A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE

“A Stitch in Time Saves Nine” is a phrase and has a lot of wise meanings inside it when understood. This phrase reflects the hole in a cloth and tries to make the people understand that, a small hole in a cloth keeps on getting bigger if it is not fixed on time. It means that timely effort will help in preventing more work in future and also tries to teach – Prevention is Better than Cure. Hence, if a problem exists then one must fix it immediately. If not fixed in time. then even small problem can lead to a bigger problem.

Importance of “A Stitch in Time Saves Nine”

  • This phrase tells about the “Importance of Time“. Time is the most important part of life and according to many successful individuals, time is money. Time is precious because time is limited. There are 24 hours in a day and its constant and the human life of a particular person is also fixed, which shows that we can’t afford to waste time at all. And this is what the phrase describes.
  • Another concept that the phrase describes is “Effort in Time“. This is possible by dealing with problems in proper time. While dealing with a problem, there’s a need to contribute proper amount of effort in the right time and when the problem is not solved and delayed, then it will make the problem more hard to solve and more time will be consumed. So, following “Stitch in Time Saves Nine” saves effort and time.
  • Another advantage of the phrase is “Better Decision Making“. Following this concept ensures that a person has sufficient time to handle the problem and this is the most wise decision. This shows that within problem time interval, the person will solve the problem efficiently. And when the person delays the problem the time available for solving problem will be reduced . This will cause shortage of time. This will make the person more stressful and nervous. This would lead to poor decision.

This proverb is a learning for everyone. It is an important advice for everyone. It doesn’t target any specific person or age group or people rather a lesson for all, for everyone from different phases of life and walks of life. It advices the individual to carry out the responsibilities and immediately solve problem, how ever small and simple it may be.

FOR EXAMPLE: To students, it advices to get their doubts cleared from the beginning itself otherwise they will keep getting bigger and will need more time, affect the performance. Small doubts when not cleared will lead to bigger doubts and finally affect the scores. This advice is also important for officials and professionals and suggests them not to neglect the problems and postpone them. It is important to solve every problem with keen interest and sense of responsibility. Have you noticed, how with time the problems keep getting bigger and get things complicated ? This is what the proverb tries to teach everyone and warn us.

Action at right time and required moment saves a lot of time and effort in the future. Delayed actions, adds to the problems and aggravates them. Thus, we should tackle them before it gets difficult. This saying has a very valuable and rational meaning and has a lot to learn from.

The Ponzi Scheme

What is it?

The Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud and one of the most infamous white-collar crimes in history. It is named after Charles Ponzi, the historical scamster who was best known for his financial crimes in the early 1900’s. He was from Italy, but it was after he moved to America that he started his fraudulent activities. The scheme he developed involved conning investors into giving him millions of dollars, and then paying them returns with other investor’s money. Investors were promised that in consideration of their investment, they would receive large returns of up to 50% in 45 days, or up to 100% in 90 days. Instead of paying these investors out of the actual profit of his business, Ponzi paid these investors by further borrowing from new investors. The investors were inclined to accept these deals as it was investment with seemingly high returns and little to no risk. In this way, Ponzi created a chain of borrowing and repaying from various investors, in the process pocketing some of the money from each transaction for himself.

The Ponzi scheme seems to be the prefect con, with the scammer earning large amounts of money, and the unsuspecting investors also satisfied with their exponential returns. This 100-year-old scheme is so well planned that is made use of even by today’s white-collar criminals. The prime example is Bernie Madoff, who in 2008 was caught operating the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Not all the Ponzi scheme cases are big enough to make the headlines, as some white-collar offenders run this scheme to a small extent. However, it can be said without a doubt that this scheme is one of the most standard, but also effective white-collar crimes a criminal can commit. However, investors are now becoming increasingly aware of these schemes, and there are also several anti-fraud agencies monitoring investment activities. Some of the basic parameter’s investors must identify to avoid falling into a Ponzi scheme are;

  • High returns with little or no risk
  • Overly consistent returns
  • Unregistered investments
  • Unlicensed sellers
  • Issues with paperwork
  • Secretive, complex strategies

The presences of all these features means that there is almost certainly a Ponzi scheme being run. It is evident from these features that it is investors dream to have such characteristics in a business, which is the primary reason why it is so tempting for many investors to fall prey to this scheme. However, over the years, corporate investors have come to realise that if it seems too good to be true, it often is.

