and financing, Coordination and focal point, Zoonotic events, Food safety, Laboratory, Surveillance, Human resources, Health emergency framework, Health service provision, Risk communication, Points of entry, Chemical events and Radio nuclear emergencies. The IHR scoring system exists to measure a country’s ability to prepare for and respond to these health emergencies. Anyway, according to World Health Organisation, “the global outbreak of COVID-19 will have an unprecedented – and as yet unknown – effect on our work towards a healthier world”. “This year’s World Health Statistics report makes clear that the global efforts in recent decades have been fetching good result”.

According to me first important point from the publication is concept of Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE).  Life expectancy gives an indication of how long a population is expected to live on average. But Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) reveals the true health of a person. It’s about both length of life and quality of life. Not just the number of years the average person lives, but the number of years they can expect to live in good health. And the inspiring news is that, “between 2000 and 2016, HALE increased globally by 8% from 59 years to 63”.

Since 2000, the risk of a child dying before their fifth birthday has halved in the African region. This is due, in part, to gains made in vaccination coverage for specific diseases. From 2000 to 2018, global coverage of DTP3 (Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis) immunization has increased from 72 percent to 86 percent. During the same period, MCV2 (Measles-containing-vaccine second-dose) immunization coverage has gone up from 18 percent to 69 percent. Also from 2008 to 2018, PCV3 (Pneumococcal conjugate 3rd dose) immunization coverage has scaled up from 4 percent to 47 percent.  But according to the publication under-5 mortality remains a major problem in Africa, where the rate is more than eight times higher than the European countries (in 2018). Another point is about the maternal death. The death of women as a result of complications during or following pregnancy and childbirth reflects the global inequalities in access to quality health care.  In the world, between 2014 and 2019, 81 percent of births were attended by skilled health personnel. The issue lies with African countries as Africa’s data is 525 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births which is seven times greater than the target.

Further, according to the publication, incidences of HIV, TB and malaria have decreased globally since 2000, yet they still pose a major threat. Indeed, progress in the fight against malaria has stalled in most regions since 2014 but HIV has increased in Europe and Eastern Mediterranean compared with 2000.

Before conclusion, I wish to mention that, “the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the need for global cooperation to improve population health. In order to achieve the health targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is critical that we monitor progress on all fronts to reduce inequalities, address climate change and strengthen health systems, so that no one is left behind”.

A Thousand Splendid Suns book review.

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”
A thousand splendid suns is a fiction by Khaled Hosseini. The book has approximately 380 pages(hardcover) published in 2007.

Read this book if and only if you can tolerate extreme sadness.
It is a story about women of Afghanistan. It follows the life of two women Laila and Mariam. Mariam is the daughter of a wealthy business man, Jalil. She lives in a small cottage with her mother and is sent to her father when her mother commits suicide. She is soon married off to an old shoemaker Rasheed.
“Marriage can wait, education cannot.”
Khaled Hosseini.

On the other side Laila is a girl born on the night the Soviets take over Afghanistan. Life is normal. She attends school and dreams about marrying her best friend cum crush, Tariq. Tariq’s family decides to move to Pakistan since it’s all a chaos and cruelty in here. They go away. Laila’s family is supposed to go too but some stray rocket kills her parents. She is taken care by Rasheed and Mariam. Laila comes to know that Tariq is dead. Rasheed being obsessed with Laila asks her to marry him. Guess what… she agrees(because she is pregnant with Tariq’s child). She plans to escape the hell hole anyways. At first Mariam looks at her as a rival but then both befriend each other through Laila’s daughter Aziza and joins them in their escape mission. Sadly they fail.

Laila later has a son with Rasheed named Zalmai. Due to financial crisis Laila had to send Aziza to an orphanage. One day when she came back after visiting her she finds Tariq waiting for her. She is surprised to see him alive. They talk about all that has happened ever since he left.
Rasheed finds out and beats up Laila.(well that was his pass time!) Women supporting women, Mariam kills Rasheed and saves Laila.
Laila along with Tariq and the kids move to Murree and Mariam stays in Kabul to take the blame of Rasheed’s death and be hanged by the Taliban. At the end of the book we find out Laila is pregnant with another child and plans to name the baby Mariam if it is a girl.

