Every single person has a desire for something but they still live in the fear of feeling this fear leads into somewhere in the darkness and if you are that one person who lives with this fear of feeling the book that may help you overcome the fear and make you a man with positive thoughts.

The Power of subconscious Mind. The book is written by Dr. Joseph Murphy and it was published in 1962. This book is published in a lot of languages but English is the first language.

There are 20 chapters in this book and all these 20 chapters really important topics.

The very first chapter of the book says that there is a “Treasure house inside you” and that treasure house is your subconscious mind and there is infinite intelligence in your subconscious mind. If you are wondering that you can do something and if you are trying to find a solution to certain problems then you have to look inside yourself and you have to look inside your subconscious mind for the solution. Every the question has a solution the power of the subconscious mind solves any problem.

The very good example given in this book is “Autosuggestion”. Human beings are two types magnetize people and demagnetize people. Magnetize people who are in touch with their subconscious mind and they know how to draw it from there and the other hand people who do not have any idea about the subconscious mind and they don’t know that they have so much potential inside them they are the demagnetize people who do not achieve anything. It’s all about if you want to magnetize that is if you want to be aware of the power that resides in the subconscious
mind of yours and that will make you a person who can achieve anything.

Another important point in this book is “Affirmative thinking” that is to affirm yourself that you can do anything and you can achieve any heights. This a very beautiful paragraph in this book and in that
paragraph it’s written that your mind is like a garden whatever you sow you going to reap. So if you are sowing negative thoughts you can get negative results. By on the other hand if you can showing positive thoughts that you going to do great in life. There’s hard work you have to work hard to achieve success. But it’s the hard work is the only thing. Ex) there’s a lot of people working hard but is everyone successful not really. So working hard is only 80% of it 20% is yourself making aware of the power that resides on your subconscious mind so only then you will be able to give your
100%.
There’s also a very important point in this book and it about “ Dreaming whatever you want to achieve”. So if you watch interviews of successful people then you will understand that all of them used to visualize themselves as successful people that they used to daydream. Daydreaming is about when you sit down and think and visualize yourself being successful that is if you want to be a CEO of a company you visualize yourself sitting in that chair of CEO. Only hard work does not work because hard work is only a part of if the other one is being positive thoughts that one day you are going to reach your dream it is affirming yourself.

There are also chapters in this book that speaks about “Healing of physical illness and mental illness”. So if you are dealing with anything you can read this book and understand how you can use the power of subconscious mind to heal yourself from any kind of illness.
Theirs is also a chapters completely to wealth and success.This chapter tells you about the wrong approach that you have to wealth and success and if you actually apply the techniques that are given in this book and may be the chance that you will be able to get overcoming the financial issues. There’s also a chapter in this book that tells you about how scientists use the subconscious mind to transform their ideas into reality and there many examples in this book.

Another chapter there’s about “Sleepen or approach to a sleep”. Usually we are tried and go to sleep and we think that instantly we completely switched it off we switched off our brain and we sleep but that is not really true our conscious mind is basically sleeps but subconscious mind is always awaken. The subconscious mind take care that you are still breathing, your heart is pumping, and your body is functioning properly, the food that you had in your dinner it gets digesting properly or not everything is taken care by our subconscious mind so if you are aware of the subconscious mind and if you are touch with it then all function will be working properly and that is why sleep is very important in that time conscious mind never intrudes and it’s never interface in the functioning of subconscious mind just before you fall sleep is the time when you think about all the positive things.

Another very important chapter in this book is about happiness and how you can achieve it happiness is something you have to decide sincerely from your heart. if you think that you never be happy you can never be happy because, happiness is the state of mind as you already here a lot of times before and that is true. You have to sincerely desire happiness you have to feel to yourself by the affirmative thinking you have to tell yourself self constantly that you will be happy that you choose to be happy and you will be able to sow the seed of positive thinking of happiness it is the subconscious mind and eventually be happy.

Achieving a certain goal will make you happy but, that happiness is going to be temporary because, you will set another goal for yourself and then you will wait for yourself to achieve that goal only then you will be happy. it doesn’t work like that it works in a way that it is constant process happiness is a constant choice we can choose every morning and every night.

You want to read a book only then you will understand in absolute depth. This book will change so much in you. This will change your mind, it will change your life.

Twilight is the first book of a series that brought the vampire-romance genre back from the undead in 2005.

Main characters are Isabella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black.

Edward is a vampire. Bella is a human. The lion shouldn’t be with the lamb, as we have famously read, but despite being a forbidden love, the relationship of Edward and Bella in Twilight illustrates that love isn’t governed by any rules. It is boundless, and cannot be restricted by what other people may think is wrong or right. Edward goes against his natural instincts to be close to Bella, and while their relationship is fraught with complications, the book goes to painstaking lengths to show that Bella’s world is changed for the better when she becomes involved with Edward. He cannot offer her a normal future or a normal relationship but he can make her happy despite the challenges that face them.

