The Transformative Power of Voice Training: Why Anyone Can Improve Their Singing

Daily writing prompt
What is the last thing you learned?

Introduction

Have you ever found yourself humming along to your favorite song and wishing you could sing it better? Perhaps you’ve been told you’re “tone-deaf” or feel hopeless about your singing abilities. The truth is, anyone can improve with the right voice training, and this article will explain why. Voice training is not just for aspiring professionals; it’s for anyone who wants to sing with confidence, accuracy, and joy.

Whether you dream of singing on stage, joining a choir, or just impressing friends at karaoke, voice training can help you unlock your vocal potential. Thanks to advancements in technology, training your voice has never been more accessible. From apps that provide real-time feedback to structured courses, there are countless ways to improve. In this article, we’ll explore the key benefits of voice training, the best formats to choose, and why consistency is the real secret to progress.

Hitting the Right Notes: A Skill Anyone Can Learn

Hitting notes accurately might seem daunting, especially if you’ve struggled in the past. However, just like any physical skill, it can be trained. The ability to match pitch is not an innate talent but a skill that develops with practice. Voice training focuses on ear training, pitch matching exercises, and muscle memory to help you hit the right notes and intervals consistently.

Thanks to recent advancements in technology, voice training has become more interactive and user-friendly. Many apps now offer visual feedback and recording features to help you assess your pitch accuracy.  Unlike traditional methods, these tools gamify the process, making practice feel more like a game than a chore. By turning practice into a series of small, achievable challenges, they help you stay motivated and track your progress.

One such online voice training service, Singing Carrots, has shared data showing that consistent practice—even just 2-3 days a week—can lead to noticeable improvements in a few weeks. According to their data, users often manage to hit one semitone or even a whole tone higher after just 4-6 weeks of practice. While we can’t guarantee that you’ll see the same rapid progress with any online voice training, it’s worth noting that Singing Carrots goes a step further by integrating theory explanations with visual feedback. This approach helps users understand why they hit or miss certain notes. At the very least, their data suggests that this method is effective. You can explore their program here.

Expanding Your Vocal Range: It’s Like Going to the Gym for Your Voice

One of the most sought-after benefits of voice training is expanding your vocal range. Whether you aspire to hit those soaring high notes or develop a richer, lower tone, voice lessons can help. Just like going to the gym to build muscle, expanding your range requires consistent practice. Effective singing exercises that focus on breath controldiaphragmatic support, and resonance can gradually help you unlock new notes. Incorporating fun exercises can also make the process more enjoyable, helping you stick to your routine.

Voice training not only improves range but also enhances vocal agility—the ability to switch between notes smoothly and accurately. It helps you understand and navigate through different vocal registers—chest voice, head voice, and mix voice. By mastering these registers and practicing appropriate pitches, you can sing higher and lower notes with more control and less strain. Learning to manage vowel sounds and articulation effectively can also refine your technique, ensuring that each note sounds clear and intentional.

Regular practice is crucial here. Similar to a workout routine, sticking to your exercises and keeping track of your progress will help you see results. Apps and platforms like Singing Carrots make it easy to keep track of progress by offering instant feedback and progress-tracking tools. By setting small, incremental goals—like adding one note to your upper or lower range every few weeks—you can stay motivated. These platforms also provide pitch analyses and even pitch challenges to help you refine your skills over time.

For those preparing for music grade exams or aiming to sing at advanced levels, structured voice training can make a significant difference. Tools that offer effective pitch detection and immediate feedback can help you correct mistakes in real-time, making your practice sessions more productive. By following a systematic approach, you can move beyond just hitting the right notes to achieving great singing with confidence and precision.

Boosting Confidence Through Voice Training

Voice training doesn’t just enhance your vocal skills—it also builds confidence. As you learn to hit the right tune and master diction and articulation, you’ll naturally feel more assured in your singing. This newfound confidence can extend beyond music, positively impacting other areas of your life such as public speaking, social interactions, and overall self-esteem. Developing a sense of harmony and mastering prosody can also help you express emotions more effectively, making your singing more compelling and authentic.

The act of learning and improving is itself a confidence booster. Each time you hit a challenging note, navigate a pitch challenge, or master a tricky exercise suggested by professional vocal coaches, it reinforces the idea that you’re capable of growth. Practicing in a singing class environment or using platforms that offer backing tracks and note games can make your practice sessions feel more dynamic and engaging.

