STAFFING

Staffing may be defined as the managerial function of employing and developing human resources for carrying out the various managerial and non-managerial activities in an organization. The function is concerned with attracting, acquiring and activating the human resources for achieving organizational goals and staffing also involves upgrading the quality and usefulness of members of the organization with a view to getting higher performance from them and in other words the policy of selecting ‘right man for the right job’ should be adopted. The staffing function includes such activities as manpower or human resource planning, recruitment, selection, placement, training and development, remuneration, performance appraisal, promotion, transfers, and so on. Staffing is a continuous function of managers and this is because the organization’s need to retain and maintain its personnel is a need ending process and managers have to keep a regular watch on the size and composition of personnel needed by the organization. As said by Weihrich and Koontz “The managerial function of staffing involves the filling and keeping filled, positions in the organizational structure”.

NATURE OF STAFFING

Staffing is related to people not with goods and it is a human factor related to people and staffing is also influenced by the social, economical, political, and educational environment of the country. Speaking, staffing is a function of far-reaching consequences and the reason is that managers are not shown as an asset in the balance-sheet of the organization whatsoever money we may have to spend on their selection, education, training and development and hence, we may conclude that staffing is a function of a for reaching consequences. According to Theo Haimann “Staffing is also a liability of the management like its other functions which is to be done by a manager continuously”. Recruitment, selection, training, and development of employees is a continuous process and with the increase in the size of the organization, continuity in staffing also increases. Staffing is influenced by the internal and external environment of the organization and the internal environment includes policies regarding promotion, retirement, etc., while the external environment includes the social, economic, political, and educational environment of the country and speaking both internal and external effect the staffing function.

In management selection, training, development, and evaluation of manpower are interlinked and hence convert staffing into a system and it is treated as a sub-system of management system because it is linked with organizational structure. Staffing is done not only to fulfill the present vacancies but also to fulfill the future vacancies and here we have to forecast the number and type of vacancies in near future and the level of the educated and trained people required for fulfilling these vacancies and arrange for the fulfillment, education, and training for these vacancies in advance. Staffing is not a phase of organizing but a separate managerial function and staffing is the responsibility of the managers. Staffing helps in determining and securing qualified and capable personnel for various jobs and it places round pegs in round holes and square pegs in square holes and it aims at economical and better employee performance.

\’Betaal\’ review: These undead shouldn’t have come to life

Living dead: Betaal could have been a worthy contribution to Indian horror.

Instead of soaring, the Netflix\’s steady start crashes and burns, just like its zombies
For any film or television venture into the paranormal to resonate widely, there requires a certain suspension of belief. This rings true in the case of Betaal, Netflix’s latest four-part horror show. Created by Patrick Graham, who also made Ghoul, the series attempts to reinvent the zombie genre with an army of British Redcoats who return from the dead to victimise a village of tribals. Simultaneously, the unfortunate villagers are also slandered as naxals by corrupt industrialists hungry to further their own nefarious agendas.
The premise is original with enough heft to carry forward its zombie central theme, especially in its treatment of adapting the story of Vikram Aur Betaalinto a contemporary setting. Graham’s zombies are part vampires with the powers of hypnosis and a chilling blood thirst that ticks off all the right horror boxes. As promised, the directors, Graham with Nikhil Mahajan slowly build the fear factor introducing the ‘Betaal’ curse that could wipe out humanity. The show’s characters are well fleshed-out, from Vikram Sirohi (Vineet Kumar Singh) battling his own past and moral compass to Panya (Manjiri Pupala), a fiercely brave tribal woman intent on saving humanity.
For the first three episodes, Betaalcomes along nicely, even if it doesn’t reinvent the horror wheel. As the climax approaches, the show loses its somewhat firm tether to the plot. The term kid gloves, doesn’t come close to the imbecilic explanations provided. Whatever benefit of doubt has been doled out is shattered. A particular scene involving the repair of an ancient cannon (in mere minutes with magically procured tools) is jaw dropping. Not in the good way. Other realisations come into focus: zombies awake after centuries with fetid faces and rank hair have pristine red coats and boots. At some point, they drag themselves as if in a stupor. Other times, they’re faster than quicksilver. A child (Syna Anand) – the object of boss zombie, Colonel Lynedoch’s (Richard Dillane) sacrificial desires – continues to gnaw on nerves with her inability to contribute to saving her own life.
As far as performances go, the actors have played their parts with what has been offered to them: perfectly adequate. With above par production value, Betaal at least looks and feels the part of a grim zombie escapade. But its shaky narrative, which violently falls apart, wrecks what could have been a worthy contribution to the oft-wronged genre. It’s unfortunate because the show is not only backed by Shah Rukh Khan but horror behemoth Blumhouse Productions too. To put it succinctly, Betaal tried to deliver the chills but spectacularly froze instead.

