Importance of Health gadgets in 2021

The health tech revolution continues at its pace, by innovating various health gadgets which are helping to improve and manage our health. From electronic thermometers to medical devices that monitor vital signals to the health gadgets in our hands or in our mobile, we have witnessed a tech revolution in the health sector. Health gadgets have been playing an important role in our life for ages but in the year 2021, it plays a crucial role. Or we can say in this whole pandemic like situation, it turned out as a boon to medical facilities.

As of 2021, 2nd wave of Coronavirus disease strikes in different parts of world-leading once again to face a serious health problem. The health sectors’ priority now is only to save more and people suffering from this pandemic. And all the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other healthcare workers have been hands-on fighting this pandemic. Apart from people, one thing that has become very important, that is needed to save human lives is health gadgets. In this pandemic situation, it is almost impossible for people to run to the hospitals, diagnostic centers for regular check-ups. People themselves are avoiding going to hospitals for check-ups. This may lead to some serious health issues so, health monitoring devices or health gadgets help people to keep an appropriate record of their health without going to hospitals or other related places. To ease everyone’s life technology industry is teaming up more with potential investors in the health sector and launching new products.

In this period of lockdown, people have been more stressed than ever before. More stress lead to serious health issues that should be seriously checked. One of the issues that occur due to stress is Hypertension. Now as people do not want to go to the hospitals for check-ups and it is not safe too to go to hospitals regularly. So people are using a digital health gadget that rightly tells about blood pressure with the help of a digital blood pressure monitor.

Diseases like diabetes in which regular monitoring or check-ups are very important. And the number of patients is gradually increasing. In this case, a blood glucose tracker is very useful than anything. It tells about the glucose level in a person and with the help of this seriousness of the disease can be assayed.

In 2021, health monitoring devices like oximeters, oxygen concentrators, pedometers have been crucially important, so these are the top-selling equipment. Patients are suffering from insufficient oxygen and breathlessness, with the rise of a number of Covid-19 cases in the world. Oximeter has become an aid to patients as it can tell instantly about the concentration of oxygen in a patient’s body. Now they can easily check it themselves in their own home and they do not have to go to hospitals and wait in the long queue to get their oxygen levels checked.  Oxygen concentrators help one to get oxygen in sufficient amounts without the need for an oxygen cylinder instantly. So oxygen concentrators have been of great help.

There are some more health gadgets that are super smart and can track heart rate, how much movement is anyone making, how many hours anyone sleeping soundly, and how much stress anyone is experiencing in a particular movement. Nowadays it has been so easy to keep our health records. And one of the most important advantages of these health gadgets is that they are portable. There are uncountable benefits of health gadgets and people are realizing their importance now more than ever. Now we are also realizing the statement “Health is Wealth”. And it is not wrong if we say that these portable health gadgets are boon to people.

Kadambini Ganguly

We have seen a lot of women who overcome the hindrances made by society to a woman. One of them was Kadambini Ganguly, who broke the norms of society and became India’s first female doctor. She was born on 18 July 1861, when India was struggling for her freedom. At that time people were not much aware of the importance of female education. She was also one of the first graduates (along with Chandramukhi Basu). She also became one of the first female doctors of the country who were certified to practice western medicine.

She was in Bhagalpur, Bihar, in a Brahmo family, in 1861. Her family was originally hailed from Barisal (in present Bangladesh). Her father’s name was Braj Kishore Basu. He was a headmaster by profession and participated in several social movements aimed at women’s empowerment. He established the Bhagalpur Mahila Samiti with Abhay Charan Mallick in 1863.

She completed her education at the Bangla Mahila Vidyalaya, and after that, she wrote the entrance examination for the University of Calcutta. In 1878, she became the first Indian woman to clear the entrance. And because of her efforts, Bethune College introduced first arts and then Graduation courses in 1883.