Bernie Madoff Case

Many people are of the view that white-collar crimes are more serious than normal crimes committed on a day-to-day basis. Normal crimes are high-risk, low-reward situations such as shoplifting or robberies, wherein the perpetrator is taking a large risk in order to secure a relatively small reward. White collar crimes, on the other hand, are low-risk, high-reward situations. Such perpetrators commit crimes which generally go unnoticed for long periods of time, until some thorough investigation takes place or some questions are raised. In this time, they can earn exponential amounts of money as a result of their offences. We can take the example of Bernie Madoff here, one of the best-known white-collar offenders of all time. He committed the largest financial fraud in the history of the US, which involved around $65 Billion. Madoff had been committing corporate fraud and it was going unnoticed, with his career continuing on for about 20 years even after he committed such serious offences. This is evidence to the nature of white-collar crimes as being low-risk, high-reward crimes. It was only in 2008 that he was apprehended by federal authorities, and pleaded guilty to 11 federal crimes. He also admitted to operating the largest private Ponzi scheme in history. Hence, he was sentences to 150 years in prison in 2009 (the maximum for a person his age), for spending 20 years of his career defrauding clients and committing other federal felonies (including securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, theft from employee benefit plan, and many more). In February of 2020, Madoff’s lawyer pleaded for compassionate release of Madoff from prison, citing health and wellness issues (kidney failure and deteriorating health). However, this bid for release failed and Madoff continues to serve his prison time.

Madoff did not sound remorseful when interviewed in the years after his crimes, but he does show some self-awareness. “It wasn’t like I was being blackmailed into doing something, or that I was afraid of getting caught doing it,” he continues. “I, sort of, you know, rationalized that what I was doing was OK, that it wasn’t going to hurt anybody.” This is a prime example of neutralization of crimes by a perpetrator.

Traits of an epic

An Epic is a long narrative in verse on a great and serious subject related in an elevated style. An epic tells a generally well-known story and is centered around a heroine or semi-divine figure whose actions depend on the faith or a tribe, a nation are a human race.

types of epics

Historically, there have been two types of epics the primitive a big for the epic of growth, and epic of art all literary epic.

The main traits of an epic are the following:

  1. The subject matter of an epic is heroine ok or mythical kind full stop the hero is a figure of national or even cosmic importance as an Achilles in Homer’s Iliad, Aeneas in Virgil’s Aenid, Adam or Christ in Milton Paradise Lost and Rama in Ramayana.
  2. The setting of an epic is vast and comprises several worlds. In Odyssey, the whole known word is the scene of action of Ulysses. In Virgil’s Aeneid and Dante’s Divine comedy, Earth, heaven, and hell are the scenes of action. In paradise lost also the scene of action has cosmic dimensions embracing Earth, heaven, and hell.
  3. The action in an epic involves superhuman deeds such as the deeds of Achilles or the journey of Ulysses. Paradise Lost presents The War and heaven, Satan’s journey through chaos, and his audacious attempts to outwit God by corrupting mankind. The Ramayana presents several wars and the prolonged wanderings of the hero.
  4. The action of an epic is often controlled by supernatural agents. Gods and Goddesses mingle with the humans and fight on both sides. In Homer, the Olympian gods participate in all activities and Paradise Lost devils, Angels, and God himself are involved.
  5. The Epic contains several thrilling episodes like battles, duals, wanderings, ordeals, and the like.
  6. In most Epics, there is a moral purpose. The hero represents a cause and the victory of good over evil is ensured. Sometimes characters themselves are personifications of good or evil.
  7. In the narration of an epic, certain conventions are followed. It is narrated in an ornate, ceremonial, and grand style that is deliberately distanced from ordinary speech. Epic similes, figures of speech, classical allusions and references, and repetitions are used. The characters are given set speeches. The narration usually begins with an invocation to the muse or a guiding Spirit. Both ‘Aenid’ and Paradise Lost begin with such invocations. Usually, the narrative starts in the middle of the story as in Paradise Lost which begins with the fallen angels gathering their Forces for revenge. Only later does Milton tell tells us what happened before the Fall.
  8. The Epic is usually divided into twelve books through Iliad and Odyssey have 24 books each. Spencer’s fairy Queen was planned in 12 book’s and Milton’s Paradise Lost also has 12 books.