GULABO SITABO: Not the “Pehle Aap” Lucknow

The two puppets are being played on the stage, as sisters, named, Gulabo, and Sitabo. They seem to fight a lot. Hence here’s the movie “Gulabo Sitabo”. Amitabh Bacchan as Mirza, who was deeply in love with the mansion, for which he married a woman 19 years older than him, named Fatima Begum. This is the love story of a landlord and his mansion whose lovestory gets introduced by a villain as the tenant named Bankey Rastogi, owner of a flour mill. He made his work place, his place to romance with his girlfriend, whom he wanted to marry, but as the women’s legacy continues, no money, no honey.
Beside having issues in love stories, Bankey has several other issues in his life, like Mirza, to be sure. Mirza steals his 100watt bulb and sells those in the nearby Bhangar Shop at a very low price, this clearly shows, Mirza had no idea of the market and the price.
One day, Bankey gets a hard nature’s call and amidst the pressure he pressurises the old wall of the loo, and eventually it rolls down. And the case goes to police station, and a new character gets introduced, Gyanesh Shukla, the ASI expert, also a dealer for the ex-MLA of Lucknow, as his boss was the brother in law of the MLA. This all chaos resembles the confusion and entanglement in Mirza’s love story.
Gyanesh and Bankey gets teamed up to posses the mansion, which creates a sense of insecurity in Mirza, and he teams up with a lawyer who tries to empty the mansion from the tenants. And than this chaotic love story of an Old Man and his Wife’s mansion continues with the tenants as major villains. This whole story can be streamed on Amazon Prime, anywhere, anytime.
There are many scenes which will make you think about the character Mirza, beside the acting of Sir Amitabh Bacchan, who is outstanding in doing justice to the character, and there’s other great actors too, like Ayushmaan Khurrana, Vijay Raaz. All actors were brilliant in direction of Director Shoojit Sircar. The story of materialistic love is very beautifully shown and the story gets a mixed rating everywhere. IMDb rates it 6+ out of 10. Whereas on other platforms it has the same mid range rating.
The Lucknow’s polite ‘Pehle Aap’ is shattered in this movie, the conversation of Bankey and Mirza shows the bitter relationship of a landlord and tenant. The story also shows, that Mirza has his own world created within the mansion, and he didn’t have much idea about the outer world and its rapid changing rates. Bankey who lived with 3 sisters and his mother in a 1 room house, shows though he owned a flour mill and everyone expected him to be rich, but his untimely failed romance led him to a filty lifestyle. The story has many other symbolic and memorable events with a touch of comic. Lastly, this is a perfect movie to watch with your family, and if you have a landlord or tenant, than you can invite them too for occupying the seat beside you. 😉

How Depression Impacts the Immune system!!!

