Healthy Human Resource and A Healthy Economy

Everyone is talking about GDP growth rate, national income, total debt, international economic transactions, fiscal deficits, production rate, raw materials and what not. But an economy is driven by its citizens, the population – who in actual are contributing each single moment for their economy. An individual can be an asset for an economy only when he or she is healthy.

Now, when one talks about health it not only includes physical health but mental health too. According to World Health Organization, Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

An individual contributes a lot in the economy. He works in fields, he is in the production department, he is the one building the infrastructure of an economy, he is the one undertaking all the financial transactions, he is the one who frames economic policies, he’s in the service sector and hence he is the backbone, the brain or simply the driver of an economy.

An economy can only function properly when its population is physically, mentally and socially fit. But in the present times, there are few economies who give emphasis to mental and social health of its working population. Nobody cares about the mental well being of an individual. Firms and economies just want their employees and the working population to achieve the desired goals before the deadline. Whether the individual coming to the office, to the factory, to the workplace is fine or not, he or she is happy or not, nobody cares about it.

The policy makers, or more particularly the employers and hirers must ponder upon the thought that a physically healthy and mentally happy individual will be in much better state to contribute more to the firm, to the economy.

Though, for the sake of earning money for a two square meal and a roof above head, even being in a bad mood, sad state , he or she will definitely do the work being assigned but still every rational thinker knows that an unhealthy person cannot contribute more than a healthy person.

Whether someone is unhealthy physically or mentally, he or she will really not be able to work properly and will certainly exhaust him or her even more.

An economy, a firm exists solely because of its working population, the Human Capital. And if that human capital is not fit, how could one say that an economy is fit.

That’s certainly a very big question to the employers, hirers, the firms and the economies.

According to the latest report on depression and anxiety, issued by the World Health Organization, the total estimated number of people living with depression worldwide increased by 18.4% between 2005 and 2015 to 322 million. A major share of this group is the working population itself. Hence, this is fact that certainly these people could not give their hundred percent to the work being assigned to them.

Talking about India will make the situation clearer. According to a study conducted by W. H. O., around 200 million in India may suffer from depression i.e. one out of every five people is not mentally well.

The reason for not being in good mental state could be work pressure, financial problems, family matters, personal matters, addiction to drugs or a bad habit, or hormonal imbalance sometimes.

Realizing the growth of increasing mental health problems among the working population due to number of reasons, firms and economies should take necessary steps including promotion of healthy working environment and separate interactive counseling classes in which individuals can speak their heart out and share their problems with either professionals or their own colleagues. This will help people to be more free and happier and arise out of the ocean of sadness, depression, loneliness.

It will help in building better personal relationships with the colleagues, with family, with friends and with everyone else.

Therefore, a happier and healthier brain will be in a much better state to build a prosperous and healthy economy.

