MUST-READ TWO BOOKS BY PAULO COELHO – 2

Paulo Coelho wrote many best-selling books most of which are popular all around the world. And translated in various languages. One of his masterpieces is Alchemist. All of his works are related to self-help and motivational genres.

Book: Veronica Decides To Die

Veronica is a young woman who commits suicide due to being full of emptiness in her life. While she waiting for death after taking a lot of sleeping pills she fainted and found herself in an asylum alive. But Doctor said that she has only a few days to live due to a heart condition caused by the overdose. Her presence there affects all of the mental hospital’s patients, especially Zedka, who has clinical depression; Mari, who has panic attacks; and Eduard, who has schizophrenia, and with whom Veronika falls in love. At least she wants to live or not is the key base of this novel.

Why you should read this book:

This one is not a boring plot, book content moves slow still does not let you drop the idea to read it. And this contains good vocabulary which is worth recommending to every reader. If you ever tried or at least thought once to end your life read this one it will make you believe in Miracle.

Book Quotes:

People never learn anything by being told, they have to find out for themselves.

You are someone who is different, but who wants to be the same as everyone else.

You have two choices, to control your mind or to let your mind control you.

Note: This book is also adapted as a film by Emily Young in 2009.

Book: The Spy

Mata Hari, the beautiful woman, the dancer, the courtesan, and the spy. She was the center of attraction wherever she goes… As a dancer she delighted her audiences, as a courtesan, she bewitched the richest and powerful men of the era. But is she really a spy?

Why you should read this one:

This book is based on real events. Mata Hari is a real person who is accused of espionage and executed.

On the back cover, it says, “Fiction.” But, I would rather love to say it’s a historical work.

When a man sleeps with many women, do we care to say any terms? So, I can’t criticize Mata Hari for being a courtesan.

In this work, I can visualize how men treated women as an object during those time. They gave preference for outer appearance. They wanted their wife to be loyal. But, those rules aren’t for them. And those things made my heart shrunk.

Book Quotes:

I decided to be who I always dreamed of. And the price of a dream is always high.

When we don’t know where life is taking us, we are never lost.

At this moment, I look back at my life and realize that memory is a river, one that always runs backward.

Recommendations:

I don’t recommend both of these books to children especially if you are younger than sixteen. One book contains intimate scenes and another one contains sexual harassment scenes. Thus I would like to recommend these to elder readers who are more than sixteen.

WHEN AND HOW TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATION CAME TO EXISTENCE?

The Victorian era witnessed great strides been taken in the fields of transport and communications. There was a remarkable improvement in the social life of England during the 19th century. With the introduction of steamships, railways, penny post, telegram and cables the entire society underwent a dramatic change. Life I was never the same again. The slow pace of the stage coach disappeared and the age of speed arrived.

RAILWAYS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEANS OF TRANSPORT:

The most important means of transport in the Victorian period was the railway. It was the outcome of experience conducted to find the best method of moving coal from mines to places where it was required. As Trevelyan puts it “the railways were England’s gift to the world”. The first efficient steam engine was made by James watt in 1769 this engines which was stationary were used at first to pump water out of mines or to operate the power loom in factories it was only later that these engines were used in vehicles the year 1819 is an important one in the history of steamship because the Atlantic ocean was cross for the first time by a ship fitted with steam engines “The Savannah”. The story of the railways is even more exciting. It brought about a complete revolution in the way of life and in the landscape of the country. Richard Trevithick what’s up pioneer of locomotives in 1804 steam carriage transporter carload of passengers for the first time. George Stephenson produced an engine which was used chiefly to carry coal. The common use of the motor car and motor bicycle was yet to come when Queen Victoria died in 1901.

PENNY POST:

Many innovations were made in the area of communications in the 19th century. An outstanding development in the means of communication was the establishment of the penny post in 1840. It was the result of unselfish and tireless efforts of Sir Rowland Hill who was originally a teacher by profession.Post had been a government Monopoly in England’s in strain of James I. There was a tax on letters but it was very difficult to impose its deadly sins private travellers smuggled letters. The introduction of the penny post sending letters was a costly affair and something which the poor could not afford. Rowland Hill’s proposed hello rate of postage would increase the revenue of the state by increasing the volume of male, all postage rate should be the same without regard to distance and all mail should be prepaid for which he suggested a device which was known as the postage stamp. He he faced a lot of opposition in suggesting the postage stamp, from the indifference statement and uninformed civil service. Carlyle (a great writer of that time) in one of his letters to his mother expressed anxiety that the art of letter writing will become worsen. The letter writing system was very helpful to many and that was the first time for the poor, in the history of mankind to communicate with their loved ones from whom they were separated. It was a success.