Major depression is a common and sometimes fatal disorder that has been identified by the World Health Organisation as a leading cause of disability worldwide. While antidepressants are undoubtedly effective treatments in about 70% of cases, a substantial proportion of patients remain partially or totally unresponsive to treatment. There is no simple explanation for treatment resistance but there is a possibility that the current antidepressants do not effectively target all of the pathological processes that are responsible for the major symptoms of depression. Thus there is an urgent need to broaden the targets upon which antidepressants are considered to act.

The concept of a disordered immune system playing a major role in the mental state can be traced back to antiquity. However, it is only in the past 30 years or so that clinical and experimental evidence has been obtained clearly demonstrating that aspects of both cellular and humoral immunity were dysfunctional in major depression. In the past 20 years, attention has been directed to the role of the immunomodulators and immunotransmitters, in particular the pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Thus, Maes and coworkers reported that interleukin-6 (IL-6), a major proinflammatory cytokine, was increased in the blood of depressed patients.

It was also apparent that about 45% of patients being therapeutically treated with the proinflammatory cytokine interferon-alpha (IFN) developed major symptoms of depression that terminate when the cytokines was withdrawn. Recently a meta-analysis of 9 cytokines in major depression in which 24 studies were assessed concluded that only the basal levels of IL-6 and TNF were significantly raised. Such clinical observations suggest that proinflammatory cytokines contribute to the major symptoms of depression and now forms the basis of the inflammation, cytokine or inflammatory response hypothesis of depression.

When considering cause and effect, there are three possibilities that may explain the tie between depression and immune system:-

  1. Depression may weaken the immune system and cause increased susceptibility to illness.
  2. Major or long term illnesses may cause mood disorders such as depression.
  3. In some cases, illnesses or conditions may be caused by the same triggers as depression.

New research published has taken an exciting new approach, offering hope for those who currently don’t have effective treatments. It’s part of a growing evidence base that shows our immune system can directly affect our mood – and for some may even be a cause of their depression, rather than a consequence of it. Essentially, we are learning that our immune system can alter the workings of the brain. With around one-third of depressed patients showing consistently high levels of inflammation.

It comes down to the inflammation that is part of the immune’s system response to danger. It is a hugely complicated process that helps our body fight off hostile forces. But if the inflammation gets out of hand then it can cause damage to our body and brain.

Treating Depression and improving Health:-

  1. Get in a Routine:- If you are depressed, you are really in need to get in a routine. A routine will help to stay busy and keeping away the negative thoughts.
  2. Set goals:- When you’re depressed, you may feel like you can’t accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself.
  3. Exercise:- It temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people with depression.
  4. Eat Healthy:- There is no magic diet that fixes depression. It’s a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better.
  5. Get Enough Sleep:- Depression can make it hard to get enough shut-eye and too little sleep can make depression worse.

These are the five things one need to give priority to, during depression. Other things a person could do to feel good is engaging in fun activities. They would do really good to the person who is depressed. Next thing we could do is to consult a psychologist.

The Best Ways to Become Motivated Again

Every day we are faced with opportunities. Opportunities to change old habits, old fears, old mindsets that are harmful. Within the span of day , we’ve the prospect to awaken refreshed and begin anew. And sometimes, this suggests breaking down your actions step-by-step so as to rework yourself into who you would like to be.

For me, this entailed the concept of fighting my lack of motivation. Although most of the people believe motivation is that the opposite of procrastination, the 2 are in slightly different categories; procrastination is that the action of adjourning something until the top of its deadline, while motivation is that the reason behind one’s actions.

Like many of us within the world, I personally struggle with lack of motivation. After taking a while to look within myself, I even have discovered the essential ways to kick my mind back to gear. I not only found the way to stop procrastinating, but to also have a positive outlook so that the reasons for my actions would be encouraging and progressive.

  1. Morning Actions Are Key
When I used to wake up in the morning, I went into autopilot mode. I quickly learned that my version of autopilot only included the actions I wanted to try to to , not what I needed to try to to . But the core of my issue was that I never really knew what I needed to do.

To make every day count as something productive, I make small choices that make an outsized impact.