My Brain Needs You, Pal!…

Linda used to study in a law college. She was an all-rounder. She was good in academics, good in sports, good in extracurricular activities, good in student’s council. She was very famous in her campus and everybody loved her. She had a lot of friends. One day, she was chilling in the canteen with friends. During the conversation, she told them that she is seeing a therapist(psychiatrist) and BANG! All her friends became silent. Everybody escaped from the canteen one by one. Linda couldn’t figure out what was going on. Looking for an answer, she went home.
Linda was going through extra stress and anxiety, that’s why she was taking the treatment.
The next day, Linda reached her friends and tried talking to them but nobody gave her a response. They walked out in front of her. Nobody was talking to her, she was left alone. She felt so bad as she wasn’t at all used to it. She was a talkative human and everybody loved her, but now she was left all alone. This went on for a few days and then Linda stopped coming to college and to her disgrace, nobody even blinked an eye. Then, on one worst day, everybody received the news that she killed herself. Now each of her so-called friends was feeling bad and mourning on social media. But it all remained with if’s and what-ifs!..
Everyone reading this must be feeling sad right now. But it’s the truth we all know. This happens with all of us, maybe with us or we act like this to others. We leave our friends and loved ones in the time when then need us the most. When I was at home, our old classmate joined our flat and within a day or two, my roommates threw him out of the flat. He was suffering from some mental illness and everybody got scared keeping him with them. The friend who was with us for 4 years was left alone when he was ill and later he was admitted. I felt very bad when I came back. Someone really close to me was going through such illness, so I knew it very well. If we have a fever or some physical disease, then people visit us asking for our health, the family takes us to the doctor in time. But when it’s about mental health, everybody tries to avoid it. The family try to hide it, friends stay away from us when they get to know and in this mess, treatment gets late and disease takes over the person. There are many mental conditions such as depression, mania, schizophrenia, and this can happen to anyone. Yes in very few cases, it is genetical but in most of the cases, it gets triggered because of real-life events. Most of the patients get treated well and win over the disease if handled well and within time. Now many will ask me, yes you’re right but how can we help them as we don’t know anything, then why should we take the blame later getting into it. So guys remember the time before the disease when this friend stood by your side in worst situations and now it should be your turn. I feel anyone will prefer helping them rather than mourning when they’re gone.
So what can you do? Just be there for them. These diseases don’t rise in a day, they do take time. We just need to keep an eye and observe our loved ones. Anxiety, stress, overthinking, lost attention in work, lost appetite could be the symptoms. If we could catch it early, then we will win for sure and if ignore it, then it might get fatal. We just need to be there for them, boost their confidence, keep them busy, surround them with positivity and positive thoughts. Meditation plays a magnificent role in conquering these diseases. Today it’s your friend, tomorrow it might be you. Control these diseases before they start controlling your loved ones. Make brain your friend, not the enemy. Take the pledge that you won’t ignore your mental health. The most important thing, let’s heal them with love and affection and not hatred. MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT, DON’T IGNORE, HEAL YOURSELF!…

Lalitha jewellery success story

From Rags To Riches : The Inspiring Journey Of Lalithaa Jewellery Owner 'Kiran Kumar' | Wirally
lalitha jewellery in Chennai

Lalitha jewellery is owned by Mr. KiranKumar. It was first founded and established in Madras (Chennai).within no time the Lalitha Jewelry had gained the trust of its customers and reached great heights amidst very tough competition of other famous jewelries. But we have to admit that there is nothing that comes straight into our hands. Whatever we have to achieve will come to us only if we work hard and smart. This is the same thing that happened in the ejection of Lalitha Jewelry and its founder Mr.KiranKumar.

Let us now know the history of Mr.KiranKumar and the birth of Lalitha Jewellery

Mr.KiranKumar belonged to a poor family where it was very tough to make their both ends meet. He first his gold business with his mothers bangles.hhe turned those bangles into earrings and went to Madras to sell them. He started doing this when he was seven years old. By the time he as 14, he sincerely decided to earn money as he cannot see his family in such a helpless situation. The situation was like that where his family can’t take food for at least 2 times a day. At the age of 14, Mr.KiranKumar decided to change his family’s fate and decided to do gold marketing. He is the only man from his family who does gold marketing. None of his family or his ancestors has neither relation with this field nor entered this field. The only reason why Mr.KiranKumar had chosen this field is that Nellore was and is very good at gold trading.

From Rags To Riches : The Inspiring Journey Of Lalithaa Jewellery Owner 'Kiran Kumar'
Mr.Kirankumar

Mr.KiranKumar first decided to learn gold retailing. So as part of that he first joined under a Goldsmith and learnt how a gold piece will be made into a nice designed structure and later there was a doubt for him that where do all these designed pieces go and slowly started learning and digged that deeper. After he knew that he knows something about gold trades he decided to trade the Gold. All this was happened when he was 14.

At the time his mother has four gold bangles each of twelve grams. He asked his mother for those bangles and his mother without saying a single word had given him those bangles as just to make their both ends meet. Mr.Kumar had turned those bangles into earrings of 65 grams and went to Madras to sell those. That was his first earnings and he loved the magic in Gold trading and slowly gained strength and confidence over that.

In this way within 1 year he had profit of 19 Lakhs in his pocket, he had 3 cars within less than a year but he said that those cars were not for his personal use but to travel madras from Nellore to sell the gold with him and take another gold from his dealers to make that into beautiful designs.

Mr.kiran is very genuine and very good at heart which made him success in this field. After Lalitha jewelry became wide, he released an advertisement as part of promotions, which says “daabbulu evariki oorike ravu” which became very famous and bought him more good name. That advertisement touched many hearts.

