SUBTLE SIGNS OF DEPRESSION

There are a lot of signs that might tell you something about your mental health. Those signs might be completely new to you or something you didn’t notice.

Here are the signs that shows you are depressed.

LOW MOTIVATION

Low motivation is also called Anhedonia. Anhedonia lies at the core of depression There might be times when you don’t feel like doing things. You might feel drained even when you haven’t done anything. It doesn’t mean that you don’t like doing it, its just that you are too tired to do it and socially withdraws you by surrounding you with negative feelings.

HOPELESSNESS AND HELPLESSNESS

When you are depressed you are mostly hopeless and feel like you are stuck in this world with no light at all. Helplessness kick in right after hopelessness to indicate that we are incapable of doing things. This combination can make you feel like trapped in a dark room, and the door is locked too. During this zone you can try to challenge yourself into things that are bothering you and break out bit by bit.

FATIGUE

Fatigue is another sign that leads to depression. Most of the people say that it is unstable sleep schedule that causes fatigue but it is just that you are too tired and don’t have energy to do things. Taking antidepressants, low/high diet, sleeplessness, stress etc can increase the chances of gaining fatigues. Yoga or exercise is a good solution to put yourself to bed as it can help you lower the sign of fatigue.

INDECISIVENESS

Depression happens to have an impact on your cognition. It will make activities such as decision making, thinking, problem solving, memorizing, and functioning very difficult. The decision making is even more difficult during a depressive episode as you always expect a negative income. Try to consult a therapist as they can help you find a way out.

ANXIETY

Anxiety is a disorder on its own but it has connections with depression as the symptoms for them both are similar. Anxiety can make you feel things like rapid breathing, panicking, feeling unsafe, and trouble focusing on things. Anxiety can be lessened by doing stuff that you are comfortable doing. It could be anything like making your bed, painting, writing journal, taking a walk etc.

IF YOU ARE RELATING TO ANY OF THE SYMPTOMS THEN TRY SEEKING HELP. DON NOT NEGLECT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH.

TOXIC MASCULINITY

Toxic masculinity is a cultural concept of manliness that glorifies stoicism, strength, virility, and dominance, and that is socially maladaptive or harmful to mental health. Men and women both suffer due to toxic masculinity as the concept itself can be traumatizing. This term is usually used in the media and academic, talking about the harmful and traumatizing expectations that are generally associated with cultural and gender norms.

Toxic masculinity exists when men think that they have to live by self-reliance and suppress all of their emotional waves from the world and must be active, aggressive, tough, daring, and dominant. The concept has been criticized by few conservatives as “an excessive condemnation of traditional masculinity”, but a lot of feminists are in support of this concept as they say that it is violating the role of choice. This concept of toxic masculinity does not condemn men or male attributes, but rather emphasizes the harmful effects of conformity to certain traditional masculine ideal behaviors such as dominance, self-reliance, and competition.

According to social learning theory, teaching boys to suppress vulnerable emotions, as in the saying “big boys don’t cry”, is a significant part of gender socialization in Western society. Especially with the men in prison, they are supposed to be tough, angry and aggressive all the time but it they show their soft side they are named ‘feminine‘, to which men usually resemble it to ‘weakness’. Those men happened to get bullied to harsh extends that they end up taking their own lives. This has been very common in the western prison life.

The gender norms such as emphasizing toughness, dominance, self-reliance, and the restriction of emotion are usually adopted by male from their infancy by parents, other male relatives, and members of the community. According to a psychologist Ronald F Levant, traditionally prescribed masculine behaviors can produce harmful effects including violence (including sexual assault and domestic violence), promiscuity, risky and/or socially irresponsible behaviors including substance-use disorders, and dysfunction in relationships. The effect tends to be stronger in men who also emphasize “toxic” masculine norms, such as self-reliance, seeking power over women, and sexual promiscuity.

6 HABITS THAT HURT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

In the times of increasing mental health issues among people, it is very necessary to learn every aspect in detail. You never know who is hurting and who is not. Being kind to one and all is the best way to avoid future guilt. Help the ones you think are struggling in silence.

Here are six habits that can hurt your mental health.

1. PERFECTIONISM

Do you often describe yourself as a perfectionist? Being a perfectionist would make you give your 100% in everything. Well on the positive side it may serve you as a boon as it will uplift your image and make you an absolute person. However if your perfectionism is making you set standards that are impossible to reach or make you constantly feel like anything worse than perfect is a complete failure, then it may hurt your mental health. It will develop more anxiety and your own self esteem and self confidence will take a hit because of the unrealistic standards you set for yourself.