The novel starts with Bella who recently shifted to Forks, United States of America. She met Edward Cullen in her new high school, Forks high school. During a trip with her classmates, Bella encounters a family friend, Jacob Black, who informs her that the Cullens are supposedly vampires according to his tribe’s legend.

Holocaust in children’s Literature in the Novel – The Book Thief

In reference to the novel, The Book Thief written by Markus Zusak which is a Young Adult Fiction and Historical Fiction by Genre gives us a clear image of the best classical works found in the literature. Markus has portrayed a beautiful story about a girl named Liesel Meminger, which is also the protagonist of the story. In which “Death” himself is the narrator and portrays us the beautiful relationship of a Foster Father and daughter.

Foster parenting is most fragile and negative but living in an environment where the background shows us the Nazi Germany War and the Autocratic power of Hitler and suppression of the Jews and the incidents of the holocaust, war and Violence may often haunt and be Depressing for the young Readers.

Why holocaust in children’s Literature?

Here the question raises about Markus is why he used Holocaust in children’s Literature?

The reason can be numerous, but the fine line of choosing the holocaust and Hitler was the prominent and best option because of the reason that Adolf Hitler himself targeted young minds to brainwash them by all political conspiracies against the Jewish people. Markus Zusak has explained the story of the book thief(Liesel Meminger) who was 10 years old girl living in Nazi Germany with her foster parents. Markus specifically took Liesel as a girl character to explain the scenario of children living in Nazi Germany.

The book Thief novel presents us the elements of contemporary issues in which a girl develops her emotional, physical, mental, cognitive skills and IQ skills with a presence of an ideal father.

The answer is simple, as the book is enough to tell anyone why it’s been one of the classic books in the field of literature with a perfect balance of Emotional and feel-good genres.

The Book Thief –

The story is about a 10 yr. an old girl named Liesel Meminger, whose life was always a series of miserable life as she lost his brother at the beginning of the story and her own mother abandoned her and was kept under foster care.

Unlike other foster parents, rosa, her foster mother was always a rude mother who was always strict with her, but definitely her life was beautiful and contended because she had a foster father named; Hans Huberman, who always motivated her to read books and learn new vocabulary.

The whole book is set under the regime of Nazi Germany where it is all about children and their lives out there, where Liesel met many people like; Max ( A Jew, who was hidden in the attic), Rudy( His best friend), Illa ( The commander wife, who used to be good companion of Liesel in her reading time).

Liesel’s  life has always been tragic because she was always welcomed by grief, remorse and death. She lost many close people in her life due to death, and that is the reason death as a narrator quotes that: “I’ve touched Liesel many times, but her soul always lets me allow her to live more”. Liesel in the end becomes a successful writer and her journey as a writer explains to us how tragic her whole life was.

Elements of Nazi Germany-

The whole Book portray us the background of which the whole novel was based, as Jewish were beaten, the burring of books, max as a Jewish hiding in the attic, Hans going to war, Young boys enthusiastic and idolising Hitler these are elements in the book portray us the condition of Nazi Germany.

The ending of the book is bit tragic as though she becomes a famous writer , but she lossses everyone in the end of the war. Her foster parents, best friend Rudy all dies and she is left alone. The Book Thief is a perfect blend of War and fragility of a little girl who suffered so much because of a war. This also shows us how death plays a major roles in a way and is always terrible with mortal humans.

A GOD WHO HATES WOMEN

I had chosen to write about Dr. Majid Rafizadeh’s phenomenal novel ‘  A God Who Hates Women’. It is a beautiful yet tragically moving story of a women caught in a patriarchal household. It takes us back to the times when women were seen as commodities sold off in markets. Choice was a word that women could not even imagine. The story highlights the life of the authors mother, how she lived through oppression. This story forms around the background of a civil war. The novels throw light on the cruelties faced by women in a patriarchal society. The story begins with a short background of how the authors grandmother was born. It later shows the birth of the authors mother which turned out to be a disgrace for her own mother, since she expected a baby boy. The story continues with the atrocities faced by his mother at her own home and how she was forcefully married to a man who abused her at all chances he got. The irony of which the book talks about is the cruel side of patriarchy, how women carry it down more than men. 

The name of the book also seems to bring out the story, about how the religion and its god were cruel to women. The people of the religion went to extreme ends to make sure that the rules of the religion are followed, sometimes inhumane practices were also used.

Religion and politics were not treated as two different entities by the people of Syria, Iran and Iraq. They had held religion so much close to their heart, that it was even involved in their politics. Political decisions were made in the name of god. People were abused in inhumane ways in the name of religion. It shows quite a different side of how far our modernity and education has not evolved in countries like these. Citizens of the nations could never really trust one leader to be liberated from his religious entity, each leader had their own approach to religion and people were forced to select someone who was less cruel than the other. The question of a good and humane leader was out of choice. 