Mr.Kiran never does promotions with any celebrities but only he though gained popularity and won trust of public. He is very confident about his designs and prices. He made an advertisement that says if anyone wants to make the same design of theirs with another goldsmith or want to enquire price in another showrooms, they will never stop us. We can take a photo of jewelry which is not allowed in any other showrooms, and can enquire price. He guarantees that his showroom is only the one which provides the jewelry at lowest and reasonable prices with best quality of gold.

Drinking water, or soluble chemicals.

Water, you might have known it’s value, when your are thirsty but out of water. we nearly feel like to be gonna die. For, traditional Indians, you might known it’s value when you experience sudden cutoff of water supply ,in bathroom. All of us take this important thing for granted, but if once water wants to escape from us, the screams of 1.3 billion bangs the whole world. You may wonder, why only Indians scream …….ok, before you wanna know about it, also think ; Is your drinking water safe?, hey!..don’t tell that, i’m alright from the time i have born, no problem with drinking water.

Here, i just would like to bring up some most fundamental aspects of our life, i wanna recall we aren’t so much safe and being effected by things, but we never realize until they blasts a bomb in our life. One such is, drinking water; seems to be pure in color, no visible dust particles to our naked eye, but they have already been carrying invisible toxic substances with it, and ready to destroy us slowly after getting inside of us. Most of you might not care this, and stamps this as a boring story, but never forget; your taking some chemicals at every time you have a sip, and leaving your organs as a playground for the toxics that have gone inside you, along with the water you intake.

You better know the water sewage infrastructure in india, even some have been setup for namesake. So, the only option left for us to take care of ourselves. we cannot stop the flow of untreated chemicals and industrial waste into water. sometimes, There rises a campaigns and goes to sleep within no time.

Then, how to get a solution for this problem and to have a safe drinking water. The one thing is to setup water treatment plants by forming as a community, or to use water purifiers at home, leaving no space to compromise with it’s quality, Just even getting into debt; in long run saves you from unsolvable threats. But the bitter fact is, the cost of water purification is too high. But sadly we were pretending to believe the low level mechanisms and being fooled. One such example is, at rural areas or some public water suppliers , can get a 10 litres of water for just 2 rupees, whereas the premium water brands like tata provides the purified mineral water bottle of 1 litre for 20 rupees. This scenario can make us understand , how we are being pretended that low filtered water as mineral. The looters have just redefined the meaning of name itself.

we have been facing many health issues, one of the most important is, elders are facing problems regarding bone strength and losing immunity at very mid ages. This was an indirect effect of consuming water, because there is a clear picture of releasing pollutants from industries into water, but we confine ourself it might be because of age. This gonna definitely show impact on generations, if not resolved our life span keeps on reducing untill we open our eyes.

There is a huge need for communities to come forward and have awareness about the fundamental thing of our life, and come up with a feasible solutions.

Drugs: Dependency to Despondency

Today when you Google the definition of DRUGS, you come across a chemical, used as medicine, although illegal, taken by people to feel pleasant and excited feelings. And somewhere defined as stressbuster to deal with anxiety. Is it so? To answer it let’s look at an case;

Some time back, a friend of Shruti died tragically young. He was a pillar of the community, and Shruti was honored to learn that he wanted her to play oboe [an instrument] at his memorial service which would be attended by hundreds of people. Although Shruti had performed in countless concerts filled with thousands of people, but the thought of performing at funeral of such an honored man was nerve cracking compounded with the fact she herself going to mourn for her friend. But in the end, she was able to gather up the courage to play beautifully and received dozens of compliments after performing. Her one friend asked about how she handled her nerves. She honestly told him that she just didn’t know and just hope for the best. In contrary to this, he said for such high pressure performances, he always uses beta blocker- a prescription medication for clinical anxiety.

But certainly we wouldn’t even faulted Shruti if she had sought out for such prescription of drug when she learned about her friend request to perform at his funeral. It’s an exceptional situation and if some medication could help, wouldn’t be it better for all concerned. But if musicians routinely depend upon such for every performance where would it stop? Should we even prescribe such medications to students who have their studies and career pressure? What if a professor says he/she needs to take modafinil [a drug] to overcome stress and for pacing his/her career? Where will it going to end? One’s occasional boost might become chemical dependency in near future.