Online platforms provide progress tracking and milestone achievements, helping you see just how far you’ve come. They also incorporate suggested famous singing riffs and exercises at appropriate levels, making it easier to set and reach realistic goals. This tangible evidence of progress can be incredibly motivating, encouraging you to keep practicing. For those who aspire to reach advanced levels or even become professional singers, these tools offer a clear path forward.

By following a structured practice routine that includes diaphragmatic breathing and mastering different vocal registers, you can transform your singing skills and your self-confidence. Whether you’re preparing for singing lessons with a professional singing teacher or working independently, voice training can help you achieve a sense of perfection and control in your performances.

Choosing the Right Format for Your Voice Training

Voice training isn’t one-size-fits-all. Depending on your goals, budget, and schedule, different formats might work better for you. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose:

  1. Online Courses: Best for those who want a structured approach with video lessons and clear learning paths. Ideal if you like self-paced learning but need some guidance.
  2. Apps: Great for busy schedules. They offer gamified learning with visual feedback, making practice both convenient and engaging.
  3. In-Person Lessons: Recommended if you thrive with direct feedback and personalized coaching. Working with a teacher can accelerate your progress but can be more costly.
  4. Self-Study: Perfect for independent learners who enjoy exploring techniques and exercises on their own. However, it requires more discipline to stay on track.

Regardless of the format you choose, the key to effective voice training is regular practice. Consistency is more important than how much time you spend in each session. Even short, focused practice sessions a few times a week can yield significant results over time.

The Importance of Consistency and Practice

Consistency is the cornerstone of effective voice training. Just like building any other skill, small but regular efforts produce the best results. Setting aside time for practice, whether it’s 15 minutes a day or a few focused sessions each week, makes a big difference. Voice training apps that offer reminders and streak features can help you maintain a routine.

It’s also important to measure your progress. Keeping a practice journal or using progress-tracking features on apps can show you how much you’ve improved, which in turn boosts your motivation. Voice Training Platforms not only track your pitch accuracy and range but also provide feedback on areas that need improvement, helping you practice smarter, not just harder.

Conclusion

Voice training is for everyone—whether you’re a complete beginner who’s been told you can’t sing or an experienced vocalist looking to refine your skills. By focusing on consistent practice, choosing the right format for your learning style, and leveraging modern tools that provide real-time feedback, you can unlock your vocal potential.

So why wait? Start your voice training journey today and discover just how far your voice can go!

Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, be sure to check out the venue compatibility and requirements before making any final decisions. Some venues have very specific rules about what kind of music is allowed or how long each performer can play.

Drive in the Rain

“When it rains, it pours.”

A statement that holds a lot of emotion during rainy season in India. You never know how much will it rain. Sometimes it pours, sometime it just gives a short peek and passes by for us to enjoy the rainbow. In India, power cuts, roads filled with water, unseen manholes are opened, people driving in hurry to reach their destination, couples in love sharing hot food to the sides of the road, people removing helmets to feel the strong connection to earth, some standing by for it to pass and many more.

As a bike rider, I enjoy driving during the time it rains. I don’t care if it pours or drizzles, there is something about that moment that holds me close to it. The smell of petrichor, the slow drive, the sound of rain hitting the skin, and music just makes this meal heavenly. The destination may not be fulfilling but it’s the journey that fills me with a sense of joy.

As a person, I connect with mother earth on a deeper level during rain. It gives me a feeling of belonging to a deeper purpose. Mother Earth causes rain to hydrate herself and add water to it’s lovely citizens. As a student, it’s my best bet if the college would be cancelled. The sound of rain on a Monday morning always lifts my spirits because I knew school/college would be cancelled. Now, the same rain helps me find peace from the worldly pains.

Bauls of Bengal: The Devoted Folk Singers

Parvathy Baul

Introduction

The Bauls of Bengal are an order of wandering folk singers that have kept their philosophies alive for centuries. But modern demands threaten to overtake their simple, itinerant lifestyles. Now, an audio-visual record is being taken to keep their vocal traditions alive for generations yet to come.

