Online education during covid 19

ONLINE EDUCATION DURING COVID 19

Due to the covid 19 pandemic all over the world the education institution are closed. Now, Students do not need to get up early in the Morning for school, there is no more morning PT classes and no more scolding of teachers. But the education will not stop there; Indian education system has turned towards delivery of education via the internet — or online education. Teachers are using online platforms like Google classroom, zoom, skypy, whatApp for classes. Online classes ensuring that education will not stop due to corona virus. We human have not experience this before and most of us were not prepared for it sure. It’s a first time experience for all.

Research suggests that online learning has been shown to increase retention of information, and take less time, meaning the changes corona virus have caused might be here to stay.

There are many online platforms are providing free courses and online classes to help the students during this pandemics.

As it is a new experience for students so it has both positives and negatives impact on students

I would like to talk about positive side of it, now students do not have to travel for attending the classes now they can attend classes in their phone, it will save their time and students can use that time for self studies or for other activities. Another plus point is there is a button of mute on online platforms which help in muting the unwanted sound and noise from background that is not possible in a normal classroom it help both the teachers and students to actively focused on class.

However the other side of E-education is: as it’s an online platform teacher is not able to keep eyes on students plus not able to know who all are actively attending the classes. It will make student introvert as there is less changes of interacting with everyone. There is possibility that students only attend the classes that they want to attend it will impact the attendance of students.

Some students without reliable internet access and/or technology struggle to participate in digital learning. The Indian youth are also characterized by limited digital skills. Only 17.6 per cent of the youth could use a computer and 18.4 per cent could access internet. Especially the rural children do not have the online facilities like access of internet even some do not have mobiles and computers.

I can conclude it by saying that E-education is a good way of delivery education to students during this time but of now it is only urban quintiles in India are the somehow ready for online education. Government education policy during the covid19 needs a more egalitarian means of delivering education. The emphasis on online education has to be accompanied with changes in curriculum, textbooks, teacher training, examination systems and pedagogy. And most important to access basic facilities to rural children of online education, only than country like India will able to use E education as a way of delivery education to students.

REALITY OR SUPERSTITION?

We live in the world, full of Myths, Superstitions and Old Wives’ Tale!

There are a plethora of fake believes that people still follow and has made these myths, a part of their lives! I want to drag your attention towards the realities behind a few famous superstitions which are been followed.

HANGING LEMON AND CHILLIES PREVENTS BAD LUCK!  This is one of the most famous superstitions that we can see at the door of every second house in India! Indians believe that a goddess named Alakshmi is fond of sour and spicy things, and, she only brings bad luck, disappointments and discomfort. If, lemon and chillies are hanged on the door. The goddess will satiate by eating this, and won’t enter inside, and, will go back. In reality, when lemon and chillies are threaded together, the thread soaks up the juices and averts insects, pesticides, etc. from entering inside.

BLACK CAT CROSSING PATH!  It is believed that, if a black cat crosses your path, you must hold your plans for a while, otherwise it will bring bad luck and you may meet an accident ahead. The truth behind this myth is that long ago people used bullock carts as their vehicles, and animals like leopards with glowing eyes were more likely to cross their path, this makes cows and horses afraid and threatens them, so people prefer to halt for some time so that the animals can refresh themselves.

BREAKING OF MIRROR BRINGS BAD LUCK!  People believe that, if a mirror breaks, it brings misfortune and bad luck. This is a myth; there is no connection between bad luck and mirror breaking. During the old times, mirrors were expensive, and, everyone was not able to afford it, so, this scuttlebutt was spread that breaking mirror brings bad luck!

STAY HOME AT THE TIME OF ECLIPSE!  It is believed that during the eclipse we should not step out of home, should not eat food as it becomes poisonous, the light is harmful and causes blindness. The truth is that we should not look directly against the sun as it may cause retinal damage. The UV rays emitted during an eclipse are not good for bodies.