She married a Bramo reformer, Dwarkanath Ganguly. Her ambition was to go to the clinical school but at that in Calcutta Medical College females were not permitted to enter. She and her husband volunteered to change this standard. And in a result, she became the first woman to attempt to get admission to Calcutta Medical College in 1884. She graduated in 1886 and was awarded the Graduate of Medical College of Bengal and made history as the first practicing woman physician with a degree in modern science in the whole of South Asia. She worked for a short period of time at Lady Dufferin Women’s Hospital (her salary was 200 rupees per month). Then she decided to travel to London in 1892 for further education. The reason to leave was strong opposition from her colleagues and administrative staff who believe that this is a male-dominated stream and could not accept a woman entering the mainstream. Apart from this she also contributed to several movements in India’s freedom struggle. She became the first woman to be on the platform at a session of the Indian National Congress. She organized the Women’s conference in Calcutta (1908) and spiked many movements during the partition of Bengal. She also served as the President of the Transvaal Indian Association and worked for the rights of female coal miners in the eastern parts of India. She did not leave her profession as a doctor and continued to practice until her death in 1923.

The 19th century was a period of misogynistic practices such as Sati, Child marriage, and many more, she was truly a torchbearer in terms of providing women access to educational institutions. She is still an inspiration to many women in India who thinks that she cannot reach her goal because she is married or financially weak or having children. She achieved her goal despite all the hindrances. Women like her have always been an example in the society who created hr space for women in the fields which remain traditionally a man’s sphere even in the present day.

In the book ‘How India Wrought For Freedom’, Annie Besant depicted Kadambini as a “symbol that India’s freedom would uplift India’s womanhood”.

Malik- A Review

Even as 2020 brought the entire world to a standstill, and as it halted the shooting and release of new movies, a young writer and director decided to challenge the pandemic, and planned to shoot a low budget experimental computer screen movie using just an iPhone, titled C U Soon. This young director was Mahesh Narayanan. The movie starred Fahadh Faasil, Roshan Andrews and Darshana Rajendran.

The movie, written, directed and edited by Mahesh Narayanan, and produced by Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya Nazim was India’s first computer screen film, and was a commercial as well as critical success.

And this was one of the movies that brought Mahesh Narayanan to the forefront, even though he has made exceptional movies like Take Off (2017) before this. But these would not end up being the magnum opus of the filmmaker.

His magnum opus would come out almost a year later, titled Malik, also starring Fahadh Faasil, Nimisha Sajayan, Joju George, Vinay Fort, Indrans and more. Even though majority parts of the post-production were completed before the Pandemic hit, it couldn’t be completed in its entirety and had to be shelved for a theatre release post the pandemic. In December 2020, it was decided that the film would have a release date of May 2021 during Eid. But the pandemic played spoil sport again, as the 2nd wave hit the country. Finally, the makers decided the best option would be to release it online, and it went on to become one of the most awaited films in 2021.

Malik tells us the story of 2 communities living in a coastal area in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The film talks about issues like communal riots and the politics behind it, and sand mining by the government to create roads, even though the decision is met with the protests of the local citizens.

The film is a treat to watch, with brilliant acting, story, cinematography and music. Even though one can see similarities between Francis Coppola’s The Godfather (1972) and Mani Ratnam’s Nayakan (1987), the film stands out in its own right. The writer was able to characterize all the characters really well, which meant that all human aspects of all characters, and not just the protagonist was very well defined. Unlike most films, which work on the protagonist, Malik gave an overall importance to all the characters.

The actors did an amazing job of bringing this well written characters to life. While watching this film, the audience is transported to the world of Ramadappally and Suleiman Ali Malik. Especially in a scene where Nimisha Sajayan and Fahadh Faasil are mourning the loss of their son, the actors are able to bring tears in the eyes of the audience, and the audience are able to relate to the emotions going through the minds of the actors.

The music by Sushin Shyam was subtle and brought gravitas to the scenes where it was necessary. The music director has also managed to create music that would last for days in one’s head even after watching the film. The same goes for the cinematography by Sanu John Varghese and the stunt direction by Lee Whittaker, who had earlier worked on movies like Bahubali. The 13 minute single take deserves a special mention of its own.

The use of CGI in the film was minimal, but even then, it was evident that CGI was used in some scenes. But this, minor detail does absolutely nothing to the visual treat that is Malik.

Malik could be considered an epic in terms of Malayalam or rather Indian cinema. It shows how characters should be created in an ensemble movie. The movie has the potential to be studied by film students all over India, and quite possibly it will gain that status soon enough. Overall, after watching the movie, the audience can see why the filmmakers were so keen on releasing it in theatres, and kept OTT as the last straw. This movie is made for theatres, and the theatre experience would have made the film even better than it already is!