Instead of hitting the snooze button first thing in the morning, I wake up at the initial chime of my alarm clock.

Instead of scrolling through social media on my phone or answering emails, I make my bed or cook breakfast.

When I have a way of accomplishment at the beginning of my day, even with small actions, I start momentum for accomplishing tasks for the remainder of the day.

  1. Do Anything to Keep Moving
Sometimes, my mind turns simple daily tasks into large, insurmountable projects. It can feel crippling just to think about what I have to do next. I would often lay in bed within the morning, stare at the ceiling, and just ponder all that I had to try to to for the day. It became incredibly overwhelming, and more often than not, I would not complete most of my tasks.

To regain motivation during this way, I break down my day into smaller pieces. When I focus on one task at a time and set a reasonable time limit for myself to accomplish each task, I’m not worried about the future or regretting past actions. I allow myself to stay in the present.

Of course, I realize i’ll have some off days where everything looks like a struggle. If this is the case, I tell myself to just do something small. Just get out of bed and put your feet on the floor. Just check the first three emails in your inbox.
Once I became victorious with the actions that seemed insignificant, I felt much more empowered to take on important tasks.

  1. Believe in Yourself
It’s easy to get in the cycle of self-doubt. I will be the primary to mention that i’m my worst critic. However, I will never have a reason to do something if I don’t truly believe that I can succeed. Confidence are often attained even through the foremost minor actions.

Look within the mirror and tell yourself, I can do it!
Stand or sit up straight.
Get dressed up for the occasion.
When I took these small steps to spice up my confidence, I renewed my inner strength. I knew i used to be perfectly capable of handling anything to return my way.

  1. Create a Positive Environment
Achieving my goals came a lot easier to me when I surrounded myself with the right people. Sure, i’m capable of proving naysayers wrong, but the trend of regaining my motivation only came once I placed myself during a positive environment. I consistently had people lifting me up rather than tearing me down, which made me feel unstoppable.

Environment goes beyond a network of individuals , though. I also give myself a pleasing atmosphere to figure in. My desk is neat, my papers are organized, and that i have a routine I follow within my workspace in order that I don’t become mentally cluttered.

I also add comforts like my favorite color around my work area, pictures of friends and family on my desk, and posters or knick knacks that make me smile

  1. Remember Your Short and Long-Term Reasons
Why are you starting this project? Are you contributing to your overall career? Are you working toward a selected degree or credential?

Whenever I’m feeling stuck about what i want to try to to , I remind myself of what I’m getting to gain from the experience. Most importantly, I don’t allow myself to settle for losses.

However, if I’m in the process of working toward a goal and I feel unsatisfied or I believe my goal needs to be adapted, I’ll grant myself the ability to change along the way. This takes discernment of when to be creative and flexible, but really, it’s all about knowing what you are and are not willing to compromise.

  1. Pause and Recharge
There’s nothing wrong with taking breaks, especially if the action is overwhelming. If you’ve got been taking the means , remember to hamper every now then .
As a person’s being, it’s essential for you to require time for yourself within the sort of self-care. Personally, I’ve noticed that once I take a minimum of an hour every day for myself, I become even more prepared to require on whatever tasks are before me. The goal here is to not be so burned out that you don’t even try again – it’s only that much harder to bounce back.

SELF CONTROL

Self-control is the ability to regulate and Change responses in order to avoid undesirable behaviors, increase desirable ones, and achieve your aim. Self-control can be important for health and well-being of mind stability.1 Common goals such as losing weight, exercising regularly, eating healthy, giving up bad habits, and saving money are just a few goal that people believe require self-control for being a good person in life.

“Once who control himself can win the world” – Vivekananda. our all great great scholars, Sant, even ruler accepted this great power and determination, patience and performance so they advise and acted, that’s why they got or called the greats of their time.

What Is Self-Control?

People often use a variety of terms for self-control, including discipline, determination, willpower, and fortitude, adequate to live life etc.

