Student should not be allowed to play PUBG??

Several people around the world suffer from different kinds of addictions including drug addiction, mobile addiction and TV addiction to name a few. The latest to join the bandwagon is the PUBG mobile game addiction and this one is proving to be the worst of all.

People addicted to PUBG are so hooked to the game that they often skip their meals and important tasks just to play the game. This addiction has also resulted in erratic sleep patterns which is a cause of great concern. Numerous mental and physical health issues have been noticed in PUBG addicts.

People suffering from PUBG addiction have a high risk of developing health issues such as chronic migraine, weakened eyesight, obesity, insomnia, Alzheimer, heart problem, depression, spondylitis, and schizophrenia. They lose interest in activities that are needed for a healthy living.

Skipping social events, important business meetings and family gatherings is quite common among PUBG mobile game addicts. They prefer playing PUBG rather than indulging in any of these activities. They get angry and upset if someone guides them otherwise. They soon grow socially isolated.

Kids are worst affected by this addiction. Parents should take it as their responsibility to identify the warning signs of PUBG addiction in their kids. They must help their kids get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Since the dispatch of its versatile variant, PUG’s notoriety has shot up massively. The player base of the game cut over all age gatherings and incorporate youngsters, youthful, grown-ups and older folks too. The fixation for the game in some school and school going understudies is extraordinary to such an extent that it genuinely bargains their well being and scholastic.  Kids are seen playing PUBG for longer hours at a stretch and build up a frame of mind of hostility and brutality, affected by the game.   Various odd occurrences around the globe, identified with PUBG, have been accounted for now and again. There had been report of a Chinese kid hopping to death affected by the game. A man in Malaya apparently left his family, since they upset him while playing PUBG. A youthful wellness coach from Jammu and Kashmir in India, start dispensing twisted on self in the wake of playing PUBG consistently for ten days.

PUBG is a first person shooter game. The Android version of the game was released in March 2018. It became a quick hit. The game received a great response when it was released on Microsoft Windows in December 2017.

The release of its mobile version saw many downloads around the world and interest in the game increased. PUBG’s craze can be seen in people of all ages. However, it is especially popular among young people. While the game was launched for the purpose of entertainment, it is a dangerous addiction.

PUBG mobile game addiction is ruining the lives of youth

PUBG mobile game addiction is ruining the lives of youth. Here’s how it’s messed up with his personal and professional life:

Hinders in studies

Students of PUBG spend most of their time playing this game. They ignore their studies. Even when they are compelled to study by their parents or teachers, they are unable to concentrate. This is because because of playing the brain, the activity of the brain gradually slows down and the duration of meditation decreases. It also reduces the ability to understand things. Research shows that students accustomed to PUBG are seeing a decline in their academic performance.

Work of hummers

Like students, PUBG mobile game addict is also wasting their lives. Rather than focusing on his career, he is connected to PUBG. They are unable to think beyond winning this game. Many working professional leaves, half days, delays in depositing projects, miss important meetings, and ignore their job responsibilities due to PUBG addiction. They also depict unprofessional behavior that inhibits the growth of their careers.

Ruins personal relation

Pub mobile game addiction is also wasting personal relations. PUBG addicts spend most of their time playing games. The time he should spend with his family and friends, he gets away from this addiction. It affects personal relationships and causes a lot of stress.

Conclusion

PUBG Mobile Addiction is thus interrupting people’s personal as well as in professional life. The problem should be taken seriously and before it is too late

Equality

“Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what little girls are made of.” This is a famous nursery rhyme that is recited by loving parents almost as soon as a child is brought home from the hospital. But does it serve as the backbone for gender stereotypes that permeate our society? Today women make up more than half of college graduates but according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010) only 13.8% serve as engineers and 24.8% are working in computer and mathematics fields. The resounding question is why aren’t women choosing these occupations? On one side of the argument is the belief that it is a scientific fact that girls just aren’t as talented at math as boys, and on the other side is the belief that girls are…

Over the past few decades, hundreds of studies have tried to explain why girls tend to shy away from mathematical related fields. The discussions focus on determining if gender differences in achievement are biological, social, or both (Bandura, et al., 2001). Zhu asserts (2007) that biological, psychological, and environmental variables all play a role in the gender gap in mathematics. Rochat (2001, p.133) agrees stating “cognition and cognitive development are inseparable from social adaptation.”
From an early age, children’s activities are separated into “boy things” and “girl things.” This early socialization creates a culture that provides the background for performance in school (Gallagher, 1998). Boys tend to explore their surroundings and are considered to have aggressive, objective, and logical traits (Plante, et al., 2009). When a boy is climbing a tree, he is learning several concepts such as spatial visualization on how to navigate the different limbs, problem solving on how to get down once firmly established in an upside-down leg hang, risk-taking by going one branch higher than his best buddy, and gravity, when ultimately he has to take the fall because he got in over his head. Girls, on the other hand, tend to be rule-followers, pleasers, emotional, kind, and more concerned with relationships (Plante, et al., 2009).

Life is not fair; get used to it.” The famous first rule of Bill Gates’s “11 rules you will never learn in school” resonates with everybody, but probably more with women than men. According to the Global Gender Gap Index, 108 years are needed to close the global gender gap. While classical economic models predict that discrimination on the basis of characteristics such as gender should naturally disappear thanks to competition, reality seems to tell a different story.