Nausea! It could be Cybersickness or Motion sickness

Nausea due to watching fast moving digital images becoming common if you are watching computer generated mayhem in the latest action film or scrolling rapidly on your smartphone, you may start to feel a little off. Maybe it is a dull headache or dizziness or creeping nausea. And no, it is not something you ate.

A peculiar side effect of the 21st century is something called digital motion sickness or cybersickness. Increasingly common, according to medical and media experts, it causes a person to feel woozy, as if on a boat in a churning sea, from viewing moving digital content.

“It’s a fundamental problem that’s been kind of been swept under the carpet in the each industry,” said Cyriel Diels, a cognitive psychologist and human factors researcher at Conventry University’s Centre for Mobility and Transport in England. “ It’s a natural response to an unnatural environment.”

Digital motion sickness, known among medical professionals as usually induced motion sickness, stems from a basic mismatch between sensory inputs, said Steven Rauch, medical director of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Balance and Vestibular Centre and professor of otolaryngology at Harvard Medical school. “Your sense of balance is different than other senses in that it has lots of inputs,” he said “ When those inputs don’t agree, that’s when you feel dizziness and nausea.”

In the traditional motion sickness, the mismatch of occurs because you feel moment in your muscles and joints as well as in the intricate coils of your inner ear, but you do not see it. That is why getting up on the deck of a ship and looking at the horizon helps you feel better. But with digital -motion sickness, it is the opposite. You see movement -like the turns and twists shown in a movie or video e game car chase that you do not feel. The result is the same: You may have sensory conflict that can make you feel queasy. It can happen to anyone, even if you are someone who is not prone to motion sickness in cars, boats or air r planes. Various studies indicate it can affect 50% to 80% of people, depend ting on the fidelity of the digital con tent and how it is presented. Studies show that women are, more susceptible than men, as are a those with a history of migraines or concussion.

How do you treat cybersickness?

The moment you feel the onset of symptoms, you should take a break from whatever screen you’re looking at. Crowson says you need to give your brain the visual cues that you’re not moving, ideally by looking at the horizon (which, depending on where you live, might not be possible). Even if you can’t see the horizon, anything outside or not moving around you will do.

How do you prevent cybersickness?

Since it’s not realistic to stop looking at screens (unfortunately), we have to find a way to manage our time with them. “Structured breaks are really important,” says Crowson, who recommends 50 minutes on and 10 minutes off your screen. “Even if you’re feeling good at the end of the 50 minutes, it’s still good to take that 10 minutes off, especially if it’s been a trigger before.”

Since screens aren’t disappearing from our lives anytime soon, your best bet to avoid cybersickness is to keep up with those breaks even if it’s for a walk, to stretch, or to look outside the window. Chances are you need it.

K SHAPED…

It has been over a year, the world is still battling the devastating coronavirus pandemic. While rich countries more or less have managed to mitigate, to an extent the adverse effects of the pandemic thanks to their higher and faster vaccination coverage, low and middle-income countries are still desperately seeking vaccines to cover their vulnerable population groups.

US economy is slowly showing a positive uptick so is the case with other rich countries and China.US retail sales increased in June as demand for goods remained strong. Israel is considering the option of booster shots to its already largely vaccinated population after few instances of breakthrough infections. while Israel’s actions are truly justified given the severe nature of the virus, it sometimes feels a little unjust when we consider the cases of many low-income countries where healthcare workers are not even administered with a single shot. Vaccines nationalism as a result of the pandemic is not surprising and given the already deep wide divide between rich and poor countries the pandemic has further exacerbated this divide. Also within the poor and middle-income countries, the gap between the rich and poor has drastically increased.

According to Pew Research analysis, the number of poor in India is estimated to have increased by 75 million because of the pandemic recession. Many economists attribute India’s sluggish recovery post to the deadly second wave to dampened demand. While this may be true as the majority of the population in India fall under the low or middle-class category who’s the ability to spend has been severely compromised(affecting demand). But this is one side of the story. Recently Santosh Iyer vice president of sales and marketing, Mercedes Benz India, told that the company is seeing strong demand for its product, and supply-side constraints have made their customers wait longer. He further adds that sales and demand are back to pre-pandemic levels. This indicates that these upper classes especially in economic terms were not affected as Mercedes Benz’s target market usually comprises the upper class who prioritize luxury.

