I’ve seen many people say ‘fitness is my passion’ but have never tried doing yoga. Why? Did you know that yoga is one of the most relaxing and fun way to be fit? Every Asana, every movement builds up the strength in your muscles and relaxes your mind and body. Yoga helps build flexibility and strength. It is said that yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuji” which means union. In simple terms, it’s the union of your body, mind and soul. The main purpose of doing yoga is to make sure you relax and enjoy this form of exercise. Always give yourself and your body enough time to adapt to this method and never rush into anything.

Disney’s take on gender representation

Gender Representation in Disney Movies

Abstract :
In the Disney world, we can see that gender role-play a very prominent role. It is something people look forward to and observe while watching a movie and depicting certain characters in certain ways could change the way men and women are expected to be like and it sets a standard of how their role should look like. Very frequently, many female characters are portrayed as weak, and always in need of a man to save them. For instance, Cinderella, snow white, etc. There are only a handful number of movies where the female takes it upon herself to not give in to societal norms and standards.

Introduction:
The main focus of this article is to throw light on the representation of female characters in gynocentric Disney movies. Disney was originally founded on October 16, 1923. It was finally renamed The Walt Disney Company in 1986.
Disney has given a lot of people all over the world comfort through their unparallel storytelling, extraordinary productions, and unbeatable attention to detail. Even with all the amazing storylines, it’s mostly gynocentric and male-oriented. Their portrayal of women is very outdated and affects the perception of women in the real world. This research is important as it helps us realize why the way men and women are portrayed in a particular manner can be harmful and deceiving, as in the movies men are shown to be powerful, strong, level headed and manly while the female characters are shown to be weak, always in need of help, in need of a male character to help them be liberal and achieve happiness. This can send the wrong message to people who are trying to accept themselves as they are and not care about how others wish them to be. In modern times like this, media or visual entities hold a lot of power and therefore it is important for the messages to be conveyed in the right manner and make sure that it doesn’t change the progress of the real world. If men and women are given equally important roles and represented with equality, it would spread a positive message and the receiver would also have a positive outlook of the world.

Data Analysis, Result, and Discussion:
The first movie is Tarzan release in 2003 was an orphaned his parents were killed by the cheetahs when he was a baby. He was adopted by a gorilla and Kala and spent his early years trying to imitate them. The entire movie displayed him as a masculine, strong, fierce hunter, worrier, and independent. When the ape Kerchak attacks and tried to kill him, he wins the fight the takes Kerchak’s place as the king of the ape. On the other hand, Jane has been portrayed as weak, emotional, and fragile. Jane and her father research Gorilla, so she came to the jungle with Clayton to get more information about them. At first, Jane has shown bravery and courage trying to stop Clayton from killing the gorillas. Clayton was using the trip so that he can kill the gorillas and sell them. But once she meets Tarzan and falls in love with him, she completely relies on him and the others to save her from every difficult situation she faced. While the baboons chased her Tarzan save her. When the pirate guy tries to hit her again Tarzan saves her. When they are imprisoned on the boat instead of trying to find how to escape, she just stays there and waits for Tarzan. In the movie, Jane always follows Tarzan wherever he goes. The way how Jane was portrayed in the movie is common to many other female characters, it says something not about them as an individual but how the society view women and their place and expectations.

The second movie is Cinderella release in 2007 is a classic fairy story, a rags-to-riches tale about a kind-hearted girl who suffers various hardships only to marry the prince of the kingdom. In Cinderella, men are portrayed as the upper gender, because of the sociological position of women at that time when they were considered inferior and of an inferior class and wealth. Cinderella’s father played no important role in Cinderella’s life. Most of the time, she was controlled by her evil mother-in-law. Cinderella was seen as happy and she looks like she is enjoyed doing household chores she still dreams of her happiness ever after. Cinderella is a typical image of a distressed lady because the only one who can save her from her miserable life was the prince. Cinderella will be stuck in her miserable life forever if the prince won’t save her. This shows the status of women at the time who idealized marriage and the role of being at home to taking care of babies and care for the husband. In addition, by showing the differences the step-sisters had with Cinderella, children can think that step-sisters share a nasty relationship, which isn’t the case on many occasions. It is important to not label or relate certain achievements or actions to a person’s gender because that’s not always the case.

The third movie with a strong female character is Frozen which was released in 2013. This movie talks about women’s power and how there is strength in unity and beauty in accepting oneself as they are. The movie starts with two sisters, Elsa and Anna where Elsa was born with magical powers to create ice but she unintentionally hurts Anna and is no longer confident about her powers, and their parents decide that it’s best to hide her powers. Due to this, the two sisters grow apart and there’s a distance between them but one day during Elsa’s coronation, Anna meets Prince Hans of Isle. They fall in love but Elsa doesn’t approve of them and accidentally shows her powers to the world and that’s where Anna realizes how difficult it must’ve been for Elsa. Elsa escapes and Anna follows her where she meets Christoph, a very ordinary man who works in the business of collecting ice. They both leave to find Elsa and convince her to go back but to no avail. Elsa realizes that the mountains are where she belongs as she cannot hurt anyone and can freely do magic. Elsa strikes Anna’s heart which can only be healed by “an act of true love”, so she travels back to Arendelle to Hans but quickly realizes that it was all an act and he was only after her wealth. In the meantime, Hans captures Elsa to put an end to her but she successfully escapes. Hans finds her and is about to strike her when Anna throws herself to save her sister’s life and Elsa is in disbelief and starts weeping and that’s when Anna comes back to life as the “act of true love” mentioned above was sisterly love. This movie has a strong message that women need to stick together and how there is power in being one.