The lack of women in male-dominated and high-paying industries such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is often cited as a critical factor behind the gender gap. Even though girls perform as well as boys in math and science standardized tests at school, fewer women consider a professional career in these fields. Women seem to face different hurdles that have little to do with their abilities. Gender stereotypes are one of them.

What are gender stereotypes?
While men are generally portrayed as having agency characteristics such as competence, achievement-orientation, inclination to take charge, autonomy and rationality, women are associated with communal characteristics such as concern for others, affiliation tendencies, deference and emotional sensitivity. These characteristics are not only different, they tend to be oppositional: lay people on average believe that men should not be excessively warm (communal) and that women should not be excessively dominant (agency). Research on these generalizations has been extensive and shows they are consistent across culture, time and context.

Stereotypes often serve as shortcuts for forming impressions of people and guide our decisions, without people being completely aware of it. Gender preconceptions have important consequences for the workplace. Here are some examples:

• No credit where credit is due

Whenever women are working with men on male gender-typed tasks, men are more likely to be credited for joint successes and women are more likely to be blamed for joint failures. These negative performance expectations can only be overturned when the woman’s individual contribution is unquestionable, or her task competence is very high.

• Men are promoted on potential, women are promoted for proven performance

Research shows that women are held to stricter standards for promotion: promoted women have higher performance ratings than promoted men, and performance ratings are more strongly related to promotions for women than for men.

• The backlash effect: competent but bossy and unlikeable

When women counter their stereotype and break expectations about how they “should” behave, they pay the cost: dominant women are perceived as less likeable and less hireable than men. A 2016 survey of more than 30,000 employees found that women who negotiated for promotions were 30% more likely than men to be labelled intimidating, bossy or aggressive.

The paradox: defy or conform?
When women conform to gender stereotypes (e.g. by showing emotional sensitivity and concern for others), they are likely to be perceived as less competent. But, if they defy these stereotypes and behave “like a man” (e.g. by showing dominance, ambition and rationality), they will be penalized by a backlash effect. Successful women in male gender-typed fields are well aware of this effect. Speaking at the American Economic Association’s annual meeting in January, Susan Athey, a world-renowned economist, said “I spent all my time hoping that no one would remember I was female.”

Men, too, can be penalized when they do not conform to these gender stereotypes. A recent study found that the gender of the initial role occupant (a microcredit loan manager in this case) was enough to influence the authority enjoyed by future individuals in that role. In other words, when a borrower was paired with a female manager, he/she gender-typed the role as a female-typed role and was less compliant than if he/she was initially paired with a male manager. This bias remains even after being subsequently managed by the other gender (ie a male manager in our example).

Stereotypes harm us all
Stereotypes are entrenched beliefs perpetuated by both men and women, present in our minds since childhood. Anybody can easily fall into this trap. Curious? You can test your unconscious association between gender and science/arts by taking the Gender-Career Implicit Association Test. Seventy percent of people who took this test across 34 countries associated science as being more male than female.

Unfortunately, anti-discrimination legislation, codes of conduct, diversity criteria or legal actions can’t fight this more subtle form of discrimination. You can’t sue your boss for consciously or unconsciously believing that you don’t have what it takes to succeed.

The ball is in our court
Raising awareness of these challenges alone is insufficient. To change mindsets, women should do three things:

  1. Learn – because knowledge is power

Have you ever had the feeling of having been ripped off by your repair shop? If yes, you are not alone. A research paper found that auto-repair shops alter their price quotes depending on how informed callers appear to be about prices. When callers signaled that they had no idea about what the repair should cost, women were quoted a higher price than men. But these gender differences disappeared when a benchmark price was indicated.

This example illustrates how a single piece of information could help reduce any gender-related price discrimination (and might also start changing car mechanics’ expectations about women). Interestingly, the study also found that repair shops were more likely to offer a lower price if asked by a woman than by a man. So, informed women ended up having an advantage over men.

The #SheCANics movement is a powerful example of empowering women through awareness, education and support.

  1. Move confidently into male-dominated areas and speak up

Let’s be honest: stereotypes won’t disappear unless people understand they are harmful. Women in male-dominated environments can help raise awareness. Role models play a crucial role in promoting gender equality and fighting gender stereotypes (e.g. Billie Jean King in sport, Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In initiative and the #banbossy campaign). Even advertisers are moving into this space and are starting to actively address women (eg Gillette’s ad “The Best Men Can Be” or Serena Williams’ Bumble commercial).

  1. Prepare to react

Women should anticipate and prepare to react to inappropriate or discriminating comments. For example, when the American celebrity Lauren Conrad was asked on radio “What is your favorite position?”, she briefly paused and replied “CEO”.

While such questions or comments were acceptable in the past, it is our role today to make sure they will no longer be tolerated. Those perpetuating gender stereotypes should bear the consequences of such behaviour. A recent example is Martin Solveig’s apology after making a sexist comment during the Ballon d’Or ceremony. We must accept that biases exist, own them and retrain our brains to overcome them. Life might not be fair, but we can do something about it.

My groovy kind of love !

For some people, love can be used to describe almost everything. But I have one question is it necessary that love can exist between humans only?

I strongly believe that love can be for anything living or non living doesn’t matter.

