Northeast India an Untouched Heaven

Northeast India of you may be familiar with others might not have given attention in the geography class. North East India consists of eight States Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The states are much closer to the name nature as compared to other states. The people here live a mostly tribal but they are friendly too. These states were always neglected form development for many years. They are discriminated because of their looks. Many North East Indian student face racist comments on daily basis.

And since the outbreak of COVID-19 their situation is becoming worse. They were beaten , were called coronavirus, where spit up on, even the shopkeeper refuse to sell their products to them.

The we treated like they don’t belong to this country. This is really shameful act. It doesn’t mean that I am pointing out each and everyone and saying that they are racist, but there are some Anti Social people who are racist.

There are many examples where North East people have brought glory to our country whether it is Mary Kom,Hima Das, Mirabai Chanu ,Baichung Bhutia, Lovlina borgohain, etc. Slowly their understanding their right and are coming up in in all the field, but there is a long way to go. And it’s our responsibility to treat every being with respect and should at least know about one own country’s geography.

Now new development projects are taking place in North East too. The act is east policy which will connect India to Southeast and East Asia.

They are famous for other things too like Assam is famous for its tea, which is considered to be the most expensive tea in the world. Sikkim is famous for its cleanliness and organic farming. Meghalaya for receiving the highest rainfall in the world. Tripura for producing sports stars and hand-wovencottonfabric and woodcarvings.Meghalaya is famous for manipuri dance and bamboo forests. Mizoram for it’s evergreen Hills and dense forest of bamboo. Nagaland for which tribal culture and the hottest chilli in the world, the ghost paper. Arunachal Pradesh also known as the Rising Sun of India famous for Buddhist temple, Brahmaputra river and beautiful green forests.

If you are a person who loves nature and adventure, and want to take a holiday and relax then North East is a must visit place for you. It will provide you with the opportunity of river rafting mountain climbing trekking etc. You will definitely not regret it.

Chilly memories -winter

Winter is one of the most important seasons in India. It is a part of the four seasons that occur in India. Winters are the coolest season that starts from December and last till March. The peak time when winter is experienced the most in December and January. In India, winters hold great importance. In addition, the essence it has is admired by many people. Winters give you the time to indulge in various activities like snowball fighting, building snowmen, ice hockey and more. It is a great time for kids to enjoy their vacations and get cozy in their blankets.

Essence of Winter

During winters, schools usually take a break and close down. The days are shorter and the nights get longer. The chilly mornings give you a different sense altogether. Hot drinks like coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are enjoyed more during winters. The sun rises quite late and sometimes it does not.

Even when it does, it doesn’t get a bit hot. People long for a little sunshine as the cold weather sends chills down the spine. You see people on the roads burning woods and paper to get a little warmth. However, not many people prefer going out in winters. They like sitting by the fireplace or heater all day.

In the hilly areas, people experience snow during winters. They have to shovel it out of the way to make way for walking. The essence of winters is enhanced by Christmas as well. It sets the holiday mood for people and is admired all over the world.

As the animals do not have proper shelter, they too lose their lives. In addition, many flights are also canceled during this season. Nonetheless, this does not make winter any less important. It is quite essential to maintain balance in the weather of our country.

Why I Love Winter?

I personally love winters. This season brings a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables. People get the chance to eat fresh grapes, apples, carrots, cauliflower, guava and more. Furthermore, so many beautiful flowers bloom during this season. These flowers include roses, dahlias and more. This makes winter even more beautiful than it already is.

Other than that, no lizards are to be found as they go in hibernation. This makes me very happy and lets me live fearlessly. Most importantly, winter mornings are the best part of this season for me. I like getting up early in winters and witnessing the morning dew on flowers. There is a different vibe altogether that comes with winters.

Also, our school organizes bonfire which is one of the most awaited events of the year.

In short, winter is as important as any other season. Sure, it may have its negative sides and positive sides, but that happens with every season. Winters helps you enjoy long morning walks and fresh air.

Don’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover

Why we all always give more importance to our looks, is it really that important? is someone’s appearance is more important than his or her actual nature?