The fourth movie chosen is Moana released in 2016. This movie is about a girl who is supposed to be leading an island but shows very little interest in that particular topic but she finds water to be very fascinating and is drawn to it from the very beginning but isn’t allowed to be anywhere near water as it’s considered to be dangerous or unknown. Moana tries her best to make sure she fulfills her duty as someone who should lead but is unable to do so and therefore begins her journey with water. In the movie, we can see how her grandmother always encouraged Moana to find her true calling and follow her dreams and find happiness in whatever she does. The movie starts with her grandmother reading an ancient tale to the children of the island which nobody considers to be true but her grandmother is sure that it’s not all a lie. Maui is a demigod who runs away with the stone or nature’s heart which starts to corrupt the world and destroy it. Moana is the only one why can put things back to place as she is the chosen one and is supposed to deliver the stone with Maui beyond the reef. She goes on an adventure to save the world and finds Maui and even though she faces a lot of hardship in her path, she still makes sure to deliver the stone as the fate of her island and the world depended on her. During the journal, she realizes that her ancestors were voyagers and the island residents started voyaging again once the issue was solved as they deeply believed in Moana. This entire movie has proved that women need to take matters into their own hands and face obstacles head-on and have faith in themselves. They should be able to freely follow their gut feeling and be able to do whatever they want to without needing anyone’s permission or approval.

Conclusion:
This article aimed to view the gender representation of female characters in gynocentric Disney movies. It analyzes four different Disney movies. Earlier the female characters are given a minor role and did not hold any importance in the movies. Even in this age and time, Disney shows how women need men to achieve happiness and freedom. Movies like Mulan and Moana need to be advocated more so women can find their happiness in their way and they don’t need a man to fulfill their interests. However, as gender roles have changed, the female characters in Disney animations have also changed with gaining more importance in their roles.

Book review of The Changeling Sea

Introduction:
The changeling sea is a fantasy novel for juvenile readers by Patricia McKillip. It is a slender book, but one written with lush and evocative prose that is as beautiful as it is simple. It is a fable about a changeling whose heart is tied to the sea. It is a book about yearning for something that no longer exists.

When Peri completes her hexes and casts them into the water, she includes an offering from the prince. To her surprise, her magic succeeds beyond expectations, disrupting the sea queen’s magic. A chained sea dragon appears, the wandering magician Lyo arrives in the village in response, and Kir’s sea-dreams grow even more tortured.

Peri’s efforts to help Kir eventually lead to her undertaking a strange journey into the depths, uncovering a tragic secret from the king’s past and the true identity of the sea dragon, and a dawning realization of her own power.

The sea drowned Peri’s father and even took away her mother through depression. Peri respected and saw an old wise woman as a caring figure gets taken away by the sea or when she suddenly disappears, she decides to hurt the sea or avenge the deaths of her loved ones. She decides to draw three hexes to curse the sea and somehow, her magic works beyond her expectations.
Peri was a hardworking young girl who worked at the inn, mopped floors, cleaned tables. After the death of her father, she could not care less about her appearance, she always looked untidy, her hair undone/unwashed. Her clothes were too tight or too loose, torn and not in a good shape. The only thing she really cared about was her revenge on the sea.

One night, she witnesses a man on a dark horse and the next afternoon realizes that it is none other than prince Kir. He was acquainted with the old woman. He too, notices Peri that night. The next day when he arrives at the sea, he asks her about the old woman and she is fascinated that he knows the old woman. He wants to visit the old woman as he was hoping for the wise woman’s aid in curing his own haunting obsession with the sea.

Kir has deep troubles of his own, also connected to the watery depths, and hopes that Peri can help him make his peace with the ocean that haunts his every waking moment. When Peri finishes her hexes and throws them deep into the great water, she also includes an offering from Kir hoping it would be of help to him.

A great sea dragon starts to appear amongst the fishermen’s boats on the sea, with an impossibly large gold chain around its neck. Then, a magician comes to town, promising that he will be able to remove the chain and give the gold to the villagers – for a price. And most importantly, Kir’s dreams of the sea grow more fevered and frantic, as his own unknown, hidden past catches up to him. And it is all up to Peri to set everything back to rights.

Conclusion:
I would recommend this book to those who have found their new interest in the genre fantasy and all in all it is a book which captures the attention of its readers from the beginning. I rate this book a 8.1/10.

Adult lifestyles

Introduction:
Adult lifestyle symbolises the way an adult prefers to the lead the rest of their life. Adults have the choice to do whatever they want. It’s up to them to make the right choice and to choose the right person they want to spend their time with. Society has come a long way in terms of adult relationships and ways of expressing them. In earlier times, the only relationship between people were marriages but these days, things have changed or been revised. Every adult would pick a choice that is healthy and comfortable for them such as being single, hooking up, being friends with benefits, co habilitation or marriage.