For me love is the most secure feeling .Love is having a companion, best friend, and buddy through every avenue in journey of life. Perhaps you can attain all these feelings with non human entity too.

Today I am here to tell you my love for writing.

WHY I LOVE TO WRITE?

I am my characters and my characters are me, but we are very different versions of each other. I write to sink into those souls and skins and be reborn under a different, unfortunately fictional, sun. A sun that promises brighter fates and futures, I write to reborn into my fictitious realms which hold magic and everything I lack.

I am a youngster with extravagant ideas that I condense and place onto a page. I realize my poems are dark and painfully real. I realize my stories are wild and far-fetched and very unrealistic, but these are the things that develop my style. Reality is cold and unforgiving. Writing, however, is anything you want it to be. Writing is freedom, love, bravery. Writing is death, pain and sorrow. Whatever direction you want your stories to go in. Writing is a way of forming thoughts into deep, magical words that pierce the human psyche.

Writing is a way of escape. To break away from the suffocating and dreary world around me, or sometimes, to forever encase my sorrows in diary. Writing, for me, is like the emergency exit of living. I write because I know that even when nobody will listen to me and hear my voice, the paper will never reject my pen.

My words belong to me and, of course, anyone who wishes to read them. But they are still my words. I am an artist. I am a storyteller. I am a poet. I am an author. I am a writer.

The heart and soul of a writer lives in the words on the page.

This has been my mantra, my understanding, of reading and writing since long now. I believe that writing will tell you more about the writer than any words that ever come out of their mouths, whether the author wills it or not.

Writing is ultimately about expression. The expression of thoughts, ideas, and emotion. Through reading and writing, we as humans can connect on a deeper level than what can be accomplished through almost any other means. You can feel my heart, see inside and understand the essential “me.” And I you ……

I write, because I want to reach the end of my imagination and then break through it. Writing helps me lose or find myself, depending on what I need to feel, and when I need to feel it … it gives me the chance to live thousands of lives in thousands of realities, exploring every possible scenario no matter how minuscule it might be. Through the order I put my words on paper, I can create everything and look from the eyes of it all.

To me, writing is a superpower like no other; it can be art, it can be a simple instruction or it can be a weapon. I write not because it gives me the power of a god, but because it makes me feel human. I write because I should, I write because I can, because I must. I have tried not writing on purpose, and I didn’t last long; writing is an itch that can be scratched only by it. It’s a question and an answer at the same time. I write; because it helps me live, not simply exist. I love it. I hate it. I am disappointed in it, and I am also proud of it. Writing is a mental mirror, an extension of yourself that helps you communicate with the pure reflection of what your soul is.

I write because that is when I am most myself and least myself. I pick the subject from my mind and heart, I gather the words from my mind and ear, but I write from a stream that flows from beyond me or deep within me. I may hate to begin writing, I may love to have written, but I definitely live in the space between the two. I write to discover myself. The words I put down tell the tale my speech can never seem to capture.

Many people have always asked me why I write. I never really know what reason to tell them, besides the fact I simply trust my pen the most. It’s my way to escape to my own world. When I talk, awkward garbage spills out. When I write (and rewrite!) I’m elegant and precise. When I write, truths that aren’t usually heard are given a place, a face and a purpose.

All in all,

I LOVE writing because there are no expectations, no lying and doubting, no reason of giving up.

I would prefer to be in peaceful bond where I can trust for whole life!

And openly I can say “YES I AM IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH MY PEN AND I LOVE WRITING UNCONDITIONALLY”.

“A writer is a world trapped inside a person.”

Leopons: Hybrids Between Leopards and Lions

Animals all over the world are known to exhibit unnatural behaviors in a typical zoo environment. The pairings which very little off chance of happening in the wild or a natural environment can surely be imagined happening in a zoo. One such pairing is between a lioness and a leopard. In the wild, they both use different mating techniques and would be unlikely to find themselves in a position of compatibility. However, factors change when talking about the same animals in the confined environment of a zoo. They have been successfully bred in captivity to produce a hybrid known as a leopon.

Leopons have been bred in zoos in India, Japan, and Germany. Originally bred for the leopard fur, the hybrid offspring proved to be very sterile. The last of the leopons in India died in 1985, but the British Museum of Natural History still has the leopon skin and skull from an animal bred at the Kolhapur Zoo, India in 1910.

The most successful leopon program was in Nishinomiya City in Japan. Here a lioness named Sonoko was mated to a leopard called Kaneo, both born in 1955 in the Koshien Hanshin Park. The first litter of two leopon cubs was born in 1959 after a gestation period of 97 days. This is an intermediate between the gestation period of a leopard (90 – 95 days) and a lion (105 – 110 days). Usually, in captivity, the big cat males are known to show social behavior and the same happened with Kaneo when he remained with the family after the birth. After this, the couple had three more cubs in 1962.

Leopons are larger in size than leopards and have the combined features of the parents, that is, a lion and a leopard. They have a lion’s stout body while the rest of the appearance resembles a fuzzy leopard with spots and shorter legs. Instead of the classic black spots of a leopard, they have paler brown spots and a reddish-yellow skin. Their tails are tufted like that of a lion while they love to climb trees and play in the water, much like leopards. This distresses the lioness mother as lions are known to hate water. On maturing, the males have a small and sparse mane about 20 centimeters long while the females deal with an internal conflict of having to choose between the solitary lifestyle of a leopard and the social nature of a lioness. Their lifespan is about 20 years, which is more than that of a leopard (12 – 17 years) and that of a lion (10 – 14 years). The lioness mother, leopard father, and leopon offspring were taxidermized and are still on display.

hybrid

Even though it is very unlikely for such hybrids to occur in a natural state, there still are reports suggesting otherwise. Such a natural hybrid is called a Marozi. As for the case of a reciprocal cross between a male lion and a female leopard, the hybrid is known as a lipard and was last found in Italy.