The same decade of penny post also witnessed the introduction of electric graph which was based on the invention of Samuel Morse. After the many difficulties Samuel Morse was able to build his first telegraph line in the United States from Baltimore to Washington in 1843. The next year he sent his first message “What hath God wrought”. Later after the spreading of telegraph lines, the inventor Samuel Moses was rewarded by many governments of Europe. Is It Necessary To Leave An Impact In Business?

“If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito.”

Anita Roddick

When we begin a business, we surely do have a target audience in mind be it local business or a huge global company. Let us consider an example of a local business here, like the sale of school wear which would include children as your target audience in the age group 6 to 14. On the basis of this data, you abide by the norms of a particular school which specifies a dress code which you consider during sales.

However, if your business is concerned with random clothes for children, then you have the freedom to analyze the patterns and designs modern children would prefer. You would understand the current market trends with which today’s children flow. In short, you will try to delve into the psychology of young minds through various mediums be it surveying, interviewing some children in person, or market researching that is checking out your competitors and observing the ways they receive traffic!

Why do you do all this? Perhaps the common answer would be to sell your commodities. But before that, an important step is usually missed out- Impact! We do say that by advertising our services people would purchase our goods but the chain includes another element. Advertising – Impact – Purchase!

There are times when even after advertising their services people aren’t satisfied with the results. That is because your services haven’t left that deep an impact on the audience. With impact comes value. Let us consider our own psychology. When do we really appreciate a service and go for it? Is it just because of its attractive advertisement? No. Only when the service seems beneficial and leaves a positive impact on our minds, do we value it and decide to try it out. That is exactly why, every business tries to prove its genuineness in business so as to leave a good impression on the mob out there!

Leaving an impact means getting into the depths of human psychology and the current market needs. Checking reviews of your competitors and coming up with services which they couldn’t, can create a good influence. So, one can say that uniqueness and impact go hand in hand. However, human psychology as an element is added in the chain. Of course, you can create a unique service but what good is it, if it can’t satisfy one’s desires? A point to remember is that, services leave an impact when more desires of people are met. However, later customer satisfaction too matters, that is the way you treat your customers. That would determine the quality of your services which would be the aftermath. Impact however, is significant in compelling people to approach you through your creative banners all over social media! Impact puts your advertisement to action! Its’ a mini but extremely effective call to action!

Some businesses still work but they receive fewer customers who would be interested, which means that partial psychology has been taken into consideration here. One must usually go for a generalized preference on part of people instead of delving into a portion of it, to gain a good surplus! For instance, a shop selling real gemstones may receive partial response while a shop manufacturing rings with gemstones would definitely appeal to the mob because it adds value and utility to the product.

Limitations and restrictions in services that cover a specific area or gender of the society may not receive that good a response. For instance, a Men’s wear shop will fetch limited customers as opposed to a Unisex clothing shop, won’t it? Absence of limitations or restrictions too leaves a positive impact on the audience.

A Shopping Center is a perfect example of diversity in choices because it offers no restrictions! Various shops sell varied items that grab people’s attention which is the reason malls are always crowded!

Thus, Impact and Value get along well together. They are inseparable and besties forever! When we value something, it definitely has impacted us somewhere in our mind which is forcing us to try that particular service or product out! Thus, the responsibility of a business owner is to arouse this attraction towards a particular service or product in the minds of potential customers by following the given chain:

Consider Human Psychology- Introduce The Service- Effective Advertisement- Leave A Positive Impact (which eventually creates Value)- Have A Successful Sale!