• Single hood:
Single hood was popularized in the early 20’s as many people had many reasons to not want to be with someone else or wanting to be a part of somebody else’s life. They could have made the choice due to numerous reasons. Some could be the fact that they haven’t found anybody they liked or anybody compatible with them or somebody who understands them better than others. This is very common nowadays in young adults as this give some more space and time to learn about themselves and focus on their career and learn to grow.

• Hooking up:
Hooking up also popularised in the late 20s. This was not a thing back in the day as many people believed in pure relations and marriages being the ultimate goal. People probably hook up because they do not want to commit to a relationship or they are just looking for a way to destress.

• Friends with benefits:
Friends with benefits is when both the parties exchange mutual pleasure. This is where none of them have committed to relationship but still spend time with each other having sexual relations. But that is where it stops. At times, it could also grow into something else or it could end, as one person might catch feelings for the other and it might make things uncomfortable and awkward.

• Co habilitation:
Cohabitation is 2 people lived together under the same roof. This is very common in American societies but not outside America as the parents don’t approve of this as it is not conventional and appropriate. The penis my be worried about what other people might have to say. Sometimes it is not ideal for couples as they might grow to dislike each other and some of their habits while living together which might cause a breakup.

• Marriage:
Marriages have always been the trend since ancient times. According to parents and the society this is the most appropriate relation for a man and a woman to be in. Some people might even like marriages, getting married and having a family of their on, etc. But some people might have different ideas about this. Adults have their own choices and they might not want to get married. The types of marriages are arranged marriages, love marriages and marriages where the couple elopes.

Conclusion:
Every person has their own thoughts and abilities to make decisions for themselves and therefore nobody should be judged for what ever they choose. It should be their choice and their choice only as they are the ones living the life and not anybody else so it’s important to respect the others opinion.

Radio Script

Introduction:
Radio is a way of communicating using radio waves. Radio can be used for numerous purposes. In the early 1990’s, they were used to learn about political happenings and things going around the world. These days they’re used for listening to music and also many radio shows impart knowledge to their listeners. In this article, I’ll be giving an example of how to write a radio script. This is an interview with two great personalities who have done tremendous work in the social field.

Script:
J – Good morning Bangalore! This is Joy and I welcome one and all to radio campfire. So today’s show is going to be very informative and I request you all to pay utmost attention to what is being said and if need be you can as well take down a few pointers/notes. So today we have with us, two very special guests, who have gained great popularity in their respective careers or work fields because of their hard work. Two very known social workers, we have Ms. Eden Everett, who is a Child Welfare social worker and we have Ms. Tessa, who works for children with disabilities. Hello and welcome to my show today. It’s an honour to have you guys here .

EE – thank you for having me.

TS – thank you for inviting us. It’s a pleasure.

J – So I’ve been wanting to invite the both of you for the longest time and it finally happened. I’ve heard a lot about you guys and can’t wait to talk to you further about things that are very important for one and all to know in today’s time.

EE – yes ofc.

TS – I’m excited!

J – So first and foremost, I’d like the both of you to introduce yourselves and talk a little about yourselves. We’ll start with Ms. Eden.

EE – Thank you, Joy. Hello everyone! I’m Eden Everett and I’m a child welfare social worker. I’ve been working in this field from the past 7 years and it’s been a great experience.

J – As we proceed, we’ll talk more about it.

EE – Yes, sure.

J – And Ms. Tessa?

TS – Yes thank you . Good morning everyone. I’m Tessa and I’m a social worker. I work for the children who suffer from various disabilities.

J – That’s great! Thank you for the introduction. So, I’d like you guys to ellaborate a little more and tell everyone what it is that you guys do and how do you help people?

EE – So since I specialise in child welfare assistance, what we do is we serve some of the most vulnerable children, youths and families. We specialise in building on the strenghts of families and helping them to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children and youths.

J – That’s interesting. And Ms. Tessa?

TS – Yes so, I specialise in helping children with any form of disabilities. We give them assistance and make sure that their environment is as healthy and friendly as possible.

J – Ms Tessa, so the field that you work in,the children are usually very introverted and most of the times they don’t like sharing with their parents about the abuse they suffer because of their disabilities or the difficulties they face! How do you deal with such cases?

TS – So I’ve been working in this field for about 8 years now and I’ve seen every sort of scenarios where the children had to suffer and some cases where the children brought it upon themselves that they want to be treated the way they’re being treated. So most of the children that I spoke to wouldn’t open up to me at first and they’d slowly start talking and sharing their experiences. But some were so traumatized that they wouldn’t even blink an eye, which was very painful for me to look at. But I’ve learnt different ways of communicating with such kids and I’m trying my best to help them in any way possible.

J – that’s amazing! So glad that you took the initiative to do so much research and to help them in any way possible. So Ms. Tessa, there are sometimes, a few cases where the parents give up on their children and keep demotivating their children, constantly reminding them of their disabilities and forcing them to accept that harsh and abusive behaviour that they experience instead of being their support system! What do you have to say about that!

TS – Yes that’s a very good question. About that, there have been also many instances where the parents would give up and they’d start showing their frustration on the children. So what we do is that we not only assist the children but we also help the parents of the children to understand their child’s legal rights. We help parents learn to be advocates and find special services that enable their children to be as independent as possible.

J – That’s so nice of you! I’m so glad that you take so much initiative to help them lead a better life, if not the best.

TS – thank you! That means a lot but I’m still working towards it! I’ve still got a lot to learn.