How Insomnia Affects our Health???

Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which you have trouble falling and/or staying asleep. The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic). It may also come and go. Acute insomnia lasts from 1 night to a few weeks. Insomnia is chronic when it happens at least 3 nights a week for 3 months or more. There are two types of insomnia primary and secondary. Primary insomnia: This means your sleep problems aren’t linked to any other health condition or problem.Secondary insomnia: This means you have trouble sleeping because of a health condition (like asthma, depression, arthritis, cancer, or heartburn); pain; medication; or substance use (like alcohol).

There are three different types of Insomnia:-

  • Acute insomnia. A brief episode of difficulty sleeping.
  • Chronic insomnia. A long-term pattern of difficulty sleeping.
  • Comorbid insomnia. Insomnia that occurs with another condition.
  • Onset insomnia. Difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the night.
  • Maintenance insomnia. The inability to stay asleep.

Research shows that comorbid insomnia accounts for 85 to 90 percent of chronic insomnia. Insomnia also increases with age. Sometimes insomnia goes away after lifestyle factors such as family or work stress resolve. For more serious cases, addressing the underlying cause can improve your sleep quality.Treating insomnia is important because this condition can increase your risk for other health concerns.

What happens if someone suffers from Insomnia:-

  1. There is an increased risk for medical conditions such as strokes, asthma attacks, seizures, weak immune system, sensitivity to pain, inflammation, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases, etc.
  2. There is an increased risk of mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and confusion and frustration.
  3. There is an increased risk of accidents. Performance in school can be declined. It can affect our sex drive, memory, and judgement as well.
  4. There is a shortened life expectancy. Having insomnia can shorten your life expectancy. An analysis of 16 studies that covered over 1 million participants and 112,566 deaths looked at the correlation between sleep duration and mortality. They found that sleeping less increased risk for death by 12 percent, compared to those who slept seven to eight hours per night. A more recent study looked at the effects of persistent insomnia and mortality over 38 years. They found that those with persistent insomnia had a 97 percent increased risk of death.

Causes of Insomnia:-

There is primary Insomnia, which has no underlying cause, and secondary insomnia, which is attributable to an underlying cause. Some causes can be stress, jet lag, poor sleep habits, eating too late in the evening, not sleeping on a regular schedule due to work or travel. There are some medical causes as well, such as, mental health disorders, medications such as antidepressants or pain medications, conditions such as cancer, heart disease and asthma, chronic pain, restless leg syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea, etc.

Although it’s common to have insomnia from time to time, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor if the lack of sleep is negatively affecting your life. As part of the diagnostic process, your doctor will likely perform a physical exam and ask you about your symptoms. They will also want to know about any medications you take and your overall medical history. This is to see if there’s an underlying cause for your insomnia. If there is, your doctor will treat that condition first.

What we can do ourselves to treat Insomnia:-

There are many strategies for treating insomnia. Before you talk to your doctor about medications, try making lifestyle changes. Medications provide effective short-term results, but long-term use is associated with mortality. We can go for Melatonin Supplements. This over-the-counter hormone can help regulate sleep by telling your body that it’s time for bed. Higher melatonin levels make you feel sleepier, but too much can disrupt your sleep cycle and cause headaches, nausea, and irritability. Adults can take between 1 and 5 milligrams, an hour before bed. Talk to your doctor about dosage before taking melatonin, especially for children.

Sleep Medications. Talk to your doctor about sleep medications if lifestyle changes aren’t working. Your doctor will look for underlying causes and may prescribe sleep medication. They’ll also tell you how long you should take it. It’s not recommended to take sleeping pills on a long-term basis.

Hence, Insomnia affects our health really bad in the long go. At first we would don’t even know that something is wrong with us. So, it’s better to change our sleeping patterns and also doing little changes in our lifestyle.

A graduate from NIT Hamirpur, Shantanu belongs to a modest service class family. While preparing for CAT exam, he earned 3 years of working experience in a fertilizer industry. Read his CAT preparation strategy and success mantra

Coming from the small town of Surat in Gujarat, Shantanu Singh Yadav cracked CAT 2019 with 99.73 percentile and has converted number of top B-schools including IIM Ahmedabad. A graduate from NIT Hamirpur, Shantanu belongs to a modest service class family. While preparing for CAT exam, he earned 3 years of working experience in a fertilizer industry.

Shantanu appeared in CAT 2018 also, and scored 95.73 percentile but decided to prepare again to get his dream B-school. He likes playing Football and his hobbies and interests include Photography, Trekking and Hiking.

MBAUniverse.com invited Shantanu to share his exam taking strategy and GD-PI experience. Read on for his views and success mantras.

Q: How did you perform in CAT 2019?

