Cricket it’s a sport that dates back over 400 years. And as of 2019 is officially played in 104 countries around the world. Cricket’s worldwide fan base is comprised of roughly one billion people in the Indian subcontinent alone makes up 90 percent of those fans. In India, the country adopted a brand new shorter format of the game has drastically cut down on playing time from days to hours. The Indian Premier League or the IPL has only been around for twelve years but it’s fast become one of the most popular and valuable cricket leagues on the planet. The IPL is brand value has nearly doubled in the last five years. In 2018 the league was valued at 6.3 billion dollars. It rakes in and 510 million dollars each year from its broadcasting rights deal making it to only cricket league in the world to crack the top 20 most valuable media rights deals in all of professional sports joining the ranks of the NFL the NBA and MLB.

So how did the IPL become one the most lucrative cricket leagues on the planet. In India. Cricket is huge. It’s been a staple in Indian sports since the seventeen hundreds. It’s currently the most popular sport in the country. The IPL is one of the richest sports properties in the world. And while the IPL isn’t the only cricket league in India it is the most successful league in the country. The 48 day annual tournament was created in 2007 with the help of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Indian businessmen Lalit Modi. Even though cricket already had a few pro cricket leagues they wanted to capitalize on the commercial success of 2020. So they modeled the IPL in a similar nature to pro sports in the US.

The IPL was specifically modeled after the likes of the NFL. Which has a decentralized league. meaning that all teams are owned and operated independently. Also similar to the NFL model the IPL is its own league with its own unique structure. There is a separate T20 World Cup where India competes. But that’s different from the IPL. even though matches are all held in India. Team rosters are chock full of top international talent. In 2018, teams spent 94 million dollars to buy 169 players in an auction. up from its 40 million dollars for 66 players in 2017. But what you’ve actually got in the IPL franchises who represent a city a place an industrial heartland and you’ve got the full support of some major entrepreneurs. So rather than let’s say Delhi again. So, you’ve got your IPL franchises based around the cities. I’m not as actually have a massive impact. in terms of global cricket. Those TV and digital rights eventually went to Fox the American broadcasters struck a five year 2.5 five billion dollar deal for the global media rights of the IPL. The price per match jumped from 1 million dollars to about 8.47 million dollars per game. For comparison the NFL cost per game is around 22.5 million dollars. The English Premier League is around 13.2 million dollars. The NBA is close to 2 million dollars and the MLB is just 630 thousand dollars per game. Just two years after the ink dried on the Fox IPL deal Disney completed a 71 billion dollar deal for Fox entertainment assets one of the assets that Disney now owns is hot star. And unlike other major sports leagues the IPL season is so short that players have a chance to bank even more cash in the off season.

The IPL takes place in the spring starting at the end of March or early April and continuing through May. That means cricketers have the flexibility to play for other clubs around the world. Take the Mumbai Indians player Kieran Pollard. In 2017 he and more than one million dollars for two months. They play for the Mumbai Indians and IPL in that same year. Pollard had multiple revenue streams from playing for cricket leagues in Australia Bangladesh and South Africa. On the 23rd of June 1894 the International Olympic Committee was founded at the Sorbonne in Paris. Prior to the IOC establishment by Pierre de Coubertin the British physician Dr. William penny Brookes had set up the Wenlock Olympian games in the English market town of Much Wenlock although he always maintained that he had the idea of reviving the ancient Olympic Games for amateur athletes himself, Coubertin entered correspondence with Brooks and benefited from his connections with the Greek government Coubertin was the Secretary General of the Union of French sports associations.

Coubertin first proposed establishing a modern Olympic Games at his meeting on the 25th of November 1892 although his enthusiasm was met with little more than general polite applause Coubertin wasn’t deterred and commenced to get the groundwork for what was to become the primary Olympic Congress at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1894. Initially invited participants to a gathering entitled reflections on and propagation of the principles of amateurism Coubertin later changed the name to a congress on the revival of the Olympic Games seventy-nine delegates from nine countries subsequently met at the Sorbonne though Coubertin himself recognized that there was still little enthusiasm for reviving the games. Despite this a vote was held at the last word meeting of the Congress on the 23rd of June that established the International Olympic Committee Coubertin was elected to the role of general secretary with the Greek businessman and writer Demetrius Vikelas because the first president it had been further agreed that the primary modern Olympic Games would happen in Athens in 1896. The second in Paris four years later the IOC has remained liable for the Olympic Games ever since.