J – I hope the best for you.

TS – Thank you.

J – what about the services? Are they available at ease or how do you go about that?

EE – Yeah we have groups of social workers alloted in different states. We’ve tried to provide help and service across the country as much as possible and we’re still trying to broaden the network of helpers. We’ve also given out numbers that they could dial in order to receive help or merely even if they just want to talk about it. Any sort of help provided is very crucial and important for us.

J – That’s great. And Ms. Tessa?

TS – I think at the end of the day, if you look at it, though we specialise in different fields of social working and aid, we all comprise or fall under the same category that is social worker or proving aid. So I think when it comes to services, we follow the same pattern. We have groups that are 24/7 at service when required and we have the numbers given out, where the person if unable to meet in person, can talk about their problems and seek help because Joy, as you see there have been quite a few cases where the one suffering just needs someone to listen to him or her and that itself gives them so much peace and encouragement. So it is very important that we realize that even the tiniest amount of help, be it as mere as just listening to the one suffering, might be something very simple for us but in many ways it changes their life.

J – Absolutely true. Any sort of help that can be given out counts and is just as important as any sort of counselling or service provided .

TS – yes

EE – Absolutely. In fact, I’d like to point out that the children or youth I’ve helped these past few years have now taken upon themselves to help kids and youth who suffer from what they were suffering and I feel so proud of them for finally building up that courage and self-esteem to finally get over things or past experiences.

J – Thank you so much for the ending remarks. It was a please having the both if you on my show. I genuinely want to thank the both of you and your teams for the immense help and service you provide for those in need and help them live a happy and better life. And lastly, to all my beautiful listeners, don’t forget to be kind, spread love and always know that hating or looking down on someone will bring you no good. It’s better to realise from the past mistakes and strive to become a kind, empathetic human being. That is all for today. Thank you for listening, stay safe and I’ll meet you guys again next week.

Conclusion:
The above Radio script is just an example of how one could write a script. Just keep in mind that the questions need to be very clear and there must be no communication gap between the interviewer and the one being interviewed as that might confuse the listeners.

Adolescent problems

Introduction:
Adolescence is a stage occuring from puberty to legal adulthood. It’s a transition of physical and psychological development. It also means being a teenager. During this stage, teen-agers start finding an emotional distance between them and their parents. This might happen due to many reasons such as, them finding difficult to speak up about their problems or they’re already convinced that their parents won’t understand their feelings. The fear of not being understood is huge in this age group. This is the main reason teen-agers tend to be more closer to their friends as they think that because they’re of the same age, they will be heard and understood. In this article, I’ll mainly be talking about the different kinds of problems that adolescents face such as negative body image, peer and parental pressure, extreme stress.

• Negative body image:
Negative body image is a state where adolescents do not accept them for who they are and try to change the way they look or their appearance. This can create a lack of self esteem in children. There are many factors which can affect the way a child looks at themselves like their body type, height, weight, etc. Body image issues are actually quite serious as they affect how a teen feels about themselves. If a person is not confident about how they are or how they look it might affect their day-to-day activities too. When we talk about negative body images this also includes eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

• Peer pressure:
Peer pressure is when children are forced to do something they do not want to do. Sometimes they end up doing things they do not want to do to fit in order to be a part of a group. It could be stealing or drinking or smoking etc. It could also be possible that a teen and soft following a Very respected senior of friend of theirs to a club just because they looked up to that person and then mistreated there which could negatively affect the adolescent. Pure pressure is when I get involved in things they wouldn’t do it if they were alone.

• Parental pressure:
Parental pressure is when teams are expected to do something that they physically cannot. Parents give children really high standards and are expected to meet them, but the children are unable to do that and that causes extreme stress. Sometimes, teens even end up losing their lives over worrying about their parents as they’re afraid to confront their parents because they believe that their parents would be disappointed in them for not meeting their set standards. This could result in low self esteem and self hatred.

• Extreme stress:
Stress can be in the form of anything. Every child is different and therefore they might have different types of trigger or their tolerance towards situations is different. So, the only thing adults can do about it is to understand them and help them get through tough times in a calming way and not pressurise them even more.

Conclusion:
As I mentioned earlier, the only way to help teens is to let them take things at their own pace and try to be their friends whenever necessary. Don’t judge them all the time. Don’t compare them to other kids as that can affect them negatively and could create a distance between you and your child.

K-movie recommendations

Introduction:
Korean movies have come a long way. I’m sure all of us love movies and prefer to watch them while resting or when you’re going through a hard time. It’s an amazing way to calm yourself down and enjoy your leisure time. Movies don’t always have to be very taxing. Some movies make the person feel good and teach people how to just enjoy the moment and not think about anything stressful. Movies are a way to help people forget their problems for the time being. They’re a way of letting people know that it’s okay to rest and just take things easy. There’s nothing wrong with relaxing for a little while and everyone should know that there’s nothing to feel guilty about if you’re taking some time for yourself. In this article, I’ll be writing about 3 Korean movies I personally enjoyed watching.

Here, speed is the most important feature as being ahead of others is the main goal. The members of the ship meet a humanoid robot named Dorothy who is considered to be a weapon of mass destruction. They end up making a risky business deal. What choice would they make in the end?

Conclusion:
These are just some movies I recommend to those who are starting to get into the Korean wave. If you’re stressed out or struggling with anything, watching these movies might help you relax and help you have a good time.