Bauls : Who They Are

In the Bengal region of South Asia, however, itinerant mystics are still welcomed widely, respected for their sincere but simple way of life, and rewarded for the brilliance of their performances, sharing memorable poetry and music, mainly with rural communities, much as they have done for several centuries. These are the Bauls of Bengal – a group that pursue a life of self-denial and meditative discipline, committed to a belief that ‘the ultimate’ existence is to be found, not so much through rituals in holy places, but in every ‘self’ and are enthusiastic to share this passion almost exclusively through their art. Bauls belong to an unorthodox devotional tradition, influenced by Hinduism, Buddhism, Vaishnavism and Sufi Islam, yet distinctly different from them. Bauls neither identify themselves with any organized religion nor with the caste system, special deities, temples or sacred places. They share only one belief —that God is hidden within the heart of man and neither priest, prophet, nor the ritual of any organized religion will help one to find Him there. To them we are all a gift of divine power and the body is a temple, music being the path to connect to that power.

Historic Background

The word Baul comes from the Sanskrit word “Batul,” which means mad and is used for someone who is possessed or crazy for God. The Bauls are wandering minstrels of West Bengal and Bangladesh, whose song and dance reflect the joy, love and longing for mystical union with the Divine. The Baul tradition of mendicancy – ascetics who entertain in exchange for subsistence – has ancient origins, and seems to have thrived well before the rule of the great Mughal Emperors from the 16th to 18th centuries, a period during which Islam spread eastwards from the Middle East to Bengal and beyond. Originally the district of Birbhum in West Bengal was the seat of all Baul activity. Later, the Baul domain stretched to Tripura in the north, Bangladesh in the east, and parts of Bihar and Orissa in the west and south respectively. In Bangladesh, the districts of Chittagong, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Tangyl are famous for Bauls. Bauls from far off places come to participate in the Kenduli Mela and the Shantiniketan Poush Mela –the two most important fairs held in West Bengal for Baul music.

The Characteristics and Attires

They can often be identified by their distinctive clothes and musical instruments. It’s easy to identify a Baul singer from his uncut, often coiled hair, saffron robe (alkhalla), a necklace of beads made of basil (tulsi) stems. Bauls use a number of musical instruments: the most common is the ektara, a one-stringed “plucked drum” drone instrument, carved from the epicarp of a gourd, and made of bamboo and goatskin. Others include the dotara, a long-necked fretless lute (while the name literally means “two stringed” it usually has four metal strings) made of the wood of a jackfruit or neem tree; besides khamak one-headed drum with a string attached to it which is plucked. The only difference from ektara is that no bamboo is used to stretch the string, which is held by one hand, while being plucked by another. Drums like the duggi a small hand-held earthen drum, and dhol and khol; small cymbals called kartal and manjira, and the bamboo flute are also used. Ghungur and nupur are anklets with bells that ring while the person wearing them dances.

Lalan Fakir

Lalan Fakir : The Legend of Baul Movement

Lalan Fakir (1774 -1890), the greatest of all Bauls, continued to compose and sing songs for decades without ever stopping to correct them or put them on paper. He composed a thousand songs, of which just 600 can be traced. It was only after his death that people thought of collecting and compiling his repertoire. He rejected the division of society into communities, protesting and satirising religious fundamentalism of all kinds. Lalan’s metaphysical lyrics raise a basic question – that if there is a single creator then why so many religions exist ? This is a pertinent problem in today’s world; we all know that the different ‘Gods’ have created acrimony between races and sects and as of today this concept of different ‘Gods’ remains the most decisive divisive force on planet Earth. His most famous song quoted, “Khanchar Bhitor Ochin Pakhi Kemne Ase Jay”. In 2004, Lalan was ranked 12 in BBC’s poll of the Greatest Bengali of all time.

Baul Philosophy

Bauls do not believe in the pious ‘other world’ and most of the times deny the presence of super powers. Looking from a different angle it can be said that according to them, ‘God’ resides in each human being and it is for the human being to realise this truth, the human beings are the best exponents of spirituality ever to tread on this Earth. Nowhere did this philosophy leave its imprint more powerfully than on the work of Rabindranath Tagore, who talked of Bauls in a number of speeches in Europe in the 1930s. An essay based on these was compiled into his English book ‘The religion of man’. An important part of Baul philosophy is “Deha tatta”, a spirituality related to the body rather than the mind. They seek the divinity in human beings. Often, the lyrics philosophize on love and stress to remain unattached and unconsumed by the pleasures of life even while enjoying them. Baul music celebrates celestial love, but does this in very earthy terms.

