MUST-READ TWO BOOKS BY PAULO COELHO – 2

Paulo Coelho wrote many best-selling books most of which are popular all around the world. And translated in various languages. One of his masterpieces is Alchemist. All of his works are related to self-help and motivational genres.

Book: Veronica Decides To Die

Veronica is a young woman who commits suicide due to being full of emptiness in her life. While she waiting for death after taking a lot of sleeping pills she fainted and found herself in an asylum alive. But Doctor said that she has only a few days to live due to a heart condition caused by the overdose. Her presence there affects all of the mental hospital’s patients, especially Zedka, who has clinical depression; Mari, who has panic attacks; and Eduard, who has schizophrenia, and with whom Veronika falls in love. At least she wants to live or not is the key base of this novel.

Why you should read this book:

This one is not a boring plot, book content moves slow still does not let you drop the idea to read it. And this contains good vocabulary which is worth recommending to every reader. If you ever tried or at least thought once to end your life read this one it will make you believe in Miracle.

Book Quotes:

People never learn anything by being told, they have to find out for themselves.

You are someone who is different, but who wants to be the same as everyone else.

You have two choices, to control your mind or to let your mind control you.

Note: This book is also adapted as a film by Emily Young in 2009.

Book: The Spy

Mata Hari, the beautiful woman, the dancer, the courtesan, and the spy. She was the center of attraction wherever she goes… As a dancer she delighted her audiences, as a courtesan, she bewitched the richest and powerful men of the era. But is she really a spy?

Why you should read this one:

This book is based on real events. Mata Hari is a real person who is accused of espionage and executed.

On the back cover, it says, “Fiction.” But, I would rather love to say it’s a historical work.

When a man sleeps with many women, do we care to say any terms? So, I can’t criticize Mata Hari for being a courtesan.

In this work, I can visualize how men treated women as an object during those time. They gave preference for outer appearance. They wanted their wife to be loyal. But, those rules aren’t for them. And those things made my heart shrunk.

Book Quotes:

I decided to be who I always dreamed of. And the price of a dream is always high.

When we don’t know where life is taking us, we are never lost.

At this moment, I look back at my life and realize that memory is a river, one that always runs backward.

Recommendations:

I don’t recommend both of these books to children especially if you are younger than sixteen. One book contains intimate scenes and another one contains sexual harassment scenes. Thus I would like to recommend these to elder readers who are more than sixteen.

A Space Dream

Yesterday when I lay asleep, a magical force lifted me from my bed and I found myself floating towards the skies rapidly. I saw the pale blue sphere that I was leaving behind. Earth never looked so magical before. I took a spin around the moon and marveled at the craters. I passed through the rings of Saturn and played hopscotch on the red soil of Mars. I made a snowman on the icy surface of Neptune. I saw the Milky Way from afar and was awestruck by the vast expanse of our Universe. I rode on the meteors that went whooshing by and saw pulsars and quasars. I almost got sucked into a black hole but pull myself away in time.I danced on the glowing surface of Venus and visited mercury.I took a spin around the sun without a single hair singed. After witnessing all the beautiful sight,I started feeling homesick. I slowly drifted back to the pale blue planet that we call home.Full of memories from the visit,I hoped to take another trip soon.Soon I was laid back on my bed and I drifted back into sleep.

Which countries are open for Indian tourists.

Destinations such as Maldives, Croatia, South Africa, Switzerland, Russia, Lebanon, Germany, Ukraine, UAE, Turkey and Iceland have started allowing non-essential travel, subject to vaccination or other conditions.

India’s biggest online travel portal, MakeMyTrip, has seen a 35% jump in searches for international leisure packages in July compared to that in the previous month, with the Maldives and Russia ranking high on the list of preferred destinations.

“As positivity rates drop, we hope it encourages more countries to open their borders to Indian travellers,” said Vinay Malhotra, regional group chief operating officer, South Asia, Middle East and North Africa and Americas at visa processing firm VFS Global.

Aloke Bajpai, group CEO at Ixigo, said search enquiries on the company’s platform for travel to overseas destinations have seen 80-85% increase in July as compared to last month. “With several countries easing travel restrictions, interest in leisure international travel to countries such as the Maldives, Switzerland, Germany, Qatar and Turkey is rising,” he said.