2. LACK OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Exercise is not only beneficial for your physical self but will also help you mentally.Research says that the chemical and hormonal reactions in you body will make you feel good mentally and light headed. When you work out, the body releases endorphins which are responsible for reducing the chemicals that cause depression, anxiety, and stress. Make sure to exercise for at least 30 minutes.

3. OVERUSE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

The overuse of social media can harm your mental health as it can promote anxiety and lead to issues with self esteem in youths and adults. You happen to compare your life to others. This habit will bring doubts and insecurity that will worsen your entire mood.

4. TAKING LIFE TOO SERIOUSLY

If you ever happen to make a mistake, and you end up reflecting on your mistake and feeling guilty rather than taking it easy or laughing it out, then it effects your mental health on a large scale. Study says that laughing a lot can help in the betterment of both physical and mental health as the body releases endorphins and suppress your stress hormones. So take it all easy!!

5. NOT GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP

Sometimes you may get caught up in your work that can make you sacrifice your good sleep, but that has a negative effect on your mind. Lack of sleep makes it super hard for your brain cells to communicate properly. Most of the people suffering from depression also suffer from Insomnia. Lack of sleep prevents your body as well as your mind from resting and recovering from the chores and the stress of the previous day. Due to this the state of your body and mind will worsen in the future.

6. REGRETTING VERY OFTEN

If you spend a lot of your time thinking of the mistakes or mishaps from the past and regret doing them, then it negatively affects your mental well being. Its normal to feel regret once in a blue moon but making it a habit will make you more prone to depression.

No matter what you are going through right now, know that you are not alone!

Reach out to people when in need. Take care of yourself!

When she leaned into the truck to put the briefcase she feels a sudden rush of pain in the back of her head as if someone had hit her with a blunt object so strong. Within a matter of seconds she passes out. Hours later she wakes up with an acute concussion, at the back seat of the car of the man she helped ago. If you are interested in crime and mystery series then you must know who this man is! Ted Bundy, the well known serial killer and a twisted psychopath.

Psychopathy is traditionally a personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior impaired empathy and remorse and bold dis-inhibited egotistical traits. Here is a catch, Ted was a psychopath but not every psychopath is Ted Bundy. In our society there have bee people who are psychopaths who are excellent leaders, CEO s, lawyers etc, who never harmed anyone. The real deal is, they wouldn’t mind harming someone is they wanted to. Nobody but a psychopath himself can determine that he is a psychopath.

They are extremely smart people. Easily hide themselves and their motives and blend themselves like jelly. Usually people like these are aware of their lack of emotions at a really early age and use a phenomenon called Masking, where they constantly pick personalities that will help them to blend with the crowd. When Ted’s wife got to know about his personality she was blown away and quoted “that man used to make me feel like a new bride every day.”

MASKING

CHARACTERISTICS OF PSYCHOPATHS

  1. Zero empathy – For a psychopath nothings maters more than themselves. no emotions and fails to understand emotions.
  2. Narcissistic overload – This comes hand in hand with psychopathy. With every sense of emotion the sense of humility is non existence to them.
  3. Intelligence – They are very goal oriented people. They put a 100% in their plans that are indeed, always successful.
  4. OCD – Their goals wouldn’t be very huge but they all suffered with OCD as they obsess over something. For Ted it was rendering women helplessly and raping them.
  5. Charm – If charm and a good behavior is what will take them to their goal then they will obtain the quality. They lie effortlessly and so well that they are never caught. They can fake laughing and crying just to blend with the crowd.

THE FAMOUS SERIAL KILLER

Ted Bundy was born on November 24, 1946. He had a strange childhood where he believed that he was adopted by his grandparents and his mother was his sister. His mother didn’t tell him the truth as she was ashamed of the fact that Ted was born out of wedlock. He was handsome and easy to talk to. As unsettling that is, he even published pamphlets telling women ways to prevent rape. By this time he had raped many women.

Ted used charms and approachable behavior to catch his victims. He often wore a sling or crutches to appear helpless and gained empathy from his victims whom he often attacked. Many suffocated in sleep and many rendered unconscious by the hit on their head with crowbars and man were simply stabbed. He chose young women who were students and attacked them with an object while they were sleeping or render them helpless before sexually assault them.

after being caught in 1977 he chose to fight his own case and gained access to library. There he jumped out of the window and ran away. He outsmarted the authority again and escaped for a real long time. With stolen vehicles and stolen food he escaped to Florida, where one night he snuck in one of Florida’s university hostels and had assaulted 4 women within 15 minutes, out of which 2 died. He even killed a 12 year old girl shortly after.