  • The ability to control behaviors in order to avoid temptations/ anger and to achieve goals
  • The ability to delay gratification and resist unwanted behaviors or urge
  • Stop your mind to being divert from any useless things.

Importance

Whether your goal is to lose weight, earn a college degree, or quit smoking, it is easy to believe that achieving a goal is simply a matter of controlling your behaviors. The majority of people surveyed believe that self-control can be both learned and strengthened. Researchers have also identified a number of different factors and strategies that can help people improve their self-control.

Who have better self-control tend to be healthier and happier.

In one experiment, students who exhibited greater self-discipline had better grades, higher test scores, and were more likely to be admitted to a competitive academic program. The study also found that when it came to academic success, self-control was a more important factor than IQ scores.4

The benefits of self-control are not limited to academic performance. One long-term health study found that people who were rated as having high levels of self-control during childhood continued to have high levels of physical and mental health in adulthood.

Delaying Gratification

Delaying gratification involves putting off short-term desires in favor of long-term rewards. Researchers have found that the ability to delay gratification is important not only for attaining goals but also plays an important part in well-being and overall success in life.

Health Benefits

Self-control is also important for maintaining healthy behaviors. What you eat for breakfast, how often you work out, and whether you go to the doctor regularly are all decisions that are impacted by your levels of self-control and have the potential to affect your health.

Researchers have found that self-control can have a number of potential influences on health and well-being:

  • In one study, children who had higher levels of self-control were less likely to become overweight during adolescence.
  • Another study found that participants who had depleted their willpower on an unrelated task were more likely to give in to temptation when later presented with a treat.
  • Studies have also shown that kids who struggle with self-control during childhood are also more likely to use drugs and alcohol in high school.

The belief that self-control alone can help us reach our goals can lead to people to blame themselves when they are unable to resist temptation. It may also lead to feelings of learned helplessness where people feel that they cannot do anything to change a situation.

Tips for Improving Self-Control

Avoid Temptation

Whether it’s the desire to eat, drink, spend, or indulge in some other undesired behavior, one way to avoid temptation is to find a healthy distraction. Go for a walk, call a friend, throw in a load of laundry, or do whatever it takes to get your mind off the thing that is tempting you at the moment.

Plan Ahead

For example, if you know you have a hard time controlling those late afternoon snack attacks, eat a well-balanced lunch packed with plenty of fiber, protein, and whole grains that will keep you full longer.

Practice Using Self-Control

While your control might become depleted in the short-term, regularly engaging in behaviors that require you to exert self-control will improve your willpower over time. Think of self-control as a muscle. While hard work may exhaust the muscle in the short-term, the muscle will grow stronger over time as you continue to work it.

Focus on One Goal at a Time

Setting a lot of goals at once (such as making a list of New Year’s resolutions) is usually an ineffective approach. Depleting your willpower in one area can reduce self-control in other areas. It is best to choose one specific goal and focus your energy on it. Once you turn the behaviors needed to reach a goal into habits, you will not need to devote as much effort toward maintaining them. You can then use your resources to achieve other goals.

Meditate

Meditation is a great way to strengthen your self-control muscle. This technique can also help you learn to slow your thoughts, which can help you control any gut impulses getting in the way of your self control.

Remind Yourself of the Consequences

Reminding yourself of these consequences can help you stay motivated as you work to control your self-control. Remind your goal time to time.

A Word From Verywell

Self-control is an important skill that allows us to regulate behavior in order to achieve our long-term goals. Research has shown that self-control is not only important for goal attainment. While self-control is a limited resource, research also suggests that there are things that you can do to improve and strengthen your willpower over time.

MEDIA IS MISLEADING MASSES?