Hence the rich grew richer and the poor given their already vulnerable state further slipped into pathetic poverty.

Caviar Day

There’s a delicacy that is the very definition of elegance in the minds of most people, it’s a mysterious word that brings together a longing for the better things in life, with a strange revulsion once you think too carefully about what it is. There are many things that are referred to by the same name, but only one of them stands as the one true caviar. True Caviar comes from one of a few types of sturgeon, and Caviar Day celebrates this taste of decadence, and the history behind it.

History of Caviar Day

Caviar has a strange history, when you consider the place that it holds in society today. The origins, however, remain the same. Caviar is the roe (or eggs) of the female of a number of species of sturgeon, with beluga being the most popular and well known variety of sturgeon. Long ago caviar was served for free in much the same way peanuts often are today, given away free to foster thirst and encourage people to imbibe even more.
Proper caviar comes in many colors, though it is most often a deep pearlescent black color, and can account for as much as 25% of a sturgeon’s body weight. For those who don’t know, a sturgeon can weigh in at 300lbs+, meaning a single sturgeon can produce up to 75lbs at a time. Caviar was so popular and the supplies so abundant that North America supplied almost all of the 600 tons a year that went to Europe each year.

Once the ban was put on Sturgeon fishing in the 1906 to protect the dwindling number of them in the ocean, the price of caviar started climbing. By the 1960’s, it was of such a price that it practically defined what it meant to have an elegant, expensive meal. The price has only gone up since then.

How to celebrate Caviar Day

Celebrating Caviar Day is delicious and adventurous. While beluga sturgeon may be outside the financial means of many people, that’s not the only kind of caviar there is. Caviar Day celebrates all of them, even the ‘imposters’ like Salmon, trout, carp, lumpfish, and many more. Get out there and explore the culinary delight that is caviar, and if you’re especially fortunate you can enjoy it from the bowl of a mother-of-pearl spoon. There’s no reason we shouldn’t all be able to eat like King’s and billionaires, if only for one day.

Want to be a CYBORG….?

Cyborg can be defined as an organism that has enhanced ability due to the integrated of some artificial components or technology. The concept of a man-machine mixture was widespread in science fiction before World War II. As early as 1843, Edgar Allan Poe described a man with extensive prostheses in the short story “The Man That Was Used Up”. In 1911, Jean de La Hire introduced the Nyctalope, a science fiction hero who was perhaps the first literary cyborg.

Actual cyborgization attempts :
Yuval Noah Harari, a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem said- “ Humans may upgrade themselves to become cyber within the next 200 years merging man and machine to potentially live”. Although many technology companies have announced the plans to fuse machines and humans. The fact is the transformation has already begun. Here are some fascinating example from mankind who are already famous for being part human, part cyborg.

Jens Neumann
He’s the first person to have a completely artificial vision system, Neumann’s electronic eye is connected directly to visual cortex through brain implants enabling him to see lines and shapes. Latest reports say his vision has since then been restored.

Neil Harbisson
The world’s first ‘eye-borg’ to perceive colour as a sound on a musical scale, has an antenna attach it to his skull that converts light waves into sound waves, making it possible for the otherwise colour-blind cyborg artiste to conduct colour concerts, among other things. Also he co-founded the Cyborg foundation to help humans become cyborgs and different cyborg rights.

Oscar Pistorius
Often called ‘The blade runner’ Pistorius created history as the first double amputee to compete against able body runner at international level in 2007. Since ‘the fastest man on no legs’ has competed at World Championships in Athletics 2011, which he won; Summer Olympics 2012 for able-bodied and won a gold medal at the Summer Para Olympics 2012.

Kevin Warwick
A cybernetics professor at University of Reading (UK ), he is one of the world’s foremost aspiring cyborgs, famous for experimenting with implants, including installing a microchip in his arm which allows him to operate select electrical gadgets.