Importance of Training and Internship

Internships and training are also like practicing the theoretical lessons in reality. It gives exposure to real-world activities. Nowadays, when employers give so much attention to resume, it shows you a far better opportunity to have some internship involved and your studies. A practical background pays a lot of effect on your resume and job opportunities. When you are looking for gaining experience, internships and training look the best way. If you take part in an internship at your college time then it can give you a job even before completing your college. A summer internship can be a distinguishing factor for winning a job opportunity. There are a lot of NGOs which provide the internship free of cost to meritorious and able students. A few of them are SNSMKS, TZF, YEF, TCSion, etc.

So, In this article, I would be discussing a few special importance of Internships and training. The importance can be pointed as follows:-
The exposure to the real-world and work environment
There are differences among being a Student, Intern, and trainee. As a student, you just learn the things but as an intern or trainee, you practice the things. You convert your learned theories to work. Here you learn how to behave with your seniors, managers and how to react to people. These things help a lot when you get your first job. As it is quite specific towards that companies and industries so you become able to know a lot about that company and its job and work structure. It also gives you a chance to try new ideas as here responsibilities are quite limited and the people are quite helpful.
Teaches you the importance of resume and work experience
When you go for an internship, either paid or unpaid, they normally give you a completion certificate. But when you do excellent in your work then gives you a Letter of Recommendation, as that is just another certificate but this has quite an excellent effect upon your future work. Here you come to know the real value of a resume. So, try to build a resume so that it shows a mirror image of you.
It allows you to know yourself better as a professional person
When you would search your mind for answers of this importance you will find that there you pass your day as an employee. You are having some work pressure, and you will be getting few more new problems. As when I was doing my last internship of fundraising I found that I am having a quite limited connection with people so I can’t collect any funds just with the help of family and friends. So, there I came to know that I should build a better network with people so that whenever I am part of such things, I may tell them and complete the work.
Creating a big network of professional people
When you go for an internship, it connects you with a lot of people other than your academic career. Here you get a chance to come in contact with a lot of successful business professionals, with them you may create your own network that helps you a lot when you try to get a job in companies. There are a lot of companies which hire people mostly with skills along with a reference, as a reference helps to believe upon that new person.

So, an internship is an important time in one’s life upon which one should focus.
Now coming to our next topic which is the role of NGOs to help students in their internship.
There are a lot of job seekers who belong to a poor family, they can not afford to pay for their internship. The different NGOs help such people by allowing them to feel the corporate world and learn to compete with them.

A Memorable Spooky Experience.

Ok, i will narrate my experience you can decide whether it was paranormal or not. Sorry some of you may find it lengthy. I am a big believer of paranormal, and may be this is the reason that i have had a couple of paranormal experiences.

Who Knocks?’ ‘I who was beautiful Beyond all dreams to restore, I from the roots of the dark thorn am hither And knock on the door.’

Lines from Walter De La Mare’s The Ghost haunt my memory as I take a walk back to the past. People usually refer to the past as dead and buried. Is it really so?

It was a cold night in Deogarh, Jharkhand. I was in Class V then. We were supposed to go to a party at a friend’s house about one-and-a-half kilometres away. My mother was working in the local school. Mum and Dad were supposed to reach the house of Barry Uncle, our host while I was to be accompanied by our caretaker, Ramu.

It was a moonlit night. Deogarh is surrounded by lovely hills and trees. The silhouette of trees in the moonlight is one combination I love. Ramu had an upset stomach after eating thirty-seven pakoras the day before. So I was going alone but I did not feel lonely. The moon was travelling with me. I could see it moving across the branches as I walked. The gentle laughter of a lady suddenly pierced the charming silence of the night air.

A girl in bright red appeared suddenly, ‘Why do you keep looking up to your left while you walk?

I was looking at the moon,’ I answered, rather embarrassed at having my romance with the moon noticed.

The girl asked, You are going to the party, right?”

“How do you know?

“It is a small place. People know each other. I will give you company.”

“So kind of you.

So we talked, laughed and joked for the next twenty minutes. 1 noticed her carefully. Red blouse, red and white skirt, light make up, bright red shoes. A small red bag. The lipstick was a bit too bright. She had amazing grace in the way she walked. Her lively but gentle laughter had the freshness of a mountain spring. We were discussing hobbies. She said she liked collecting old photographs. Why old?’ I asked.

She looked at me queerly and answered, ‘Old photographs have lots of hidden and forgotten stories.

“All right, I said.