The book is set in the backdrop of a series of political tension in Syria and Iran. The author and his family have moved from Syria to Iran a couple of times and the book shows the difference in the culture in both the countries vividly. The book shows how much political leaders are influenced by religion and how they kill people cruelly who goes against them, the authors father was one such victim. Maybe the author might have also got the influence from his father, but in a much better way. The author was the founder of an organization on human rights which reported cases of human cruelty. The authors father has a very interesting character, he on one side focuses on how modern our thinking should be in various aspects of life except in the equal treatment of womenas he had always abused his wife. His character was rather paradoxical. 

But one of the most important things that the book has left out is that it hasn’t brought into consideration the larger issues faced by the people. The author has merely had an interview with the close members of his family and friends. And so, we cannot really say that the book speaks about the whole of Syria. After certain parts of time in the book, it fails to show the feelings of Amira, the authors mother. How she felt about religion, her passion and how she lied to herself to live for her children. The authors life has been glossed over for most parts and it talks in the perspective of the author while the book was about his mother. 

The major concept the book focuses is on the patriarchy and how it has broken down the women of the household. Book spoke about how women were cut off from the world of pleasure and desire, forced into submission. Another novel aspect of the book is that it also talks about men abusing younger boys. Young boys were raped by elderly men in the remote areas of Iran

The book is set in a time when abuse was seen very common. People dominated over the weaker ones and religion was to be respected and those who don’t respect religion were also abused too. It is set in a completely different timeline with reference to religion or equality between men and women. But we cannot completely say that patriarchy has been wiped out from our modern-day world. Across the timelines we had only grown one step closer to lower its impact on the people. 

We might live in a secular world today but that does not mean that each and everyone among us are cosmopolitans in nature. But one thing that has drastically changed is the number of people who believes that women are to be respected and given equal rights as men. They believe that Women must not only be seen as homemakers but also as potential doctors, engineers, civil servants and all the more. This change in perspective had given rise to many feminist movements across the world. There are almost 3 waves of feminism, where each wave concentrated on the various aspects of a women’s lifestyle.  The world we live in as become so much more complicated with the passage of time; one person is not solely now identified with his/her religious aspects but with things they would want to relate too. Identities matter a lot in the world we live in, these identities connect us with similar people so to share the same feelings and aspirations. 

Something that we can always find common in all the stories we hear are the sufferings of women and not men, why was women just seen as fragile and homemakers? The ones that needed to stay at home and look after the children? Weren’t we equal beings with different biological systems? Why wasn’t marital rape unlawful in countries across the world? Why were people so focused on their religious identities? Why didn’t time make a difference in the modernization of the Asian countries? These were a few of the questions which kept disturbing my mind. I hope one day comes where women will be as free as men. A world where we all are equals. 

 

Misogyny vs Feminism in Osborne’s ‘Look Back in Anger’

Look Back in Anger is a realist play written by John Osborne and Published in the year 1956. Set in an economy that has been diminished by the war, it follows the story of a young couple Jimmy and Alison Porter. Being from two different social classes, Jimmy being a working- class man and Alison being an upper-class, the two have trouble navigating through the class conflict present between themselves. The play focuses largely on Jimmy’s anger against the upper-class and particularly the upper-class women.

During the time of the play’s production, The Women’s Movement had already started taking shape in Britain and hence can be read as a reaction against the growing feminist movement of the time. It is evident from the play that Jimmy hates women and has strong misogynistic views. He blames women for his lack of power and impotence even though there is no coherent logic behind that argument. His wife Alison is the main victim of his hatred. Through her, he takes out all his anger against the establishments, the upper-class, Alison’s family and all women in general. His marriage to her was in itself a statement of rebellion against the bourgeoise and he himself states that ‘he took her hostage’. His motive for the marriage was never love and it was simply his need to assert his working-class masculinity over her.

Where Alison is an aristocrat in terms of her class status, Jimmy is an aristocrat in terms of his gender identity and the only way he can get his anger and frustration against the bourgeoise out is by sexually mastering the upper-class women. He exploits his aristocracy as a male to compensate for his lack of status in terms of class, and he translates his class hatred into a sexual hatred. Here, Femininity is associated with the upper class and masculinity to that of the lower class and this act of attributing characteristics of gender to the classes is seen throughout the play. Despite being immensely flawed himself, Jimmy’s standards for women are highly unrealistic and he needs women only for his own selfish reasons. While Alison suffers to make their relationship work, Jimmy simply complains and puts a strain on them. He contradicts himself when he lashes out against Alison for being too silent but at the same time, he complains that she is like a python that is out to devour him whole with reference to her sexual aggression. The only two women that Jimmy seems to respect are Madeline (His ex-lover) and Mrs. Tanner (A working-class woman who helped him set up his sweet shop). He holds her as an ideal working-class woman as opposed to his own and Alison’s mother who are upper-class.

