US extends warm welcome to India on its election to UNSC as a non-permanent member

The US has extended a warm welcome to India on its election to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member and said that it looks forward to working with New Delhi in the powerful organ of the United Nations on the issues of international peace and security.

The remarks of America, which is one of the five permanent members of the UNSC, came hours after India’s  overwhelming election as a non-permanent member for a two-year term, beginning January 1, 2021.

We extend a warm welcome to India and congratulations on India’s successful election to the UN Security Council, said the South and Central Asia Bureau of the State Department.

We look forward to working together on issues of international peace and security — a natural extension of the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, it said in a tweet.

In an unprecedented election where envoys from the 192 member states voted wearing masks and in adherence to the strict social distancing norms due to the COVID-19 pandemic, India, the endorsed candidate from the Asia-Pacific States, won 184 votes out of the 192 ballots cast in the elections for the five non-permanent seats of the Security Council, the world organisation’s most powerful organ.

In 2021, India, Norway, Ireland and Mexico will sit in the most powerful UN organ along with five permanent members — China, France, Russia, the UK and the US.  This is the eighth time that India will sit at the UN high-table.

PM Modi says India has taken big decision to fully open coal and mining sector for competition, capital, participation and technology

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said India has taken the big decision to fully open the coal and mining sector for competition, capital, participation, and technology.

Addressing the launching of auction of 41 coal mines for commercial mining, via video conference, Mr Modi said a major step is being taken today to make India self reliant in the Energy sector. He said the government is not only launching an auction for commercial coal mining, but also taking the coal sector out of decades of lockdown.

The Prime Minister pointed out the irony that India has the fourth largest coal reserve in the world, is the second largest producer in the world, but is also the second largest coal importer.

He said the situation has lasted for decades now and the coal sector was kept entangled in the web of Captive and Non Captive. He added that the sector was excluded from competition and transparency was a big problem.

Mr Modi said India will overcome the Covid19 pandemic and the country will turn this crisis into opportunity. He said the pandemic has taught India the lesson of being self reliant.

The Prime Minister said an Atmanirbhar Bharat means reducing dependency on imports, and saving crores of foreign currency. He said an Atmanirbhar Bharat entails that India will develop resources so that the country does not have to rely on imports.

India was a candidate for a non-permanent seat from the Asia-Pacific category for the 2021-22 term. Its victory was certain as it was the sole candidate vying for the lone seat from the grouping. New Delhi’s candidature was unanimously endorsed by the 55-member Asia-Pacific grouping in June last year.

India’s two year term will begin on January 1, 2021. This is the eighth time that India will sit at the UN high-table, which comprises five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members.

Fastfoods : An Unhealthy diet

Nothing is bad in this world if it is upto a limit and everything has a different range of limit. It is similar in case of fastfood too. Fastfood is the food which we buy from the shops which they makes very fast within very less time using precooked or pre prepared things.
Fastfood contains sodium, carbohydrate, saturated fat and many other things whose excessive amount in body is very harmful.

Eating fastfood once in a week doesn’t affect body but eating it more than that causes so many diseases. Fastfood contains extra calories. Fastfood causes diseses like diabetes, headache, heart disease, weight gain, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, dental distress and depression. It also affects the person’s fertility. It also causes many skin problems. It decreases our immune system strength.

Immune system helps in fighting against the diseases and helps in recovering from illness. In today’s world we are facing pandemic corona virus whose vaccine is still not developed and only way to recover form this disease is via our immune system. Those with strong immune system are fighting efficiently against this disease and making it lose. Not only during pandemic but everytime we should eat healthy to increase our immunity. Eating natural products such as fruits like kiwi, papaya and citrus fruits, vegetables like spinach, broccoli, ginger, garlic, and dryfruits, yogurt, turmeric, red bell pepper etc. helps to increase immunity a lot.

For a good living, being healthy is most important thing that can be maintained only by eating healthy.

Locusts- The Hungry Beasts

The farmers are already distressed because of Covid-19 and to add to their misery, the locusts have invaded their farms. After creating havoc in East Africa, Middle East and Pakistan, these swarms of locusts have arrived in India.

What are locusts?

Locusts are nothing but grasshoppers in a group. They are grasshoppers when they are in solitary and locusts when they are in groups. They have been around but their sudden rise is associated with rise in cyclones and rainfalls. These environmental changes have been a favorable condition for them to breed. The increase in population density leads to changes in their appearance  and brain chemistry, which causes them to move in large groups or swarms. The current species are desert locusts.

Why are they a problem?

Locusts basically eat everything that is green. A swarm of locusts consists of 40-80 million adults and that too in a range of one square km. They can cover an area of 100-150 kms in a day. They can eat as much as 10 elephants in one day. One locust has the capacity to consume 2.3kg of food per day. When there is a swarm attack for more than two continuous years it is called plague.