The function of mass media is to aware or inform masses about the happenings in the world. The television, internet and newspapers are the most predominant forms of media today. Television has a massive impact on our generation. Many sections have become vulnerable to what they see and what they are told as they stay glued to TV or laptop for hours. People try to imitate their role models and their activities; they see it as a social norm or a style statement. Media affects all aspects of youth’s life, from how they should look and what they should wear and own.

Media sensationalises things to grab the attention of masses. It can portray someone or something in such a way that the masses either favour or go against the person/ thing mentioned. Journalists are humans, and so biases can cover the news at a personal or basic level, for instance, a public figure’s reputation can sometimes be misleading as a result of bias. Modern mass media also serves the interests of political leaders and corporate to a considerable extent, thereby influencing public opinion as ‘What you see is what you believe”. Media attempts to provide unbiased information, and ethically they must not present their views on a subject but present the issue as it is. So, if politicians manipulate an event or activity and get coverage, deceptive news will reach the audience. Not everything that we take on face value is correct.

We are consumers of information and all the glossy glamour that we are subjected to mislead us. What starts as a curious exploration ends us becoming a destructive habit. Youth becomes fashion-conscious, and eating habits are adversely affected. There are misleading advertisements which give false claims; from beauty products that promise whitening skin to deodorants that attract women, all have an impact on a significant section of viewers. For the youth, it has become a trend to chase the unattainable perfect image that the media shows us.

Many are trapped in the world of daily soaps which add no value but show ways to conspire against people. We don’t even know it, but it plays with our thinking manner and capacity. When we are engrossed in such programs for long periods, we start to think the way TV characters believe. Movies too are influential, people who see fast cars drifting; bikers doing stunts, actors jumping from buildings follow it blindly and get into accidents.

Social media too misleads often as only certain information or news on it is authenticated by authorities, else is just false rumours. People become victims of such unreliability. Pop-ups, advertisements develop a habit of excessive spending too because we are misled into buying things that we think will benefit us because a social networking friend has validated it. Job ads, insurance premiums can be misleading; we are exposed to so much information that we don’t know what to trust and many a time we choose the wrong track.

Studies reveal that the media has a significant impact on children with obstinate and ignorant behaviour. It affects psychology and communication methods. They consume more of flashy information than educational and develop an insensible view of the world. An exaggerated warning of the harmful effects of an object will be taken seriously by a parent who will take it away from a child. Media has also become entirely commercial; it is seen that fear-mongering and sensational news sell more than balanced news. It has been witnessed that adolescents are acting as adults from a much younger age. They are expected to be more knowledgeable on adult’s topic. Being exposed to adult content forms a viewpoint in them at an undesirable age, and we expect unrealistic things too from them.

Media does not intend to mislead us, but many do get mislead. It is up to us to either take the things as they come or realise that not everything is good for us.

How to Sleep better at night..!

3 Ways to Improve Your Sleep

Most people aren’t getting enough sleep, plain and simple. But—and this is the important thing to realize—we don’t recognize that we are sleep deprived. In my article on the science of sleep and in my comprehensive sleep guide, I covered this problem, discussed how sleep works, and shared a variety of practical ways to improve the quality of your sleep. If you’re looking for a primer on how to sleep better, check out those two resources.

However, if you want to improve your sleep, there are actually some very simple and practical ways to go about it. I call these strategies the 3 Levers of Sleep.

Here’s how the 3 Levers of Sleep work…

The 3 Levers of Sleep

If you want to improve the quality of your sleep and boost your performance there are 3 levers you can “pull” to give yourself a boost.

  1. Intensity
  2. Timing
  3. Duration

Intensity refers to how well you sleep. As I described in detail , there are different phases of sleep. Two of these phases are particularly important: Slow-wave sleep (also known as deep sleep) and REM sleep. The percentage of sleeping time you spend in these two phases largely determines the quality of your sleep each night.

Timing refers to when you go to sleep. What time do you go to bed? This factor is important for two reasons. First, if you get in bed around the same time each night, it is easier for your body to develop good sleep habits. Second, the time you go to sleep should be in accordance with your circadian rhythm.