Although the driving force of the story is Jimmy’s anger, both Helena and Alison have made choices of their own to leave him. Even Alison who acts like a passive pushover has had her own choices and decisions in life. It was her choice to rebel against her parents and to marry Jimmy and leave her upper-class status, it was her choice to leave him and it was also her choice to come back to him in the final scene. Even when Jimmy calls her ‘Lady Pusillanimous’, she chooses to be silent so as to not give him the satisfaction of eliciting a reaction from her. Being silent is actually her way of retaliating against his dominance. On the other hand, Helena is one of the characters who is more expressively strong and feministic. She is unfazed by his threats and slaps him which shatters his façade and brings out his vulnerability. •            Even when Alison chose to come back to Jimmy, Helena is unwilling to confirm to his demanding views on what a woman should be and boldly walks out on him because she is determined that she doesn’t want to go through pain and suffering just to be with him.

Look Back in Anger is thus riddled with undaunting and scathing misogyny and sexism. Although Osborne denied any anti-feministic overtones, we see that there’s an erasure of women I the male dominated dynamic in the play.

About the author

Jhumpa Lahiri is an award – winning author and translator. She received the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for Interpreter of Maladies, which also won the New Yorker Prize for Best First Book, the PEN/Hemingway Award and was shortlisted for the Los Angeles Times Award. She was awarded a National Humanities Medal in 2015. Her other works of fiction in English include The Lowland, which was a finalist for the Man Booker Prize in 2013.

Lahiri has also written three books in Italian, including In altre parole ( translated in English as In Other Words) and the novel Dove mi trovo. Her translation of Domenico Starnone’s Trick was a finalist for the National Book Award. She decides her time between Rome and Princeton University, where she is a professor of Creative Writing and Literary Translation.

In 2003,Lahiri published her first novel, The Namesake. The theme and plot of this story was influenced in part by a family story she heard growing up. Her father’s cousin was involved in a train wreck and was only saved when the workers saw a beam of light reflected off of a watch he was wearing.

Analysis of the book

The Namesake is the debut novel by American author Jhumpa Lahiri. It was originally published in The New Yorker and was later expanded to a full-length novel. It explores many of the same emotional and cultural themes as Lahiri’s Pulitzer- winning short story collection Interpreter of Maladies.

The novel between events in Calcutta,Boston, and New York city, and examines the Nina CES in loved with being caught between two conflicting cultures with distinct religious social and ideological differences.

Gogol was named in haste after his father’s favourite author. Growing up in an Indian family in suburban America, he finds himself yearning to cast off his awkward name,and with it the inherited values it represents.

Determined to live a life far removed from that of his parents, Gogol sets off on his own path, only to discover that the search for identity depends on much more than a name.

Summary of the story

The story begins with Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli, a young Bengali couple, who leave Calcutta, India and settles in Central Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. When they gave birth to their first child, they weren’t allowed to leave the hospital without providing a legal name in the medical papers and documents of their child.

But as per their family tradition,the naming of a child was done by the elderly and in their case, they were waiting for a letter from their grandmother who was going to give name to their son. But the letter never arrived and the grandmother died. So as per their tradition, a child must have a pet name which will be called by friends or families. And the other name was the good name which will be used officially.

Thus Ashoke pet named their son Gogol by getting inspired from his favourite Russian author, Nikolai Gogol. But they decided to use Nikhil as his official name. But when Gogol was little, he loved his pet name so the teachers of his school named him Gogol in all the official documents.

But as Gogol was growing, he started hating the name Gogol and was eager to change his name officially. On going college,he changed his name to Nikhil. He hated Bengali culture and loved American life and dated American girls. He met Maxine at a party and they both started a relationship. He was accepted by Maxine’s family but she was not that much accepted in Gogol’s family.

When Ashoke died of heart attack in Ohio, Gogol was totally heartbroken and he broke up with Maxine and started more time with his mother and sister. After that he was married to Moushumi,the daughter of his mother’s friend. But within a year Moushumi was no more interested in their marriage and they got a divorce.

Conclusion

At the end, Ashima decided to go to Calcutta as she feels nothing here anymore without Ashoke, and Sonia(Gogol’s sister) decided to marry her boyfriend Ben. Gogol was all alone and at the end he started reading the Russian novels which his father gave him as birthday gift.

The Human nature

There is no perfect person in the world, but the most holy and supreme person has his shortcomings, but I believe that everyone is born innocent, because of course you can’t make mistakes in your childhood. But I think people are not really good or bad or both.