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs,
Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”
Khaled Hosseini.

Thank you for reading. Have a nice day!

BULLYING – A DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR

Whenever we see a person making fun or play a prank on someone, we’ll probably snort or grin and say that guy is joking around but what about the person whom he/she made fun of? Was that person fine with it? Personally, no one cares, mostly because they don’t understand the real meaning of the term “Bullying”. Bullying is when someone is picked on by a person/group or someone who uses their power to harm or control a person. Bullies might make fun of somebody who they believe doesn’t fit in or seems like they are weak and cannot stand up for themselves. Some instances of bullying are spreading rumors, social status, appearance, threatening harm, sexual identity, religion, and one major kind of bullying where these bullies posts mean texts or nasty photos online known as Cyber Bullying.

The aftermath of bullying can be horrifying. It can cause depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, lack of self-confidence and self-respect, lose interest from their work, or worse become a bully. Bullies can be kind and fake – this bully might act like your buddy so you tell them things, but later do harmful things behind your back. The outspoken and aggressive one might make fun of you to your face or physically hurt you and secretive and tricky. This bully might attempt to maneuver in secret. They might anonymously begin a damaging rumor just to witness what happens. Bullies are all similar to one another they don’t care about anyone, like to control others, are often vulnerable, and threaten others to make themselves feel great.

We can help a person who has been bullied by observing if there is any unusual change in behavior or attitude. Try to find out the circumstances and see if these changes usually take place during the use of digital devices or after coming from school, college, or workplace. Don’t sound too inquisitive, but gently engage that person in a conversation. Take him/her into trust and try to understand what is happening, when it all began, and who is all into this act. Immediately file a complaint with the police in case that person is receiving sexual or physical intimidations, or you sense an illegal activity or violation underway.

If you are facing this issue, then ignore the bully and walk away. They normally like to get a response, so just show them you don’t give a damn. Always remember how much ever they provoke you do not get into a physical fight. You are better than them. It may help if you’ll talk to your parents, teachers, or friends or anyone who can give you the aid you require. Avoid being alone, stay with your friends who will back you up. Don’t forget self-confidence is the key to stand up against the bullies. Most people who bully others were once a victim, too. Try to talk to them and make them understand that all human beings are different and no matter what you should respect others.

Women participation in equity markets grows during Covid-19 pandemic

Women participation in equity markets has surged during the pandemic and experts believe the growing need to share household expenses with rampant pay cuts and lay-offs has brought them to trading.Additionally, women are looking for alternatives to the decreasing bank’s fixed deposit (FD) rates, they added.Interestingly, most of such women are first time investors and a large number of them are housewives.”As retail participation has grown during the lockdown, this has been true for women as well. In line with the overall investors population, women are looking for alternatives to decreasing FD rates,” said Shankar Vailaya – Director, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas.”Lockdown has just been an accelerator allowing women to deepen their capital market knowledge via digital solutions,”Vailaya added.Online brokerage house Upstox said it has witnessed a growth of 32 per cent in account opening by women from April to June 2020, compared to the preceding three months.Of these, 70 percent of women are first time investors. Additionally, more than 35 per cent of the brokerage house’s women customers are housewives.According to Upstox, around 74 per cent of female customers are from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities like Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, Surat, Ranga Reddy, Nagpur, Nashik, Guntur, among others.Out of the overall number of active female customers, 55 per cent are traders, whereas 45 per cent are investors (those that invest in equity delivery). It has seen a jump in active female customers by 53 per cent from April to June 2020, as compared to preceding three months. Nikhil Kamath, who co-founded Zerodha and True Beacon, said they have added 11 lakh clients since March 1, 2020. Of these, women clients are 1.8 lakh. He further said the average age of such women is 33 years.Tejas Khoday, co-founder and CEO, of FYERS, said in the last four months the stock broking fintech startup acquired over 20,000 new customers, of which 10 per cent were women traders. But, the overall traffic online includes 15 20 per cent women traders. Moreover, they are more inclined to invest than trade. In terms of expectations, Khoday said women want high profits in a very short period of time without too many entry/exits. But this could also be because most of them are first-time investors.

