Davangere, the heart of Karnataka has history of 1200 years geographically, historically, culturally, socially, linguistically and politically. It is a unique place in Karnataka. It is situated at an altitude of 602.6 meters above sea level. The temperature throughout the year ranges from 25 to 35 degree Celsius.

Dental science is an important integral branch of modern medical sciences. Today’s dental surgeons are trained not only to treat dental diseases but also to diagnose and treat diseases occurring in the entire orofacial region, ranging from dental caries to periodontitis to oral cancer. Keeping this in mind, the Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia has an ambitious vision of continued growth and development over the coming academic years. 

The BDS course offered by Amrita School of Dentistry commenced in September 2003 and was inaugurated by Smt. Sushma Swaraj, the then Minister for Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India.

A dental section was started in Department of General Surgery of J.N. Medical College with a single dental chair. This section was separated from General Surgery Department in 1986 and was given a status of Department of Dental Surgery. The Department of Dental Surgery used to treat patients suffering from Oral & Maxillofacial Disorders. Prof. S.I.H Rizvi was the first Dentist to join the Department.

Established in 1985, the A.B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, is duly recognized by the Dental Council of India for the Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses it offers. It also has the privilege of being recognized by the Malaysian Dental Council and is an affiliate of Okayama University Dental School Japan and Academic Mentor to Oman Dental College, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

The Faculty of Dental Sciences (FDS), earlier known as M S Ramaiah Dental College and Hospital has had a humble beginning in 1991. The Faculty of dental sciences offers undergraduate, post graduate, certificate and doctoral programmes in the broad areas of dental sciences including implant dentistry, and aesthetic dentistry.

The Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital is a Government dental college located in Kolkata, in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is recognised by Dental Council of India.[2] It teaches Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) courses in various specialty.

Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute was established in the year 1985 as part of the Sri Ramachandra Educational & Health Trust under the leadership of Shri N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar.

The S.D.M. College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad, founded in the year 1986 is a self financing, non profitable organization with a vision of excellence in knowledge, skills and service.

The Christian Medical Society running the Christian Medical College and College of Nursing felt the need to start a course in the dental discipline. The need was given shape by an American Missionary Dr. J.J Fason who visited India in 1968. 

Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Nagpur was established in 1968 to fulfill aspirations of students to obtain professional \”education and growing demand for education in dentistry in this region.\”Initially it was affiliated to the University of Nagpur.The college has been recognized by the Dental Council of India. 

 Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai is one of the premier institutes of India imparting Dental Education and Services to the country as well as abroad since its establishment in the year 1938 till today. The Institute has been named in the Top Three Dental Colleges in India by the Outlook Magazine for the past 7 years.

Nair Hospital Dental College, a living legend in itself is not just a structure build with bricks but is the union of innumerable hearts and souls of Nairites. It was an idea conceived in the mind and thoughts of late Dr. V. M. Desai in 1933, that has completed 75 years. Our college which started during the British rule has seen the pre and post-independence era, sailed through the storms and has appeared shining Platinum. It appears as if it has just happened yesterday; that a baby is born and today it has matured to become 75 years old. In the beginning it was just a part of National Medical College today which is known as Topiwala National Medical College.

This department came into existence in the Institute of Medical Sciences in 1972. At the moment the department offers only post graduate training in Prosthodontics and in Operative Dentistry.