Some countries such as Qatar and Switzerland require a full vaccination certificate (Covishield) from Indian travellers. Iceland has given an option to travellers to either submit a full vaccination certificate or a Covid-19 recovery certificate. Unvaccinated travellers can travel to countries such as the Maldives, Russia, Germany, Turkey, Nepal and Ukraine by providing a negative RT-PCR report issued within 72 hours of departure.

To cash in on the increasing interest, SOTC Travel has introduced a range of offers such as ‘Buy One Get One Free – Get your Companion’s Holiday Free’ for overseas destinations. Daniel D’souza, country head for leisure at the company, said the most popular destinations in terms of enquiries include Dubai, the Maldives, Russia and Switzerland. The company has seen a 35-40% increase week-on-week in enquiries, he said.

Kanika TTekriwal, CEO, JetSetGo Aviation, said travellers are still conscious about the high likelihood of contracting the virus via regular flights. As a result, her private jet and helicopter services company has been seeing 10-12 booking queries each day since air travel suspension was lifted for the Maldives and some European countries.

Movie Recommendations – Romance/Drama

American Beauty

Sam Mendes’ debut film and eventual Best Picture Winner at the Oscars is an incisive, deliriously funny and profound vision of the American Dream hitting meltdown. “American Beauty” is about mood, not plot. Sadly, the mood is despair, isolation and hopelessness. Lester (Kevin Spacey), who narrates this riveting film, informs viewers at the beginning that he will be dead by the end but the film itself helps understand why this tough decision is made as well as why it seems like a it sadly isn’t the worst option. ⁣

⁣Lester’s life seems like the perfect one, he has a respectable job and a family. But he is slowly but surely falling into a deep depression. This new struggle in life that he is facing leads him to do outrageous things, and becoming infatuated with his daughter’s friend, Angela, seems to be the most impactful thing.⁣

Carol

Mara and Blanchett make for an unforgettable couple in a beautiful film about longing, loss and the confusion and wonder of love. This movie will haunt you with its tale of love denied and forbidden, and a woman’s quest to live authentically while facing social prejudices and bigotry that force her to make a difficult choice. Haynes’ commitment to outcasts, then and now, makes Carol a romantic spellbinder that cuts deep, it is based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt, the Oscar-nominated film is a triumph of its lead actors in particular.⁣

⁣Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara) works at a department store in Manhattan where she encounters the beautiful Carol (Cate Blanchett). Things take an unexpected turn when Therese develops strong feelings for Carol and is trying to figure out how to deal with these emotions without ruining her entire life.⁣

Movie Recommendations – Thriller Genre

Shutter Island

This neo-noir film marked the 4th collaboration between the great Scorsese and DiCaprio. An enthralling psychological thriller based on a 2003 novel by the same name. Arguably, it runs along the same lines of that of Nolan’s Inception, where we are left with an aching mind as we over-analyze and try to make sense of the reality of these characters. The strongest asset of this film is the character commitment. From DiCaprio, to Ruffalo, to Ben Kingsley – they draw us into this sense of fear and irrationality needed to carry the intrigue the film requires. One that when viewed a second time, you wish you picked up the clues along the way during your first. ⁣

Two US marshals are sent to an asylum on a rainy, remote island to investigate the disappearance of a patient. The trip uncovers shocking truths about the institution and its newest guests.⁣

The Courier

Based on the true life of Grenville Wynne, this thrilling dramatic, cold-war era spy film does not need to exaggerate to impress. Benedict Cumberbatch’s nervy performance makes him the perfect actor to be casted for this role. His journey from an everyday salesman to a courier for the US Government divides the film into two halves, the latter half darker and more intense. Required however to evoke the trauma and angst the moments deserve.  ⁣

An unassuming British businessman is recruited into one of the greatest international operations in history. Under the organization of the MI-6 and CIA operatives, he forms a covert, dangerous partnership with a Soviet officer in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear war. ⁣