He was caught by a cop for driving a vehicle that was reported stolen. That cop who arrested Bundy had no idea whom he had captured. On the way Bundy said ” I wish you could have killed me”. A TRIP TO THE BEST INVENTIONS OF MANKIND

Mankind has served this world with things no one could have ever imagined. There is a reason why some people happened to make it to our history books, and we are very thankful they did. Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Edison didn’t invent a light bulb? We couldn’t make a rough guess of when or who would have made the light bulb if it was not Edison . Science is crazy and huge when it comes to research but it is super interesting at the same time.

Here are some beings who made the best inventions!

ELECTRICITY

Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of mater that has a property of electric charge. The presence of an electric charge, which can be either positive or negative, produces an electric field. Lightning is one of the most dramatic effects of electricity, and as we all know, it can kill us.

Franklin started exploring the phenomenon of electricity in 1746 when he saw some of lectures using static electricity for illustrations. Franklin was the first to label them as positive and negative respectively, and he was the first to discover the principle of conservation of charge. In 1748, he constructed a multiple plate capacitor, that he called an “electrical battery”. Franklin briefly investigated electrotheraphy . This work led to the field becoming widely known.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

ELECTRIC BULB

This invention changed the way we design buildings, increased the length of the average workday and jump-started new businesses. It also led to new energy breakthroughs — from power plants and electric transmission lines to home appliances and electric motors.

In 1835, the first constant electric light was demonstrated, and for the next 40 years, scientists around the world worked on the incandescent lamp, tinkering with the filament and the bulb’s atmosphere. Edison and his researchers focused on strengthening the filament. In 1879, Edison’s team kept on experimenting with the filament until settling on one made from bamboo that gave Edison’s bulb a life of 1200 hours, this filament became the standard for the Edison bulb for the next 10 years.

THOMAS EDISON

TELEPHONE

During 1876–1877 invention of telephone took place.

Alexander Graham Bell presented the telephone before a large audience for the first time at the World Exhibition in Philadelphia in June 1876. Bell’s patent was approved and officially registered on March 7. Three days later the famous call was made to Bell’s assistant Mr Watson, that said “come here. I want to see you.”, confirmed that the invention worked. The Bell Telephone Company began operating on July 11, 1877. In the same month, the first usable Bell telephone was sent to Europe.

ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL

COMPUTER

Computer once meant a person who did computations, but now the term almost universally refers to automated electronic machinery.

Charles Babbage, an English mathematician and inventor invented the very first digital computer. He first made Difference engine, then came computer and lastly, Analytic engine. During the 1830s Babbage developed plans for the  the forerunner of the modern computer. In that device he saw the capability of performing any arithmetical operation on the basis of instructions from punched cards, a memory unit in which to store numbers, sequential control, and most of the other basic elements of the present-day computer.

RADIO

The first edition of radio was patented in 1896 by Guglielmo Marconi. Marconi was a pioneer of wireless telegraphy. He began experimenting with his inventions at the age of 20 after becoming aware of the work of Hertz in electromagnetic waves, also known as radio waves.

In July 1986 Marconi made the first demonstration of his invention, the radio transmitter and receiver.  In December 1901, Marconi successfully transmitted the first wireless telegraphy signals across the Atlantic Ocean.

  1. Polysomnography – This is a lab sleep study that evaluates oxygen levels, body movements, and brain waves to determine how they disrupt sleep.
  2. Electroencephalogram – This is a test that assesses electrical activity in the brain and detects any potential problems associated with this activity.
  3. Multiple Sleep Latency Test – This daytime napping study is used in conjunction with a PSG at night to help diagnose narcolepsy.

TREATMENT

There are various methods to treat sleep disorders but most used once are based on medical treatment and lifestyle changes.

ARE WE AWARE OF ALL THE TRAFFIC SIGNS?

We are taught about the basic traffic signs since childhood, but are you confident that you know all of them right.

THE HOW AND HISTORY

Traffic signs or road signs are signs erected at the side of or above the roads to give instructions or provide information to road users. They are very important as they are a major source of help to avoid accidents. There are many traffic signs or road signs that we are unaware of and if we happen to see them on road we are hung in confusion. The earliest signs were simple wooden or stone milestones. Later, signs with directional arms were introduced. Later all countries adopted pictorial signs to make people understand better.