As per the April data, they have destroyed 3,50,000 metric tons of cereal, nearly 2,00,000 hectares of cropland and over 1.3 million hectares of grazing land in Ethiopia. There were $2.5 billion dollars in crop damages after a 2003-2005 locust plague in West Africa. If not controlled they can do a lot of damage to the crops. The damage is not just related to crops but also the psychology of humans. Farmers put their heart and sole to raise crops and when they see it destroyed in minutes they are devastated.

India is facing a problem after a span of 26 years. However, this time the locusts are immature and immature ones are more dangerous as they have a longer life span. The locusts that entered India are about 10-12 days old and are moving in search of food. Since, the Rabi harvesting is over and the Kharif sowing is yet to begin, they were unable to find any vegetation.

Is this a new problem?

Locusts have been a trouble for many decades. In the 19th century, Western America was troubled by a species of locusts called Rocky Mountain. They not only used to eat crops but also wool from the sheep, back of horses and even people’s clothes. These species are now believed to be extinct.

How are they prevented?

They can be prevented to some extent with the use of some chemicals. There are experts who study weather patterns and past records of swarm to see where they might move next. That area is then sprayed with chemicals to prevent them.

With the cyclone Amphan and early rains, these locusts will enjoy good breeding conditions in India and that will be a huge problem for Indian farmers.

One more attack = Indo-China WAR!!!

The relation between Indian and Chinese army are now being worse. India holds a record of never attacking any of the army first till date. Many near by countries think that India is weak and cannot attack first, but this is our spirituality and religion to avoid any fight, but when the things get worse there need to be done something. India never approach any army for fight it always keep the things calm and to solve the problem with words and not the wars. India always gave a extraordinary action in case of any mischief done by the opponents, India carried out many operations like:

  • Operation Vijay
  • Operation Meghdut
  • Operation Surya Hope
  • Operation Brasstackes
  • Operation Cactus and many more to list…

India also gave a very strong answer of the Pulwama attack. India has the strongest army and technology support from Russia and US.

THE ART OF CONVERSATION

There is one art of humans that distinguishes us from animals, and that is the art of conversation. A speech is a monologue, whereas conversation is a dialogue. It implies warmth, politeness, frankness, equality and several other quality virtues. The art of conversation is something which not everybody possesses. Few people can engage us in an enjoyable and cherishing conversation and in that both the mind and heart are involved. People who have mastered the art or who are very good in it influence people; they make friends quickly; find it convenient to talk anywhere and everywhere; put across their ideas rapidly and can do much of everything.

The primary step to learn it is to have faith in oneself and develop confidence. There are simple things in life that all of us can do- read books, works of people and then acquire knowledge. We can exchange our ideas with people we feel comfortable with and gain insights from them on the subject matter. These are the basics, and it is fun to be a part of a warm, relevant and meaningful talk. It is also fun to be in amusing talks provided it is a conversation.

We can always converse with people around us on anything. Be it the food we eat, things that we do, our issues, success, things around us. Any topic that we choose for our self is good enough to help us progress in this art. We never truly know the impact of what we did, and we understand it once it gets reflected through our performance. With this art, many people conquer hearts, but with it, we confront an inherent challenge of association. It means that we must understand that knowledge is not equal to wisdom, and not everybody is willing to accept our knowledge and wisdom. So, we must decide a goal for us and use this art to progress in life. We must also be conscious of our surroundings, the people that fall in our reach; they may get hurt or may not like it. When we use our knowledge with the art of conversation, we leave this challenge behind and create a progressive personality. We must acknowledge that a good conversation is not about leaving a long-lasting impression but just to put across our ideas and thoughts effectively. A good name, impression, laurels, accolades, achievements, successes come as a result of it, but the important thing to be always kept in mind is, we do it to create a good time- a memorable time.

World Picnic Day…

We celebrate world picnic day on 18 June, and It’s often claimed that life is no picnic but today it is! International Picnic Day is a chance to eat out in the open air with friends or family. The word “picnic” comes from the French language, and it’s believed this type of informal outdoor meal became a popular pastime in France after the Revolution. As fans of Jane Austen’s novels will know, 19th-century picnics were elaborate social occasions, with menus featuring a wide range of cold meats and pies that took days to prepare. International Picnic Day is celebrated in many countries, though its origins are uncertain. Charity events, school picnics, and all kinds of other group meals are organized to mark the occasion. You could also bike, walk or hike to a nearby beauty spot, or just take your sandwiches and cold hard-boiled eggs into the garden and enjoy an al fresco lunch.