Why does people judge someone by their looks and come up with an conclusion based on someone’s external appearance without even knowing them. People forgot that the “appearance can be deceptive”.
If someone is comfortable with simple cloths and no make-up look, if he or she love to live that way then why others are so curious about that. It doesn’t matter that, what we wear or how we look it is not gonna affect our talent anyways.
Take of the mask and face yourself, looks or appearance can’t hide your true nature for longer. Remember we were born to be real not to be perfect, be yourself even if you live for a day.

Appearance valued to much in our society and on every point people will judge you based on your appearance but, don’t give many thoughts thinking what others will say, if I wore this or if I look like this, what will others say, peoples will gonna talk behind your back no matter what you do, how you look, they gonna criticize you all the time, just live on your own way it’s your anyways and remember only one thing that, “kuch toh log kahenge, logonka kam hai kehna, chodo bekar ki baton main kahin beet na jaye raina” and keep going.

No matter who you are, how you look, your skin colour, your appearance it doesn’t matter, being beautiful has nothing to do with your outer looks or appearance, it’s about your nature, your character and how you treat others. Everyone sees what you appear on outside, but they don’t know that a person becomes more attractive not by their looks but by their act of kindness, love, respect, honesty and loyalty they show. They will judge you but after knowing your kind nature they can’t stop themselves from loving you. Always remember that the appearance for small time but your nature is for lifetime.

Sometimes we come across some people who love to live simple, who don’t give more importance to their outer look but their inner beauty emerges only when we converse with them and get to know them better.

Judging a person does not define who they are, also your self confidence didn’t come from your appearance, certainly not your appearance!!

Let’s learn not to judge a book by it’s cover and let’s try to understand and know someone based on their inner beauty not on their appearance because APPERANCE CAN BE DECEPTIVE.

Rulers of almost every dynasty in Maharashtra gave tremendous importance to the construction and maintenance of forts. That’s one of the reasons you will find a fort in every nook and cranny of Maharashtra. Pune is a city that has a large number of forts around it. Many of these forts were built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the great Maratha warrior king. These Forts are like real treasure of Maharashtra.

So here are top 5 forts near Pune you must visit.

1. Sinhagad Fort

Sinhagad Fort Formerly known as Kondhana is one of the most beautiful fort to visit near Pune.

The forts has been the site of many battles, with the Battle of Sinhagad (1670) being the most notable of all. The fort was named ‘Lion Fort’ (Sinhagad) to honor the sacrifice of Subhedar Tanaji Malusare by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who lost his life while fighting the Mughals in the battle.

The fort, built on the top of a hill, offers an amazing view of the lush greenery surrounding it. Pune Darwaza and Kalyan Darwaza are the two entrances to the fort, with the former being the main entry point for visitors. There are a few temples and a memorial built for Tanaji Malusare inside the fort.

Although there is a motorable road till the entrance, trekking to it is preferred by many youngsters. The 13-km trek has a medium difficulty level which makes it one of the best forts near Pune for trekking.

2. Torna Fort

The historical significance of Torna Fort is that it was the first fort captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj; thereby, making it the foundation of the Maratha empire. With an elevation of over 4600 feet above sea level, it is also the highest fort near Pune. Over the years, it has become one of the favourite destinations for anyone who wishes to experience history amidst the opulence of natural beauty.

Torna Fort is also a popular trekking hotspot, and the best time to visit it, is in between September and December. The trek begins from Velhe village as its base. One will first get the exalted view of the fort in the distance after a walk of 200 m. The entire trail is dotted with rocky patches hemmed by dense vegetation. The 4-hour trek goes through various structures like Bini Darwaza, Menghai Goddess Temple, Budhla Machi and the majestic Zunjar Machi. If you are trekking to the fort during the monsoon, be a little careful as the trail becomes slippery in patches. The view from top of the fort is very beautiful and mesmerising.

3. Shivneri Fort

Shivneri Fort : the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha empire. Located near Junnar town, the military fortification has a memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, known as Shiv Kunj right in the center.

The fort offers a panoramic view of the picturesque mountainous and beautiful lakes in the backdrop.

The fort has been rightly rated as one of the most favorite places for sightseeing as it has some interesting spots, such as the temple of Goddess Shivai.