Parenting and their types

Introduction:
Parenting is a way of parents understanding and learning about their children’s needs, emotional and psychological and physical ability. This does not have exclusivity to biological parents. It is the process of raising children in a healthy and loving environment where they have the space to grow and learn more about themselves and their needs. When children are raised properly, they learn to give back to the society and turn out to be good citizens. The type of parenting a child receives is very important as that determines what kind of person the child is going to grow up to be. The four types of parenting styles are: Authoritarian parenting, Authoritative parenting, Permissive parenting and Uninvolved parenting.

• Authoritarian Parenting:
Authoritarian parenting is when the parents are controlling and strict and they give very little freedom to their children. These parents are more focus on setting rules and regulations for their children rather than understanding them and their feelings. They always focus on how success is important and following the rules and listening to the parents is important. We can see very less self esteem in the children brought up with this kind of parenting as it gives children very little room to think for themselves and learn from their mistakes as their parents control every aspect of their life.

• Authoritative Parenting:
Authoritative parenting is much better way to bring up children compared to Authoritarian parenting as in this the parents show both strictness and warmth towards their children. Even though the parents write a few rules and regulations that children are supposed to follow, they are also given their own time and space to think about what they want to do and if it’s the right way to go forward with. Your children get to make their own decisions while having their parents support. We can see children with most self esteem compared to children who were brought up with authoritarian style of parenting.

• Permissive Parenting:
In the style of parenting the parents are caring and not showing but also not strict with rules and regulations. We can see a good relationship between the parents and children. The children are free to think for themselves and make their own decisions but they also learn to take responsibilities for their actions. Here, parents have low expectations and children show poor self control as they need to make all the decisions and some children might not adapt to this quickly. We can also see how children who grew up with this style of parenting have relationship problems in the future.

• Uninvolved Parenting:
This style of parenting is where the parents are not involved in the lives of their children. They think that just by providing them basic needs such as food, shelter etc, they have done their duty and they do not need to think about anything else anymore. There is no discipline strategy or any rules. The children are just left on their own to tackle the world. They are not given any ideas or strategies to go forward with. Children have to be responsible for themselves. Here we can see the children have very low self-esteem as they don’t know what to do with their life as they have never been led by an authority before.

Conclusion:
I understand that every parent would prefer a different kind of parenting but the main point of parenting is to help your children grow and it should be done at their pace. Some kids might be quick in learning and some slow but it’s all right because if they’re taught about how things work, they might learn it quickly. Make sure to always know your children and try to understand their needs and abilities.

Refreshing k-dramas

Introduction:
K-dramas hold a special place in my heart. Anytime I’m anxious or stressed out, I tend to watch or rewatch my favourite k-dramas as they’re fun and helps me relieve stress. One thing I don’t find fascinating about k-dramas are the cliché choices of few characters and scenes. Some of the most cliché choices would be having a rich male protagonist and a poor, helpless female protagonist, the protagonists most of the time having a childhood connection and how they got separated when they were young but meet when they’re both adults and magically fall in love and of course the “wrist grabbing”.

1) Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok Joo:
Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok Joo was released in the year 2016. The story revolves around Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung) who is pursuing her dream of winning the gold medal in weightlifting but then she gets a chance to find love for the first time in her life. She is attracted to a doctor. Even though she works with heavy metal and exercising for her weight lifting career she is also very feminine when it comes to relationships. She understands that balancing both of them could be a task. She has to decide between her career and her love life but she manages to make a balance between them. The characters in this drama are very elite athletes like swimmers and weightlifters and gymnast.

2) Strong Woman Do Bong Soon::
Strong woman Do Bong Soon was released in the year 2017. Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) is a petite and honest woman who is currently unemployed. She searches for jobs everywhere but is unable to get them. Even though she may look small and powerless she is in fact a very powerful women who has been gifted great strength by your and ancestors. Every woman in the family for generations have been gifted this. She does not expose her strength to others but the CEO of Ainsoft, Ahn Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Shik) happens to notice this and hires her as his bodyguard. She is in love with her best friend but later in the story would that change?

3) What’s wrong with Secretary Kim:
What’s wrong with Secretary Kim was released in 2018. The show revolves around the protagonist Lee Young Joon (Park Seo Joon) who is narcissistic and perfectionist. He is the vice President of the company run by his family. Kim Mi So (Park Min Young) is of very able and patient and talented secretary of his. She has been there with him for nine years but she suddenly decides to quit her job. This leaves Lee Young Joon perplexed and confused. The question here is even after all those 9 years, is there something more to their relationship or is it strictly professional?

4) At a distance, spring is green:
A distance, spring is green was released in 2021. It’s a story about few young people in their twenties facing problems in universities and how they tackle them. The main protagonists Nam Soo Hyun (Bae In Hyuk) and Yeo Joon (Park Ji Hoon) auto boys with totally different personalities but end up becoming friends from how much to learn about each other. This drama shows the realistic worries students have and how they balance between college life and their romantic interests.

Conclusion:
If you’re ever stressed out and need to spend some time relaxing then I recommend these shows. These were just some of my personal favourites.

Research method and its types

Introduction:
A specific way of collecting and analyzing data is called research method. What info is being collected and what data requires more importance for the research question is what the research method is dependent on. A research question is the question that a research project sets out to answer. The two types of research methods are collection of data and how that data is analyzed.