AVOID SLEEPING WITH YOUR HEAD FACING NORTH!  Our forefathers made a rule that we should sleep without heading towards the South, if we sleep with our head in the North, we invite death. The actual reason behind this is that the relation between Earth’s magnetic field and the bio-magnetism (Human body’s field), it causes harmful effects like blood pressure and other diseases that asymmetry if the field would create.

GIRLS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THINGS WHILE MENSTRUATION! Girls are not allowed to enter the kitchen while they are on their periods, they are not allowed to do work, and to touch things as this became a superstition. Earlier, there were no sanitary pads and painkillers which caused discomforts. Women were not allowed to work as they have to tolerate pain for the five stressful days, because of this they can’t do hard work. That’s why they were not allowed to work for those five days, but, it converted into a myth and a superstition and became a ritual.

GHOSTS LIVE IN PEEPAL TREE!  If people have their house in front, behind or beside the peepal tree, they prefer selling it out or prefer not to live there. It is said that we should not go near peepal tree in the night as ghosts roam and live there. The truth is that the sunlight and carbon dioxide produces glucose for plants, this process is called photosynthesis. And, inhaling carbon dioxide is not good for the human body, that’s why our forefathers made a rule of not going near the peepal tree.

BATHING AFTER ATTENDING FUNERAL! People believe that if we don’t bath after coming back from the funeral will cause link with the deportee’s soul. Years back, there was no vaccinations of the contagious diseases, so our ancestors set a ritual of bathing after attending the funeral for prevention of infections from the dead body.

DON’T CUT NAILS AFTER SUNSET!  It is said that we should not cut nails after sunset as it is not good. The reason behind this is that the blades of nail-cutters are very sharp and may cause harm if we use it in dim light or dark. That’s why we should avoid cutting nails at night.

DON’T WASH HAIRS ON THURSDAY!  Our grandparents say we should not wash hairs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This rule was made for saving water as it requires a lot of water for washing of hairs.

DON’T SWEEP AFTER SUNSET!  Sweeping after sunset brings bad luck, it is believed in every Indian house. This rule was made by our forefathers, as artificial lights were not invented at that time, so, they preferred seeping home in the daylight to avoid sweeping something important because of dim light.

EAT CURD AND SUGAR BEFORE GOING OUT!  It is said that eating curd and sugar before starting something new or before heading out as this brings good luck and increases the chance of getting good. The reality behind this superstition is that the consumption of curd and sugar gives cooling to the stomach and keeps one cool.

“Family – Your pillar of strength!”

For me, my family has always been and will forever remain my first priority. My family members have supported me until now in every good and bad situation. For me, they are my greatest strengths.

The family consists of those people who are linked to each other by blood. These people are bonded by love, care, respect, and affection. Having a caring and loving family is really a blessing. Nobody can actually love and care for you as your family does.

It is therefore very important to realize the worth of family in your life. It is equally important to respect and love your family members as much as they do.

In this fast-moving life, we hardly get time to spend with our family. Many of us take our family for granted. But this is truly wrong as our family is very precious for us and we should value our family members. By spending time with them, we can make some unforgettable memories that can be cherished forever.

Why your family is considered as your biggest strength?

● The love that your family members give you is unconditional. This love doesn’t have any hidden motive and is completely pure. It is this love and affection that helps you to face the hatred that the real world gives you.

● You get to learn so many things from your family. Your family members are your first teachers. They teach you good human values. They help to boost your confidence and improve your overall personality. They show you the right path in life.

● The strength given by your family members makes you so powerful from within that you become capable enough to handle tough situations and deal with the evil people in real life.

● Family is your biggest support. Your family members are those people that never leave you alone. They stand by you and help you to get through hard times.

● Family members are the ones who are responsible for your success. Each and every member of your family contributes to your success in whichever way possible.

● Even when the entire world is against you, your family members will never isolate you. They are the ones who will fight with everyone for you. They protect you and try to keep you safe from this cruel world.