Duration refers to how long you sleep. This one is simple: how much time do you spend sleeping each night? 6 hours? 8 hours? It can be easy to convince yourself that duration isn’t very important, but it is critical to your growth, performance, and recovery. Professional athletes often sleep over 10 hours per night. If you’re taxing your body and mind, then duration is crucial for you as well.

How to Sleep Better

How can you use these 3 levers to improve your sleep?

When it comes to intensity, the truth is that there isn’t much you can do. Your body largely manages the intensity of your sleep cycle  for you. It adjusts automatically based on what you need and how much time you are spending asleep. Exercising consistently and getting proper nutrition will help, but these actions only indirectly improve sleep intensity.

This is actually good news because it simplifies things for you. Because your body manages the quality of your sleep on its own, you only need to focus on two factors: timing (when you go to bed) and duration (how long you’re in bed).

If we make another assumption, then we can simplify the situation even further. That assumption is this: You wake up at approximately the same time each day.

If you wake up at about the same time each day, then your sleep duration is basically determined by when you go to bed. Generally speaking, if you get into bed earlier, then you’ll end up sleeping more. Improve the timing and you’ll improve the duration as well.

And that brings us to this practical punchline…

Master Your Power Down Routine

If you’re focused on how to sleep better, timing is perhaps the most important of the 3 levers of sleep. The intensity of your sleep is managed automatically by your body. The duration of your sleep is largely dependent on when you get into bed (assuming you wake up around the same time each morning). And that means getting to bed at an earlier, more consistent time is critical for improving the quality and duration of your sleep.

Sleeping period not only determines how much you take rest but also the amount of energy and work you will be able to produce the next day. If you are taking proper recommended time sleep which is around 7-8 hours and maintain this cycle continuously for a extended period of time you will surely be able to notice a drastic change in your lifestyle and how much productive you have been since you are following the cycle.

To maintain the cycle I have mentioned the best ways as per my knowledge accounted from different researches and from my personal experience though I know not everyone’s body reacts the same but I would definitely recommend it as my routine has improved significantly. Talking about the other aspects of maintaining your sleep would be that it would be beneficial for you in a longer run , your metabolism and the way your body needs to cope up with the ageing factor requires you to start healthy as it is well said that “ Rome was not built in a day” . The earlier you start working on your body the longer it will pay you in many ways , you will notice that you stand out from others , for an instance you can see that from  defence personnel who have retired but still not tired as they are trained for maintaining their health in the least resources available as they know if they do not sleep at night it would not matter as they still have to wake at 4am the next morning .

To conclude I would like to say starting from things that require the minimum effort from side and gradually going towards the harder things is the process you should follow .

Kota Factory

TVF is a start-up studio- start-up being the qualifying word. They are a group of nerds- almost all with a career of academic excellence venturing into entertainment business. They did not come with a lot of money, so they could not make movies or traditional TV serials. But they had passion of acting, they had creativity and they had stories to tell. They have created many single videos or short series. They did not have money to distribute them to theaters or to buy slots on TV channels. So they chose creative platforms, they released their content on online platforms like YouTube and mobile app- way before these media became cool or the best way out when the global pandemic due to the Chinese Corona Virus- COVID has hit the world leading to prolonged closure of theaters.

And all their passion, all their effort, all their sacrifice of leaving their lucrative cash cow careers did not go in vain at all. TVF has produced number of gems. Their work has gained recognition and they are getting partners and sponsors to produce content as well. One such gem that they produced was “Kota Factory” which was produced by one indigenous online learning platform “Unacademy”.