COVID-19 enters in the Bollywood Industry:ARJUN KAPOOR testes positive

The actor announced in an Instagram post on Sunday. Sharing an update about his health, Arjun Kapoor wrote that he is “feeling okay” and is “asymptomatic.” The actor also revealed that he has “isolated” himself at his home and will be “under home quarantine” till his recovery. I have isolated myself at home under the advice of doctors and authorities and will be under home quarantine. I thank you all in advance for your support and I will keep you all updated about my health in the days to come.”These are extraordinary and unprecedented times and I have faith that all of humanity will overcome this virus. ..Much love, Arjun.”As the number of COVID-19 cases is rising in India, after Arjun Kapoor declaring on social media that he has tested positive for Coronavirus, ETimes now has it first and exclusive that Malaika Arora too has tested positive. Her younger sister, Amrita Arora has confirmed the news with us. Arjun had been sharing regular posts on Instagram through the lockdown, asking them to stay safe. He recently shared a compassionate video where a person is seen taking care of a stranded dog sleeping on a pavement. Arjun will next be seen with Saif Ali Khan in Bhoot Police and with Rakul Preet Singh in a romantic film.

Books are always the best

Most of the time books are better than movies. Books can let you imagine the setting or events happening in the story. Movies tend to last about two hours and books take their time and last longer. Movies rush things so that they can end it fast and there. Not everyone has access to movies or can afford going to movie theatres but books can be borrowed at the library or from a friend.

Scientists at Stanford University proved that the process of reading trains the cognitive abilities of the brain. This effect doesn’t occur when watching TV or playing computer games.

When we read a book, we tend to visualize the characters a certain way and in movies they don’t look like the way we want them too. It disappoints us in many ways. I’ve read books before that have a plot twist at the end and in the movie it never happens. If you want to know a certain people’s culture better, you’d better read their books. Watching movies would be not preferable in this case.

When you start a novel, you dive into a whole new world and set pictures of the characters and settings in your mind. But this is not true in case of movies. You are blocked to that particular level of settings on the screen. Plus, the actors are the ones you usually already know, and their previous work reflects in your mind. You may also not like a part of the cast or the whole of it for some reason.

With a book J.K. Rowling can spend 10 pages describing a magical candy store and your brain is engaged. Your mind creates the world that is described before you. It’s a very active process. It’s intimate. It’s just you and the author. You’re sharing something private.

Now it’s a movie. Do you want to spend 10 minutes of the movie looking at the shelves of that magical candy store? You’d be bored out of your mind. Why? Well, the experience has gone from an active one to a passive one. Now you’re being shown that store, and maybe it’s not the way you imagined it would be. That’s not the way you thought that character would look or sound. He didn’t have that weird laugh. Also, what happened to that other character or event that was in the book? They left that whole part out and that’s sad.

You can have morals in books that don’t exist in movies b/c studios need mass appeal,Books make you think in ways that movies don’t usually trigger,Reading gives a quicker wit to the mind then movies which produce a sort of numbed brain effect. Which is not inherently bad,You can read anywhere.
Once Ray Bradbury said that-
You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”

The Father of Indian Cinema

Satyajit Ray, Lata Mangeshkar, Dilip Kumar, Sivaji Ganesan, Asha Bhosle, Yash Chopra, Dev Anand, K. Balachander, Amitabh Bachchan are the list of Indian cinema legends who were honored by the Dadasaheb Phalke award, which is India’s highest award in cinema for “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema”. The man behind the name of this prestigious award is Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, an Indian producer-director-screenwriter, known as the Father of Indian cinema.