Movies From The Past – 1

Sense And Sensibility

Unraveling the plight of women in both love and money in the 19th century, this 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility ignites the pull between heart and head. Set in the early 1800s, the cinematography of this film is telling of its 1990s production. With that in mind, I watch and re-watch this for the beauty of the set, location and characters. Before Titanic, Winslet captured my heart here with her portrayal of Marianne, providing the perfect balance of naivety and strength. Emma Thompson graces the screen with the elegance she always brings, as Elinor. Although changes have been made from Austen’s first published work of Sense and Sensibility, this film brings the story of romance, sisterly bonds and betrayal to life. ⁣

⁣Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret are cast out from their beloved home and lavish lifestyle after the death of Mr. Dashwood. Marianne falls in love with the wrong suitor and Elinor denies her feelings for another. This film encapsulates the romance, loss, betrayal and realization of finding love in a world built for men.⁣

The Artist

“The Artist” is a movie for people who love movies. It is a touching and mostly silent movie with a musical soundtrack about an aging film idol, a peppy young actress and the passing of the silent-movie era. For a silent movie, this French salute to Hollywood’s transition to talkies in the late ’20s sure has some interesting things to say, it is simply irresistible. More than a skit, this is a lively and lovable comedy that’s full of personality and charm. This glorious film won Best Picture at the Oscars and is enhanced by brilliant performances.⁣

⁣Peppy Miller falls in love with the silent film star George Valentin. Things change when Peppy becomes a famous actor while George’s career goes downhill with the introduction of talkies.⁣

MONEY HEIST : A Phenomenal Thrilling Series

Money Heist LACASA DE PAPEL is one of the phenomenon series I have watched with never ending suspense, romance, crime and adventure. I literally binge-watched entire seasons non-stop with snack breaks. The Dali masked and red jumpsuits, had great impacts around the world symbol of “THE RESISTANCE”. Its hard to give an idea how captivating and binge-watch this show is.There are loads of surprising plots and twists to keep you on the edge.

This is a show about a group of robbers who take the near impossible task of robbing ” The Bank Of Spain”. Everything revolves around robbing the bank with ‘THE PERFECT PLAN’ by mastermind being “The Professor” [Alvaro Morte]. What makes this intresting is the depth of the characters with flaws but still you will make an instant emotional connection with them.

There are some good looking and wonderful actors, Alvaro Morte[The Professor], Alba Flores[Nairobi]. My personal favourite is Tokyo[Ursula Corbero], the most volatile character in the show. She seems like she is going to ruin the whole plan at any moment but she has her own ideas to make show more thrilling. She keeps you high and glued to edge of yor seat. She has a great suspense coming in every minurte.

There are two heist set which has push the bar to the heighest and the show is intriguing and more than worthy enough to watch.

SEASON 1: PART 1 AND 2 [2017]

It begins with a failed bank robbery by a woman “Tokyo” by ” Professor” saves her from police. The heist begins on the Royal Mint Of Spain in Madrid. The eight robbers are plced aby “Mastermind’ dressed in red jumpsuits and wearing a dali mask. Flashbacks througout series show the five month preparation in Toledo. The first season revolves around ROYAL MINT ,hostages, voilence, romance and mutiny. The season is about how will the robbers safe their life and escape from Royal Mint , will the professor will be caught. The drama and never ending suspense continues and hold you till end.

SEASON 2: PART 3 AND 4 [2019-20]

It begins with the story will the robbers live or die. It has great suspense about the life’s of robbers, hostages and the”Professor”. What is the story ahead of robbers and hostages, is the story of survival or revenge?.

There are some very emotional moments. Emotional moments does not mean sad but passionate anger, love making, anger, compassion, loosing someone dear, victory, failure, etc. There is this beautiful cheering song “Bella Ciao”. It is the soul of the show thats holds everything beautifully. It has a very catchy suspense that keeps lingering in your head. It is like songs that you can’t avoid while doing anything.

I can’t say anymore without revealing any spoilers. You don’t want me to do that, do you ? So, I would recommend you to watch this, if you haven’t, tell me your favourite character in comments below.

I hope you are staying safe, in your homes, stay strong anf lots of power to you.

Thankyou for reading! 🙂

BOBBY (1973): The Game Changer of Teenage Romance.

Why is the movie considered as Hindi Cinema’s first teenage love story?