4. Raigad Fort

Raigad Fort is another witness to the glorious past of the Maratha empire, be it the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji or the various battles that were fought here. The hill fortress was the capital of the Maratha empire during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Though many portions of the fort are in ruins, the remaining structures stand tall, testifying why Raigad Fort was called the ‘King of Forts’ as well as ‘Gibraltar of the East’. There are towers, grand entrances, artificial lakes, a Shiva temple and many other structures inside the fort.

Raigad Fort is a favourite among adventure enthusiasts because you have to either use the ropeway or trek to the fort, which is 2700 feet above sea level. Those who want to trek to the fort need to climb around 1700 steps from the foothills to reach the fort.

5. Pratapgad Fort

If you want to indulge in a day full of adventure, history and scenic beauty, Pratapgad Fort is the place to be. It is one of the most well  historical marvels in Maharashtra. Pratapgad Fort is also known as the Valour Fort as the heroic battle between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzhal Khan took place here. The fort is divided into parts – the upper fort and the lower fort. The lower fort is largely occupied by Bhawani temple, whereas the upper fort includes several eye-catching structures.

As Pratapgad Fort is located near Mahabaleshwar, it is frequented by several tourists. Around two to three hours of strolling around are enough to check out every nook and corner of this architectural beauty and its majestic surroundings. The best time to visit is around March and September as the weather remains pleasant during these periods.

Beauty of Kashmir!

Kashmir is located on the Jhelum River in north India. It is always cold here. It is very beautiful. It is called Paradise on Earth. Its beauty seems very captivating in every season. In summer there is greenery everywhere and in winter everything is covered with snow. The red apples hanging on the apples look very beautiful. There are many tourist places to see in Kashmir like Gulmarg, Sonmarg etc. Gulmarg is called the life of Kashmir. Sarovars like Vullar add to the beauty of Kashmir.

The people of Kashmir are called Kashmiri Pandits and they are very beautiful. They are also non-vegetarians and consume kebabs etc. After eating here, it is rotated in sweets. Saffron is cultivated here. Whoever goes to this place makes sure to buy show pieces made of walnut wood, apple, Pashmina shawl and saffron. Kashmir is a matter of great dispute between India and Pakistan. Kashmir has its own flag and it has its own constitution under Section 370 of the Constitution of India. No person outside Kashmir can buy land in Kashmir.

The poet has rightly said about Kashmir that “if there is heaven on earth, it is here, it is here”. We have been fortunate enough to spend some of our holidays in Kashmir, but this happened a few years before the disturbances started in the valley. We usually visited Kashmir during our summer holidays. We took a train to Pathankot. Steal the bus from Srinagar. The last time we were there, we went to Chandan Van. A trip in the Kashmir valley is a beautiful experience. Green plains, long There are trees, lakes, springs, snow-capped mountains. Both sides of the streets are lined with Apple and Peer Orchard.

Wild strawberry grows in abundance everywhere, flowers and fragrant saffron are cultivated here. Kashmir relies on its image of being a paradise on Earth. A visit to the Shalimar and Nishat Gardens is a lake dating back to the Mughal era, when Nur Jahan’s favorite queen of Emperor Jahangir visited these gardens. There are beautiful poplar trees, flowers and fountains all over the place. Many Hindi films have been shot here. We often visited the lakes of Kashmir. Dal Lake, which is a major tourist attraction, has many home boats. Many foreigners come here and stay during their holidays. Many boats called the gazelle between these house boats and the shores of this lake. Likewise, there is the famous Wular lake, which is a large fresh water lake.

However, among all the lakes of Kashmir, my favorites were Evanabal and Gangarbil lakes. Mansabal Lake is situated between the mountains and the Indus River. While the Gangarbal Lake is considered the source of the Ganges. It is closed in the rocky center of Harmok, Kashmir also has many springs for their healing powers. The most famous among all is Chashma – Shahi, or Shahi Vasant. It is known for its medicinal values. There is also a sulfur lake called ‘Tatta Pani’ in Kashmir. It is believed that if all take a bath in these springs, then all types of skin diseases can be cured. Kashmir is a trekker’s paradise. There are several trails scattered all over the valley which are ideally suited for trekking. They are variously known as Gulmarg or path of flowers, Sonamarg or path of gold etc. In fact the beauty of Kashmir binds a person and does not allow him to leave the place.