1] Collection of data: Deciding what data you would like to collect
To think about would it be qualitative or quantitative data you are collecting
Will the data be in form of numbers of words

•Primary or secondary data:
Primary data = collecting original data
Secondary data = using the data that has already been collected by someone else

•Descriptive or experimental:
Descriptive = using information as it is
Experimental = performing an experiment

2] How the data is analysed:

•For quantitative:
Statistical analysis methods to test relationships between variables.

•For qualitative:
Thematic analysis to interpret patterns and meanings of that data.

~ The 7 types of research methods are:
Survey method
Case study method
Ethnographic method
Interview method
Focus group
Experiment method
Archival study method

•Survey method:
The technique of collecting data by asking questions to people who might have desired answers is called survey. It covers a large audience. Examples of survey method are opinion polls and market research. Two tools of conducting survey are the questionnaire method and Interviews.

•Case study method:
A detailed study of any subject such as a person, place, group, event or organization is called case study. The main purpose of this method is to exemplify, to expand and to challenge. There are two types of case studies, outlying case study and representative case study.

•Ethnographic method:
The word ethnographic preserves its original meaning. It is a way of collecting data wile studying people in their natural settings or fields to capture the meaning of their everyday life. The field worker collects the data. He observes and questions the subject to understand them better. The two ways to conduct the experiment through this method are, open versus closed setting, overt versus covert approach and active versus passive approach.

•Interview method:
An interview is a face to face questioning from the interviewer the interviewee. These questions are open ended and it is more suitable for a small population. There are four types of interviews, structured interviews, unstructured interviews, semi-structured interviews and in depth interviews.

•Focus group:
Focus group focused on a group of 6-10 members with similar interests and characteristics who provide useful information. A trained moderator leads this group and gathers helpful information.

•Experiment group:
A group of independent variables are manipulated to see their effect on the dependent variables. This is called experiment method. They are mainly done to test a hypothesis.

•Archival study method:
Archival study method or the secondary data analysis involves analyzing data collected by others. It is mostly found in books, newspapers, magazines etc. It is also readily available to the reader.

Conclusion:
Research follows a particular discipline and method. As long as it is followed, your research will be a good one.

Erik Erikson’s psycho social development

Introduction:
Erik Erickson was a German-American development psychologist and psychoanalyst known for his theory on psychological development of human beings. Erik Erickson’s psychosocial development theory mainly talks about how human development happens in 8 stages and their personality development also takes place through these eight stages starting from infancy to old age. His argument was about how a social life was important and how in each stage, when we interact with other humans, we learn and grow together and help us understand our social environment and surroundings.

The psychosocial development is influenced by Sigmund Freud’s Id, Ego and Super Ego. Development is a lifelong process and is divided into eight stages and is called ‘crisis in personality’, later referred to as competing tendency. The eight stages are:

• Trust Vs Mistrust:
The first stage begins at the age of 12 months and continues till 18 months. The crisis in this stage is trust Vs mistrust. In the stage, the child learns a virtue in this stage called Hope. The first stage is where the child learns whom to trust and whom not. The mother is the most trusted person as the child feels more safe and connected to the mother than to anyone else.

• Autonomy Vs Shame:
The second stage is Autonomy Vs Shame. This stage starts from (12-18) months to 3 years. The virtue learnt here is Will. In this stage, child engages in activities and learns to be independent or the child grows up to be shy and timid. Autonomy means independence. So, their own decision of doing something or not is what is learnt in this stage.

• Initiative Vs Guilt:
The third stage is from 3 years to 6 years. The crisis here is initiative Vs guilt and the virtue learnt here is purpose. The child price to be initiative and creative and tries to learn new things of feels guilty towards learning anything new. The child takes initiative in learning new things and exploring new possibilities or the child feels like if they try to do something new it’s wrong or it shouldn’t be done that way.

• Industry Vs Inferiority:
The fourth state starts from 6 years and last puberty. The crisis here is industry Vs inferiority. The main virtue learnt here is competence. In the states the child learns new hobbies for activities and tries to be bold or the child feels inferior to others. This state is where the child explorers new activities or interest of their own or when they see other people doing new things or activities they feel they are not good enough for feel inferior to others.

• Identify Vs Identify Confusion:
The first stages from puberty to young adulthood. The crisis identity Vs identity confusion and the virtue learnt here is fidelity. At this stage the child tries learning about themselves and tries to establish and identity for themselves for the child is confused about who they are. This is an important stage as this is the building blocks for the rest of your life. If one does not know who they are then they cannot go on with their life.

• Intimacy Vs Isolation:
The 6th stage is young adulthood where the crisis is intimacy Vs isolation. The virtue learnt here here is love. Here, the child learns to communicate with the opposite sex and establishes a connection or is shy and spends time in isolation.

• Generativity Vs Stagnation:
The 7th stage is middle adulthood. The virtue learnt here is care. Here, the person learns to care for others and to be productive or is stagnant. Either they try to help other people how they learnt from their mistakes or they just do not care about anyone else other than themselves.

• Ego Integrity Vs Despair:
The eight stages late adulthood. The virtue learnt here is wisdom. Here, the adult is either a smart person who is proud of how they have led their life or someone who’s in despair because of how they lived. You can either be proud of who you are or you will regret what ever you have done in your life. That is what this stage is about.