1970s ‘India’ witnessed lots of socio-economic happenings like unemployment, poverty and corruption and so were the plots of most of the movies of that era based on classism, social injustice, divide between rich and poor and so on. Although the genre “love story” was mostly ignored, the film “Bobby” in 1973 came out as an exception. Directed by Raj Kapoor and produced and distributed by R.K. Films with Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in lead roles, the film is altogether a masterpiece. Not only is it considered as a benchmark of Hindi Romantic Cinema but it also completely redefined the genre, thus breaking the earlier notions of typical family drama love stories.

Film Poster of Bobby (1973).

The movie begins with six year old Raj, son of a rich business person who is sent to boarding school leaving behind his governess, Mrs Braganza in grief. After completing his studies in boarding school, Raj (played by Rishi Kapoor) returns for his 18th Birthday party where his eyes are stunned seeing a girl in a white gown, who’s apparently his governess’ granddaughter, Bobby Braganza (played by Dimple Kapadia). The next day, Raj visits Mrs.Braganza’s home, who’s in a better economic condition than before and gets to meet Bobby. The two subsequently develop a friendship and liking towards each other. Not very long before they had their first break up following a misunderstanding at Raj’s friend’s party which they sort out later during Bobby’s Kashmir school trip.

Slowly, both of their parents come to know about their affair and Braganzas are invited to Raj’s home for a dinner party by his father. However seeing the social condition of Braganzas, Raj’s father brutally mocks them leading Braganzas shattered. He doesn’t stop at that and visits Braganza’s residence to again insult them by providing them money to get rid of the Raj and Bobby’s relationship. He then fixes Raj’s marriage with another rich businessperson’s disabled daughter without telling Raj. Raj, however, runs away and this time Raj’s family along with police accuse Bobby’s father with ‘kidnapping’. Both Raj and Bobby’s family chase the couple and with no option left Raj and Bobby decide to jump in the river but are rescued by each other’s dad. The film has a “happy ending” with unification of two families.

How this film brought a change in the genre and why it remains a trendsetter?

It is probably Bobby, which introduced teenage romance in Hindi Cinema. Before this film, love story in the context of Hindi Cinema was only restricted to a grown up adult man and woman mostly in their late 20s who fall in love and marry or how typical Indian families indulge in arrange marriage and how the couple start loving each other after marriage. Bobby was one of the first Hindi films which showed teenage romance in a very entertaining and engaging way. There is an entire song in the movie titled “Hum tum ek kamre me band” (English: We both are locked in a room) where it is shown how the young couple (Bobby and Raj) accidentally get locked in a room, which proves that the movie was way ahead of its time. The film is also known for its exquisite closets varying from fairy tale gowns to dreamy jackets. Shot in spectacular locations of Goa, Mumbai and Kashmir, it was all soothing and added more to its glory.

The film was specifically made for the youth and Bobby being the debut film of both Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor added more to its freshness. The film had so much of impact on youth that during that time 14-15 year olds used to rebel against their parents to find true love and eventually the film became “template” for teen romances in India. The audience and Indian public were so fascinated with the movie’s character Bobby that many girls born in India during that time were named “Bobby”. Interestingly, this movie’s plot was replicated consequently in several other romantic Hindi films for over three decades.

The typical “happy ending” stories as mentioned earlier also became a trend ever since. Almost every popular love story in Hindi Cinema had a similar plot thereafter and that too in a proper sequence- first romance of a teen couple from different economic classes, followed by severe family restrictions and finally the climax- either happy or mournful. These narrative elements like family restrictions and classism became genre conventions ever since the release of Bobby.

Hannibal Lecter : The Greatest Villain of all Time

One of the great villains created in the past 50 years is Hannibal Lecter, in the movie The Silence of the Lambs, from the book by Thomas Harris, Red Dragon. The original film created from Harris’ book, entitled Manhunter, going on in the films that followed, and has given us a bar to reach for as far as villains are concerned. Hannibal the Cannibal was one of the key characters that inspired audiences to clamor for stories, movies and TV that feature him, Manhunter, The Silence of the Lambs, sequel and two prequels: HannibalRed Dragon and Hannibal Rising, and a relatively successful NBC television series, Hannibal.