Many organisms living in the ocean have the property of bioluminescence. Bioluminescence can be found in bacteria ( living in the ocean), algae,jellyfish, worms,crustaceans(a sea animal), seastars, and some species of sharks. Mind you, these are comparatively just a few listed. For the organism to produce light, it must contain a compound called Luciferin – meaning light bearer in Latin. Now, when this compound(luciferin) comes in contact with oxygen, it reacts with the gas, converting into light energy. An organism must contain luciferin in order to become bioluminescent. There are many types and varieties of this  compound present in different creatures. But generally, most of the organisms produce luciferin catalysts. This sight is more prominent in the deep sea region but the most breathtaking scene is on the surface of the oceans when tiny micro organisms grow making it seem..just magical. According to a research ,  fishes of about 1500 known species have the ability to produce this light through luciferin. Bioluminescence are wonderful sights to look at. From the study of 2018, scientists discovered that the ray finned fishes have evolved about 27 on the basis of this property .Amazing,isn’t it?

•Use

Now, the question might come into your mind that ‘ what is the actual use of bioluminescence?’ Well, for us it might be just a great scene to look at but for the sea animals, it’s likely a vital property. 

  1. Prey- These animals use their light to lure their prey to come near them, making it easy and convinient to hunt. This technique can also fool larger animals.For example. The cookie cutter shark(weird name) attracts squids and sharks from its light and when they are close enough, it bites on them.
  2. Communicate- For the bioluminescent animals, they have to be safe from being eaten or getting hurt. So they use these methods, maybe to communicate.
  3. To attract mates- Females usually use bioluminescence to attract male species to come to them.(Pretty sneaky, aren’t they?)
  4. Protection- Animals can potentially hide themselves through the surface of ocean, when using bioluminescence.  It helps them to survive and make themselves invisible
  5. Confuse- Some species of squids splash bioluminescent liquid rather than ink, simply to confuse their predators.
  6.  Vision-  Many seaanimals live on the  lower surfaces of the ocean. Bioluminescence helps the organisms to see clearly.
  • Is it dangerous?

 No, not necessarily every bioluminescent organism is toxic. But yes, they do exist. The dinoflagellates  a microbe which is found in the Matsu islands of  Taiwan,China. The microbe is also called China’s ‘blue tears.’ It is because the organism has an eerie glow to it. Many tourists come here to observe this phenomenon . But these dinoflagellates  are toxic. But why? Well, dinoflagellates is an algae which is harmful to many sea organisms and humans as well. What makes them toxic is, when they eat, they release ammonia particles in the sea. Not only that, but also, they take up all the oxygen available for the atmosphere, leaving nothing for the other sea animals,hence causing them to die. And what is more disastrous,that their numbers are increasing by every year. It is also known as harmful algal blooms(HAB’s).Some say that it is romantic to look at, but I really wouldn’t  think choking myself to death as romantic..

A Hawaiian bobtail squid actually has an organ which is practically filled with bioluminescent bacteria just after hours of its birth. But it usually contains the chemicals needed within its body.

  • How many colours..?

We all know that light travels in the form of something called ‘wavelenghts’. Some wavelengths are short, whereas others are big. The visible spectrum of  light is VIBGYOR (violet, indigo,blue,green,yellow,red) and all the shades from the mixture of them. Light cannot travel in the deep sea as the wavelengths are unable to travel that far. Hence, most of the colours in bioluminescence are blue-green. Infact, only some animals living in the deep sea have the vision to see the colours of greater wavelength like red.

Bioluminescence is also used to solve the vast mysteries of den in the oceans. According to a site, Edie Widder- specialising in bioluminescence made some very mind boggling facts about squid etc.

This phenomenon is really beautiful and magnetic to see and can be spotted from even far away. Unfortunately, only some sea surfaces have the bioluminescent property, maybe due to some climatic conditions, or maybe they are everywhere, we just can’t see them !!