What if everyone was taking the pills to keep up their pace and the one who restrained to such, wouldn’t it be cheating to such person? Definitely, yes. The main problem youth today deals because of their prospective. They believe that drugs aren’t causing any harm rather they make them feel better but deep inside its true that their happiness for today will be their addiction tomorrow. Even if drugs with ‘no side effects’ are made, after sometime their primary usage purpose gonna become their side effects in form of dependency. You are going to take that pill for every task, that dependency itself is the side effect.

Imagine a scenario where there are no side effects associated with usage of drugs, cognitive and physical both, so we really improve our efficiency or we even work more than others. Then, Think of what we accomplish! If a person’s life becomes all work, no down time, no relaxation, no stress, no interactions, ever I’m not so sure that’s a life even worth living? It changes your whole personality and even disturbs routine with impacting your caliber. And you may not be even in position of realizing it.

WHO WILL DECIDE THE IDEAL AGE

Many girls who are married off before they turn 18 or are forced into early marriages are made to leave school, depriving them of their right to education and future independence. Child brides are also more likely to experience domestic violence.
Because young girls who are married off are more likely to have children while still physically immature, they are at higher risk of dying from pregnancy and childbirth complications, and their babies have a reduced chance of survival too, according to the World Health Organization.

Child brides who have children may also be psychologically unprepared and ill-equipped to become mothers at such a young age. By robbing girls of a chance to learn, grow, and fully realize their potential, child marriage systematically disempowers them. It ensures that they remain dependent on others all their lives, strips them of their agency, makes them vulnerable to abuse, and can trap them in a cycle of poverty. In cultures that do not see girls and women as potential wage earners, they’re may be considered a financial burden to the family. In these cases, families living in poverty who have several children may arrange a marriage for their child to reduce their economic burden: One less daughter to take care of means one less mouth to feed and one less education to pay for. Girls may also married off to offset debts or settle conflicts, effectively acting as a substitute for money.
Both early teen marriage and dropping out of high school have historically been associated with a variety of negative outcomes, including higher poverty rates throughout life. Are these negative outcomes due to pre-existing differences, or do they represent the causal effect of marriage and schooling choices? The negative outcomes associated with early marriage and dropping out of high school have the potential to affect not only the individual making the decision but also her children and the rest of society. For example, a high divorce rate combined with low wages and a larger family size increases the number of children living in poverty and receiving state assistance. Prime minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of 74th Independence Day while addressing the nation, stated that a committee had been set up to reconsider the minimum age for marriage of girls. While every decision has its consequences, this too has its own. The change in law seems like a good initiative and would bring about change, but, not everything is all rainbows. The decision has split the government as for some; it sounds like a step to reduce malnutrition, control the population and increase education amongst women; for others, it gets the sums wrong. Some believe that it would help women to exercise legal powers incase of marriage below the age of 21. Others ween that this would increase the number of child marriages as girls getting married between the age group 18-21 would add to the number of child brides. Continuing the argument, it is also evident that premarital sex is just as much of a taboo as sex education in India. Thus, reconsidering the minimum age for marriage of girls is feared to deny unmarried pregnant teenagers to get proper healthcare facilities.

TO THE CLASS OF 2020

College Graduation is a huge milestone in anyone’s life. College graduation is one of life’s last clean transitions, a final passage from adolescence to adulthood that is predictable in ways other transitions rarely are. Relationships end with breakups or death, jobs often end with quitting or firing, but college is one of the only things in life that ends with a fresh start. Except when it doesn’t. College graduation is often marked by an adjustment period, as students leave the comforts of campus to find their way in the raw wilderness of the job market. But this year’s graduates are staggering into a world that is in some ways unrecognizable. But graduating in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic will have enduring implications on the Class of 2020: for their memories, their earning power, and their view of what it means to have a functional society. For these young adults, the pandemic represents not just a national crisis but also a defining moment.Even when colleges are trying their best to give students a memorable farewell, an event that they have looked forward to during their college years many don’t know if they will ever have a chance at bidding their crucial years a heartfelt goodbye. The end of college marks an important turn in the lives of students, who are finally eager to carve a place in the world. The farewell is an important milestone in this journey as everything culminates to this very day. Even before COVID-19, the Class of 2020 came of age at a time of fear and uncertainty. Born largely in 1997 and 1998—among the oldest of Gen Z—the Class of 2020. For the Class of 2020, COVID-19’s lasting impact may be determined by what happens next. If the rising cohort of young workers are left to fend for themselves, mass youth unemployment could lead to permanent disillusionment or widespread despair.