Purna Das Baul

International Connection

Referred to as the Baul Samrat, Purna Das Baul, introduced Baul songs to the West during an eight-months tour of the US in 1965 with stars like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Paul Robeson, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, and all. Dubbed “India’s Bob Dylan” by the New York Times in 1984, Purna Das Baul has played with Bob Marley, Gordon Lightfoot and Mahalia Jackson and the likes. Currently another version of Baul called the folk fusion also called baul rock is also greatly accepted by the audience, especially in West Bengal. Kartik Das Baul has taken baul to different heights by associating himself with folk fusion. This type of baul was brought into the world of music by ‘Bolepur Bluez’, which was world’s first folk fusion band. There are also the Western Bauls in America and Europe under the spiritual direction of Lee Lozowick, a student of Yogi Ramsuratkumar. Their music is quite different (rock /gospel/ blues) but the essence of the spiritual practices of the East is well maintained.

Conclusion

The tradition is so integral to Bengal that it’s hard to think of Bengali culture sans the Bauls. They’re not only an intrinsic part of Bengal’s music, they’re in the mud and air of this land and in the mind and blood of its people. The spirit of the Bauls is the spirit of Bengal– ever-flowing in its society and culture, literature and art, religion and spirituality.

Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation

Present in this special event are Durga Jasraj ji, Shaarangdev Pandit ji, Neeraj Jaitly ji, co-founder of Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation, all the musicians and artists of the country and the world, ladies and gentlemen!

Music, ‘sura’ and ‘svara’ are considered immortal in our country. It is said that the energy of ‘svara’, as well as its effect, is also immortal. Therefore, the eminent soul, who has lived music throughout his life and that has been echoing in every particle of his existence, remains immortal in the energy and consciousness of the Universe even after leaving the body.

The performances by musicians and artists in this program and the way Pandit Jasraj ji’s ‘sura’ is echoing here gives an impression that Pandit Jasraj ji is present with us in this consciousness of music.

I am glad that all of you are carrying forward his classical legacy and preserving it for generations and centuries to come. Today is also the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Pandit Jasraj ji. Today, I congratulate all of you on this innovative initiative of establishing Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation. I especially extend my best wishes to Durga Jasraj ji and Pandit Shaarangdev ji for taking upon the responsibility to dedicate your father’s inspiration, his penance, to the entire world. I too have had the privilege of meeting and listening to Pandit Jasraj ji many times.

Friends,

Music is a very complex subject. I am not very well-versed with it, but the comprehensive knowledge that our sages have given about ‘svara’ and ‘naada” is amazing in itself. It is written in our Sanskrit texts –

नाद रूपः स्मृतो ब्रह्मा, नाद रूपो जनार्दनः।

नाद रूपः पारा शक्तिः, नाद रूपो महेश्वरः॥

That is, the forces that give birth to the Universe and maintain and govern it are the forms of sound. This ability to feel the cosmic energy and ability to see music in the flow of the universe is what makes Indian classical music tradition so exceptional. Music is a medium that also makes us aware of our worldly duties and it also helps us transcend worldly attachments. What is so special about music is that it resonates till infinity even though you can’t touch it.

I am told that the primary objective of the Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation will be to protect, develop and promote India’s national heritage, art and culture. I am glad to know that this foundation will support the budding artists and will also try to make them financially capable. You are also considering promoting education and research in the field of music through this foundation. I believe that this initiative and the roadmap that you have formulated for a great personality like Pandit Jasraj ji is a big tribute in itself. And I would also say that now is the time for his disciples to give ‘Gurudakshina’.

Friends,

Today we are meeting at a time when technology has penetrated a lot in the world of music. I urge this cultural foundation to focus on two things. We hear about globalization quite often, but it is largely centered around the economy. It is our responsibility that Indian music should also make its global identity and create its impact globally in today’s era of globalization.

Indian music has the power to stir the depths of the human mind. Simultaneously, it also emphasizes the experience of the oneness of nature and the divine. Similarly with International Yoga Day! Yoga has emerged as a kind of spontaneous existence all over the world. It has been observed that the entire human race, the entire world has benefited from this heritage of India. Every human being in the world deserves to know, understand, learn and benefit from Indian music. It is our duty to fulfill this sacred exercise.