Water and No Water: Wastage, Shortage and mismanagement.

Mumbai is facing a shortage of water with a third of its residents not having drinking water as per a recent report. This comes in heels with the news of massive water-logging across the city and flood-like situations. This is reminiscent of the Chennai Water Crisis in 2019 when a flood had hit the city in 2018 and in May 2019, the city declared a zero-water day – no water left in any of its reservoirs. As per statistics, in the coastal city with a medium size river flowing right through it (the famed Anna University is actually partially built on lands claimed from the river), 60% of its population relies on bottled water for drinking all year long. Was this always the case? History suggests no. But it has been so for about a decade now. This is not very shocking given that Mawsynram, the place with the highest recorded average rainfall on the planet also faces water shortage during summers!!!

Maharashtra received 17 per cent excess rainfall since June: IMD | India News,The Indian Express
A lot of rain, and yet no water to drink

Yemen – the poorest of Arab nations and a region marred by civil war and international interference for more than a decade now might also have the root of its civil war as water shortage. Let us understand that the Yemeni factions are the Houthis, the republicans – with both basically supporting their tribal interests – and a swinging group of Saudi-led forces. Records suggest that there existed blood feud between villages just because a village constructed a well very close to that of the other village. As per data, Yemen has the least water availability per capita on the planet, even inviting statements like – if water were to get exhausted on Earth, this process would begin in Yemen. This is odd, given the fact that Dubai is a sprawling metropolis situated in the same Saudi desert.

War and pieces: Political divides in southern Yemen – European Council on Foreign Relations
Yemen is the most water depreciated nation on the planet.

The situation is actually grim in many more places – Northern India – a land abundant with rivers and lakes – most of them, technically all of them polluted beyond potability. Go to Africa and the nations with rainforests and rivers are dry.

What is the cause then? We often hear of climate change. A reader would agree about the reality of climate change but would certainly not let go of the sheer amount of mismanagement involved in the handling of water resources. Governments all over the world have tried in their own way to clean water bodies – the money ending up in their coffers owing to balant corruption. In India, for instance, the Save Ganges Movement or ‘Ganga bachao abhiyaan’ in the vernacular has been a project spanning over three decades and costing lakhs of crores – the best part – to no result. NGOs and villagers have often revived water bodies across the planet showing the importance of public participation in government or local initiatives. But, the people aren’t really very concerned about this issue it seems. It might find itself in discussions during summers or in newspapers – but people refuse to consider it as a problem as grim as climate change. No one can imagine the change Chennai saw with themselves.

Simple tactics for your homely gadgets to boost up

WAYS BY WHICH YOU CAN MAKE YOUR PC RELIABLE AND MULTI-FUNCTIONING ESPECIALLY YOUR LATEST VERSION OF WINDOWS 10

Laptops and computers are the favorable gadgets for remote places to work, entertain, play games and much more. Note a point that nearly 9 out of 10 people in every society and neighborhood own their piece of this tech all over the world. It helps you in many ways of business, entertainment, virtual meeting and much more utilities.

It can be a boon or bane depending on the purposes it is used and in this hectic world without a computer it is not an easy task to spend even a single minute as the life cycle has started running on this online and technology platform already. This may suit any professional or beginner working at home with your school or office projects.

As your every schedule is online from school till extra-curricular activities like dance, drawing etc. Imagine a situation in this pandemic without a PC on your own. You will have to hang out on mobiles but not all the work can be done simultaneously at once like a PC anyway. As it may lead to mental depression and frustration of delay in your task assigned that has to be completed beforehand.

Situations are similar like I’ve described above as at those occasions you have to wander for help to complete your work with someone else’s property.

It has become a necessity that as the system of life and roles of every position/job changes you have to cope up and adopt these items even if you are reluctant about it.

So, after working for long hours like humans, computers also slow down its speed of processing things. Generally in advance we encounter them often for our simultaneous tasks done at the same time. Hence there are some simple ways where you can make them active or energize them to regain their performance speed and generate outputs fer your inputs.