A forceful, effective response that invests in the rising generation of American talent could restore their faith in the system.
It’s not clear to the Class of 2020 how the pandemic will play out. They just know it will change their livesThe Class of 2020 hugged their closest friends and mourned their lost semester, but scattered back home without so much as a goodbye to many people they’d lived with for years. Acquaintances who laughed in hallways or shared inside jokes in seminars simply disappeared. Fraternities and sororities canceled their formals and philanthropy events, attempting Zoom happy hours that didn’t come close to the real thing. For some couples, casual hookups quickly escalated into long-distance relationships. Others quietly packed up their feelings for college crushes and left without saying a word. Instead of graduating into their future lives, many Class of 2020 seniors feel like they’ve gone backward. Graduating into a bad economy can affect everything from future earnings to long-term health and happiness. All of this—the forgone memories, the abrupt goodbyes, the lost opportunities—will stay with the Class of 2020 forever. They know that the pandemic will shape their futures, even if it’s not yet clear exactly how. The pandemic has marked the end of one phase for this unlucky cohort. The recovery could mark the beginning of another.

Skills or Job what is more important

we always tend to ignore this topic ,everyone is worrying about getting the job but there are very few people that actually focus on the skills. I have seen people just focusing on getting job, whether they are interested or not on the particular profile they just apply without even seeing the job profile. I know Job is important but knowledge is more important,People nowadays fails to understand this simple difference.

Okay! let us understand this, why there is unemployment in India because nobody wants to pay a person who don’t possess knowledge or skill set. There are 100 of engineering colleges in our country.Ever wonder why they are not getting jobs, because students do not focus on practical knowledge they do not focus on what they actually know,If i say i am engineer but i do not know how to solve simple mathematical equation who will hire me?. Even students with more than 8 cg pa are not getting jobs the reason is they just mug up the things and get marks. So just getting marks is not important you must have that skill on your hand.

I have seen students of my batch cheating in order to clear the first round of any campus drive they believe if they will clear the first round they will eventually clear all the rounds and get hired but they totally fails to understand that when you cheat in any exam whether it is for job or anything you are cheating with yourself you are not accepting the fact that you do not know this skill instead focus on gaining knowledge if you will have knowledge any company will hire you.Companies focus on your problem solving abilities work on projects get that skill and then apply.

It mostly happens during on campus drives that students cheats and become so desperate in getting jobs just because there friends are getting placed but they do not sit and understand that this is not the solution focus on what you do not know think for solutions that where you are lacking. But instead they become desperate they sit on any drive even if it is paying less with 2 years of bond, just think settling for less just because you are desperate is not the solution. Think getting 3 lac per year living in a metropolitan city will do no good, you would not save enough money to provide support to your family and moreover you will be stuck for 2 years there will be no development and no skill.

The most important thing if you cheat and get hired what will you do in the training session, companies tests your knowledge then you will be kicked out and here you are with no knowledge, no job and no confidence.

so focus on yourself even if your friends are getting jobs,do not become insecure set your goal for big instead work on your skill set, if you say i m a content writer showcase your work do internship regarding that.If you are from engineering department work on projects showcase that on linked in, Hr’s are searching for talents through linked in if your work is good they will approach you.

Again just run after knowledge not after money.Money will come if you have knowledge, otherwise you will end up nowhere. So skills set is the most important thing you can have Think big!!.