Characteristics

Some of his characteristics are obvious; he is a murderer and eats human flesh, which is gruesome. In exchange for some freedoms, Hannibal cooperates with FBI profiler Will Graham, offering information to hunt down a killer on the loose. There are several facets that contribute to Hannibal’s draw, not just his smarts and charisma, ruthlessness and perversion, but he also has his own bizarre code of ethics. His intelligence is revealed to the audience not only in the way he manages and negotiates for himself, escapes imprisonment, in his ability to accurately track down the killer, but also in the insane rationalization for his bizarre behaviors. He kills people he thinks commit insufferable crimes, but also those who insult his cultural sensibilities. He tries to kill Mason Verger just because he was rude while his therapy session.

Chilling Quotes

Hannibal Lecter portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen

His humor and intelligence are weapons he wields with facility at will. One of his most famous lines in Silence of the Lambs shows Clarice Starling exactly the lengths to which he will go to satiate himself. “A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.” “Killing must feel good to God too. He does it all the time, and are we not created in his image?” “I do wish we could chat for longer but I’m having an old friend for dinner.” Saying stuff like that while keeping a straight face makes Hannibal Lecter a charming yet terrifying person.

Performances

  • Brian cox played Lecter in 1986’s Manhunter. Manhunter centers on Will Graham, a retired criminal profiler who seeks an incarcerated Lecter’s assistance after being recruited to hunt down a new killer known as “The Tooth Fairy”. Cox’s Lecter is much more low-key and less charismatic than Anthony Hopkins’ version.
  • Gaspard Ulliel, a French actor and model, as a young Hannibal in 2007’s Hannibal Rising, which reveals the cannibalistic serial killer’s backstory. Unfortunately, Hannibal Rising earned bad reviews, and is almost unanimously considered the worst movie featuring Lecter. Ulliel’s Hannibal doesn’t at all seem like he would grow up to be the man we saw in the Hopkins films, and also looks and sounds absolutely nothing like Hopkins.
  • Mads Mikkelsen: If there’s anyone in Anthony Hopkins’ league when it comes to playing Hannibal Lecter, most fans would argue it’s Mads Mikkelsen, star of NBC’s Hannibal TV series. Many Lecter fans were skeptical of a new take on the character, especially one on network TV. Those same fans were taken aback at just how great Bryan Fuller’s series turned out, and how spellbinding Mikkelsen proved to be in the role. While Hannibal was never a ratings hit, it lasted for three highly acclaimed seasons.
  • Anthony Hopkins: One of the greatest suspense thrillers of all time, The Silence of the Lambs adapted Thomas Harris’ sequel to Red Dragon, which in many ways boasts a similar setup. FBI rookie Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) is tasked by boss Jack Crawford with seeking the help of an incarcerated Hannibal (Anthony Hopkins) in order to track down a killer dubbed “Buffalo Bill” (Ted Levine). The Silence of the Lambs went on to clean up at the Oscars, and make Hopkins’ Hannibal a pop culture touchstone. Hopkins would reprise the role for 2001’s Hannibal, which saw Julianne Moore take over as Clarice, and return again for Red Dragon, which saw a redo of the Lecter/Graham story with Edward Norton as Will.

Surekha Sikri Passes Away

Veteran actor Surekha Sikri passed away today at the age of 75 due to cardiac arrest.

Surekha first appeared on the silver screen in the 1978 film Kissa Kursi Ka. From there on, she went on to gain acclaim for her roles in films like Govind Nihalani’s Tamas, Shyam Benegal’s Mammo and Sardari Begum. In the 90s, she prominently featured in television shows like Banegi Apni Baat and Just Mohabbat.

It was her time at TV show Balika Vadhu that made her a household name amongst the masses. She played the role named Kalyani Devi who rules with an iron fist but gradually softens up towards the protagonist Anandi.

The 2018 film Badhaai Ho, for which she also won a National Award, had fans applauding her time on the screen. The Amit Sharma film had her playing the role of a women who comes from an orthodox background but is ready to embrace the new world.

She was last seen in the Netflix anthology Ghost Stories where she starred alongside Janhvi Kapoor in the Zoya Akhtar directorial. Sikri played a bed-ridden patient who is lost in her world.