  • Not all people are good people. No matter how hard you try, everyone has their own shortcomings. I also feel bad about people.
  • The mistakes they make will anger God; therefore human beings are both. People are bad because someone has to do some naughty or bad things in their lives. No one can be so good, because I believe that if you think you are a good person, you should not do anything at all. Lock yourself in the room. people are bad mainly because of temptation. We have all done some non-model things, sometimes without even realizing it.At some point we are all bad people, but most people are not bad, just like everyone goes to jail, so we keep our balance. So we have good and bad. We have holy days and bad days.
  • We are not perfect people. When we start to think for ourselves and know what is happening, we will do this to ourselves. Our environment, except when we were young, they told us what to do, and now we can control our lives. Our daily decisions make us who we are today.
  • Sometimes we can be good, sometimes we can be bad. He mentioned in his sermon that God loves everyone, no matter what. Whether you are good or bad, as long as you are willing to give, God will always find in his heart to forgive your sins.

Can we ever be able to travel with speed of light?

From more than a century humankind is asking about could we ever be able to travel with speed of light, Is travel with speed of light is possible?. As space enthusiasts, could space ships shown in movies star trek and star wars be possible, can we make warp drives?

Let us first discuss about speed of light. It is a cosmic speed limit. Speed of light is fastest speed of which any two poles in space can communicate with each other. It is a speed at which light travels. In one second a beam of light can make 8 rotations. The standard speed of light if we convert to km/hr than speed of light is 1,079,252,848.8 km/hr(1.07 billion km/hr). Or we can say 299,792,458 meter/sec. So again question arises can this speed be achievable. If we can make to travel with speed of light then to reach to our nearest star Proxima Centauri it will take 4.2 earth years. So if we travel 5 times speed of light then to reach proxima centauri it will take nearly 1 year.

He said that in order to make a warp drive it will require a huge amount of negative energy. Negative energy equivalent t mass of Jupiter.

Alcubierre said that if the lift hand side of Einstein’s equation is for curvature of space-time, right hand side is newton’s gravitational constant with T is stress energy factor, then there requires a negative energy in right side to bend fabric of space-time. Alcubierre determined that the ship needed to stay inside a flat space-time bubble, which is such that it can move with any arbitrary speed.

But, Alcubierre’s theory is as real as fiction. As we know that negative energy is not possible and does not exists. Anti matter exists and is different from negative energy. Anti matter is a regular matter with opposite charge but with it has positive mass.

In 2021 paper by physicist Erik Lentz of Gottingen University showed that space time warp bubble solution is possible by positive energies and theoretically move at any arbitrary speed.

Again we have question that is warp drives be possible? The answer is Yes.

In recent papers published by Advanced propulsion laboratory at Applied Physics authors Alexey Bobrick and Gianni Martire showed that how warp drives are possible without negative energy. They showed that we can travel with some fraction of speed of light, but to travel faster than speed of light you would need a superluminal matter. In other words, you would need a matter that travels faster than speed of light. Accelerating anything with mass to speed of light requires an infinite amount of energy. This would be true for any warp engine design, but is impossible.

Gianni and Bobrick showed that there are four types of warp drives, of which Alcubierre showed class 3 type. They showed that Class 1 type of warp drive is physically possible with positive energy and real matter and they don’t travel with speed of light. These classification is based on speed inside the bubble(Vin) and speed outside the bubble(Vout).

These can be achieved by time dilation. Gianni and Bobrick proposed two ways of time dilation, either you go really fast with 90% of speed of light or you put yourself into a strong gravitational field. The stronger the gravitational speed the slower the time passes for passengers. If we make a ship of super dense material, perhaps close to mass of a neutron star then gravitational field will be strong enough for time dilation. They designed a shape, if the ship has diameter of 620 meter with mass of 10% as of sun then time for the passengers inside the ship will be 1/10. The passengers will travel to Proxima Centauri in 9 Earth years but for passengers inside ship will feel as of 10 months.

But to move such a massive ship we need a powerful engine. If we convert its 13% mass to energy than we can get enough energy. The one way is fusion as it converts 1% of mass to energy. The one Bobrick and Gianni proposed that if we take advantage of Gravitational Accretion Energy. This is disklike flow of dust, gas and plasma orbiting around a massive astronomical object. The friction and loss of angular momentum creates huge amount of energy that potentially be harnessed. Accretion disk can convert 10% of any given mass into energy which is highly sufficient.

Now the question is no longer “If” humanity will achieve warp travel, now the question is “When”.

How to win friends and influence people is a great book to read . Dale Carnegie provides timeless, rock solid and practical advice that can be applied in our personal life.