Conclusion:
Development just doesn’t take place in one particular time period. It lasts throughout your lifetime and therefore it is important to learn from your mistakes and make sure to lead a good life so when you look back at how you led your life, you can be proud of who you are and were.

How you can improve your thinking ability

Introduction:
Thinking process refers to the steps or ways required to fulfill/achieve/complete a task. It’s an important aspect of critical thinking. Critical thinking is the objective analysis of a problem by carefully stating your arguments to reach a desired and rational conclusion/judgement/result. When thinking processes are involved, we can reach a more clear conclusion and it helps us be a better judge of character and helps us build reasonable arguments.

The few main things to keep in mind to improve ones thinking process and ability are:

• Train your Memory:
Training your memory refers to how one can improve their memory by reading or making sure that your brain is never stagnant. If one trains their memory regularly then it’s possible for them to retain information. Reading and writing regularly, memorization is an useful way to do so.

• Question facts:
Whenever you learn a new fact, try to find out more about it and try to question as to why it’s the way it is. Try not to think the conventional way and always think outside the box. Even if it’s something you’ve known for a long time and it’s always been the way it is, question it’s authenticity and it’s relatability.

• Read:
Make it a habit to read a lot, even it’s just a page a day, remember to read. It’s an important element to improve your thinking ability. Reading helps your vocabulary and it also intrigues your mind and makes you question what’s around you.

• Self awareness:
To have an excellent thinking ability, becoming self aware is very necessary. Noticing your surroundings and changes happening with you can help you overcome your narrow-minded attitude as you get to learn so much about yourself and how mature you can be when the situation calls for it.

• Active listening:
While getting yourself involved in the process of improving your thinking ability, active listening plays an important role. Just like how you need to be aware of your surroundings, listening carefully to others and your own self is very important. Never ignore your gut feeling. While trying to come to a conclusion, always try to consider the opinion of others too and compare it with your arguments to see which would be a better fit for the situation to resolve.

• Rest:
While trying to improve your thinking ability, resting is very significant. While trying to learn new information and retaining that information, your brain might be overworked and needs a few minutes for itself before it starts to proceed gaining new information. Resting doesn’t only mean to lie down or to close your eyes. It could mean anything which is peaceful for you, it could be exercising, meditation, painting, singing, dancing etc. There’s no fixed method. Whatever brings you peace and calms you down can be called resting.

• Engage in multitasking:
Doing one task at a time is great but it’s amazing if you’re capable of completing 2 or more tasks at the same time. Don’t always play safe. Try to come out of your comfort zone and learn something new. Completion of many tasks at a time could save you time and energy which will therefore give you more time to engage in other interests.

Conclusion:
There’s no fixed way of knowing how to improve your thinking ability. It’s all about how much you want to put in effort to better yourself so it mainly depends on you.

Pollution

Introduction:
Pollution is a major issue or concern I today’s times. Pollution is when the natural environment gets contaminated by contaminants which in turn cause great damage to the environment. Pollution comes in many different substances such as noise, heat or light. It could be natural or which is created due to human activity like trash or factories. Pollution comes with the cost. It could affect our health as a whole and it will also cost a lot to the society clean it up. In this article I am mainly going to talk about the types of pollution such as water pollution, noise pollution, air pollution and plastic pollution.

• Water pollution:
Water pollution is the contamination of water and water bodies with either physical, chemical or biological properties of water due to the discharge of industrial elements or any substance like liquid, solid or gas into water. It could be dangerous for public health as consuming this contaminated water could lead to diseases and unsafe health conditions. It could also affect agriculture. It’s also possible to harm the marine life, the living organisms in water such as fishes, corals etc. The main way to prevent water pollution is if people and industries don’t throw waste and toxic discharge into the water.

• Noise pollution:
One of the most prominent types of pollution is the existence of noise pollution. It refers to the presence of excessive or loud sound or noise in the environment. It might not sound too dangerous but it could be dangerous for human and animal health. There can be many ways noise pollution can be created, some are from big vehicles, large industries or even during constructions, the constant noise can be very inconvenient and uncomfortable for many. Another reason could be due to loud speakers during festivals, concerts etc. Even listening to music at a loud volume could damage our hearing. Some ways to avoid damaging your ears would be to listen to volume at an acceptable volume and try to avoid any festival which use big, huge speakers.

• Air pollution:
Air pollution is something that happens when there is pollutant present in the atmosphere. It needs to be high in concentration to cause harm to humans, animals and plants. Anything which contaminates or harms the air or makes it dirty and not comfortable to breathe is called air pollution. Air pollution could cause great damage as it’s what we breathe every day and even if we can’t see effects immediately, it could affect us later in life. It affects every form of being, anything which breathes and needs oxygen to survive.

• Plastic pollution:
Plastic pollution mainly refers to the fact that the environment is getting contaminated by plastic and products made of plastic. Plastic products such as milk packets, plastic straws, plastic bags etc are all causes for the pollution. The only way to prevent this it is by making sure to not use plastic bags and even if you do, don’t throw it away especially into the ocean.

Conclusion:
It is very important to preserve our earth and contamination is not the way to do it. We must make sure that the planet we live in is safe for everyone, including ourselves. As global warming is increasing, we need to look back on our actions and help overcome this setback.