An overall of 95 feature films and 27 short films, in his career, spanning 19 years, he is known as the Father of Indian cinema for writing, directing, producing, and distributing his debut movie, which is also India’s first movie Raja Harishchandra in 1913.

As a child, Phalke displayed great interest in the creative arts. Determined to pursue his dreams, he joined the Sir J.J. School of Art, Bombay (now Mumbai), in 1885. While there he pursued a variety of interests, including photography, lithography, architecture, and amateur dramatics, and he became adept even at magic. He briefly worked as a painter, a theatrical set designer, and a photographer. In 1908 Phalke and a partner established Phalke’s Art Printing and Engraving Works, but the business failed because of differences between them. It was Phalke’s chance viewing of the silent film The Life of Christ (1910) that marked a turning point in his career. Deeply moved by the film, Phalke saw it as his mission to bring all that was Indian to the moving picture screen. He went to London in 1912 to learn the craft from British pioneer filmmaker Cecil Hepworth. In 1913 he released India’s first silent film, Raja Harishchandra, a work based on Hindu mythology.

While there are news about him like, He had given several advertisements for seeking handsome actors for the lead role. But, these advertisements brought inadequate and non- professional talent and so, he was forced to add a line “ugly faces need not apply” and the miserable failure of his firm, the Phalke Diamond Company, a model studio to train technicians, actors. He made many more movies including renowned works like Mohini Bhasmasur in 1913, Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918), and Kaliya Mardan (1919). which paved the way to the cinema industry we have now.

In recognition of Phalke’s contribution to the Indian cinema, the India government instituted the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1969, an award presented annually by the president of India for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.

Why bollywood is destroying itself by Remix.

“Ye khaan aagye hmm, yunhi saath saath chlte” that’s exactly what we feel when we listen today’s songs. If this is what we say evolving is, then Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!..

Hello everyone, This blog is dedicated in favour of retro songs and also stand firm for there justice. We have to come together, we have to, otherwise these new released songs will just destroy everyone’s taste and make them move towards English songs. We can’t let them do that.okay!
See, I’m not against of english songs but I just don’t want anyone to go for it just because bollywood doesn’t have some.

Those famous lyricist like Javed Akhtar ji,  Sameer, Gulzaar sahab.. all have performed greatly in the industry and also given us many evergreen masterpiece. But, you know it was never only the lyrics that made the song popular but the singers too like, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Lata mangeshkar. They use to sing a particular song for 25 to 30 times, to present it in a fabulous way to you all. There was nothing like auto tuner in those days, just try to imagine how hard it was and so the hard works payed. They got fame for there work. And now a days, these so cold rappers using those cheap words and not only using it but repeating it many times in a single sentence, actually there whole sentence is repeated in a song which makes it awful are getting fame just like that. Who’s fault is this??

It’s not like they all are bad but those rappers are good only if they go for there separate albums. So, we can’t blame this whole on them,ok! Like they are bad but it’s us who are encouraging them to do this. And after that we just hit the dislike button but that particular songs legacy is already been destroyed. We can’t let them do that, we can’t. We need some good Songs. There are few non rappers who are literally good like Gajendra verma, Darshan Raval and Arjun Kanungo, Deno james etc.

Some of you must be fan of NEHA KAKKAR and his brother Tony Kakkar. So, let me just clear you that being in trend doesn’t make something look good. Ok! Otherwise, Go for Binod.

So, we have stand firm for our choice. If we hate listening those remix then don’t just dislike it but make them realize that we are not going to accept anything like this. And also because, Old is Gold.

Let’s make a pact among us and make them Learn ” Don’t destroy our beloved Songs”. There’s many things I want to say but I think I made my point clear till now.

So, drop down your views on this blog and also on this topic. And also tell us your way to Stop them in destroying our favourite Bollywood songs.

See yaa.