My second suggestion is that when the impact of technology is in every sphere of life then there should be a revolution of technology and IT in the field of music too. There should be start-ups in India that are completely dedicated to music, musical instruments and musical traditions. A lot needs to be done on how to equip the sacred streams of Indian music, such as the Ganges, with modern technology. While the ‘Guru-shishya’ tradition should remain intact, there should be attempts to become a global power and there should be value addition through technology.

Friends,

At the core of the knowledge and philosophy of India, our thoughts, ethics, culture and music is the spirit of service to humanity which fuels consciousness in all of us for centuries. The desire for the welfare of the entire world is clearly manifested in it. Therefore, the more we promote India and its traditions and identity, the more opportunities we will create to serve humanity. This is the intention and mantra of India today.

Today we are reviving our art and culture centers like Kashi. Our faith in environmental protection and love for nature is showing the world the way to a secure future. ‘Sabka Prayas’ (effort of all) should be involved in this journey which India has embarked on the mantra of heritage along with development.

I am sure the Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation will attain new heights of success with the active contribution of all of you. This foundation will become an important medium for service towards music and ‘sadhana’ and for the fulfillment of our resolutions towards the country.

With this belief, thank you very much and many best wishes for this new endeavour!

Thanks!

VARIOUS DANCE FORMS OF INDIA

Dances reflect the mood and feelings of human beings through expression and body movements. India is known for many dance forms each of which is originated from its state. However, only six classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Kathakali, Odissi, and Manipuri are nationally recognized. Apart from this, many dance forms have their origin from India. Indian dance arts are not only about body movements and gestures. It is one of the ancient ways of showing devotion to God. It shows the inseparable connectivity with the Indian culture. Here, in this article, some of the famous dance forms of India would be discussed briefly.

BHARATANATYAM

Being one of the most famous classical dances of the world, Bharatanatyam owns its origin from Tamil Nādu, one of the southern states of India. Bharatanatyam was performed for the divine Carnatic music by women in temples in the ancient period. The movements and gestures of this dance form are called mudras and the dancer uses mudras and facial expressions to show the Navarasa (9 emotions). It is one of the most honourable art and is still learned by many women in the south.

KATHAK

Kathak is an Indian dance form that has its origin from the northern state, Uttar Pradesh. The word Kathak is derived from the term ‘Katha’ which means story. This dance is performed in a way to narrate a story with the dance movements. Both male and female dancers perform together. The ankle movement is the most important one which is done by wearing the Ghungroos (Ankle bells).

KATHAKALI

Kathakali is another traditional dance form that is related to storytelling. It is originated from The Land of Spices of India, Kerala. The tales performed are Ramayana and Shiva stories. It includes heavy makeup, costumes, and face masks that are bright and colourful. The dance depicts both evil and good through facial expressions and gestures.

KUCHIPUDI

Kuchipudi, belonging to the southern state Andhra Pradesh is said to be the toughest dance form. It includes singing along with dancing. Hence it requires more skill and dedication compared to other forms. It was performed by male dancers, especially the brahmins in temples in ancient times. However, as time flew it became common and is performed even by women nowadays.

ODISSI

Odissi is the oldest dance form from the eastern state of India, Odisha. It narrates the stories of the Gods Shiva and Surya which are given in the form of poems. These poems are played as songs and the dancers express them through more than 50 intriguing mudras. These mudras are sculpted in the Hindu temples of India. It is preserved by practicing and making its survivance till today.

MANIPURI

Manipuri stands as a symbol to represent the rich traditions of the north-eastern state, Manipur. It narrates the romantic relationship between Lord Krishna and Radha, which is called Raas Leela. It is performed to the music of classical instruments by wearing the traditional Manipuri costumes and makeup to showcase the tale of the two gods.

Bhangra, Garba, Bihu, Mohiniyattam, Ghoomar, Lavani, Rouf, Karagattam, etc. are the other well-known dance forms of India.

The Impact of LINKIN PARK!

I, like many people my age, grew up listening to Linkin Park. At this point in life, it is almost impossible to not have heard at least one of their songs (or be unaware of how large a band they’ve become within the music industry). While we continue to see new technical advances and innovative artists/bands, many of us music listeners today are heavily impacted by the art of the 90’s and 2000’s. Our culture at the time was a beautiful ball of oddness that came with new shifts in music. Many of these bands and artists were able to find immense success at the dawn of the internet era, and have in many ways lead the way for new evolutions in music (inspiring many of the bands and artists we love today).