Here are few methods to win friends and influence people that I learnt from this book :

1. Don’t criticise, condemn, or complain.

3. Go out of your way to make people feel important.

Desertion of Lost artists in the Novella – The Artists of Disappearance by Anita Desai

Artists who create the magnificent form of artwork usually portray their inner personality in there all forms of art. They represent who they are, and how their psyche is. The creators of extraordinary art live a life of incompleteness, dullness, and hollowness within themselves.

Their creativity glorifies their inner self and how miserable their life is. All legendary wizards of art contribute incredible work despite having and living a horrible life. Whether it is Shakespeare who lost her 8yr old daughter, or whether it is Franz Kafka who had a fractured/failed relationship with his own father, or whether it is J.K. Rowling who had lived a miserable life striving between her failed career and failed family life while being a single mother, these all examples are basically the real lives of these great writers who imprinted their skills and printed their hands in the history of literature forever.

There are serval times when artists fail living in a complicated society when they are being judged and due to several cultural mishaps, which affect their lives. Likewise, The Novella “Artists of Disappearance” is one among them.

Artists of Disappearance – A Novella about unsuccessful Artists

This is a Novella, which is only one of its kind in its own way because this novel which has 3 novellas within it talks about what happens when the artists fail to satisfy their piece of art?  How can an artist fail in his forte? For a writer/ or an artist the art is the reason why they survive in this uncanny world where there is a bridge between the writer and the injustices held against them, which ultimately oppose a writer to create their art! Readers will experience some kind of queries in their heads if they read these stories written by Anita Desai.

The writer had beautifully written these stories especially for the contemporary readers who are bustling their life and don’t have much time to read. But this Novella is amazing as all the 3 stories are somewhere relatable to readers of all ages.

“The Museum of Final Journey” –

This is the first novella of this book which is narrated by an unnamed Government bureaucrat who wanted to be a writer but unfortunately had to suppress his long writing career due to his father’s dream and expectation of his son to follow his footsteps and become a govt bureaucrat. As the story moves forward, we see that in the later years of the life of the narrator when he was a junior official and was posted into one of the remote areas, he describes his past experience as a flashback to the readers.

His experience was something which brought him in a state of apathy when one day an old man who was the caretaker of the “Mukherjee estates”  came to the office for a favor to rescue the treasures of the states as some people were stealing it and disrespecting those precious things by exporting it to other countries. The Museum, which was now an abandoned museum for the residents living there, still had authentic elements present in it.

As the narrator quotes that: “While others dreamt dreams and lived lives of imagination and adventure, my role was only to take care of the mess left by them.” When the official comes in counter with the museum, he realizes the art and his life, his life is rusty and mundane like the dust-covered on the treasure’s museum, even if he tries to save the estate the art will be auctioned by other greedy people. When the artist dies, the art is never protected rather it becomes a means for greedy people to fulfill their needs.

The narrator finds himself and the Museum similar and ended his story by having this grief that he should have followed his dream, yet he was a failed writer whose life was hollowed and gloomy.

“Translator, Translated”

Another story of a journey of a Failed writer, who is the protagonist of the story, named “Prema”, whose life was miserable and uncertain. She lived a mundane life as an English professor in a girl’s school where her own students mocked her and criticized her due to her appearance and her age. She didn’t have any goal and she always compared and envied her life with others, especially with one of her school acquaintances “Tara” who was now an editor head in a feminist publishing company.

When these 2 characters collide in one of the school programs, Tara allowed her to do a translating job. Initially, Prema’s journey as a translator was like a “Carousel”, but things fall apart when she tried to translate an Oriya book written by Suvarna Devi into English which later on ended her writer career ultimately.

Translating is a form of art that depends on how the translator deals with the language and brings the best piece of all. It becomes a sentimental concern if the translated work is not satisfied by the readers. This is what happened in the end, as her translated book didn’t receive much appreciation and in the end, Prema lost her dream to become an eminent writer and went back to her mundane life of being an English professor.

Her failure proves to us that, as the art fairs, the artists die! As the artist in Prema was dead when the art didn’t flourish. Her ability to write was dead when she drained by her own skills and failed with her own existence as an artist.

“The Artist of Disappearance” –

This is the title story of the novella with a protagonist named “Ravi” who had an unfortunate life who had been adopted at a very young age by a very wealthy couple. Even living in a mansion which was located at the foothills of the Himalayas, he never loved his life as his life was not peaceful like the other kids of his age. He had neglected parents who used to beat him up and used to leave him and traveled to Europe without having any concern for their son.

He was always caged in the house and what he always wanted is “Freedom”. This is what every artist wants to be free from the clutches of society, to think freely and exploring themselves.

In a fire accident when he lost his parents, he became to be with himself away from the social life and created much great artwork in his own house. His artwork was so much amazing that people who were filming near the village wanted to expose his work but he denied it and wanted to live an isolated life with his art.

The last story of Ravi proves that an artist is always attached to his work and never wants to leave it. Whether they fail or flourish, art is the reason which keeps them alive.