● Your family encourages you to do good things in life. But, it also corrects and stops you whenever you are going on the wrong path. Family is like a true guide that gives you advice which always proves to be useful for you.

You make many friends in your actual and virtual life during your lifetime. You get a chance to meet many people during your professional life as well. These people and many of your friends leave such a good impact on you that you start considering them as your family. But remember, there is a huge difference between someone whom you have considered as a family member and your actual family member.

Therefore, respect, love, and spend time with your family. Trust me, this will make you happy from within.

Fastfoods : An Unhealthy diet

Nothing is bad in this world if it is upto a limit and everything has a different range of limit. It is similar in case of fastfood too. Fastfood is the food which we buy from the shops which they makes very fast within very less time using precooked or pre prepared things.
Fastfood contains sodium, carbohydrate, saturated fat and many other things whose excessive amount in body is very harmful.

Eating fastfood once in a week doesn’t affect body but eating it more than that causes so many diseases. Fastfood contains extra calories. Fastfood causes diseses like diabetes, headache, heart disease, weight gain, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, dental distress and depression. It also affects the person’s fertility. It also causes many skin problems. It decreases our immune system strength.

Immune system helps in fighting against the diseases and helps in recovering from illness. In today’s world we are facing pandemic corona virus whose vaccine is still not developed and only way to recover form this disease is via our immune system. Those with strong immune system are fighting efficiently against this disease and making it lose. Not only during pandemic but everytime we should eat healthy to increase our immunity. Eating natural products such as fruits like kiwi, papaya and citrus fruits, vegetables like spinach, broccoli, ginger, garlic, and dryfruits, yogurt, turmeric, red bell pepper etc. helps to increase immunity a lot.

For a good living, being healthy is most important thing that can be maintained only by eating healthy.

Locusts- The Hungry Beasts

The farmers are already distressed because of Covid-19 and to add to their misery, the locusts have invaded their farms. After creating havoc in East Africa, Middle East and Pakistan, these swarms of locusts have arrived in India.

What are locusts?

Locusts are nothing but grasshoppers in a group. They are grasshoppers when they are in solitary and locusts when they are in groups. They have been around but their sudden rise is associated with rise in cyclones and rainfalls. These environmental changes have been a favorable condition for them to breed. The increase in population density leads to changes in their appearance  and brain chemistry, which causes them to move in large groups or swarms. The current species are desert locusts.

Why are they a problem?

Locusts basically eat everything that is green. A swarm of locusts consists of 40-80 million adults and that too in a range of one square km. They can cover an area of 100-150 kms in a day. They can eat as much as 10 elephants in one day. One locust has the capacity to consume 2.3kg of food per day. When there is a swarm attack for more than two continuous years it is called plague.

As per the April data, they have destroyed 3,50,000 metric tons of cereal, nearly 2,00,000 hectares of cropland and over 1.3 million hectares of grazing land in Ethiopia. There were $2.5 billion dollars in crop damages after a 2003-2005 locust plague in West Africa. If not controlled they can do a lot of damage to the crops. The damage is not just related to crops but also the psychology of humans. Farmers put their heart and sole to raise crops and when they see it destroyed in minutes they are devastated.

India is facing a problem after a span of 26 years. However, this time the locusts are immature and immature ones are more dangerous as they have a longer life span. The locusts that entered India are about 10-12 days old and are moving in search of food. Since, the Rabi harvesting is over and the Kharif sowing is yet to begin, they were unable to find any vegetation.

Is this a new problem?

Locusts have been a trouble for many decades. In the 19th century, Western America was troubled by a species of locusts called Rocky Mountain. They not only used to eat crops but also wool from the sheep, back of horses and even people’s clothes. These species are now believed to be extinct.

How are they prevented?

They can be prevented to some extent with the use of some chemicals. There are experts who study weather patterns and past records of swarm to see where they might move next. That area is then sprayed with chemicals to prevent them.

With the cyclone Amphan and early rains, these locusts will enjoy good breeding conditions in India and that will be a huge problem for Indian farmers.