The series was premiered on YouTube and TVF Play app simultaneously on 16th April 2019. This was also first black and white web-series in India. The series follows a young IIT aspirant from a small town of Madhya Pradesh (Itarsi) arriving to Kota in mid-year of 11th. Kota has become a premier destination of IIT aspirants in the real world as well in last 2-3 decades. Jitendra Kumar is a pivotal character on the show- “Jeetu Bhaiya” an Physics teacher at the institute. The show was primarily comedy but it touched all the right cords and touched many hearts. In a country obsessed with engineering, almost all students have gone through a similar life of lifelessness, struggle and endless pressure to perform. So, it should not at all surprise anyone that the show got 9.1 rating on the IMDB.

The plot is very simple and all student would connect with it. Vaibhav took admission in his town Itarsi. He started coaching there itself. He thought he was but 4-5 months later he realizes or rather his parents realize that his preparation is not sufficiently sound. Way out? Head to the Mecca of IIT entrance- Kota. Even admission to the top Kota institute was not so easy. Despite having a recommendation by the minister, the preferred institute denies admission in middle of the year. Vaibhav has to settle for his second choice. Already a sinking feeling… the series captures the emotion beautifully. Imagine a test which is 2 years way, but you are losing every second. Every student has this feeling when they settle for a different book, a different teacher. They question their each decision.

IIT entrance has become a high pressure game. Young hearts and minds suffer so much. Away from family and friends grinding 24×7 to win a mirage! And the coaching institutes contribute their share to build this pressure further. To them each student is like a product. They add on features/chapters/concepts like factories do on assembly line. Kota has truly become a heartless factory of producing IITians. A well-presented world from TVF.

Muchas Gracias!

Deforestation : Causes and Impact

Forests provide more than a home for a diverse collection of living things. They are also an important resource for many around the world and are home to 80% of terrestrial biodiversity, containing a wide array of trees, plants, animals and microbes. Over the last century, the forest cover around the globe has been significantly compromised.  This removal of forest or trees from a land and converting it for non -forest use is called deforestation. Deforestation is the destruction of natural forests due to cutting tress and making space for cattle grazing, mining, extraction of oil and natural gas, building dams, bridges and population expansion.

Often, deforestation occurs when forested area is cut and cleared to make way for agriculture or grazing. The other causes for deforestation include:

1.Construction of roads through the forests leads to a division of habitation of animals , birds and other species . It poses a barrier for free movement of wildlife and also encourages uncontrolled activity of timber production along with providing easy access to logging.

2.Natural fires in tropical forests tend to be rare but intense . Human-lit fires are commonly used to clear the land for agricultural use. First, valuable timber is harvested, then the remaining vegetation is burned to make way for crops like soy or cattle grazing. According to recent reports, more than 80,000 fires burned in the Amazon, an increase of almost 80% from 2018.

3.Timber production is another prime cause of deforestation. It is not only used as an important construction material but also forms an important source of raw material for paper production.

4.Many forests are cleared to make way for palm oil plantations (a commonly produced vegetable oil). It’s cheap, versatile and can be added to both food and personal products like lipsticks and shampoo. Its popularity has spurred people to clear tropical forests to grow more palm trees. Growing the trees that produce the oil requires the leveling of native forest and the destruction of local farmlands — which doubles the effect on the ecosystem.

5.Grass lands are needed for cattle feeding and developing the cattle growing industry. In order to raise the cattle cheaply, several countries tend to deforest as it is cheap and allows the local industry to meet the demand of multinationals for cheaper animal products.

Deforestation not only removes vegetation that is important for removing carbon dioxide from the air, but the act of clearing the forests also produces greenhouse gas emissions (around 20% according to a recent study). It results in a decline in biodiversity and increases rates of soil loss.  Deforestation also results in changes in precipitation and river flow as it  reduces the content of water in the soil and groundwater as well as atmospheric moisture.

Forests can also be restored, through replanting trees in cleared areas or simply allowing the forest ecosystem to regenerate over time. Everyone can do their part to curb deforestation. We can adopt sustainable farming practices, make factories more cleaner and monitor their emissions, forest management and strict monitoring of tree cutting should be carried out by various government and other NGOs and plant a tree when possible.