THE NEED OF TRAFFIC SIGNS

There are a couple reasons why we need to follow and know traffic signs. Some of the points are listed below,

  • Ensures smooth traffic as it informs the driver about the correct lanes to drive in
  • Knowing traffic rules in India reduces the number of accidents by ensuring discipline of the roads
  • Provide instructions and information on the road condition ahead
  • All information about important curves and junctions, the presence of school and hospitals and speed limits is provided
  • The traffic rules and signs inform the driver about entry and exit points and about parking areas
  • Provides drivers to follow the traffic rules in India and about potential dangers on the road

SOME IMPORTANT TYPES OF SIGNS

Mandatory Traffic Signs

Mandatory traffic signs are made to ensure the traffic moves freely. With the knowledge of these signs, the drivers come to know about the prohibitions and the rules and regulations which they need to keep in mind while driving on the road. Some of the mandatory traffic signs are “Stop”, “No Entry”, “One Way”, “Right Turn Prohibited”, “Speed Limit” etc.

Cautionary Traffic Signs

These are the road signs which are made to inform the driver about the potential dangers and the hazards on the road. This ensures the driver is more careful. Some of the examples of these signs are, “Pedestrian Crossing”, “Narrow road ahead”, “Hair Pin Bend”, “Round About” etc.

Informatory Signs

These are the traffic signs with their meanings which inform the driver about distance, directions, alternative routes, destinations and important places like hospitals, schools etc. These signs not only help us to locate places but also reminds us to be careful of the crowd that might be present at the location.

DREAM ANALYSIS

WHAT ARE DREAMS?

Dreams are stories and images that our minds create while we sleep. They can be entertaining, fun, romantic, disturbing, frightening, and sometimes bizarre. It is a fact that each dream lasts up to 5-20 minutes only. That is probably the reason why we often feel that dreams were short.

WHY DO WE DREAM?

There are many theories that state why we get dream, some of them are,

1)Building memory: Researchers suggest that dreams reflect a biological process of long-term memory consolidation, serving to strengthen the neural traces of recent events, to integrate these new traces with older memories and previously stored knowledge, and to maintain the stability of existing memory representations in the face of subsequent experience.

2)Processing emotion: The society seems to condition us to always appear calm and in full control of how we feel, no matter the circumstances which leads us in suppressing all our dark emotions. Researchers have discovered that there is a greater tendency for negative emotions experienced during waking hours to manifest within dreams. Especially sadness, fear, anger, and anxiety. Positive emotions did not significantly manifest in dreams.

3)Mental housekeeping: During sleep, the brain needs to process all the information from that day. This theory states that dreams are a result of the sorting, scanning and searching through memories. Very few people can actually remember their dreams during the day as they are more focused on working for the following day.

4)Instant replay: Human brains use dreams to replay recent events and help form memories — and experts have gotten the first glimpse of this process in action, a study has reported. When we sleep, our brains replay the firing patterns our neurons underwent.

5)Incidental brain activity: This view holds that dreaming is just a by-product of sleep that has no essential purpose or meaning. No worries and no place for superstitions.

TYPES OF DREAMS

  1. VIVID DREAMS: Vivid dreams involve especially realistic or clear dream content.
  2. RECURRING DREAM: Recurring dreams involve the same imagery repeating in multiple dreams over time.
  3. BAD DREAMS: Bad dreams are composed of bothersome or distressing content.

WHY DO WE OFTEN FORGET OUR DREAMS?

  • Part of this is biological, as neurotransmitters forming memory are less active during sleep,
and dream forgetfulness also appears to be related to the level of electrical activity in the
    brain during dreams.
  • Additionally, it could have something to do with the content of your dreams. Early
psychoanalytic theory suggested that difficult or traumatic information in dreams is
suppressed, and the dreamer is less likely to retrieve or analyse it.
remembering dreams is a superpower!

FORGETTING DREAMS

Most people over the age of 10 years dream between 4 and 6 times each night, but some people rarely remember dreaming. It is often said that 5 minutes after a dream, people have forgotten 50 percent of its content, increasing to 90 percent another 5 minutes later.

HOW CAN YOU REMEMBER DREAMS?

Focusing on the dream as much as possible upon waking.

Writing down as much about the dream as possible upon waking.

Waking up naturally and not with an alarm.

Remind yourself that dream recall is a priority.

FACTS ABOUT DREAMING

1)Dreaming can help you learn and develop long-term memories.

2)Lucid dreaming is when the dreamer’s aware that they are dreaming. They may have
some control over their dream.

3)We may not remember dreaming, but everyone is thought to dream between 3 and 6
times per night.

4)Around 95 percent of dreams are forgotten by the time a person gets out of bed.

5)Blind people dream more with other sensory components compared with sighted
people.

6)You can only dream about faces you’ve have already seen.

Happy Dreaming!!!