Poverty – Not just a word but someone’s entire Life

Article by – Shishir Tripathi
Intern at Hariyali foundation in collaboration with Educational news

“Overcoming poverty is not just an act of charity, but an act of justice”

  • Nelson Mandela
First black president of South Africa
    Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Human beings have started to live in the world of multi storey buildings ,limousines, air conditioned rooms, fancy 5 – star restaurants and having everything right at their hand by just throwing money on this which they want. They have forgotten the real essence and the real meaning of life.

Everyone says that one must live a really simple life, grounded to reality and believing in simplicity. But there are just few people living with the same level of simplicity. On one shore, there is a carefree life filled with all the luxuries and facilities but on the other side there is a world of hunger, a world filled with a daily challenge to just earn a onetime meal and a world with everyday complications to not die with hunger and other problems.

Poverty is a situation when an individual is not even able to pay for his basic needs i.e., food, clothing and shelter, sanitation, education and health care.

Moving ahead from the above definition, it is the inability to live a normal life. It is the state of having not a roof above your head in rains. It is something so unwanted that no one really wants to talk about it except the ones who in actual know what it is by either suffering from it or those getting closer to the people facing it.

In India there is a concept of poverty line. Those who are living above the poverty line are the ones who are non poor and those who do not meet the criteria of the poverty line are considered to be poor.

The old formula for estimating the poverty line is based on the desired calorie requirement. The calorie needs vary depending on age, sex and the type of work that a person does. The accepted average calorie requirement in India is 2400 calories per person per day in rural areas and 2100 calories per person per day in urban areas. Since people living in rural areas engage themselves in more physical work, calorie requirements in rural areas are considered to be higher than urban areas. On the basis of these calculations, for the year 2000, the poverty line for a person was fixed at Rs 328 per month for the rural areas and Rs 454 for the urban areas.

Recently, some modifications were made considering other basic requirements such as housing, clothing, education, health, sanitation, conveyance, fuel, entertainment, etc, thus making the poverty line more realistic. This was done by Suresh Tendulkar (2009) and C Rangarajan in 2014.

The Tendulkar committee stipulated a benchmark daily per capita expenditure of R27 and R33 in rural and urban areas, respectively, and arrived at a cut-off of about 22% of the population below poverty line. These numbers were considered unrealistic and too low. Later, the Rangarajan committee raised these limits to Rs.32 and Rs.47, respectively, and worked out poverty line at close to 30%.

India has been ranked at the 103rd position among 119 countries on the Global Hunger Index, says a report. According to the report, India is among the 45 countries that have “serious levels of hunger“. As per the methodology of the Suresh Tendulkar Committee report, the population below the poverty line in India was 354 million (29.6% of the population) in 2009-2010 and was 269 million (21.9% of the population) in 2011–2012.

And also, not all people above the poverty line are the ones who are living a normal life. These criterias are just techniques to find out average number of poor and needy people. But in reality there are many people who can’t even manage a square meal and a pair of clothes for covering the whole body.

Moving ahead of figures, it is solely not the government’s responsibility to help the needy citizens in the country but also those who are in better positions, they should also come forward to help the needy people living in the world of darkness.

Many politicians and Bollywood personalities have just simply adopted some villages with poor sanitation facilities and other problems. Some people help in eradicating poverty by helping the needy ones getting some jobs and also setting up of small production units encouraging employment for the women living below poverty line.

Adopting a healthy life style with a blend of proper habits of not wasting food, giving the extra or short clothes to the needy people and many more techniques that a common middle class person can follow and contribute in the eradication of poverty from the country.

A small step by an individual can fill a stomach; can cover a naked and shivering body, can give a roof above a family and can help building a nation with no person living in the world of poverty.