A: I scored 99.73 overall percentile in CAT 2019; 89.44 percentile in VARC section; 99.76 in DILR Section and 99.86 percentile in Quantitative Ability section. I also appeared in CAT 2018 and scored 95.73 percentile.

Q: Apart from CAT 2019, which other exams did you appear?

A: Apart from CAT 2019, I appeared in XAT 2020 and scored 99.914 percentile; appeared in IIFT 2020 and scored 98.74 percentile.

Q: Which top B-schools have offered you admission and which one you have finally chosen?

A: Apart from getting final admission offer from IIM Ahmedabad, I have converted IIM Calcutta, IIM Shillong, MDI Gurgaon, all Baby IIMs. I have finally decided to join IIM Ahmedabad

Q: What have been your academics and family back ground? Do you have some work experience as well?

A: I graduated from NIT Hamirpur with Chemical Engineering in 2017 with 82.6 percent. I scored 91.2 percent in class X; 90.2 in class XII and 82.6 in Graduation. I have 3 years of work experience in the Fertilizer Industry. I belong to a service class family. My father is in Service, Mother is a housewife and younger brother is in 11th grade.

Q: What was your overall preparation strategy for CAT?

A: CAT 2019 was my second attempt at the exam, when the first one in 2018 fetched me admits to some new and baby IIMs. I started preparing again in May’19, mostly focusing on mocks and timing my attempts effectively. I started cross-checking and analysing my wrong answers, something I never used to do earlier.

The quants section was my strength but still I devoted equal time to all the three sections with some extra effort towards DI and LR which is I believe is the most unpredictable section in the exam. You could practice a hell lot of LR sets prior to the exam but might still hassle on the D-Day. LR sets are not straightforward like Quants or DI sets. Timing my complete mocks and sectional tests along with thoroughly analysing my wrong as well as right attempts turned out to be fruitful.

Q: Please share your sectional preparation strategy for VARC in CAT

A: For Verbal and RC, I used to read articles from diverse fields to get a hold of difficulty faced to comprehend as well as retain a column when it does not belong to something you’re usually used to. Reading articles from newspapers and business magazines not only helped in VA and RC but also made a solid base to ace the current affairs during the interview and GD rounds.

Q: Please share your preparation strategy for DILR Section

A: For DILR, I focused mostly on LR and LR based DI sets, as for the past few years you rarely get to see a pure DI set in the actual exam. LR being the most unpredictable section in CAT, I followed a strategy to solve and analyse each and every set I face either during mocks or during practise from dedicated books. Try looking for practise material online on GoogleDrive and you’ll find plenty of LR sets to solve. IMS’s mocks helped a lot in DI LR section as they had questions which were closest to the ones actually faced in the CAT Exam.

Q: Please share your preparation strategy for Quant Section

A: For Quants, I thoroughly practised books by Arun Sharma with a timed approach to solve at least 25-28 questions from various topics under 60 minutes. Apart from this I also solved previous years’ CAT papers with minimal use of on screen calculator.

Q: Was there any particular section/area that you were weak at? How did you overcome this challenge?

A: I was lagging a bit in VA and LR during my initial preparation. For VA there’s only one approach and that is to read, read and read. Read from publications you’re not familiar or used to. Read foreign journals/magazines, editorials in intl. newspapers etc. For LR I solved as many sets I could get my hands on with a timed approach, trying to crack the set within 10-12 minutes was my strategy.

Q: What role did Mocks play in your success? How many mocks did you attempt before the exam?

A: Mocks are the key to better preparation as well as time management skills. I solved about 40 mocks before the actual CAT.

Q: Did you self-prepare or attend a coaching centre and why?

A: I self-prepared for the exams and took guidance from IMS Surat for the WAT-GD-PI. I also enrolled for mocks with IMS because of their well-structured and closest to CAT mocks.

Q: Please share your strategy for the CAT Day. What was your last-minute preparation? How did you plan your CAT test taking?

A: Strategy for D-Day would be to avoid any last minute preparation. Since the syllabus for CAT is so wide and even has no boundaries defined for VARC and DILR, last minute hustle mostly turns fruitless and overloads you with added stress. I appeared for one mock, a day before the exam and scored just 16 in VARC which freaked me out. It somehow affected my actual performance in CAT where I scored merely 40 marks in VARC which took my sectional percentile below 90.

Take rest and sleep well a day before the exam, not much you’ll be able to change with a day’s preparation. I spent my rest of the day watching Netflix after flunking VARC a day before CAT.

Q: How did you prepare for GD/PI/WAT. Please share your GD/WAT topics & PI questions?

A: Post the release of response sheets by IIM Kozhikode and realizing I was scoring 180+, I started my preparation for GD and PI. The first thing I did was to prepare an exhaustive write-up about myself, starting from academics, work experience, achievements, projects, interests and hobbies, short and long term goals. Current affairs for GD and PI didn’t require much preparation owing to my habit of reading newspapers and magazines religiously.

I attended a few sessions from experts along with two mock GD and PI sessions, of which one was purely focused on my IIM Ahmedabad interview, which was only my second interview in a long list of 14-15 shortlists including IIM A,C,L,S, MDI, SPJIMR, XLRI and IIFT. I also prepared a few core subjects from my engineering and also mathematics, which eventually aided me a lot during my IIM A, C & L interviews.

Q: Your final message and tips for candidates preparing for CAT 2020.