Hima Das nominated for “Khel Ratna”award

Hima Das popularly known as “Dhing Express”, 20- year old Indian Sprinter from Assam has been nominated for the prestigious Khel Ratna Award by the State Government of Assam. Assam sports secretary Dulal Chandra Das sent the letter of recommendation to the sports ministry on June 5.

She is one of the youngest nominees for Khel Ratna this year. She became the first Indian Woman Athlete to win Gold medal in global track event at IAAF World U20 Championship in speed of 51.46 seconds. She won a number for gold medals at smaller events in 2019.At Asian Games in 2018, she won a silver medal in the 4×400-metre mixed relay.Hima Das was interested in sports since childhood.

Cricket and football are two of the most passionate and fascinating sports in the world. We all love those beautiful games and the players connected with them. The ardent supporters would try their best to shirk work to attend matches and the crazier ones would not hesitate to sacrifice their sleep to express support to their teams. The emergence of COVID-19 had changed the whole scenario. There were no matches worth mentioning in any place in the world for more than three months. After a long pause things are limping back to some degree of normalcy.

Football is coming back to Spain with virtual crowds, regular matches and lots of testing being done for protection from coronavirus. The Spanish League was suspended for more than three months due to the pandemic. It will resume this weekend as the second top league to do so in Europe. The Bundesliga is the first league ever to start in the post-pandemic times. The other leagues, such as the Premier League and the Italian League, will start from next week. The league officials estimated the loss of $1.1 million if they do not resume the matches for the pandemic. The Spanish League is starting the match from Friday between Sevilla and Real Betis at 1.30 am IST as the El Garn Derby. The weekend will have a kickstart match by the table leader FC Barcelona versus RCD Mallorca. There will be another match played between the second placed Real Madrid and Eibar on Sunday next. The Sunday match will take place at Real Madrid’s training centre as the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is under renovation throughout the season. The clubs are expected to have matches on a regular basis till its completion on 19 July, 2020. Supporters from all over the world are anticipating how the ‘new normal’ will affect the players on field.

La Liga is having high hopes to push the restart button as a celebration and it is also planning to pay respect to the victims of coronavirus. Spain has experienced more than 27,000 deaths and is one of the worst-hit countries in the world. The first match on Friday will show the world that the crisis is under control. Post-game press conference should be done through video conference call.
Five substitutions instead of three in the eleven member-team.
Handshakes are totally prohibited.
Teams travelling by bus will use two buses.
The security personnel have to check on fans to ensure no large gathering in front of the stadium.
There will be no supporters in the stadium.
The players should sit on the alternate seats in the bench.

The VIVO Indian Premier League is one of the most popular and prestigious cricket tournaments in India. This year it was scheduled to start from 29 March to 24 May but it was postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus. Sourav Ganguly, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced that the board is exploring all possible actions to restart the league. The matches will happen in empty stadium without any supporters. The board is discussing safety precautions for the players and staff where some of them have to take international flights to be with the teams. It is being speculated that the tournament might be played in the October-November slot if the International Cricket Council (ICC) decides to postpone the T20 World Cup. The board is in the process of developing a COVID-19 SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) for all State Cricket Associations with a few standard guidelines. It is also in the process of discussing domestic cricket tournaments with the state cricket associations. The economic structure of international cricket is likely to change and lower-ranked nations are already facing fund crunch.

The Indian Super League (ISL) final was held in an empty stadium in Goa on 14 March. I-League season was stopped on 15 March, with the Neroca vs Chennai City 2-2 draw becoming the last match of the season. The season was eventually called off with twenty three matches left and Mohun Bagan was crowned champions. India’s remaining World Cup qualifiers have been postponed. Matches against Qatar, Afghanistan and Bangladesh were scheduled for the March-April window and there’s little clarity on when they will be played. The postponement of the U-17 Women’s Football World Cup, 2020, which was to be hosted in India in November, has also caused some concern. Though FIFA has mentioned that new dates will be identified at a more suitable time.