Jesse Sullivan & Claudia Mitchell
Sullivan is equipped with bionic arm, which is connected through nerve-muscle grafting. But that’s not the real achievement. Sullivan can control the limb with his mind and experience warmth, coolness and the pressure of his grip. Claudia, the world’s first woman cyborg after getting outfitted with bionic limb.

Animal cyborgs

The US-based company Backyard Brains released what they refer to as the “world’s first commercially available cyborg” called the RoboRoach. The project started as a senior design project for a University of Michigan biomedical engineering student in 2010, and was launched as an available beta product on 25 February 2011.

The RoboRoach was officially released into production via a TED talk at the TED Global Conference; and via the crowdsourcing website Kickstarter in 2013, the kit allows students to use micro stimulation to momentarily control the movements of a walking cockroach (left and right) using a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone as the controller. Several animal welfare organizations including the RSPCA and PETA have expressed concerns about the ethics and welfare of animals in this project. In the late 2010s, scientists created cyborg jellyfish using a microelectronic prosthetic that propels the animal to swim almost three times faster while using just twice the metabolic energy of their unmodified peers. The prosthetics can be removed without harming the jellyfish.

Review: The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory, an American sitcom was a hit. It has achieved 8.1/10 on IMDb and 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its first episode aired in 2007 and had successfully completed 12 seasons.
The story is based on two physicists who work at the lab in Caltech, Pasadena. Sheldon Cooper who is a theoretical physicist, is one in a generation type of genius. He is a germophobe, introvert ,quirky and wierd person. He is a double PhD and wishes to win a nobel prize one day.
Leonard Hoffstader who is a colleague, bestfriend and roommate of Sheldon, fits in the ‘good guy’ stereotype. He is also a PhD but has emotional issues as his mother didn’t shower love to him in his childhood. He is also wierd but sensible. Until Penny moves in the apartment across the hall and leonard instantly thinks about how their childern will be both goodlooking and intelligent.
Penny moves from Omaha to become an actress and works at the cheesecake factory for a living.
Sheldon and Leonard are also friends with their colleagues Howard Wolowits and Raj Koothrapali.
Howard is an engineer from MIT and lives with his mom. Whereas Raj has moved from India and is an astrophysicist. He is very rich but can’t talk to women unless under the influence of alcohol.
These four friends always do various activities together like play online video games, play dungeons and dragons, visit the comic book store and also go for paintball fight.
Leonard and penny date each other but their relationship has many ups and downs throughout the seasons, until they are happily married.
Penny sets up Howard with her friend Bernadette who is small, beautiful girl with a high pitched voice.
Also, one day Howard and Raj makes an online dating profile of Sheldon to piss him off but instead he meets Amy Farrah Fowler, an introvert, intelligent and wierd neuro scientist who blows off Sheldon’s mind.
Sheldon who always puts labels on everything including the lable maker, does not let anyone sit in his spot, who thinks he’s the only genius person, follows a very particular routine for everything including a particular place they are supposed to eat, and just pisses everyone off with his behavior, which is the starlight of the show.
The show was sometimes shot with live audience and all the scientific things said or written on the show were absolutely correct. The show also got attention because of so many celebrity cameos, including that of Stephan Hawking, Elon Musk, Leonard Nimoy, Will Wheaton, Stan Lee, Bob Newhart and James Earl Jones.
The sitcom shows the ‘Nerd Culture’. Showcasing what introverts go through. Also it has some very powerful positive concepts, where penny and Bernadette earn more than their husbands who are much more educated and still this thing doesn’t bother the male ego. And no matter how much Sheldon get on the nerves of everyone, they know he isn’t hurting them intentionally and so they understand him and love him with all his flaws, just how good friends should do. A good group of friends makes life much more tolerable.
Lastly the Scientific theories, use of technology, games, are very informative. Besides watching the sitcom, its beneficial for our personal growth and knowledge.

MONEY HEIST : A Phenomenal Thrilling Series

Money Heist LACASA DE PAPEL is one of the phenomenon series I have watched with never ending suspense, romance, crime and adventure. I literally binge-watched entire seasons non-stop with snack breaks. The Dali masked and red jumpsuits, had great impacts around the world symbol of “THE RESISTANCE”. Its hard to give an idea how captivating and binge-watch this show is.There are loads of surprising plots and twists to keep you on the edge.