Work From Home – New Normal!…

I was working in an IT multinational company. I used to work daily for 9-10 hours in my office. Come by 9am, get the work done, have lunch and teatime with colleagues was my daily routine. We used to go for a trek or clubs on weekends. So basically I was very happy with my life. Then one not so fine day, a human(inhuman) from china had cravings for raw bat meat and he gifted the whole world this pandemic.
As the number of cases in india were increasing, everybody was rushing back to homes. As they say, “trouble reminds you of your home”. So I also rushed to my home. It took me 1-2 days to adjust with the change of place. Then the very next day, I received an email from company asking for work from home. Firstly, I felt frustrated, because all my mechanical branch friends were having a proper holiday but here I was, working from home. But later, I understood the fact that keeping ourselves safe from this disease is one thing but earning for the family is must.
For first I was just frustrated with my WFH. The internet connection was poor at times. So I had to install new WiFi service. I used to work all day long. But the plus point was the homemade food. I always missed the food made by my mother when I was away. But now I could have it any time of the day. After few days, I was enjoying the WFH life. I could do my job and be with my family at the same time. After my graduation, I never had enough time to sit with my parents and have some words, freely. But this situation brought us closer. Now we sit together every day after dinner and chitchat till we fall asleep.
But nothing could stop me from concentrating on my work. I kept on working hard, finishing the assigned tasks in time, discussing with seniors, guiding juniors. I worked as I used to when at the office. Even the company was appreciating my efforts and it felt so good, a feeling of satisfaction. After few days, I even got a promotion. WFH was a new way to live life but now it became new normal for me.

“Those who recover from infection also should follow COVID-appropriate behaviours”

More than 4.5 crore tests have been conducted till date, taking India to the second position globally in terms of cumulative testing. A record number of 11.72 lakh tests have been done in the last 24 hours. This apart, around 29.70 lakh patients have recovered till date. Another record has been set on Wednesday (September 2, 2020) with the recovery of 68,584 patients which is the highest single day recovery. This has been stated by Shri Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a press briefing on the actions taken, preparedness and updates on COVID-19, held at National Media Centre today. In an important development of the bygone week, Ministry of Home Affairs has issued the guidelines for Unlock 4.0, further stated the Health Secretary.

Speaking about the exponential increase in testing, the Health Secretary pointed out that the present record has been achieved starting from just 10,000 tests around the second week of April. Similarly, the number of recovered patients is also on the rise. Presently, when there are 8,15,538 active cases in the country, the count of recovered patients is 3.6 times of the total active cases. Shri Bhushan further stated, even as the number of infected persons is rising, India having 2972 cases per million population stands amongst countries having lowest cases per million population. The global average is 3359 cases per million population.  India has recorded 49 deaths per million population, which is also amongst the lowest in the world.

The Health Secretary also shared information about state-level week-on-week average daily active cases trajectory. He said, 5 states, namely, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu account for more than 62 percent of the active cases. Maharashtra accounts for almost 24.77% of the active cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 12.64% cases and then Karnataka with 11.58% of the active cases. As per data received from these 5 states on Wednesday (September 2, 2020), Maharashtra has recorded a 6.8% decrease in the number of active cases over a period of three weeks. Starting from an average of more than 2 lakh active cases in the week falling between August 13-19, it decreased to around 1.66 lakh active cases between August 20-26, and then was around 1.86 lakh in between August 27-September 2, 2020. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh recorded almost 13.7% decrease in the average number of active cases over the last three weeks. Karnataka recorded almost 16.1% decrease in active cases, Tamil Nadu recorded almost 23.9% decrease and Uttar Pradesh recorded almost 17.1% decrease in the number of active cases in the same period. Again, 5 states account for 70.15% of COVID-19 related deaths that have occurred in the country. These are Maharashtra (accounting for 37.39% of deaths), Tamil Nadu (11.16% COVID-19 deaths), Karnataka (8.83% COVID-19 deaths), Delhi (6.65% COVID-19 deaths) and Andhra Pradesh (6.12% COVID-19 deaths). Again, the average daily case fatality trajectory over the past three weeks in these states show that only Karnataka and Delhi has recorded an increase in the case fatality trajectory. Over the past three weeks (August 13-19, August 20-26 and August 27-September 2), Andhra Pradesh recorded a decrease in fatalities by 4.5%, Maharashtra recorded a 11.5% decrease and Tamil Nadu showed a 18.2% decrease in fatalities. While Karnataka recorded a 9.6% increase in fatalities over this period, Delhi recorded a 50% surge in fatalities over the past three weeks. The number of active cases has also increased in Delhi over the past few days, for which Union Home Affairs Ministry is actively engaging with the Delhi Government to take necessary action. The Health Ministry tracks cases on a daily, weekly and cumulative basis and these data are shared with states so that every state and UT can decide upon their strategy based on this information.