Many Bollywood celebrities paid tribute to the late actor. Many TV actor including Sidharth Shukla, Sushant Singh, Avika Gor, remembered Surekha on social media. Her manager said that “Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”

Brief History of Hindi Cinema.

In the course of its long history, the Hindi Cinema has gone through constant evolutions and is still witnessing massive socio-cultural changes, however, from substantive and insular point of view; the Hindi Film Industry still retains its own unique and peculiar characteristics. Since the beginning, the Hindi Cinema has drawn its inspiration from the styles and aesthetics of the mega diverse Indian culture.

In general great emphasis has been put on classical Indian traditions over the years including Indian storytelling, epics, and poems and like. Although movies came to India in July 1896 as famous French Lumiere Brothers screened their short films in Watson Hotel, Mumbai, the first ever Indian film was ‘Raja Harishchandra’, a mythological film released in 1913 directed by Dada Saheb Phalke, who is often called as the father of Indian Cinema.

Film Poster of Raja Harishchandra, 1913.

Raja Harishchandra being a silent film had Hindi, Marathi and English interfiles. In 1905, filmmaker Hiralal Sen documented “Swadeshi Movement of India” and screened it at Town Hall, Calcutta on 22nd of September which is considered as India’s first political film. H.S. Bhatavdekar’s first movie and the first film by an Indian Filmmaker was shot in 1899 in which he shot a Wrestling Match in Mumbai’s Hanging Gardens. By the 1930s, the industry was producing 200 films per year and it was in 1931, the industry had its first sound film named ‘Alam Ara’ by director Ardeshir Irani which had a mixture of both Hindi and Urdu.

Alam Ara, India’s first Sound Film. (1931)

Since then the talkie films quickly were in high demand by the audience mostly in big cities and hence the industry permanently switched to sound films. The first ever Hindi color film was released in 1937 by Ardeshar Irani named “Kisan Kanya ”, however the colour films became popular among the audience only in late 1950s and early 1960s. The industry has also witnessed the breakdown of the studio system and complete on location shooting over the years. At present, Hindi Cinema produces over 1000 movies per year.

A still from Kisan Kanya (1937).

The Song and Dance Sequences

As mentioned earlier, the Hindi movies have always been a reflection of Indian culture and so hasn’t been any Hindi movie without a song till date. Two of the major characteristics of Hindi Cinema are songs and dance sequences. In fact, these two unique features are considered as the ‘peculiarities’ of Hindi Cinema which separates it from Hollywood or any other foreign film industry. In earlier times whenever there was a requirement of steamy scenes in movies, the protagonists, that is the hero and the heroine used to indulge into a song and dance sequel. The song and dance sequences pop up here and there according to necessary requirements and situations. The 1932 movie Indra Sabha was one of the first Indian movies with over 70 songs.

Film Poster of Indra Sabha (1932).

Truly, Hindi Cinema has entertained audiences worldwide for more than a century now. Informally and popularly known as Bollywood, Hindi Films will always have a special place in hearts of millions of Bollywood fans!

ALITA : BATTLE ANGEL

Movie review:

Introduction:
Alita, a female cyborg is revived by cyber medic expert Dyson Ido and she sets out to learn about her past and true identity. The main cast is Rosa Salazar as Alita, Christoph waltz as Dr. Ido and Keean Johnson as Hugo. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez and released on 8 February 2019 in India. It is based on the Japanese manga artist Yukito Kishiro’s 1990s series Battle Angel Alita and its 1993 original video animation adaptation, Battle Angel. Alita is a cyborg who awakens in a new body with no memory of her past and sets out to uncover her destiny. It belongs to the genre of science fiction. The movie was set 300 years after the fall or the big war.

In my opinion, the movie was good enough to be entertaining but not good enough to be talked about for a long period of time. Even though they claim it’s a sci-fi movie, there are a few scenes which would pass for a romantic movie. Alita has the need/drive to find her own self, her own identity but during the end, she aspires to avenge Hugo, her boyfriend who was brutally murdered by Nova, who resides in Zalem.