Pollution

A word which we hear frequently never give that much importance that is required, usually we ignore the news related to pollution, we are not aware of the environment and the pollution related to it. While starting the article it’s important to define what is pollution, where is this pollution takes place, how to resolve this problem, what statutes are made by the legislature for the protection of the pollution. In this article, pollution is defined as, the presence of the harmful and poisonous substance in the environment, it can be in the soil, water, air, which causes distraction in the environment, the pollution is the problem which we ignore usually but that creates a huge distraction, like the presence of oxide, nitrate in the soil in the excessive amount creates distraction in the soil, water, and atmosphere. Pollution is the issue which we ignore very simply but its excessiveness also harms human life. The question comes to our mind where is this origin starts of the pollution. The basic answer of this problem that the pollution is starting when humans start to interfere in the environment creates excessiveness of the things, like industrialization, contamination, use of excessive vehicles which creates pollution like related to noise, deforestation all these factors increase the pollution in the environment. Due to which wildlife is also get affected deeply and many of the species are rare on the earth, many species of bird, black panther all come under the rare species. When we deal with this topic it’s not easy to end here with the simple word pollution. Pollution of water creates a distraction in the water bodies, it creates pollution in the water body due to industrial waste presence, it creates eutrophication in the water bodies. The example of the water pollution is the Ganga and Yamuna are the rivers, which are beautiful and holy but such industrial waste creates huge distraction due to which government have to start the plans like Ganga plan and the Yamuna plan, just to make aware the society about it. The Government also makes plans regarding the use of vehicles in Delhi, just to reduce the air pollution in Delhi. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE SOMEONE?

The answer to this question is not as easy as we think. It’s not defined in a single word nor even a sentence but it depends upon certain reasons that a person changes its personality or not. For this topic is not easy to answer the question just with the single ‘yes’ or ‘no’ because it differs from person to person. Usually, we can say that person change its personality when it gets influenced with others, having some sort of pressure, when the person itself wants some sort of growth then it brings a change in its personality but its not easy to say that we can change someone, its depends and differ from person to person to change its personality or not. In this article try to cover the major aspect that there can be any possible reason to change the person and other major factors which can help in it. The change is so easy to adapt as Darwin’s theory of evolution itself says the change brings and we as a human being are adaptive towards it. That change was morphologically and anatomically but we as a human being become more civilized creature on the earth. Now when we talk on this topic in this article, here we are not dealing with the personal appearance but we are dealing with the inner soul of it. That can a person can purify its inner soul and brings better in it. Here we can say that it’s not in the hand of the other person to change one’s personality it completely depends upon the will and choice of the individual. For instance, we all have siblings in our family those were very notorious and naughty in their childhood as they attain the age of 14 -24 they suddenly change their choices, ideology and many more but some of them remain same and not that much mature towards their responsibility. From here we can understand that its completely depend upon the choice of the person. Certain factors can change the personality to some extent but not always like-

Friends and followers- we all agree that we have a single or more than one friends some of them are very close to the heart remaining of them are just good friends, having a friend, follower in our life is like the oxygen for the survival. Usually, we find the company according to nature and personality but if we accidentally found persons who are opposed to our nature than we start finding that much happening in that company, it creates a kind of undue influence in our mind which starts brings a change in our society, but at the same time when we have good company and people around us we change accordingly have some kind of enthusiasm in our life and surrounding. We can also say our society can also play a major role to change someone, the criticism and appreciation can bring the change in the personality.

Pressure – usually we ignore this here in this article pressure doesn’t refer to the atmospheric pressure, but it refers to the pressure we feel in our day-to-day life. The pressure we feel in the workplace, the pressure of studies, all these can lead to change in the one’s personality.

Learnings – usually we earn the good things from any of the sources whatever it is, either from a preacher or from the professor anyone can give the good learning in our life to lead the way and happy life. It not only related to any person but it is related to books, books can bring knowledge because we can say that books are the true friend of an individual.

Self-care and meditation- both these are interrelated to each other when a person performs mediation it brings an energy to its inner soul, it reduces the stress which is a most important thing for the person to lead a good and happy life.  Form this we can understand the major aspect that brings a change in own’s life but it completely depends upon the individual to change accordingly, nobody can force the person because it is not correct morally, each and everybody has its rights and duties and also have their own choice to lead their life we can help them to differentiate between the right and wrongs but not have in a capacity to change the personality. So, in my view and after going through with this topic I can say that the person’s choice to bring change in its personality or not, nobody can force to bring change in the individual.