Though unnamed official, Prema and Ravi failed, their failures in there art form kept them alive from this undeserving world where they are not accepted for their art and yet these artists choose a life living in uncertainty with a certainty of hope hidden in their hearts and that surely one day they will reach their destination.

A Streetcar Named Desire

A Streetcar Named Desire is a 1947 play by the American playwright Tennessee Williams. It is regarded as one of Williams’ best plays and has received several awards including the Pulitzer Prize. It was also later adapted into a film in the year 1951 starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, and is still considered to be a classic. Through its eleven scenes, the play delivers a raw reality of the middle class in conflict with the fallen bourgeoise of the American South. 

The story is set in motion when Blanche Dubois, a schoolteacher from Mississippi visits her younger sister Stella in New Orleans. Stella has been newly married to Stanley Kowalski, a Polish descent working class man. The Kowalskis live in a tiny apartment located in the shabbier side of New Orleans where jazz music constantly plays right around the corner. Blanche is sophisticated and looks down upon the living condition of Stella. She takes long baths, only wears fancy clothes and jewelleries and still lives a lifestyle that disagrees with her income. She informs her sister that she lost their ancestral plantation called Belle Reve and intends to stay with the Kowalskis for a while. During her stay, she gets close to one of Stanley’s friend Mitch.

Stella, despite having previously led the same luxurious life as Blanche has surprisingly adjusted quite well to her surroundings. She is head-over-heels for her husband and fears the thought of Blanche looking down on him. Stanley is the working-class hero who is unapologetic of his social status. He values his friends and is passionate about Stella. He lives in the practical world which is in stark contrast to the illusionary world of Blanche. He is strong and opinionated and has his way with everything whereas Blanche is soft spoken and is the embodiment of a chaste shy woman.

“I don’t want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, magic! I try to give that to people. I misrepresent things to them. I don’t tell the truth, I tell what ought to be the truth. And it that’s sinful, then let me be damned for it!”

As the play unravels, we see the true colours of the characters. Despite trying her best fit the southern ideals of a naïve young woman, Blanche is revealed to be the exact opposite. She is obsessed with her beauty, is promiscuous with young men and has a severe drinking problem. She has no money left but is too proud to accept that and pretends to be an aristocrat who still expects everyone to be at her command. When she meets Mitch, she tries desperately to hide her promiscuous past from him. She refuses to see him in the day or under a light because she’s afraid that he’ll find her old. Her drinking problem starts soon after the suicide of her previous young husband. Stanley sees right through her and is adamant is calling her out. Through her, he takes out all his pent-up anger against the bourgeoise. He despises Blanche for looking down on him and makes up his mind to bring her to reality. He isn’t swayed by her flirting and succeeds in showing her true colours that she desperately wanted to hide. He even goes as far as to assault her. Despite knowing his true nature, Stella chooses to defend him over her sister.        

A Streetcar Named Desire is thus a raw reminder of the fall of the Southern Aristocracy. Williams reminds his audience that inequality of power never prevails and that those who still cling onto the old ideals are bound to perish with it. He also shows that truth eventually finds its way and that its impossible to live in an imaginary world. The play thus brings us to reality and reminds us of its harshness.

Wuthering Heights: Book Review

About the author

Emily Bronte, sister of Charlotte and Anne Bronte was born on July 30,1818, in Yorkshire, and was the fifth child of Reverend Patrick Bronte and Maria Branwell Bronte. She was particularly close to Anna, with whom she created an imaginary world, the setting for many of her finest dramatic poems.

Emily had an unusual character, extremely unsocial and reserved, with just a few friends outside her family. She was intensely attached to the moorland scenery of her home and passionately loved nature and animals. She was strongly opposed to formal religion and seldom attended church.

Wuthering Heights, published in 1847, was Emily’s first and only published novel. The novel brings out Emily Bronte’s mastery of an extremely complex structure , acute evocation of place and poetic grandeur of vision .

Analysis of the book

In this epic story of love, envy, betrayal, and revenge, Healthcliff and Catherine come together in a romance that destroys them and those around them.

Set in the lonely and bleak Yorkshire Moors, this classic tale of thwarted passion brings when the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange, a Mr. Lockwood, is forced to seek shelter for a night at Wuthering Heights, the house of the landlord, Healthcliff.

As the night passes, Lockwood learns of the tumultuous past of Wuthering Heights and of those connected with it… of how a homeless gypsy boy had been fostered here; of how the owner’s daughter had fallen in love with him, of how their love had ended tragically; and , finally , of how that Gypsy boy- Healthcliff- had taken a terrible revenge that ruined them all.

“If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger.”

Summary of the story

A man named Lockwood rents a manor house named Thrushcross Grange in the isolated moor country of England. Lockwood meets his landlord, Healthcliff who is very wealthy and lives in the ancient manor of Wuthering Heights. The distance between Lockwood’s manor and Healthcliff’s manor is only four miles.