Alita is someone who is drawn to violence without any hesitation. She was alive even after the span of 300 years. Her brain was intact which shocked Dr. Ido and he realised that she is a warrior from United Republic of Mars (URM) who was considered the enemy and therefore he tried his best to keep her away from danger. Her mission was to end Nova from Zalem but she and her other team mates failed to do so and now, 300 years later, she swore to complete her mission.

In the iron city, where she resides, there’s a play called motorball which can get pretty rough and If one manages to win the final round or become the championship, they are sent to Zalem which the other people, the common citizens don’t even dare to imagine.

Nova isn’t someone who is used to losing, so he hired vector and a cyborg known as Grewishka to end Alita but she was strong enough as her technology was very advanced (URM Technology), so she emerged victorious.

The character I liked the most was Alita. How, even though she remembered nothing, she still longed to know where she belonged, who she was, her past and unraveling truths about her self. It shows how much important it is to have an identity for oneself and to be able to remember who you are.

I, also liked the character of Dr. Ido, who was hesitant to let her out into the real world at first but later realized that one cannot be kept from their destiny for long, no matter how much they try. He was from Zalem originally but never failed to show his humanity by helping Alita.

Conclusion:
I would recommend this sci-fi movie to an amateur or a beginner who developed new interest in sci-fi movies.
I rate this movie a 7.4/10

State of the Siege: Temple Attack

State of the Siege is a 2021 movie released on Zee5. It is an amazing thriller rescue. State of Siege: Temple Attack is a fictional story, not bearing deliberate resemblance to any events or persons, living or dead. But through the course of its first 30 mins, director Ken Ghosh tries every trick in the book to let you know that he has made a film about the 2002 Akshardham Temple attack in Gandhinagar. State of Siege begins on a promising note, with an opening sequence set in the picturesque hills of the Kupwara District in J&K, at a make-believe Indo-Pak border. Akshaye Khanna plays Major Hanut Singh, the man running a mission to extract a minister’s kidnapped daughter. There are some great visuals in this scene, some atmospheric sound design, and a slow-burn pace that steadily increases as the stakes rise. In more good news, the extras don’t act like they are in a TV commercial. The cinematography and the performances take a plunge when the action moves to the Gujarat temple. Acquaintances are made with characters that will potentially be captured or murdered. From the temple guide to the priest, to the woman visiting the temple with her entire family, not one character seems to belong to our planet. Absolutely everyone is acting extra-happy about their lives. Anyway, none of these gleeful people have been given much thought in the script, by William Borthwick and Simon Fantauzzo. The are all unimaginably decent, just in case you were wondering if they deserve to die.

Hanut Singh is one of only two characters that are not written as uni-dimensional beings. When his mission from the opening sequence ends poorly, it gives him a reason to prove himself in whatever assignments follow. The other is Gautam Rode’s soldier #2, awaiting the birth of his first baby, but called to duty before he can see her face. Akshaye Khanna delivers a satisfying enough performance as the steely senior soldier, ridiculed by a junior only to ultimately earn his respect. However, it would be a stretch to say that he has been given his due. Someone of his calibre could have accomplished more had the writing been more complex.

Story Line

Major Hanut Singh is haunted by his past where he was injured badly in a terrorist attack and lost his colleague when they were close to completing a mission. The state of Gujarat has just calmed due to ongoing riots but a terrorist organization led by Aby Hamza plans to attack a temple in order to free their leader Bilal Naikoo. The terrorists enter the temple and start cross firing and killing whoever comes on their way but further they get orders from Abu Hamza to hold the civilians as captive and demands the government to free their leader Bilal Naikoo or every hour there will be a blood shed. Major Hanut Singh along with his team of NSG commandos decides to lead the mission but his senior’s ask him to back out when he does not follow the orders leading to cross firing between the terrorists and NSG Commandos.

XOXO, Oops girl.

As we are blessed (cannot say) with the reboot to the legendary teen show, Gossip Girl, this girl just dived into the world of Manhattan’s elite teenagers and since I like to judge, I am going to judge, I mean review it. Binge re-watching the show that came out in 2007 I found nostalgic. Though G.G came out in the 2007s, I didn’t watch it till the 2014s, almost 7 years later, and yet this Gossip girl had so many of my friends hooked with scandals, drama, betrayal in their lavish life.