Linkin Park is one of those acts. They burst through the music industry with a sound that captured the youth across the world. Throughout their career the band has released seven studio albums. In honor of Chester Bennington’s life and art, here is a look into Linkin Park’s music and legacy, and how the band sincerely pushed themselves to create their purest work, and change music.

Hybrid Theory (2000)

The album kicked off the nu metal/rap metal sound that Linkin Park would become associated with for years to come. Electric guitar tones that borderline on industrial sounds blended with electronic beats to create instrumentals packed with emotional angst. While Mike Shinoda’s rapping provided a catchy atmosphere to the work, it was Chester Bennington’s singing/screaming that really created such a profound heavy and somber energy to the material. Thinking of the crazy adrenaline and build up in such tracks as “One Step Closer”, “Papercut”, and “A Place for My Head”, really helped to further introduce heavy music into the mainstream. “Crawling”, “Runaway”, and “My December” are key examples of how Bennington was able to capture the emotion and turmoil of life.

Meteora (2003)

Meteora continued with these instrumental sounds, balancing out the use of heavy riff roaring bangers, and stunning songs of rich somber tones. Bennington came out in full force with rage and angst throughout the record, kicking things off right away in “Don’t Stay”. The hyper record scratching and electric vibrant guitar notes presented a pulse-racing intro, packed with vicious screams from Bennington. There’s the ever-popular “Faint”, where Shinoda raps over an electronic infused rock instrumental, the chorus bursting with fiery guitar work and Bennington’s screams. Meteora is also where a lot of fans would discover “Breaking The Habit” and “Numb”. The other side of what makes these records so important, is the fact that they sincerely capture the angst and life of being a teenager. I think the word “angst” gets thrown around a lot in a negative context, but if we look at it as a pure emotion, Linkin Park really grabbed hold of what it was like to be a teenager.

Minutes to Midnight (2007)

Linkin Park took four years in between Meteora to present Minutes to Midnight. Many folks probably remember this record for the one song that made its way into the Transformers movie (“What I’ve Done”). Minutes to Midnight would be the first step that Linkin Park would take to abandoning the nu metal sound.  While tracks like “Bleed It Out” had Shinoda spitting to a catchy rock rhythm, the hip hop flow could still be felt throughout the work. The only time there was any semblance of that nu metal-like vibe was in the guitar chugs that came from “No More Sorrow”. Other than that though, Minutes to Midnight was more of a rock record, coming out with upbeat rhythms that could be found in such tracks as “Given Up”.

A Thousand Suns (2010)

A Thousand Suns kept to Shinoda’s hip hop style and the rock sound, but played around with more of an electronic essence. The hip hop energy really came forth in “When They Come for Me” and “Wretches and Kings”, with work such as “Waiting for the End” taking on a very playful pop approach. Then there was “Blackout”, which presented an industrial EDM style instrumental under Bennington’s singing and screaming.  It was during these years where some fans began to find themselves torn between the music and the changes that the group was taking on.

Living Things (2012)

The album opened with “Lost in the Echo”, kicking things off with a radiant EDM vibe. This continued in “Burn It Down” and “Lies Greed Misery”. The group even played around with some folk-like vocalization in “Castle of Glass”, distancing themselves more from their supposed trademark sound. The album still included heavy elements, the track “Victimized” coming off with punk adrenaline and flavor. These three albums showed drastically different sides to Linkin Park. The instrumental components were surely the biggest differences, but I would argue that thanks to the vocal styles and lyrical approach of Bennington and Shinoda, all three of these records still felt like Linkin Park

The Hunting Party (2014)

right away with “Keys to the Kingdom” you got Bennington’s rage-fueled screams with a steady drum beat and rock and roll tone. The track burst with Bennington’s vocals and Shinoda’s fast spitting style, presenting a super catchy song. Whether it is screams or rapping, The Hunting Party kept to a rock foundation with strong drum work and vibrant guitars.  “Guilty All the Same” and “Final Masquerade” are terrific examples of this core sound that catered to both vocal styles of Shinoda and Bennington. “War” was a standout track, capturing a sincere and brutal punk viciousness and speed. There are less of those somber and angst-ridden songs found on previous works, and instead more heart-racing adrenaline. For those who had been missing out on a heavier Linkin Park sound, this was a killer record.