A: I want to share following four tips for the prospective candidates:

Always analyse your mocks thoroughly. It’s not at all tough to land in the top 1 percentile.

Try not to appear for a mock on the penultimate day. Relax and sleep well for the D-Day.

Try not get stressed, during the exam and also in the interviews.

Never globe in the interviews. Professors will have a laugh and you’ll walk out looking like a clown.

Just a week

A week back we came across the most disturbing news of 2020 . The demise of Sushant Singh Rajput due to suicide.

A week back the news channel and social media was filled with mental health concerns and #mentalhealthmatters was trending.

A week back everyone was checking on each other that whether they are in good condition or not ?

A week after the tragic incident everything is returning back to normal. The #mentalhealthmatters isn’t trending anymore on Instagram and Twitter and we have already started behaving like the usual self which we were before the incident because we are done with #mentalhealthmatters because it was just an social media obligation which need to be fulfilled.

We woke from long sleep for a week and we are going to sleep again until and unless any other tragedy like this happens again.
Taking the most urgent wake up call for week isn’t going to make any difference . We need to be persistently awake then only we will be able to make any change in the present scenario of the most depressed country in the world.

A study reported in WHO, conducted for the NCMH (National Care Of Medical Health), states that at least 6.5 per cent of the Indian population suffers from some form of the serious mental disorder, with no discernible rural-urban differences. Though there are effective measures and treatments, there is an extreme shortage of mental health workers like psychologists, psychiatrists, and doctors. As reported latest in 2014, it was as low as ”one in 100,000 people”. The average suicide rate in India is 10.9 for every lakh people and the majority of people who commit suicide are below 44 years of age.
Almost 80% people diagnosed with mental sickness do not seek any kind of treatment and there are 150 million more who need access to therapy and this is projected to increase by 20% by 2020.

These statistics are quite scary but we Indians still haven’t taken the issue of depression seriously. If we aren’t going to take it seriously people suffering will continue to suffer and people bullying will continue to be ignorant.

In today’s world people already feel depressed due to various known and unknown reasons and we as a community add fuel to the fire by constantly judging them and trolling them.

Have we ever thought why we are doing this ?

What pleasure we are getting from making someone life’s more messier?

What we are achieving by forcing someone into suffering?

On one hand we are supporting that people should speak about their mental health more often and people should stop doing back bitching because we really don’t know how it is affecting the other person and on the other hand we are trolling celebrities, judging and blaming people.

What kind of hypocrite behaviour is this ?

We should know that a life exists outside social media which is much precious than that on social media. We should not forget that mental health really matters .

We need to understand that we should behave kindly towards everyone so that even if they are going through something messy they will get some positive energy from your behaviour .

Life is a precious gift by god, and it should not be wasted and disrespected by creating troubles in others life.

Never Fear to Fail .

Treat Failure Like a Scientist

When a scientist runs an experiment, there are all sorts of results that could happen. Some results are positive and some are negative, but all of them are data points. Each result is a piece of data that can ultimately lead to an answer.

And that’s exactly how a scientist treats failure: as another data point.

This is much different than how society often talks about failure. For most of us, failure feels like an indication of who we are as a person.

Failing a test means you’re not smart enough. Failing to get fit means you’re undesirable. Failing in business means you don’t have what it takes. Failing at art means you’re not creative. And so on.

But for the scientist, a negative result is not an indication that they are a bad scientist. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Proving a hypothesis wrong is often just as useful as proving it right because you learned something along the way.

Your failures are simply data points that can help lead you to the right answer.

Failure Is the Cost You Pay to Be Right

None of this is to say that you should seek to make mistakes or that failing is fun. Obviously, you’ll try to do things the right way. And failing on something that is important to you is never fun.

But failure will always be part of your growth for one simple reason…

If you’re focused on building a new habit Or learning a new skill or mastering a craft of any type, then you’re basically experimenting in one way or another. And if you run enough experiments, then sometimes you’re going to get a negative result.

It happens to every scientist and it will happen to you and me as well. To paraphrase Seth Godin: Failure is simply a cost you have to pay on the way to being right.

Treat failure like a scientist. Your failures are not you. Your successes are not you. They are simply data points that help guide the next experiment.

Working When Work Isn’t Easy

Anyone can work hard when they feel motivated.

When I was an athlete, I loved going to practice the week after a big win. Who wouldn’t? Your coach is happy, your teammates are pumped up, and you feel like you can beat anyone. As an entrepreneur, I love working when customers are rolling in and things are going well. Getting results has a way of propelling you forward.

But what about when you’re bored? What about when the work isn’t easy? What about when it feels like nobody is paying attention or you’re not getting the results you want?

It’s the ability to work when work isn’t easy that makes the difference.

It’s Not the Event, It’s the Process

All too often, we think our goals are all about the result. We see success as an event that can be achieved and completed.

But if you look at the people who are consistently achieving their goals, you start to realize that it’s not the events or the results that make them different. It’s their commitment to the process. They fall in love with the daily practice, not the individual event.

What’s funny, of course, is that this focus on the process is what will allow you to enjoy the results anyway…

If you want to be a great writer, then having a best-selling book is wonderful. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of writing.

If you want the world to know about your business, then it would be great to be featured in Forbes magazine. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of marketing.

If you want to be in the best shape of your life, then losing 20 pounds might be necessary. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of eating healthy and exercising consistently.