However, since now I have rewatched it, I have a lot to say about this show.

So hold on tight for this crazy judgemental ride, xoxo.

The series which lasted for almost 5 years and 6 seasons, revolved around the Upper East Side of New York teenagers each blessed with fortune so huge that the entire world would be saved, however since it’s all fiction, the world can be saved by some other way. Each rich kid was the same person with different faces, all pretentious, rude and had horrible fashion taste. Whoever, I mean whoever was the fashion director for this show, please show your face. Into all this was an outsider called Dan Humphrey whose parents are rich but not like the others, I mean how expensive can a huge penthouse in Brooklyn cost? I looked it up and it’s around 3 million. Living in a 3 million Brooklyn penthouse? cannot relate.

The rich kids ie. Serena Van Der Woodsen whose name is as wonderful as it sounds is an absolute understatement of how wonderful her life is, Nathaniel Archibald another rich kid whose life is being turned upside down, Blair Waldorf an absolute Queen B whose entire life needs to her dominating or wanting to rule over others (can someone tell Blair that the British Rule is over and it’s so 1900s to want to be a princess) and Charles Bass, who someone goes by the name of ‘Chuck’ an absolute horrendous nickname. Chuck Bass has just one ionic script,’ I am Chuck Bass’ as being a son of a multibillionaire allows you to use such a corny line.

* If you haven’t watched this series and are planning to, there are spoilers ahead so just maybe skip it *

The series starts with Serena spotted at the Upper Eastside train station after her mysterious disappearance to visit her brother who has had mental health issues and was put into rehab. Serena mysterious disappearance is said to be the result of a one night stand with her best friend’s boyfriend, Nate Archibald, however later a secret comes out. The reappearance of Serena causes Blair to be uncertain about her relationship with Nate, as he has feelings for Serena. So thus starts an entire series worth of, ‘whose in love with whom’. As Serena is banished from her friends, she and Dan Humphrey who is known as a lonely boy start hanging out and falling in love. Meanwhile, Chuck is living his best bachelor life, while hopelessly being in love with Blair. Nate and Blair break up and so the toxic relationship between Chuck and Blair started. Throughout the entire series which revolves around the life of the above mentioned, along with their family members who just keep digging themselves in newer and deeper and fancier graves, each which can be covered with money, connections or blackmail. With all the news of their scandal coming out through a blog called, ‘Gossip girl’ whose entire blog revolves on the above mentioned teenagers and who has an famous line too (shocker!) which goes like, xoxo Gossip girl. At the end of the series, the gossip girl is revealed to be someone they know (again shocker!).

After 2 weeks of putting through myself through this show, I can say it was sheer self-induced torture. I can say that I do have some views, some horrible views.

This show just shows us the epitome of self-centeredness, pretentiousness, self-righteousness and trying to prove that, ‘money can buy you anything’ point. The show also lacked diversity and representation. The show which wanted to portray friendship, but fell short, as not all friendships turn into relationships. Friendships about being there for each other, though this show did that. It’s also about being able to be your true self, watching movies, fooling with each other. It’s not above bringing down each other, it’s not about business. All the relationships shown in the shown were nothing worth swooning over, with infatuation being the centre and toxic relationships shown as games and plots played against each other. The Chuck and Blair relationship seemed so forced and the Prince coming into the picture with the whole lock you away in a castle plot just seemed too clichéd. The characters development wasn’t good. In season 5, we see a new Blair, the one who isn’t so stuck up about money or social hierarchy. The only worthy relationship that seemed to be any good was Blair Waldorf with Dan Humphrey, however, she goes back to the so-called toxic love of her life. Serena just seemed very rude in so many scenes, it seemed that only Dan could bring out the good in her. Nate Archibald also finds himself in new different scandals, mostly related to relationships, drugs and family. I feel like the show, showed us that capitalism is okay, and if we want a lavish life, the only way we can get is through nepotism or marrying rich or work so hard that we don’t have proper family relationships.

However, this doesn’t mean that show is not good, it’s a good one-time binge-able show. Through the entire show, you can compare your life to theirs and thank everyone in your family for not being shallow, conniving people.

See you next time with another scandalous review, xoxo!