In reply to another media query, Shri Bhushan said, “Although the cumulative number of testing has increased, positivity rate remains 7.20%. The Government has adopted a graded approach to unlock and open up various economic activities. Prior to this, the Government has ensured all the pre-requisites are in place. It has been ensured that the testing capacity is adequate, clear-cut guidelines of standard clinical treatment protocol, hospital infrastructure is enhanced with adequate number of ICU beds, isolation beds and oxygen beds. All these have been firmed up, shared with states and only then, the Government has gone in for a graded opening of the economy. At the end of the day, the Government firmly believes that while lives are important, livelihoods are equally important.”

In reply to another query, the Health Secretary said, testing data will show that Rapid Antigen Tests were not available in the months of March and April and then maximum was RT-PCR tests. Presently, certain states like Tamil Nadu’s cumulative testing data shows that more than 90% are RT-PCR tests. However, there are states where optimal capacity of RT-PCR test is not being utilized. The Health Ministry has drawn their attention to the fact that they do have an installed capacity of conducting more RT-PCR tests and hence they need to scale it up. There are states where the RT-PCR, TRUENAT and CB-NAAT testing capacity is limited. A public health manager cannot be satisfied with limited testing in containment zones and buffer zones. ICMR’s guidelines clearly lay down that Rapid Antigen Tests are ideal screening tests for densely populated areas, containment and buffer zones. So, these tests are being used in those areas, stated the Health Secretary. DG, ICMR stated, WHO has lauded India for use of Rapid Antigen Tests in a calibrated and distributive manner.

In reply to a query on sero-survey, DG, ICMR stated, 50 out of 70 districts have completed the second round of sero-survey. The results of the entire country’s sero-survey should be available within two weeks.

In reply to a media query on attaining immunity after recovering from COVID-19 infection, the Health Secretary replied that various scientific studies across the world suggest that a person may possess antibodies from 5-6 months to many years. Stating this, Shri Bhushan also stated that those who recover from the infection should also follow the social distancing norms. The DG, ICMR, Prof. (Dr.) Balram Bhargava stated, it is a new disease and hence, no definite answer can now be given on the duration of immunity. In this connection, DG, ICMR, also stated that immunity against respiratory viral diseases is short-lived and does not last up to a year. Speaking on PLACID’s trial to assess the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma conducted over 450 patients conducted across 39 institutions in India, the DG, ICMR stated, final results have been compiled and communicated and may be declared this week.

Text of Prime Minister’s Special Key Note Address at US-ISPF US-India Summit 2020

Distinguished guests in India and USA,

Namaste,

It is wonderful to see US-ISPF bring together a diverse range of people for the US India Summit 2020. The work ofthe US-ISPF in bringing India and USA closer is commendable.

I have known John Chambers for many years now. His affection towards India is very strong. A few years ago he was awarded the ‘Padma Shri’.

Friends,

The theme for this yearis a relevant one – Navigating New Challenges. When the year 2020 began, did anybody imagine this is how it would pan out? A global pandemic has impacted everyone. It is testing:our resilience, our public health systems, our economic systems.

The current situation demands a fresh mind set.A mind set where the approach to development is human centric. Where there isa spirit of cooperationbetween everyone.

Friends,

While looking at the way ahead we should keep our focus on- ramping up our capacities, securing the poor and future proofing our citizens. This is the path India is taking. India was among the first in creating a responsive system of lockdowns. India was among the first to advocate the use of masks and face coverings as a public health measure. We were also among the earliest to create public awareness campaigns about social distancing. In record time, medical infrastructure was scaled up- be it Covid hospitals, ICU capacities and more. Starting from one testing lab in January, we now have around sixteen hundred labs across the country.

The outcome of these efforts has been that a country with 1.3 billion people and limited resources has one of the lowest death rates per million in the world. The recovery rate is also steadily rising. I am happy that our business community, in particular small business been pro-active. Starting from almost nothing, they made us the second largest PPE kits manufacturer in the world.