International Picnic Day is observed on June 18, every year. It is a day to encourage people to go outdoors and enjoy a hearty meal in nature, with other people’s company. In the early days, people used to go on a picnic as an escape from their daily lives. The true origin of International Picnic day remains unknown, but it can be traced back to the end of the French Revolution and the Victorian Era. This day is also marked by various charity events and school picnics. People all around the world meet their friends and family and go on picnics. They generally used to carry food, outdoor games, soft drinks, juices, and other essentials to share it with their travel partners. According to the Guinness Book of World records, the largest Picnic took place in  Portugal. In Australia’s Northern Territory, the International picnic day is celebrated in August on the first Monday of each year. It is a popular concept in that area and the general public gets a day off on this day. Schools and Colleges are also shut on this day.

Asian people do not give any importance to the picnic day, and this day always celebrated in Australia and the U.S., Australian celebrate Picnic Day events since the late 1800s in Northern Territory. The Harts Range Races in Central Australia are held each Picnic Day long weekend. The races began in 1946 when three brothers Bennett, Quinton, and Kil Webb from Mount Riddock Station raced stockman Jack Schaber and the regional policeman Senior Constable Bob Darken over a distance of about a mile to the Ulgarna Yards to determine who had the fastest horse.

Moreover, in the U.S., Picnic Day is organized by a board of directors consisting of 18–20 students, ranging from different backgrounds and talents. Directors are full-time students and active participants of other extra-curricular activities and events at UC Davis. Every year, the board of directors selects a theme that will reflect the mission and vision of that year’s Picnic Day, and they also organized a different kind of themes and parade marshals each and every year since 1942 the themes started and in 1962 the parade marshal was started.

Here are some advantages and benefits of a picnic:

  1. Spending time outdoors, basking in nature, breathing fresh air, and enjoying a great view. The pure air invigorates you and leaves you feeling rejuvenated.
  2. Spending time with family is always a great bonding experience. In the fast-paced, urbane lifestyle of today, there is often limited time for maintaining relationships with some of the most important people in your life.
  3. Since picnics often take place in warm environments, the tendency to participate in relaxing small talk is high.
  4. While picnics offer many social benefits, you don’t have to spend the entire time chatting up a storm.
  5. Meals prepared and eaten at home are usually more nutritious and healthy than eating out and particularly so when you bring food for a picnic.
  6. Eating lunch outdoors is a natural mood booster. You can be amazed at how much the lack of sun in your body can affect your mood.
  7. Picnics are a great stress buster as it helps reduce the stress and anxiety related to work and home.

Please, spend time with family at outdoor and spread awareness regarding it.

Can You Give Up?

“You can do it. Just a little more effort. You’re almost there. You’re the hero. I know you have it in you. You can’t give up.”

Well, here’s some newsflash for you. You can give up.

Be it movies, songs, books, everyone’s pushing the protagonist to do a thing which is clearly out of their scope. They may not have the physical or mental strength to do the thing but we still expect them to. It doesn’t matter whether you want to do that thing or whether it’s actually for a greater good. You just have to do it. You cannot give up. Because giving up is for losers. And the hero cannot be a loser, right? Or it’s the opposite? A loser cannot be a hero?

Shah Rukh Khan’s character from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was a scrawny guy who tried to fight with a samurai. Since they are selling their movie to you and it’s ‘the SRK’, obviously he’s going to win that fight. But think about this. You are up against some buffy wrestler let alone a professional sumo wrestler. Do you think you stand a teensy bit chance? You have your answer right there.

Provided this whole notion of not giving up works on some people, but it’s warping the minds of others. Most people cause some irreversible damage while not giving up. And more often than not, this damage is to them. I am not saying giving up is a good thing. But it’s not a bad thing either. Don’t you think, it would be nice to have an option of giving up, backing down from doing a particular thing when it is clearly out of our reach, and not be judged for it?

give up

Most of you might not know this but there is a Disney movie Moana whose scene would be apt in a situation like this. When Moana confesses she couldn’t defeat the villain, Te Fiti, her Grandma clearly says that it is not Moana’s fault. She states that the burden is too much for her granddaughter and that she would be with her even if Moana wants to go back home.

Moana did end up defeating Te Fiti in the end. But that wasn’t because someone pushed her to do that. Instead, she realized her power and strength on her own. This just shows that even if you don’t have enough strength to do something, you are not a loser. What matters is you gave your best. And there will be people who’re there for you, supporting you even when you get defeated in life because it’s not your fault. It was just too much burden.

Or a more relatable example would be Aamir Khan’s character in 3 Idiots who fought against all odds to study not because someone was pushing or cheering him but because he himself wanted to do that.

Having said all that, I’m not against actually working hard. But the focus remains on working hard because you yourself want to achieve something. What I’m saying is we should all try to find our inner voice and be happy with whatever outcome there is to our situations.