Let me list down some basic ways that help you out in opting/selecting a appropriate way to enhance your CPU or processor it its utmost fastness

  1. Keep a track on upgrades for your PC for software or drivers

You might notice that your version of any feature/tool inside our gadget gets outdated often, so downloading recent releases of it helps it to run faster thus avoiding the arena of entering troubleshoots. Especially for Windows 10 you need to update versions here and there so it won’t disable automatically.

Just get the Start button on your left corner then choose the settings option available in the menu where you get a main page so there you can find Update & Security choice under that you can look out for your esteemed Windows updates where it automatically checks whether your PC needs to be updated or not.

If you are up to date leave it or install the categories you require by selecting them.

  1. Use only the required ones and restart often

It is important that you refresh before you start working on it as it randomly speeds up by refreshing. Work only on the plugins that you need instead of starting every API in your computer that will make your system get hung or struck off. If you feel like your PC is not up to that efficient earlier restart several times until it gets back to the previous speed it was earlier.

Don’t let more files run in your background as it affects the functionality of the RAM and processor speed eventually. Still, you don’t find your issue solved, enter Troubleshoot settings under the type troubleshoot where the program diagnoses your troubles and receives your opinion to sort it out.

  1. Optimize and enhance your space on disk

Hence if you don’t get resolved under the above criteria try to view the empty space on your computers, if is low free some spaces by uninstalling some contents that haven’t been used for years. Also optimize and clean your CPU or in-built CPU with some apps that totally stops its working. These temporary files are the prompt trouble makers so literally remove them totally by deleting or disabling them.

So, these are my own simple steps to make your personal PC or laptops run faster and flexible up to your requirement. These will really help you out as I have tried them multiple times under my supervision that give better results/ came out perfect.

If you know any way to customize so to reduce the load on your PC’s definitely you can. All these ways can also be used under the latest, advanced version (Windows 10) as it gave me a fruitful result again and again obviously.

Tiger conservation: Strides and hurdles

On International Tiger Day( July 29), Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed that the government is committed to ensuring safe habitats for tigers and nurturing tiger- friendly ecosystems in India, home to over 70% of the world’s tiger population.

The last tiger census (2018) pegged the big cat’s population at 2967, marking an increase of about 30% compared to the 2014 report ( 2226). In 2010, India had 1706 tigers, while in 2006 it was 1411. India’s tiger conservation journey started in 1973 with Project Tiger with nine reserves; today, it has 50 tiger reserves in 18 states.

The steady growth in the number of tigers and reserves happened because of state support; vigilance and conservation efforts by the forest department, especially its frontline staff; and the involvement of local communities that help secure forests and participate in ecotourism activities in many of the popular and revenue – generating tiger reserves.

While increased protection has encouraged tigers to breed, it has also led to migration from the safety of reserves. Once they leave the park, big cats encounter a different world.

The Management Effectiveness Evaluation of Tiger Reserves 2018 report shows that at least half of the 50 tiger reserves are facing threats from linear infrastructure ( roads, highways, and railway lines), fragmented forest corridors, poaching, pressure of human – wildlife conflict, mining, improper garbage disposal, and pollution.

About 20% of the reserves have unsustainable pressure from pilgrims visiting temples inside them.

India has made progress, but must remain acutely conscious of the need for the need for the tiger conservation.

Building a learning culture for Remote employees?

Learning is an important part in the growth of any organization, and building a culture that encourages and empowers this is essential.

Through adaptive learning an organisation can build a learning culture for remote employees. They can be given a set of problems to solve online and make observations on qualitative and quantitative financial parameters such as rating, growth and financial stress.

With the flexibility to take the test multiple times, employees are motivated to acquire relevant skills. Instructors can review, curate, and assign multiple projects for employees to solve and enhance skills.

This solution is approved by the Ministry of Education under NEAT program and was implemented with learners at Indian School of Business.

Moreover, when employees are rewarded for enhancing their skills – with better roles or pay – there is always incentive for these remote workers to keep signing up for more workshops, courses and adaptive learning.

The Epic

Introduction:

Impersonal poetry can be divided into two groups dash the narrative and The dramatic.