This is in line with India’s spirit of challenging the challenge to emerge stronger. In the last few months the nation has battled Covid, and other crisis such as floods, 2-2 cyclones,locust attack. But, it has only made the people’s resolve stronger.

Friends,

Through the entire COVID-19 period and the lockdown, the Government of India was clear on one thing- the poor have to be protected. The ‘Pradhan MantriGaribKalyanYojana’ for India’s poor is among the largest support system seen anywhere globally. Free food grainis being provided to 800 million people. This scheme operates for 8 months.800 million people means:More than double of USA’s population. Free cooking gas is being provided to around 80 million families. Cash support has been provided to around 345 million farmers and needy people. The scheme has given much-needed employment for migrant workers by creating almost 200 million person-days of work.

Friends,

The pandemic has impacted several things. But it has not impacted the aspirations and ambitions of 1.3 billion Indians. In the recent months, there have been far-reaching reforms. These are makingbusiness easier and red-tapism lesser. Work is actively underway on the world’s largest housing program. The renewable energy infrastructure is being expanded.Rail, road and air connectivity is being boosted. Our country is creating a unique digital model to build a national digital health mission. We are using the best of fin-tech to provide banking, credit, digital payments and insurance to millions. All these initiatives are being taken using world-class technology and global best practices.

Friends,

This pandemic has also shown the world that the decision on developing global supply chains should be based not only on costs. They should also be based on trust. Along with affordability of geography, companies are now also looking for reliability and policy stability. India is the location which has all of these qualities.

As a result, India is also becoming one of the leading attractions for foreign investment. Be it America or the Gulf, be it Europe or Australia-the world believes in us. We have received over 20 billion dollars of foreign investment flows during this year. Google, Amazon and Mubadala Investments have announced long-term plans for India.

Friends,

India offers a transparent and predictable tax regime. Our system encourages and supports honest tax payers. Our GST is a unified, fully IT enabled indirect tax system. Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code has reduced risk for the entire financial system. Our Comprehensive labour reforms will reduce compliance burden for employers. It will also provide social security protection to the workers.

Friends,

The importance of investment in driving growth cannot be overstated. And we are tackling both demand and supply side of it. By making India one of the lowest tax destinations in the world and with further incentive for new manufacturing units.Mandatory e- platform based ‘faceless assessment’ will go a long way in helping citizens. So will the Tax-payers charter. The continued regulatory reforms in bond markets ensure improved ease of access for investors. There are tax exemptions to ‘Sovereign Wealth Funds’ and ‘Pension Funds’ for Infrastructure investment.FDI into India rose by 20 percent in 2019. This when global FDI inflows fell by 1 percent. This shows the success of our FDI regime. All of the above steps will ensure a brighter and more prosperous tomorrow. They will also contribute to a stronger global economy.

Friends,

1.3 billion Indians have embarked on one mission- to make an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ or self-reliant India. ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ merges the local with the global. It ensures India’s strengths act as a global force multiplier. Time and again, India has shown that our goal is global good. Despite our large local needs, we did not shy away from our global responsibility. The responsibility of being the world’s leading producer of generic medicines. We ensured constant supplies to the world. We are also at the fore-front of research on the vaccine for Covid-19. A self-reliant and peaceful India ensures a better world.

‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ is about transforming India from being just a passive market to an active manufacturing hub at the heart of global value chains.

Friends,

The road further ahead is full of opportunities. These opportunities are in the public and private sector. They cover core economic sectors as well as the social sectors. Recent sectors that have opened include Coal, Mining, Railways, Defence, Space, and Atomic Energy.

Production Linked Incentive schemes have been launched for- mobile & electronics, medical devices, pharma sectors – they have been well received. Such schemes are being planned for other Champion sectors too. Reforms in agriculture marketing and 14 billion US Dollars agriculture financing facility bring several opportunities.

Friends,

For challenges in India, you have a Government that believes in delivering results. A government for which Ease of living is as important as the Ease of doing business. You are looking at a young country with 65 percent population less than 35 years old. You are looking at an aspirational country that has decided to take the nation to new heights. This at a time when we mark 75 years of independence. You are looking at a country with political stability and policy continuity. You are looking at a country with commitment to democracy and diversity.