Barry Uncle’s house was decorated beautifully. Music and lights welcomed us. Suddenly, the girl stopped smiling. She turned around. ‘What is wrong?’ I asked her.

I prefer the moonlight. I will not go in,’ she said and started walking away.

At least take this jacket,’ I offered her. She was my height and I knew about chivalry. She gave me a mysterious smile, wore the jacket, and walked into the darkness.

In the party, I grooved to the music for some time. I needed to have a wash. While moving towards the washroom, I suddenly came across a photograph of Barry Uncle with the stranger I had just met. “That’s my niece, Mary. She died two years ago in a tragic accident,’ Barry Uncle said, with a note of sadness in his voice. She is buried in the graveyard behind St Michael’s Church,’ he added.

This is indeed an experience that I would not dare to forget……………….

About the book

The book is written by Jiddu Krishnamurti at the basics of daily routine. The book is based on the observations and experiences of the author. The book is about finding the truth of life through living. This book presents the 365 days of the year. The writer was meditating and trying to find the truth of life. His experiences are interconnected with others. He started writing from January to December.

The story of man of mankind is in you, the vast experiences, the deep-rooted fears, anxieties, sorrow, pleasure and all the beliefs that man has accommodated throughout the millennia.

The book is about the listening process, learning, authority and self-knowledge. The author said, ask yourself why do we follow a leader or authority and later on we criticize them and insist on carving ourselves. Self-awareness is a process of knowing one self. It is not about isolation or withdrawal from the relationships mentioned by the author. He said self-knowledge can help to bring change in society.

The author described the sense of becoming, beliefs, action and good and evil. The author said everyone wants to become something. Becoming something is a will. A will is led by self-projections and a conflict is about struggling to reach our wills. All wills and conflicts are becoming integrated. The author mentioned the love and self, role and hinders of beliefs. He focused on the observations, action and ideas. He said goodness has no motive whereas evil things can’t be justified at any cost.

Dependence, attachment, relationship and fear are in sync. We all depend on something, be it beliefs, religion or a person. The dependence leads to attachment. The attachment develops the relationship when the relationship starts having conflicts and a fear of detachment. The root of fear, anger and loneliness is you and I. we have to learn the tricks to deal with our fear.

The author discussed intimacy, love, lust, marriage and profession. Here also he asked the individual to leave the ego and accept the reality of life. He also discussed the intelligences, thoughts, knowledge, brain, transformation. He said aloneness is not loneliness. Mediation is the way by which we can achieve that peace and truth of life.

To choose this book for the review is my first option because the book is related to the life experiences of the author. The book consists of all aspects of life. The author discussed every topic briefly with causes and results. The book has a religious aspect of life. It is a daily life experience. How meditation helps a person to attain inner peace, the importance of self-knowledge, self- reliance and the truth of life- all the things are core essence of this book.

But I feel the book is in accidental order. The author is just assuming the things. The topic discussed by the author in this book is very common. I think he could work on some other topics too.

Conclusion:

We are just busy in our lives. We all are lost in the darkness of sorrow, greed, anger and love. We stopped to think about the truth of life. We are just focusing on the material world. We all are ignoring our truth of life. We just have to spend our life handling some emotions like sorrow, anger and ego. The cause of the problem is only the sense of supremacy. We are just working for I and degrading you. We are not happy with what we have. We are not satisfied with what we achieved. We all are having an unnecessary race. The book gives us idea how we can deal with ourselves. Knowing yourselves, listening, hearing and what is the true knowledge we are not even don’t care about all of these things. The book focuses on this value. The attainment of true knowledge is only possible through mediation. The mediation helps to awaken your inner desire of knowing truth, learning about the real meaning of peace and maintaining the meaning of self-knowledge. The book supports love not lust. The difference between love and desire, willing and integration, loneliness and loneliness are clearly mentioned in the book. Aloneness is the essence of achieving the truth whereas loneliness is about withdrawal of your feelings. Relationship is the mirror- the lines really give a different idea about the relationship. Here the meaning of relationship is considered as knowing yourself from another point of view. I learnt the value of self-knowledge and I felt that self- knowledge is the only key to unlocking life. Controlling and managing your emotions is really important because it reflects your knowledge which could be only possible by mediation.