Healthcliff was an orphan who was adopted by Mr Earnshaw and was most favoured by him. Mr Earnshaw’s own son, Hindley immediately plans to seek revenge on him. Healthcliff and Catherine’s relationship got ruined because after an incident Catherine got infatuated with Edgar. Thus, Healthcliff being heartbroken because of the betrayal of Catherine and being abused by Hindley, runs away from Wuthering Heights and stayed away for three years.

“Catherine Earnshaw, may you not rest as long as I am living. You said I killed you–haunt me then. The murdered do haunt their murderers. I believe–I know that ghosts have wandered the earth. Be with me always–take any form–drive me mad. Only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! It is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!”

When Healthcliff returned after three years, he decided to seek revenge from all who have done wrong with him. He lends money to Hindley knowing that it will increase his debts and after Hindley dies, Healthcliff inherits the manor. Healthcliff forces younger Catherine to live at Wuthering Heights and serve as a common servant, while he rents Thrushcross Grange to Lockwood.

Later, Healthcliff becomes more and more obsessed with the memory of his Catherine whom he used to love a lot, and everything reminds him of Catherine. After the death of Healthcliff, Hareton and young Catherine inherits both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange.

Conclusion

Wuthering Heights is a true masterpiece and one of the best gothic novels ever written.

The Dead Road : Reviewed

The final chapter in the Reviver series by the wonderful Seth Patrick lives up to the previous 2 titles “Reviver” and “Lost souls”. It bring this wonderful series to a close with grace. The Reviver series takes place in a world quite similar to ours, the only difference being that there are a few special people that can bring the dead back to life for short periods of time. This ability is used by law enforcement to get a testimony of the deceased and is widely accepted in the world. People with these abelites are known as revivers but they face opposition from a quasi religious organization know as the Afterlifers. The Afterlifers oppose revival as they think of it as disrespectful and unnatural.

Jonah Miller is a reviver with the Forensic Revival Service, its his job to bring the dead back to life long enough to get some answers. He’s one of the best at the job and also has special connection with force that facilitates the Revival. After facing a boat load of troubles in the previous parts and learning a lot of secrets about their society, he finds himself still on the run and confused about his role. He gains a new ability amidst all the commotion, he begins seeing shadows on people. Thinking it to be an after effect of all the trauma endured he brushes it off and continues to stay in the radio silent zone in the state of Virginia with his girlfriend Annabel. Annabel is a journalist who began investigating Michael Andreas after her fathers death. She uncovered secrets that put her into the crosshairs of Andreas.

The book picks up indirectly where it left off, with a warning Tess had warned Jonah that the Beast is coming. Jonah attributes this beast to be connected somehow to the entity masquerading as Michael Andreas. Michael Andreas was a dashing businessman with a shady past and shadier interests. He was one of initial funders and believers of the revival process with his organization know as Baseline. The organisation was a front for Andreas’s experiments getting in contact with an entity that promised peace and power.

Jonah’s new ability proves useful when the trio of Never, Annabel and himself come face to face with the looming threat. What he sees on the people are parasites that are connected to the Beast and are bound to do his bidding. This ability becomes useful when they are attacked by the followers of the beast. Jonah soon discovers that his ability to revive the dead which helps bring humans back can be used to send these parasites back where they belong. These parasites seem to have different levels of power and have an hierarchy. Frightening things begin to happen and a darkness fills the oceans and rivers taking anyone who stands in their path. Jonah decides to revive Kendrick a government agent with ties with Andreas to learn something more. He ends up finding out that he might be the only one who could stop the impending doom.

In conclusion Seth Patrick manages to twist and turn the story even more and makes sure the last leaves an impression in the readers mind. The entire series throws curveballs at you and keeps you on the edge of your seats. The ending seems a bit simple in comparison to the others but is pretty satisfying. The protagonists have to deal with after effects of the fight, they could be the only ones able to help humanity. It was a well rounded book that makes you think about the reality too. This was the final book in the series and would be my final review pertaining to this topic.

This story is about Natasha and Daniel who meet each other in such a way that Daniel believes is destiny and Natasha believes coincidence. Natasha and her family are going to be deported to Jamaica as they are illegal immigrants . Daniel convinces Natasha to give him an our and he will make fall in love with him. This is how both of their lives turn around in just a day

I really loved the book . @nicolayoon has written this book beautifully and I fell in love with characters . I especially liked the part that the author told the backstory of each character . This book really made me believe in destiny as well as reality both at the same time . This one of the book that I would want to read again . This love story is the best love novel I have read so far

I would recommend this book to all the readers  you won’t regret picking this book for a read . I am definitely adding this my favourite book of all times.