One More Light (2017)

Chester’s last performance

It would be three years later when Linkin Park would release One More Light, perhaps the band’s most controversial record. There are light elements of rock felt throughout the work, but for the most part the music builds off of electronic pop. When the band released their first single “Heavy”, there began a flurry of comments ranging from all spectrums of approval to distaste. Other than “Talking to Myself”, this record doesn’t really have too much of that bubbly pop sound. There are traits of it throughout the album, but there is more of that emotional tinge that is reminiscent of the band’s earlier work. The beats dip with shadow and brightness to give off a somber aura, infusing the elements of dark and light emotions.

Many of us grew up with Bennington’s vocals and lyrics, some of us growing up suffering (and still suffering) from the same struggles that plagued his life. Linkin Park will forever be one of the most influential bands of our time. As a band, they committed to their desire in evolving their sound. This act was a lot of people’s first loves when it came to music. It became that band that got people to find a way to let go of anger or pain, and find something that gave their lives hope and inspiration. They are a band that touched the lives of millions of people trying to find themselves and make sense of life. Throughout all their albums, Linkin Park have built a legacy to always be remembered by. We have the music forever in our hearts and bursting through our eardrums, Chester’s voice still singing and screaming away.

The Impact of Music: Can It Help Your Health?

It’s difficult to discover anyone who doesn’t have a special bond to music. Even though you can’t hold a tune or play a musical instrument, you can certainly draw up a list of songs that bring back nice memories and lift your mood. Doctors have traditionally played their favourite tunes in the surgery room to reduce tension, and bringing music to patients has been related to better clinical outcome.

Music has the ability to evoke any feeling imaginable. It can lift us to unfathomable heights, soothe us in our sadness or loneliness, helps us in expressing our anger or irritation in a non-harmful way, gets our bodies going, and provides peace and serenity to our souls. Music has the ability to boost our health and well-being, which adds to its greatness.Music therapy has been more important in many aspects of recovery over the last few decades.

What precisely is music therapy?

Music therapy is a psychological approach that employs music’s inherently mood-lifting characteristics to assist people in improving their mental health and general health. It is a goal-oriented treatment which may include music creation, songwriting, singing, dancing, hearing music and analyzing music. Music therapy affects the body, mind, and soul. It  may divert the mind, slows down the rhythms of the body, and affect our mood, both of which can impact our actions.

This method of therapy may be beneficial for those suffering from anxiety and depression, as well as improving the quality of life for those suffering from physical ailments. Anybody can participate in music therapy; you wouldn’t need knowledge of music to benefit from it.

Music therapy treatments are planned with the patient’s general wellbeing, communications skills, cognitive capabilities, psychological well-being, and hobbies in mind.

Types of Music Therapy

Music therapy is an evolving process in which patients participate in the creation of music, or a passive one in which patients hear to or respond to music. Certain therapists may employ a hybrid strategy that includes both active as well as passive musical engagement.

There are many recognized techniques in music therapy, such as:

Analytical music therapy: Analytical music therapy enables you to communicate your unconscious ideas through an improvised musical “conversation” such as singing or playing an instrument, which you may then ponder upon and analyse with your therapist.

Benenzon music therapy: This method integrates some psychoanalytic principles with the process of producing music. The quest for your “musical sound identification,” which defines the exterior sound that most closely fits your interior psychological condition, is part of Benenzon music therapy.

Cognitive behavioural music therapy (CBMT): It blends cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with music. Music is utilised in CBMT to encourage certain behaviours and alter others. This method is planned rather than improvised, and it may involve having to listen to music performing, singing, or playing a musical instrument.

Community music therapy: This style focuses on utilising music to support transformation on a group level. It is carried out in a group environment and necessitates a great degree of participation from each participant.

Vocal psychotherapy: In this approach, you engage with your thoughts and desires by using numerous vocal exercises, natural sounds, and breathing techniques. This exercise is intended to help you get in touch with yourself more deeply.

The Advantages of Music Therapy

Because music therapy can be extensively customised, it is appropriate for people of all ages—even very young toddlers can gain from it. It is also adaptable and beneficial to persons with varying degrees of musical expertise as well as varied mental or physical health issues.

Music therapy can stimulate brain areas that regulate memories, feelings, mobility, sensory relay, some autonomic activities, decision-making, and rewards. It can help children and young people with developmental and/or learning impairments enhance their motor skills and improve their communication.

Overall, music therapy has been shown to promote good emotions such as relaxation, happiness, emotional closeness, optimism, and confidence.