What matters the most is the consistency and the feeling to keep thriving untill and unless the dreams are achieved .

Mental Grit:Need of the Hour

Being mentally strong is one of the most toughest things, be it in times of an adversity or a calamity which puts your life upside down. Mental strength can be one of the factors behind success in various fields, mental strength is an integral component which is necessary for the survival of the fittest. Many a times in our daily lives thousands of hindrances can appear from nowhere and we require mental strength to overcome them and at the same time maintain a balance in our daily lives. We have thousands of mentors, gurus and psychologists who inspire us with their wise words to be mentally strong.

According to the researchers Graham Jones, Sheldon Hanton, and Declan Connaughton Mental Strength is “Having the natural or developed psychological edge that enables you to: generally, cope better than your opponents with the many demands (competition, training, lifestyle) that sport places on a performer; specifically, be more consistent and better than your opponents in remaining determined, focused, confident, and in control under pressure.”

Many a times for a student to succeed in his/her academic area it does it’s not the IQ which is important rather it’s the mental strength and this has been proven by psychologists, Mental strength can help you win your weak areas/Situations as if one has grit and determination he/she can achieve anything they put their mind on. EQ,SQ and AQ play an important role as well.

One should be able to overcome hurdles without letting it affect their daily life and emotional wellbeing and for this one requires mental strength and a great amount of grit. Mental strength is a component which helps one confront and overcome difficult times.

There are many tips and tricks which one should adopt to increase their mental strength which can really be difficult in tough times.

Overcome Negative Thoughts-

This is not easy for all of us, but this is one of the main hindrances which keeps us lagging behind and to overcome negative thoughts one has to bring in positive ones as negative thoughts can sprout like a seed and can poison the brain like a weed, they can become a hindrance and a barrier in moving further.

  • To be more productive-

Being productive keeps our minds busy and hence away from the unwanted thoughts, it can be anything like reading a book, walking, painting or even dancing. It allows us to come out of the whirlpool of pain and sorrow and also keeps our mind busy as we are engaged in certain activities.

  • Use your mental energy appropriately-

To use you energy in the required processes that is to not waste your mental energy in areas which can break you and mentally drain you. As using your mental energy towards the right path will benefit you and using it in the wrong way will increase stress, burden and will affect your mental health.

  • Positive thinking and core beliefs-

One of the other ways to increase metal strength is by attributing positive thoughts and beliefs towards our future prospects and to evaluate, change and strengthen our core beliefs.eg-if you feel that you will never be able to get the first place in a competition, your chances of losing increase five times as you would lack the will, determination, grit and mental strength to achieve first place. Such weak core beliefs hamper your mental strength instead if you think I will be able to achieve the first position in the competition your chances of winning double as you will work hard with will, grit and determination and you will stay positive.

These are just some of the ways to become head strong and increase your mental strength. Mental strength has become a necessity to overcome the tumultuous times in this twisted life and achieve all our goals in life.

World AND Internet

WORLD BEFORE INTERNET

Have you ever wondered how life was without internet?  Those were the days when connecting to people and places took days, even months and were mostly delayed. Things used to take more time than usual…  Life was so different without internet.  Life appeared to be slow and much subtle. It was long and tedious process that feels like never ending. But after the invention of the internet, the world has never been the same.

After invention of internet life became wait-free, stress-free and much more comfortable.   From receiving letters in a minute to posting pictures, and even live videos and broadcasts- life has become super easy and fun to explore. Internet has given a boom to educational society. Earlier we would have to search and consult hundreds of different books of thousands of pages manually in library for finding something and now all of this can be done in a blink of an eye – just enter your question in Google and get the answer to all the problems on your mind and more which might not have even crossed your mind.

INTERNET: The Technology

The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. This protocol defines the format of all the electronic communication which travels between computers through wired or wireless media. Internet is the fast mode that helps resolve many problems in one click.

Internet has made the world a global village where communicating with people sitting thousands of miles away and seeing places is just a click away. Internet has made the world more explored and lively. From entertainment to infotainment internet has everything that the world needs. From travelling to connecting people in another part of the world has been made easy with the help of internet.  Obviously internet has changes the meaning of life to much extent.

Like other imperative advanced inventions, internet connectivity too has seen much development in recent years.  From slow dial-ups to fast broadband to Wi-Fi and now the recently being much discussed is the Li-Fi service of the internet.

FORMS OF INTERNET CONNECTICITY

Broadband has the highest access speed and is most used service of the internet. It is available in four different forms like DSL (Digital subscriber line), fiber-optic, cable, and satellite based connections. It is believed to be one the cheapest available connectivity methods of the internet.  Broadband is a WAN (wide area network) mostly used in an organization or a city.

On the other hand, a Wi-Fi is mainly a wireless local network. It allows the devices to connect with each other without the cables. It is simply being called as the wireless medium of the internet. Local area network (LAN) has a limit and has a restricted range where it can be used. It can limit the no of user you want to allow to connect to your network and can be password protected.

Don’t love like my generation does.