This is a show about a group of robbers who take the near impossible task of robbing ” The Bank Of Spain”. Everything revolves around robbing the bank with ‘THE PERFECT PLAN’ by mastermind being “The Professor” [Alvaro Morte]. What makes this intresting is the depth of the characters with flaws but still you will make an instant emotional connection with them.

There are some good looking and wonderful actors, Alvaro Morte[The Professor], Alba Flores[Nairobi]. My personal favourite is Tokyo[Ursula Corbero], the most volatile character in the show. She seems like she is going to ruin the whole plan at any moment but she has her own ideas to make show more thrilling. She keeps you high and glued to edge of yor seat. She has a great suspense coming in every minurte.

There are two heist set which has push the bar to the heighest and the show is intriguing and more than worthy enough to watch.

SEASON 1: PART 1 AND 2 [2017]

REINVENT YOURSELF: A chance to improve…

“IF YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER NOW, DON’T FORGET THERE IS SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE BEST THAN YOU.”

In life we always have reasons and excuses to hide our mistakes and weakness but, when it comes to our personality and lifestyles we always had new ideas to be best. Reinventing does’nt mean to change your life for society or people but, to change your weakness and to improve your life, habits and living for yourself.

IT’s NEVER LATE TO BE BETTER THAN WHAT YOU ARE…

There are people with a reason that ‘we are happy for what we are, we don’t have to change ourself for others.’ Yes, I admire their thoughts and confidence and I am one of them only. With time i realised it’s wrong to change yourself for others but, there is nothing wrong in improving ourself to be a better personality. There is difference between changing and improving and everyone has to know and realise it sooner or later. You don’t have to be one of ‘them’, you have to better own self and choose your way to be better. Just like a fis moving out of crowd to another pond for own survival and betterment.

AN EMPTY START IS BETTER THAN STICKING TO CROWD…

I am not asking you to leave your society and move alone but, to start a step to improve your bad habits, weakness, persona and life to be better and trust me you will find new ‘You’ and there will people wanting to be like you. If improving yourself is better than changing yourself so do not hesitate to take a step. Explore now and start a day with one thought to improve yourself so that, you can reinvent the hidden better ‘You’.

A STEP FORWARD IS KEY TO YOUR BETTER SELF…

“IT’S NEVER LATE TO BE BETTER”…

THANK YOU :]

The case of magahi betel leaf (paan)

Magahi betel leaf (Paan) is an variety of betel grown in south Bihar region and mostly in Aurangabad, Gaya and Nalanda districts. This paan, is about 3.5 to 9.5 inches in size. It’s non-fibrous, sweeter, tastier and the soft.it got GI tagged in 2018 alongwith Jardalu mango and katarni rice

Magahi paan was popular even during ancient times. It is claimed that prince Vijai Mal was fond of Magahi paan and it is mentioned in the 1884 book of GA Grierson, an Irish administrator and linguist in British India. Several other references had been cited in the journal to establish Magahi paan being an exclusive produce of Magadh region

Magahi paan is sown during March-May each year, with leaves plucked during January-March. Each plant can give 40-60 leaves, yielding 500 dholis per year per katha .Every year, farmers have to sow new plants. When everything goes well, farmers can earn Rs 70,000-1,00,000 from one katha of land.

Problems encountered by betel leaf (paan) farmers

There is lack of insurance or MSP facility to the farmers. it is highly susceptible to bad weather conditions and is classified as  horticulture, not agriculture product. Money is paid in installments by the buyer and  Sometimes money is paid after one and a half years to the farmers.

Number of paan farmers is on the decline because of lack of any state help to ease their high cost of production, as the plant requires an artificial conservatory to grow.

Future ahead

A tie up between Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Bihar Agricultural University (sabaur) is currently under process. Plan is to export GI tagged products Makhana, Jardalu Mango, Shear Rice, Litchi and Magahi Pan.

Let’s hope the things gets better and government policies should be made and implemented in a way keeping the problems faced by farmers and their needs at centre. Then, only these betel growing farmers will get benefitted from those government benefits.