Karakku

Caste discrimination faced by Bama

Introduction:
Karakku is a novel written by the Tamil Dalit writer Mary Faustina Fatima Rani. In this novel she speaks about a lot of problems faced by the Dalits and how they were discriminated and exploited. She expresses her angst and her pain through her writing. The most prominent one is the problems faced by the dalits is that of caste discrimination. Bama belongs to the untouchable class called Parayas.

• Even though her living standards were not luxurious, it was still a little better than others as her father was an army officer and because of that, whenever he came back home, there was always food at the table. She also had an older brother who made her aware of the conditions of Dalits and help to understand why it is important to overcome it.

• In the Indian society, the discrimination of people based on their caste was rampant. Every person was judged according to which caste they belong to and showed respect accordingly.

• The problem with food:
The people of the upper caste always got to eat all the tasty food like the fishes with fancy names but the lower caste people always had to settle for the cheap fishes as that is what they could afford. She tells us how the lower caste people are the ones who do all the work yet only the rich benefit from it.

• The problem of exploitation and untouchability:
Bama mentions the exploitation of the poor Dalits by the rich Naickers and tells us how that is the reason that the Dalits haven’t prospered yet. She talks about work and how the Dalits had to work all their lives just to make ends meet and they were not even be rewarded for it. An example or incident is when a lady was holding a ‘bajji’ with a string so she does not touch it while giving it to a Naicker. At first Bama found this incident funny but after she was explained about the concept of untouchability by her brother she gets a little furious.

• The problem of Education:
The next problem that the Dalits face is the problem of education. Not all Dalits have the luxury or opportunity to attend school and receive an education. The children or not allowed education and even if they are, they are not given equal opportunities and are always identified by their caste.
Bama also faced or experienced these during her school days but she managed to gain the trust and respect of her peers and teachers as she was a very bright student. That is when Bama realised that if every child is given this opportunity to receive education, they would be independent and would not have to struggle to make ends meet and would also be a respectable citizen of the country.

• Visible Caste discrimination:
In the future when she joined the convent and taught for 5 years, Bama also realised that the caste discrimination still exists. She realised that where there was a vow to help the Dalit children, really care about that aspect. Nobody tried to teach the children what their rights are and how they can together work to overcome their problems as a community and prosper.

Conclusion:
All of these incidents show us the plight of the dalits and how difficult their lives are on a daily basis. They need to overcome problems every day, in every field they go to. There is no leniency for the poor which shows us that the hierarchy of caste is an atrocious topic and everyone should be treated equally.

Basics of Communication

Introduction:
Communication happens when there is exchange or transfer of information between people through channels. The main elements for communication to happen is when there is a sender, a receiver a message and feedback. Communication is a very important part of a daily life and without communicating one cannot just go on spending their life without it. The communicator needs to make sure that the receiver or the audience understands the information and has no confusion. The 10 most important elements of communication are sender receiver, message, feedback, context, effect, noise, encoding, decoding and channel.

• Sender:
Sender is the one who is sending all the messages he/she is the one who addresses the audience and is also called speaker. The sender needs to be an effective communicator for the audience to understand them clearly. The speaker needs to be bold and for about what he is trying to convey.

• Receiver:
Receiver is the person who receives the message. They are also called the audience. The understand what the speaker is trying to convey and try to implement or interpret whatever they have understood. They are the ones who are capable of questioning the speaker if they are doubtful of something.

• Message:
What the speaker and receiver are communicating about is known as the message. This is the element which holds all the information about what the speaker is trying to convey and what the receiver is trying to understand. Messages can be many type it doesn’t always have to be formal or informal. The message depends on the audience and the speaker.

• Channel:
Channel refers to the medium in which they are communicating. It could be through Television, radio and newspapers or even to face to face communication. The receiver will understand the message even more clearly if it is face to face communication as the receiver can clear the doubts immediately. It also depends on how effective the speaker is.

• Encoding:
Encoding happens in the mind of the speaker when a message is about to be sent to the the audience. Encoding is an important process as if the speaker does not encode his information properly then the audience will not know what they are learning and there will be confusion among the audience. This might lead to communication gap and few misunderstandings.

• Decoding:
When the information is received by the audience from the speaker, they start to decode the message. This process happens so that they understand the message properly and clear about what they learnt. Decoding is a process of understanding the message sent to them. If this does not happen then the audience will not know what the speaker is trying to convey which might create problems.

• Noise:
Communication is also called the barrier to communication. This happens when, if a person is communicating with someone and there is an external disturbance, it is termed as noise. It will come in different forms like humans or things or nature etc.

• Effect:
Effect is what impact has been left on the audience. We get to see the effect in communication with the listener reacts to that information given by the speaker. The better the speaker, the better the impact or effect.

• Feedback:
Feedback is what the sender received by the audience. The audience lets them know if they were impactful and thoughtful enough through this process of feedback. This helps the speaker to better or advance his talents and skills.

• Context:
Context is what the speaker is trying to refer to while giving the speech. If there is no context to the speech, then the entire speed has no meaning to it.

Conclusion:
In communication, all the 10 elements are important and more than these, skills matter the most as if one is not skillful then no matter how useful the information is, it won’t leave the speaker in an effective way and it definitely will not reach the audience in an impactful manner.