Do not love like my generation does.
we are a generation of broken people, we take things either too seriously or too casually. We open our hearts, keep ourselves like an open journal in front of someone a journal in which you have been jotting down your secrets for weeks and months and years. Then we love with everything we have, we go all in. Travel for 10 kilometres just to sit on Marine drive and listen to them talking, or we then shut people out, we ghost them and ourselves, we cook our meals and binge watch all day .
I mean I agree we are going through crisis and stuff to be honest are we the only generation who has been going through crisis all at once-unemployment, reception, lock down, civil war, a freakin pandemic-yet our only plan to fight against all these issues which are taking all over the world is just by looking at memes, putting them our insta stories and we show anger, love, hugs and kisses through emoticons.personal meets have turned into video calls and for some not even that.
our generation redefined love stories. We all have heard love stories from the generation our parents belong to. The concept where they would exchange letters with the help of friends, call on landline in the constant fear that their parents my pick it up and they would have to hang up. now we video call and hangout in cafes and snap when we are bored video call when we miss our loved ones.
once in a while we fall in or out of love without our parents ever finding about it. But in my generation it is not true love unless you post a picture of them on Instagram.
Haha such a  wannabe.
we fucked of the concept of love, we solace in moments that don’t last forever. To be fair we fucked up so many things like Polaroids cause we replaced it with the digital cams, phones and DSLRs .we forget so many things and act as if everything is normal. We fucked up letters and replaced them with emails and again acted as it was so normal.
From one night stand to casual dating to open relationships, we have everything on your fingertips. And all of this is okay with us.The problem is we are the generation who has forgotten to love selflessly to stand up for love, to have the backs of our love, to believe in something or someone, to believe in the concept of forever.
We don’t practice what we preach, we read novels like”the fault in our stars”and”walking disaster”and we consume movies like “me before you” and “SPF 18″and we all want a Happy ending no pain no struggle, but we don’t put efforts. We don’t cross mountains not even puddles.
We just want all things to happen quickly. Did we forget to love? We run even before we can even walk. We aren’t shy, we are forward, we approach people we like. When we are done when we get bored we move on to the next person.
We’re leaving behind too many broken hearts. And broken hearts raise broken families perhaps we are the last generation who will love. So don’t love like my generation does.maybe anyone after us they won’t be in love anymore they will all be in love with the concept of love.
ciao for now.

Understanding happiness

Happiness is a mental state of well-being characterized by positive emotions ranging from contentment . Being happy always start on a person’s mood because no one will make us happy unless we choose it and no individual can make us happy unless we decide it.

Happiness is a particular emotion which is highly valued in our present day society. It is the summation of multiple emotions that push to better an individual’s well-being. Even though many claim happiness to be the factor of life that is difficult to measure, we can still measure what is currently part of your happiness equation. Let’s think back at the last day or week, and remember what things or events had a positive influence on your happiness. But the way we define happiness will likely change from day to day as well. Let’s imagine that life has six major components. For most people, the factors would include work and career, personal life ( including loved ones and romantic life) , physical and mental health ,financial stability, interests and hobbies (such as reading, surfing the Internet, music, sports), faith and belief system (religion, science or astrology). When a person has ample satisfaction in all six spheres, he or she achieves happiness. However, when a deficiency occurs in any of these six factors, the person’s spheres are no longer in harmony, and dissatisfaction or unhappiness occurs. Yet sometimes if a person is having problems in one sphere, satisfaction in the other spheres can compensate temporarily for a deficiency in one. For the long range, a state of happiness is dependent on all six spheres working in harmony.

A key for happiness before anything else is to be optimistic because everything should happen mentally first so that you can set your mind to choose happiness all the time even through tough times. For this we need to define our own happiness experience it. There are different kinds of happiness. These include short-term happiness and long-term happiness.

Short-term happiness

Short term happiness is a quick and easy moment of happiness. It’s normally relatively easy to obtain, yet its effect quickly diminishes. It’s what you believe will bring you instant happiness in the shortest amount of time. For example: getting to eat a slice of pizza, having a laugh with friends, buying a new outfit ,watching an exciting game of football etc

Long-term happiness

Long-term happiness is based on concepts that are not created by a single event. It takes planning and a concise string of actions to get you to long term happiness. It is created by feeling happy about your purpose in life, the successes that you’ve had and/or the satisfaction of who you are and what you’ve accomplished. For example, reaching a professional milestone, being married to the love of your life, journey to lose weight etc.

Happiness involves maximizing pleasant emotions and minimizing unpleasant emotions. Hence we should be aware of our own happiness, actively pursue both short-term and long-term happiness and find our perfect balance to lead a truly happy life.

These are some real exam

My SUPERHERO: DAD

“Dad: A son’s first hero, a daughter’s first love.” In America, Father’s Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June for the first time in 1910. It is held on various days in many parts of the world all throughout the year, often in the months of March, May and June. The day is celebrated to appreciate the role played by fathers and father figures. By the way we appreciate daily our father for their hard work or how they protect us from all harmful effects. How he is going to fulfill our all dreams or demand without any question. He is the one in all over world who support you and take stand for you at any circumstances. He never leaves your stand. Always teach you difference about good and bad. Without any profit he is with you and hold your hand throughout life. So all children want to make their father’s proud, and an involved father promotes inner growth and strength. Being disciplined is tough, but I know it is for my good. And so I always try my best to follow what my father tells me to do. Whenever I am in a difficulty my father helps me out with love and affection, make me understand to tackle all issues. He never tells lie and doesn’t like those who tell lies.He loves humanity and serves humanity at his best.My father is very kind, loving ,honest and generous person.