Epic:

In the first group, The Epic on the heroic poem is the most important. an epic is a long narrative in verse on a great and serious subject related in an elevated style. And nothing else is generally a well-known story and is centered around the heroic or semi-divine figure whose action depends on the fate of a tribe in addition to the human race. The action in an epic is serious and there is a good deal of physical and spiritual conflict. the characters and events or boat ride in detail, elaborate descriptions of places and actions are given, figures of speech are used and usually, an elevator and ornated style are adopted. Aristotle the epic second only to tragedy. It was the norm of great poetry in sixteenth and seventeenth-century England. Dryden wrote, “A hero poem, truly such, is undoubtedly the greatest work which the soul of man is capable to perform.

Two types of epics:

Historically, there have been two types of epics:

  • The primitive epic or The epic of growth
  • The epic of art or the literary epic.

The epic of growth:

The epic of growth is not entirely the work of a single author but is evolved from pre-existing legends, folk poems, and sagas. It is the final product of a long series of accretions and synthesis shaped by the conscious intervention of some great poet. Well-known examples of this type of EPIC are Iliad and Odyssey, the English Beowulf, and the Indian epics The Ramayana and The Mahabharata. All epics of growth deal with the same subject matter – the deed of heroes. These heroes belong to the race and their exploits form the core of mythology. As such the epics of growth contain supernatural and religious elements. The style of such an epic is marked by directness and simplicity. Stylistic devices may be repeater why they are never obscure.

The epic of art:

The epic of art or the literary epic is the product of individual genius. Of this kind, the earliest was Virgil’s ‘Aenid’. It became a model for the later epic poets. In English, the supreme example of a literary epic is Milton’s Paradise Lost. Arnold’s “Sohrab and Rustom” the fragmentary epic “Hyperion” by Keats and Spencer’s “Fairy Queen” also belong to this category stop a literary epic is the result of the poet’s erudition and scholarly research through it shares several of its characteristics with the epic of growth. Most traits of the traditional epic are found in the literary epic also.

Conclusion:

The Epic is an important literary form in English literature. In the earlier period, In the English language mostly authors wrote about Historical novels and Epic novels. They described the huge events, God’s and their stories and incidents. Even now Epic is mostly used to write about mythologies and God deeds and it is popular among the readers. Nowadays, authors are writing many fictional epics also.

Some Myths about Solar Energy

The sun is the source of the solar power which converts into other form of power for utilization .Today’s Solar Energy is the most popular & most needed renewable energy .But with its popularity here comes some myths which create misbelieve among people & prevent the consumption of solar energy in great dimension .There are some of the myths about solar energy are discussed below .

1. Manufacturing Energy of Solar Panels are Greater than Produced Energy by Solar Panels :                                                                                                                                              It is a baseless conception about solar panels .National Renewable Energy Laboratory proved with their experiments that all types of solar panels pay back energy positively within 4 years .Retaliation Period for Mono- crystalline panels ,Poly-crystalline panels & Thin film panels are 2 years , 1-1.5 years & 1 year respectively .

2. Daily Maintenance is Necessary for Solar Panels :                                                                Solar panels loss only 5-10% efficiency without it’s cleaning maintenance .So it is not a necessary requirement .Only off grid solar panels need some maintenances in battery but not in majority .

3. Solar Panels will Wreck the Roof of House:                                                                              The Roof-attached Solar panels are not attached to the roof directly .Solar panels are sited on a rack which is actually attached to the rooftop .So solar panels can’t harm a roof of the house.

4. Solar Power Systems are Costly :                                                                                                  It is one of the popular misbelieve  about solar energy .It was true at the innovation time of solar panels around 1970 but in recent days solar panels are not expensive compared to other technological innovation . For recent advanced technology ,solar system becomes reachable in cost .

solar system are not coastly

5. Solar Panels are Invalid in Cloudy Days :                                                                                            It is the biggest wrong information about solar panels .People think that as solar panels use solar light & heat to generate current so rainy days are  not suitable for absence of light & heat .In fact solar panels can generate current in cloudy days but in less amount than the sunny days for efficiency reduction . Minimum 10-25% of usual current can be produced in rainy days by panels .

6. Solar System Keeps Working Even at the Time of Power-cut :                                                     It is a misconception to think that solar systems are able to work if power goes out .For Grid-connected system ,it will be invalid to work & for Hybrid system ,they only able to work in daytime .Only when the solar battery storage are coupled with solar system ,it can work during outage

power cut

 7. Warm Weather is Better for Solar Power Production :                                                       It is a conventional misapprehension among people that warm climate helps to generate much power .The actual fact is solar panel use sun light to produce power rather than heat .On the contrary ,high temperature  reduced efficiency of solar system .

 8. Solar Panels Don’t Work on Cold Climate :                                                            With advanced technology ,solar panels can induce energy in every types of climate even in snowy or cold days .In fact cold weather helps to increase efficiency of solar system .

  9. Solar Panels , Which finished Their Life-time, are Environmentally Greave :                                            It is a fallacy that time span finished solar panels is harmful for environment . The life time limitation for a solar panels are usually 25 years .The parts of solar systems can be recycled again for reuse after its lifetime .So in no way the parts of the solar system damage the nature .

solar panels are recyclable

 10. Electric Bill will be Cheaper by the Installation of Solar System :

It is not actually true statement . The electric bill in fact depends on the way of using produced energy . Electric bill can be cheap by using produced excess energy or using electric appliances (which needed much electric) in less electricity using time (evening or night time).

There are more myths about solar energy other than these 10 —                                                               ~Heavy current loaded appliances are unable to run in Solar Energy .                                                   ~Solar panels are easily damageable by wind , birds .                                                                     ~Installation of solar panel are complicated .

These are the usual myths .But one have to remember that these are all myths .These statements doesn’t hold the complete truth about solar energy .So we should search about the complete truth before believing these conceptions about solar power .

MOB LYNCHING:

Mob lynching is a term used to describe the acts of violence targeted by a large group of people. Lynching, a form of violence in which a mob, under the pretext of administering justice , executes a presumed offender, often after inflicting torture.

Lynch law refers to self-constituted court that imposes sentence on a person without correct order of law. Mob lynching is basically a large group of people attacking on a fewer people.

STATS:

Reports indicate that, between 1882 and 1951 in United States, 4,730 persons were lynched, of whom 1,293 were white and 3,437 were black. Lynching was a part of US during the 1950s and ’60s, when civil workers and advocates were threatened and some were even killed by mobs.

CAUSES:

While there are so many reasons associated with it the main reason of it being

  • Lack of being about the consequences.
  • Lack of action taken by police and judicial system makes the mob take the right on their hand and us it accoring to their will.
  • Many mob lynching incidents occur because of cow vigilantism.
  • Indirect support from government is another reason why still lynching exists.

HOW TO OVERCOME?

As of 2017, several people started protesting against mob lynching’s. Many movements started which also included “Not in my name” movement. Other movement named MASUKA (Manav Suraksha Kanoon) also started in 2017 to show protest against mob lynching. Later on 2018, Indian government appointed two committees to draft law on Mob lynching’s.

But, all these aren’t enough to overcome the mob lynching happening around the world. As individuals one should come forward and rise their voice against the injustice happening to their fellow brotherman.

SECTION 304:

If a mob killed some person, it will not be called a murder. It literally means if a single person kills someone, he’ll be liable for murder, but if the same crime is committed by a mob, the people be convicted under Section 304.

Section 304 – Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. If an individual commits culpable homicide not amounting to murder, then he shall be punished with 1 or imprisonment which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable to fine.

Humanity is tested every time an unruly mob kills an innocent person. Whatever the reason is, crime is a crime and it is in the hands of each and every individual to differentiate what’s right and what’s wrong and act accordingly.

International Tiger day

International Tiger day is celebrated every year on July 29,to raise awareness among people for tiger conservation. It was created in 2010,at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit.

Tiger are the largest member of cat family and one of the endangered species.Tiger population have fallen around 95% in last decade, their surviving rate in only 40%.

Amur is the largest tiger species in the world. They are also known as Siberian Manchurian,Ussurian,or Northeast- china. The male Amur can grow up to 3.3 m and weight upto 660 pounds. However, females can only grow upto 2.6 m and weight upto 330 pounds. Moreover , they are pale orange in colour and have brown stripes. They white chest and bellies.

India is the home for largest tigers in World with an estimated population of around 2500 to 3750 tigers .The most numerous tiger ,Bengal found in India.

Tiger reservation is the need of an hour .Its important to aware people about tiger reservation, before they become exist.
